Am I the only one wants Dwarf?
Yes. You are.
Have you done Triple Trouble? I think there’s a mastery point or two in there.
They made a clear statement. People will misinterpret any- and everything ANet says to suit their agenda.
Or maybe anet’s diverse customer base of players from all over the world, from different countries, speaking different languages – sometimes where english isn’t their first language, might just not understand the same english text the same way, with no agenda intended. A clarification wouldn’t hurt. A different phrasing could help a different segment of the audience understand it.
I say bring in a whole new race, one that’s never been seen before and has arrived in Tyria after being unsettled by whatever the next dragon turns out to be.
A few more questions after a week with HoT

I would say do not rush through HoT just to finish masteries. Most of the mastery lines have only small QoL benefits and rushing through maps just to get them can be detrimental to savouring the experience.
I would actually advise the opposite, from my experience. I struggled with the jungle until I got my masteries done. Now I can jump anywhere, use any tunnel, fly as long as I like, use ley lines, stealth while gliding and enter poison areas. I can now move around the jungle as I like, and it makes for an enjoyable exprience where previously I felt hampered. I can reach any vista and hero point on any toon and explore and map the jungle to my contentment.
There is so much to do in the jungle that getting the masteries done quickly isn’t going to take away from the experience. In fact, not having the masteries took it away from the experience for me. I would argue that they’re aren’t just QoL. They’re basic mobility skills you need to acquire. Then you can start playing, trying different events, different professions, completing achievements and the like. But that’s just my view.
Got around 30 crowbars in 10 minutes. You can easily farm them if you want to from the Itzel farmer events. They run back to back sometimes they even overlap.
I can believe the acquisition rate. I’ve been spending a lot of time in VB lately, doing as many events chains as I can, and have been steadily collecting crowbars.
What I don’t understand is how people get 250 stacks of them. As I run around doing events, I open every airship cargo I come across – basically using up all the crowbars from the events.
Are the people with 250 stacks simply farming them and not using them?
Yup. Concentrated on VB last night, trying to follow event chains from start to end, and a number of times got “you’re inactive” for things I was actively doing. I persevere, bottling up the pain inside until it grows and festers into something.
“Wow! That’s some nice armour!”
“Thanks!”
“Thanks!”
“Thanks!”
“Thanks!”
“Thanks!”
“Thanks!”
“Thanks!”
OMG. I was in DS and trying to interact with a vendor when all these soldiers standing nearby said that. They chat zones must have overlapped the vendor’s and I clicked them by mistake. All of them. At the same time. But not the vendor. Thoughtful design. (slow clap)
Dude, obviously the staff serves as a conduit for drawing the energy from the ley lines beneath the land into your body which you then fire from your hand. Clearly, the staff has to be placed on the ground. It’s physics, darnit.
I’ll see if I can learn anything about it.
Sooo…. uhm… (shuffles feet)…. anything new?
Maybe a candidate for the Ele forum? Plus the title is a bit misleading. Plus I’m not sure what you mean by rerolling your mesmer’s “look” into a different profession.

This is a huge waste of mats to craft something before being able to preview it and then realizing it is crappy looking. Not everything is listed in the wiki yet.
The wiki does not have everything yet
Uhm.. did you just quote yourself to agree with yourself?
yes
i edited my comment though
Ah. Lol.

I’m sure it’s just a forum bug but you’ve created the same thread twice, with slightly more text in this thread.
(At least you’ve realised that the elite specs require hero points and not xp, as you thought in your other post. That’s progress. )
If you do all the hero points in core tyria you only need a couple in the HOT maps, and most of those can be commune points. There are plenty of communes in VB. Enjoy.
Someone has to say it…
THIS IS NOT MADNESS
THIS IS MAGUUMA!!

You have that problem with airship cargo? I only run into it with noxious pods.
You could be right. I noticed it on noxious pods. I don’t remember if airship cargo does it now. I may be guilty of libel on that poor cargo.
Incidentally, I like the glowy indicators so much I kind of wish they’d appear on other things, like speed mushroom patches maybe in yellow, adrenal mushrooms in red. Maybe even hero points in blue and mastery points in green, the latter two not glowing after you’ve got them of course.
I see the PVP dailies every day and I ignore them – I don’t feel any unrelenting pressure to do them, just as there’s no pressure to do jps.
Maybe the pressure you feel is your own soul crying out for that sweet, sweet taste of jumping puzzle goodness…
Go on. You know you want to.

I don’t know what to call them – those glowing particles you can see through the terrain that tell you where airship parts or noxious pods are.
I love them. They’re fantastic…. but, could they please disappear once the item they’re indicating is harvested?
It’s confusing having harvested some pods, then coming past again and seeing the glows I think I’ve missed some only to discover I haven’t.
Did you need to create yet another post for this instead of adding to one of the recent existing ones?
Speaking of “masteries”—————-why does the system operate differently in Tyria than in HoT?? In HoT, mastery points can be gained character-by-character, thus allowing the account to master all of the tracks. In Tyria, once a “mastery point” has been gained, that’s it!!———-and that means there are NOT enough available “mastery points” to allow for the tracks to be completed————————-UNLESS the player (NOT the character(s)) elects to play “fractals” and/or “dungeons” and/or PvP. For TOO MANY of us, group play is NOT a viable option—- ok when there’s a crowd that wants to do the same thing—————not so good otherwise. This includes WvW by the way———too often one sees a “follow the leader” group blindly going from a start point to ?? without rhyme or reason.
I’d much prefer having “mastery points” collectible by the character (limited as it is in HoT for follow-on characters) in Tyria as well.Ummmm no …….
Once an account has gotten a MP in either Core or HoT it can no longer be obtained by a different char. I know this for a fact since my other half was in HoT with a new char just this morning maybe about 2 hours ago and went to a new spot to her with a MP and a HP. Went to commune the MP and it said “nope you already have it” while the HP was still doable since the HP are per char. No, that’s not “quite” right in HOT. Most of the “commune” points CAN be achieved and mastery points received by multiple characters on an account ( in HoT only). This action does NOT work in the Core (and it should). Agreed, “named” mastery points are achievable ONCE per account in both HoT and Core.
I think I see what you’re saying. The commune points, being hero points, are indeed specific to each toon. The “named” mastery points you’re referring to are mastery points located in the world which can only be received once per account. Then there are the mastery points received by different toons for completing their race-specific story achievements or something, if I understand correctly. I haven’t explored the last avenue yet but that’s what I understand from reading about it on these forums.
Opinions are absolutely valid. Again, I’m sorry if my words sounded like an attack—that was not my intention. I’ve just been getting a bit frustrated with the recent hate on the jumping puzzle dailies and I guess I’m afraid that ArenaNet will end up removing them from rotation again, and I would be really disappointed by that.
So this is my /vote for JP dailies to remain (or be expanded on! more more!)
SECONDED.
I’d like both jps and world bosses in the dailies. As a compulsive achievement completer, I love the dailies. They’re like little missions you get each day. I’d be happy with more and more dailies of all kinds… except activities. We all have our bugbears.
And, on a side note, it would really help if that list on the right hand side that shows the dailies you’ve selected could show them all by default (optional, of course). I don’t mind giving up screen space to info I find useful.
Auto-follow would be a great feature for bots…
Sure, but it could be disabled in open world pve so it’s not an issue.
So.. uhm.. if two players in pvp target each other, turn on auto-follow and set their #1 skills on auto-attack… wouldn’t that be a form of AFK playing?
The same happens with Golem II. He’s constantly dropping my target and if I’m not watching the little bar at the top of the screen (cause I’m focused on what’s happening in front of me) I end up wasting time before I notice I need to reacquire him.
Feels a bit like fighting the interface instead of the foe.
Personally, I’d love (though I know I’ll never get) an option in the Inventory screen settings that I can switch on, which will do the following:
1. Automatically opens any bag/box I receive.
2. Automatically salvages all rares and below received from the bags/boxes.
2. Automatically consumes all luck received from the bags/boxes or salvaging until I reach luck cap.
3. Automatically consumes all drinks received from the bags/boxes until that all drink-related achievements are completed.
4. Automatically deposits all depositable mats received from bags/boxes/salvaging.
5. Automatically processes all sand received.
6. Compacts my inventory.
That’d be my little christmas right there.
-Auto follow target combat assist. This will make melee combat far far far more user friendly and enjoyable.
I’m also curious about this one. Can you elaborate? Do you mean when you target something, your toon literally runs after it? Or something else?
There are other games that use auto follow and I’ll elaborate with an example…
Press “R” and you run toward your target. Press “R” again to stop following target.
Ah. I see what you mean. But it sounds a little hazardous. Running straight towards something is the surest way to get killed.
You still have full control over your character, but it just assists to stick on target and particularly helpful in melee combat situations.
I’m just having trouble envisioning it. If you press “R” to run towards your target, how close does your toon run to the target?
Target enemy.
Press “R” and you run up to target.
You start smashing your target’s pixelated face with your pixelated hammer.
Your target dodge rolls to the side.
Your character automatically turns to face the target and automatically follows and you continue to smash pixelated face…
…It’s an automated follow system that tracks your target so you can focus more on attacks. You still have full control over your characters movements. You can break the tracking at any point. Your auto follow can break under certain conditions like losing sight or they go into stealth.
It’s been a common feature in mmo games since ancient mmo times.
Yes… but how close does your toon run to the target? 300 units? 600? 1200? Does it depend on what weapon they’re wielding?
I haven’t played any other mmos, so I’m not familiar with this feature.
Perhaps we need a mastery to learn how to open multiple boxes? Cause, you know, it takes a mastery to know how to jump on a bounching mushroom. It’s totally not like jumping on your garden variety non-bouncing mushrooms.

I felt a little weird about it when she asked to be left alone in Rata Novus. But she’s so darn cute… I’m sure she can charm the beasties to leave her be.
I sell all my sigils/runes to vendors by double-clicking each one in the vendor’s sell window, so some bulk way of selling them all would be nice. But I’m intrigued by the idea of a sigil/rune eater to add to my mawdrey/princess/herpa/star of gratitude collection. I’d probably not use it, but I enjoy acquiring gobblers.
I have found a number of things in GW2 that juuuuuust aren’t named quite right.
- One of the harvestable wood nodes is called an “Ancient Sapling”. A sapling is a young tree. How can a young tree also be “ancient”? And why is it one of the physically largest?
- In Wayfarer Foothills a “Passed Out Warrior” walked right by me. Hmm… I suppose he could have been sleepwalking.
- I found a bunch of dead “Pact Survivors” while running around in Heart of Thorns. I’m no expert, but shouldn’t survivors be – you know – alive?
- My Charr Warrior uses a rifle. The animations for his shooting skills show him bringing his weapon up to his shoulder, and sighting down the barrel to fire. …All except skill number two – “Aimed Shot” – which has him shooting from the hip.
What oxymorons and contradictions have you found in the game?
1: A plain sapling is a young, LIVING tree. Ancient saplings that we chop down are [b]definitely[/i] not living anymore, and their age is measured in numbers big enough to classify them as being ancient (the age definition). Additionally, it could also be the largest because… well, those saplings were quite likely immature versions of trees similar to redwoods.
2. It’s fine. They’re probably walking back to the point on the map in that heart area where they lie down so someone else can dump water on them.
3. You arent getting the train of thought here. They SURVIVED the reprisal against the pact fleet, hence Pact Survivors. They didnt necessarily survive what came afterwards.
Spoilsport. :p
Personally, what would work for me is a combo box that allows me what rarity to prompt at. The default would be ‘Rare’ which would prompt for rare and above. I would set it to ‘Exotic’ myself. Precursors are all exotic, aren’t they? They don’t come as rares?
-Auto follow target combat assist. This will make melee combat far far far more user friendly and enjoyable.
I’m also curious about this one. Can you elaborate? Do you mean when you target something, your toon literally runs after it? Or something else?
The idea of salvaging by rarity is interesting, but it would need the caveat that it doesn’t salvage from invisible bags, so we can keep some items of that rarity if need be.
And, yes, adding sigils and runes to Sell All Junk, or possibly adding a Sell All Runes/Sigils option, would be useful too.
Thank you for the update, Gaile. I haven’t experienced the event yet (no time) but every time i hear about it (even broken) it makes me more curious..
It’s been going on for hours. I started experiencing it 5 hours ago, and found there was already an open thread on it. You can read about it in this thread in the Bugs: Game, Forum, Website area of the forums.
And they said they are fixing it. Give ’em a chance!
They can have all the time they want- it’s their content. I’m simply pointing Zoltar (or anyone else interested) to the info relating to the issues with the event, should they experience what a lot of people did tonight. Including myself.
Thank you, Siobhan. I think by the time I finally get a chance to play they’ll probably have it resolved. Well, fingers crossed anyway. Thanks for the info.
This issue has been raised so many times I’ve lost count, but this is the first time I’ve heard an idea like your xp tanks. I can see some arguments you might get made against it…but personally, I like it.
Thank you for the update, Gaile. I haven’t experienced the event yet (no time) but every time i hear about it (even broken) it makes me more curious..
Well, okay then. Good luck to you.
You haven’t really said much to ‘take it over from here’ and the few terms you’ve thrown out don’t seem particularly suited to masteries. Maybe elaborate on those ideas you have?
Yes. No. Maybe.
I don’t consider the XP a waste. I consider the XP showing as acknowledgement that I’ve killed something, and that it’ll count as progress during an event or a renown heart.
I’m not sure what you’re saying. The issue here is that when you’ve maxed out your masteries, any extra xp you earn just disappears. It doesn’t count as progress towards anything. If you’re seeking acknowledgement, it does briefly appear on the screen as yellow text, but it has no other value in terms of progress. The OP is asking for the option to hide that text, ostensibly because seeing it come up when it means nothing is annoying. Or at least that’s what I understand of this.
~snip~ For example the SW guy who babbles about Mordremoth attacking the pale tree. He has one line and repeats it every 30 seconds. ~snip~
Dear heavenly Dwayna — did you time that? Is it really 30 seconds!? I know I have heard more than I need about talking cabbages, but 30 bloomin’ seconds is really, really frequent. Can you let me know if that’s actual timing — I’d appreciate it.
I’m not sure why you’re asking that. You only have to stand near the SW guy for a few minutes to observe the issue first hand, just as you must have stood near the cabbage char to hear his particular dialogue. As Lunacy Solaci pointed out, the time varies according that what triggers it, but the minimum time between repeats seems to be 30 seconds. It’s these minimums that need to be increased.
True.. so true… I just thought Trehearne would have been more strict about the composition of his attack force. Or.. maybe that was the plan all along. Weaken the force by allowing all the nobles in rather than the soldiers that could have taken their place.
While I would love a bunch of exalted guards and visitors in our gilded hollow, my real dream is to turn our guild hall into a new safe multi-layered Skritt city.
You’re gonna need a lot of Skritt house-keepers running around Guilded Hollow, polishing things and admonishing people not to touch the shinies.
Is it just me or is anyone else curious why there were nobles and musicians on the fleet that sailed out to Maguuma to attack Mordremoth? They seemed to have brought a lot of luxuries you wouldn’t expect to find in a battle fleet. Were they thinking it was going to be a picnic? Or maybe they just wanted to go into battle to the sound of Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries”….?
The waste of xp after masteries are maxed out is an issue that’s been discussed many times, and your suggestion has been one of the proposed solutions. It’s not one I agree with personally – I’d prefer the xp counted for something – but as an option for those that want it that way, I have no problem with it.
Sure, sounds fine to me. You already get all kinds of npcs (like frogs) appearing in your home instance if you get the HoT chests in there. And that’s a small instance that doesn’t need to be crowded with NPCs. Why not in a huge empty guild hall?
I love this idea. It has a real combat feel to it. When your ally is down, you naturally want to drag them away from danger. But of course, as you said, it has huge trolling potential.
I think a lot of that could be mitigated though, if the downed player was presented with a list of people who are trying to drag them. That is, when someone runs up to them and clicks F to drag or whatever, their name would appear to the downed player, who would then choose to accept the drag, if they trusted that person.
Personally, I wouldn’t want a barrier against drops. There might be a good reason to drag your ally over a cliff if you think your chances of surviving the fall are better than what’s attacking.
This also got me thinking… I’d like it if some creatures were also able to drag downed players. Imagine a big troll downing you, then trying to drag you into its cave. Do you attempt to heal, or do you blast the troll hoping it will let go? Or, imagine a devourer trying to drag you into lava. Possibilities…but admittedly a lot of potential for mishaps. Still, it’s interesting to think about.
