Oh please, crybabies. Condi damage is so freaking cheesy ….. you can go full tank and still have condi damage. A viable power build would need power AND precision and in most cases even ferocity which makes you instant glass cannon, as in … you get focused for a second and you die.

Meanwhile, to be viable condi DPSer all the stats you need to stack are, wait for it —-————- condi damage. That’s all there is to this braindead gameplay. It has no risk in it. Just reward.

Talk about spamming all you want, but spamming autoattack on a thief/DH and spamming AA on necro are 2 different things.

Oh what was that? Retaliation doesn’t hit back when you attack through condis? Ahh … cool. Meanwhile glass thieves kill themselves on targets with retalionation up.

I can totally see how condition damage is balanced. amirite?

I can’t tell if you are serious and have just never played a PvP match before or if you are just trolling…

Well, its been almost 6 months now since HoT release. If there was a grace period for refunds, it’s undoubtedly past that now since anyone who bought a game 6 months ago would reasonably be assumed by support to have played it past any reasonable refund point.

If there is a grace period it would be based on when the individual bought HoT and not when it released; true… so, yeah, still probably not that helpful who bought it at launch.

Even if a grace period has lapsed, do we know of anyone who’s contacted CS and said, “I bought HoT because of the legendaries, and since they’re indefinitely postponed I’d like a refund on HoT?” Many of the pages of this thread are running together in my mind now, so I don’t recall.

~EW

I just want them to deliver what they promised. I don’t a refund. I enjoy raiding, and I enjoyed the small amount of content HoT had, though I probably won’t pay $50 for that little content in the future knowing they won’t deliver most of it anyway.

What reason do you have to ever give your best if the only thing you actually need to do is just “try”?

Fun. If you have no other reason to play the content except for the rewards, then it’s better for everyone if you could get those rewards somewhere else.

And if all of that doesn’t seem worth your time then the reward probably isn’t as shiny as you think it is.

I don’t understand that reasoning. Assuming you’re not a masochist, what reward in a game could be worth so much that you’d accept months of self-punishment for it? What positive effect could come from encouraging such a behaviour?

I don’t see that as a problem. How can people be motivated to try new things if they can have everything in a same game mode ?

The tryout rewards, those that do not require high commitment to that mode.

Wrong again, we deserve it because we’re doing raids, and it happens that it’s the raid reward.

By that reasoning, if it happened to be a reward in other gamemodes, people playing those would deserve it as much as raiders do. Which is what i was saying all along.

indeed, it’s their game, and their choice to reward raid with legendary armor.

It’s also their choice whether to reward other content with it or not.

I think it is, at least for now in order to measure the impact of releasing these new items. Ascended were totally gated at the beginning but with time they gave opportunities to get some in many different ways.

Maybe you don’t remember, but they have admitted then that the decision to gate ascended, instead of waiting till they were able to implement a more widely accessible system from the get go, was a mistake.

This is what happens when the people who got trophies for showing up and none of their games kept score grow up…

People do things to earn the rewards, that is the driving force behind every game. No one plays game “just for the fun of it”, that would be boring and a waste of time. People play games to WIN.

Ok other than NOOOO are there any actual arguments against this? There is no correlation to skill in any of the tiers, so this has nothing to do with competition. You will get better matchups if we base it on MMR and remove the pip loss system.

Or do people here not want better match ups? Just want to be carried into a high league so you have a special marker next to your name?

ZudetGambeous.9573

It seems to me that most of the frustration, complaining, horror stories and quitting all comes back to the same thing, pip loss.

This system of losing progress on something you’ve worked hard for is not present in any other area of the game, and is hurting PvP. I propose that pip loss be removed from the tracks up until diamond. Currently the different tiers have no bearing on skill at all and are just leading to endless frustration. Make the tiers a secondary reward structure that only advances upon wins, but does not lose anything on losses.

This will instantly solve many of the complaints and frustrations that players have.

Once you reach diamond tier the system can resume how it currently is and still allow for the competition and extra advancement. Matchmaking will return to being based on MMR alone and not mixed in with the various tiers.

Most players don’t even know about this change.

Because it’s such low impact content for most people that it doesn’t affect them.

You keep referring to it as low impact, which in addition to being somewhat vague, is something none of us have the data to determine. Only Anet has the information relevant to determine that, and we have no idea what was actually factored into their decision. For all we know, it could have absolutely nothing to do how much “impact” legendary weapons have.

You’re right … I’m making an educated guess on that. I’m assuming Anet isn’t stupid enough to cancel high impact content that has a low cost to implement that they can deliver vs. low impact content that is more costly that they can’t deliver. You know, business decision stuff based on ROI, etc … much better metrics than what any of us have access to.

let’s not get back into the premise that Anet is clueless about what they are doing, so we can assume anything they do is stupid and therefore, reinstate Legendary development. That goes nowhere.

So why are they still working on legendary armor?

It seems unlikely that legendary armor would have more impact than legendary weapons. It’s acquisition is even put behind content designed to be a challenge for more hardcore players. It also has a collection workload on-par with a full set of weapons, in addition to skins that are much more work to create to due to requiring different models and textures based on race and gender.

And I also think it’s fairly reasonable to question the decision making of a company that comes to the conclusion that a decision that they know will anger a lot of their customers, turns their own promotion/marketing into false information, and will negatively impact consumer trust/confidence, effecting the sales of their future products is somehow good for business.

The problem was never the skins, it was the acquisition. So far legendary armor just needs raids to complete, which just have very simple item drops from content they are already developing. They don’t have to find events, recode those events, link those events to a story, revamp the events and add in hundreds of items like they did with weapons. I don’t think the armor will be nearly as involved, though it will certainly be expensive.

Also the raid team may be in charge of the raid rewards as well, so it might be all bundled together. Maybe they are less incompetent than the weapon team.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

None. Raids are the way to earn legendary armor. If you don’t raid then you don’t deserve it.

If you raid, you don’t “deserve” it either. You get it because that’s the current decision of Anet, nothing more. There’s no “deserving” or “being worth” the reward.

I will get legendary armor because I am willing to work for it. Therefore I deserve it. You are not willing to do the work, therefore you will not get it. You do not deserve it.

That’s pretty much all there is to it. Fairly simple and straight forward.

Even if Anet does release another method in PvE for getting it, most of the people will still not get it and will still complain about it…. why? because they aren’t willing to do the work, that is the whole problem to begin with. Raids are just like any other PvE content, if you aren’t willing to do them now then you probably aren’t going to do them with the other method either, it would be a waste of Anets time.

Sadly I’m not gonna read 50 pages of threading to see 2-3 constructive feedback and 49 Pages of whining. I did read the first 10 or so pages and got tired of seeing everyone whine. I then started only looking at what Mo had to say and then moved on to the later opinions people had. Still the majority is whining which in my opinion is really sad for such a big community game.

It’s ok to complain about things. People are expected to be sad when they are disappointed, and hurt when they are betrayed. You don’t have to go through life being a doormat.

I do agree we dont need to go through life being a doormat but rather make your feelings into something useful or something constructive atleast.

It has been proven time and time again that the only way to reach Anet is by withholding money, bad reviews and yelling as loud as possible.

All reasonable and mature responses have yielded 0 results over 4 years, yet yelling and screaming and making a fuss and leaving bad reviews has lead to a positive change in almost a dozen separate instances.

If Anet wants to change the response then they need to change their policy first. Until then we will do what is necessary to enact change.

I’m fine with difficulty teirs so long as kills in easy mode do not count towards unlocking the legendary armor.

Then what PvE method would you prefer for earning Legendary armor outside of raids?

None. Raids are the way to earn legendary armor. If you don’t raid then you don’t deserve it.

If they want to implement a different skin legendary armor in another game mode that would be fine. They could make the Glorious extra shiny super mode PvP armor legendary, or they could make a different skin for WvW somehow and that would be fine.

Of course that will never happen in a million years. They can’t even deliver the legendary equipment we already paid for, they certainly don’t have the resources to make an entire set of legendary armor.

Well i’ve read through this thread and it has yet to be established that there is any actual problem. As such I see no reason to change anything.

The vast majority of items can only be acquired by doing their associated content. There is no reason for legendary armor to be any diffent.

Want PvP armor… you must PvP
Want Chak weapons… you must play TD
Want Bladed armor… you must play VB
Want PvP mini… you must do ranked PvP
Want extra shiny PvP… you must reach the top 100 in ranked PvP
Want legendary armor… you must do raids
Want new legendary weapons… you must do all HoT content

I could go on for another 100 lines or so, but the fact is that almost ALL skins, titles, and armor in this game are tied to very specific content and can’t be acquired elsewhere. The only things that can be are base items that came with launch, and gemstore items that can be purchased with gold.

Locking skins behind certain game modes and events is fine. But when you lock stat changing items to one game mode where stat changing really doesn’t matter is completely dumb. WvWr’s need those stat changing gear due to meta shifts and build exploration.

“stat changing items”….

I can’t say i’ve ever met a single person who got a legendary in order to change stats. If this is an issue then just remove stat changing from legendary items and be done with it. It is a worthless feature anyway since you need new runes and infusions for each build anyway, plus all new trinkets. It is far easier and cheaper to have 3 sets of ascended armor, one for condition builds, one for power builds and one for defensive builds. That will be much cheaper, get around the rune and infusion problem and let you play on more characters if you choose.

Huge HP pool

High uptime on soft CC/Chill

multiple condi transfers

Decent/average movement with reaper shroud + swiftness

Massive team fight damage

Boon corrupt

Low skill floor (albeit just as high of a ceiling as any other class)

Good 1v1er/really good ones can even 1v1 condi mesmers with moa

I mean seriously does any class have more potential? And this is coming from a reaper main this season that got me to diamond. But I am sick of feeling like I have to play it if my team is short on necros or if I just want to win.

I’m only at high level ruby right now, but I have no problem beating reapers on my ele, my mesmer or my guard… sounds like a l2p issue. I can also beat every reaper on my reaper.

Condi transfer, soft CC, and boon corrupt. Those are really the staples of the class, so I think they should be left alone and if anything needs toning down then look at some of the other things instead.

I’m curious about this legendary team. Just how many people were part of it during HoT’s development…the parts of it that were actually being worked on before they released?

If it has taken 6 people 6 months to produce a single legendary weapon, this can’t be the same team that built the precursor crafting that shipped with HoT and the 3 weapons that came shortly after. It would have taken them taken them about 4 years to complete that task at this pace.

It looks like this team either had a lot more people on it during that time, or a different team was in charge of the original set precursor journey while this team was struggling to produce 3 weapons. In either scenario, it would have been obvious to Anet that these 6 people were not going to be able to finish the remaining weapons in any reasonable time frame, and that Anet had the people needed to finish the job and chose to use them elsewhere knowing the job would go unfinished.

Well to be fair they first announced we were getting revamped precursor journey in early 2013… so it may have actually taken almost 4 years… Of course you think they would have figured out it was not sustainable sometime long before now.

It’s pretty obvious that the problem is incompetence, and only incompetence.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

As for rewards though, I think they made a mistake here. IMO raiders would’ve been fine with normal exclusive skins, putting legendary armor as a reward for it was probably not a great idea. It just makes all casuals who don’t wanna put in the time extremely salty, which means a great deal of complaining as seen in this thread, which means the likely possibility the raid team will go the same way the legendary team went as soon as wing 3 is out.

Gotta agree with you. Their motive to affiliate Legendary Armor with the Raid was, I assume, to boost the numbers of Raid participation so they would have some good metrics to show the bean-counters and thus justify the dev staff devoted to it.

But that has the potential to really turn around and bite them in kitten in the long run, as their casual and moderate player base feel alienated, which means they will be less likely to buy the next Expansion or even stay around at all.

Anet clearly does not think that legendary’s are a driving force behind any casual players or they would not have canceled their production of them in the open world, let alone locking them behind raids.

Well I just realized why they did this… I didn’t make the connection before but it is pretty obvious in hindsight.

The decision was made for the same reason they make most decisions in the game.

Esports!

They remove all legendary weapons from PvE, while simultaneously releasing new legendary items in PvP, thus driving a significant portion of the playbase into PvP for their long term goals. They conveniently mask this decision by pretending to give other game modes a legendary item as well (fractals) but they will never complete it and ultimately it will be scrapped for not having enough resources or interest.

They have already promised to release a new legendary item for PvP every year, and they are now boasting over in the PvP forums how they have grown PvP by 130% this year.

You can bet that legendary armor will only be for the first raid and after that it will be too much work to continue, but magically they will then release a special PvP only armor set after that.

This is all part of their plan to push Esports more and more it seems.

Let's talk about Amalgamated Gemstones.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

Apparently my asking for a dev quote from Reddit addressing the amalgamated gemstones was off topic to the dev quotes from Reddit thread. Fair enough. This thread is the closest I can find to the topic, so here is my post again:

The dev quote I’m looking for is the one that says y/n to plans to change the amalgamated gemstone recipe or requirements. I am perilously close to having only 249 amalgamated gemstones between me and HOPE (8 more PS runs through Buried Insight, 97 more crystalline ore, and a hunk of obsidian shards I can karma-buy, then all the amalgamateds). I find myself doing things other than playing GW2 because I am hanging fire on that decision from the Legendary team.

I don’t need to know what the change will be, just will there be a tweak to the recipe in the April patch or not? If not, I’ll start the tedious and expensive process of creating those gemstones and making my ingots, because dang but I want my pretty pistol. Same way MO gave a heads up on the fractal and wvw changes, this is a possibly imminent change that affects game play. I know there have been some Reddit and ANet forum threads asking this but I do not know if there has been a dev comment since the original “we’re looking into it” a while back.

So if anyone has found a dev comment on changes to amalgamated gemstones, lay it on me, please.

They already implemented the fix. See the thread about legendary weapons. They removed all future demand for gemstones, thus ensuring the price will steadily fall over time. It might take a few months, but the price will eventually fall as more and more supply is getting made but there is no more use for them.

ZudetGambeous.9573

Together we grew the active player-base for PvP by 135% last year – and that’s pretty awesome.

This certainly sounds impressive until you stop and think about it…

That means you a little over doubled the ACTIVE PvP population in the past year.

First, you need to define active? Play PvP 1 match a day? 1 match a week? 10 matches a day? By correctly defining “Active” I could double or even triple any aspect of the games population.

Second, there is no information on the % of players who are “active” in PvP. what was it last year? 5? 10%? 50%? If you doubled from 1% to 2% of the active population then 200K was a supreme waste of money.

Finally you fail to mention HoT launch and F2P. These two things more than doubled the active population of GW2 compared to before. Without putting these numbers in context they are meaningless. How much has the PvE population changed in the past year? fractal population? WvW population? If these sections of the game have grown by more than 100% with the launch of F2P and HoT then PvP has actually failed, not succeeded.

I’m not sure the ‘core’ game’s content is being held up because of some art assets. If you think the people creating art for Gemstore products are versed in other parts of the game, you might be disappointed. It’s not like they have to create anything but skins for items already designed.

On the other hand, losing a major part of the game’s monthly income right now might cause the company to consider letting employees go. Which, again, wouldn’t cause core game content to be produced any faster.

Food for thought….

If the company needs to do poorly enough that they need to lay people off to get back in touch with reality then so be it.

The problem is that they spent 3 years developing a legendary journey system that was inherently unsustainable. We asked for a way to CRAFT precursors, instead they gave us a convoluted mess that takes months and months to code, troubleshoot and QA.

If they had given us the crafting method they mentioned 3 years ago, they would have not been this problem.

For instance the model, effects and animations for the current 3 legendary weapons were developed over 2 years ago, and required no work for HoT. The journey and quests are the problem.

ZudetGambeous.9573

Wow. There is still back and forth over this.

It is actually pretty simple: there is no false advertising here. Any reasonable person looking at the advertising from before the expansion launched would conclude that they did not have the legendary weapons on hand to release, and therefore, no reasonable person would conclude that there was an absolute guarantee of getting any legendary weapons.

This is analogous to going to a pub or a restaurant and ordering a burger and chips. Most pubs cook these things to order, they don’t have a load of cooked burgers sitting in a warming tray ready to serve you, nor are they going to have freshly-cooked chips to serve you instantly.

In this case, the burger arrived after 15 minutes, without the chips, and you took two bites out of it and found that it was undercooked. And there’s no sign of anyone for a while, then the waiter who took your order grabs his coat and walks out. Then you manage to flag down another waiter and ask them what the hell happened to your chips and why is your burger raw? And the waiter says that they aren’t making any more chips today — without elaborating on why — but says that they will re-make your burger, and asks you to choose a different side from the menu.

There are plenty of things wrong with what’s going on here, but if you honestly think it’s unfair trading or false advertising then quite frankly, we are not going to agree on anything any time soon.

Going back to the pub analogy, any reputable pub or restaurant would offer a bit more of an explanation for where your chips are — “I’m terribly sorry sir/ma’am, but our fryer’s broken down” or some such — and they’d do more than just apologise and tell you to pick something else of the menu. Feel free to complain that ANet haven’t done that (given that they, you know, haven’t), but please don’t be the person kittenponds to problems with their order by decking the waiter and flipping the table over.

Sorry but you are just plain wrong, not much else to say. They advertised 16 legendaries released at regular interval, they are now refusing to provide said promise.

To sum up: they advertised A, they did not provide A, and say they refuse to provide A. Therefore they falsely advertised about A.

Gemstore skins are what fund the company and asking them to stop making them is akin to asking a subscription mmo to stop charging subscriptions.

Gemstore was what USED to fund the game before they decided to fund it by selling at $50 expansion. They are required to provide the content they sold to us by any means necessary. They made the decision to shift away from the gemstore when they started focusing on making us pay for content instead. They now need to provide that content.

I’m fairly confident that the money spent in the gemstore goes to anet, but maybe your right and the money goes to a different company.

Last I heard a large portion of it was going to keep Wildstar afloat, not sure if that has changed recently or not after HoT’s poor performance.

Shift focus away from gem store please!

Gemstore skins are what fund the company and asking them to stop making them is akin to asking a subscription mmo to stop charging subscriptions.

The current company policy of continually releasing hundreds of gemstore skins while not producing the skins that people who purchased HoT are owed is at best disrespectful and at worse criminal.

I propose that resources be shifted away from the gemstore and towards the production of the items that were promised to be delivered with our $50 purchase of HoT.

At current count over a 120 weapon skins have been released in the gem store since the launch of HoT while only 3 of the promised 16 legendary weapons have been released.

I feel sorry for the new people here defending Anet. It is quite easy to tell those who are new from the vets lol. Glad you guys still have optimism.

Remember it took them 3 years to perfect this collection system and thousands of hours of dev resources. All this for a system that is clearly not sustainable. The people in charge of this debacle should be fired.

There was nothing wrong with the previous system.

I think after 3 years it is pretty safe to say that Anet has no idea how to read their metrics if they have them at all.

Healing power main stat is a meta build for PvE WvW and PvP right now. I don’t know what you people are talking about. It is in a perfect place right now, why would you want to change it?

The devs have decided to quit supporting this aspect of the game. You should just destroy it now. The real question is, if you don’t need this map specific material why are you still playing that map? There are far more profitable maps to do.

Since Hot has launched, 128 weapon skins have been released in the gem store. ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY EIGHT!!!!

Maybe, just maybe…. you have too many artists on staff and not enough programmers…

There are many options available to you:
1. Remove 30-70 people working on the next expansion and finish your current one.
2. Remove the raid team which is more niche than the legendary team
3. Fire the probably 100 artists you have working on the gem store and hire some MUCH needed devs to make actual content

The current course is unsustainable for the future of the game.

Why does this game even have "Shortbows"?

Why do we even have Swords ? Clearly the Greatsword is superior. Let’s just replace all swords with greatswords. Give mesmers something else for it because it would be silly for them to dual wield greatswords.

I’m pretty sure most of the classes in the game can use swords, as opposed to almost none of them who can use SB’s. Also swords allow an offhand weapon, giving utility, defense, or offensive differences, which is much different than a greatsword which is yielded in two hands.

I.E. your attempt at a response makes no sense at all.

FYI since this morning they have removed 4 pages of comments, all of them negative as far as I can tell. If you are wondering why more people aren’t mad about this the answer is they are, and Anet is just banning them.

You are talking kitten, as proven by the 26 pages of mostly-negative feedback that remain uncensored, the fact that multiple people have virtually torn them a new one over this without repercussions, and the fact that ultimately, what you are accusing them of doing doesn’t even make any kittening sense. They would gain absolutely nothing by censoring people merely for saying things that they don’t like, and everybody knows it.

I left my computer this morning with this thread open on page 25 I had skipped ahead to read the latest posts. I re encountered the same posts again tonight when I wanted to read the whole thread, but they were shifted 4 pages back. I agree it makes no sense, though then again, nothing Anet does makes sense, so not really a surprise there.

Thank you. I was just going to post that when I saw that you had.

This is only true for now. If they think they can make more money by double locking it behind the gemstore then they will do that. NEVER trust anything Anet tells you. If they can milk more money out of it they will.
