Living World 3- Spoilers

A few things:

1. Seems like they are setting up the chak as an alternative to killing the dragons. I think we’ve established at this point that killing the dragons is a bad idea. The chak “transform” the ley line magic, into a form I assume will be more useful to us and less useful to the dragons, thus putting them in permanent hibernation.

2. It also looks like Lazarus is going to fight the dragons, or at least get involved somehow. He has a “noble” purpose now and is no longer interested in the mortal races. I suppose it could also tie into the 6 human gods somehow as well.

A side note is that Lazarus unlocked all the magic in the bloodstone and contains it in a much more raw form in himself now. This will make him a HUGE target for the dragons as they are drawn to sources of magic and I think he is now 3 dragons worth of magic.

3. Cadeuous just doesn’t seem very important anymore, I hope they don’t linger on him too much. Canach will almost certainly join us full time soon, he is a much better character than treeham.

4. I feel like kassmeer hasn’t been in the story in like 2 years? Is she still alive? Did she die from that poison thing? Not a very memorable character, if she is still around they need to do something with her.

5. Primordious will be interesting. I hope we learn about what happened to the dwarfs. It looks like asura will get the spotlight this season which will be a nice change from the slyvari centric story so far.

This is the only content we get for 4 months. I’m pretty sure you’ll have plenty of time to get the transport item or take every alt you desire through the story. I’ve already bought the 4 gliding skills the teleport thing and 2 of the 3 exp tomes. It’s not very difficult to get the unbound magic.

Nope just one map. The thing to the left is a guild hall and the one above the new map is the raid.

This sounds like exactly what WvW should be? Massive battles with built up lines of defence with multiple organized teams. Sounds like heaven.

2 gold for dailies-- did it work?

Inflation is very hard to measure in this game. Generally inflation is measured by the changing value of necessary items, like food, water, clothing. Things needed to live. The supply and demand of these things are very stable, so changes in price are fairly easy to track. In GW2 there are no necessary items, everything other than blue armor and weapons are just luxuries. This makes it difficult right off the bat. Then add in the fact that supply and demand are anything but stable. Anet makes micro-adjustments to the economy about every 2 weeks when there is a patch. For instance the latest patch changed the supply of mystic coins. The raid patch changed the supply of ectos since many people came back to raid. As such it is nearly impossible to determine what effect inflation has in GW2.

We can say for certain that the extra 2g a day caused at least some inflation since no additional gold sink was added to the game that I am aware of. However the actual amount is hard to quantify.

It’s bad enough they were supposed to come in 2013

I challenge you to find ANY dev post that specifically states as fact that anything related to legendaries was supposed to arrive in 2013. Do you mean precursor crafting? Pretty sure they said something along the lines of “if kitten doesnt happen and/or change, precursor crafting might be out by the end of the year.” And guess what? kitten DID happen and/or change and those plans changed along with them.

How are there people who still see statements of potential possibilities (“this may or may not happen at some point”) and somehow twist it so hard in their head it comes out as an inviolable Word Of God Fact (“this WILL happen by the end of the year”)?

You mean like this:

Second to last paragraph states it’s ANYTHING but a “fact,” and changes what you thought was a “will” into a “should.” Try again.

Not sure if serious…

They said they’d do it… they didn’t do it. Doesn’t get any more clear than that

As was said above, it’s every 2 hours. Last event was an hour and 16 minutes ago (at 1:20pm central time). Next one is in less than an hour.

That’s too long. Most people only log in for 1-2 hours a day. Standing around hoping the event spawns is lame. Once an hour would be much more reasonable. Every 30 minutes would be even better.

I would raise the prices a little, but this is a fun idea. Maybe just one extra pip and no pip on loss though. This would let you spend shards when you are close to a save point to remove a lot of the frustration of getting so close then getting stuck with crappy teams over and over.

I think this would definitely boost PvP participation and make the whole thing more fun. Would also give good value to shards.

Yes you are forced to raid for Legendary armor

You are also “forced”:

To play PvP for glorious armor
To play WvW for their newly added armor set
To do full map exploration for old legendary weapons
To do full HoT map exploration for new legendary weapons
To play events for Karma armor/weapons
To play AB for Auric weapons
To play VB for bladed armor
To play TD for chak weapons
To play DS for leystone armor
To do achievements for achievement armor/weapons
To win WvW seasons for Mistforged weapons
To do fractals for Fractal weapons
To do high level fractals for golden fractal weapons
To do fractals for the fractal backpack
To do Ranked PvP for the PvP backpack
To Play SW for luminescent armor

You might as well quit the game, everything seems to be exclusive…

And all of those are simply skins, with maybe the exception of a few stat combos, giving no advantage at all over anything you could buy off the tp or get in any game mode.

Pretty sure everything on that list except maybe luminescent armor is an item not a skin. Legendary armor has the same stats as ascended armor, which can be obtained in all game modes already, so there is no stat advantage, you are getting it for the legendary quality skin. Just like weapons you cannot change the rune/infusion at will so you are stuck with whatever you choose, even more so since runes vary significantly more than sigils do.

That being said, as long as the skin is exclusive I certainly don’t have a problem with other skins being available in other game modes. You can make leystone armor legendary for all I care, as long as the skin stays raid exclusive.

There is just no new events added to the game anymore, those raid update are part of the HOTM expansion that they had promised, now we need to wait for the underwater expansion that come out sometime in 2017….

This is patently false. The last update added over 50 new events. Also every other Tuesday for the last 2 months has added in an additional 3-10 events.

Additionally there was significant WvW updates, PvP seasons, Gliding added to the entire old world, a world boss revamp, QOL updates and a significant number of bug fixes. The amount of raid content has been miniscule compared to the open world PvE content added in the same time period.

Why no Slayer achievements for HoT mobs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

One of the reasons why there is no slayer achievements is because incrementing the slayer achievements require kill credit. The VAST majority of HoT mobs give no kill credit. Kill credit mobs give out XP, Loot, and increment stacking sigils as well as increment slayer achievements. XP and loot was moved to events in HoT and disabled for most individual mobs.

It may not be the main reason, but it will never happen because it would require a complete overhaul of the reward structure of HoT.

Of the ~250 devs, currently 6 are working on raids.

120 are working on the “live game”
70 are working on the next expansion
30 devs are floaters that provide art type assets to all the teams.

http://dulfy.net/2016/03/05/gw2-reddit-developer-ama-summary/#Schedule

So No the game is not even close to raid centric. The raid team has done a fantastic job with their very limited resources, but the make up only a tiny % of the active devs.

Disparity Between Ascended Crafting Materials

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

Here is why the TP can be ignored. All the prices of ascended materials are a direct result of the gathered materials and crafted materials. If a material fundamentally takes more the an equal tiered counterpart, for NO reason at this point in time, then that will skew the TP prices. Furthermore, if one material is based on RNG and the other is not, then the prices for the RNG based one will typically be higher as well as a result. SO if one is RNG and also takes more (for a reason that is no longer valid because we don’t have millions of cloth and leather on the TP anymore) then it will be grossly out of proportion compared to its non RNG/less material required counterpart.

This is an unknown that someone starting the game will discover, and one that those already playing the game don’t understand either. Yes I’ve crafted all three weights (at the time leather was cheapest because it was before HoT) but I was not happy that light cost close to 500 gold when heavy only cost around 300 gold (I’m casual, don’t have the time to grind for mats and could get gold from dungeon runs at the time). How is a 200 gold difference ‘working as intended’ just because I was getting light armor gear instead of heavy armor gear?

I think you are getting confused somewhere. The amount of mats are different precisely BECAUSE of that price difference before HoT. Anet adjusted them so that all 3 armor weights cost relatively the same amount. The disparity you are talking about to craft ascended armor no longer exists…

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_armor

At current prices(ascended mats only, everything else is the same):

Full Light Set: 679g
Full Medium Set: 717g
Full Heavy Set: 649g

The difference between the most expensive and least expensive is only 70g and that fluctuates by ~20g depending on time of day. That is a <10% difference in price between the sets. This is of course because Anet does know what they are doing and the prices are acquisition rates are well balanced.

Non-RAID Legendary armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

Legendary armor is a reward for completing the most difficult content in the game.

That comment may hold true if there wasn’t like 5/8 man teams clearing content designed for 10 man teams, so the content cannot be that “hard” its just maybe more challenging but its not hard, infact the hardest part is trying to find a non elitist group of pugs whom think they are better than everyone else.

While i’m sure you are one of those 5 man teams clearing the raids, I doubt that is very common. Most groups struggle to do it with 10 people, and a lot of people I know are still working on wing 1. I would say the vast majority of the player base finds raids hard.

The fact is, raids are an order of magnitude harder than anything else offered in this game, including PvP. Even with PvP you just have to log in at the right time of day to be uber leet and get to legendary. The only thing harder is PvP competitions, which are few and far between and cater to even less people than raids. (yet get a significantly larger portion of Anet’s time and money)

Legendary armor is a reward for completing the most difficult content in the game. They may be able to do something with PvP and make a PvP legendary armor but outside of that there is no other content currently hard enough to give legendary armor.

Additionally they canceled all legendary projects in order to focus on the LS. It will be at least a year before we see any additional legendary items, and the ones people already paid for will be first if we get any more.

Disparity Between Ascended Crafting Materials

Leather and Cloth both have SUBSTANTIALLY higher Ambient Supply Rates than Wood and Ore do, which means that all players are generating Leather and Cloth at all times, regardless of if they need or want to while Wood and Ore are typically only produced when people intentionally go node farming.

Because it seems you didn’t know that, salvaging drops gives you ore and wood as well. Wood is likely the lowest of all 4, but ore is generated at a similar rate to cloth and leather. And it can be harvested.

But ore has far greater use/demand than cloth and leather.

Sure, but not that much greater. Certainly not great enough to balance for even greater supply.

In short, ore may have bigger demand, but has also supply so good that it still has the best supply/demand rating.

I’m not sure what makes you think that. I have several guildies who use 20,000+ ore/wood a day for precursor crafting. I know at least 2 people who top 100,000 wood/ore a week.

The problem with this thread is that people have no real concept of actually how many mats go through the TP in a given day. For instance did you know that as of 2 years ago, John Smith told us that 10+ Dusk’s are sold every 24 hours. That means people are making at least that many a day. Do you have any concept of how much wood/ore it takes to forge a single precursor, let alone 10?

I think John Smith said something like 300,000 ectos are sold in a day. I imagine wood/ore turns over at about 10x that rate.

2-3 months between LS3 Chapters

What I don’t understand is people were complaining that raids were getting so much high quality content, and that is one release every 4 months. We told them that those release were HoT content spread out over time. Now that they are getting the same cadence that they praised before with raids (and even much much faster at a chapter per 2 months) it is “too slow” and “locking content”. ANET can never win.

Raids were praised because they were built designed and developed by a 6 man team.

LS has 70 people working on it… the fact that it is now being announced as the same release cadence is not acceptable.

You’re comparing a single apple tree that produces a lot of fruit to a multi-million dollar orange cooperation that can’t even seem to produce a single orange.

I’d love to see a quote about LS having 70 people working on it. Because I don’t believe that’s the case. The new expansion had, last we heard, 70 people working on it, but I’ve not seen numbers on how many people are working on it.

We did know that at one point, there was a 20 man team.

Let’s keep in mind though that the LS wasn’t just coming out with instances like raids. LS also provided us with Drytop and the Silverwastes, which are both maps, in addition to instances.

So yeah, a five or six man team doing three instances with two or three bosses each is a lot less work than the living story chapters we’ve seen so far.

I don’t even know why you’d think to compare them. And I don’t know where you got that 70 number from but I’m relatively sure it’s not correct.

Here’s the breakdown of Devs working where:

120 devs working on live game, 70 devs on expansion 2, 30 devs on core teams that support both. With in the live release/expansion groups we have the PvP team, the WvW team, the Fractals team, the Raids team, the Living World team, the Legendaries team, and a couple others…

http://dulfy.net/2016/03/05/gw2-reddit-developer-ama-summary/#Schedule

Hmm ok well there we have it….

Well from that same summary we know the raid team was 6 people and from the legendary cancellation we know the legendary team was 5 people. That leaves 109 people between LS, PvP, WvW, and Fractals.

I think it is safe to say no one, or nearly no one is working on PvP, based on how little has been done, and how terrible the balance is. WvW has seen a lot of sizeable updates recently, they probably have a good chunk. Fractals have seen some updates and supposedly more are coming.

So from that 114 (legendary team got added back to live team) I would probably put the breakdown at 40 WvW, 50 LS, 10 PvP and 10 Fractals.

They certainly haven’t been putting out PvP, Fractal, or LS content, so no idea what they are working on that they still need 2-3 months between releases.

At least the raid team is doing well.

Season 3 Soon?

ZudetGambeous.9573

After stopped playing last wintersday, i wonder if its now really time to delete
the game from my disk ?

If i think back at the days of LS1, i really wonder if only a quarter or a 1/10 of the
team is left, or what the hell is going on.

I am very worried that LS3 will be another chain of story instances and nothing else. LS1 was soooo much better than LS2. I rarely ever do instances in this game at all – no raid, no dungeon master title, fractal level below 20. I only did personal story and HoT story on one character so that at least I have seen it. LS1 however I played the hell out of it.

Somehow i doubt you’ve played S1 more than S2 content. Unless you haven’t stepped foot in Silverwastes or Dry Top in the last 18 months. Both of which were introduced with LS2.

LS2 was just about right. It has instanced stories, along with introducing new armor sets, new achievements, 2 new maps, and a variety of events. They also had a release schedule of about once a month though there was a 3 month break at the half way point.

If LS3 is going to be 2-3 month between each release plus the 9 month head start they had then I expect each release to contain a full map, 3-4 story chapters, a new armor set, new weapons, new achievements, and much more content. That would be just a little more than the LS2 pace which makes sense since they’ve had 9 months prep.

It depends on content quality. If it’s going to look like 1-2 LS2 chapters then I’d be completly dissapointed, but if they released new map like DT or SW every 3 months (not necessarily with meta events like them, just with even something small going on and have story take place there) and like armour set, few achievments, I’d be more than happy.

I’m not sure what you mean… LS2 introduced both DT and SW in map chunks every 2-3 weeks.

Yet you say you don’t want it like LS2 and you want them to release a new map every 3 months… That is just a slower less content filled version of LS2…

That’s exactly the opposite of what I want.

Wait, so are saying that HoT, the expansion that was meant to introduce all these new systems that were going to cement systems into place once and for all, need to be changed or redone??

HoT was supposed to be the groundwork for ALL future content, so they failed on this then? You would agree that HoT was a failure in this regard since you are now saying that they should develop new systems on an entirely new “groundwork”?!

You can try to see the silver lining in all this all you want, but at least admit that ANet has made some HUGE mistakes lately and that it seems like they don’t know what they are doing anymore.

Personally, I think they got a LOT of things wrong in HoT. But, that’s not quite what I’m saying here…

As you say, they made a lot of new systems in HoT to lay the groundwork for the future. With so many new systems and things going on in the background, it’s not really surprising that at least one of these new things didn’t work as expected. So, now they have to go back to the drawing board and either find a way to fix it, or replace it from the ground up.

It just so happens that the system that crashed on them is one they need to make the new legendary quests. And, I’m betting, it was intended to be used to make and adjust other events as well. So, they need to get it fixed.

They’ve literally been saying that with every release since launch.

Fractals… “We’re laying a groundwork so we can expand fractals and add them in quickly in the future”…. 3 years later….

Precursor crafting…“They are taking so long because we want a to lay a good foundation for future legendary’s that’s why we’ve delayed them so many times”… 3 years later…

Living World… “Season 1 was slow paced because we wanted to lay the groundwork for future living world updates where we can give higher quality content at a better pace”… 3 years later…

PvP… “we’re revamping PvP so we can lay a good foundation to build upon in the future where we can quickly add in new PvP content”… 3 years later…

HoT… “our first expansion didn’t have as much content as we’d like because we are laying the foundation for future content where we can quickly expand it in the future”… 9 months later…

I honestly can’t believe anyone is still falling for that load of crap.

As a result it has become increasingly toxic. I’ve seen commanders filling a group, running the maps then locking the group and kicking anyone who doesn’t pay a bribe preventing them from multi-mapping. I’ve seen all sorts of toxic behavior now. As a result I think it is time to end this, not because of the amount of loot but because of the toxic nature it is fostering. This is how all the other loot farms ultimately needed as well. Once they become toxic Anet has no choice but to remove them.

I didn’t think of this, but I agree. Yeah if it’s not too late the data gathered from the forum is pretty much guaranteed to be skewed. There should at least be an in-game mail like the WvW voting. That is if you want data that actually represents the population.

They don’t want data that represents the population, they want data that represents the people who talk. Vocal people determine the positive or negative press the game receives. As long as the vocal population is happy the game will do well.

I’m glad they are letting us make it one piece at a time instead of all at once. Makes it something you can works towards instead of having nothing for months and then get it all at once.

Also helps spread the cost out so you don’t need to save up 5000g at once.

Overall it seems quite reasonable for a full set of armor.

I think the reasoning behind letting you keep the first set of armor is that armor is not as transferable as weapons and backs are. Sure you only get 1 legendary back and no ascended’s when you make it but you can transfer and use that legendary on all your characters for all time. If I make a set of legendary armor of one weight class I can not transfer it to any other weight class. For me this means of the 4 characters I raid with, 2 will not be able to use the legendary armor I make. It makes sense to let you get a second armor weight of your choosing and craft the 3rd since many people use all 3 armor weight classes in raids on a single account.

Except that you can’t use your shiny Sunrise on revenant, Bolt on elementalist or Predator on thief. “Because different armor classes” is not answer.

You will after enough expansions

Well I did a rough tally now that we are almost to 500 posts.

~90% yes
~10% no

I think the answer is pretty clear.

Why? Some people like to do world completion, some don’t, why should those who like to do world completion be able to craft legendary weapons while those who don’t, through no fault of their own, are blocked out? What sort of sense dose that make?

I agree, none at all, so obviously there should be alternative ways to earn a Gift of Exploration, but for the time being, while that remains an issue, getting World Completion can be done in a tiny fraction of the time and effort involved in beating a single raid wing through your own efforts, especially if you’re running World Completion with nine other players to back you up, so the comparison is a rather weak one.

Yeah NO. That’s dumb and also this is not the place to discuss it. Make your own thread to complain.

Thanks for the update! Hopefully not too much longer.

I’m glad we can’t get it right now though, this way puts people on more equal footing so that the testing guilds don’t get the armor weeks before everyone else.

Got all my mats ready, just need 30 more LI’s to finish off the last few bits, glad we can make individual pieces so I don’t need to have them all at once.

Yeah I noticed the downed thing during our raid yesterday. It was really annoying. I suspect it is a bug, and I encourage you to report it so it gets fixed sooner.

Nice job! How did you keep him from doing the giant bomb attack? Every one of those attacks wastes ~20s and our raid group has it happen 8-10 times per fight. We just simply run out of time or get overrun by ghosts because we constantly have to spread out for the bombs.

If the info on reddit is true, 6 condensed gifts of might and 6 of magic, that’s extremely expensive… What happened to “Whole Legendary set wont cost more then a single legendary weapon” …

They said it would be comparable, not that it would cost less. And it is comparable. An ascended weapon costs ~100g, while a legendary weapon costs 3000g. An ascended set of armor costs ~500g so the comparable legendary armor should cost ~12000g. The price is less than 12000g so seems like a bargain to me.

Its looking like the whole thing will cost 4000-5000g which seems pretty reasonable for an entire set of legendary armor.

Keep construct bugs

Well the stack removal has definitely been fixed. However my raid group is having trouble continuing on this boss due to the sheer amount of RNG. Not sure if it is still buggy or intended, but the fight is not fun in its current state.

The statues still swap fixate at random. Having a statue merge just because it decides to randomly stop following someone and sprint across the room is not skillful or fun.

The large bombs seem to follow no pattern. Every time a bomb phase triggers it adds 20 seconds to the boss fight. We’ve had it spawn 0 times and we’ve had it spawn 10 times. Losing 3 minutes in a 10 minute fight due to RNG mechanics is not enjoyable.

If these final two things can be fixed I think this would be one of our favorite fights, but it is still too random to make any meaningful progression.

Yes please change it.

It currently looks very odd for two races without breasts to have those cups. They would look much better having just the male version of the armor. Thank you for considering this!

Well the recipes are starting to be found. Price is a little shocking, but they are all things you can work towards, and it is inline with the price of ascended weapon compared to ascended armor.

First gift is looking to cost 3000g (at current prices, expect it to rise). Second gift is mostly cost free but requires items you will need to work for. Third gift is looking like a pretty tedious grind, but it remains to be seen as the final component hasn’t been found yet. No idea what the price of the pre will be, but I expect not cheap.

Keep construct bugs

Spent a few hours on keep construct and noticed a few very annoying bugs:

1. Killing statue on top of boss fails to reduce his stacks about 30% of the time

2. Statues will sometimes randomly swap players even when no phase change happens

3. During last 50% too many particle effects and red circles. Had 3 people DC during last phase because the game couldn’t render all the circles. Also circles stacked 2-3 deep will glitch and stop showing any circle in the overlapped area.

Annoying mechanic:

When 66% and 33% phases trigger they wipe out any burn phase you worked towards. This can waste up to a full minute of time. Would be significantly less annoying to have the phase trigger after the burn phase finishes.

When it is working the fight is a lot of fun. Hopefully these bugs can get ironed out quickly.

The state of thick leather

Reducing the cost from 4 per cured to 3 per cured will not make it “vendor trash”.

Do you have any proof to back this up?

The relatively stable price over the last 4 months, with changes only coming due to the Spring patch and the forthcoming legendary armor tells me that the supply and demand are currently well balanced, with a similar amount coming in as going out at the current price. Reducing from 4 to 3 leather would increase the incoming supply by 25% while the demand stays the same. Thus leather would pile up and drive the price down and down until it was back at vendor value.

That didn’t happen with softwood logs. They used to take 4 logs per plank, when HoT came out it dropped to 2 logs per plank. As you’d expect the price per plank has halved but the price per log has remained pretty much the same (apart from a brief spike to almost 5s a log).

The price of leather squares will drop to 3/4 of the current price (because you’ll only need 3/4 of the sections as before) but the price of sections will remain much as it is now. The reason the price dropped so low was because there was little or no use for leather before now (unless you were making medium armour). Now it’s required.

They increased demand, that’s fine, however at the same time they decreased supply (by nerfing salvage) and increased the amount required per square so they’ve fiddled with too many of the economic knobs at the same time in my opinion. Increasing demand alone would have been enough (especially if they used a lot of once off guild upgrades to burn through the surplus). They could have cautiously tweaked salvage rates to further adjust it if needed but they’ve gone too far again.

Except that’s not what happened at all. The price of softwood logs are exactly the same as they were 2 years ago, and 1 year ago. They reduced the amount after HoT launched because they added significantly more demand for them in HoT through guild halls and other sources. This increased demand meant the supply was no longer balanced and within a month the price of logs had tripled with no signs of slowing down. They adjusted the amount to re-balance supply and demand which worked.

Thick leather on the other hand was not balanced before, it was way over supplied. They increased the demand by rebalancing the refinement process which balanced supply and demand and brought the price up to a stable level. The same price as soft wood logs I may add.
