My biggest grievance with the update: this does nothing for condition builds. Condition necros (the original core intention of the class) are effectively dead. And while the reaper traitline is beyond doubt better designed and offers more synergy than any of the currently existing necro traitlines, it must still be said that most of the concerns of the necro community have unfortunately not been addressed. The exact same criticism that people expressed for the usual power necro is still applicable in the case of the reaper (and more, because you are completely locked out of long range DPS). Whether the various synergies with vulnerability and especially chill will make up for this remains to be seen. The fact that chillmancers have not been viable so far due to the prevalent condi cleanses (of which more will be added in HOT) does not make one particularly optimistic.

Actually if you take Curses line + Dhummfire + Reaper you will be even better than now.

Dhummfire + reaper gives you AOE burn at 2x the speed it currently is, meaning huge burning damage. You also get damaging chill (or even more burn with the 15% speed increase, have to wait for the numbers to decide which is better), and chill on fear, all with the 100% duration increase of lingering curses, or terror damage. You do lose out on torment, but you gain more chill and a weakness shout.

In PvE at least a weakness/chill support condition build may become a thing if the encounters are harder.

I was actually pretty pleased with the reveal. I think the Reaper will synergize well with both power and condition necros. A Reaper condition spec is what I will hopefully be running, with sinister gear.

A few concerns I still have:

1. No power GM traits in Curses. I’d still like to see terror moved and another GM take its place.
2. Still no projectile reflect
3. Still no blast finishers
4. Still low mobility
5. No way for Reapers to defeat thieves. One thief could literally kill 5 reapers without getting hit. No stab + no effect of chill on thieves + slow attacks = thief wet dream.
6. Loss of access to torment if we take reaper… torment… the condition invented JUST for necros in the first place…

Positives:
1. Blood Magic with vamp aura sounds promising. It needs to be enough to compete with fire+ blast though or it will just be ignored
2. Stab on DS 3 is very nice
3. Chill play is interesting, I think it will work well.

I’m no more convinced than when I typed it out the first time, but we technically got some stab so I edited the post.

3s of stab isn’t even enough to cast our elite nevermind actually get an attack off.

A thief can literally stand on top of us and never get hit. 1 thief could kill 5 reapers without ever taking damage.

New Speculation on Elite Specs = Dual Class

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

This explains the reveal order and the subclasses:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/

The reveal order is the order of the classes, and the subclass is one of the classes in the row below the reveal order.

As you can see, mesmer got necro, guard got ranger, necro got warrior.

That means ranger gets ele, and if I had to guess i’d say that:

ele gets thief, warrior gets engineer, thief gets mesmer and engineer gets guardian.

Of course it could just be really weird luck and mean nothing, but 3 for 3 is at least worth noting.

Update on 500 crafting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ZudetGambeous.9573

Jewelcrafting and Cooking still haven’t been updated to 500 crafting yet. It has been over 2 years since we were told that ALL professions would be getting 500 crafting. Additionally it has been almost 2 years since the ingredients for 500 jewelcrafting were added to the collection tab. Yet we have heard absolutely nothing about these in the last 2 years.

Would it be possible to get an update on the status of these? Are you still planning to update these as promised? Will be be in a feature patch? Will it come with HoT? Have these plans been abandoned? Should we just drop jewelcrafting and pick a different profession?

Any update at all would be appreciated, thank you.

Why would they stop releasing specs? That would make no sense at all. The hype is finally building again and people are excited. It would be marketing suicide to stop releasing specs at this point…

It would be more marketing suicide to release all of them now and then don’t have a release until a couple of months after the last one was revealed.
It does after all seem to be the thing that interests most people.

It seems smarter to have these three now, then a week or two with other stuff (Guild Halls, Revenant, Challenging Group content) and the go with either the rest or three more with a break for lore info and then finish up with the last three soon before release.

I suppose so, I guess I just figured the release would be in August. 6 more weeks of classes already brings us to July, then guild halls, challenging group content, the new challenges, and the promised legendary blog post would bring us to August. Then open beta then release.

I suppose a week or two break wouldn’t be terrible, but the classes that got left out are going to be angry.

if we're not getting dungeons?

ZudetGambeous.9573

Q. When will we get more dungeon and fractals, any kind of dungeon related changes? Another question is hard mode for dungeons or the setting of difficulty?

A.

  • Hard Mode is something they’re staying away from at that point.
  • Looked at ideas to improve longevity of dungeons.
  • TA was a serious amount of work, another rework like that is not something they want to commit to.
  • Fractals are a more flexible system that will hopefully allow them to add smaller chunks of content without the amount of work it takes to redo a dungeon.
  • Want to make smaller changes to dungeons rather than larger ones.

(22/08/2014)

Where in there does it say they’re never going to add more dungeons?

There is also the fact that they quite publically fired their entire dungeon team, which is why most people assume they won’t ever introduce new dungeons. There was a very involved and active dungeon team that brought us Molten Facility and Aetherblade (Not the TA one) Dungeons. They butted heads pretty badly with the higher ups and they ended up all getting let go.

Reaper and PvE

in Necromancer

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

I think without a defiance bar this specialization will never be played. In PvE we still offer no support, and unless this new spec does more damage than a warrior/ele/thief there will be no place for us in the PvE meta.

PvP things look even worse. Slow attacks with no mobility is a death sentence. A long cast can be interrupted, blocked, dodged, CC’d, blinded, or just walked away from. With no mobility and no defiance bar, a Reaper will essentially be an innaidmant object that you get to kill over and over for extra points. If we do get a defiance bar, and it works against blinds then the reaper may have a place in PvP if they have enough access to chill and can close the gap.

My biggest hope is that there is support hidden somewhere, the spec is very very high damage, and we can trait a defiance bar.

Issues with current Necros:

1. No group support
2. slow casting
3. no mobility
4. no power based AOE
5. low DPS

Issues Solve by specialization:
1. AOE GS
2. DPS???

Well it is a start I guess… I’d rather have the support and mobility instead though…

Say what now?!
Low dps?! with or without weapons?
Slow casting?! Did you consider other weapons beside staff? or you want a spam-style game, possibly with skills like Ranger’s LB skill 2 without any cd?
No group support?! ofc, if you don’t wanna offer any. Otherwise, wells that clear condi, aoe heals, and the cc’s of the necro are, if I dare say so, desireable group support. You can’t give portals and Icy Bows to all classes, hm?!
No mobility… Sure! Must give them some portals?! some shadowsteps maybe? (not that it’s a properly functioning mechanic anyway) Or precisely what?!
You have speed signet, you have a tp, you have swiftness skills, you have multiple hp pools, summons, fast attacks, strong dps, strong conditions, decent group support. I don’t know what you’re smoking, but I really want some of that stuff!

Sarcasm? trolling? never actually played a necro?

I’m assuming it is one of those, I can’t imagine you are serious. If by some bizarre twist you actually believe the things you typed I would suggest browsing around these forums for a more detailed analysis of the points I mentioned. A few starting points: we have a max number of target of 2, compared to 5 for every other class, power necros only do 75-80% the dps of top tier classes, and condition necros only do 30-40% the dps of top tier classes (in PvE).

My biggest concern is that Reaper will essentially be free points in PvP. Large slow attacks are easily dodged, blocked, blinded, CC’d, or interrupted in PvP. The only hope is that we get the defiance bar and that it also works on blinds. I thought I heard something about defiance and blinds, does anyone know the details or am I just imagining it?

Well this is the first specialization that suffers a huge penalty for not taking the new weapon along with it. Power Necro’s can’t AOE well without the new GS so I guess we will see a very large amount of GS necros now. Not necessarily a bad thing, just interesting that this is the first specialization that can’t take full advantage without the weapon.

Why are you punished for not taking the GS? They added tools to make melee viable, but you are not forced to pick the GS.

Also they don’t get any new F skill, just different particle effects for their existing F skill… which is odd…

They have a completely new transformation with new skills that vary from the original Shroud skills, while still retaining a similar function (for trait compatibility), just like how Virtues were changed.

Also the “masters of conditions” have a specialization that doesn’t work at all with condition users, yet it requires chill to function…

Minor trait: All fears you inflict apply chill

1. They said the specialization scales in power as the number of foes you hit increases. None of necros current power weapons hit more than 2 targets. It is one of the biggest problems with necros right now. You will not be able to use the specialization well without being able to hit 5 targets, thus the need for the GS.

2.Guardian virtues just got straight up better. This is a wait and see for necro, can’t really say much more yet.

3. This minor trait has potential. though since terror is directly competing with lingering curses it doesn’t matter since there are no more terror builds until it is fixed.

I have seen plenty of people on reddit complain about the lack of support.

I think people need to step out of the box and see that boons is not the only way to support allies.
Chill is a great way to support your group, since it makes the enemy much easier to deal with.

maybe in engaging varied encounters that require strategy… unfortunately there aren’t any of those in GW2 right now. Hopefully they introduce some in HoT. There is no need to chill an enemy when you have 100% block and vigor uptime and 25 stacks of might.

Necro’s offer awesome support in the form of high weakness and chill uptime… unfortunately the game does not need that kind of support in its current iteration. It seems easier to give one class useful support instead of changing the way the entire game works, thus the pleas for “standard” group support.

This seems odd to me… you want to maximize chill usage, yet this is clearly a power based build. I’ll probably pass on this, but maybe some of the shouts are useful to condition users. I’ll reserve final judgement until I see the live stream. Not even a mention of the elite skill, wonder what it does…

A little disappointed that they didn’t do more with the DS, they made it sound like they are just replacing the effects and ranges of the skills, but again I guess we will have to see what the other skills are.

I wonder if this build would be good with sinister gear…

The expansion certainly increased hype. I just hope they release before Q2 is over or I suspect the numbers will be in free fall. There hasn’t been a content update in months and not even a release date for the expansion yet. It seems Anet put everyone on the expansion and forgot the game is still live.

Though once the expansion launches I suspect it will be a big boost to GW2.

Poor Wildstar. That game had a ton of potential, but it was just lacking something. I can’t even put my finger on it, but it is the first MMO i’ve ever played that I didn’t even make it to max level. Awesome combat though.

Expansions move the game forward, if you don’t buy it you should honestly just stop playing, there won’t be anything left for you. This is the case for every MMO in history and this one won’t be any different.

I seriously don’t know what you’re talking about. Sure, you won’t have access to new content or the elite specializations or the revenant but other than that you’re fine if you’re not buying HoT.

You still get the new trait system, you get the new borderlands map, you get the new pvp map, you get any other future QoL update, balance update and feature update. In addition, you should still be competitive in dungeons/fractals, wvw and pvp. Because there is no vertical progression (i.e. new gear levels and new character levels) GW2 is different from other MMOs.

Do you really think the best rewards are going to be found in the same 3 year old dungeons? Fractals will likely stay relevant, I will admit that, but the best rewards, the best content and the majority of players will be in the new zones. It won’t be that you can’t play the old content, it is that 99% of the players won’t be there anymore.

Originally it was meant to be closer to the GW1 progression idea. So yeah, i also would rather stick to how it was meant to be before ascended got released.

“people” being the 10-20k active players in GW1.

This game is trying to appease 1-2 million active players.

You are correct it was originally supposed to be like GW1… then the game started hemorrhaging players faster than 25 stacks of bleeding due to lack of end game goals. They stitched that problem up with ascended gear and the population stabilized.

What will Week 3 bring us? It seems likely to me that we will get a medium armor class since we have a light and a heavy so far.

It was noted that engineer was the furthest from complete so they are unlikely. I’m guessing we will get Druid this week since we already know what it is called.

Mesmer got necro
Guard got Ranger
Necro is almost certainly getting warrior

That leaves: mesmer, guard, thief, or engineer

I don’t think we’ll get engineer, the most likely imo would be guard or mesmers.

If we get mesmer we will probably get mantras, which would point to a bursty kind of build. If we get guard then probably meditations which implies sustain and mobility.

Personally i’m hoping for a fast paced mobility build to replace my d/f build. I just find staff so boring, but it seems like the only viable build so far.

What would nerfing precision accomplish exactly? I can see it would slow down the content, make it more tedious, and kittenins gear out of the meta… but what are the positive effects? You’ll need zerker gear more than ever since damage will be lower everywhere. It certainly doesn’t make the other gear sets stronger or more desirable.

All I can see this accomplishing is reducing the number of viable builds and making the game less fun. What do people asking for this specifically think it will accomplish and why? I keep hearing people throw out “build diversity” but I fail to see how reducing our damage does anything except remove assassins from the meta. It certainly won’t magically make defensive builds more viable because there is still plenty of boon spam to keep my active defenses up 100% of the time.

I think the solution should be the opposite. Boons are much too spammy right now. I can’t even tell you how many times i’ve stripepd off a whole line of boons from an enemy just to have them instantly reapply them.

What we need is longer boons with MUCH longer CD’s. If you can spam apply boons for 2s every 6s then just get rid of boon strips and boon counterplay because it is worthless. Applying a boon should give you a significant advantage for a short time, and stripping it from an opponent should put them at a disadvantage for an equal amount of time.

No this is wrong as well, all builds shouldn’t have to run boon removal to counter something. The actual counterplay to this for the majority of builds would be waiting till their boons run out and ganking them when it did. Boon application needs to be long enough to have an impact and be removable, short enough to not make a class unkillable or op for 30 seconds, and frequent enough to give you adequate survival over the course of a long fight. Long duration long cooldown is boring, and skilless and would turn the game into a waiting game.

The OP discussed permanent boons being bad. To some extent I agree, I don’t want to see groups running around with perma protection, perma fury, perma regen, and perma might. Having said that, some classes need a lot of boons to be even remotely tanky (ele, mes, thief(vigor)), so those classes need that. I don’t think Anet has changed enough stuff to suddenly see perma-protection in groups. The only thing that needs toning down is the stupid high aoe vigor uptime warriors are giving by simply running warhorn.

But that’s exactly the problem the current meta you never “run out of boons” because by the time one set ends the next set is off-CD. That’s why boons needs longer duration and even logner CD’s.

There was no way people were going to ever be happy with Guard spec. Guard is by far the most powerful and versatile profession in the game. Healing and boons out the wazoo, endless projectile reflects, endless blocks, best AOE tagging dmg in the game, best support in the game. Basically everything a group wants rolled into one. When was the last time you said: “oh crap another guard, we are screwed”….

It seemed fairly obvious to me that guard would get a “meh” specialization otherwise everyone would be forced to roll guard in HoT.

The main reason is that the specialization trait line will be almost certainly focused on the things it specializes in. Fro guard that means it will be a whole bunch of trap and LB traits… if you don’t want to use traps or the LB then you probably will be better off not taking it.
