you didn’t even use the right condition formulas…

Bleed does 225 damage with your number, not 280…

Just that mistake alone brings you from 10k dps (lol) down to 9k

Then add the fact that your 7 stacks of burning lasts what, 5 seconds and then is on CD for 25s? giving you a 20% uptime? so divide those burn numbers by 5… bringing you down to 4k sustained DPS lol

yep… 4k sustained dps for conditions using maximum potential vs 7.5k dps for auto attack… seems about right.

Idk what builds you had in mind, but short story is no team wants or needs a necro, and the ones who take a great necro player need to work a lot around him for medium results.

Guard… well I don’t play a guard so I don’t actually know what they can do… maybe someone else can fill in here.

In a team fight a necro brings nothing but damage. Damage that is slower, harder to apply and less consistent then other classes. We have no way to avoid focus fire, so any team with a necro is immediately down 1 player since there is nothing a necro can do to escape and come back with.

I’ll admit that necro can 1v1 thieves and engineers pretty well, but that does not make them below necros.

Just because tournament team doesnt run necro doesnt mean its bottom tier trash profession lol the logic. If I thought the devs could develop content at the same time as making an expansion, like every other mmo in existence, then I would say SURE!

However it is increasingly obvious that Anet is overworked, understaffed, and well behind schedule. They have pretty much everyone working on expansion related things and have abandoned normal development all together. So I find the addition of new content to be highly unlikely unless it directly relates to HoT release (WvW zone, trait changes, etc)

Sometime in the next year I suspect they will eventually upgrade jewelcrafting which would change a lot of things. The whole jewel system is fairly convoluted and I think they may do a complete overhaul which is why they shelved it. Of course that is highly speculative, and has no time frame so it isn’t really worth betting on, but I do think it will happen eventually.

Of course I also expect HoT to introduce multiple quartz nodes since we have cliffs, cities of gold, etc, that just screams quartz mining. Once HoT launches we will know for sure, but the prices will quickly adjust. I sold all my quartz when it hit 2.5s as I suspect it will come plummeting back down on HoT release.

Making exotics is a waste of money. 250 Ectos sells for a lot more than the exotic you make.

Odd I just made 300g this month buying ectos and turning them into exotics… I must be doing something wrong.

we don’t do sustained, that is the condi thief, s/s warrior or torment mesmer.burn guards also burst for example. eles, engis and rangers can do both, they can apply better than us even but they don’t corrupt or transfer, so they’re always at a disadvantage against condi necro.

Yeah I’m tired of hearing that our condition damage relies on SoS it would sound more convincing if the CD wasn’t so long and Dhuumfire was actually hot.

Dhuumfire isnt as bad as you think…although i wouldnt mind it being more effective in some way(eles and guards do 32k damage with 2 burn ticks. we could use the love). Signet of Spite is an example, i didn’t use it before the patch, i considered it cheese, now i have a signet build and i take it. doesnt change the fact that it is a condition burst skill, and OP said we apply conditions slowly. They should give back the bleed they shaved from scepter2 and staff2 though^^

ok lets say we “burst” SoS, 3s of fear and spam all our specter skills. This sequence would take ~3s to pull off and how much “burst” does it give us?

1. 3s of fear = 3 ticks of 1k dmg = 1k dps
2. SoS = 2 bleed + 2 poison = 300 dps + 200dps
3. scepter spam = 3-4 stacks of bleed = 600 dps

total “burst” = 2k dps for 4s for a total of 8k dmg

that is lower than most classes auto attack… try again.

Of course engi can burst 30k damage in 3s or 10k dps, and your so called “sustain” thief can stack 30 stacks of bleed in 5s… I have to assume you’ve either never played the game or are purposefully trolling.

Thus where all the fear comes from.That’s the fastest condi combo I know of and leads to the above numbers. I did forget the 3 stacks of torment so you can add another 200dps for a whopping 2.2k dps.

you can use dhumfire but it adds a full second to the “burst” and only adds a burning tick for 400 dps which actually lowers the overall damage since you could have swapped back out of DS and gotten another 2 stacks of bleed + poison in the same time.

Necro is very much a condition sustain class. you build up conditions, make the enemy burn all their clears, then 20-30s into the fight you “burst” the above and they are chilled, weakened, and taking 2k dps which wears them down pretty quick since you should have more health than them at that point. The only real burst necros have is against other condition classes with a condi reflect build. You can reflect 5-6k dps of conditions from real condition burst classes like thief, ele or engineer and that works quite well, but you are weaker to power builds like that.

Condi Necro runes?

+45% bleed duration translates to a direct 45% increase in DPS.

How does that work

Bleed does 160 damage every second. bleed lasts 10s. Bleed does 1600 damage total.

Add in 45% condition duration.

Bleed now lasts 15s. Bleed does 2400 damage total now = 45% increase in damage for the same number of attacks.

In practice it lets you maintain a much higher stack of bleeds, which means more dps.

This of course assumes that your conditions don’t get cleansed. Which is a great assumption in PvE. In WvW/PvP it still can work but you need to force them to burn their condition clears with things like plague sending and SoS, then load up the bleeds.

Unfortunately this means in order for necro to be viable in PvE/WvW you MUST run 40% condi food at ALL times. As soon as it drops off you are suffering a potential 40% dps loss. Basically not having food is the same has power builds having perma weakness on them.

Krait is by far the best rune currently due to the removal of the condition cap.

Undead runes even with max toughness armor give ~5% dps increase.

Is there a revenant around? Revenants have a displace skill which teleports enemies away from them; the teleported enemies have no visual effect to show that they are being affected by this skill, which makes it appear as if they were rubberbanding. Revenant is still in the beta phase, so don’t go crazy over this if revenants are indeed the source of your confusion.

That does sound like what I was experiencing. If this is indeed somehow intended then I hope they remove that skill very quickly, otherwise I will certainly be kicking any revenant from my group.

This whole weekend i’ve started to experience a very odd bug. Mobs rubberband 300-400 units in random directions repeatedly. My ping is ~60ms and all my skills, characters, and other players show no lag at all, yet mobs bounce around like rubber balls.

This is incredibly frustrating as mobs constantly move out of melee range, meaning I am spending more time chasing them around then I am actually playing. I ended up just logging out last night because I couldn’t take it anymore.

Please fix this asap.

Well now you know what necros have had to deal with for 3 years… get used to it.

My necromancer is one of my favorite toons…. and it is and always has been 100% playable because it is nowhere near as broken as a class whose claim to fame is a failed execution of manipulating conditions.

In the case of Necromancers, a couple stacks of bleed, vulnerability, or poison applied to yourself for a powerful offensive output is a more than acceptable tradeoff. Even worst case scenario…. you are running plague signet and are pulling condis off of allies…. the condi pulling only has an uptime while the signet is not on cooldown, and if the signet is not on cooldown and you have too many condis, just use the signet to get rid of them.

On revenant… using your elite skill only to have it deal more damage to you than it does to the enemy is broken.

On revenant… using a skill that transfers conditions from allies onto yourself in exchange for a resistance buff that doesn’t even work is a ticket for the fast track into downed state.

A “master” of corruption necro can kill himself in 30 seconds, while cutting his damage output in half and increasing the damage he takes.

It is very powerful… in favor of the enemy.

What does he gain by this crippling blow against him? 4 corrupted boons which will be immediately reapplied, 8 stacks of might that last almost as long as the skill cast time, and a “heal” that blinds you. Yep i’m really feeling the power lol.

Of course other classes can:

apply 25 stacks of might with 100% uptime… penalty… none.
heal themselves…. penalty…. none
use their significantly more powerful elite skills… penalty… none…

your attempt to defend necro is laughable at best, and rev is even worse off than necro if that was even possible.

I think it’s a L2P issue. Revenants have a specific role in combat, and it’s up to the player to utilize the mechanics for maximum effectiveness.

You must be a master of revenant. Teach me your ways.

I think if you gear towards Condi, you can find yourself with good sustained damage. With Anet’s Confi buff recently, it has the potential to be seriously overpowered.

Can you show us? I haven’t preordered yet but last beta I couldn’t get more than 10 stacks of torment, which was just sad…

But you seem to know how to do crazy dps, can you post your build and explain how it works? I don’t think telling people over and over that rev is great without showing them how is going to convince anyone…

Necro 4 PVE n modest in PvP?

Guard has top tier dps and survivability in the game right now. Necro is much worse in both categories.

You can make a very tanky necro, but you will sacrifice almost all of your damage potential doing so. Also since you have no blocks, invlun, of escapes every player in PvP will target you first since you are an easy kill and you will be stunlocked until you die.

For a ping pong ball I feel pretty OP. Most ping pong balls can only be white and bounce back and forth. I can turn all sorts of colors and even give people paper cuts sometimes!

As a master of death the only thing I seem to be good at is dying.

An MMO, or expansion for that matter, being “complete” means that there is nothing left to add, nothing left to improve, nothing left to change and adapt.

Not really.

We have a very clear example here: ArenaNet said they would release new Legendaries with the expansion. Later they mentioned that no, they won’t be able to add a full set of legendaries, but they will add a few at release and more “later”.

Will they? New legendaries is something they have been claiming they will add “later” to the game for quite some time now. In 2013, they said they would add (in 2013, too) a new kind of legendary gear, even. We got kitten.

So when ArenaNet releases a truncated set of legendaries, admiting they would have liked to release a full set (but didn’t really do so due to expediency), and with a vague promise that they will release the rest of the set “later” (while failing to fulfill many similar promises before)… It’s hard not to feel like HoT is going to be released in an incomplete state.

There are many other similar examples – things about which ArenaNet has said “we were going to add more of those, but not really, so we will add more at a random moment after release”. Mist Warriors, Guild Halls, even more specializations… All those remind me about the promise for periodical releases of new skills and traits (which we got once and never again).

I would go as far as to say it is unlikely we will see ANY new legendary weapons.

Last we heard they were “excited to show them to us” in a blog post that was coming “soon”… That was what, 3 months ago?

I don’t think they’ve actually made any at all yet, and they will probably get “pushed back” due to “time constraints”.

i.e. we will never see them.

It’s sad that people still fall for this. They’ve done the same thing 3 times now, yet everyone still seems to believe them…. Fool me once… Fool me 3 times?

I think the devs realized that people actually wanted to play Reaper since it sounded fun. They made sure to squash that horrible nightmare before it got released.

Now they can just ignore reaper and nerf it occasionally like they do necro, to make sure it is the worst class in every game mode.

Since the removal of the cap this is no longer true. Condition duration now directly increases condition damage.

40% condition duration = 40% more damage

Condition duration food is the most powerful food in the universe now.

Plus without the cap you need crit chance to proc runes, sigils, and condition traits for more condition stacks.

The best gear set for condition users is Condition damage/Condition Duration/Precision. Unfortunately it doesn’t exist yet so condition users are still sub-par to zerkers.

I’m pretty sure they can’t reveal anything else because they haven’t DONE anything else.

Pre-purchase was most likely released with no date and no content in order to get them enough money to actually make the expansion.

Obviously we do not have enough info on the expansion if you are assuming it will launch this year. If you assume the expansion is launching in January however it starts to look like they are right on schedule.

The new Legendaries

There may or may not be any new legendary’s. They have told us multiple times in the past that they are being added, then they simply never get mentioned again until they tell us the same thing 9 months later.

Their current announcement follows this plan. Announce magical new legendary weapons and precursors, show no pictures, give no details, tell us it fell through 9 months from now.

If you want a legendary make one of the current ones, otherwise don’t worry about it.

I encourage you all not to be disheartened by the lack of content releases. When HoT was planned, Arena Net released a projected profit increase that fell in line with a pre-purchase/release purchase of HoT. That profit projection was slated for the third quarter of business sales. The third quarter is the months of July, August, and September. I know that Anet still has a lot to reveal but have resolve that Anet will deliver of HoT.

We just have to support Anet in this time and be surprised when it does get released. If you need a break for GW2, Anet is not holding a gun to your head. Just be sure to come back and enjoy the new content.

But they already have their money and made their projected profits through pre-purchase. There is no rush or any incentive at all to actually launch the expansion, they already have the money.

I suspect a December release is pretty likely the earliest we’ll see it.

We will have acess with some new legendarys, with more coming on next releases.

What more we are receiving incomplete? There is even a rumor that we are not even taking mordremoth down, only coming in future releases.

Of course it will be released in complete. Anet is out of players, out of good will and out of money. They need the cash now.

Just look at what happened. They released a bunch of elite specs, and guild halls then asked a huge amount of money up front for the expansion. Now that they have that money we haven’t heard a single new thing about the expansion for 3 weeks and it looks like next week will be a bust as well.

Now that the Symbolic Avenger Trait has been disabled there will be a sharp drop in the success rates of the teq event.Maybe that will help speed up the much needed fix.

Or maybe it will just prove that it is still very much doable and it is simply a matter of people having to adjust to the changes?

he is stupidly overtuned. If you want to drive players away from the game then leave him as is, otherwise fix him.

What happened?

People came from the first “big” content patch in 6 months, boosted up the prices of everything… realized there was only 10 minutes of content and left again, leaving a flood of armor/weapons/mats and gems behind.

Are you implying that rich people somehow have better odds in RNG gambles? Like once you hit 1000g your rng modifier goes up or something?

That seems unlikely…

More likely is that the rich know when to stop when they are ahead and thus get richer, while the poor don’t have any economic sense so they keep gambling until they lose all their money and then complain that they are poor.

I find it curious that some groups kill him super fast while others are failing miserably.

…since i understood how that exploit works, i’m no longer surprised by those speed kills.

I don’t think it’s an exploit exactly.It was here for atleast 2+years and Anet still hasn’t done anything.I think what they only have to increase the critting spots.

I’m not talking about the crit spot. I am talking about that new guard bug.

can someone explain to me how this is a bug? Not debating here, just trying to understand, doesn’t it just 10% damage to enemies standing in the symbol?

10% for each symbol

4 symbols per guardian

20 guardians

= 800% damage increase

50k hits per auto attack are fairly simple.

This is why Teq is succeeding, not any magic strategy. They forgot to limit it to each guardian or one symbol.

Well I tried teq for the first time since the patch… and I must say… he feels like he has less HP than before not more….

Though I heard 5-6 guardians talking about how they could solo teq without the rest of us, so not sure what that is about.

New Forge Can't Promote Items?

I made one of the new account bound mystic forge conduits since I figured it’d be convenient to forge green weapons and sigils/runes without having to go back to town.

I always thought the promotion rate was ~20%. However after forging 120 green weapons and ~40 sigils I have yet to get a single rare out of this portable forge.

Is the rate much lower/0 on the portable forge as opposed to the one in LA? I don’t want to keep wasting my greens/sigils if there is no chance of getting better ones back out.

Just looking for more data at this point, please post your results from using the new portable forge if you have them.

Get rid of Crit/DD spots for Bosses

DD spots are just places where the range of cleaving melee weapons hit 2 of the bosses hit boxes. Not all classes/weapons are even capable of utilizing these spots.

Most melee cleaving weapons can hit it, pretty much no ranged weapon auto attack can utilize it, though certain ranged weapons like ele staff meteor storm can hit all 3 hit boxes with a single attack. I suspect ranger LB AOE can too.

They aren’t gimmicks, they are just an artifact of the fact that most mega bosses have more than one hit box.

Crit is just bugged currently I believe since it was just added.

Portal to maguuma, no beta access?

What about the hundreds of us who farmed the portal, showed up at the correct times and were unable to participate in the beta due to a bug preventing us from getting a beta slot?

I think it would be fair to let us into the first closed beta weekend event. I farmed a long time for that portal so I could preview the expansion and see if it was worth pre-purchasing. So far all I know is that even if you do what anet says you may not be able to access the content.

Condition Duration is out of Whack

With the removal of the condition cap, the condition duration food is now completely out of whack.

It literally increases your dps by a straight up 40%.

You need 100% food uptime to even be remotely viable in PvE.

I’m not sure what the solution is, but needing to eat food for almost half of your dps doesn’t seem like it is intended.

I suspect you are just not used to the trait changes yet and are falsely equating it with conditions.

I find that even at mega bosses like Teq, the bleeding stacks take 20-30 second to get over 100. Burning poison torment and confusion I rarely see go over 30.

I’m just not seeing this “mega damage” people are talking about from conditions.

100 stacks of sinister geared bleed = 14,000 dps
A single ele casting meteor shower on teq = 20,000 dps

Epidemic is now the highest hitting skill in the game, with these following qualifications:

1. Only in zergs of greater than 10 people
2. Only against targets that last longer than 45 seconds
3. Only against adds, does 0 damage to main targets

I suppose it is marginally useful for lane fights like VW, but it does 0 damage at most boss fights…. hardly the “hardest hitting skill in the game, full stop”

Condition Damage = Condition Damage

Unless it specifically says Condition damage it does not affect it.

Any advice for a terrormancer to beat a mesmer?

I can’t seem to get out of the stun lock. I found I have ~1s to go from full health to dead, and i’m usually stunned for all of it. Once I managed to hit DS the instant I started taking damage, but I was downed in the 1/4s delay it takes to switch over.
