YAY! thank you for the acknowledgement! If you can get us into the 3rd test that’d be great, though It may be too late for many of the people here.

You need a zerker ele. The problem is everyone is playing condition revenants. even without the condition cap conditions do 50% the dps as direct damage, so you simply don’t have the dps to compete. Once you get a few ascended geared zerker warriors/eles in there I doubt it will be a problem… my zerker ele can one shot groups of 5 menders in SW.

On the forums, I talked to Rubi in-game and they are working on it. She said they will let people know when they can relog and access it.

It’s a little late for that… that second event is almost over and 90% of the world is asleep for the 3rd event. Hopefully they offer us free access to the next event whenever that is.

Next test has now started. The lack of support by the Anet staff will be noted in my various reviews on HoT.

Anet won’t even acknowledge the dozens of us who can’t get in… so nope… probably gunna end up passing on the whole expansion thanks to this fiasco.

If it was not an expansion I suppose we can go back to the fact that it was 5 years since the game was released and thus 5 years between release and first expansion as opposed to 3 years between release of GW2 and first expansion.

The game was remade from the ground up… by your logic it has been 11 years since guild wars launched so that is how long this expansion has been in the making.

30 minutes until the next test… no fix… not even an acknowledgment of the problem.

You don’t need to be signed up for the newsletter, the newsletter only gives instructions. The portal item should guarantee you access but others are having the problem you have – no beta slot. Submit a ticket ASAP if your slot is missing. You may get lucky and have it solved before the event ends. That’s the best advice I can give.

You need to be signed up to the newsletter or you won’t get access to the beta. This was stated on the website.

As far as I know this is not true of the portals, you just needed to sign up to get the information, not access. Do you have a link to this “requirement”?

OK So i talked with a GM and he told me that they dont have database of me getting the portal.. that portal item was sending automatically by the system and they can’t sending manually.

They sent me 3 manually, so that GM was lying to you. It didn’t help though, still no beta slot.

I got a final mail from support. They resent me a portal to try opening on another character…. no dice.

I have no idea what this means. There has never been an MMO that waited 5 years to launch an expansion. FF XIV: A Realm Reborn launched in August 2013… less than 2 years ago…

In fact I believe that GW2 holds the record for longest MMO to go without an expansion (that eventually got one).

First character ever. Well, I made him, then 4 others in rapid succession to save names, then I went back and remade him to my intended design. But the other 4 also all got deleted and remade later. He’s the only one with a headstart first day birthday, the others had to wait a day.

I’d think there’d be many more people without the beta slot if looting it on a newer alt nixed the slot.

Hmm maybe not then, or it is more complicated. Might have more to do with mailboxes than characters.

That sounds very odd, Zudet. I do seem to have the same account-wide mails on my alts -except- the portal invite is only on the alt that looted it. However, he’s also my “main,” my first created and most played alt, and he has the in-game letter invite.

First Alt or first character ever? It seems odd that the invite doesn’t show up on your other characters. I suspect it is a related issue somehow.

I think I found my problem but I don’t know if they will be able to fix it in time.

Somehow my first characters mailbox got decoupled from the rest of my characters. All my characters share a mailbox except for my original character, which I assume is the one linked to my account. Since I looted the portal on one of my alts the main mailbox did not receive the invitation and flag me for the beta. The alt’s mailbox got flagged instead which apparently isn’t linked to my account for some reason.

Check to make sure all your characters share a mailbox like they are supposed to!

I think I figured out the problem. I don’t know if this is the case for everyone but here is what I found.

Sending me a new beta portal did not work, I got the portal and the mail again but no beta slot. I then tried moving the portal to a different character. Same thing on my other character. I then tried it again, with my FIRST character. Got the portal from the bank without a problem… BUT my mailbox was different. I do not have the same mail items in my mailbox with my one character. All the other characters share a mailbox except my oldest character.

I suspect my beta access is somehow linked to my account which is linked to my oldest characters mailbox. This mailbox never received the invitation since I got the portal on another character.

If you are having the same problem check to make sure your first character has the same mailbox as the character you got the portal on.

Well I just randomly received another beta portal in the mail from Anet support… No reply to my ticket yet… but I assume they are trying to fix it… It doesn’t seem to have worked though, no beta slot still…

Yeah, I quickly looked at my skills (necro) and saw it had the new build all in place and so tried it out. Very powerful, though had all of those NP characters to help, Will need to test it on it’s own against an opponent.

It had reaper in place or just the new trait lines? I’d love to try out reaper…

Size is relative. Size/Price and Size/Wait is what is important.

A HoT sized expansion every 3 years is obviously unacceptable. However 2 years of that was Anet denying they needed an expansion. If they throw out a HoT sized expansion every 9 months for $20-30, similar to what SWTOR is doing then that would be very reasonable.

The size of the expansion you linked is one that comes out every 12-18 months and costs $40-50. It needs to be supplemented with significant content updates during the wait. If this is the model Anet is trying to use they are failing spectacularly.

A better solution would be to stop lfg from removing your group just because one troll keeps joining and leaving.

90% of the problems are caused by that.

The other 10% is when you are taxiing people in too often, which can be avoided by varying your messages. Instead of SW 80%, try SW 4/4 or 80% 4/4. Cycle through those and you won’t get locked out.

Just updated my ticket as well. 3 hours out now, still no email or beta slot. I only have 5 characters so it’s not like it can hide anywhere.

I tried a ticket. I got told that they can’t do anything unless I don’t have a slot once the beta starts… of course the beta is only 6 hours long and they take ~12 hours to respond to a ticket… so… I wouldn’t get your hopes up too much.

A number of us are having this problem, no word from Anet yet and Supports answer seems to be “if you qualify you will get in”.

Your best bet is to post your info in the support thread and hope someone notices us.

Your best bet is to zone out, wait 2 minutes and zone back in. You will either be placed in a different instance or the troll will have gotten bored and left. Just report them and move on. There is nothing worse in this game then the holy crusaders who think it is their duty to stop everyone from farming. They are just a different kind of religious fanatic who think they are carrying out the “will of Anet”. You can’t reason with them or argue with them.

About 7 hours left until the first test. Still no email and no beta slot has appeared in my account. I will update my ticket at the 3 hour left mark, hopefully someone at Anet can look into this.

Well I got a reply that said I should have it by the time the test starts. Of course if it doesn’t show up it will be too late since the test only 6 hours, not sure what else I can do now though.

A lot of us who got the portal haven’t received beta slots… so it seems it may not have been worth it even if you did get a portal…

Well, that thread was started by me, and it turned out I DID get the email, my client just screwed it up. And all my gw2 emails. Weird thing was, it wasn’t going to my spam folder, it was just… invisible. Still trying to figure out exactly what happened, but running a search for “guild wars 2” in my email search found it.

That being the case, I DO have a beta character slot now, appeared recently, so check that when you log in.

Still no email and no slot for me unfortunately. The email is used exclusively for GW2 so it is hard to miss when I do get it. Hopefully my ticket has more luck than my email.

But all that stuff you mentioned requires a significant amount of items/mats, especially salvaging for luck, some MF/salvaging gambles etc. Why would anyone buy that stuff from me and not just place their own buy orders? No one is that lazy. I can understand that someone who needs small amounts of something buys directly but when you are on a big project placing your own buy orders will save you ton of money.

Most people are not good with money. The thought never even crosses their mind to place a buy order. They see it, they want it, they want it now. That is the thinking of ~90% of the players. Why do you think playing the Tp works at all? If even 10% of the players in the game did what you were doing there would be no profit. It works precisely because most people are in fact that lazy.

It depends on what you mean. GW2 has very grindy open world content.

Take SW for example, there are only 5 events on the whole map. Defend forts, escort supply, kill vets, beat bosses, beat VW. The whole map is those 5 events. Completing them once is not enough to earn you anything, in fact you need to complete those same events 40-50 times to finish the achievements and get the zone skins.

I don’t know of ANY MMO that requires 40-50 completions of the same content to get all the rewards. WoW for example you get all the zone rewards by doing each quest in a zone once. No grind there, you do it, you’re done. WoW dungeons generally take 5-10 completions to get all possible rewards, but you generally don’t need them all. WoW raids take 10-12 completions to get your endgame gear which is probably the “grindiest” part of it. Compare that to GW2 where it takes ~150 dungeons runs to get all the gear from a single dungeon.

So for Open world I would not consider WoW PvE to be a grind, and I would consider their dungeons to not be a grind either. I would consider raids to be a slight grind, but SIGNIFICANTLY less than what it takes in GW2.

I have this feeling that the expansion is at least 9 months away still. There just isn’t the flow of information that i’d expect for a summer release. 9 months from now the game will be almost 4 years old with no expansion. Hard to get hyped for that… doubly so since they stopped putting out content.

If we do get a summer release then i’d be pretty excited, it just doesn’t seem feasible at this point.

There are 4952 AP’s that were previously earnable

There is a cap of 15,000 AP’s from dailies

The highest anyone can currently get is: 29,968.

That doesn’t include some festival dailies, which add ~300 more points.

HoT would have to add 11k AP’s in order for anyone to reach 40k, given an infinite amount of time (which some of the WvW AP’s take)

There has been at least one person manipulating the dye market. I suspect it is a group of people. I’ve noticed a number of dyes have been pumped up in price, and some others have been dumped recently.

I’m not sure why everyone is talking about precedents. There have been a grand total of 1 stress test and 0 beta tests so far for this expansion. Stress tests are not at all the same thing as a beta test. One is to play the content and discover bugs/exploits and test the viability of the content. The other is to cram as many people as possible into as small an area as possible and try to break a single event/server.

This is the precedent. Tons for work for odd hours and extremely limited play time. I’ve certainly learned my lesson for next time.

Unless all you do all day every day is chest farm you will eventually run out of dust. It also eats anywhere from 150-250 dust a day, it is random.
