Hmmm… Idea moment.
New Mystic Forge recipe:
- 250 Bloodstone Dust
- 100 Empyreal Fragments OR 100 Dragonite Ore
- 1 Mystic Salvage Kit
- 5 Thermocatalytic Reagents
Creates one Perfect Salvage Kit. This kit functions like an Upgrade Extractor, but has 5 uses.
Agreed. Make it either tradable like dungeon sigils, or at least account bound so other characters can use it.
I miss tafu. And they stated very clearly that the reason was because it wasn’t run eniugh and their lore reason was that of the possible scenarios, Fyonna getting to the Nightmare tree before Vevina or Leurent was unlikely. However, I counter that it is highly unlikely that Fyonna could have a prayer of defeating Vevina in the first place… which makes “up” the least likely path.
I never got to play TAFU.
I shall forever have to wonder at what I missed. From what I’ve heard though, the reason why people didn’t do the path was because of the bug(?) that made spawned spiders at the last boss not despawn after a wipe. Since it was viewed as the “hardest” path, people just avoided it in droves. (See AC P2 and CM P2 for similar examples. People hardly ever do those two, but they do the dungeon’s other paths all the time, simply because it’s regarded as “harder”.)
Would love to see dungeon runes become tradable. Or even just account bound, so I could use them on a character that might actually find them useful!
My sympathies to everybody who has this bug.
I was fortunate enough to get my achievements before the Megaserver was introduced, but I know how tough the Wurm is to take down, so not being able to get your achievement after all that effort has to be pretty disheartening.
^ Yeah, I actually did that once. One time I also came across a Thief and a Warrior fighting in the open field. I joined in the battle, but the Warrior (my ally) stopped attacking the Thief and told me to stop since they were dueling. I stopped at that, /bowed and went on my way after observing for a while. (They were REALLY good. Either of them could have crushed me in seconds.)
I generally don’t duel. I’m a terrible PvP player and I know it, but sometimes I do get into 1v1 fights when I’m out completing Dailies in WvW. If the player takes the time to /bow or indicate that they’re wanting a non-lethal duel, I’ll respect it, but if they just jump me with no warning then I’m going to use every dirty trick at my disposal to win.
Once I was trying to cap a Generator in EotM by myself. I’d killed the Vet Elemental and was halfway through capping it when a Thief showed up and attacked me. (Maybe they were trying to cap the Generator for themselves, who knows?) We danced back and forth for a while, me almost killing him once time, him almost killing me twice. But what the Thief didn’t know was that every time he retreated to stealth and heal, he was giving me cap time. In the end, he came darn close to killing me, but I knocked him away using Stomp, capped the Generator, and the RI Vet Elemental downed him with a single hit (he was also low on health).
Since there wasn’t any indication it was a duel, I stomped the Thief, but I saluted his corpse afterwards for a well-fought battle.
While I do see the point of people who argue against them going in the Wallet as they’re crafting mats, not a currency, I would not be against them becoming wallet bound. It would free up lots of bank space.
Alternatively, let us just merch the stacks (simplest method), or introduce a Mystic Forge recipe where we can combine Bloodstone Dust/Empyreal Fragments/Dragonite Ore with Bottles of Elonian Wine to create karma jugs. Good way to increase karma source while removing excess mats + a small gold sink.
Great Mesmers influence each other’s thoughts?
Hey, that’s the exact same reasoning I had!
After the War in Kryta and the rise of the Ministry of Purity, my GW1 characters decided the time had come to leave Cantha. They settled down in Kryta (where Queen Salma reinstated my Ascalonian Warrior’s noble house in return for his support during the War), and founded a new noble house. Her Canthan great-grandmother was the only Canthan member in the ancestry though, so she favours her Ascalonian heritage as a result.
Activities are actually a decent source of karma. They normally take about 5 – 6 mins, and you get between 600 – 1000 karma (if you’re good). That’s a pretty good return if you’re farming for karma and don’t like joining the karma train in EotM.
Personally I’m playing the Activities for the achievements, as well as the karma. I’ve already completed all of the Sanctum Sprint ones, and am closing in on the last Crab Toss (40 more wins!) and Southsun Survival (200 more games played) ones. The only one that will still take me ages to complete is Keg Brawl. >.<
As a roleplayer, I make characters based on a blend of aesthetics and an image I want them to portray.
My Human Mesmer is descended from my Ascalonian Warrior (male) and Canthan Assassin (female) from GW1, but favours her Ascalonian heritage. I wanted to play an elegant, educated and inspiring noble, and I felt a female would do better in that role.
My Norn Ranger was made female mainly because I can’t stand the male Norn’s caveman grunts. “HURRRRRRR!!!” However, I do like the idea of a self-reliant tracker and hunter who enjoys proving the Sons of Svanir wrong at every turn (ironically, her own father was a Son of Svanir).
My Asura Elementalist was made male since both genders look almost identical, and I liked the male voice and lines a bit more.
My Charr Warrior was made male since I just wanted to make a big, burly, fearsome warrior. XD His battle cries also sound more scary than a female’s.
My Sylvari Necromancer was made female since I wanted to make her like a D&D Dryad (who likes playing with dead things) as much as possible. (I was later very glad for this decision as I decided I didn’t really like the male Sylvari voice.)
I’ve noticed that if I attack enemies from max range while my minions are still running to catch up to me, it increases the chance that they’ll stand there and do nothing. Anybody found a way to break them out of this lethargy if this happens?
Hmm, I don’t think so. The impression I get of the Ministry is that many of them are “patch defenders”; they look out for their own self-interests first and aren’t interested in doing anything which might impact them economically or personally. Ambient dialogue in DR tells us that some of them advocate pulling away Seraph protection for towns like the Ascalon Settlement, for example, in favour of providing greater security closer to home.
With that in mind, it seems highly unlikely that they’d go to war with the Charr when that means a very real threat of Kryta getting invaded by a military force even stronger than that of the Centaurs.
I’m not going to get into the whole debate about whether 2v1 is right or wrong, but my personal feeling is that ANet is not going to outright block it from happening.
WvW is supposed to be war, and the Spring Tourney is war with an objective; to reach #1. When confronted with a foe that one cannot defeat by yourself, it only makes sense to ally with someone else to bring them down. Hence, the JQ/TC alliance to defeat BG. (For the strategy fans, this is exactly like the Wu/Shu alliance against Wei in the Three Kingdoms games by Koei.)
As the tournament rolls on, expect strategic goals to change. Maybe BG gets beaten so badly it can no longer be in the top 3, allowing SoS to sneak in. Then TC/JQ will gang up on them so they can be in 1st/2nd. And when it comes down to the final weeks, maybe the alliance gets broken as both servers jockey for the top spot. And who knows? Maybe if BG or SoS play their cards right, they could still snatch a top 3 finishing spot.
As a player, I readily admit I’d find a 2v1 quite frustrating when I’m a foot soldier on the ground, but if you step back and look at it all from a wider perspective, the political and strategic manoeuvrings going on is actually quite fascinating and entertaining to observe.
If BG managed to do that with JQ and TC attempting to rig the entire tournament, I would be pleased. On the regards of it being fascinating, the most interesting part to me is that this is literally entire servers. There is a lot of organization required in pulling something like this off, especially something that a lot of their players will be averse to. But there they stand. I would think even such a determined organization would fall at various times to the “red=dead” mentality, it seems nearly impossible to maintain. But once again, there they stand. Never tell them the odds!
Oh, I’ve seen some arguments on TC about the alliance at times. There are indeed a bunch of players who, as you said, ascribe to the “red=dead” mentality. I myself got attacked by a bunch of JQ players on my way to the water camp; roamers are fair game, it seems.
Ultimately I (and I think a lot of other WvW players) don’t intentionally take part in the 2v1. I mostly just hop into WvW for the karma train and my Invader kills; I attack whoever or whatever the Commander tells me to attack.
I think that BG might still be able to get a 3rd place finish if they take steps to knock SoS out of contention. Currently SoS is well placed to come 2nd due to it dominating the second tier Gold servers every time it gets put there. But if BG gets knocked out of the top 3, and then SoS gets constantly crushed by JQ/TC in its new spot, maybe BG could end up taking SoS’s former spot as the flip server.
Something I’m wondering; the people calling foul on TC and JQ. What do they expect to happen? Mass bans?
Yeah, that’s the other reason why I doubt anything would happen. What could ANet actually do as “punishment”? Revoke their points? That would cause a skritt-storm among players on the servers who, say, completed their meta by playing solely in EotM (something which ANet said multiple times was something they designed the meta around), and who would now rightly feel cheated out of their rewards.

Only if you are talking about us being able to stand together and give a CareBearStare as a group stomp.
You totally just made my day.
x2. Would totally spend gems on buying a Carebear Stare group finisher. XD
Ouch.
Report it as a bug to Support and hopefully it’ll get fixed soon.
Heh, gotcha. I do agree that many Runes/Sigils (but especially sigils) are unwanted because they are so niche or sub-par that nobody wants them. Still, the ability to MF 4 random Sup Runes/Sigils would at least help ameliorate the situation by making expensive ones cheaper and cheaper ones more expensive.
I already saw a “ScarletBriar” in game the other day. O.o Wearing the exact same armor and colour scheme too.
Actually, we’ve seen the separatists use weaponry that no other charr has shown thus far. I am actually very curious as to whom they have inventing these little marvels of mayhem.
What weapons would those be? The only Separatist I’ve seen use non-human/Charr technology is Uzolan, as mentioned above, and HE stole/reverse-engineered plans from Snaff. (He may have obtained said plans from the Inquest.)
My Human Female Mesmer uses fair skin, long straight red hair (the one with the hairpiece in the center of the back of the head), and I don’t remember which face it was. Slightly shorter than average height.
I’ve seen a few doppelgangers now and again, but it’s not that common. Besides, in an MMO with limited character creation options, you’re always bound to find a few “twins” now and again.
Just yesterday I ran into a doppelganger of my Sylvari, except that they were a head taller than me, and their eyes were red (mine were blue). We had the exact same hair, hair colour and skin colour though.
Queen Jennah would never manage to declare war against the Charr; the Ministry Council (which still seems to wield considerable power) would almost certainly block her. Even though Caudecus and his bloc would like to see Jennah brought low, I’m certain that getting Kryta into war with the Charr would prove more costly than it was worth.
But supposing it DID happen, I think the Charr would likely fight a defensive war for a few years until they can find a way to get their big siege machines and tanks to Kryta. Since the Asura would remain neutral and not allow war machines through their gates, they’d have to get their war machines over the Shiverpeaks to bring them to bear, and I don’t think those massive steam devices would fare very well in thick snow and freezing temperatures, and their sheer size/weight means they can’t be shipped via sea (except as parts that can be reassembled at location).
Without their siege engines, the Charr army would not stand a good chance of tearing down Krytan defensive installations, which has always been their stumbling block. (The Great Northern Wall in GW1, as a good point.)
Has anybody managed to solo the Krait Witch in Timberline Falls? She’s one of the few open world Champs I can’t solo due to her summoning Veteran(!) adds as well as mobs that explode when they die for tons of damage.
This is the non-boss Fractal, yes? I’ve been experiencing this too. Good to know it’s not just me.
Indeed, they are not. However, it’s also important not to let it get to the point where they DO become game breaking.
If the Watchwork Pick came back at this point AND the bonus remained, I’d seriously consider upgrading my 5 Molten Tools to the Watchwork Pick. I do a lot of harvesting, and all those spare Sprockets could come in handy either as additional income or as raw mats for fueling my journey to r500 crafting.
Bank Express
Black Lion Express
Gathering Booster
Meh. At least it was free. :P
Yeah, Aidan is right, Wanze. You CAN get a lot of the craftable sigils/runes from the Mystic Forge. (I got a Sup Rune of the Ranger once, for example.) I think that bringing back the ability to MF 4 random Sup runes/sigils would go a long way towards normalising prices.
This probably falls under the “grey market” area, similar to players who trade outside of the TP. I don’t think ANet will act against people who are doing stuff like this, but at the same time, if you happen to get scammed (either as a buyer or seller), then ANet will not help you get your money back either.
If people want something from the gem store, they always have the option of trading gold for gems, or opening their wallet. Those are the officially sanctioned methods. Any other method is at your own risk.
I do agree that cloth prices do need to be looked at a bit. I’d reduce the requirements for Damask to 50 Bolts of Silk (down from 100), and also change the salvage tables so that salvaging cloth items gives back 50% more scraps. (e.g. from 1 – 3 to 2 – 4 for gloves/helms/shoulders/boots, and 3 – 5 to 5 – 7 for chest/leggings.)
Technically leather should also get the same salvage tweak, although it’s in a pretty decent price range due to less demand.
They can’t be transmorgrified at the moment, yeah, although I’m sure ANet will reintroduce them (or the trans recipe) when r500 Jeweler is introduced.
This thread is nice for the suggestions for cheaper dyes that look very similar to more expensive dyes, so kudos for that.
As far as colour selection though, I say just go for whatever you find aesthetically pleasing. If you want to make your Necromancer pretty pastel pink and wield a Princess Wand, go for it! Don’t give a skritt about what other people think; it’s YOUR character and you’re the person going to be spending the most time looking at it, so make something that YOU like looking at.
Can’t help you as I’m from Tarnished Coast, but I hope you and the mystery Charr/Quaggan ranger find each other!
I salvage all of mine, unless the Rare price is worth at least two or three Ectos (basically almost reaching 1g).
Unfortunately the Megaserver still runs into the same old problem that was plaguing TTS and the other mega-guilds set up to kill Teq/Wurm. You NEED to get in early, because Teq and the Wurm are still setup to require a minimum of a large amount of players to complete. If you arrive late, or just have the bad luck to get stuck in a server with people who don’t care or are uncoordinated, you will have 0 chance of killing the boss.
Then again, I’ve heard that Teq and the Wurm actually got nerfed in the Apr 15 patch so that it’s doable now by smaller groups of around 40 – 50 people. (Or 60’ish for the Wurm, with 20 – 25 people at each Wurm).
Oooh, that’s a nice idea, Astral!
The Flashback NPC lets you redo any of the past LS instanced content, which has a reward chest at the end. Taking a page from SAB, these chests drop tokens and have a rare chance to drop a sellable version of past LS skins. Otherwise, you can accumulate the tokens and trade them for an account bound version of the skins.
With the introduction of the Wardrobe, I think there’s a much larger market for people wanting to “collect them all” (or at least as much as they can afford) too, so it could prove a useful activity/gold sink for the game going forward.
ANet did hint that we would hear the Marionette battle music again, although we don’t know if it’ll be the Marionette itself or whether it would just be re-used in the future.
Would love to fight the Marionette again though. Best Living Story boss battle, in my opinion.
There’s a few ways to get Blade Shards:
1. Harvest them from the Watchwork Sprocket node in your Home Instance. There is about a 20% chance to get a Blade Shard per strike. (Won’t help you, I know, but just putting it here for completion’s sake.)
2. Kill Aetherblade mobs in the Not So Secret jumping puzzle.
3. Kill Aetherblade mobs in the Aetherpath of the Twilight Arbor dungeon.
4. Kill Aetherblade mobs in the center of the Edge of the Mists WvW map. (Harder to do since the Aetherblades here are much tougher than usual.)
5. Mystic Forge recipe:
- 1 Pile of Glittering Dust
- 1 Pile of Shimmering Dust
- 1 Blade Shard
- 50 Watchwork Sprocket
This creates about 10 – 15 Blade Shards. Supposedly there is a rare chance of getting 50 Blade Shards using this recipe, but I haven’t confirmed that myself.
Ehh, I wouldn’t say “never”. I’m thinking there will be another reconstruction effort (completed in time for the next Dragon Bash) that gives ANet a superb opportunity to suck up those excess Blade Shards and other materials from the economy.
Heck, I bet that the player base has enough Bloodstone Dust to rebuild LA entirely out of Bloodstone!
Ouch.
Hope this bug is fixed soon.
And while they’re at it, hopefully they’ll fix the “That Had to Burn” achievement too that’s been broken ever since Tequatl got beefed up.
Sigil of Geomancy works too. (Basically, any sigil that has an effect on weapon swap.) This bug affects all Activities, not just Keg Brawl.
As a side note, if you die to Bleeding in Keg Brawl, you have no way of respawning and so are stuck being dead unless someone resses you or you disconnect due to inactivity.
Some of these events won’t actually appear unless previous events have failed. For example, I believe that roadblock event only occurs if the bandits have destroyed the pumping station AND the event to repair it hasn’t been completed for at least 10 mins.
With the introduction of the Megaserver, it’s likely that many of these events will go unseen now since there are more players to prevent events from failing.
It’s not exactly new. People have been tripping themselves to death down slopes ever since launch.
Just be careful where you leap in PvE; in WvW, you learn where are the safe spots to jump down after a while.
Yep, what Khisanth said.
I have zero interest in town clothes, but I always support more cosmetic options for players, so /signed.
As the others have said, it works very well if you run a Phantasm build, although I find that it sometimes puts me into situations where I need a clutch heal and Signet of the Ether just doesn’t cut it. (e.g. I just came out of a tough fight against multiple Vets, am dying to conditions, but since enemies are dead, I’m not getting any healing). Sooo, I mainly switched back to Ether Feast.
I do use Signet of the Ether underwater though, where for some reason clones/phantasms just seem to live a lot longer and the 3D arena means I can usually keep out of range of any nasty lingering effects.
As far as I know it was never explicitly stated what a centurion commands. We know that a Centurion commands multiple warbands, but my guess is that due to the constantly fluctuating numbers within the warbands due to deaths/desertion/acquiring new members, having a precise number of troops under a Centurion as a standing order is impractical.
My guess is that Centurions get assigned however many warbands their Tribune feels they are capable of managing and/or is required to accomplish the task at hand. For example, a Centurion in charge of ensuring stable food supplies to the Citadel from Diessa Plateau may have as many as 10 different warbands focusing on ranching, but only 1 or 2 military warbands in charge of protecting them. A Centurion assigned to lead the assault against a Flame Legion stronghold may instead have 5 assault warbands, 2 engineering warbands, 1 espionage warband, and 3 supply corps warbands. Once the assault was over, the warbands under the Centurion’s control would get reassigned to wherever they were needed.
It’s been nerfed? I haven’t fought him since the Apr 15 patch; should go give him a go again sometime. (Killed him once with TTS, out of 10 – 12 attempts. I can’t even imagine a server full of randoms ever succeeding pre-nerf.)
Note that in the hypothetical situation, despite eventually selling the item for 50% than the farmer/adventurer did, the flipper made about 33% as much as the farmer/adventurer did from the transaction. And most flips are less profit than that per item, he makes money on the volume and velocity of trading while the farmer/adventurer makes money on the amount of time and effort he spends on the game.
Yep. And this realisation is actually why I’m actually not really fussed about flipping or speculating anymore. (I was a bit bothered about it in the early days, I’ll readily admit.) When you take into account time spent on research, putting in orders, watching prices and the ever-present risk of game updates ruining your investment in an instant (see Fires of Balthazar backpiece), the amount of gold made per hour by TP players actually isn’t much different from, say, studious dungeon runners or farmers (although I think top-end farmers like Vol got a serious nerf on Apr 15, so this may no longer hold true).
It’s just that the majority of people who farm or run dungeons aren’t hardcore about it; they don’t farm all dungeon paths once a day, or hop between servers to take advantage of guaranteed node farms or high volume events. They compare their income with what the top percentile of TP barons make and feel jealous, but in reality most TP players probably make close to what they themselves make per hour.
That would depend on whether the increasing price of gold → gems actually drove more people to start buying gems with cash. I’m not convinced it did to a huge extent. In my experience it’s more likely that people who buy gems with cash would have always bought them with cash; they are cash rich, but time poor. In contrast, the people who buy gems with gold are time rich, but cash poor (usually, but not always). If gem prices get to the point where they simply couldn’t keep up anymore, they’d stop buying gems and either leave the game, or complain about prices on forums.
