Reporting inappropriate guild names?

I submitted a ticket for this kind of issue once, since I found no way in-game to report a guild name. At that time I also asked how I should have done, and apparently that’s the correct way.
So, just send in a support ticket (“in-game issue”) for this and I’m sure Anet will have a look at it.

I have to say I don’t understand how achievements from meta events and/or wvw participation demonstrates any form of leadership ability or even knowledge of events.

As long as there’s no real need to demonstrate leadership to be allowed to get tag I don’t Think it should be differentiated – and definitely not on something so arbitrary as achievements or AP.

Should LW progress be account based?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

I would imagine the rewards would still be character based, but the progress in terms of what’s marked as completed and available would be account based. I think they’re going to be forced to make this change sooner or later as the story continues to grow larger and larger.

I would not make this assumption; as far as I can remember, every time something in GW2 has been made account bound the rewards have also been made account bound. (Though I may remember wrong here, correct me if so.) If that’s the pattern then making LS account bound would take away rewards for all but the first run-through for the account.

Uhm, I think I disagree on just about all of your ideas…

1) Melee is punishing, oh yes, but it’s also rewarding in that you do a lot more damage. There’s dodges, blocks, reflects and such, plus most big damage attacks are well telegraphed so you can always move sideways out of harms way. (Myself I’m not good enough to pull this off so I take a bit more damage than I should but that’s my shortcoming, not the game’s.)

2) Basically same opinion as for previous – damage avoidance is key.

3) I don’t really have an opinion here.

4) I liked dungeons, but according to Anet they took too much resources/time to develop, so they went for fractals instead. I can support that, but I agree that they should probably be coming at a slightly faster pace.

5) Wholeheartedly disagree – I like running the story sequentially. If they were pick-and-choose everyone (me included) would just run the fun/rewarding ones and skip the rest – eventually they would all be null and void.

6) I don’t have this problem; I’m always wading in hero points so I have no problem unlocking elite specs.

Most of these points above misunderstand the problems entirely – in particular #2, #5, and #6.

Ah yes, for #2 and #6 I see that my reading skills needed to improve.

2) Don’t really have opinion on this; I guess the fights are ok enough in my book – although I admit to being a scrub (see #1).

6) I now see that this isn’t so much about elite spec (or any other spec for that matter) acquisition but about the tearning curve to master them. I can agree to this.

For #5 I still maintain that I don’t find this to be an issue. I still enjoy running through the entire story, from level10 personal all the way through to One Path Ends. I can understand that others may not like it.

Thinking about getting GW1 for HoM

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

Having played GW1 since the beginning, I can honestly say I would do it again if I were just starting now. Not just for the HoM rewards, but because the game is awesome. It is a completely different game than GW2.

I soloed it for the whole seven years until GW2 dropped. I have my GWAMM too.

Getting to 30 points and getting all of the HoM skins shouldn’t take horribly long. Getting to 50 will take a quite a bit longer. Titles are the only thing you get after 30, however. It sounds like you want your GWAMM too, however. It can be done solo. I did.

No you didn’t.

Unless you are telling us you farmed all the mats for the armor sets and never used the traders, never bought consumable title points and so on. And then there are the mini, like you telling us you randomly got everyone you need through bday gifts? Never bought a hero armor from another player? Solo DoA to get a tormented weapon?

I mean ya it’s obviously mathematically possible but I find it unlikely your “solo” is applicable this guy’s scenario. Not unless we all login to our gw1 accounts and dump platinum, materials, minipets and consumables we have banked from years of play onto him, will this guy ever have a reasonable chance at 50 hom and gwamm in the next 1-2 years.

The solo part he mentioned was GWAMM, and as we all know, GWAMM has nothing to do with DoA or tormented weapons… Getting GWAMM solo for an experienced GW1 player is in no way impossible. There are a couple of hard spots but they’re certainly doable…

Thinking about getting GW1 for HoM

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

Not sure if this will matter to you or not, but GWAMM has nothing to do with HoM points.

Instead, you have to achieve 30 maxed in-game title tracks. This is enough of a daunting task since it usually involves doing every single mission in normal and hard mode, vaquishing every single zone, mapping the entire game to 100%, and a lot more.

50 HoM points give a completely different title.

I see, I thought it was when a player reach 50 HoM points that they unlock GWAMM. I enjoy playing GW2 a lot that it only took me 1 week to level a necro to 80 and another week to finish world map completion and I did the same for my warrior so within 1 month I had two maxed out characters with 100% world map completion and fully equipped with exotics. It did not feel like a daunting task at all to me because I was enjoying throughout the experience. What you’re describing here sounds very similar to GW2 so maybe it would be a different experience for myself.

I imagine myself getting to 30 HoM points if that’s all I need to do, but my main concern is that I cannot guarantee myself to get to 50 since I will be required to interact with players to trade and who knows how the population is now. If it’s possible to achieve 50 HoM points and complete the 30 in-game titles by playing solo then I might purchase GW1 because at the very least I can guarantee myself that I can dedicate my time and effort to do it.

It’s not about the HoM points at all Almighty, it’s the in-game titles you need to max.
Have a look at https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Kind_of_a_Big_Deal for more information about what it takes to get to GWAMM. You will get several HoM points as well while working your GWAMM title.

Thinking about getting GW1 for HoM

I’ve been playing GW2 for 2 months now and just recently discovered about all the items one can get from HoM if they played GW1 in the past so my question is as a new GW2 player with no experience with GW1 at all should I buy GW1 just to farm those points?

I was a bit disappointed when I found out that I can only get GWAMM through playing GW1 and getting 50 points because I really want that title too. I wish ANET could give another option to be able to purchase those titles and skins from HoM for new players that never played GW1 in the past.

Not sure if this will matter to you or not, but GWAMM has nothing to do with HoM points.

When are you "rich"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Found a cool site that gave me some answers. =)
https://gw2efficiency.com

So if you break 57,432 gold on your total account worth you enter the top 10% of all players. =)

For pure Gold availible 1143 Gold breaks you into the top 10% apparently.

Am I reading the data correct if some one can check it out. =)

That is correct.

Actually this is not correct at all.
gw2efficiency only knows about the accounts that have registered an API key with them; all other accounts are not accounted for at all.

I would guess (yes, it’s only a guess of course!) that a very low percentage of all GW2 players have done so, let’s say 10-25%. I would also guess that this is skewed towards the higher percentile of the players, simply because those probably have a higher interest in details and economics. So putting those two assumptions together I would guess that the 10th percentile is much much lower.

Again, I’m just guessing of course.

The meaning of "Game"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

My question was about your statement “That is their understanding of ‘game’”. How do you know what Anet’s understanding is? Did you read it somewhere? Please provide that information.

To be honest Djinn, I’m tired of your permanent desire to find errors and false statements, while everybody who can read between lines clearly knows that what was written is an opinion or an impression, based on indicators rather than evidence. You don’t need to point out every time that something you write is your opinion or that you believe that something is like this or that. 90% of what people write in forums is an opinion. If you see something that doesn’t have a source or evidence attached, treat it as an opinion, it’s that simple.

Would it make you happier if I had worded it like this: “My impression is that this is their understanding of ‘game’”? Adding this to all the stuff we write wouldn’t make it more readable or easier to understand (no, I do not have evidence for this statement).

I don’t remember what your method is called in communication theory, but please try to stop it. You are not adding any value to discussions by doing this.

Thank you

I’ll have to agree with Djinn here; stating opinion as fact is really not a good communication policy. You could easily have said “This seems like their understanding” etcetera, which would have made it clear that you were stating an opinion.

That aside, I also don’t agree with the assessment of Anet’s understanding; I see very few similarities between GW2 and “Nintendo hard”. Then again, that’s just my opinion

Dungeon Master achievement ( TAKE A LOOK )

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

Hello. I want to talk about this achievement coz i find it really pointless.
Even nobody wants to complete dungeons, not even go and explore dungeons you guys making an achievement like this and makes it trash.
This achievements wants us to complete all those 8 dungeons + their story mode + all paths. This is okay its a good/hard mission to do. But reward ? look at reward. Just a " Dungeon Master " title and +10 achievements points. REALLY ? Even doing 40 minutes PvP gives MORE things of that. Even with “dailies” you can get more of that. I will totally complete all those dungeons and my reward only will be that title ? Please do something special for that. for dungeoners. Instead of that title. Nobody wants to do dungeons anymore. Please think about that dear Arena net. We want a super good reward for that !

http://i.imgur.com/RLQBEeS.png

When you do a dungeon path you get rewarded for it.
IF you happen to do all different paths, you get a nice little title, some AP, and a new repeatable achievement opened up. Since you’ve been rewarded many many times already (at least once for every dungeon path) there’s for sure no need for additional rewards in my opinion.

Now, if you feel the reward isn’t good enough, remember that there’s no actual effort in this achievement, above the achievement of actually completing the dungeons – which, again, you get rewarded for each and every time.

Trading post bots

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

Is this allowed? This seems like it could easily be a large part of why so much stuff sells at garbage rates, and why undercutting is so aggressive.
Earlier I noticed someone selling the same item I was trying to sell with a large markdown compared to the previous seller. There were only a couple of them listed, and I didn’t want to lose a bunch of money because of this idiot, so I tried to just buy them out and relist them. But the second I bought them out, they were instantly replaced with the same cost and quantity. I tested this three times.
In the amount of time it took to finish saying that the item had been purchased, it was already back up.

So I looked into this, and yeah, trading post bots are easily available to anyone.
This seems really unhealthy for the market.

I bolded part of OP. It seems to indicate that there are in fact bots available to get. I do hope that OP sent links to said bots to Anet so they can try to block them.

Whether or not it’s these bots the OP has been hit by I can’t say of course…

Seera’s advice is still solid; by making sure you have no more than one open ticket and posting that ticket in the sticky you can ask for an escalation of your problem to someone who may well be in a position to step outside the formal process at CS and work more closely with you.

The trouble is, each time you open a new ticket (which you did as late as a few hours ago) it counts as new activity on your original problem. However, I think Anet have also said that you can post your ticket and ask for an escalation immediately if CS say the problem is closed. If I were you I’d post the original ticket number in the sticky, and ask for a review/escalation.

Guild Hall Clearing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

A few of us in my guild were capturing Gilded Hallow for a few members’ personal bank guilds, and each time we did it with 6 or less – the lowest was 4, but that was with extremely lucky spawns of the first groups. Lost Precipice is probably similar but I haven’t captured that more than a couple of times and each time it’s been with 6-7 people.

The thing to remember is that you actually have pretty decent time on each of the groups and that the biggest cause for failure is if you rush to the tenders and too many down/die from mobs. Take your time killing enough mobs, and only after that take care of the tenders. As long as the players are reasonably competent with their classes it shouldn’t be a problem.

UI is terrible.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

There’s been a million complaints about the UI (for a reason) and a million suggestions about making it better, so I’m pretty sure Anet will make a major overhaul to that at some point. Just be patient.

To join the salty complainers; I honestly don’t understand why the UI wasn’t customizable in the first place. All we get is 2 different positions for the map and chat boxes, and a size adjustment. A more or less tweakable UI has been something considered self-evident in video games (MMOs especially) for years now, so I’m honestly curious why they decided to make it like that and still haven’t changed it.

The UI being non-customizable was a decision Anet made since they wanted people to “play the game not the UI”, so I guess that was one way they tried to make GW2 different. (I don’t have a source link but I’m sure it can still be found here on the forum for those inclined to find it.)

Personally I don’t mind the UI, but then again I’m not much for tweaking UI’s, I’ll learn to use it instead.

in GW2 it’s meta or f* off, that to me shows the flaw of the game.

-snip-

In GW(1) you could make almost any build work as long as you went by yourself or with heroes/henchmen, the same it true in GW2 as long as you stay in open world.
In GW(1) virtually all hard mode parties required you to use quite specific builds, the same is true in GW2 when you party for harder stuff.

I don’t really see the difference.

Why ia build variety a joke in gw?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

That’s a really simple counting task.

Just imagine a set of each and every possible builds :

  • Now, just keep the “what works” subset (i.e. remove absurd things like DPS skills with condis stats).
  • Now, keep the “What’s useful” subsubset ; because, unfortunately, in open PvE, you mostly need DPS…
  • Now, check whether the builds in that subsubset are roughly as effective as each other, or one of those shines so bright in effectiveness that any other seems useless. This subsubsubset is now called “Meta”
  • Now, in that subsubsubset, look for builds that also belong to the build set labeled “What I like to play”.

At this moment, are you left with that many options ?

If you feel the need to run the meta builds then you’re usually not left with many choices – technically meta is the best build for a given class/role so you should only be left with one build in that case. This is always true.

If, however, you’re not concerned with meta and are prepared for things to take a little longer, there’s a huge number of viable builds. Will they be good enough for everything? No of course not; for highest levels of play you will need meta but for anything else, your favourite build plus skill should be enough to let you proceed and hopefully have an enjoyable experience.

However, since free accounts can NOT send gold or items and can also NOT spam map chat this is certainly not to address those issues.

I would assume this is just one of the (arbitrary) things Anet put in to make f2p accounts feel more restricted in order for it to be more attractive to buy the full game.

Suggestion to fix Multi Map Wrong Sub

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zohane.7208

That sounds like a solution in search of a problem. It’s a fix for players who are doing a meta who drag their icon to the wrong subgroup. This isn’t a problem except for a few people doing one meta and performing a certain type of specific subgroup juggling. It doesn’t sound like the type of problem that needs Dev hours to fix.

As a programmer its the type of problem that would take less than a day to fix.
I even stated a basic solution. It’s literally less than 50 lines of code. I’m sorry if you hear the words Hash Table and think its “too complicated”. Those that are in the industry would find this solution simple.

I am constantly amazed at how some people assume to know how Anet’s code is written and how easy it would be to implement a solution in their code.
As a programmer since 35+ years I would never make such an assumption.

There’s no need. Here’s a good suggestion:
The box will spell out the item’s name IN THE SAME color.
Then much like in the gem store, the Yes button has a double function:
[yes]
and then
[accept]

So the item’s name is spelled inside the destroy-box, and you have to doubleclick the yes button without moving your mouse away from it. Easy enough to do intentionally without getting frustration. No need to spell the names of items, and best of all, no way to say ‘oops, I accidentally clicked yes’
I see no flaws in this idea.

I see a few unfortunately:

  • “Oops, I accidentally doubleclicked yes”
  • “I’m so used to merching cheap rings so I double-confirmed without thinking. I wish there was a proper confirmation box.”

Any confirmation box will inherently be “normal” to click and thus meaningless.

Im sorry, but people who will have that problem, simply have failed the ‘ready for real life’ check

If you say so… However I don’t know anyone who has NOT made that mistake at least once, so I guess that we’re all “not-ready-for-life”.

Thing is, once you get used to the double-click to confirm it becomes automatic, since you don’t tend to make mistakes. That’s why – in reality – these kinds of checks always end up failing.

  • It also becomes a wide grey zone what items are to have this confirmation box. Should a trash exo, worth a few silver be there? Probably now. A 5g or a 50g exo? Possibly, but then it becomes a problem of finding “proper” value. How about precursors? Very likely. Ascended items? Possibly, but then again not all items are Worth having the box for.

All in all, I like the idea of being able to lock an item so that it becomes impossible to get rid of until one manually removes the lock again. It could even be default to lock all exo/ascended/legendary items.

Agreed, doesn’t even have to be a reward in it (though rewards are always nice), but at least a message sent to you would help take out some of the confusion.

Now we just wait for those who ask for a daily message along with 10AP :O

Great to allow a commander to give his tag

I am a commander tag and I can appoint another person to be the commander and pass him the tag!
This is great as it allows those with potential to lead but don’t have the gold for a tag to be the commander!

Are you sure it’s possible to appoint anyone? I always assumed it was only possible to appoint those who already own a tag.

anyone who knows how to lead already got a tag, I serious doubt anyone who cant even afford a tag can lead consider how easy it is to farm gold nowaday.

A couple of thoughts here:

  • I don’t see how the ease of farming gold relates to command abilities?
  • I also often hear people say that they consider 300g too much for the comm tag and that apples are just fine for them. So it might be that they can afford it but still don’t think it’s worth it.

Oh, so it seems, my mistake.

My client has an additional checkbox after those 3, and that’s “Show Only English”. I think it’s time for you to either try a -repair or send in a support ticket and have Anet look at it – looks like there may be something wrong with your game client.

What ever happened to the filter for other languages?
Inside of WvW there is people speaking multiple languages causing us great confusion.
Is it possible to bring back the “Filter out non English” feature to the chat?
It would be greatly appreciated.

The option is still there. Click the little cog symbol in the top left corner of the chat box and select ‘Show Only English’.

It’s not perfect because it’s based on what language the players game is set to. So if they have it set to show all text in English but type in French (for example) you’ll still see it. But it should hide some, maybe most, of it.

I’ve often found it rude of people to join a game’s NA/English server and spam global/map with a language other than English. I personally try to avoid doing it myself if I play a game on a foreign server.

If you look carefully at World selection screen, it doesn’t say “EN” on the regular worlds, it’s just the french, german, and spanish ones are specified. That could well be taken to mean that the other ones are more intended to be “international” in which case all languages are ok. Oh and there’s at least 2 official languages in North America, English and French…

If I see map chat I don’t understand, I’ll just assume it’s got nothing to do with me and move on.

How about character naming before creation?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

While not optimal, you can do this:
1) Create a character but skip all steps to end, then pick your desired name and create character. Now you know that the name is available.
2) Delete character. Your name is now reserved for 24h.
3) Spend as much time as you need over the next 24h to create your proper character.

In-game Gemstore item Refunds

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

I don’t care about a discount, let me gift them to friends. They are literally useless right now.

They are, as has already been said NOT useless, if you equip them they are as usable as the day you bought them. The fact that you have chosen to buy other items (shared slots) which make them obsolete for you is neither here nor there.

Anet are usually fair about giving you a refund if you recently bought an item, but if you’ve had them for quite a while (30 days I think is the cutoff) it’s assumed that you’ve already derived value from them so therefore they choose to not refund. I personally support that position.

If you were able to give them away that would also have the drawback of them being sellable (on or off TP) which would lessen Anet’s Revenue from sales, so that’s highly unlikely to happen I’d say.

Raids and build snobbery

Tempests have plenty of group support. All reapers have is condi strip, blood is power, and sometimes transfusion (though that is a crutch).
Viper tempest can pump out might and fury with fire fields and provide vigor and regen instead if needed. They also make easy-mode tanks with infinite protection and 50-60% damage reduction.

If you really think that you have a superior build, why not submit it to (for example) metbattle.com, and have it vetted? You might be right in which case your discovery would help the community progress

Raids and build snobbery

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zohane.7208

Can I just point out that nowhere in the short process of:

1. Being asked to link my gear
2. Being kicked
3. Being told my build was wrong

was there any dialogue about being flexible. There are lots of keyboard warriors here defending the min/max meta nonsense and yes, meta is the culmination of lots of input and collating strategies. The inflexibility however was demonstrated on several occasions by the “experienced raiders” where the situation reads as “meta or do one” and THAT is what I would define as snobbery.

As for the racing example earlier in the thread, that’s also a mute point, you HAVE to be able to drive to be allowed to obtain a racing licence, which is a demonstration of ability. Where was the opportunity to demonstrate? Non existent, null, nil, nada. Nope instead the suggestion was that rather than good players they just want people that can read strategy guides and spend gold on what other people have worked out to be effective.

Sorry but if that’s how raids work here, I’ll do something more rewarding, like throwing my main off the Airship in GF repeatedly

This has nothing to do with raids. Pick-up Groups (aka PUGs) will Always take the safe option of demanding meta for hard content. Remember, as has been pointed out earlier in this thread – they don’t know you or anyone else, so there’s no knowing how capable you are, and rahter than taking a chance on something that might or might not work, they go for the meta choice.

The only ways you can get around this is to either join a good raiding Guild which may show leniency toward your custom build, or start your own Groups in lfg and lead them yourself.

Now, this was true in dungeons a long time ago, and it was true in fractals (may still be, i don’t know), and it’s true for raids.

And no, I’m not one to have all the good gear and stuff, so I have opted out of raids and also high-level fractals. I’m perfectly happy playing the game in my gear and at my skill level. Do I wish I were able to get into raids? Maybe, but it just seems like a lot of “work” for a game I spend my free time on.

Macro Emotes???

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

This is very much a question of the definition of “one action” – depending on whose point of view is taken “one action” could either mean “one keypress” or “open a stack of bags”.
Personally I would never program any macro to perform more than ONE sengle keypress, since I feel I’m then 100% safe; I would really hate it if I programmed a macro to do “/dance” and have my account banned over it. Not that the risk of that ever happening is anything but miniscule.

I would say that the only 100% safe way is to not even program an emote; anything but that runs the risk of falling under the bannable definition. It’s entirely up to the OP to decide how big a risk he’s willing to take.

What is Anet's stance on P2P trading?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

GW1 literally had a two-tier trade system. You accepted to trade, then you submitted items/gold. The other party would also submit items/gold. Now both parties have to hit accept. If either party changes the items they have submitted for trade then you need to resubmit before you can accept. If you can get scammed with that system then support should laugh at you.

And still scams were common in that “scam-proof” system, and support was bogged down with reports. That is the main reason for going away from p2p trading and going to a TP. The 15% gold sink is an added bonus; without it (or Another sink of the same level) inflation would be rampant or drops of all kinds would have to be reduced by the same amount – and people already now complain about drops.

I’ll refrain from comment about your view on those that get scammed, and just hope that you never end up on the losing end of a “hurried” transaction.

A couple of things:
1) The screen shot supplied is from the Mystic Clover page, and directly above it is a statement that the MF recipes have a 30-32% chance to drop clovers.
2) The wiki is authored entirely by players, so if there’s something inaccurate there it’s because the player base percieved this to be true. It’s not 100% solid information provided by Anet.

Suggestion, Patron Membership

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

I have a suggestion, I was thinking that you guys could probably get some more revenue if you offered a Patron Membership.

Patron $10 to $15 per month.

Offer perks such as

Remote Bank, BLTP access.
Free Waypoints
Increased gathering rate.
Magic Find Bonus
Some sort of generic not fancy Infinite Gathering tool.
Maybe either a discount or Gem voucher.

I suggest this because you guys don’t always put things in the store I’m interested in buying, I realize that content isn’t free people have to get paid, the more revenue you have the faster we get content updates and the bigger they are.

Just some food for thought, you can still keep offering the daily log in rewards and keep things the same for non Patrons, I just want a consistent way I can show support except through sporadic purchases.

This seems like it would generate a substantial benefit for the “patrons”; all of the suggested perks safe you a lot of time and/or money that the rest of us would have to spend, or would give you income that others don’t have – in the end generating an imbalance.
I’ll say no to all such ideas. If it were about getting a special mini or a rainbow-coloured balloon, or anything else that does not give you an advantage I think that might possibly be ok.

Why is everything so unfriendly to melee?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zohane.7208

Zohane.7208

If I remember correctly, there was a great outcry from a portion of the community, who felt “forced” to melee Everything so I think HoT was actually designed to give greater balance such that the risk/reward ratio for melee and ranged would be more balanced.

So… I Think the OP is on to something here, and the answer would be that it was a very vocal set of players who convinced Anet that it was indeed a good idea to shift the balance a Little in favor of ranged.

That said, it’s still not that hard to melee most of HoT, including but not limited to Mama Vywern. D/D thief (not even Daredevil, and not even zerk) works great on mama!
