Unlike most of the ‘rich’ in this game 10/100 gold is not trivial; hell even paying 3-4 gold is a major deal for a new player.
*Just to clarify these changes affect new players/toons not the established level 80 elite.
That’s fine for the existing traits, but the new traits are being touted as end game horizontal progression and their price should reflect that.
Basically what they are saying is that they will continue to string us along with false promises to get us to keep spending money in the gem store.
Hopefully once they nerf the key farm they vastly improve the chest loot to compensate and make them actually worth spending money on.
WvW season 2 comes next Friday.
Then the feature update in April like you say.
Looks like another low blow for rangers. I’m starting to think Anet really does hold something against them at this point.
Faster arrows? Yeah, ok, good luck finding anyone who will use that over another trait.
It really is a kitten move. That trait should be free for all players “your arrows will actually hit things and do damage now!,” not something that you have to trait into. At absolute maximum it should be a 25-point minor trait.
Seriously, 100g per trait…even suggesting that seems ludicrous to me. Maybe 10g a trait, max.
10g? What, are we rolling in money like TP farmers now? No, 1g, maximum, and that’s only for the GM ones. The master traits should be 25s, the Adept ones 1s. If they plan on charging more than that then they’ll need to overhaul the economy to be more rewarding for those that don’t play the markets.
I hope this is a joke… you can get 10g is like 45 minutes. If it is anything less than 20g there will be no point in doing the activities since it will be faster and cheaper to just buy it from the vendor.
Master traits can be 1g, those aren’t that important, but grandmaster need to be 20g minimum or the change is completely pointless.
I would say 50g puts it at a nice price point where most people will want to go out and hunt for them, but if you are lazy you can still save up for a week and buy it.
neural calm down – its STILL early 2014
I don’t know how to tell you this but… 2014 is 25% over already…
For example, imagine having the best trait locked behind Liadri without offering an alternative.
That would be awesome. I would love if they did this!
Great – And what happens to the other, more numerous players that would hate this?
They could learn to actually play the game correctly or they would not be rewarded?
What ever happened to having skill rewarded?
I believe that the elite is moving to level 50 since I think that is where it is at in the chinese version.
But to answer your question, they are tuning down the 1-30 content to make it easier due to the lower trait points. You can see the post about it in the dev tracker.
The devs have already stated that 1-30 content will be tuned down accordingly to compensate for having less attributes at those levels. Check the dev tracker before making meaningless posts please.
I am also confused on how trait changes affect skill points… You unlock traits either with gold or through activities… no one has mentioned Skill Points anywhere as far as I can tell…
Though this may still happen if they also introduce 10+ skills in this patch all of which cost ~30 skill points. Though most people I know have 500+ skill points so I don’t see them running out.
Facilitating Friendly Play is pretty obvious to me…
1. Change all races to baby quaggans
2. Change all attacks to “blow bubbles”, “act cute”, and “fly kite/balloon”
3. EVERYONE IS FRIENDS!!!
Sprockets are still the cheapest T6 mat on the market. When they get to 30s then we can talk.
They drop at about the same frequency as other T6 mats now. From a small subset of Mobs and additionally from Home nodes and P2W picks.
Well, there is the subtle difference that you need 500 sprockets to craft a exotic insignia/inscription instead of 5 regular t6 mats.
Well I never accused Anet of being smart or planning ahead…
I suspect they will get up to 5-6s before anything is done about them, if they decide to do anything at all that is.
You guys aren’t considering the fact that they completely redid the 1-30 experience for the Chinese client. I think they might do the same thing here. So while you are complaining about zones and difficulties and such that may all change when they unveil the new 1-30 progression in the “building foundations” blog post.

art of combat,
I think that this is related with the runes and sigil changes, which I can not fit them in the other titles.
I completely forgot about those… Yeah art of combat will probably be balance changes and rune/sigil changes then.
This is a good gold sink… and who said anything about 1g?
I suspect the new high end grandmaster traits will be minimum 100g each.
with the dyes being available only in the gem store and grind increasing it smells very much like China. I do not like this one bit. If they successfully implement everything they will lose me as a customer. Screw it, there are many other MMOs that I can be playing.
Where did they say that dyes will only be in the Gemstore now?
China press release, they also said they wanted to implement here in NA/EU. It’s over on reddit somewhere if you want to see it yourself.
There will be multiple seasons. If you don’t get enough tickets this season you will need to save up for the next season.
Also if you don’t get enough for even 1 dagger you can use the upgrade method and buy the cheaper daggers and then upgrade them to the mistforged versions in mater seasons once you earn enough tickets.
This is … pretty awful.
Oh, don’t get me wrong, the free resetting of traits at any time is great. Not needing books to unlock trait levels is good too. 5 new Grandmaster traits per class? Depends on the traits, some of them may be awesome.
But the “Horizontal Progression” they’re playing with here is just nerfing what we currently have, then making us work to overcome the changes. They’re also pushing traits back to higher levels, making lower level characters weaker and slowing their leveling. This isn’t progress, people, it’s a game-wide nerf. You might feel it the least if you’re already level 80, but it’s still a huge hit to everyone’s characters.
I was under the impression that people wanted NEW SKILLS that they could go out and earn. Instead, they’ve given us a system where we have to go out and unlock the same old traits we already had. New Grandmaster traits are nice and all, but for levels 11-79, they don’t matter.
I think you missed some parts of the article…
Nothing is changing for current level 80’s. you keep all your current unlocked traits. Only new characters will have to earn them. Also we are getting new skills. Each class is getting 5 new traits, not replacements or reworks, brand new.
So we have a whole list of cryptic blog posts that explain the features we will be getting in the upcoming patch…
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/feature-packs/
So what does everyone think those titles mean?
Here they are with my guesses:
The Art of Combat: New legendary weapons? New weapon combos for classes
Critical!: Pretty sure this is the ferocity changes
A New Way to Explore the Looks of Guild Wars 2: PvE skin Locker is my guess
A Colorful Outlook: Changes to dyes?
Looking For Group?: I’m stumped on this one
Removing Restrictions: Stumped on this one too
Account-Bound: Wxp? Account bound legendary weapons? not sure what else it could be
A Solid Foundation: This one has me stumped at the moment
Facilitating Friendly Play: 3 parts… it must be huge… but I have nothing…
Facilitating Friendly Play 2
Facilitating Friendly Play 3
This is a good change. Players just steamroll low level content at the moment. This will actually mean they will have to learn how to play in the early levels and then they will quickly ramp up in power at the later levels when they already know how to play the game.
Maybe i’m reading that weird… but it sounds like we’ll be able to receive healing through a bunch of death magic traits through a rework of the line, but unholy sanctuary will just give us an additional heal in DS.
The new traits sound good… I hope they turn out as good as they sound. The list of blogs is pretty extensive, this patch might be just what the game needs.
They will obviously announce that the “feature” patch was a joke and they don’t actually plan on doing any more content.
Anet: We won’t have a carrot on the stick gear grind!
Anet: Instead we’ll just have ALL stick! we’ll string you along for years and years and never actually DO anything! Innovation!
I mean seriously… it’s been almost 2 YEARS since you said you were going to make a scavenger hunt. You could have built an entire new MMO called precursor wars 3 in this amount of time… At this point I have to assume it is just outright lies and you aren’t really working on this at all.
“We want to let you know that the ability to build your precursor will not be in our upcoming Feature Pack. The way progression and rewards work in Guild Wars 2 have changed quite a bit since we initially talked about that feature, and our main horizontal progression systems are about to get some additional updates in the upcoming feature pack. Because of that, we are looking into several ways to integrate building your precursor into our new updated reward and progression systems we’re working on, which is requiring additional development time and iteration. As always, we’ll share details on this system once it’s far enough along in production we’re ready to discuss it.” -Mark Katzbach
This is highly ridiculous.
How many times now have AreaNet lied to us? I can’t keep track anymore.
This was the number one most requested feature to be added since the launch of the game and they are still delaying it.
This feature should have been added in 2012, now we will be lucky to get by the end of 2015 if not later.
I am furious, i have every right to be furious, politicians lie less than ArenaNet.
But do not worry, instead we will get more horrible living world updates, more pointless zergs and achievement grinds that EVERYBODY hates.
Where are you seeing this? I didn’t see it in the link… It can’t possibly be true… not even Anet is that dumb…
Stomping scarlet was like pulling out a dandelion and getting the whole root too… lol
Best part of that instance, hands down. She was an evil psychotic mass murderer, let the jokes flow!
“Dye unlocks now come only from crafting and from the gem store.”
One pack is two and a half euros. A subscription is around thirteen euros, give or take a few euros depending on the game and possible discount for making a bulk purchase. So for that amount I can choose to obtain five packs (adding up to 25 common and 10 uncommon or rare) in GW2 or get full access to all items in another game for a month.
Uh-huh.
Wildstar offers 250+ account bound dyes and you only have to pay $15 a month and that includes all the features not just the dyes (such as teleport your whole party to you every 60 minutes ($15 for a single person on an 8 hour CD in GW2 China)).
You would need to play Wildstar a full year in order to spend the same amount of money just to use all the dyes in this new dye system in GW2…
This is why all the cries for “Living Story stinks” don’t make any sense.
You want an expansion? OK, sure, lets give you 3 classes, half a dozen maps, new weapons and skills and all.
Give your hardcore player a month, your casual player 6 months – and they’re bored. Anything and everything worth exploring and playing out loses its luster.
Living Story content is small, I agree. But when you have new stuff coming every few weeks, it keeps the excitement going.
Having a huge content drop and then nothing for 1-2 years is boring and unsustainable in the current MMO climate.
No one is asking for that?
People want what other MMO’s offer. Large expansions every 1.5-2 years IN ADDITION to large PERMANENT content/feature updates every 2-4 months.
Wow offers an expansion every 1.5-2 years and additional feature updates every 3-4 months.
Rift is similar.
Wildstar is going the more aggressive route of expansions + feature updates every 4 weeks.
None of those games remove the content.

I find the notion of “no content” for 3 months pretty weird, too.
Is the WvW season no content for you?
I think it’s a pretty big thing.
Is it not the exact same WvW matches we’ve had for the last 18 months but with a few achievements added for the things you already do? Did the do the commander tag overhaul? Did they add account bound Wxp? Did they change any mechanics? Did they remove biggest blob wins?
It seems to be the same thing but at the end of every week a chart ticks some points instead of resetting? Not exactly what i’d call “new content”.
That’s the problem with temporary content like the LS. Once it is gone what do you do?
I would suggest taking this time to farm world bosses and dungeons to stock up on any ascended mats you might need. Precursor crafting will probably require stacks and stacks of ascended mats.

What do you mean 10 days? There is no new content coming for 3 months…

No, the devs already push out buggy unpolished content and the feature patch needs to get here asap. The last thing we need is to waste time trying to get a stupid vendor back that we were told was going away weeks go.

My server’s full of people at all hours. Perhaps you mistook your server’s players transferring out as a sign they quit?
You’d be amazed how many people used to say this very thing in defense of TOR right until that ship disappeared beneath the waves. I’m not saying GW2 is sinking; I’m saying the “my server is full of people” anecdote doesn’t prove the opposite.
No one was as dense as TOR users. You could literally see the servers population in-game down to the exact number, and people STILL said the game wasn’t dying.
People see what they want. 70% of the GW2 servers are empty, but hey 3 servers are very full!
People who enjoy SB daily: 10,000+
People who enjoy Teq daily: 1000, maybe on weekends.
The last thing this game needs is to lose more content.
If you want to have a chance at the skin, you need to kill Teq daily.
what servers actually do that? Im on a T1 server and still havent killed him.
JQ kills him 2 times a day if you are on a US sever. 1PM and 5PM server time.
You’ll need to arrive 20 minutes early for the 1PM time slot and 90 minutes early for the 5PM slot if you want to get in.
I sold today for a nice sum of money. If they can be converted from blade shards they will plummet, if they can’t they will probably rise slowly over the next month or so.
If you dive down to where the drill crashed you can see them.
It’s too late. Most people are quitting for either D3 or ESO after today’s patch. My 500 person guild just dissolved to move to D3… Anet got tons and tons of second chances, but people are just fed up with it now.
Why are people going to quit? Because they expected that today would be a large feature patch that A-net has said over and over again that it wouldn’t be?
Because the game is stale and no one wants to wait till July for another failed attempt at balance. Anet has squandered their fortunes with this game. Real competition is coming out now. GW2 isn’t the goto game just because ’there’s nothing else to play’.
Competition is always coming out, using this as a reason is just silly. Also if you feel that way just take a break from the game for a little bit, then wait until the patch comes out. You are in no way bound to the game, you do not pay a subscription, you do not sign your time over. Free to do what ever you need to do.
But that’s the thing…. competition HASN’T been coming out. There was a huge open field since GW2’s launch.
The only major release between launch and now was WoW: Pandas. Do you remember what happened when Pandas launched? The game almost died. Population fell by 40%, and sales plummeted. The devs panicked and quickly launched fractals + ascended gear to draw players back. It mostly worked and the population went back up and stabilized.
Now the drought of games is over. D3 is coming out, then ESO, then Wildstar, then WoW. Anet needs to have a proportional response to that or we will have a repeat of Novermber 2013…
Ascended gear got introduced around 1 year after MoP and the population didn’t get affected by much at all, the game was at it’s peak at that time. MoP released 1 month after GW2 and it bearly had an effect.
D3 isn’t an MMO, ESO and Wildstar are just decent MMOs and WoW, again? There is no quality-titles to compete with GW2. If players want to give up on the game and go to play crappier games, it is thier choice and WoW have been there for 10 years, if u like the concept of it, you shouldn’t be here.
I’m not sure what timeline you are living in… but here in reality Ascended gear and fractals was a response to falling populations in the weeks after WoW: Pandas launch.
Here was the original blog post: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/ (Note the date roughly a month after Panda launch, not a year…)
Won’t be July, confirmed by ArenaNet to not be “months away”.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Opening-Chests-after-March-18th/page/2#post3757628
It’s also confirmed by Anet that there won’t be balance changes during a WvW season.
And it’s been confirmed by Anet that the patch won’t be in june…
So they lied about 1 of those 3 statements… July is a 1/3 chance that conformation 1 was the lie and not the other 2.
It’s too late. Most people are quitting for either D3 or ESO after today’s patch. My 500 person guild just dissolved to move to D3… Anet got tons and tons of second chances, but people are just fed up with it now.

I like all the ones that my character can’t use… go figure lol.
Hopefully this leads to a new zone…
the thing that annoys me the most with Anet’s whole system is not the massive delays to content but rather the fact that we get no ETA’s. If they could just give an indication as to their target month for releasing certain features I wouldn’t care how far away it was. At least i’d know. Just a heads up for X feature being aimed to be added to the game in X month. I mean come on its not asking much
They tried that… Account bound Wxp… New legendary weapons… legendary trinkets… 500 cooking… 500 jewelcrafting… precursor scavenger hunt…
All those had an ETA of 2013…. We are already 25% through 2014 and none of those things are even being hinted at as being done… the ETA would be just as meaningless as not telling us anything.
I think the Feature Patch will be on May 31st.
Allie Murdock said the patch is not in June.
They said they will not make the changes during WvW Season because that will impact the Season.
May 30th is the last day of WvW Season 2.
May 31st is not in June, so what Allie Murdock said still holds true by 1 day.
This is accurate.
Either they were lying about not making balance changes during a WvW season or the next content patch will be May 31st.
The other possibility is July 1st for the feature patch since that is not june and not during the WvW season, but that seems really far away.
There are many top tier MMORPGs coming out this year
1. EverQuest Next
2. Wildstar
3. The Elder Scrolls Online
etcDoes Guild wars 2 even stand a chance ? What do you think Arenanet should do to retaliate ?
Those games have Jumping Puzzles? No.
So Anet will counter with Super Adventure Box!
Err Wildstar has Jumping puzzles, it is an intricate part of the Explorer path actually… I guess ignorance is bliss?
I think ANet makes a lot of money on the gem store. Why offer things of value when you can get money my offering things of less value.
From a business perspective, if you can get 1 guy to buy the same item 4 times, you’re better off than if 3 people buy it once.
From a business perspective, if you can get 1 guy to buy the same item 4 times, you’re worse off than if 100 people buy it once.
I haven’t made a gem store purchase in 6 months. If they switched to an unlimited withdraw per account system I probably would have spent at least $60+ in that same time frame.
