Yeah, enemy AI REALLY seems to hate minions (especially the Bone Fiend) and tend to target them above you in almost all situations.
Mind you, there are certain enemies that seem programmed to go for YOU above all costs (like a lot of Risen), so you’ll need to watch out for those.
Imagine that you’re an actor in a movie. Your character is the role you are playing. Another player "walks up to you, looks you up and down, and says, “You’re a long way from <insert capital city>, stranger. What brings you to Lion’s Arch?”
What does he/she say? What does he/she do? The answers will form the foundation of your roleplaying.
I don’t think it would stop complaints, I think it would change the content of the complaints. Mostly to “why did you make quaggans playable, I wanted kodan/tengu”.
^ This.
One thing we need to realise is that it’s not the same people complaining whenever new stuff comes out or things change. It’s different people complaining about different things, and no matter what ANet does, it will please some people while angering others. Even the Wardrobe feature had its detractors, for example.
But that said, I REALLY want playable Tengu. I want my Tengu Thief.
IMO, if we really want to halt the mentality of some players that we NEED to farm in this game, then we need to drastically alter the way loot is given. The bottlenecks tend to be things like Fine mats, Lodestones and things that are hard to farm directly; so what we need to do is boost supply of these things dramatically.
1. Veterans ALWAYS drop a loot bag appropriate to their type, in addition to their standard loot.
2. Elites ALWAYS drop a non-Exotic champ bag appropriate to their type, in addition to their standard loot.
3. Champions ALWAYS drop either 1-3 Fine crafting mats OR 1 Rare crafting mat appropriate to their level, in addition to their Champ bag.
4. Harvesting plant nodes now has a chance to give 1 – 3 cloth scraps according to the tier of the node.
There. We should now be drowning in supply of the previously rare mats, so everybody should be able to get whatever rare skin it was they wanted. The downside is you’ll see a lot more players using previously rare skins, so you’ll need to decide if that’s a price you’re willing to pay. (It’s a non-issue to me. Frankly, I don’t give a skritt what another player is wearing or using.)
Just bought 300keys cause of sale and havent got one ;c
Well, that explains why the exchange rate spiked. XD
I can understand your frustration, but sometimes, that’s just the way the world changes. As an example, I loved the Mass Effect series when it first came out, but subsequent games made the series more and more like a FPS. The designers were obviously trying to appeal to the shooter crowd, and by ME3, the game felt so different from its roots that were it not for the emotional investment I had in the story and characters, I’d probably have abandoned it a long time ago.
But, that was the decision the devs went with, for business reasons. Things evolve and change all the time. Sometimes it will be to our liking, sometimes it won’t. We can voice our objections, and hope the devs take notice, but at the end of the day, we also have to accept that sometimes things move on without us. We are not the center of the world, and we either learn to adapt and live with the new system, or we leave and find something else more to our liking.
I hope you find a game more suited to your tastes.
40 million karma. O.o Jeeeeez… I can’t even begin to think how one could spend all that.
I’ve seen this happen in Obsidian Sanctum a few times, but not in the main WvW maps.
My only complaint about Skyhammer is that the cannon blast should be dodgable. (Or alternatively, its blast radius should be reduced.) It is far too overpowered as it is.
Everything else about the map is a refreshing change. It teaches you to be more aware of positioning and puts greater emphasis on blocks, stability and reading enemy tells to avoid lethal pulls/pushes.
Not to mention that if you remove Hotjoin, you’ll get all the newbies with their terrible PvE builds and no idea what Conquest is about, or worse, the “Don’t care. Just here for Dailies. I will triple cap a single point and then run into a wall for the remainder of the match.” players filling up solo Queue.
If you think matches are bad now, they’d be 10 times worse if Hotjoin (or its rewards) was removed.
Agreed that they should remain Fractal exclusive. BUT there should be a way to get the skin you want without being at the mercy of RNG. I agree with the idea of being able to trade a large amount of Pristine Relics (there’s really no other use for them, especially once you have the rings you want) for them.
Canonically, I’d say that the true “heroes” of GW1 were Ascalon’s Chosen (Devona, Aidan, Mhenlo, Cynn and Eve), helped by the other Heroes and henchmen. They were present throughout all three campaigns and Eye of the North, as well as playing pivotal roles during the War in Kryta and the rise of the Ministry of Purity. It’s just kept unobtrusive so that players can feel free to roleplay their own character’s achievements.
If they have ‘powered armor’ that isn’t a golem suit.
Something I’ll note I’ve never heard of them being stated to have. :P
Possible? Maybe… but I don’t think they’ve ever talked about such :P
edit: By that I mean like heavy armor which boosts their abilities by a LOT, but isn’t actually a golem like suit akin to the firestorm suit, scruffy, etc. (You see an Asura in a firestorm suit in aetherpath).
Yeah, I was referring to their Cultural armor. The Electromagnetic armor looks like it could be armor that’s strengthened with magic, like a powered armor suit. And of course, lore-wise an Asura in a Power Suit (elite skill) could theoretically match a Norn in raw strength, depending on the quality of the suit.
It might be nice to see the Shatterer get a few tweaks so his fight is more engaging than just “stand in the zerg and auto-attack”. My suggestions:
a) Player attacks do minimal damage to the Shatterer (but see below). Attacking him directly should be a last resort.
b) Mortars and do their normal damage to the Shatterer. In addition, they can now be loaded with ammo that grants a special buff to players in the area of impact. This buff allows players to deal double damage to the Shatterer (but it still translates to only about 25% of their normal damage).
c) Turrets deal greatly increased damage against the Shatterer, making them the primary source of damage against the Dragon Champion. This makes defending them and the mortars a top priority.
d) The Shatterer’s ground stomp damages and knocks down players and mortars. Turrets are unaffected.
e) The Shatterer’s breath targets primarily turrets and deals a lot of damage to them.
f) Vigil Engineers will repair both turrets and mortars, but are frequently targeted by Branded spawns.
Basically, when I think of the Dragons as World Bosses, I want their fights to have complex, engaging mechanics that require skill and knowledge to beat, but isn’t necessarily dependent on having 60+ players show up. Teq, for example, has multiple mechanics that require different groups of players to have different roles, but his base health is scaled up so far that you need a critical mass of players to be successful. I’d like his fight mechanics to be the same, but he just scales better so that as few as 20 people can defeat him.
^ Yep. Make at least 5 Legendaries for the achievement, and create a double copy of one for “Twice Told Legend”.
Huh, really? I’ll have to take your word for it. I’m still only up to SE in terms of dungeons. (Finishing off the last path on my characters in the coming weeks, then it’s finally on to CoF!)
Well, personally I am hoping that unid dye prices go up. I still have my stockpile of 500+ I’m waiting on to sell.
That depends. Do people actually buy the BLSK’s? Enough for ANet to actually profit from them? Only ANet would know for sure, but I suspect that most players only use them when they get them from dailies or map completion. (I myself have 5 spare BLSK’s in my bank. I only ever use them on Exotics, so I actually tend to get BLSK’s faster than I can use them.)
Yeah, prices for Foxfire have been on a slow but steady decline over the last two weeks. I fully expect this trend to continue since demand for Foxfire will peter out as more and more players get their Mawdrey backpieces (and only one is needed per entire account), but the supply of Foxfire will only grow as players never stop harvesting Elder Wood.
At the same time, I expect more players to craft level 80 Rare staves (and maybe bows) to throw into the Forge for gambling while prices are low.
Prices hit 100 gems for 13g last night when the Black Lion Keys went on sale. I kind of regret selling my gems too early now. XD
Ah well. I’ll just sit and wait for my next price ceiling (100 gems for 15g).
As someone who does a TON of harvesting, I can refute the myth that the Watchwork Pick (or any other unlimited pick) does not give gems from nodes. Nor does it reduce or remove the chance for extra strikes (a special bonus given from WvW favor).
The Watchwork Pick is unquestionably FAR better than any other unlimited pick on the market. I honestly cannot imagine why anyone would not buy it unless they were DEAD set on the aesthetics of the other picks. (Which is another reason why I think balancing needs to be done. Why should a player who loves the Molten Pick feel like they’re missing out just because they like the look more? It would be like Arah armor getting an innate -10% condition duration bonus, but ONLY if you use the skin. Don’t like the Arah look? Tough luck.)
But if players don’t wish to buy it, that works for me too. High sprocket prices means more money for me.
I still think it would be better to go the other way and improve the SFSoM’s functionality. Make it a permanent BLSK, raise the price to 1000 gems, and increase the per use cost to 3 silver. (3 copper → 3 silver. Continuity!)
And then, one day, they can introduce a Gold Fed Salvage-o-Matic that costs 3 gold per use and functions basically as an unlimited Upgrade Extractor.
But my point, as stated in my original post, is that it looks very very plain. I don’t think it will be apparent as ‘special’ armour to players except those who know exactly what the ascended armour looks like. At least the ascended weapons have an “oooh!” factor even if you don’t know what the ascended weapons look like. Ascended armour is just.. plain boring.
Eh, all in the eye of the beholder, I’d say. Personally I think the Ascended weapon skins all look hideous. The white versions don’t look too bad as far as colour goes, but I hate the general design of them.
I like the general idea, but I’m a bit weary of having so many different tokens in the game already. >.>
My personal experience is that, yes, there IS a noticeable difference. I will typically get at least 1 or 2 Rares a day now just by killing random mobs. Exotics are still few and far between, but the daily Rare(s) is something that I wasn’t getting back when I only had < 50% MF. (I’m now up to 170+).
Story Mode is actually much easier than Explorable. The trouble is, it’s usually done by newer players who have never tried dungeons before and therefore aren’t expecting the massive jump in difficulty. (This is one flaw that I feel should be addressed. ANet needs to ease the transition of players more into dungeons. Currently it feels a lot like the Factions GW1 campaign; it went from “Master Togo will hold your hand through everything!” to “Let’s watch you get pwned by level 20 mobs” on the mainland.)
The other problem is that newer players usually aren’t as stringent about keeping their gear up to date. You can generally get away with this in the open world, but that poses a problem when they enter dungeons. Downscaling + Elite mobs means that foes can typically one or two shot them, but there’s no prior warning or instruction that players need to do this. Players then complain that dungeons are OP and then either cry for them to be nerfed, or just stop trying dungeons altogether, neither of which are good for the game’s long-term health.
Yeah, hopefully one day we can evolve Mawdrey II to let her eat Empyreal and Dragonite as well.
I’m still very short of Dragonite, but thanks to EotM, I’m accumulating Empyreal almost as fast as Bloodstone Dust, and once I build my stockpile of Stars for future Ascended crafting, I won’t really need them anymore.
A ranged weapon makes this fight so much easier. (In fact, a lot of the LS2 boss fights are incredibly easy if you’re ranged as opposed to melee). I did the achievements on my Ranger with a 1500 range Longbow. I actually killed Aerin from the initial high platform without ever going down to fight him, thereby remaining completely safe from all the bombs he throws. (A vine will sometimes spawn to try and knock you down. Keep on moving from side to side or use stability to avoid this.)
However, if you have a 1200 range weapon, you can continue to attack Aerin from the central platform without needing to chase him around. Avoid the bombs he throws by side-stepping constantly.
You might need to link me directly to these surveys. A quick Google search for “male to female player ratio GW2” turned up a bunch of results that were talking specifically about characters, not players, which is a whole different scenario. Just as a good number of male players play female characters (usually because of the “if I’m going to spend hundreds of hours looking at someone’s rear end, I want it to be female” reason), a lot of female players also play male characters for the same reason.
Aside from that, my own personal experience in guilds is telling. My main guild has the 60-40 ratio I mentioned. Another friend’s guild I’m in is primarily comprised of female gamers. (There are like 9 girls, but only 4 guys.) A third guild is about a 70-30 ratio between males and females (I’m not that familiar with all the members, so there might be some give and take). That’s why I suspect that there is actually close to parity balance between the genders; it’s just that most female gamers see no need to reveal their gender, either because they feel it doesn’t matter, or because (sadly) they often get harassed once their gender does become known.

I think a 3 – 4 week release schedule would be better too (for all the reasons you mentioned), but the call is up to ANet.
Probably not intended, but it doesn’t seem like a major issue to me. Throughout the game, there are many Hearts that can be completed much faster than average thanks to complementary events that spawn lots of foes that give credit to the Heart. In fact, this Heart in particular is one I complete typically by just waiting till the krait attack event starts and then doing that.
Yeah, that’s one thing I’ve noticed. Every single Asura NPC is at max height (probably so players could see them more easily). I had to remake my Asura Ele just so he didn’t feel like a midget compared to them. >.<
The Firestorm might be large simply by virtue of the giant suit he’s in. The Berserker, maybe his increased size is a result of some obscure Flame Legion magic or a Scarlet serum he’s been given?
But yeah, it’s entirely possible it’s just “raid boss size mechanics”, similar to what Scarlet got during the Breachmaker battle.
Also, while I agree an unarmored, unassisted Asura with a sword realistically would have no hope of beating that unarmored, unassisted Norn with a sword, an Asura in full powered battle armor versus a Norn in full plate armor probably would be an equal match, depending on the quality of the powered armor.
If that’s the case, you should contact Support about getting a refund. (Chances are low as they generally do not refund for “buyer’s remorse”, but you never know.)
Mind you, I wouldn’t be against the SFSoM becoming cheaper per use, or getting its functionality upgraded to that of a BLSK.
You know it’s a bad deal, I know it’s a bad deal. But a boycott? That seems a bit extreme. Just don’t buy it, and inform other players so they can make their own decision. The numbers at the end of the day will speak for itself.
Actually, in MMO’s and most RPGs, the player base is almost equally split between males and females now (it’s something like 55-45 or 60-40, from what I hear). And female gamers tend to dominate the market for “casual” games like Candy Crush or Farmville. Male gamers do still tend to dominate for genres like FPS and driving games, but that’s hardly surprising considering these games still tend to use heavily male-oriented marketing.

Huh. You’re right. I wonder why supply has dropped so sharply. Possible speculation over next week’s updates? (As Novice level cooking mats, Potatoes might be needed along with Carrots and Onions for crafting the new Chef backpiece.)
I think the larger Charr could probably pull it off as well. Remember the gigantic Molten Berserker? He could probably dual-wield cannons. XD
Hmm… What if ressing someone gave you karma in addition to XP? (Capped within a timeframe so you can’t just keep downing and ressing the same person over and over.)
^ He’s talking about Dark Matter, which is used in Ascended crafting.
Salvage research has shown that BLSK’s do have a slightly better chance of returning Ectos and Dark Matter when compared to Master/Mystic Kits, and they also have slightly better chances of returning inscriptions/insignias. Since it’s not really worth using BLSK’s on Rares most of the time, and Exotic drops are likely to be few and far between (unless you do a lot of dungeon running), that’s why I suggest using BLSK’s for Exotics. (Of course, your decision will depend on how many BLSK’s you have stored up, and whether or not the item in question is worth it. An Exotic trinket with no upgrade, for example, is probably better served using a Master/Mystic Kit rather than the BLSK.)
“Most male Norn PCs”.
The NPCs tend to have varying heights, but almost every single male Norn PC I’ve seen tends to be the tallest and widest possible option.
My personal rule of thumb is:
For Basic/Fine/Masterwork items, use Crude/Basic/Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic.
For Rare items, use Master/Mystic Salvage Kits.
For Exotic items, use Black Lion Salvage Kits, or Master/Mystic Kits if you don’t have them.
I would like to say that I have seen a LOT more red posts throughout the forums. It’s very refreshing and I’d like to see it continue.
Being able to bounce ideas and feedbacks back to you guys, even if not all of them stick, is a great change from before.
It does give XP.
But besides that, the main reason I do it is because I know the downed player appreciates the help. I’m always grateful to the people who stop to res me when I go down.
It would be bad if Phlunt WAS the best of a bad lot. >.>
Yahk is obviously out due to his Inquest associations.
Ludo and Zudo might not take their duties seriously at all and basically just sleep/doodle during Council sessions.
High Councilor Flax appears to be flatly disinterested in anything that isn’t strictly Asura-related or about inventions.
So maybe, as much of an kitten as he is, Phlunt might be the only Councilor who’s actually invested enough in his role to take it seriously.
I got one in under 10, and have no use for it because I find all of the weapon skins grotesque. I’d sell it if I could!
You and me both. :/ I have no desire to get any of the Ambrite weapons. I’d gladly sell the Fossils to someone else. (I know we can trade it for Sandy Loot Bags, but getting 3 greens seems like a rip-off compared to how rare these Fossils are.)
So what it seems ANet is saying is that you will get more drops suited to your profession, but not so much so that it seems exclusive. What I take this to mean is:
1. Drop rates for items such as Loot Bags, Fine crafting mats, salvage items and junk items are unaffected.
2. Whenever you get gear as a drop, it has a higher chance to be suited to your profession. For example, if you’re a Guardian and the loot tables decide you get an armor drop, it can be Heavy Armor (50%), Medium Armor (25%) or Light Armor (25%). So odds are you’d get a heavy armor piece, but you will still see other armor drops on occasion. Previously, it was probably a flat 1/3 chance for any of the three types.
Ok. So I go ahead and drop $10 and get 800 gems. I then take my new gems and turn them into gold. Wait…
The exchange rate I wrote down earlier today was 100 gems turning into 12.16 gold. So 800 gems thus gets me 97.28 gold.
Now the last time I saw a gold spam it was for something like 100 gold for $10. HMMM.
So if I’m willing to take a risk, be stupid, or whatever you want to call it, I can get More gold from the spammers than I can from ANET.
Interesting, Yes? So I’ve said this before… WHY would I EVER trade gems for gold? There’s no profit in it for me. In fact, one heck of a loss as the system sits.
Question: What’s to stop ANET from dumping, oh say, One Million Gems into the pot?
Well?
One important thing that’s often overlooked is that a lot of the gold these gold sellers sell has actually been STOLEN from hacked accounts. So if you purchase gold from these lowlifes, you are most likely profiting off the pain and misery of a legitimate player.
Yet another reason never to buy from gold sellers.
Yeah, I’m keeping my expectations low. But here’s a list of potential changes I’d love to see:
- Dungeon runes are now tradable, similar to dungeon sigils.
- You can once again throw in 4 random Superior runes/sigils and get back a random Superior rune/sigil (should help normalise prices between the super expensive ones and the 1c above vendor price ones)
- You can now salvage WvW and karma gear directly. (Would help boost supply of Ectos (and indirectly, Crystalline Dust) and cloth.)
- Light/Medium/Heavy Armor sorting filters
- r500 Chef and Jeweler
Direct player-to-player trading is extremely unlikely to happen, since it would bypass the TP tax which is a huge component of keeping inflation in check.
@Lanfear: That’s actually a neat idea I hadn’t previously considered! Remember the “Heavy Equipment Packs” that got introduced for GW1? Maybe everybody gets a new bag slot that gets filled with an Equipment Pack, which is used only to store weapons and armor that are soulbound/account bound to our character. (Furthermore, these packs prioritise soulbound/account bound equipment, so if you’re weapon swapping, this means you won’t accidentally put your Exotic soulbound weapon into your normal loot bags and maybe selling it by accident.) This helps give players who have multiple gear sets more space to carry their loot.
At the same time, these Equipment Packs (of varying tiers) can be crafted, introducing more material sinks.
