While I do think that diminishing returns on Champions is a good idea to encourage people to go out and kill Champs in less populated maps (thereby increasing traffic in less popular maps), I don’t think that Champ zerg trains are that big a problem.
At the same time, I also don’t believe that zerg trains have any right to yell at or abuse players who start Champions out of rotation. Champions don’t belong to you; any player who comes along has the right to start the Champ fight if they feel they can take it on (or even if they’re clueless and have no idea that picking up a rock summons Mr Troll). If somebody’s abusing you for it, block them, report them if you feel it was harassive enough, and move on. Don’t get back into an argument with them about it, because you are totally within your rights to do so.
So it’s been a new patch, and ol’ Teq has undergone a slight revamp. I’m still at work, but has anyone in my situation managed to get the “That Had to Burn” achievement yet?
It’s worth noting that the price for Green Wood Logs has also increased by a considerable amount. It never used to go above 10c, but it’s been consistently sitting at 60c or more for the past week. I wonder if this is due to people buying up Green Wood to convert to Soft Wood, or whether there’s some other reason.
Generally items that require two types of mats to craft will salvage into one or the other material. That said, certain items seem to lean towards one type of material. Hammers, axes, rifles, tridents and harpoon guns seem to primarily salvage towards wood, while pistols, maces, shields, warhorns and spears tend towards metal.
Like Celestial said, I always seem to get wood from torches. And I can echo his experience on getting wood planks on occasion too. (It’s only happened twice or three times throughout the entire past year, however.)
As far as I know, there is no difference between the Molten Pick/Bone Pick and an Orichalcum Mining Pick. The chances to get rare materials is exactly the same across all three.
Heh, I’ll just stick to salvaging blues and greens then. XD I’ve just been salvaging those, and I’m up to 65%. That’s already way more than what I had prior to the MF change.
Actually, now that the new Essence mechanic has been out for a bit, does salvaging Ectos give a consistent better return on luck than salvaging blues/greens?
Fortunately I’m not generally a fan of the Ascended skins, so if/when I do end up getting Ascended weapons, I’ll just transmute my dungeon/Exotic skins over them. XD
I can’t say for certain, but I’m pretty sure that you can’t salvage inscriptions from any crafted item. Most likely those uncraftable inscriptions can only be salvaged from items that were dropped directly as loot from monsters.
The type and quality of the mats that Wanze got from his bags tells me that it’s most likely to be:
a) Light Bags of Booty (from level 20+ pirates)
b) Light Miner’s Bags (from level 20+ dredge)
From personal experience, I can confirm that Silver Doubloons do drop from these bags.
He may also have possibly been buying Bags of Pinched Goods/Bags of Purloined Goods, which drop from Bandits, or Light Bags of Skritt Shinies (from Skritt, obviously) although I cannot confirm that Silver Doubloons drop from those.
As someone who’s not interested in the Juggernaut, I’m providing this information free of charge. You’re welcome.
Scarlet becomes the Mad Queen? She IS crazy already, after all.
Her first act as Mad Queen is to make the Clocktower even harder, with random rockets firing at you that knock you off the tower as you try to climb it. When you finally get to the top, Scarlet appears and attacks you, forcing you to time your approach so you reach the top just as the clockface gets shattered.
The key to turret defense just seems to be:
a) engage the mobs before they get too close to the turrets (especially important if Risen Plague Bearers spawn)
b) kill any Fingers that spawn near the turrets (because their poison fields will either force turret operators to dismount or use skill #3 to cleanse the poison field on them)
c) not be too numerous, because that spawns Champions. About 10 or so defenders a side is sufficient for turret defense.
d) have one player designated as the turret repairman, who just picks up a hammer and clicks repeatedly on the 3 turrets to see if any of them have lost health. If they have, go and repair it.
I would’ve prefered if the hard mode was actually hard mode, things like Clocktower jumping puzzle, or even the parts where you have to jump and avoid the jumping rocks really quickly and even dodge roll into them.
I’m against this suggestion simply for the reason that those sections with the jumping rocks/rapids/exploding lily pads are an absolute PAIN to anyone who doesn’t have near-perfect latency. It’s not fun bashing your head against a puzzle that you know you’re only having trouble beating because the game thinks you’re about half a second behind where your screen shows you to be.
Hey, I didn’t figure out the Shatter Serenade could be used to drop the ice stalactites until my 3rd run through (I did World 2 on all 5 of my characters)! :P It was a series of lucky discoveries for me. When I first learned the song, dulfy’s guide pointed out that it could be used to permanently shatter ice walls. I didn’t discover that it could also permanently destroy the small ice stalactites until I happened to use it in a room that had both an ice wall and stalactites.
And then I didn’t realise it could ALSO be used on the large stalactites until I was using it in the final area to permanently clear the small stalactites around the last banana. When I realised that “Huh, I could actually use the Shatter Song to bypass the entire last puzzle!”, that was a real Eureka moment. XD
From what I’ve heard, it’s not actually damage that ruins harvesting. It’s when your profession has traits or mechanics that auto-fire skills when something happens (like getting Regeneration when your health drops below 50%, or a Guardian’s periodic Aegis renewal) while you’re in combat.
The new Slickpack looks like it’s perfect for an Engineer. Shame I don’t have one. XD
It does, doesn’t (it?
I am in conflict because I have the Zephyr back pack on my Engineer and I love it so.
I stuck the Zephyr back piece on my mule character who (rather appropriately) is named “Packbearer Patrick”.
The Lionguard weapon vendors in Lion’s Arch and the Ebon Vanguard weapon vendors in Ebonhawke also bear visiting, although they only offer up to level 80 Rares. (The weapon skins are unique though, so check them out anyway.)
^ Not entirely true. Exotic Orichalcum inscriptions that cannot be obtained by crafting (such as Soldier’s, Dire or Magi) CAN be salvaged from Exotics (and only Exotics). This was done so that Ascended weapons could be crafted with any stat spread. Exotic inscriptions that are obtainable by crafting cannot be salvaged in this way.
There’s another thread similar to this on this very page.
But as to your answer, nobody knows for sure, but it’s highly likely.
It’s probably edible. But as to whether it’s nutritious, I have no idea. I’m sure that certain Sylvari “juices” would be quite pleasant to taste though. -cough-
Definitely support the idea of being able to Forge several Stones together into a Crystal.
In all honesty though, it probably won’t happen. I imagine ANet sells a LOT of Crystals to level 80’s looking to get their appearance just right.
My characters are still adventuring through the lower level zones, so here is what I can provide from my own experiences:
Item Salvages (i.e. weapons and armor):
Level 1 – 20: Copper Ore, Green Wood Logs, Rawhide Leather Scraps, Jute Scraps.
Level 21 – 31: Iron Ore, Soft Wood Logs, Thin Leather Scraps, Wool Scraps.
Level 32 – ??: Iron Ore, Seasoned Wood Logs, Coarse Leather Scraps, Cotton Scraps.
Note that on the lower edges of each band, there is still a chance you might get mats from the lower tier when salvaging them.
Salvage items (e.g. Tattered Hide, Bit of Metal Scrap) are much easier to keep track of as the mats they drop is linked directly to their price.
Salvage items that are worth 6 copper give Copper Ore, Green Wood Logs, Rawhide Leather Scraps and Jute Scraps.
Items worth 10 copper give Iron/Copper Ore, Green/Soft Wood Logs, Rawhide/Thin Leather Scraps and Wool/Jute Scraps.
Items worth 14 copper give Iron/Gold Ore, Seasoned/Soft Wood Logs, Coarse/Thin Leather Scraps and Cotton/Wool Scraps.
Not sure what higher items give as I’m not up to those maps yet.
Making the unlimited tools account bound instead of soulbound would be a nice move, I agree, given that there will be some players who think the Bone Pick is much more suitable for their character aesthetically, but who already have a Molten pick.
Luckily my Sylvari Necro is more about plants and less about dead things. XD I’ll be keeping my Molten pick for now.
The new Slickpack looks like it’s perfect for an Engineer. Shame I don’t have one. XD
Faolain shacks up with Scarlet to make Caithe jealous. TEH DRAMAZ!
I always support more permanent content being added to the game.
I just hope that it doesn’t make existing content suddenly unable to be completed like the “That Had to Burn” achievement.
I definitely would support a token system for Tequatl (and other high-end loot) in the game.
Party dissolved in SAB, you get kicked, why?!
in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

As for multi or not, SAB can be done with a party or solo, those preferring parties can organize and do it. Forcing people who prefer it solo to run it in groups isn’t the answer, SAB is fine the way it is in that respect imo. And I have nothing against group content and run dungeons every day.. it’s just that SAB is a different thing alltogether, and I like it that way.
I certainly wouldn’t want SAB to become “unsoloable” either. What I meant was there should be a slight incentive to play SAB in groups, since what’s happened in World 2 is that everybody just does it solo for the achievements and Trib Mode. (Which is fair enough. Not all players want to sit around waiting for other players to hunt for every last bauble or find every secret room.)
One possible solution might be to make it so boss health doesn’t scale according to the number of people in the party, making it much easier to kill King Toad or the Storm Wizard in a group rather than solo. Likewise, it isn’t necessary to have one key per party member, or to have everybody hit the gong. One person is perfectly capable of pulling everybody else through the map if they’re good enough, and the other players can either attempt to complete it on their own merits, or just follow the good player’s lead.
(Of course, this is not applicable in Trib Mode. No riding of coat tails there. :P)
While I’d personally love to see Teq’s bonus chest drop a guaranteed Exotic (with slightly increased chances for Precursors and his special Ascended weapon skins), thinking long-term I don’t think it’d be a good idea because it would flood the market with Exotics. (If it takes an average of 100 people to beat Tequatl, that’s 100 people who’ve suddenly got an Exotic. Multiply that by 4 or 5 servers, for at least 3 or 4 times per day, and that’s nearly 2000 Exotics entering the market every single day.)
The world boss bonus chests only drop 1/day per account.
It needn’t be the same 100 people beating Tequatl each time on each server though. (Although I’ll grant that it’s likely that certain Commanders are likely sticking around for each Teq fight, from my own experience.)
“I am Charr.
In this world of constant conflict, I am the deadliest weapon of all."
Yep. He’s gonna be a Warrior. XD
Scarlet: “I shall be good and sweet and nice from now on!”
…
…
…
Scarlet: “Just kidding!” -murders Braham, Rox et al and absconds with all the loot-

Just thought I’d post this here to see if anyone else has noticed it. While using a Chop-it-All logging axe on my female Norn, the animation when she pulls the axe back for a swing is extremely jerky, like she was a wind-up doll that’s stuttering. None of my other characters (Asura, Charr, Human or Sylvari) have this issue. It’s a minor thing, but it really bothers me. Has anyone else noticed this issue? Does it appear on male Norns as well?
I would gather my adventuring party and hunt down the obvious doppelganger clone (created by Scarlet?) who’s replaced Queen Jennah and is trying to goad the humans and Charr into war with each other.
Using the high res texture pack doesn’t help because the problem with Charr isn’t the actual resolution, just the way it’s bloated around their bigger frame.
? This is the first time I’ve heard of this. What is this high-res texture pack and where can I find it?
^ That there is a much more effective solution than just trying to join a big server (which are SO crowded that even natives of those servers usually can’t get in without friends or guildies to pull them in via a party).
A particularly offensive stereotype of bookahs?
Magic Find doesn’t affect loot from chests or bags. Just a reminder.
You don’t wanna get bank storage advice from a packrat like me; all 12 Bank slots purchases, all 5 characters with all Bag slots unlocked. PLUS an additional mule character just to hold story items like the Zephyr Model that I know I’ll never use again.
Uhh, is that for the Monthly? It was briefly available at the start of the month, but then got replaced with new achievements due to a technical glitch. If you’re seeing that in your “achievements almost complete” tracker, you probably can’t progress it right now because it’s not actually part of the current Monthly (Veteran Slayer is the Monthly requirement now, I believe). It should go away when October rolls around.
Saw it last week. Already bought 25.
(I buy 25 whenever they go on sale.)
I’m still holding out hope that we may find pockets of Tyrannus and Ceratodon deeper in the Maguuma, though.
Ehh, I dunno. I’m not sure I want to get pwned by Mobrin’s 4000 damage (~80k damage in today’s terms) Power Attack again. XD
Ahh, thanks for that, Konig. I still haven’t explored Dredgehaunt Cliffs in great detail yet (it’s next on my list of map rotations).
Still hoping to get a response from ANet about this.
Does anyone have any more information to add?
Hidden achievements can sometimes be awarded, but you don’t get the notification for it. For example, back when Speedy Reader was still a hidden achievement, I went through and read all the books, but didn’t get the achievement. I figured it was either bugged or removed, and went on with my GW2 life. When the achievement was finally brought back, I went back to Ebonhawke, only to discover that the achievement was already complete. So it DID award it when I did it last time, it just didn’t say anything.
The recommendation to have a Finger killing squad or two is new, and I think it’s actually a good idea. It’s something that Zerker characters can do easily (since their mobile nature means they’ll usually be out of range of the shockwaves), and culling the Fingers should help a lot in alleviating pressure on the turrets to constantly spam #3 to remove poison fields on the main zerg.
Some people have been adding new World 2 dig locations in the comments of the Dulfy link above. It’s what I used to help pad out my baubles during runs.
We are playing on Infantile but she likes to take the hard paths anyway.
This part cracked me up. XD I admire her determination to do it “normally” though!
Congrats on beating the Storm Wizard too! He’s fairly simple once you are familiar with his pattern (although it’s easier to mess up at him than King Toad). The Yeti continues to annoy the heck out of me though. >.<
