Agony, and it can only be cleansed by specific gears.
Gear check indeed.
Its silly. Position yourself as a “no gear grind” game. A large amount of people who WANT one quit, leaving a large concentration of people who don’t.
Then add a gear grind. A few (but very few, as they already moved on) people come back. What happen to the rest?
This, 10 x this.
Edited.
Post deem meaningless since its now merged.

Unused Infusion slot which ONLY gives you a defensive stat which is ONLY useful against the fear condition which ONLY appears in the high-end levels of the enw dungeon
WRONG and L2R
Quote from official page: “There are multiple types of Infusions and Infusion slots. In November, we’ll introduce Offensive, Defensive, and Omni Infusions of Fine rarity from new Mystic Forge recipes. Infusion upgrade types must be paired with their like slot, with the exception of the rare and versatile Omni Infusions which can be slotted into any type of Infusion slot.”
And no its not “fear” condition, its Agony. Quote from official page: “Ascended gear has Infusion slots, and rarer versions of the items also come with additional Agony Resistance built into them.”
Agony – “This extremely dangerous condition ticks percentages of player health away and can’t be cleansed by normal means. Players who wish to delve deep into the Fractals will find that Agony makes progress increasingly difficult, until they reach the point where some defense against this condition is a must. The only way to mitigate Agony damage is by building up resistance through Infusions”
Good luck playing the new contents with your current exotics.
Since mod is reading this, I would like to kindly letting you know that I am disgusted by the new gear grind direction.
I hope Linsey Murdock is reading this and if not someone should print this out and put this on her desk.
Legendary items will be on par with ascended items, power wise. And as for Agony cleansing ability, that’s another story.
- A roll back on one of the patches to fix the culling issue. I miss the times where we can actually SEE our enemies.
Funny how this new content reminds me of the jay wilson moments….
No I am not excited at all with the new gear grind.
Give us the skin or bump up our already grinded exotic gears.
So no, I’m not going to whine about Anet adding more gear progression – unless I need those new gear to complete those new dungeons, and I suggest you don’t until we’ve figure out just how difficult those new dungeons are without the new tier of gears.
TL;DR But I suggest op to read about the new monster condition: Agony.
Spoiler: Yes you DO need those new gears to complete the new dungeons.
If they have stat bonuses then Anet has made the gear train many do not want. Also if they want to give a wall that surpasses the legendary wall it’s going to be a hell of a long time before 95% of the population attain it.
I’m ok with a couple of power/precision difference shown in the pic, with an upgrade that is dungeon specific in use.
Its not dungeon specific in use, it is, and I quote: “Eventually, you’ll be able to kit yourself out with a full set of Ascended gear and high end Infusions to help give you the edge in end game content.”
And for agony: “Ascended gear has Infusion slots, and rarer versions of the items also come with additional Agony Resistance built into them.” Which means the top ascended gears will have a lot more stats with infusion plus agony resistance.
I voted, I hate their new “item progression initiative”.
Nope, I’m saying that the orb isnt the issue, they need to focus on the real issues at hand which is hacks and bots.
With the orbs gone, cheaters (not hackers, since they didn’t hack anything themselves) will be much harder to catch now since their objective is spread out the whole of the map to get more points, specially before the timer ends for the score calculation. Things like fly-hack + invincibility hack + speed hack will ensure a single person taking over a keep/tower within minutes and we are going to see a lot more of that.
With the orb in place, at least we have some way to log it’s status and if the log shows something out of the norm (e.g went across the map within seconds, in an unusual altitude), whoever was holding the orb must be in a questionable position which gives a good reason for investigation, without the orb, they will be a lot harder to catch.
I believe removing the orb won’t solve what they wanted it to solve, other than making clean fights (which is on the decline) a more leveled ground, which wasn’t much of a problem to begin with because servers where always able to fight their orb back from the orb holders in the first place.

The fact that Anet actually responded to this is quite worrying.
This is nothing but a l2p issue as this is a game with depth and actually requires skills to play, if all you wanted is to bash a few buttons and expect to win then just go with some big zergs in wvw and enjoy.
I run a thief with 16k hp and 1.6k toughness, and I can honestly say I have lost count how many times I got insta-gibed by all classes (except rangers if I remember correctly), and when it comes to thieves its much easier to counter (DONT stand still) unless its the rendering issue but thats another story.
Well I rolled a ele last night and guess what, I’ll see all you QQers on the ele forum soon.

If your style is to kite then you will have to find ways to stay in the fight for a longer period of time in comparison to burst glass cannon builds which fights up close.
You may want to look into conditional skills/traits instead of just DPS from unload, bleed from pistol main hand auto-attack, poison from steal, caltrops with dodge, chill, cripple, immobilize and poison from skills. Throw as many conditions as you can on your enemy, and time them well, kite and unload in occasion then watch them drop, that would be my advice.
@Cal
No offence neither, but don’t tell me your attacks still hits the enemy while they con remove and dodge away, the last time I checked dodging still evades attacks, maybe you use know something we don’t know.
Meanwhile, have fun killing noobs in low population servers.
Glad to see all the positive posts in thief forum, sadly most of those tears of joy came from non-thieves or people who claim to play a thief.
A nerf is a nerf is a nerf, no matter how you spin it, in reality you can really only land 3 attacks of the 5 +15% hits, unless its a pve monster who keeps running at you or a pvp potato who just stands still, in which case they will come back for more QQ trolling fun just like before.
I don’t and never played a BS thief, at least this nerf saves me the time in the future to test and gear a back stab thief, which is good news to me

Remember only certain devs and mods read certain part of the forum. My take is this forum mod does NOT play a thief.
Hi all,
I have been playing WvW for over a month, and I have always played with the same character, in last night’s WvW something very strange happened.
I’m a lvl 80 thief with a few pieces of exotic gears stacks with toughness and I have 15.8k hp. Last night there was a zerg against our tower and I was hiding behind the tower waiting for my chance to get back into the tower, then I was attacked and killed by 2 people from the opposing team, fair game to them that I had my back against the wall and looking into the other direction.
But here is the strange part, I was just standing there looking out until suddenly my health glob went down 90% and the next thing I know I was in down state, and of course I died shortly after. When I look into my combat log, the highest damage I took was just over 1k, and the others before that was a list of 400-500 damage from double attacks ( or some skill that named similar I cant remember).
Now I wont say I have the best computer or connection around but I have no trouble surviving and maintaining my HP even in a 50+ group fight, but to take out 13k-14k of my hp in less than a second by just 2 player with attack damages no higher than 500 just seems very strange to me, and it happened a couple of times last night while fighting the same enemy team where it never happened to me before.
Has anyone else experienced this before?
"
Got to agree, DB is the paramount of lack of skill, put down caltrops, spam DB, weaponswitch to your other D/D for 3 free ini.
I am not saying its Overpowered or that its not easy to deal with, but the concept of the specc, spamming one button more or less that gives you evade/dogde at the same time – Sry but if you think that its any indication of skill then your way off.
Backstab got timing and positioning, and leaves you exposed, same thing with PW – Sword/dagger (Daze) requires you to time you daze for optimum effect, Poison share etc. all of them actually requir something of the player. DB, run in caltrops spam DB in a grp of ppl."
Do you know what is the most OP skill in this game, a skill that requires less player skill than spamming an attack button (at least you have to target your attack)?
And the answer is Dodge! Every single one of those supposed “op” thief skills can be easily countered with dodge:
Backstab? Dodge away, by the time the thief catches up he will be out of stealth, and most often than not his backstab wont crit due to not in stealth.
PW? Dodge away and range the sad thief that is now standing still.
DB? Dodge away and watch the silly thief dancing around like an idiot hitting nothing but air.
Problem isn’t the free transfer, the problem is that there isn’t a time restriction on it. Put in a 2 weeks limit to transfer would solve a lot of issues. And as for new players, give them a week or two of free transfer before the 2 week limitation kicks in would be fair.
Better idea, make dungeons Hard Core Mode (bold since it looks trendy in this thread) so if you die you are really dead.
I use P/P in PVE while in party to DPS single targets, and I only use 3,1 and the occasional 4/5. 2 were never touched.
Everyone knows every class has only ONE skill that removes condition.
Lets just remove the thief and call it a day please.
Edit that was suppose to be “asterisk” sad kitten “asterisk”, not a bold bad word… and where is the edit option when you needed it.
Well that means blocking is out as a solution as well… sad kitten
May I suggest a better friends list/follower system where if someone wants to follow you they needs your permission to do so?
I have a stalker on my follower list that I have no idea when he followed me, because he is a friend of a friend I do not want to be rude and block him, right now the only other option is to go invisible, but going invisible I’m taken off on all my guilds and I can’t guild chat to my other friends.
Please consider a better follower/ ignore system, thanks.
“In my younger days I played a lot of Ragnarok (in my opinion standard of good and meaningful guild vs guild action).”
Here’s your problem right there, RO’s woe was god awful, its about zeny sink for pots and scripts for auto pots and if you have a GTB card you are GOD.
And the 2 hours woe all boils down to the last 10 mins where they will zerg your castle and laugh in you face for looking after it for them.
With all the stealth QQs that’s going on you can rest asure this issues will be fixed with a nerf.
Let me sum up the complains so far.
Thieves are annoying because they run AWAY.
You know what’s more annoying? Logging out before dying, and every class can do it.
This is not about server not having enough bandwidth, it’s an ingame glitch, I’m not sure if anyone has posted their findings instead of QQing but here goes.
I had this glitch happened to me again last night, I play a thief, and when it occurs, all players friends or foe and NPCs were invisible, sieges and pets are ok, but when ever I go stealth, my char remains visibile on screen for the whole duration, no matter which skill I stealth with.
Hope this helps.
I second this, also op maybe you want to post this in the suggestions forum, since different devs only reads certain parts of the forum.
Simply put, they need to move AWAY from the traditional way of nerfing things and do things differently by buffing things.
I got guild wars 2 because I read that it does things differently from traditional mmos, but it’s saddening to see all those nerfs with every patch which is exactly what other mmos do before their player base turns south.
It’s this topic again, while you guys are at it, I would also like a counter for 1200 ranged weapon while I stand still and swing my swords, or better yet, give me a counter for a 30 man Zerg in WvW so I can face roll them solo and be totally 1337!!11!
The exact same thing happened with the HS nerf, auto-attacking was yielding more damage than HS. And of course I got trolled to pieces back when I tried to voice it.
@Coolmoos – I agree, but with the current trend of nerfs and players generally going for max dps/survive builds and those builds are gotten/getting the bat it will become boring as the end result anyways.
Like I said, instead of nerfing useful skills, buff useless skills so that there is more build diversity: killing people in different ways rather than just jump in and wrack 2 win.
If all the complains are about high damage and high damage only without emotional hate towards thieves, there is a much simpler solution: put in a global max damage cap.
We will always have players who would go for a dps glass cannon build, and they will do it via traits or gears, nerfing the class and its traits wont solve the problem because those players will just play another class who can out put the most dps.
Nerfing isnt a solution, buffing useless skills is, and it promotes build diversity also.
All I can say is, with every nerf, this “kill or be killed” class is slowly but surely moving to “poke or be killed” class.
They may as well offer thieves some clown costumes because that is what’s left for thieves to do.
I was selling an item on the tp for 18s95c, and I set it to be 95c cos I saw that the stated listing fee was 95c. Now however my item was sold and I only got 17s5c from it (was only selling one item). Looks like I got charged listing fee twice? Or is that how it’s supposed to work?
Hi there, there’s a bug along that personal story chains of events, where I have to examine a statue and fight a boss, after killing the boss I have to pick up its weapon and place it at a specific point.
After I killed the 2nd boss, as I was heading towards the point, I got mobbed by 3 enemies, so I killed them with the event weapon, but the event weapon disappeared after they were killed and I have no way to proceed forward.
Please fix.
“The odds of finding a useful random drop is almost nill. I’m lucky to find a drop that’s even my lvl, much less has the stats I want. I find more heavy armor and swords on my Necro a nd I find more light armor on my Guardian. I think it’s almost a sick joke Anet is playing. Instead of writing code to steer class relevant drops in your favor they actually stack the odds against you. NOT cool.”
Are you sure you are on the right forum? D3 is that way —→
Im level 80 and all the gears I have ever used are either from drops or karma vendors. The heavy and light armors that I do not use gets vendored or put onto the trading post.
I must say the heavy/medium/light armor ratio are quite even, and dropped weapons have better stats than vendor ones.
The WvW map is designed the way it is due to strategic planning for defending and attacking teams, those keeps, towers and supply camps are related to each other, in terms of attacking and defending, you need to study them more closely to work out a plan for your team in dealing with them.
As for the siege weapon in the invulnerable area, pro-tip, the players are invulnerable, but the siege weapons can be damaged.
TL;DR L2P
idk if skilled but I do play a bit and the vid might be what you’re looking for
Hmm… Is that dancing dagger without using dancing dagger?? Or is that a racial skill?
My HS misses 90% when used as a first hit gap closer.
Thief Guild – More tactical, takes the heat off you (sometimes not), you can cast it, stand back and shoot away.
Dagger storm – you go in to the middle of a mob and they either die or reduced to very low health, but you still gets hit while spinning around.

I have said it before and I will say it again, my problem with the nerf is that HS is doing less damage then my auto attack crit, even when the enemy is low in hp, my HS is doing VERY slightly higher damage than my normal attack, since it has a jumping animation to do I can finish the enemy faster by NOT using the “finisher” move. And hence the nerf basically killed the skill. I’d be a lot happer if they nerf the damage when the target hp is high and kept the low hp damage as it was so people won’t spam them in spvp/WvW, where all the rages were about.
HS isn’t even viable now as a finisher since it deals less damage than my auto attack crits.
All I have to say about the nerf is that Anet got trolled and paid with their reputation. I know I will think twice from now on to recommend this game to my friends.

Well, for a character that do not have heavy defence we are designed to deal damages. And since this is not a magic caster type then we can only deal physical damage. At the moment, it’s damage is lower than my normal auto attack crits, so now I get to kill things by hitting the button once and watch them die, slowly, and cast stealth and run away when it turns nasty since this “finisher” move doesn’t even deal enough damage to “finish” anything, and that is on normal monster.

…now that you have gone and nerfed the thief’s heart seeker skill that was unjustifiable. Now my normally attacks does more damage in crits than a skill that costs me initiative to use, what is the point in that?
I always consider thiefs are like assassins in other mmos and when I first got my hand onto this game a thief is what I made, and it plays and feels like what an assassin should do – deadly in 1v1 but weak in def and in mob situations. And I have to play my thief by know it’s strength and weaknesses and I always strategise my moves when I engage in battle, in PVE and WvW. And I died lots to mobs in PVE but it’s fine, cause I know my thief is weak against mobs (until I unlock the dancing dagger skill but it has a hefty CD).
I do not like what you did with the HS nerf, expecially when the game is only weeks old and people don’t even know much about their own class to counter others let alone knowing what other classes’ weakness and strengths, and you would go and do changes to the fundamental workings of a class.
I was looking forward to play different races and different professions, with your recent action it does not fill me with much confidence in doing so, I may just pick up a bow, go stand on a castle wall, shoot some arrow to some knees and call it a day.
P.s this is my first Anet game and this is my first negative feeling I got since I started playing, otherwise my experience with Anet and GW2 was very positive.
P.p.s I don’t do Spvp but I do know that my thief dies easily in WvW so no, heart seeker is not and not even close to broken, just learn to play your class.
