Any reason to play HoT maps now?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I’ve been steadily playing HoT maps since the whole point of them seems to be to collect items for the legendary journey. But since that’s no longer a thing, what is the point of HoT maps? If I want gold or items it is much more efficient to farm SW or Orr. I guess I can finish up the armor set collections, but the long term reason to continue playing HoT maps seems to be gone now…

Are they doomed to go the way of the other barren maps? (southsun cove anyone?)

In other news SWTOR recently stopped releasing raids and is focusing on story, casuals, and its players. They now release monthly story patches, essentially similar to HoT story, except at a reasonable and not absurd price.

It took 3.5 years but GW2 and SWTOR seem to have flipped places now… never thought i’d see the say when EA was being more reasonable than Anet.

Is that with full raid buffs? 25 might, all food/utilities? Because I believe the 5% from zerker’s applies after that.

With full buffs:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNArYWjM0QzNWdDe3AHOWKGspVwMIGE3DHiJxoAwAIBA-TBibABAoEkU1fK7UAQp+AaV+85+DrpEisnAQAgDgdrbAM+4jP+4j3u7u7u7ubpAgZZF-e

2700 condition damage. 2950 with full thorns. So an increase from 184 to 200 for bleeds or 9% increase in damage.

Edit: looks like bursting doesn’t work on the site, so increase those by 6%, still ~8.5% increase but slightly higher numbers. In order for the thorns bonus to match the condition damage bonus of Berserker you would need 5000 base condition damage.

Weird, no one I know in game has a legendary or is working on one.

Hi, welcome to GW2.

Been here since beta, but thanks anyway.

What do you do in this game for 3.5 years if you’ve never made a legendary? After about a year that is the only interesting content left.

As i’m sure everyone knows the devs who were working on our promised new legendary weapons have been removed to work on the LS since legendary weapons only affect a small number of players.

However I am not convinced that is actually true. Pretty much everyone I know in game has or is working towards a legendary weapon collection.

I have to wonder if this decision is actually based on reality or just weird developer bias.

I would love to see some number on how many separate accounts participate in the following in a given week:

1. Raids
2. Legendary weapon collections
3. sPvP
4. WvW

I can’t imagine the numbers here are that far apart. I have a very hard time believing that more people raid than are working on a legendary weapon collection. Based on PvP wait times and the $200,000 prize pools for PvP I can’t imagine wasting devs on PvP is a good economic decision on time/money per active PvP account. WvW has been a barren dying wasteland for over a year now. I doubt they have many more active players than raids do.

It would seem to me that pulling devs from raids or PvP or WvW would all have been more sensible places since they seem to have a smaller population overall than the number of people who are working on legendary weapons.

I’m currently running thorns in raids, but I haven’t tried berzerker’s

I imagine they are pretty close but i’m liking thorns. I have about 2000 condition damage, so 250 gives me a 12.5% increase in CD, which brings my bleeds from 142 to 157, poison from 153 to 168. That’s ~10% boost in outgoing condition damage, double that of Berserker’s but sacrificing the direct damage component. You also get increase poison duration which is an added bonus.

Maybe acquisition of this can be looked at?

How much is the boost from Berserker’s? In raids the periodic damage maintains 5 stacks of thorns from runes of thorns during the whole fight, giving a +250 condition damage boost and boosting your poison duration. Additionally with viper’s trinkets you get 100% bleed/poison/chill and 80% on everything else. I think this may edge out Berserker’s runes at least for condition damage in raids.

it seems to me that they are balanced quite well. Their price and supply are both stable and reasonable. If they reach 1g each then maybe we could talk about changing the supply.

Is there any actual reasons other than “I don’t have enough money” that these should be changed? Gemstones for instance can’t be gotten reliably due to dust limits and node limits. Coins are used for 1 time use items for the most part (Legendary weapons, guild upgrades, winter’s presence), with a few more regular sinks (mystic weapons). They are acquired at a constant rate and balanced around this rate.

Is there refund for those who pre-ordered LANDMARK?

This seemed pretty obvious to me from the start. They never had any intention of making that game, the whole thing was a cash grab to work on their engine and software design. I’m surprised they dragged it out this long though.

As for gw2, if i’m still playing then I will probably pre-order the expansion. HoT was a little disappointing to me, but I enjoyed the new legendary journey and I like the new raids. I liked the story (until the end) too, which is mostly why I played GW these past few years. I hope we get more story soon.

The lack of updates to the story has been the biggest problem to me. I miss the continuing 2 week story as it gave you something to break up the grinding.

They dedicated an entire expansion to casual players and none of them bought it. Expansion sales were abysmal. They should instead focus on player that actually buy stuff and spend time in game. I actually do think they adjusted the drop rates. At HoT launch people suggested doing this achievement since it was the easiest ascended armor piece you’d ever get. beating DS gave a 100% chance of getting a chest box, and the pods were giving out armor pieces at about 1 per 10 pods. I got about half my armor set in the first week after first getting to DS.

I haven’t gotten a chest piece or an armor piece from pods in any of my last 10-15 DS runs over the past month.

Wildstar failed because:

1. Poorly optimized client. People with AMD cards couldn’t even play the game for the first month
2. Linear boring text quests needed to grind for levels.
3. Poorly implemented sub systems
4. no endgame casual content
5. high monthly fee

What GW2 has:
1. 6 out of 300 devs working on raids
2. 99% of content for casual players 1% for raiders
3. Fleshed out and stable client with working sub systems.

Gw2 is nothing like wildstar. I wish wildstar had focused on more general players though. The combat was much better than gw2. The story was original and fun. The cartoon style and humor was very entertaining. The fight mechanics were much better than gw2 as well.

They appear when the event chain in that area is completed. There are 5 chain events in VB, 3 in AB, and 4 in TD.

TD is the easiest. The chains take ~30 minutes but the meta only occurs every 2 hours, so the vendors are usually up for 90 minutes.

The chains are most likely to be completed on high population maps right before the meta starts. Use:

http://dulfy.net/2015/11/09/gw2-hot-maps-timer-famme/

To determine when maps are close to being done and use lfg to taxi into a good map.

It generally takes me about an hour to get 10 tokens out of the 12 possible per day.

Condition Duration: A Re-examination

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

When I started three years ago taking condition duration was “stupid”. Now it’s the opposite; the belief that 100% is the best option no matter what has emerged which is the same extreme assumption. Black and white, no?

You would think that a 3 year old problem would have been solved three years ago since nothing has actually changed but … yeah.

in general condi duration has always been the optimal choice for condi builds. its severely overbudgeted. but you used to only take enough to ensure that you capped out whichever condis you were using, similar to capping out crit rate in your assassin/zerk comparison. that constraint was removed.

Actually, before the changes which currently limit you to 100% condi duration, it was entirely possible to EXCEED 100%. I’m not certain of the exact number, by my necro’s autoattack was, with runes, traits, foods, etc, was able to break 15 seconds on the bleed.

That is unique to Necro Scepter only. That’s because Lingering Curse changes the base duration of the conditions.

Not by enough to account for it being nearly +200% though. This was back when it was a 33% increase, not the 50% we currently have. Granted, that did also include +30% from the trait line bonus too.

I’m pretty sure the best you could do was 12s, never got above that. Necro scepter 2 could get to 25s, maybe that’s what you are thinking of? I’ve played necro since launch.

There’s always been the 100% cap, and scepter always had a 33% bonus (now 50%)

However in the past duration was much less important because of the bleed cap. You could reach the 25 cap solo on necro with about 60% duration so there was no point in going above that (food + bleed trait).

All in the past though, duration reigns supreme until you cap it now. It is highly class dependent too. Necro needs to cap chill, poison, and bleed, with other conditions still benefiting, just not as much. Unless you have a constant druid, then capping burn is also important. Engineer and warrior really just need to cap burn and bleed, so they can get away with a little less viper’s in some situations if they take the right runes and traits.

I think raids tomorrow will be very interesting for conditions. I suspect the sloth boss is going to be condition heavy, maybe throwing out a lot of slow and poison. Any number of situations could arise, changing things up.

Thick leather price manipulation?

The Trading Post is so dynamic, that it’s been proven next to impossible for any one person or group of people to effectively manipulate anything.

I’ve seen this said in every game I’ve ever played and then someone reveals that actually they were part of a cartel doing just this thing and that they’ve accumulated enough money to be able to buy the whole auction house.

Next to impossible is meaningless.
Proving something to be next to impossible is therefore even less meaningful.

The only other game that I have heard of that has a global economy is EvE, and playing that economy is like 50% of the actual expected game.

It’d be interesting to compare to other games with global free market economies, but GW2 and EvE are the only 2 I know.

I know I’ll get barked at by the TP hounds but, JS should have had mechanisms in place to curtail high volume trading from launch. Just having a storage capacity limit on the TP would have been enough. Forcing a player to take physical ownership of items purchased would have limited high volume trading.

Whats wrong with high volume trading?

I don’t know i thought you were playing a game, not some stock exchange simulator….

That’s what wrong with high volume trading in a nutshell.

I must be confused… the TP is not part of the game?

Maybe a high volume PvP game limiter too? Automatically logs you out and prevents you from playing another PvP match if you do too many in a row?

Or a HoT map limiter. Your health steadily decreases the longer you play PvE until you just die over and over and over. Only way to reset it is to log out for 6 hours?

It seem fairly likely that multiple people have been watching leather decrease in supply for the last 3 months. Someone decided to make a large purchase, which probably triggered a run on the market, depleting a large part of the remaining supply.

This happens when supply gets below a certain point for almost all items. It happened recently with gemstones, and also with mystic coins. The increase in price always causes more people to list the item, or the speculator to relist the item immediately at a higher price, bringing the supply back up, but at a slightly higher price.

Rarely are these the workings of a single person. I don’t actually think it is possible for a single person to buy 2.5 million leather in 2 hours. I don’t think the TP loads fast enough.

Like what PvE event can they do? There really isn’t much in the form of competition for PvE.

At the launch of the game they did regular live PvE events. They drew so many players that the servers started crashing.

A few months later they switched to dumping all the money into PvP tournaments and gem store items. PvE content went to normal MMO patches, still every 2 weeks, but greatly reduced in scope.

They expanded PvP again to include large cash prizes. PvE got reduced to “seasons” which if you didn’t attend at launch you now had to pay for to fund PvP

They expanded PvP a third time and revamped the rewards and increased the prize pool again. PvE content stopped completely for a long time and was locked behind an expansion paywall.

If they expand PvP any more then I suspect they will just delete PvE and then shut down the game.

I don’t remember any such live PvE events at launch. From what I remember, the Halloween patch was the first content update that we received followed by the start of what would be SSC. We then transitioned into the first Wintersday followed by the first living story which was very very brief. None of this was really broadcasted like PvP events.

Things like the kakra invasion, scarlet invasion and nightmare tower were all live events. They started and ended during a short period of time during the live game and then were over. Hundreds of players streamed their play sessions during these events.

Of course Anet didn’t stream, it wasn’t PvP, so they didn’t care.

We have no problem beating the encounters, but have to take breaks to deal with wayward kids, and then put them to bed. As such it is unlikely that we will be able to finish both wings before the weekly reset. Every other MMO i’ve played has had a lockout extension so we don’t have to start over. To be honest Fulgarite needs to be tradable.

It really doesn’t.

The entire purpose of Fulgarite is to force people to keep playing the HoT maps, and preventing them from all congregating into 1 or two maps like they did pre-hot.

Its working. You can play on any of the HoT maps at any time of day with little trouble.

Mystic coins seem fine to me as well. They will eventually stabilize, but they have been largely worthless for the games history. They were supposed to be a valuable reward for playing the game regularly. They are finally getting close to that original goal. I think if they double in price again they will be there.

Not sure why anyone things running a meta 9 times is a lot to make a legendary. Surely the other requirements are much harder.

You have to run dungeons 9 times to get the old legendaries (at least you did before the PvP reward tracks were out).

Running a dungeon 9 times took about 10 minutes a run for a total of 90 minutes.

Running the map meta events takes an average of 40 minutes to an hour, for a total of 400-600 minutes and you have to do 4 of them.

They aren’t comparable in the least.

I love the legendarys in GW2 and was supper excited when they said they where bring new ones out. After making Nevermore it really has turn me of making them. I understand it supposed to be a journey but getting the required leyline sparks for the crystaline ingots made me want to never do it again.

I would be totally ok with it if the chest in tangled deapths always gave you one spark and then very rarely gave you more as then its just 250 chest you need to farm. I killed the garent 9 times in one day and only just got the sparks i needed. I open more then 350 chest just to get the sparks. If you making us farm these maps please make the drops 1 per chest and the chance for more. thanks

The problem with TD isn’t the drop rate, it is the same drop rate as VB and AB. It isn’t the number of chests available, there are more chak chests in TD then there are chests in AB, or DS, and only slightly less than the number in VB. Availiblity also isn’t a problem. You can farm them any time during the cycle, not just after a win like AB or DS.

So I guess i’m not sure why you think sparks are harder than the other currencies? I think sparks are one of the easiest of the map currencies to obtain. Can you explain better why you have trouble getting sparks as compared to Airship parts, dust or ore?

Personally I think the hardest one to get is the stupid airship parts. You only get 20-30 crowbars per run and there is no way to farm more, making it by far the slowest of the currencies.

I suspect you are suffering from initial rush confusion. You probably spent a ton of time in VB during launch making it seem like airship parts were easy. Then got caught up in the loot bonanza that is AB meta, and didn’t realize that you were limited to those 27 chests per run, and there was no way to get more than that. Then when you got to TD you realized you were only one map away from DS and rushed to DS without taking time to learn the TD map. Ran DS a dozen times and got lots of crystalline ore due to the extra machetes you had from the story and from not spending your map currencies on the way.

This is a pretty typical idea i’ve seen from people, but doesn’t reflect the current state of HoT. I’ve just finished farming my map currencies for my second legendary and the difficulty to get the map currencies is as follows:

Easiest: AB, you can hop onto the map 15 minutes before the meta and still get enough currency to buy enough keys to open every chest. Takes 40 minutes to get ~20-30 dust. Rinse and repeat about 10 times to finish, for a total time commitment of 400 minutes.

Second: TD, you can hop onto the map 20 minutes before the meta, and bang out enough events to get to 100% participation. this gives you 75 crystals, then another 75 for beating the meta. plus another 50 or so from the chest and the bonus chests. This gives you about 200 crystals or 25 keys, plus 5 you get from winning the meta. (can get a few extra if you do the boss events in your 20 minute prep). Following the 4 lanes after the event chains are completed yields 30-40 chests, more than you will have keys unless you stay for the whole chain and/or farm bags. Takes about 45 minutes and yields 15-25 sparks. Total time commitment of about 500-600 minutes.

Third: DS, can get 30-50 ore per run, depending on luck. Takes about an hour with a good group. Add in another 30 minutes to farm map currency to buy machetes. Total time commitment about 500-600 minutes. (assumed an average of 40 ore)

Hardest: VB, 25-35 crowbars, must stay for the entire run, including night since they are spread out over all the different bonus chests. Takes 2 hours, yields 15-25 airship parts. Total time commitment of ~1500 minutes.

If you guys really want a lower price then you should be campaigning to reduce the price of T3-5 dust. There are millions and millions of lower tier crystals that are flooding the market, but they can’t be upgraded because dust is too expensive.

Instead of asking for flat out price nerfs that will never happen in 1000 years, look for the root causes of the prices, in this case, dust, and ask for the drop rate there to be changed.

Of course the devs already know this, which is why radiant dust has dropped 50% in price the last month since its drop rate was adjusted. Now they just need to add another source and do similar things for T3 and 5 dust.

I don’t see the problem. The new legendary’s are completely in line with the price of the old legendary’s. If they somehow reduce the price of gemstones then they will need to raise the price of something else to compensate for the lost cost.

What item would you suggest reducing the drop rate of to compensate? Or do you just want stuff for cheaper than the people willing to actually work for their items?

More legendaries ?!

Remember when they first announced pre-purchase they told us we were getting a full set.

2 months later there was a footnote at the bottom of a blog post that said instead of a full set we were getting “a handful”, presumed to be 5-6.

2 months after that we were told by a dev post on a 3rd party website that we were only getting 3.

Also remember that it took 3 years and 2 months for them to make the 3 that we did get, even though they were promised to be added as free content by the end of 2014.

Also remember that we are now only getting 4 content updates a year until the next expansion.

Also remember that the winter and spring content patches have already been revealed and detailed with no mention of the legendary weapons.

Putting all this information together means that it is highly likely that we will not see another set of 3 legendary weapons until ~Q1 of 2017.

Keep your expectations low and there is only a 90% chance that Anet will still disappoint you.

250k copies of HoT sold would be roughly 5% of players buying the expansion… which is just… terrible. I have to imagine NCSOFT would have shut the game down by now if those were the real numbers.

We must be missing something. The expansion would need at least a million copies sold to be successful. I remember WoW used to get 50-80% expansion copies sold, not sure what they are averaging these days, but it is certainly well above 5%.

Anyone else find it hilarious that anything someone doesn’t like is now an “exploit”?

These players are exploiting the forums by posting things I don’t like! BAN THEM!

Yeah… it is really embarrassing that in 2016 we have a single text based window with no functionality as the core means for finding a group in an MMO.

I’ve seen better LFG support in 2008 MMO’s.

People are being very optimistic on when we will see the next set. They already told us what we are getting in the march update so that one is out. The next update after that is June, but they already told us most of the june things we are getting, it seems unlikely they’d just leave legendaries out since they are a major draw. So i’d say the June update is unlikely.

The september update is probably a decent guess, though I don’t know if it is realistic or not. It took 3 years for the first 3, and locking them behind a paywall when they said they would be free. I’d guess they will launch the next set whenever they launch the next expansion, presumably in about a year and a half.

I think you’re being a tad too pessimistic , sounds like you have a grudge. Plus they are not locked behind paywall, they are part of an expansion and its content – I think asking to get the content without an expansion is just ridiculous – it’s like vanilla wow players asking to get level 70 and flying mounts without buying TBC. This just how the gaming world works. By the same logic you should be going to Maguma for free as well , right?
If you want to participate in new expansion content, but the expansion . If they hold out till September for the next set of legenderies, I’m pretty sure a lot of people gonna flip, it was one of the selling points of the expansion after all ..

They promised new legendaries as a free update by the end of 2013. As far as I am aware they never made that promise about Maguma so I don’t know why you would expect that to be free. I expected the legendaries to be free because Anet told me they would be free, in 2013…

They also said later that year they had postponed them indefinitely until they could re-work them into a reward system that had changed since the original announcement. They made an intention, they rescinded it a few months late as often happens in all development processes.

Also, the new legendaries were part of the HoT announcement, so yes people will expect them to be free based on that. Whether they will or not, time or tell, but I’d be very surprised not to see most of the remaining skins out before year end. This isn’t like the 2013 situation where they didn’t have a reward infrastructure in place. Now they do and it’s just a matter of work to tie events and NPC’s together for the relevant collections.

I would be willing to bet 1000g that less than half of the legendary weapons will be released before the end of the year. They said it takes them 1+ month per legendary, assuming they work on it full time. Since they haven’t gotten any content at all out for the last 4 months, I assume they are busy working on that and not focused on new legendary weapons. We will MAYBE get another set of 3 before the end of the year, but it is highly unlikely that we will get more than that.

I’m not trying to be super pessimistic, but people have much too high expectations. There is simply no evidence that they will be coming out any faster than I stated.
