Took my reaper into a raid last night. We had 2 reapers, both condi.
After the raid I think I might actually drop reaper and pick up blood again. The main bonus of reaper is RS and damaging chill. I spent most of the fight ranged since I was on circle duty, so RS was pretty much a bust, and the extra healing from blood was sorely missed since we didn’t have a druid.
In fact since I am ranged I might even go spite/curses/blood so I can self might, strip boons, and maintain my dps.
Our group was lacking DPS, so we hit the enrage timer at ~25%. Our group really needed more utility to boost damage and healing, so I may end up being asked to run a support dps tempest tonight, but we’ll see what happens.
Edit: It should be noted that my dps as a full ascended viper reaper PALED in comparison to the viper’s engineer we had in our group. During the split phase we swapped with one of us on green and one of us on red between attempts. The red boss died ~40% faster when the Engineer was on him compared to when I was on him.

Is there a place either here on the forums or ingame to find a raiding guild? Randomly spamming seems like a very ineffective way to find a guild that fits my availability and progression.
I’m fully geared and have all the HoT masteries, I just have no resources to find a guild that fits this…
1. Yes
2. No
3. Not sure what you are asking
This is a huge problem. I’ve had this happen twice now. The first time I saw the message and decided to move. I lost all participation, ended up on a map with LESS people, and received no rewards for the map.
The second time I was screw that, x’d out the message and kept playing. I was rewarded by the map force closing on me, stripping me of all participation, putting me on a map with less people and receiving no reward for the meta event.
I’ve decided to just stop playing HoT meta events until this is fixed.

I can agree that the time crunch, the abundance of deadly mobs and the running around like a maniac portion of it is undesirable.
What I would like to see is all of the pods moved to the reward island with the chest. Keep the drop rate and number of pods the same, but move them to the island. This way everyone gets to the same number of pods and the same chance at the rewards.
This also frees up time to beat the champions, kill the treasure mushrooms, etc.
We need estimated total cost. No point to make ppl waste money if they cant afford it 1/4 way thru the process.
What do you want to use as the “cost”
I’m 99% sure that during the initial rush, the total material cost will exceed 5000g.
However 6 months from now I am also 99% sure it will be less than 3000g
Or we could measure it in hours. Old legendary weapons took ~200 hours to make if you were farming things. I suspect 300+ for the new ones.
I know the 250 crystalline ingots took me about 50 hours alone.
Any word on what/where you get gifts of insight from?
Haven’t seen these anywhere…
Also do you only get 1 gift of maguuma from the map completion? It would really suck to have to do map completion for every single legendary…
Yeah we have a guild B and C team forming up hopefully. Still waiting to see if I make those. I think the A team is more about politics than it is skill/gearing lol.
I know I managed to pug in the BWE with 2 reapers and we made it to 50% and that was pretty much a worse case scenario for necros so I am hoping necro/reaper becomes more desirable as the raid progresses.
I’d love to watch some of the high end players raid as a necro though. Particularly as a condi necro/reaper.
Is playing meta events for XP futile?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573
I find that I start to hit DR by the end of a meta event. This happens when I bounce around and try to do lots of events. For isntance in AB I will complete all the west events, then go do all the east events, then the south events. By the time I make it to the south events I am usually only getting 10k xp per event instead of 18k. I am down to about 8k experience by the end of the meta. If I stay in that map and try a second meta event I am down to <1k xp before finishing westwatch events.
Basically I do one meta event then I can either change maps or log out if I want xp/karma. Generally I just change maps since you need a lot of all the different map currencies so changing maps is ok.
Any necros/reapers get into a raid group for tomorrow?
My guild didn’t pick me, they wanted better DPS and more utility classes so I got benched. Curious if anyone will be streaming a necro/reaper tomorrow?
Gathering mats arent cheap, lots of them gained more than 100% since HoT released.
T6 fine mats lost 50% since hot, t5 mats arrived at a couple of copper over vendor value, so i dont know why you would even mention those. They arent worth much more than t5 leather before hot.Gathering mats is cheap. You are farming 10s per node at max (on good nodes and those are rare) , that IS cheap. t5 rares are still valuable and fractals drop mostly those, although normal t5 is 1-2s each so it isn’t worthless for sure. If u give me gold per hour research on a repeatable node route then maybe i can reconsider this being a thing but for now it is just a fun, casual way of earning few gold that doesn’t involve any group. But if we are talking about getting some serious gold, running some funny nodes isn’t even a thing.
Pretty much nothing in this post is true.
T5 mats are between 15-20 COPPER, not even close to 1-2s.
https://www.gw2tp.com/item/24356-large-fang
https://www.gw2tp.com/item/24282-potent-venom-sac
Running maps with soft wood and Iron can yield significant profits. Especially if you have multiple characters near the rich nodes.
https://www.gw2tp.com/item/19683-iron-ingot
https://www.gw2tp.com/item/19713-soft-wood-plank
SW is also a good option since Sand is highly desired and selling well.
You can do the fractal exploit as well, but you run a good risk of getting banned by exploiting the game, so do it at your own risk.
Flax farming while playing event maps is still good income as well.
If you want to know your damage, just look at your chat log and calculate it yourself. There’s timestamps and/or you can use a stopwatch and time it yourself in realtime. But that’s my opinion.
This is exactly what the tool does, but in almost real time so you don’t have to spend 2 hours with a log book after every fight.
I don’t know how big of a box it looks at for the calculation. The fast scrolling problem could be mitigated by expanding your chat to take up the whole left side of your screen. That way it would have more time to capture everything. But if it only looks at the default chat box size then it might miss some dps from multiple fast hitting things like conditions or thieves. Best way to test the accuracy of course is to do a fight, see what number it gives you then do the 2 hour log book method to compare.
There are a couple things that can help you.
1. At 5-10 gold an hour you are doing ok. to straight up buy a legendary on the TP is like 1500g. That is only 150 hours of play time. Assuming 2 hours a day you will have your legendary in about 3 months if you just straight up buy it.
2. Watch the prices of things. T6 mats are less than half of what they cost 2 months ago. Now is the time to buy them. Save any you get, don’t sell them. Make a list of all the materials you need for your legendary and save what you need, sell what you don’t.
3. Make use of your currencies. You get laurels every day just for logging in. You can turn these into mats, ascended items, etc. Karma you will need a lot of for making mystic clovers, but use mystic clover recipe to supplement your T6 requirements. In your quest for 77 clovers you will probably get 200+ T6 mats.
4. Don’t buy anything else. This seems to be the hardest thing for some people. If you want a legendary then spend your money on a legendary. Don’t buy outfits, don’t buy dyes, don’t buy minis. Don’t buy anything. Once you have exotic armor there is no need for you to spend money on anything other than WP costs and progress towards your legendary. This will be the biggest factor in determining how long it takes you.
5. Do map completion early. You need map completion and it gives you a fair bit of gold, experience, karma, and items along the way. Harvest every node you pass while exploring and you will make a ton of gold. Low level mats are selling like hot cakes right now.
I’ve personally collected almost 1000 flax seeds having 5 characters parked at the VB spot. Takes me about 5 minutes a day to get ~75 seeds.

I just finished getting my 250 ore. It wasn’t nearly as bad as people are saying. I did do the story twice. Look online for pod routes. You should be able to get almost 30 pods open with an average of 11-15 ore per run.
You guys wanted long term content that couldn’t be bought off the TP. That’s exactly what we got.
I didn’t want long term content that I have to play over and over again.
I wanted new and exciting. Fun and interesting.
That’s not even remotely realistic. Replayable content is the hallmark of MMO’s.
DS is going to be THE open world endgame content for probably the next 6-9 months.

FYI there is already a personal DPS meter for GW2 that is completely legal to use. It was part of Anets official Overwolf contest:

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

There is a new HoT mastery track coming that directly relates to raids. (see raid reward blog post on the main GW2 page).
There is also a possibility that the legendary weapon Tyria mastery will be extended to 6 tiers for the new legendary weapons that are being added. But so far that is just a rumor with no confirmation.
If your are looking for direct gold, look at maps that reward shiny baubles. These sell for 30s a pop and you can get 5-6 of them in just a few hours of play. Once you hit the end of the rotation you get 10 of them for a quick 3g. This is on top of the absurd amount of drops that HoT maps throw at you.

Ohh I love the larger size. I might actually buy some minis now, they won’t be just specs on my screen anymore.
Thanks for the heads up!
Use a dps meter and figure out your own dps. That is the most accurate way. There are a number of legal usable dps meters for GW2. They just aren’t promoted very much because people are afraid you’ll see through the lies.
Pre-HoT my condition necro was capable of doing 7.1k dps with no buffs (might/fury/quickness) on a champ Husk.
Haven’t retested since HoT launched, but I suspect my new build is closer to 9k.
In a group setting with constant 25 might, perma fury and high quickness/alacrity uptime I think it would be closer to 12k, but I haven’t bothered to test in those conditions. My results are posted in the necro forum if you are interested in actual numbers.
Theoretical math is good for its intended purpose. If one class has a max dps of 20k and one has a max dps of 10k, then even in terrible situations it is highly likely that the 20k class will be doing more damage than the 10k class. Support classes can have lower dps since they buff the rest of the groups dps. No one cares if a herald or PS warrior does 20% less dps because they are boosting the group dps by 50%.

Easiest way to to check your achievement panel. When you opened them did you get the achievement?
Best thing to do is open one and take kitten of it open while your achievement panel shows that you weren’t granted the achievement, this will prove it isn’t working and expedite a fix.

I think the first 11 HoT story instances were very well done. They had a sense of urgency, good pacing and an interesting story.
However that should have led to chapter 12 ending ACT ONE of the story. We rescue logan and Zojja and then regroup with the pact to go deeper into the jungle to find salad dude.
The last 2 story instances just threw away everything and smashed in an ending that had no place. It had no sense of scale, it had no logical progression, it had no consistency, and it was rushed.
Somehow the dragon who can control millions upon millions of minions, take over entire continents, and mind control an entire race can not focus enough to kill one player? They claim that he is “focused on the outside battle”, but why would he be focused on that battle at all? He can’t be killed that way by the players own admission, yet instead of protecting his main strength he is focused on a pointless battle in the jungle?
The ending just made no sense at all. Hopefully it is just a distraction and he really isn’t dead but instead tricked us with his vast and superior mind.
Can we just have these completely removed from the game then? I think that would be a better option.
I would recommend having speed boost and adrenal mushrooms as well.
Speed boost mushrooms are a 10% dps boost
Adrenal mushrooms are a 50-90% dps boost. If there are any adrenal mushrooms in a boss encounter then the difference between having it and not having it is the same as going into the raid in blues instead of ascended.
They are exactly the same as other lodestones. They just were never used much, and now that the undead dragon is dead I doubt they will see much use in the future either.
On a side note, did they fix the ley-line energy converter yet? or are you purchasing 100 map currency every day to use it?
+1 on this! I love these shoulders, but they are a lot of work right now!
There are a couple different builds floating around right now.
The first is a burn build that focuses on generating life force, staying in reaper shroud and AA’ing to apply burn using the soul reaping grand master trait dhummfire. The basic rotation of this build is SPAM RS 1!!!!
The second build is a more traditional condition build. It uses spite/SR/Curses or spite/Curses/Reaper or curses/SR/reaper to apply bleed, poison, torment, and chill via scepter. There are a number of variations, but using BiP, CPC, and all your scepter skills on CD is pretty much all there is to it.
I’ve been trying to optimize my rotation, but it is hard to time and it is getting more complicated. I think I was getting close until I unlocked adrenal mushrooms and realized they were present at almost all boss fights. Now I have to start over and take those into account. The general idea is to use RS4 while standing in CPC, swap to staff to quickly stack chill, use RS AA until weapon swap is ready then back to scepter/dagger to inflict more bleed poison and torment.
Looks like a pretty obvious exploit to me. I reported him and the exploit, I suggest you do the same.
I don’t know a whole lot about DH condition builds. But the advantage of Viper’s gear is that it gives condition duration. The idea is to get your conditions to 100% duration using traits, and food and runes and Viper gear then once you hit the 100% cap you use sinisters gear.
Food + utilitiy = 30% duration
Runes = 45% burn duration
that gives you 75% duration, so you need to come up with another 25%. You can use sigil of malice to get 10% and then 15% from Viper’s gear, or you can get 21% from viper’s gear and use sigil of bursting for more condition damage.
Other notes:
1. Raid currency to buy boss rewards if you are unlucky with drops (even get some if you fail to kill the boss, limited to weekly amount)
2. High chance for ascended armor/weapon drop
15% is not a high chance and for raids its not sufficient.
15% is about one drop every 6 weeks (if there’s only one boss) which means about 9 months for a full precursor armor set if you don’t get duplicate pieces, but if you do it’s an even longer time.
Well there are 3 bosses per wing, plus events which I think they said also drop loot. Plus there will be at least 3 wings, for a total of 9 bosses. Seems pretty reasonable to me.
I will say, adrenal mushrooms are hilariously fun to use if you are looking for a mastery to max out.
They are present at most of the boss locations and you can boost your dps from like 8k up to ~15k just by fighting near one. They fully reset every CD you have and respawn every 20s. That means you can use your most powerful elite skill every 20s if you are near one. And you can use all your utilities and weapon skills twice as often if you time it right.
It’s not poorly thought out at all. It is working exactly has designed.
Low level masteries are required for the jungle. Mid level masteries gain you access to vendors. High level masteries are mostly for convenience. They are meant to be acquired over the next YEAR, as such nothing is gated behind the high level mastery lines. They are for just a little bonus.
There is one area in DS that needs ley-line gliding to get to, and 2 mastery points that need it. Other than that it is just for fun.

Due to the high demand it is currently much cheaper to buy the mats and make them yourself then to buy them directly. Just play the game normally and you will get enough mithril to do the time gated part each day. You will also get enough gold from playing the HoT maps to buy the iron and platinum for an ingot each day.
Do this and you’ll be done with your precursor in 2 months.
Umm in the first 19 days FFXIV had 3 hotfix patches, 2 of which rivaled what you would see in a GW2 major patch, and a content patch that released their raid normal mode as well as another long list of fixes. In the first month they released 5 hotfix patches and 2 major patches. Let’s also not forget that Heavensward released in a far better state with far more content.
“Give them time” is the most ill-informed thing that anyone could say about ArenaNet right now. They had 3 years and STILL haven’t fixed a lot of the major issues the game has. It took them 2.5 years to finally make changes to conditions so they weren’t useless in dynamic events. Let that sink in for a moment. 1 of the only 2 ways to do damage was absolutely useless in dynamic events. Events that were supposed to be a major portion of the content. Oh but it’s even worse when you consider their combo system, a major game mechanic, actually made the situation worse. That is a gigantic mammoth issue that should have been dealt with in the first few months…2.5 years later and they finally got around to it. I realize that technical issues could be at play, but when other MMO’s had already fixed that issue LONG ago(nearly a decade) that’s a BS excuse. Of course after dev(s?) had said as one of their excuses for not changing it that allowing everyone to place condiitions on a boss would kill it too quick…
The good will and faith are gone. They burned those bridges multiple times. The way HoT has been handled from start to finish has only reinforced that.
Seriously FF14, the game that went F2P for a year plus because they rebuilt it, and rereleased it as FF14ARR?
Sort of like how GW2 went F2P this year and now they are attempting to rebuild it through a half finished expansion?
So is there no patch this week?
The expansion is in shambles… is this one of those you have our money so ha ha on us sort of things?
Can you at least finish patching in all the items needed for guild halls, scribe, precursors and legendaries? Or maybe fix guild missions so they reward our members? Or possibly fix the progress blocking bugs in the meta events?
Maybe put ESports on hold for once and fix the money making parts of the game?
This is an interesting concept. My initial impression is quite positive. I will have to think about it some more and see if there are any potential problems. But it certainly sounds like a pretty good idea to me.
Here is why you need enrage timers and dps checks:
So groups like that aren’t rewarded.
My advice is to pretend the top left corner of the map doesn’t exist. Completely forget about it. Do whatever you can to get to ley-line confluence waypoint. This is your new starting point. Once you have this waypoint your life becomes much easier.
Start from said waypoint. Travel due EAST to get to SCAR lane waypoint. This hosts the 10 event SCAR chain. There are 3 events that cycle over and over after the main chain is done.
Start from home waypoint and travel due WEST to get to ORGE camp waypoint. This is another event chain with ~10 events and 2 cycling events after main chain ends.
Start from home waypoint and travel due NORTH to get to Rata Novus waypoint. This is the 3rd event chain with ~10 events and 2 cycling events.
Once you have ley-line confluence waypoint you can quickly and easily access these 30 events + 6 cycling events. These lanes also contain the majority of the crystallized chak boxes and is the starting point for the meta event.
The final event chain is located up in the top right corner of the map. It is harder to get to, but does give you access to multiple wallows to quickly move around the map. It also contains a 10 event chain with 2 cycling events.
Hope that helps!
Well now I have a video to show people when they ask why raids need an enrage timer!
Awesome heals btw!
Oh no he’s at 99% health, SPAM WATER AUTO! LOL
Best way by far is to use the MF to change stats. The ascended recipe has an INSANE cost. Like literally each piece of ascended viper will cost you what it takes to make an entire set of zerker ascended.
Armor and weapons can be changed in the MF. Amulet you can get from doing all the chapter 4 HoT story achievements, which are kind of a pain.
Rings, earrings, and back are not in the game yet for ascended, so stick to sinister for now.
Well this thread seems to have backfired on the OP…
I have no problem with a couple months to fix minor issues… but our issues are not minor.
1. Scribe profession doesn’t work. You literally can’t progress past scribe 150 because the items to do so aren’t even in the game.
2. Guild halls can not complete many major upgrades because the items to do so no longer exist in the game
3. Precursor collections. These are broken in so many different places that it would take a page just to list them all.
4. Event bugs. In a map system where you need to complete all the events to earn the rewards, having events consistently and permanently bug out is kind of a major problem.
5. Map completion. Want your rewards? Want to work on your legendary? too bad, so sad.
So out of about 6 major features for the expansion, 2 of them don’t work at all, and 2 aren’t even in the game yet, and they still don’t work after 19 days!!!
Play HoT. It drops lots of fancy new expensive stuff. You can earn 3-4g/hr just getting shiny baubels as map rewards.
Also there will be lots of new opportunities once the new legendary weapons are launched. Once people know what they need you will be able to earn and sell that stuff for a pretty penny.
Raids will provide good income next week too.
But many mats are waaayyy down in price, so you don’t need as much gold as you did pre-HoT to make most items.
All the major progress blocking, game breaking, major feature issues?
Every other MMO i’ve ever played except GW2…
Same way it works from all other areas of the game. Kill the boss, loot the chest, chance for ascended box.
Raids just have a much higher chance for an ascended box. I think they said 15% chance.
And yes you will need HoT to play the HoT raids.
Epedemic is only good in a very specific set of circumstances.
You need:
1. A boss Mob that won’t die quickly
2. at least 3 condition specced characters attacking said boss
3. Strong adds that won’t die quickly
4. Melee adds that stay near the boss
Only when all 4 of these conditions are met do you do a really devastating attack. This unfortunately only happens in larger group events when it doesn’t matter because everything is going to die anyway. Based on the 3 raid fights we have seen none of them will make use of epidemic since they do not meet those 4 conditions. I suppose it may be really awesome in one raid fight, but not enough to base a whole build around.
I think we are in a decent place condition wise. Engineer and ranger out condi us for sure, and every other class has a faster ramp up, but I think we are at least close to competitive dps wise. I would like to see a few more buffs, particularly having lingering curse work in RS.
I’d also like to see condition purging bosses reduced or removed. Not cleanses, those are fine, but the purges, where a boss goes invuln and instantly loses all condition and associated damage. If a boss goes into an invuln phase the conditions already on him should finish doing their damage. That alone would put us much closer to power builds dps wise.
Yeah… we need DC protection in this game in general, not just in raids. But that does sound awful for the ocassional DC right now
No, actually people don’t need DC protection in this game, I can guarantee you that 99% of the issues with people DC’ing is either OOM or something goes wrong with packet loss in the route between the ArenaNet servers and the persons computer. It has nothing to do with the games stability in the super majority of cases…in 3 years of playing I’ve probably DC’d less than 10 times(I don’t count when that idiot was doing the DNS attack), and of those, 2 or 3 where issues with the Log-in server crashing(maybe even 4) and one was my net going out…the rest, probably due to packet loss or(if I wanted to believe the game messages, the system losing connection).
P.S. – Keep in mind the OOM DC’s are a result of the new maps and being on a 32-bit client using a 32-bit OS, you’re just asking for trouble if you use cranked up graphics.
P.P.S. – You can take this with a grain of salt as well, since it’s technically just my opinion, though if you think about it, it makes complete sense.
I can guarantee you that 99% of the DC’s in this game are Anet’s fault. I DC’d constantly for 3 years in GW2. No other MMO ever gave me a DC, only GW2. Typically i’d DC about once an hour of play time. Been playing for almost a week on the 64bit client and I have not DC’d once. Whatever the problem is it was on their old client.
The game desperately needs some sort of DC protection.
Biggest gate is the LEY LINE MASTERY required to reach the NPC with your leftovers after you have been unlucky with the rng.
Kinda wish I’d exploited cof p1 and spiders now..although I don’t have enough mastery points anyway so I’d have been gated again.
Grind grind cap cap gate gate, welcome to ’don’t play as you want, vanilla MMO’.
Will be interesting after the rush dies down to see how many people do them once a week for the special chest then don’t bother for the rest of the week.
I’ll start counting the months until I get an ascended weapon or armor chest from anywhere other than raids (although to be honest, I don’t remember when I got the only other one…)…
This announcement could have been ’ Anet confirms raids gated behind huge exp gate, says ‘play our way whether you like it or not’ and confirms it’s to sway metrics to maximise ‘players’ numbers in HoT areas.
Hopefully drops are account bound not toon bound…especially for legendary armor collection. I wonder how many sets you can make, or whether we’re not allowed alts in this vision?
You only need the raid mastery to get to the vendor. You can still do the raid and get all the rewards. Also the vendor is if you are unlucky with drops and want to purchase ONE or two things. I.E expect to take at least 2 months to gain enough currency for a single item from the vendor. You will have long unlocked it before you have enough currency to spend.
Also raids are HoT, not tyria so CoF will do nothing for you. They are also not exploits, you can still earn xp that way if you want. But as you stated yourself, xp is easy to get, people are just silly about grinding it out instantly. the mastery points are the bigger investment.
I’m not exactly sure why you think they wouldn’t focus on HoT content? You just paid $50 for the expansion… now you are complaining that they are giving you too much stuff to do in the expansion areas?
