The goodwill of their customer base is required to successfully launch an MMO expansion. Without us the expansion launch will be an abysmal failure full of exploits, bugs, and problems. They need free large scale testing in order to succeed.

If they continue to jerk us around like this, people will simply stop participating and the expansion will have more bugs and problems than it should. They should be doing everything possible to encourage our participation. If you feel you have been mistreated as a customer then I would encourage you to not participate in the beta, or if you do, don’t provide any feedback. This is the only way any significant change will happen.

If you simply don’t care, or like the way this has been handled then show your support by playing the beta as much as possible, and providing as much feedback as possible.

Those are really your only options.

I understand the problems behind the issue are real, but the solution is so incredibly simple that i have no real sympathy.

Make your own groups.

That’s it. Start a group, label it “all welcome” and have fun. You cant change necros, and you cant change other people, that just leaves you. stop trying to join groups that don’t want you, and make your own group.

This unfortunately no longer works. I tried making a group for CM with my necro. Watched 5 other groups start and finish forming while I had not got a single member. Eventually gave up and switched to my ele. Had a full group in 15 seconds.

Given the complete lack of news about Guild Halls in HoT, I wouldn’t be surprised if they drop it from the expansion for launch, with plans for it to be added in “later”.

yeah this is seeming more and more likely. They already dropped most of the legendary weapons from launch, and have been very shifty about the number of new zones we are getting. They are removing WvW maps, also no news on finishing crafting updates, and not a peep on the “challenging group content”. I think they are very far behind schedule, and scrambling to finish something people will actually buy.

I think technically we don’t know the fate of the pact assault yet. Maybe it is a multi month journey into the jungle, and the rebuilding of LA is continuing on schedule while we wait for news of the assault. LA will finish rebuilding, and we will wonder why there has been no news from the assault. We will send a small team in (us) to kitten the progress and find it in ruins, thus beginning the expansion.

An Honest HoT Assessment

ZudetGambeous.9573

Huh? this post makes no sense. All profession changes are part of the patch that will introduce HoT, no purchase required. The only things you will need to buy the expansion for are:

1. New maps
2. New living Story
3. Guild halls
4. POSSIBLY new legendary weapons (unclear)

Everything else is included in the base game.

Where has that been stated that ALL this work Anet is doing will be a Free patch? They claim this is ALL going to be released in HoT; in every blog post, it is a new cool thing that “we are releasing in HoT.”

I’m assuming this is yet another thinly-veiled “HoT is P2W” post.

Um what? If I came across that way, that is not what I feel. This pack is going to change the core game so much that non-HoT players will be stuck in the stone age compared to where Anet is wanting to take this xpack. In no way do I think this is P2W.

I am just concerned that the direction Anet seems to be wanting to go with HoT is going to alienate the community into 2 factions where Anet will cater to the HoT faction more than not.

Because that’s how every expansion works… ever… I did forget to include revenant. You will not be able to make a revenant without buying the expansion. I don’t know of any game ever that has been different in the launch of an expansion.

New zones, stories, armor, dungeons, raids and classes are what you get from buying the expansion.

Balance, PvP maps, and mechanics changes are a free update that launches at the exact same time as the expansion. For HoT this includes specializations, trait changes, WvW maps and PvP changes.

Edit: and of course the purpose of the expansion is to make you upgrade. After HoT launches there will be no new content for players without the expansion, any future updates will evolve and change the NEW zones, not the old ones. Generally if you’ve already completed all the original content you will need to buy the expansion, or be left behind. New players can experience the original game first before upgrading.

It’s more about the size/cost or size/time ratios than anything else. I’ll assume the first 2 years of the game they weren’t working on an expansion at all.

If they release an expansion every 8-9 months for $20-30 then the size just needs to be a few new zones, a few chapters of LS, and 1 elite specialization + group content. Currently the best example of this is SWTOR.

If they release an expansion every 12-18 months for $40-50 then the size should be similar to a WoW expansion, with 12+ zones, new class, new race, 12+ dungeons, 3+ raids, new crafting profession, 20+ armor sets.

Most MMO’s seem to follow one of these two general trends. Large expansions every 1-1.5 years or smaller expansions every 9 months.

Based on the revealed content so far it seems like Anet is going for the smaller but faster expansion pace. Once we know the price we will have a better idea of what Anet thinks it is doing. Then the wait will be seeing when the next expansion is announced.

And here we have a great way of showing that people that complain about the lack of information actually only care about information that THEY are interested in.

This is big information, even if you personally don’t care about it.

In the OP it also seems rather clear that op don’t actually play WvW.

Translation: Doesn’t play WvW the way that all mighty LordKrall has declared it should be played

Either way I don’t see why this announcement displaced a specialization reveal. The WvW team clearly isn’t the same as the class mechanics team, so why didn’t we get a specialization reveal this week?

Here’s the “special” announcement:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/upgrading-world-vs-world-upgrades/

In summary:
removed a bunch of WvW abilities
Simplified WvW so you no longer need to really participate or organize, everything is now automatic.

For a majority of the Zerg blog they won’t notice the difference, outside of maybe the max supply being less. For the defenders and the people that have spend tons of gold and time upgrading, it’ll be a wonderful QoL save. Not to mention having it stop being a gold sink for the same players (outside of the cost of siege). So I like the idea of things auto upgrading. It also helps to “fix” the problem of someone starting an upgrade while under attack, wasting valuable supply, but at the same time makes it harder for attackers to drain a keeps supply by taking the camps/killing the yaks. Plus the sentry changes will give roamers/defenders more to worry about and for us to get used to for the new borderland.

A little sad about the loss of Applied Fortitude and Applied Strength, and angry about the changes to Supply Capacity just because I just hit ~830 and was finally able to dump the 300 points to get my +5. At least I’ll get to put the points into other lines.

There are a few good things, like the no gold cost, but it takes away important strategy and cooperation. It is also the final nail in the coffin of smaller servers. Any server who can’t fill all 4 maps overnight will be completely destroyed. They will now wake up to fully upgraded maxed out enemy defenses, with no hope of ever recapturing them.

100% Chill uptime?

in Necromancer

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

Sources of Chill for Necromancer:

- Any Heal Skill with Runes of Grenth
- Being hit with Runes of Grenth (Better than the Nova because it can even chill the Ranger 1500 Units away unlike Rune of Ice)
- Well of Darkness, Signet of Spite, Plague, Dagger #4 with Chilling Darkness Trait
- Focus #5
- Critting a Chilled Enemy in Reaper’s Shroud
- Reaper Shout + Elite Shout
- Spectral Grasp

For Duration you can go with:
Lingering Curse (100%)
Rune of Ice/Grenth (
30%)
Givers Weapon or Sigil of Chilling (20%)
Spectral Attunement (
50% Spectral Grasp Only)

So in the End you look at +200% on SG and +150% on every other Chill. That’s the Setup i am going to use with my Reaper, for me Chilling is not about the possible damage but more about the huge possible Duration.

EDIT: Totally forgot about the Cold Shoulder Trait which gives (+20% to Chill). So if you get a Givers Weapon, The +10% Condi Duration Sigil and the Rest i wrote, you can get +200% on generic Chill and +250% on Spectral Grasp Chill, that’s huge.

You are assuming they are going to remove the cap. Currently all conditions are capped at 100% duration increase. I haven’t heard one way or another on this yet.

Jeezus. $50 USD!? Is this a stand-alone game or an expansion??? I was expecting $30, 40 tops…

I would buy it even if it was $60 or even more !

Here you are flabbergasting about the price of an expansion for a mmo game that has NO SUB when the unnamed devil of mmo’s charges you $60 plus THE SUB and no one ever complains !!!

That to me is more outrageous than any price a.net could place on their expansion.

Well yes but those are REAL expansions, not LS bundles. Will this expansion include:

- hundreds of new recipes and a new crafting profession?
- 12-16 brand new dungeons
-3-4 Raids
-10-12 new zones
-1 new class
-2 new races
-2-3 new PvP maps/modes
- New game modes
-20+ new armor/weapon sets

Plus the Sub gets you 3-4 major game updates per year. Equivalent to multiple “feature” patches that Anet puts out.

If they include that much content in the expansion then I will gladly pay the equivalent price. If they only include the pittance of content currently revealed then I will only pay a pittance of the price.

Remember, conditions tick every 1 s, based on the games clock, not on when you apply the conditions. If you apply a 1.5s fear then you will always get 1 tick, but depending on when you apply it in relation to the game clock you may get a second tick of damage as well. The only way to guarantee a second tick is to get it OVER 2s in duration.

Looks like “Nothing, but will roll some content to the live game” was the most correct answer (although new map changes isn’t content at all). ~whee

The week is far from over.

Quite so! If you’ve been watching the last few weeks’ reveals you’ll note that the big blogs came on Thursdays. Sometimes 3rd party sites managed to release articles on Wednesday that mostly said the same things as the blogs. Saying we’re not getting a reveal this week just because Tuesday had a significant change to a map is rather premature.

Actually if you had REALLY been watching then you’d know that the past few weeks of revelas have had the theme of the reveal given on Monday or Tuesday via a post/image from Anet. This Monday/Tuesday has the reveal of LA being rebuilt, so based on the last 4 weeks this means the blog on Thursday will be related to the rebuilding of LA.

So maybe the rebuilding of LA has something to do with how we acquire guild halls. A services hub where we can go to preview and select which one we want, or to enlist npcs for features or buildings. After all, in GW1, we had to go to an NPC who then took us on a tour of available halls when we wanted to select one. So it’s not completely out there to think they have some type of services hub for the new halls

Or it could be some other aspect of something we’re getting in HoT. We don’t know as yet, but it’s highly unlikely that ‘LA is being rebuilt’ is all we’re getting as a reveal this week. I would like to believe they wouldn’t devote a whole twitch to just that.

Clearly you don’t remember the week of the “frogs”… I think Anet is very capable of making a whole twitch dedicated to just that.

This week's special surprise

ZudetGambeous.9573

I actually asked them in their Facebook if this ended up being the “surprise” they had for this week and all i got was a snarky comment from Rubi Bayer saying that they’ll only show specs when they’re ready.

That was actually me. I sign my posts with RB. Rubi signs her posts with RB2.

What you asked was whether the Lion’s Arch info was the reason there was no specs reveal. To pit these two pieces of information against each other misunderstands the game development process and the fact that we have different teams working on different features. The folks working on Lion’s Arch are not the same people we have working on profession specializations. As I said on Facebook: we release information when we’re ready to do so. If we haven’t revealed something, it’s because we’re not ready yet.

But there is only 1 blog post per week regardless of what different teams are doing, so it is safe to assume that this weeks is LA?

Except for that time when they did two for specializations and that’s just the most recent example. Yes they generally only do one per week but there have been more than one a week in the past too. You are making an illogical assumption.

So your logic is that they revealed half the info of a single thing in two separate blog posts…? How exactly does this invalidate my assumption? it seems you actually agreed with me by accident.

For the past 6 weeks the pattern of reveal has been:

Monday/Tuesday: Teaser/image/preview of reveal
Wednesday/Thursday: Blog post about reveal
Friday: Livestream about reveal

Today (Tuesday) they revealed a preview of LA being rebuilt, the clear logical conclusion is that the reveal relates to the rebuilding of LA.

100% Chill uptime?

in Necromancer

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

I’m trying to figure out a reaper condition based build that takes advantage of the new damaging chill. The problem seems to be sources of chill. Currently condition necros get chill from staff 3, DS 2, and Chill of death trait. Unfortunately a reaper build will lose out on Chill of death and DS2 chill. However we do gain the new RS chill.

So my question is, what is the best way to maximize condition damage with a reaper build? The best possibility is to take chilling darkness and use our blind field and dagger 4 to help generate chill. This of course takes the place of corruption CD reduction and removes a spot for corrosive poison cloud on our utilities, meaning no group support via weakness. Is the blind field more useful than weakness? Doesn’t seem like it since it has less than half the uptime of the weakness.

There is also the possibility of Sigil of Ice to give us ~40% chill uptime. Does this stack with sigil of earth or do they share a CD? Depending on damage it may be better DPS to have Ice over Earth.

With lingering curses, and 20% chill duration, sigil of ice and RS 5 can maintain 100% chill uptime in PvE I believe. Strategic use of epidemic should allow AoE uptime of >100% as well.

Based on the new skills and traits it would only make sense if they removed the 100% cap. Since scepter gives 100% bonus to ALL skills now and not just scepter skills it must be applied to condition duration and not the base skills. Since this would render food, runes, sigils and traits completely useless the cap must be removed or upped to 200%.

I don’t really know where you checked, but in 2013, LotRO had a total two big patches, one in March and one in May, with the Expansion launching in November.

Since then there have been a total of 4 “major” patches, all of which included so little content that it was completble in less than a week of rather casual playing.

well that’s 4 weeks more content than GW2 has received in the last 3 months. Anet is still in a pretty good position, it has only been 2.5 months since the announcement. A major feature patch in the next 2-4 weeks would put them on track. But saying we won’t get ANY content before release would be very bad for Anet imo.

It’s realistic for Anet to release content 3x slower than every other AAA MMO currently on the market? Seems like it is more realistic to expect a feature patch every 3 months in addition to an expansion every 2 years just like other MMO’s do…

In fact I don’t know of a single MMO other than GW2 that completely stopped all content to release an expansion 9 months later.

Really? 3x slower?
How many releases did WoW how in the year before the latest expansion?
How many releases have LotRO had since their last expansion?

WoW is over 10 years old, they have a large bank of content and maps to play so they don’t need to keep the same pace. If we look at the time in its lifetime similar to gw2 we can see they had: Expansion Release on January 9th 2007. In the year before that they had 6 major patches, or one every 8 weeks while they worked on the expansion.

Of course in the time between their last 2 expansions they had 5 major patches, and they are MAJOR, dwarfing anything GW2 has launched.

LotRO i’m not super familiar with but a quick google search has their last expansion releasing in November of 2013. In the year before that released 11 patches, with 4 of them being major patches.

So it looks like we should expect 3-6 major patches (new zones, new dungeons, new raids, new PvP maps) in the year before an expansion based on your examples…

Unfortunately Anet is struggling for money and players. China was a massive flop and most people have moved on from GW2. They simply don’t have the money or resources to provide content for the game anymore. They have all their eggs in the expansion basket.

Or at least that is the only reasonable explanation I can think of. Most MMO’s release major content updates every 2-3 months in ADDITION to releasing expansions… Not sure what Anet’s problem is…

People have very odd ideas of balance. Somehow it is “balanced” if 3 direct damage players burst you down in 2s, but if 3 condition damage players put 50 stacks of bleed on you that is completely “unbalanced”… logic…

Or the “logic” that you need to scale up bosses HP if you have unlimited stacks of bleed… 10 direct damage players can kill the boss in 20s, but if 10 condition damage players could do that… well we better increase their HP…

Then there is this idea that conditions aren’t meant for dungeon PvE or "meta’ PvE… yet nearly every other MMO currently being played doesn’t seem to follow this “rule” and in fact have long term condition dps as being the highest dps in the game, but worse for burst.

I figured they’d tweet out a picture of whatever the reveal was today… but no such luck so far.

Will Condi ever be viable ?

I’m not sure people understand what “viable” means. I’ll admit some hybrid builds are viable, but no pure condi build is viable currently.

If by some miracle you could maintain 25 stacks of bleed, permanent burning, and poison and 3 stacks of torment then with 25 stacks of might you are doing a maximum of 6000 dps. That is HALF of what a power based build currently does. That is in no way “viable”. GW2 is easy enough that it is DOABLE, but it is NOT VIABLE.

Conditions need to first have the cap removed and then have their damage roughly doubled in PvE by some method to be “viable”.

vi·a·ble
?v??b(?)l/
adjective
capable of working successfully; feasible.

Condi builds are viable, but they’re far from optimal in PvE.

exactly. They are currently not viable. You instantly get kicked from any group if you reveal you are a condition spec. I can not successfully complete the content with condition builds.

Hopefully the upcoming changes make them viable so I can complete the content without being told i’m not wanted.

What's next for HoT reveals?

My guess is the new “challenging group content” or the “new legendary weapons”

I would be happy with guild halls as well. Anything else would be disappointing.

Reapers will be OP 1v1 here's how:

So basically OP if everything is stacked in your favor and your opponents mouse has stopped working in a game mode not meant for 1v1 balance…? i’m not too worried lol.

New Necromancer trait line

Terror and master of terror should be merged, they are not worth a GM trait by themselves. Terror should also move to soul reaping to compete with Dhummfire, and a power based GM trait should be placed in curses so that power builds don’t have a completely worthless trait.

Let's talk Reaper builds.

This is what I have so far:

http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgQCVAVsBqg~

Sinister amulets with Rabid armor

Scepter + Staff + Undecided runes/Sigils

Consume Conditions, Corrosive Poison cloud, Blood is power, epidemic, and Chill elite

I’m still not sure on some of the traits:
Chilling Force/Decimate defenses i’m not sure about. The extra crit chance leads to extra bleeds, but more chill is always good.

Deathly Chill/Reapers Onslaught also not sure. Damaging chill is amazing, but 15% faster DS attacks means more burn. It will basically come down to the final numbers, though I’m leaning towards Deathly chill

Unyielding Blast/Soul Marks: The extra vuln in an AOE is probably worth it if I take Decimate defenses, but otherwise Soul marks gives me more chill and bleed and LF generation.

Once the numbers are finalized i’ll have a better idea. Essentially i’ll be able to get close to 100% weakness and chill uptime while maintaining high condition dps. Hopefully the new “challenging group content” makes weakness and chill viable group support.

so...that defiance bar we don't get

can it last if you exit the shroud?
if so, then, i suppose i agree

Yes, Robert confirmed it in the livestream. So yay!!

And that defiance bar probably goes to the golden child Warrior

I thought he confirmed that it stayed if you broke the armor to induce fear. I don’t think he said anything about leaving DS entirely.

Does chill work in PvE?

I tried chilling some enemies in SW today with disappointing results:

1. Thrashers- no chill: 5s cd on spin, 1500 range. with chill: 5s CD on spin 1500 range.

2. Terragriffs: no effect on CDs, purged Chill before lunge every time, so only useful if chilled while lunging.

3. Wolves: Reduced speed and reduced leap distance, no effect on CD’s. best result.

As far as I can tell chill doesn’t really work in Mordrem themed PvE which is bad news for the Reaper. If you can fast cast chill you can stop the terragriffs, but the purge will make it hard to land with long cast times.
