Dailies no longer geared towards casuals?

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

you’re not always going to do things you find appealing and fun.

Then why bother doing them at all?
I don’t know about the rest of you but I play games to have fun. If it’s not fun, there is no reason to play.
Playing a game that is not fun does not sound like any fun to me at all! ;-)

I’ll clue you in.
Some activities in the game are not fun.
Rewards however are fun. If I want fun rewards sometimes I need to do stuff that is not fun.
It’s as simple as that.

Let’s give you a practical example:

Do I love bringing rare items to pact provisioners each day to get my tokens? No. I hate pact provisioners. And the absurdly bothersome time gate.
Do I want legendary armor? absolutely yes – I consider that to be where the “fun” is at in this game.
So what does that mean? It means that if I want to have my fun I have to do the daily chore of bringing those guys their rares so they give me the time gated tokens I need for my armor.

Does that clear things up?

Not in the least. I don’t view “things” as fun at all. No interest at all in legendary weapons or armor. Doing things you do not want to do just to get a few flashy trinkets sounds way to much like real life, thank you very much!
I do not need gold, I have all the armor and weapon skins I want or will use. (I have been using the exact same armor skins on my 3 mains since day 1 because I like them).
I have maxed out inventory and banks, stocked full of every kind of material available and loads of armor chests that I have not even bothered to open as I have no need for them. I have no need for any additional items.
You have a goal, you want the pretty armor skin. That is what I want, goals to work for but other then more worthless skins or trinkets. Progression, levels (even if it does never pass 80), a simple set of doable dailies to finish without having to do something I do not like to do. You can talk till your blue in the face, but there is nothing you or anyone else can say that can convince me to use my gaming time to play something that is not fun, I will simply go play something else that IS fun.

So…. why are you still here, arguing, instead of playing something fun?

It’s a question that’s been raised before, and an interesting one, but with some significant ramifications that would need to be worked out. Gliding at night would become significantly more dangerous, for example, unless the Asura come up with some kind of spotlight we can install on our gliders.

Hey everyone. I didn’t make this for people to tell me “that cant be done” Coz I know alot of it cant

It’s not that they can’t be done. They probably can. It’s just priorities, cost-effectiveness, etc. Don’t ever be discouraged from suggesting things. Creativity is important. Ideas lead to other ideas.

- When salvaging rares it would be nice if instead of moving the cursor to accept it would be nice to be able to just press enter.
- When farming mines, herbs or trees it would be awesome if it would auto-equip the gathering tools itself, if its in ur bag.

These two are especially attractive to me, as these situations arise frequently.

Nah, even the experience doesn’t explain it. You gain XP by doing everything except bouncing on the mushroom.. and suddenly you know how to bounce on a mushroom? Or you gain xp by killing things and suddenly that gives you the mutant ability to breathe poison? I drove myself crazy thinking about it when HOT came out.

In any case.. having completed almost all the masteries as they are, I’m somewhat biased towards the system. There is a certain enjoyment in aquiring and using mastery points, just as there is with getting the mastery XP. It feels some kind of compulsive collection fetish in me. I don’t think I’ll be too bothered if they add more mastery points – but with the understanding that we’re all different, I hope any future points added are a little less ..adventurous.. and a little more enjoyable for you guys.

I only open cargos and I have 3 stacks of crowbars. I don’t see the problem.

I find your statement hard to believe on the face of it. Or rather, I think it’s incomplete. You have 3 stacks of crowbars. Okay, presumably you did a lot of events at some point to farm those. Now you’re opening cargos without doing events. From what I read on the wiki, cargos don’t give crowbars, so it’s not a self-sustaining process. So, you must be using up your stacks of crowbars and at some point, if you’re not doing events, you’re going to run out.

That’s my understanding of the situation. If there’s something missing there, some process or aspect that leads to generating more crowbars without doing events, please let me know. I want to understand this.

This thread makes me giggle. “I have the only valid opinion because I do things my way and my way is best, everyone else can kitten on a biscuit.”

The reason you are wrong, is that no one who is supporting the multi loot brought up any reasonable points . Not to mention very probably all of them are AB multilooters…

No one on the other side brought up any reasonably points, huh? Okay. No bias there. Happy face.

Let’s not change topics, I never said it’s an exploit just that it’s unfair…

Unfair to whom? You’re able to multi-loot as much as anybody. For it to be unfair, it would have to deprive someone of something. If it doesn’t and anet themselves are okay with it, where is the unfairness?

I haven’t tried this yet but the more you talk about it, the more I want to.

As Amurond mentioned and I mentioned too many times, it is unfair because you loot meta events that you didn’t participate in. -And you just prove my point by not reading the arguments and others points, so how could you bring up anything relevant to the topic? Gonna ignore your comments from now on if you don’t read mines either ‘happy face’

As you wish. When you said anyone who disagrees with you is irrational, that pretty much set the tone of the conversation.

I’ve read your posts. You’re just another player trying to control how others play. There’s a guy in another post trying to do the same thing by stopping other people from using mesmer portals on jps.

For both of you, there’s some aspect of the game you don’t like and even though anet is apparently fine with it and it’s not harming you in any way, you’re determined that other people shouldn’t be able to play as they want because that doesn’t agree with your personal philosophy. And you seem to like happy faces so here’s a few more.

Jumping Puzzle Dailies

Omg this thread. This is the thread I’ve been wanting to make for quite awhile now, but I always chickened out because I knew there would be a lot of people getting angry over it. So thank you, Wisdom, for having the courage I didn’t.

That said, I’ve thought about this topic quite a bit, and decided that removing mesmers’ ability to use portals in JPs isn’t the answer, even if it is just for the daily. The main reason is because I imagine this would take a bit of time to implement. I don’t know enough about programming to say for sure, but I imagine it would take time to make every single JP in the game a portal-free zone. I believe a much better solution would be to just remove JPs from the daily rotation completely.

So all this time you’ve wanted to control how other people spend their time but you lacked the courage to say so? That’s …both conceited and cowardly in one. Well, whatever floats your boat I guess. Not angry with you – just don’t admire your personal philosophy.

But that’s beside the point. Your ‘much better solution’ is no solution at all for the problem you and Wisdom have with the game. Your problem is that mesmer portals allow jps to be bypassed. Removing jps from the daily rotation won’t change that.

The best solution for your problem is to realise that you don’t have a problem. It doesn’t hurt you in any way if other people port. It doesn’t cheapen your personal experience. Use a port or don’t. It’s your choice. Just as other people have theirs.

I hate hard content, so i did not play any jumping puzzle in the past 3 years.

After HoT releasted,
1) the mastery system forces me to get the rest mastery point in tyria from those content i hated!!
2) the mastery system forces me to do many jumping and speed run in adventures

In the past, the game is optional, i can choose the content i like to play. I enjoy the cooperation in world boss fighting.
But I need to spend all the time in the hate content for the legendary journey. It is not fun anymore!

When you say you don’t like hard content, does that mean you don’t play in the jungle?

What did you do when you first started the game? Did everything annoy you because it was all new? Seriously. I do not understand your viewpoint. This is an idea which could reduce the grindiness of HoT masteries. If you don’t think they’re grindy, don’t post.

Wow. Two sentences in and already showing your bias. I like your honesty.

I don’t think the masteries are grindy – BUT I think your idea would make them so. I used my mesmer to do most of my masteries because he provided me with good mobility, stealth and a portal that provided insurance where I needed it.

If I had to complete the masteries your way (as I understand it) it would have been tedious, unenjoyable and very, very, very grindy.

EDIT: Added the clarification “(as I understand it)”. It’s possible I don’t understand your meaning, but as it reads I think you’re trying to provide a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. Do a few rounds of DS with food, crystals and other boosters. The XP flows in remarkably fast, even on the last tiers of the masteries.

A lot of jumping puzzles are very easy to miss unless you know there’s one in the area and have had some practice finding them. Even then there’s been more than once I wasn’t sure I’d found one until I was already part of the way through it.

But a very easy way to get info on that, or anything else you’re not sure about is to type /wiki [search text] into the chat bar to bring up the relevant wiki page.

For example /wiki Shaman’s Rookery will bring up the page for today’s puzzle, which will show you which map it’s in, where in the map it is, give you directions to it if necessary (today’s is easy to find once you’re in the right area but for some even the entrance is hidden) and both written instructions on how to complete it and a link to a Youtube video.

You also don’t need to know the exact name of something to search for it. For example /wiki jumping puzzle will bring up a list of all the puzzles.

EDIT: The website flaked out and lost my comment. Here it is again:

That’s good advice and well worth remining – but I can’t help wondering why they don’t just provide an icon beside a daily in your achievements to zoom in on the location of the daily in your map, as they do with scouts and personal story and that recent bandit event. They have the technology and it would be a good little QoL thing so we don’t have to keep looking up external sources.

Player Housing? anytime soon?

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Why is a house in an MMO fun? Do you get XP from vacuuming? Find random coins under the couch cushions? Gain materials from doing yard work?

I honestly don’t see the attraction.

It’s like a guild hall, on a small scale. Right now we have a “Home Instance” and it would be nice to be able to make it look more like Our home, as opposed to section of the map that we can put harvesting nodes into.

The idea of having a home instance is for the same reasons why a player wants various skins they can use, or dyes, or Mini’s ,. They want homes for the same reasons why they buy glider skins and Total Make over kits, or any of the other various hundreds of means to look someway or another.

By the logic you put out, since there is no EXP, Loot, or Coin gained from having a custom look to your character, so why not have every character look the same?

As it stands, I like the idea of player housing. Just maybe some way to make my Home Instance more Mine would be enough.

Yeah, mine is full of people I don’t know, standing around yakking and looking at my nodes in a way I find unsettling. Can I trust them with my nodes when I’m not there?

You’re comparing doing things that isn’t making gold to people making gold.

I don’t think that sentence means what you think it means.

EDIT: Look, let’s try a simple example. I take part in the AB meta. I loot the chests in the first room, but I don’t want to go any further and loot the other rooms. Other people do go further and loot the other rooms. They’ve made more out of the meta than I have. Should I ask anet to block off those rooms so other people can’t use them, or should i just go and do more looting? What do you think?

It’s unfair because it means that if you aren’t doing it you’re making less gold/hour than someone doing it.

I also don’t WvW or PvP, so I’m making less gold/hour than someone doing it. I haven’t done SW in a while, so I’m making less gold/hour than someone doing it. I’m not farming mats for hours a day, so I’m making less …etc.
The list goes on.. and on.. and this line of thinking is absurd. Should I be asking anet to nerf any part of the game I don’t take advantage of?

Also, there’s no competition about who makes the most gold per hour. No-one is depriving me of anything by doing more than I’m doing. I can’t believe you think this way. In your own mind, you’ve put yourself in a race against other people and demand that they be hampered because you can’t be bothered doing what it takes to win the race that you invented for yourself. It may be time to admit there is no spoon.

It means the items from the chest are going to drop in price, while the cost of everything else is going to up in price.
It ruins the economy. It’s bad for the game.

You seem to keep forgetting to put “in my opinion” on the end there. Apparently, anet are aware of this and even take part in it. As the makers of the game and having a huge vested interest in the stability of the economy, I’m leaning towards their view on it which seems to be that it’s okay.

At some point, you have to admit that the sky isn’t falling. No matter how much you want it to.

Suggestion: Hide Achievement

Posted by: Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

I think we can all agree that there are far too many achievements and collections for the current UI. Here are some ideas that people have suggested in various related threads:

  • Toggle to hide all completed achievements.
  • Toggle to hide the completed parts of active achievements (e.g. don’t show me the stuff I’ve already collected for Treasure Hunter; just the stuff I have yet to find). If few enough, allow us to display it as a text list that doesn’t require mouse-over to see details.
  • Toggle to hide all “can’t be completed” chieves (i.e. the suggestion in this thread).
  • Personal achievements: allow us to track things that aren’t achievements, such as unlocking the antique skin sets (e.g all citrine) or finding all pets or all dyes. (No extra AP, just a way to track it).
  • Mid- and Long-term goals: give us a way to track several things that can’t be completed ‘today’ or even ‘this week’ — the ‘watchlist’ is suitable for dailies and the occasional one-off; it’s not helpful for working on a legendary.

Agree on all of those, and love the personal achievements idea especially.

I don’t know if this is the place to add this suggestion, which has also been mentioned in places: Allow more achievements to be displayed in that right-hand panel on the screen. I personally wouldn’t mind seeing two dozen achievements listed there that I’m interested in.

I tried to pass two on a vine in VB and was killed 10 times in a row didn’t even drop one of them in the 10 tries, that to me is broken mechanics and i move on, its no longer fun after 10 frustrating tries so i logout, i did not go back since.

In addition to the good DD advice other posters have given, here’s my take on it:

Elementalist – use reflects to repel their arrows, use the dagger’s ride the lightning or that other teleport util to get close to them or just skip past them. If you’re a tempest, even better. Hit them with your overloads, lightning, fire, earth. Use your small or large earth elementals to tank them.

Mesmer – there’s a teleport util and two stealth utils, plus the torch’s stealth skill you can use to skip them or get close. Use illusions to distract them, sword #2 to hit them without taking damage, etc.

And in addition to that, there’s a spy kit you can get somewhere that gives any toon 3 seconds of invisibility, regardless of profession. Plus elemental powder and ogre whistles which give you minions regardless of profession.

There’s plenty of ways to handle the frogs, even if you’re outnumbered. With no offense intended, if you’re trying something ten times and your technique isn’t working it may be time to consider a different strategy and review what other tools you have at your disposal. Or just go a different way. Glide to a different spot. If you have stealth gliding, glide past them invisibly.

Empty Maps and Frustration

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

My counter thoughts:

  • The maps are horrible to solo. Never, ever, try to do any events in those maps without 2-4 commanders. If there is none, wait or leave.

Naw, they’re fine to solo. I run about by myself all the time, finishing events here and there and occasionally coming across other players doing the same. Some events will require cooperation but for the most part you’re able to do a great deal by yourself, more than you might think.

  • You need following masteries to do ANYTHING. I wish Anet would unlock these by default so people dont fall into even deeper despair for not being able to go anywhere: gliding 1 and 2, jumping mushrooms.

Indeed. People will tell you that you only need a few basic masteries, but I say get ‘em all. You’ll find the jungle becomes a piece of cake. They take time and effort, but it’s worth it. You gain a lot of abilities and they feel well earned.

  • I have not had much problems with hero challenges so far. The ones I got were either soloable or there was already people nearby. I saw even 1 comm doing all hero points one by one, walking slowly from one map to next.

Same. The jungle provides.

  • With gliding and mushroom jumping you can actually explore large parts of the maps on your own. Look around, jump off the cliffs, glide, fall, die, try again. Again, avoid the events without larger group, they take too long and give no real xp in return. Dont try to finish map completion when comms are doing large event chains.

Doing events solo or with a small group is fine. And you can do map completion as you participate in large event chains. Grab a poi or vista as you pass by.

  • The maps become more interesting and you will become stronger once you unlock new stuff. It just takes VERY LONG TIME. Be patient. Yep, at first, they suck bad. You cant do anything and cant go anywhere.

Agree. It feels so good as you progress your masteries and gain new abilities to go new places.

  • You will die A LOT. You will fall and die. Mobs spawn at your feet and kill you. Or you fall and die. You will be hit by invisible conditions out of nowehere, losing 5k HP per second. Did I mention falling? Lots of falling to death. All that is perfectly normal.

:) Well said.

Personally, I’d also like it if when I run out of a harvesting tool the game would automatically use another of the same quality, and I’d be quite happy if there was a mastery to earn that ability.

As posters above have pointed out, anet has the figures and the economist to gauge whether this is game breaking, and a huge vested interest in making sure it isn’t. Also I think in the future some of the more difficult MP tasks should reward more than one mastery point. For example, I spent a total of about 6 hours doing that kitten lost golden badge mega jump puzzle in silver wastes for one darn mastery point. At the same time, I took 5 minutes and got an equal mastery point for killing the Karka Queen.

Absolutely this. The disparity between the tasks that reward mastery points is staggering. Story achievements are another area that requires a tremendous amount of work for a single point, including sitting through the same campy story dialogue again ..and again ..and again.

Hmm, so far I cannot use crowbars as quickly as I gain them unless I actively avoid playing the content.

This is where I’d be really interested to hear what the patterns of behavior are for those with copious amounts of crow bars. Do you open every crate you come across? Do you skip some? How many events do you partake in in a day, and how many crates do you open? But these are questions that can’t be answered. Nobody’s going to be tracking those kinds of stats.

It’ll take more than one cycle before that starts happening. I started with about 30 crowbars and never ran out the entire time I was in the map. By the time it was day again, I had nearly the same amount of crowbars as I had began with.

Okay, but how many crates do you open as you go along? That’s what I’m curious about. How many crowbars do you typically get from an event? I get between 1 and 3 and there are plenty of crates lying around as you run from event to event. It has me wondering if maybe the amount of crowbars you get depends in some way on how much effort/damage you put into an event?

For LS3 Please add more mastery point options

It’s inevitable that more mastery points will have to be added if more masteries are added (and I hope they are). They will undoubtably be scattered across adventures, achievements and open world commune points as they are now. So if you’re only going for a few masteries, I expect you’ll be able to get points from content you like and not, say, adventures. But if you expect to get all masteries (I’ll be working towards that) then you’ll probably have to do all kinds of content.

EDIT: At least, I hope the masteries points that come with LS3 aren’t all locked behind story achievements. Those are by far the most work for the smallest reward.

I know I should be cashing in on this while it’s available.. but I’m just too lazy to jump from instance to instance farming the same chests. And I see plenty of people doing other things. It doesn’t seem to be killing anything. Why not stop fighting it and just go farm those AB chests. You know you want to.

Let’s not forget the new armour-demonstrating vigil soldiers around merchants in HOT, added in a recent update. Their talk caption icon looks identical to that of the merchants they stand near, and they sure like to talk about their fancy armour. I get it. They’re proud. But focus, people! It’s a war zone, not prom.

Seriously though, we need fewer npcs around merchants, not more.

Human- something.
Why?
Most people prefer to follow the most “safe” or “known” trends instead of trying something new, because the feel shame and fear of not being “normal”. Or conversely, they hate anything that in their eyes is not “normal” (Thus justifying the fear and shame the other feel).

TLDR: Human are the most common because close-mindedness.

Or maybe plenty of other reasons, like being able to relate to the toon as others have already said. Or because larger toons can be hard to see around and awkward in jps or narrow spaces. Or.. other reasons. Assuming it’s just because of close-mindedness.. is a little close minded imho.

Speaking only on the discovery pane in crafting, it’s a pain that it’s such a narrow ..uh.. pane. Especially with cooking, there are so many ingredients they scroll off the bottom of the pane. Whereas the right-hand pane where the four ingredients are displayed is a huge waste of space.

What KestrelGirl said. Hoelbrak, along with pretty much all of the other capitol cities (LA being the obvious exception with some other exceptions, as well), are time-locked. That’s why you’ll see Eir in her homestead instance.

That raises an interesting thought. I used to think the Asura gates and waypoints merely transported in space, but given the nature of the space-time continuum it makes sense they’re also transporting you in time, perhaps to different periods in each zone.

Cue twilight zone intro….

Unless you’re actively going out of your way to use crowbars as you get them, you’re not going to run out.

I use crowbars on every airship crate i come across… so not actively out of my way but very much along my way.. and they run out.

I looked into this as I was playing the other day. I thought I’d found the solution when I shut down Dialog Volume, but the problem is, when you do that you lose not just the NPC chatter but essential gameplay info that you want to / need to have. To continue to get that info one could rely on text dialog boxes, but I found that occasionally I was facing the wrong direction, and with audible dialog off, I missed a few instructions, directions, or tips I needed. So it was back to running like a centaur and healing as one and Koda being judge and jury and talking cabbages until… well… the dolyaks come home.

I don’t imagine it’s possible to go too fine-grained on the options. If you look at the choices now, there are quite a few. And certainly there are other things that would be a higher priority for change, if change was even contemplated. But it’s good to have feedback on this subject, and I’ll see if I can learn anything about it.

Hi Gaile, any news on this? It’s starting to look like one of those threads which fades into the mists for want of any news and never gets any closure.

Agreed. A different color would be great. I’m always mousing over them to check which is which. Guess we just wait and see if it ever changes.

I was thinking of making Destinies Edge, and I’m working on Logan Runaway. Thing is, is it even possible to make your character look like Logan, Rytlock, etc.?

Logan is easy, all anyone ever sees is the back of his head as he is running away.

Haha! 25 stacks of burn right there. xD

since the spring patch (with DS as selectable option in LFG tool) i don’t get into an active instance anymore. i only see squads (x/10 or higher) advertise in LFG and when i join i end up in another instance of DS than the majority of the squad.
even 1 minute after restart i couldn’t get into a playable (populated enough) instance through LFG tool yet (tried it 5 or 6 times and gave up on it afterwards).

i am on the EU servers and before the patch i usually had no problem to get into a populated instance of DS from LFG group invites (x/5).

This is probably a stupid question but I have to ask: after restart when you find yourself in a different map from the majority of the squad, do you use the ‘Join in DS’ option to hop over to their map?
