Question about Draining Health

ZudetGambeous.9573

what class are you talking about? I would head over to the necro forums (assuming you are talking about necros). They can provide you a more detailed answer.

But as a brief answer, yes most of the syphoning skills are effected by healing power, but the scaling is so pathetic that no necro could possible justify it. Basically with 0 healing power you steal 20 health per hit and per crit, and with max healing power you will steal 35 or so health per hit.

Also the healing and the damage are completely separate. The damage done also scales with power, and scales a little better than the healing component.

For more specifics you’ll need to ask on the necro forum though as I don’t have those answers off hand.

Every part of the PS is an instance as far as i’m aware. They entire world can be gone and they can still send you to the instance back in time to do the PS.

The LS is a full year after the conclusion of the PS, they can’t worry about the PS or the changes will never be important or significant.

We all know what’s going to happen. There will be some epic battle spanning across multiple maps. When we finally corner scarlet and have her down to 1% health it will go something like this:

US: Your time is up Scarlet, prepare to have justice served!

What on earth has convinced you that crafting precursors will be cheaper?

Have you seen ascended crafting? That is expensive… I suspect it will take 600-700g in materials to craft a precursor. If anything, crafting will INCREASE the price of many precursors and slightly lower the most expensive ones.

If they really want to convince me that they are capable of making a living world that changes the maps forever then they will need to reduce LA to molten slag then have it turn into a new zone that slowly becomes overgrown and abandoned over the next few months. A completely new city should be started somewhere else and built up from there.

There are really only two options.

1. The living story is in fact living and makes permanent changes to the world. LA is blown up and reduced to a pile of rubble and becomes a very different zone forever.

2. The living story is not actually living, and just a few buildings are burned down and the city is repaired in a few months. LS is a failure and the game is screwed.

Ascended gear in 20 minutes and repeatable? Never. Going. To . Happen.

The original design for explorable mode dungeons was for them to take 3-4 weeks for an organized guild group in top tier gear to learn how to clear the encounter. They were supposed to be the GW2 equivalent to Hard-mode raids in WoW.

I love how people are saying that it will never happen or that Anet would never do that…

It was even in the manifesto that they would raise the level cap for every expansion. It was one of the first things we found out about the game even before beta. The level cap WILL be increased, it is just a matter of when. It’s that same brand of denial from the people who think ascended is the last gear tier even though Anet specifically said it was the first tier increase of many.

Their original design was for every time you play the dungeon you would get a different experience and it would change based on your decisions throughout the dungeon. If you managed to beat this highly dynamic and changing dungeon which had a new set of challenges every time you entered it then it would reward you with a top level piece of gear with unique and powerful looks…

It didn’t quite work out that way…

Why I've changed my mind on Ascended

ZudetGambeous.9573

Stats matter when they give a clear advantage, Ascended armor by itself not including ascended trinkets do not give a clear advantage in this game. If you can prove that if 1 player with ascended armor and another with exotics that the player will 100% beat the other player in a 1v1 with exotics Ill hear you out. Or have any numerical real world advantage outside a calculator or spread sheet id eat my words.

Do you not understand how stats work or something? If someone has 50 power more than someone else, then they are 50 power stronger. It’s not hard math.

And without context, 50 power more is just 50 power more. A meaningless number.

Right. Say it takes and average of 10 hits to kill something. Ascended zerk armor have 14 more power, 11 more precision, and 1% more crit damage. From a pool of say 2000 power (if you spec for DPS), do you think that difference will bring the average down to 9 hits? I don’t think so. Maybe it will bring the average down to 99 from 100 hits.

as shown in the math literally right above you… it would take the hits down a lot more than that… ~14% damage increase for zerkers.

2000 health 10 hits to kill so an average of 200 dmg per hit is what you are saying. 200*1.14 = 228 dmg

That lowers it all the way down to 8.77 hits from 10.

For me it was the introduction of the horrible grind and the death of explorable content.

When the game launched you could easily acquire everything you needed for anything you wanted in the game. Sure it would take a long time, but if you needed an item there was a clear path of where to find it and how to get it. Since launch those spots have been systematically destroyed until the only feasible way to obtain a certain material is to buy it from the TP. Gems→gold→TP is the only option if you have less than 10 hours a day to play. This issue seems to stem from the fact that John Smith is essentially god at Anet. Anything that he deems economically wrong is removed from the game. The end result was a game that has a great real life economy simulator that is equally as fun…

Secondly, the most fun part of the game at launch was exploring the zones, finding hidden things, finding unique looks and earning cool gear. No new zones have been added, and zones have actually been removed/changed to have less exploration since launch. The unique looks have all been improved upon and added directly to the gem store. The best part of the game for me has been removed and replaced by a gem store cash grab.

Additionally there are no expansions being made and the LS is an endless cycle of temporary content that is horribly written and is really just a checklist of achievements.

Plz let us to get ascended without crafting.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

I would be willing to concede to buying ascended gear with laurels as long as the overall price was comparable. Currently it is about 100g per piece of ascended armor. Add in the cost of crafting to 500 (another 400g spread over the 6 pieces) and that is 160g per piece.

Currently each laurel is valued around 80s, so as long as the ascended armor costs 200 laurels per piece then that is fine.

So, we're all moving to Rata Sum now?

Rata sum has always been better for crafting/tp/banking. The only reason people used LA at all was for the portals and the fact that Anet forced it to be that way with events and activities.

You don’t need Ascended armor. The stat increase over Exotics is minor. So if you’ve given up on getting these, you can still play the game as normal.

People like you are the reason wurm can’t be beaten.

Yes the stats do matter. They offer a 5-15% damage increase. That is a HUGE amount of damage when everything in this game is a dps race.

If you don’t think that much damage matters then please don’t show up to the wurm event or any timed event that is introduced from this point forward.

People like you is what makes me happy that ArenaNet hasn’t implemented gear inspection, and also has kept ‘raids’ open world!

why? if raids were instanced you and all your friends in blues could get together and do the content? oh wait… no you couldn’t because you rely on the people in ascended to carry you through the current open world content already…

It isn’t surprising that sales are up. The game is pretty much full on P2W now. If you don’t pay you will quickly fall behind other players.

Also the game still has had no competition to draw players away. Whatever report follows a few months after ESO and Wildstar release will be the one to watch for the real health of the game.

Pay to win what? So you don’t have to buy resource collectors? Do you know what P2W means?

ESO will be the flop of the year (just read every single independant review or experience the stress test betas yourself, it’s pretty bad, not an Elder scrolls game and not a real MMO experience), and Wildstar only caters to a small playerbase interested in PvP who aren’t interested in graphics. Both these games will get a huge migration of those MMO hoppers who will leave in 2-6 months, same as what happened to GW2.

GW2 is doing far better than what can be expected in a shrinking market.

I would suggest doing more research on wildstar. PvP is only a small part of that game.

As to GW2, how is it not P2W? Please point out how I can get good looking new armors in the last year that doesn’t involve the gem store? Or perhaps tell me how I can obtain watchwork sprockets next week outside of the vastly superior gem store only mining pick? Or maybe tell me how I can reasonably participate in super adventure box hard mode without the gem store only coin? Or maybe the gem store only resource packs for ascended jewelcrafting… I could go on and on, but that isn’t the purpose of this thread. I’m certainly not alone, many people see GW2 as a P2W game now, but that is just the way the market is heading, people have more money than time.

Where does Scarlet get her resources?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

I think some people are confusing story elements and gameplay elements. I realize that enemies respawn and thus there are an “infinite” amount of them, or that dungeons are repeatable so we blew up thousands of molten facilities, but those are gameplay elements.

Story elements are things like, we destroyed scarlets reason for the krait helping her, why are they still helping her? we blew up the factories that make the airships and the molten weapons, why are they still being used in later stories?

The story is supposed to progress in a logical fashion. Sure there are gameplay elements to consider, but the story itself should still be logical.

They’ve cornered themselves into a lose-lose situation.

If they don’t destroy LA completely never to return then all the hype about BIG PERMANENT changes was all just a lie.

If they do destroy LA completely never to return then their entire premise and argument that the first season of LS was slow because they had to build up all the holiday assets is also shot since everything happened in LA. They will have to rebuild all those assets, thus meaning another crappy LS season.

Pretty much any way I look at it the players are going to lose.

Crafting booster not work?

The reason it doesn’t do a whole lot is because most of the levels you gain from crafting is through discovery, not actual crafting. Discovery is already a 100% critical XP, so the booster has no effect on that. If you level only by crafting existing recipes without using discoveries then you would notice the difference, though I don’t know why anyone would do this.

So what happened to condition damage in pve?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ZudetGambeous.9573

Hello,

What happened to fixing condition damage in pve to allow more stacks per player? We had all these threads with hundreds of posts talking about them and then they disappeared. We had posts from over a year ago from Colin saying they were looking into it and working on a solution.

Does Arenanet hope they can just sweep this under the rug and we will forget? It is pretty hard to forget since condition damage was designed to be a main damage source through abilities and stats on items.

How did the current limitations of condition damage pass through quality control? If this was known about during the initial design and creation of the game, why did they knowingly design conditions the way they did throughout the game?

Can you please link the post by Colin where he said that. I went through ALL posts by Colin on this forum and can’t find anything. (method used: find a post by colin, click his name and show all posts, use ctrl+f to search the page on ‘condi’, repeat for all pages with his posts.

The reason I’m askign is that if he said something like this, he likely did not promise a fix, just that they recognise the issue and will look into it. If he did promise a fix that is totally different situation, but I fear you are fooled by sweet talk. All is in the wording.

I haven’t found the one by colin yet, but here is the most recent dev post on the issue from 11 months ago:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Comfirmed-Nothing-being-done-re-conditions/page/4#post1505370

“Actually this is not true and is something we are actively looking at. We have a number of solutions that we are talking about and when we are able to figure out which one will have the least impact on balance, performance, and testing we will put that solution in place as soon as possible.
Jon”

Edit: later in that thread he also said they were going to make objects take condition damage as well:

I’d be happy if you’d let some of my conditions work on Objects, like Burning for Example….I can understand bleed/poisoning..but if hitting something wooden, I’d think my Burn would do damage.

“This is a second problem as well that we are also addressing. Thanks for bringing it up here.
Jon”

Where does Scarlet get her resources?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

I still keep wondering why this is a problem, but the fact that the Pact seems to have more or less unlimited resources doesn’t seem to be an issue at all

For me personally I always thought there was a pretty long sense of time in the personal story. I don’t know if that is accurate or not, but the story gave me the impression of spanning multiple years. Additionally the pact has the resources of all 5 major races of tyria as well as the backing of the 3 largest organizations in tyria. It made more sense to me that they would have more to work with. Even then resources were stretched thin, many of the missions were small elite squads who had to get something done because they couldn’t spend a lot of resources.

Scarlet on the other hand seems to be on a much shorter time frame, everything seems rushed. Again maybe lore wise this isn’t the case, but that’s how it feels. Also every single one of scarlets missions/tasks involves her sending an entire army at the problem. The factions she united were all fairly small compared to the entire race they represent.

Where does Scarlet get her resources?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

This has been bugging me for a while now… every time we deliver a crushing defeat to scarlet it seems to grant her MORE resources.

Destroy all of her molten weapon facilities… UNLIMITED molten weapons for EVERYONE!!!

Destroy her aetherblade base, and cripple their leadership… Obtains a fleet of OVER 9000 AIRSHIPS!!!!

Destroy the krait prophet and shard thing and nightmare tower giving the krait no reason to follow her and depriving her of her poison source…. even MOAR krait fight for her, and UNLIMITED access to SUPER toxin that magically evolved.

Blow up a marionette that used more steel than all 5 major races could mine in their lifetime… ATTACK PLANS COMPLETE.

Where does she get this stuff? It isn’t even in the realm of possibility, and it makes our heros effort completely meaningless. Nothing we have done mattered at all up to this point.

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

the funny thing about that dominion gate on LA is that it makes no sense.

looking at maps of tyria, the only landmass on what you could consider the dominion of winds is south of kessex/east of caledon. there’s a whole sea’s worth of nothing but water separating that area and lion’s arch.

what’s more, the maps provided by the novels (including sea of sorrows, which was released post-launch) confirm that the dominion should not go as far as lion’s arch. add the fact that there’s nothing that looks like a wall behind the wizard’s tower on garrenhoff (indicating the dominion doesn’t even go that far) and you have pretty solid evidence that whatever that gate is, it’s not tied to the dominion of winds. at best it might be a small trading post walled off from non-tengu.

so yeah, i have no idea why that gate is there, but it shouldn’t be the dominion of winds.

it could be a portal to the DoW…

When scarlet attacks LA almost certainly the mystic forge will blow up. What do people think will happen when this occurs?

Seeing as it takes ~2500 rares to forge a precursor (or ~800 exotics) and there are 4-5 greatsword precursors sold per day (See John Smiths post about dusk and dawn sales). That means since launch there has been something like 5,100,000 greatswords thrown into the forge…

Do they all come out when it blows up? I’m pretty sure with that many greatswords raining down from the sky we won’t even need to fight, scarlets army will be destroyed by the great greatsword rain.

Clone Wars 2 or Why Meta Builds are for Sheep

The question is that are those requirements really needed?

It is very common that as soon as something new is in a game, the “elite” players make up some rules and requiremets and believe that they are absolutely necessary to complete it and drive away everyone who are not doing as they say.

Then almost always after a while all kinds of “naked kill”, “kill with 0 talent points!” and “20 man content 10 manned!” videos and threads start to appear. Proving that the original requirements were totally unnecessary and the only thing that really was needed was practice.

Except without those “elite” players no one would ever beat it. There wouldn’t be guides online telling you exactly where to stand, or videos showing you what to do if it wasn’t for those jerk elite players. They go in with the best gear and the best ability in order to figure out the correct strategy. Without them the rest of you “have fun” players would be in a corner dead and crying how the content was too hard because you don’t have anyone to tell you exactly what to do and where to go in order to beat the content in subpar gear.

This is much more obvious in traditional MMO’s where the skill ceiling is much higher and there is difficult content, but the same thing applies to a lesser extent in the gw2 zerg. When teq first launched it took hour and hours of coordination and everyone having max gear and max summon items and max food buffs just to beat teq with 2 seconds left. As they refined the strategy they learned where to stand and how to be more efficient so those requirements relaxed and more people could complete it. But without those elite jerks telling you how to do it you never would have beaten it in the first place.

Dungeons aren’t that bad, you probably won’t be able to get a group for Arah or the newly revamped TA path though. Groups for those dungeons only take experienced people, so if you haven’t mastered them by now you will most likely never get a group. I know i’ve been trying to get a group for an hour a day for the last month for the TA path but i’ve been kicked from every group for not having run it before.

Most of the other content in the game has been through living story, which unfortunately for you is removed after 2 weeks, so all of that is gone now.

You can jump into the current living story, which has a nice recap of the past year, and you are just in time to see the finale of the story, there are only 2 released left before the finale.

WvW just got a new map, so if that is your thing then check that out.

sPvP has gotten a number of updates, but there is still only one game mode.

Balance has gone from bad to worse in PvE, but is better in PvP. If you are doing PvE you’ll probably want either a guardian or a warrior, every other class is significantly underwhelming compared to them.

The full set of ascended armor and weapons are now available, which offer a 5-15% upgrade in damage depending on what gear you have. They need 500 in a certain crafting profession to make and require some time gated mats. expect at least a month to make the armor and weapons on top of the ~600 gold you’ll need to level and obtain mats. Also they require account bound ascended mats called Dragonite ore, Bloodstone dust, and Empyreal Fragments. You can read about the acquisition of those online somewhere.

There are two revamped boss fights as well, Teq and a new boss called the Great Jungle Wurm (in blood tide coast). Teq is done daily on the 4 biggest servers at server reset, if you aren’t on one of those servers than you will need to guest to them. The wurm can only be beaten by 1 server and 2 guilds. The guilds are not taking new members and the server has a 16 hour wait to get in, so you most likely won’t get to do the wurm. Most other servers just ignore it.

I think that pretty much summarizes the last year, have fun!

Mordremoth, the 5th wheel?

I don’t know why you don’t know about Mordremoth, but he is quite clearly in the game since launch.

1. His minions are all over the sylvari starting area. The great jungle wurm being the biggest one. I mean I have to hear that guy talk about corruption in the jungle every day to get the wurm to spawn. You fight these giant corrupted husks and vines and everything.

2. You fight his lieutenant in the dream in the sylvari tutorial. You misinterpret afterwords because you need to get shoehorned into the zhatian storyline like everyone else, but the first thing you do in the dream is fight a bunch of corrupted jungle dogs and a jungle dragon.

3. He’s mentioned in CoE a couple of times by name I believe, if you listen and read everything there.

He is certainly just as present as the other dragons in the game, the only one we really haven’t heard from is bubbles, but even his effects are seen in the krait coming to shore and more recently the kakra.

which game are you waiting on?

Wildstar and then EQN. Wildstar looks much better than I first thought, and EQN has huge promise but is very very early on right now.

Unless GW2 has some amazing changes and a full expansion I will probably leave it behind once those games launch.

25% speed increase for every class

Personally I think they should just normalize run speeds to the current 25% bonus speed. It is essentially limiting our options. 25% run speed is better than any other bonus you can get in the game because 99% of the game is spent running.

we are given 3 utility slots, but really I need to take the run speed signet to keep pace with my group so that utility slot is completely useless to me.

The only other way to get a similar bonus is with a 6 piece rune set, which is even more limiting unless you happen to run a build specifically tailored to that run set, which I don’t.

Yeah this bothered me a lot actually. People were constantly confused when someone said head green. Half the zerg would head to green and half the zerg would go to overgrowth.

This is the only viable escape mechanism that necros have, please don’t take it away.

Scarlet is corrupted by primordus

you guys do know that sylvari can not be corrupted by an elder dragon?

“The Pale Reavers are an elite scouting squad of sylvari within the Pact. They are comprised of only sylvari due to the race’s immunity to becoming Elder Dragon minions; the squad was made to exploit this. The unit was formed by Trahearne.”
source: gw2wiki and my own knowledge from the personal story

That was true during the personal story, but we are moving past that now. In the latest LS we learned that there is something in the dream that protects slyvari from a foreign influence. When scarlet went into that machine it allowed that part of her mind to be broken and that influence took control. It is quite possible scarlet is either capable of being corrupted or already has been.

Also we are only 2 updates away from the finale, I don’t think it is unreasonable to have guessed which dragon it is at this point. Just 3 updates ago almost 100% of people were convinced it was primordius, and only a few of us were saying it was the jungle dragon. Now that we have much more to go on it seems much more likely the few of us were correct.

I think either dragon will be a good choice personally, but I think the jungle dragon makes more sense.
