so wait, are we talking about the Tequatl where we usually just zone in, gather a bunch of people, chill, chew the fat a bit, then leisurly kill the dragon with 9-10 minutes to spare on the clock?
And people obsess over how big or small the turret defenses are? Wow, I’m certainly glad I don’t happen to come on to those maps…

When I maxed out tyria mastery, it felt really weird to not get anything for XP, but over time I’ve come to appreciate it; I no longer feel compelled to look at my XP bar and get lured into “only a few more and I’ll ding again”. To me, the lack of “reward” for XP is a reward in itself since my game has become more relaxed since.

I can’t wait to max out HoT masteries so I don’t have to worry about XP ever again!

Achievement: Seasoned Toymaker

So you(anyone) got the check mark in the Toymaker achievement?

I just looked, and I do not have checkmarks for any of the repeatable ones, even though I did some of them many many times. I do know, however, that they did count for me, since I did get the meta completion upon completing choir for the 30th time.
So, even though it doesn’t register a checkmark in the meta, it still counts for the meta completion.

Really now..instead of looking it up just look at the resolved name…

ncsoft-xxxx.c.telia.net

Now come to realize that it’s not the ISP but the node between telia and ncsoft. Yes it’s probably managed by Telia but it’s still the “ncsoft” node aka: NCSoft is leasing bandwidth slots from Telia. My ISP has nothing to do with that node. My ISP is responsible for the blacked out area to Telia – that’s it.

Example for YOUR copypasta:

Routing through Level3. So ISP-> Level3->ncsoft. PLoss happened from ISP to Level3. Now that’s something you can contact your ISP for (not that they would do anything about it).

Your copypasta is as relevant as saying GW2 is cpubound to a person with an i7-Extreme cpu and an integrated GPU.

However it’s most likely just heavy load/holiday DDoS. So we won’t see anything being done…sadly.

I had lenghty conversations with Anet support about this specific router a while ago (when I had problems with it), and they explained in great detail that they have absolutely nothing to do with them. It’s a matter of fact that the domain is telia.net, so that’s the owner of the node. The fact that they have chosen to set ncsoft as part of the name simply means that that node is dedicated handoff to Ncsoft and in extension Arenanet.
I never said that the problem lies with your ISP. However if you wish for a solution to the problem you must ask your ISP to take the matter up with Telia. That’s the unfortunate truth. It’s either that or change ISP to one that doesn’t route traffic through this Telia node.
If you want more detail from Arenanet, I suggest that you do what I did back then; open a ticket and talk directly with support. That way you can get an actual response from them.

This problem is not inside Arenanet, it’s Telia, who are a network carrier. Arenanet has no control over how your ISP chooses to route traffic to them, so if you want to get this problem sorted I’m afraid you have to talk to your ISP, and point them to the failing Telia routers.

If you refer to my plot…did you even look at it?

All the telia nodes are fine and PL happens at the first NCSoft-Telia node.

So your copypasta is misplaced here..

Not saying there aren’t tons of unresolved ISP problems with GW2.

Actually, if you check your first error, 62.115.43.74, at https://www.whatismyip.com/ip-address-lookup/ or some other ip addres lookup site, you’ll find that it is owned by TeliaSonera. So yes, I did look at your plot…

Obsidian Sanctum Mission: How many clears?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I don’t know what achievement you’re talking about. My Obsidian Sanctum achievement doesn’t have a recommended number of players. And I only had to do the JP once to get the achievement. Regardless, though, if it did say “15 players” that means that it’s recommended you do it with 15 people; it doesn’t mean that you do it 15 times.

I don’t think it’s the achievement, it’s probably a WvW guild challenge to run that JP – I have never seen that challenge in my guild so I don’t really know the answer.

Wintersday Jump Puzzle (need guidence)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

You need to jump pretty much just as the bottom center red present appears, then spam forward jump until you get to the 3rd from the top, then go diagonal to the next one then straight up. (2nd from top has a tendency to blow up very early.)
You also need to do this very much non-stop – there is no time to stop and aim for the next one, just go. It takes a few attempts, but don’t give up – in time your muscles will remember how it’s done.
If there’s more people then you waiting there, make sure to not jump after others do, either be the first or jump almost exactly when the others do. If you miss that, better wait until the next go since you won’t make it.

Best of luck!

Bad UI design cost my son his bank guild

That’s strange – I went to guild hall to test this.

First, I had to actively select the secondary guild since main is always pre-selected, then when I clicked Leave Guild I did get a confirmation prompt.
Now, I wasn’t the only member of said guild, but I would expect that there’s a confirmation box for leaving a guild when you’re the only member as well – would be strange if they had less confirmation for a more destructive action.

I’d say either you hit a bug or clicked on the confirmation without reflecting on it. Sadly that’s how confirmation boxes tend to work; you know you have to confirm, but since you’re certain that you know what you’re doing you don’t stop to reflect.

Again, I can’t say for sure what happened in your particular case, but when I tested it seemed to work properly.

Mordrem Invasion Update: 11 September 12:30 PM

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

Here’s what I posted in the other “constructive feedback” thread – cross posting here for completeness:

I’m trying to find something constructive to say here, but it’s really hard, since I feel the event is really really wrong, and for a number of reasons (all of which have been stated countless times):

  • The events feel quite stale, like old bread – it’s 3 basic events that’s been done to death, so already from the start it didn’t feel very inspiring to take part. I more felt like “ok, I’ll try this once, but I sure hope there’s a decent reward”, and that’s not right – events really should be entertaining to give the “yes! I like this” feeling instead. I wish I could come up with ideas on how else to design this, but alas, I’m no game designer.
  • Due to the reward structure, it really encourages people to “tag and run”, since that’s the only readily available way to get to the 20+ that seems to be required for maximum drops. A far far better design would be to base the reward on how many events you really stayed to completion, and then lower the required number for maximum reward., possibly coupled with a count of how many events the map cleared. That would give people an incentive to stay for event completion, and also work together on getting many events done.
  • Since the events themselves, and the mobs, do not give any reward whatsoever (no XP, loot, karma, or anything) it becomes a substantial cost just to zap around to the different events, and in the end we have nothing to offset the cost. (Sure, for veterans it might not be too bad, but even so having to WP maybe 110-15 times during an event runs up to 25 silver, which may be a significant cost to many, especially the newer ones the event is supposedly for.) The events themselves should at least grant enough silver to not lose us that much money, plus some karma and a random piece of loot, blue or better – nothing fancy, just a little something.
  • The limited duration of the event, coupled with the high number of blossoms (?) required for items makes it feel really grindy if one wants a nice item. For me, it just made me walk away from the entire thing, and I have no plans whatsoever to take part in them, but for those who desperately want the items, it’s going to take a huge amount of playtime just to work these events. A possible solution here would be to either let the event run for the “usual” 2 weeks, or to make a substantial change to the cost structure for the items, such that people with less playtime could get the items.
  • If the event is really for the newer players (as has been said by many, though I personally haven’t seen that in writing), having the items cost quite a few gold on top of the very limited number of blossoms, also seems strange – a new player probably won’t have lots of gold to dish out on a vanity item. This could possibly be changed such that the cost becomes a factor of the total play time accumulated by the account? If I’ve played 10 hours, items cost 10s, while if I’ve played 5K hours they might cost 50g (just throwing numbers around here as an example)

Overall, I would recommend that you take down the event and re-think the entire structure, then come back with an event that feels more balanced.

There was quite a few accounts that were caught in this kind of scenario a while ago, where credit card transactions were first accepted then deemed fraudulent and refunded afterwards – which led to accounts being closed in this way. Perhaps this is what happened here too?

I know that Michael Henninger did get involved and was at least going to have a look at the procedures. Maybe that’s not 100% implemented yet? Anyway, Inculpatus is absolutely right in that you have to keep updating the ticket with additional info, and posting in the sticky, asking for a second opinion.

Hop #8, 62.115.10.106 is clearly the issue, and that (and similar) has popped up many many times in the past. I really wish that Arenanet would have a chat with Telia about this server pool.

While replies in the past from Arenanet have been less than encouraging (“it’s out of our control – it’s the network” kind of replies), whenever I’ve called Telia I just get stonewalled (“we’re Telia the ISP, that’s Telia the international carrier – no can help”, sort of). It seems like if Arenanet would sit down with “Telia the international carrier” and express concerns over network connectivity, it might have a chance of getting attention.
It’s getting real old having connection issues over a network carrier’s inability to keep a server pool steady.

I have an update!: I’ve had another email from support, advising that the payment processor deemed the transaction suspicious, hence the account suspension. Support have reviewed my account, and deemed the purchase absolutely fine, so my account is freed up again (huzzah!). I’ll have to ask my husband to check if the refund money is back in his bank account again, as we have to purchase a new copy of the game for a new serial code (my old one and HoT one will no longer work). Hopefully the purchase will stick this time.

Zohane, I hope you get your situation reassessed. Perhaps a chat with your card provider, and their take on it may be of use? I don’t know how much it would help, but perhaps they can assist with advice or confirmation your card use is acceptable. If so, maybe you can then try opening a new ticket. Good luck with it!

Yay! We got my wife’s account back as well. It seems the tickets for Review thread works after all. Thanks Ceridwen for hoping for me when I had sort of given up myself.

My family is in the the boat as you.
After buying HoT for my account, we proceeded to buy for my wife. The transaction was denied, so we switched to my wife’s card and managed to buy, but the day after the account was suspended. We sent in a ticket to support explaining the sequence of events, expecting the account to be handed back to us, since we had done nothing wrong, only used credit cards we own to buy stuff from Anet. A few Days later the following response came in:
“Looking at your account, I see that our payment processor found your purchase attempt met certain criteria indicative of a fraudulent purchase attempt. As a result, our payment processor preemptively refunded the purchase of the serial code and returned the funds to the cardholder. Also as a result, the serial code was disabled and the account was permanently closed. The account will remain closed and is not eligible to be reopened for any reason under any circumstances.”

After this, nothing has happened – the ticket has been thoroughly closed, with no reply to our plea to have a second look at it, and the “tickets for review” thread seems to have been abandoned by Anet – no red post for almost 2 weeks.

There’s at least one more similar situation posted in the tickets for Review thread, so there’s at least 3 accounts that have been closed over this kind of matter.
See https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/GW2-Tickets-for-Review-3-days-older-1/5284243 and the post 2 above that one.

So in conclusion, OP, yes there’s more than you in this situation. We also have no idea how many have not posted here, and how many have no way to post here since they don’t have a second account available.

Just hopped on a Sparkfly map 5 minutes before spawn time. 3-4 people gave good direction, and people made an effort to actually work together, and without too much effort we beat the event with more than 3 minutes to spare.

Look folks, all it takes is a will to step away from 1-1-1-1-1 and actually do the event “right”. Skeleton crews at turrets and range, and massive zerg at crit spot, drop cleanse on there, take down the fingers – the usual, only with a bit of focus. Oh and a few leaders who guide people. That’s all.

I just joined a Tequatl map about 15 minutes before the event. It was not organized by any group, so a few people started leading and planning out the event, with info about how the changes affected us.

After about 3-4 minutes people were claiming it to be a “fail” map and the usual kinds of blaming “noobs” and such ensued. However, we pushed on and made it into battery defense at 6 minutes on the clock. first stun phase Went kind of bad, so we had about 3 minutes left when 2nd battery phase started. Again people cried “fail”, but we pressed on. 2nd stun went very well so we had about 1:30 left when we entered last battery phase, and the final stun phase went even bettter, so we ended up killing Tequatl with about fortyfive seconds left. Sadly I was so excited I forgot to take a screenshot.

So this was a non-guild map which pulled together and worked as a team.

Totally doable, but takes effort.

Edit: it seems that 45 follwed by ‘s’ gets kittenized.

Honestly, if your listing fee alone is 200g, that means you’re selling a 4ooog item, and you really should know and fully understand how the market works when you do that. It is, always have been, and likely always will be, a tricky place to play, and I for one don’t think that this particular market segment should be made less hasardous to play in., so no thanks from me.

As for the lower price segments, the issue is most likely non-existant since the risk is much lower there.

2 days in a row now, many of the EU zones have had what appears to be server-side crash just as Tequatl is about to begin. The symptoms were: many (most?) DC’ed and we had a mini rollback to several minutes earlier.
This happened at the 16:00 UTC events both days. I have not checked what happened at other times.

suggestion: remove Delaqua and Meade

in Living World

Zohane.7208

The previous attempt was deleted without any explanation I would understand so I will try another time, but now I will be as brief as possible to minimize a chance to write something which would cause this to be deleted:

Remove NPCs Marjory Delaqua and Kasmeed Meade from the game. They are very unlikable and annoying. Also many people I meet ingame do not like them, so I think that this step would be welcome by many.

Hm, I kind of like them; their dialogue is sort of amusing and slightly whimsical, and yet they provide enough guidance to help me advance the mission I’m on without too much trouble. So please keep them around.

honestly, I don’t think Arcana Obscura is scaled for a solo player, because it’s excruciatingly slow by yourself.

All of the story mode instances are quite doable solo, including Arcana Obscura. The extra achievements, however, are a different matter. Quite a few of those are hard, if not impossible, to solo.

I must add to this.
the battles are in no way hard, but they are boring, tedious and take too much time.
the boss battle especially.
u should base those battles off of Zelda when u repeat the cycle 3 times and that what gives the satisfaction. 3 times is not too much and not too little.

the last battle in the living story took me an hour, after 4 times repeating the cycle I started watching tv, when he got to half health I went for a launch break.
seriously if it gets to the point when I do a battle only to finish it and do other stuff meanwhile it means the battle is bad designed.

this is not hard, this is not challenging, this is just tedious.

4 times? That strikes me as odd. For me it was:

  1. Tendrils
  2. Fire ring
  3. DPS boss (down to ~50%)
  4. Tendrils again
  5. Fire ring again, with the smotherer
  6. Final DPS on boss

And since I don’t have über DPS on my engi, I can’t imagine the fight taking anyone more than 2 cycles. Strange.

Uhm…

If you’re talking about the instanced content, I’d say all of S2 content is entirely soloable. I ran through the entire story on my engineer, which is by no means my best character, and I’m no pro at the game in any way. If I can do it, I’d say anyone with a decent computer and connection can.
The hardest so far for me was the dragon fight in mystery cave, I spent probably 30-45 minutes on lighting the 2nd ring of fire. (Afterwards I realized that the smothering thingies were killable, but I was able to complete even without that knowledge.)

Now, if you’re talking about open world content, those fights are designed for groups but that’s as is should be; open world is meant to have people in it. And you can finish the Silverwastes fights with 5 people at each fort, and probably a little more for the Vinewrath fight.

So I’m sorry but if you’re on a warrior you should not have any problems with the instanced content, unless you have a low-end machine or poor IP connection.

Teq - Lack of loot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

LOL last night I was doing Sparkfly Fen events when suddenly Teq spawned and I was right in the middle of it O.O

I killed some things and defended batteries and stayed alive and got – somehow – 3 achievements and a ton of loot it’s the first time I’ve ever done it!

Btw is it fairly normal to beat teq, or did I just get lucky? Fun anyway

Glad you enjoyed your first Teq!

The Tequatl meta event is usually beaten unless you come to the map just when it starts, then you’re likely to be put in a totally unorganized, or even mostly empty, shard – and then it will fail. If, however, you’re on the map a Little in advance, I’d say the success rate is in the high 90-percentile.

The thing to look for is if Teq is about to start (check your favourite timer site for details) and there’s no commanders in place near the event, bring up lfg and look for a taxi to a better zone. Also, don’t be afraid to ask around if you’re not sure what to do, people are usually very helpful on achievements and such.

Teq - Lack of loot

I usually need to go 30 minutes early to ensure success.

To the people that are able to just go in 5-10 minutes before spawn. Do you play at reset time? Since for me, if I go in 5-10 minutes before it usually is a fail.

Reset for me is in the middle of the night so no, I don’t go then; I’m more likely to be there at the 1600 UTC run, so that may be a difference.

Teq - Lack of loot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

Dunno, I usually turn up 5-10 minutes before Teq, and either find a taxi, or me and 3 other randoms tag up, taxi people, and do the event. If I turn up 20, 30, or even 40 minutes early, chances are I’ll get a worse map since a lot more people will have gone afk and forgotten to come back in time for the event.
Out of maybe 100-150 Teq runs, I’ve seen only a few (2-3) fails doing it this way, so it seems pretty stable.

I also always get 3 rares from the exo chest and more often than not I get that Little spoon that’s 10s for free, and not too infrequently I get 1-2 more rares or one of the Teq exos. Add a few hordes and a couple of minis to top it off and it’s pretty reasonable loot imo. Don’t forget the 2g and 14K karma as well.

Now, I may be extremely lucky with drop rate though I doubt it – my luck seems to be pretty mainstream on other drops – so I Think it seems like the loot is pretty ok for the effort.

Just my 2 cents.

A Treatise on Tipping

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zohane.7208

When Southsun Cove was new, there was an achievement that required an item that was found at the end of Skipping Stones, arguably one of the hardest JP in the game. Naturally, many of us grabbed our mesmers and worked through the JP and started porting people. I got a lot of thanks and a couple of people even tipped me a few silver. That gave me a nice feeling of being appreciated, even though I never expected anything beside a simple ‘ty’ for it. After a few days the tone was quite different; if there was no mesmer there some actually demanded that we brought them in to give ports. Needless to say, that was the day I took my mesmer from Skipping Stones, never to return. I don’t mind helping my fellow gamers along, but when they demand it and almost rage, that’s when I stop doing it.

Some other day, I was in Fireheart Rise, and had just finished Pig Iron Quarry when I saw the next person falling off half way, so I pm’ed and asked if he wanted a lift, which he gladly accepted, so I ported him up and took off. To my surprise, I received a mail containing 1g. I immediately pm’ed the guy again, telling him “thanks for the kind thought”, and returned the money. There’s no way I’ll accept that kind of tip when I actively ask someone if they want help.

Someone called it “paying it forward”, and that’s the way I like to see it too – if I’m kind to someone else they might be kind to the next person. If only 1 out of 10 actually pays it forward, I’ll have made GW2 (or RL) a better place to be and that’s really the only reward that matters.

Feedback and Personal Opinion

First of all, dungeons are one of the disciplines of PvE, so it’s entirely reasonable that they are part of PvE daily. Also, expecting only solo stuff for PvE daily doesn’t really seem reasonable for an MMO, seeing as it means “massively multiplayer online”.

As for WvW, I see that as mainly PvE, with an additional flavor that I have to keep a Close Watch and be ready to run in case opposing people come. Most of the dailies in WvW are very much PvE: Camp Capturer? Find a camp that the opposition owns and take it over (run away if players enemies come). Master of Ruins? Find a while ruin and go stand on it (again be ready to run). And so on. I can almost Always find 1-3 WvW dailies that are PvE so that I can do them.

The only PvE dailies I Think may be unneccessary are fractal 11-20 and 21-30 – they may not be so easy to get if you’re not a fractal runner. All others are easy – fractal 1-10? Make an lfg for “fractal 1, all welcome” or similar (or join if there is one of course). They fill in no time. Daily fractal? There’s usually lots of groups doing swamp on level 1 so you can join one of those.

Overall, I find dailies are less of a chore and much more rewarding now. It only takes 3 to get the 10AP, plus I get some fluff on top of that for each one I do.

Common sense for players

There’s 2 kinds of adds around Copper:

  • The small ones are best to kite away, but even if they die near boss the healing is really inconsequential so they don’t matter too much either way.
  • The poison bubbles absolutely have to be killed, and as far away from boss as possible, since they will heal for about 2% of his Health.

If these 2 simple things are done, it really doesn’t matter if people do AoE – it’s probably even helpful since AoE damage tends to be quite massive.

Servers lagging more and more.

Unfortunately, posts like these aren’t gonna help Anet too much, since there’s no indication of where the problem lies.

In order to get the best possible help, run game advisor and open a support ticket with the output from there as attachment. Then Anet can at least understand where the problem lies. Surprisingly often it may not even be at their end or at your own ISP’s end, but somewhere in the middle. A certain server from the network operator Telia tends to pop up quite often as the source of these lags, for example, and in that case there’s not a whole lot Anet can do, but the network operator has to do something about it.

Trade Box-trading alternative suggestion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

Guild Wars (1) had pretty much exactly that – 7 item slots plus one money slot for each side, and both had to accept to finalize a trade. While you’d think it was really safe way to trade, it was ridden with scams – one common way was to do a late replace with an item of the same Icon but worthless, and hope that the other part didn’t notice. Another was to offer, say, 10K, and then do a late replace with only 1K, again hoping to get the other to accept.

So, overall, I much prefer the TP since it’s 100% guaranteed scam free.

New to GW2

Zohane.7208

Do you mean like this? That’s the star you get for world completion

Sorry I am new to GW2, the guy was only level 25?

Don’t be fooled by the apparent level. GW2 has a downleveling system so that you get downscaled to roughly the level of the area, and that’s what you see. So for example if I take one of my level 80’s and go to Queensdale, it will have the stats of a level 2-17 depending on where in the zone I go. That’s also the level others see when they look at me.
This means that you can’t expect to totally faceroll low-level zones, but it also scales so you get XP relative to your own true level. Kind of tricky formula, but basically if I do a level 15 event on a level 80 char, I get a lot more XP than if I do the event on a level 15 char.

Same bad server hop all the time

Zohane.7208

It was kindly pointed out to me that this server belongs to, and is operated by, the ISP Telia so if you want this issue fixed, you need to open a support ticket to Telia or to your local ISP.

So basically … the final server that leads to NCSoft servers (and even has NCSoft in its name) is working bad but that is not NCSoft/Anet problem ? :/

That is … amazing -.-

Here’s a couple of quotes from the replies I got from Anet support, which may be helpful:

Hello xxxxx.

The report you provided confirms the suspicions you had, yes. However, those servers even though they have the name NCSOFT are not under our control. We have literally zero control over how the data is routed from your ISP to our server. Think of us like a supermarket here xxxxx. We open our doors and wait for people to come in and shop. Your issue would be like if there was a traffic jam or accident on the only road leading to our store. Will that affect the amount of people that can drive to our store and come in and shop? Yes, absolutely. Is there anything we can do to resolve that issue? No, not really. All we can do is contact the people or departments responsible for the issue, which we have done. Beyond that, all we can do is wait like yourself until those parties decide to fix the issue.

To be honest I can’t tell you exactly why the Telia networks servers would contain “NCSOFT” in the name as they are not ours and more simply the hand-off server to ours. This is information I believe only our network engineering team would be privy to and so unfortunately I don’t have that information to provide.

So basically it’s Telia who use these servers to communicate with NCSOFT corporate network, and from that standpoint it’s pretty reasonable that Anet/NCSOFT really don’t have any way to fix the problem.

Do I wish Anet could/would talk to Telia? Sure, but I understand if it’s not in their power to do something about it.

I assume that you refer to the fact that only half of your processors are being used?

I’m not expert in AMD processors, but I’m reasonably certain that your system is a quad-core (4 processors on the chip) with hyperthreading being used, so that each core looks like 2 processors. Each thread, if used, would run slower than if if you only use one thread per core, and software knows about this, so they optimize for that, and in this case it’s optimal to only use one thread per core, so you get this behaviour.

It’s perfectly normal, and almost all PC’s today look like this, so I wouldn’t worry

I have to chime in with the many here, in that the low drop rate really isn’t good.

In itself, a low drop rate might be ok, even though my 30-ish runs without any drop makes it painful. Imagine however, 6 months from now, when “no one” goes to Silverwastes anymore; making a successful Vinewrath run will be a nightmare, let alone 30-40-50 runs to get all the boxes. That could take hundreds of attempts. Effectively it probably means that most who don’t get the skins now will never be able to get them.

I Think that a low drop rate should be for events you can do relatively easy, and probably doesn’t require huge groups of people. The mega events like Vinewrath should have a high drop rate, possibly even a guaranteed drop, just to make them possible to get when the event is not longer the “mot du jour”.
