The old Kryta was more centered around Lion’s Arch, and Bloodtide Coast is still fairly “tropical”. Gendarran Fields technically should still be within the tropical range, but maybe a lot of the flora there got cleared for farming (and by the centaurs). The swampy region in the SW of Gendarran Fields still does give off a tropical vibe.
Then again, we do have an arctic region supposedly sitting right next to a tropical region, so don’t read too much into it.
There’s always EotM if you’re looking to bag farm.
As far as Gold League is concerned, it’s almost certain that BG, JQ and TC will end up facing each other again at some point. BG and JQ have each other twice in a row now. I’m guessing next week it’ll be BG or JQ/TC/SoS or FA and TC/SoS/Mag for the final two weeks.
According to dulfy, no. The Molten Sickle and Axe do not give out any special materials from harvesting.
Yeah, I didn’t buy them either.
That’s a pretty neat idea there, Ohoni. The “Aspect” slot, that is. Maybe these Aspects could be crafted and slotted into the infinite tool so it gives you bonus chances for special materials when you harvest?
It would be a way of not only introducing more stuff for crafters to create (and thereby providing a sink for some underused mats), but also as a means of creating more supply for rare mats like Toxic Spores, Azurite, and maybe even stuff like Lodestones.
For example, maybe you can create a “Corrupted Essence Aspect” that fits into an infinite tool. This gives that tool a rare chance (5% chance, maybe lower) to drop a Corrupted rare crafting mat that varies depending on the tier of the node (e.g. when slotted into a mining pick, it has a rare chance to give Corrupted Slivers from Copper nodes, Corrupted Lodestones from Orichalcum nodes etc.)
I did my part by going to EotM for my WvW dailies this week and not making the battle more lopsided.
(Unless I need Camp or Dolyak kills.)
If they’re obviously doing mapping stuff (e.g. they’re in the Skritt/Centaur camps, are climbing to a vista, at a skill point) or even just running past (I have a deep seated dislike for tail gankers), I leave them alone unless they attack me first.
If they’re actively participating in WvW objectives (e.g. attacking a camp, killing a dolyak) then I regard them as fair game.
If I come across two single players duking it out, I will also join in to help my server mate unless it’s pretty obvious that they’re dueling (they’re in a well known dueling spot, or there’s other people standing around and watching).
I do agree that this tournament’s achievement is nothing much to brag about.
BUT… It’s pretty obvious that ANet’s intention this time around is to make it accessible as much as they can to the general population so that more people get encouraged to try WvW. Maybe the majority of them will just get their 5 events and head back to PvE/PvP, but if just 10% of them like what they see and stick around, that’s new blood being injected into the game mode.
Strange. I’ve been doing EotM more than usual this week due to TC (blue) curbstomping poor FA/Mag (so they certainly don’t need me there). Curiously, every time I’ve been into EotM this week, it’s been Frostreach that’s been overrunning the map. I don’t know whether or not it’s because BG is having a harder time against JQ and SoS this week, so they need more bodies in the official maps, but OG seems to be in equal or less numbers to FR this week.
Um, are you talking about the dungeon paths themselves or the reward track? Because you get 3 weapons, 1 armor, and 240 tokens for the reward track. That’s pretty generous in my books. If you do solo/team PvP, the reward tracks are actually the fastest way of obtaining the dungeon collections.
The dungeon paths are slower in terms of token acquisition (which I admit feels a bit odd. “If you want dungeon gear, it’s faster to do PvP than the actual dungeon!”), but they make up for it with their gold rewards.
@Ian: No, it is not. While you can indeed interact with the totem, it won’t actually trigger the instance unless you have actually completed the prior event in the area. (Which does kind of make sense, because story-wise, how would you impress Knut/Eir if all you did was walk up a totem in an empty Svanir stronghold and just punch it?)
However, I think that this experimental section of the LS shows that it’s better for ANet to keep the LS content within instances. It was a nice idea to try and weave existing open world content into the LS, but it’s causing more problems than it solves.
Someone made the excellent suggestion of adjusting the rewards so they are awarded when the event succeeds. So, sure, go ahead and tag all those Champs that spawn. But you won’t get any of their sweet, sweet bags unless you actually succeed at the event.
Agreed. The Flame Legion turrets and supply carts should remain even after the FL are kicked out, so that players can just run around and destroy those for credit.
I had a similar idea to this, but instead of making it so both teams get the same reward, I would tie it to the “Random Team” option.
If you pick “Random Team” when you join a match, you get DOUBLE the rewards at the end of the match (capped at the winner’s normal reward). This means that if you picked a random team, and your team ended up losing, you’d still get the same rewards as if you’d lucked out onto the winning team anyway. There would thus be no incentive to hop teams, or wait until it becomes clear which team is superior.
Coupled with the fact that rewards are given out based on time played, this means it’s most profitable to instantly hit “Random Team” the moment a match starts, and then see it out to the end, win or lose.
Disabling team swapping might help a bit, I think, but I think it wouldn’t solve the problem entirely, because that would mean players would just ragequit entirely when they see they’re losing, leaving the losing team still 4v5 or 3v5. (And then someone on the winning team gets autobalanced over anyway.)
If you do PvP, you can get a Fossil (and presumably enough Geodes to buy a recipe) every time you do the Maguuma Wastes reward track. I’ve yet to do the reward track as I’ve been focusing on the dungeon tracks to complete my Collections, so I don’t know if the track also gives enough Ambrite to craft a weapon.
I bought the Basic Harvesting Pack. Yes, I am perfectly aware that it’s “not a good deal”. But I’m the kind of player who likes filling out his “home” as much as possible, and having a vegetable garden does appeal to me.
Besides, the herb node also drops anything from Vanilla to Chili to Rosemary, so you can get pleasantly surprised now and again.
The Molten Sickle is about the same speed as the Consortium Sickle (that is, it’s about 1/4 of a second faster than the other sickles). It also has a really nice animation IMO, but without a unique bonus like the Watchwork Pick, I’m not going to buy it. (The Watchwork Pick really has upped the game as far as gem store tools go.)
Molten Logging Axe is pretty meh, but all the same, I’m glad that someone who wants to go with “all fire tools” now has the option of doing so.
Do you know what will replace them? I doubt anet will leave us nothing to buy for single tickets. Maybe bring a old set back for 1 ticket?
That could definitely happen. There was one sale last year when all the Black Lion weapons prices got reduced by 2 tickets. I wouldn’t rule out stuff like the Winter’s weapons coming back as seasonal specials for Wintersday too.
No free items this week.
Get the torches and pitchforks, boys!
I very much would like to see the various gathering tools standardized, so to that end, I would support the OP’s suggestion. (Indeed, I made a very similar suggestion in the past.) However, this then basically means that the gem store tools are all undeniably better than anything a normal player could get in the game, which might generate accusations of p2w. (The Watchwork Pick is already breaking this trend, of course.)
The red Hyleks changed to blue don’t actually stop being hostile, but they DO come under attack by the unchanged red Hyleks under the presumption that they are invading Hyleks from another tribe. As far as I know, there is no way for a Hylek to naturally change the colour of its skin; Amoxtli’s skin change was probably a bug or oversight.
While I did originally think that the Avatar of the Pale Tree was indeed just a magical/spiritual manifestation, I don’t particularly see an issue with the idea that it might just as well be an actual Sylvari body grown by the Pale Tree and possessed with her consciousness. While it is not the TRUE Pale Tree’s body, it might still come to be viewed as the Pale Tree herself, similar to how in Mass Effect 3, people started thinking of EDI as the mobile humanoid body she was controlling, even though her true “body” was basically just a quantum computer box sitting in the holds of the ship.
Did they ever fix that bug that caused players to take exponentially large amounts of damage from golems?
RNG is RNG. But if it helps, if you play WvW on any kind of regular basis, you can expect to get your spoon sometime. It’s not that rare of a drop.
If the problem lies with people not wanting to join the losing team because inferior rewards, resulting in situations where everybody’s waiting in Spectate to join the winning team, or forcing autobalance before joining the winning team, then here’s my solution:
If you pick “Random Team” when you join a match, you get DOUBLE the rewards at the end of the match (up to the winner’s normal reward).
Thoughts?
I support the OP’s suggestion. If I like the Radiant armor skins, but not the Hellfire skins (or vice versa), why should I be forced to get an armor set I hate just to get the one I like? It would be a bit like gating higher level dungeon gear behind low level ones. Want CM armor? Too bad, you can’t get it until you get AC armor first.
“Everyone is OP except me.”
From a design perspective, yes, Legendaries should require doing a bunch of various in-game activities, although this doesn’t necessarily mean that PvE/PvP should be included in that. I like the current system of Legendaries requiring a whole bunch of different components acquired from various parts of the game, but there should also be freedom for players to acquire those components by a variety of ways. (As an example, Badges of Honor for the Gift of Battle can be acquired through WvW or just through AP chests.)
And of course, if you have the cash, you can just buy it up front. I’ve never believed in cosmetics being a prestige item, so if a player wants to give ANet a whole bunch of money to look pretty, why not?

Some people do.
(Not me, but I know some people who probably would do that!)
I wouldn’t mind seeing Projected Profit come back. It doesn’t matter that much to me, but it’s kind of nice knowing that I’ll get back “8 gold” or “6 silver” as my final profit.
Nope. I’ve harvested Vanilla (T1 herbs), Sage Leaves (T2) and Rosemary (T3) all from the same node in DR using a Thresher sickle. It’s completely random, and the loot table seems to be region-independent.
Hmm, that’s not a bad idea, ArchonWing. Supported.
I’m not sure why people go back into Spectate when they get autobalanced over, but I suspect it’s because they don’t realise that if you get autobalanced, you get the winner’s bonus anyway, even if you didn’t volunteer. I didn’t know that for quite a while after I started PvPing either.
In fact, in my matches, whenever I see the Volunteer option pop up, I always grab it. It means I can just yolo the remainder of the match and as long as the match went to 8.5 mins remaining, I’ll get the maximum reward anyway.
Pat, would it be possible to have the profession filter disabled by default? It’s rather annoying to have to remove it all the time when I’m buying gear for characters other than the one I’m currently on (e.g. I’m on a Guardian, but I’m searching for cloth armor.)
The centaurs decapitate their victims and use their skulls as decorations. >.> Taking their hooves seems tamer by comparison. (Although I guess to a centaur, removing their feet would be a grave insult to them.)
The lack of a trinity is good, but it would be nice for different types of builds and weapons to be equally effective for high-end content. The good part is, this situation is totally fixable (see the recent Longbow changes that actually made it a viable weapon for Ranger now) with careful buffs and balances.
But in the meantime, just start your own group, OP. I do various dungeons and Fractals with PUGs and I never ask for specific builds. We get through the content just fine.
I still run 6/2/0/0/6. Gs/rifle…
Bolas, bulls, signet of might….
Hilarious watching engi or guard block and then get kill shot for over 10k…
Least in pvp hotjoins….
Would you mind sharing this build? The various bow builds aren’t really doing it for me, so I’m still looking to find a fun niche build I can use on Warrior. (I only ever play Hotjoin, so it doesn’t need to be a super meta build.
)
The only real long-term solution I could see to this is by introducing Green Vs Blue Vs Red for the main WvW maps as well. But that could lead to a different problem of a loss of “server identity and pride”.
I’m from TC, and after getting stomped by BG last week I’ll admit that part of me is kind of glad that we have an “easy” week. Still, I can understand the frustration of the under-strength servers.
I wonder… Would the servers actually welcome an unofficial strategy of the two weaker servers automatically teaming up to fight the bigger one? JQ and TC did this last season against BG, to great effect. Looking at the scores this season, I think that many of the servers are actually at a place where the two weaker servers, when combined, would have the numbers and coverage to effectively compete against the bigger one.
I agree that it likely all comes down to numbers. ANet has tried (with some success) to increase the base numbers of people playing PvP by introducing the reward tracks. (It certainly did get me started on PvP!) This group of players will basically play Hotjoin, and that’s likely where they’ll stay forever because it’s accessible and relatively stress-free.
From this base pool, you’ll then get a smaller crowd of people who like the competition and will want to get better. These are the guys who will probably do Solo Queue and maybe some Team Queue.
From this smaller pool, you’ll get the cream of the crop. They take part in official tournaments, and basically just stomp anybody below them.
Trouble is, the player base of PvP is small enough that all the experienced people in tiers 1 and 2 are basically known to each other. Even in Hotjoin, I find myself often running into the same players time and again. (Enough that I can sometimes tell on joining a match which team is going to win because I recognise the names of the more skilled players.)
At the end of the day, it really does come down to numbers. We need a big enough pool of casual PvP’ers from whom we can draw on to build up the higher tiers.
How about if those skins from the Region Reward Tracks actually get upgraded to be actual Exotics rather than just skins?
Personal taste, I guess. I personally like the pulsing glow. It’s like a calming rhythm.
At Jetsam Isle – the one with the quaggan pirate meta – there is a named sylvari there. If you talk to her with a sylvari, you can compare her to the Nightmare Court. She is greatly offended by this, despite how she says she enjoys the plundering and the killing and the thrill of pirate life.
There are more sides to the sylvari life than mere “Ventari follower, Soundless, and Nightmare Court”. There are those who do not follow either Ventari’s teachings or the Court’s actions – in the Grove’s lowest level, near the House of Malomedies, there is a sylvari who’s having troubles with this conundrum: she doesn’t fully agree with Ventari’s teachings, but she can never accept the Court’s way of life.
Being a sylvari isn’t just a case of “either you follow Ventari’s teachings, or you’re of the Nightmare Court.” There are those who aren’t good but don’t seek to spread Nightmare or become twisted by it.
Errr, there isn’t a Sylvari crewmaster among that group, Konig. You’re misremembering. That particular NPC you’re talking about is Human. And a male. I remember quite clearly because I got that “like the Nightmare Court?” line on my Sylvari talking to him too.
And yes, he does say he’s not like “those sadists”. He’s just a man who’s perfectly happy to break knees and kill people if his job calls for it. He enjoys the feelings of power and fear that he inspires, but he doesn’t commit evil for its own sake.
I have never heard of that agreement before. I’d probably think twice before attacking a transformed player like that, but for all I know they’re using it just to spy or to hide more easily in places like SMC.
I’m still slowly collecting various Exotic skin collections (just finished collecting all the Legionnaire weapons last night!), so I salvage these for chances at Dark Matter in addition to unlocking the skins.
I’m up to 297 Dark Matter now. 107 more to go…
I have no need for it, but that’s because I have a mule parked in DR whose sole purpose is to harvest my HI nodes every day.
To those players though, I would sympathise with their feelings, but it wouldn’t be the first time economic changes have made previously expensive stuff cheap, or previously cheap stuff expensive. The economy is always going to be in flux; you win some, you lose some.
Yes it wouldn’t be the first time economic changes have made previously cheap stuff expensive, we can all deal with the current price of bolt. You win some, you lose some.
That’s why I mentioned that in my original post.
As I’ve said before, the economy is clearly able to handle the current Silk prices, so I doubt that things will change.
BUT… If there’s enough player disgruntlement over it, I wouldn’t rule out ANet making some holistic changes across the game to increase cloth supply. (It could be something as dramatic as increasing the amount of cloth scraps from salvage by 50 – 100%, or the ability to downgrade cloth from higher tiers to lower.)
The movement rate of Runes of Holding is really, REALLY slow though. I tried placing buy orders for some too, but after a week with no purchases (and having to refresh my bids all the time), I just gave up and bought the runes directly. The amount of silver I saved wasn’t worth the wasted time. XD
Very impressive that you managed to do Map Completion without dying once. (Especially in WvW! That must have been nerve wracking.)
^ That. Just sell them once you’ve got your Enchanted Key. It’s 2 silver!
