I spent all my laurels on dyes and WvW ranks… I now have 0 laurels, and I don’t do dailies that consistently so it will take me a while to get back up to a decent amount.
The devs are moving away from alternate currencies, pretty much everything is going to be karma and gold soon. I’ll probably get back up to 40 laurels or so in order to keep myself safe if new stuff is released, but other than that i’d rather spend them and enjoy them instead of just looking at them.
It seems to me that server mergers + underflow servers would have been an easy and better solution without nearly so many issues. My guess is that the Execs and Marketing guys wouldn’t ok mergers since it sends a bad message, so we get this instead.
I guess we will have to wait and see what the next two days of details are, but this seems like an overly complicated way of just merging servers.
The amount of misunderstanding in OP is astonishing.
His complaint seems valid… perhaps it is you who has the misunderstanding?
I believe on meta events they will likely go with separate instances like the Scarlet Boss on LA, they could win much by doing it that way to avoid problems with scaling / difficulty / overflow / cheating players just for chest and player limit control.
unlikely, that is too much work for Anet. The far far more likely solution is that they will synch the events across servers like they have already done for Teq and Wurm, so that if the event is happening in one map it is also happening in all the other maps that are created within 10 minutes of the event starting.
my favorite note about megaservers:
225% players on a single map copy. so 125 (i base this on marionette fight because i forgot the actual population limit per map copy) times 2.25 = 281 plus 125 = 406 players per map copy now. sure, the number could be bigger, but 400 players per map is awesome! TEQ and the WURM might finally be accessable to the average and / or casual player now.
That’s not what it was saying.
It was saying that a map that previously had 8-10 people per server and seemed empty would now put all the players from different servers into the same map, so the population of that map would now be 30-40 people.
They didn’t change the cap on any of the maps.
Interesting… there are a lot of potential issues with this system, but no point in complaining about them until we have the full details. Overall though the idea is cool.
It is also one of the most elegant and clever ways I have seen what is essentially a server merge handled.
If you want GvG there are currently 2 options that I know about:
Quit GW2 and GvG in GW1
or
Quit GW2 and GvG in Wildstar
Both games have a rather robust GvG system.
That should read 3.5 million, not 350 million. It is interesting that they never managed to pass the 4 million mark even though they hit 3 million within 6 months of the games release.
They are only used for crafting high end ascended armor and weapons. That is pretty much their only use right now. They may add in additional uses in the future, but for now you can either craft with them, toss them, or hold onto them.
Rarity should stay the default, but the game should remember your choice.
If someone spends 200+g on special dyes then they will want to find those dyes quickly.
I suspect that after 18 months of logging 3 million+ peoples very detailed transactions it has begun to strain their system and is causing lag on the TP.
Obviously ArenaNet is taking some time off to ensure their updates are of a higher quality.
lol, man these forums are great on April fools day.
Lol nice, this was much better than the bobbleheads.
go to EoTM, you can get all your achievements there, the fights are better, the loot is better, the map is better. There is literally no reason to go into the normal WvW maps.
Than why do server blackouts work when a mass amount of people just loging off causing a full server to go to very high?
Read my quote again… I’ll bold the important part:
Here’s a real world example from Gaile on how server capacity works.
I don’t mean to dismiss your concerns, but couldn’t the same be said about a lot of things? “My friends and I wanted to go to the 6:30 showing of a popular film but it was sold out.” “We tried to book dinner reservations on Saturday, but they can’t fit us in until next week.” “The first available appointment for your doctor is next Thursday.” “The flight was booked solid.” Maybe the most apt analogy is, “I went Christmas shopping and it took me 30 minutes to find a parking space.”
I have seen the same server/world situation since Asheron’s Call (which was a long, long time ago). Servers have capacities and there’s no way (that I can think of) to get around that — it’s a hardware situation that must be accommodated, much as a telephone system has a specific limitation on the number of calls that it can handle.
Please note that GW2 world capacities are adjusted from time to time; in fact that happened quite recently. More importantly, world population changes take place daily when individual players move to a different world, when guilds switch worlds, etc.. And I don’t know of anyone who has this problem for more than a few days.
I do sympathize with those who have to wait a day or two to get the whole gang together and I hope that each of you will soon be good to go.I think the movie theater is good example when you think about “full” servers. There are only so many “seats” available at any given time. If there are 200 seats, and everyone is sitting in one, then no one else can sit. Guesting in this case would be that you’re still in the theater and not “sitting down”, but rather you’re standing off on the sides. But say someone doesn’t like the movie, and leaves. Now there are 199 seats filled, with one empty for someone new to come in.
Sigh: Blackouts are not people leaving a server. They are logging out to which seems to change the server status. A full server that does a blackout should not let anyone into even if people log off. That is not the case though. BG for example is a server at full status. People logged off causing it to go to high status which now allows other to gain entry to transfer. People are not moving account they are just logging off causing the server status to change.
Blackouts do nothing, they are just a myth because that is how it works on other MMO’s. Other people will able to get on the server because other guilds and players just happened to transfer off the world at the same time they were doing a mythical “blockout”. It drops from Very high to Full daily because people are always moving. It actually drops to Very high most often during prime time because that is when the most people are transferring, which is the opposite of what would happen if it was based on logins.
There are multiple quotes from devs who explained it was by account, I don’t know what else to tell you.
Unless they changed something, yes it is. I know you would think it’s based on people in the world in total because it’s called population.
Populations are based on Accounts that call that server home. This has not changed since day 1. Each server has a finite about of space for accounts to be housed.
Example, a server might have 25,000 slots reserved for accounts. If the server is listed as “full”, that means 25,000 slots are filled from accounts listing that server as your main, or from people who managed to transfer in to call that server their main.
The only time a “full” server has space for new accounts is if 1) the server cap is increased on Anet’s end or 2) someone transfers off.
Absolutely incorrect.
Per the official wiki: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World
“You cannot move to a world that is listed as Full. However, that status varies throughout the day and tends to drop during off-peak hours, i.e. if you are unable to transfer, try again when there are fewer people playing, e.g. early in the morning (server time) or during the work week.”
I have personally transferred to and from Jade Quarry four times using this method.
Incorrect, there is no official wiki, that is player made and currently wrong.
The devs have stated multiple times that the population is based on the number of accounts on the server not the active population. That is why every server reads as “very high” or “full” even though only the top 6 servers have any people at all on them.
Unless you are suggesting that the lowest tier server that reads “very high” and has an active population of about ~50 people is the same as TC which also reads very high and has a population of tens of thousands.
1300 replies for like 6 people… you’ll get over it on the 15th or you’ll leave, either way Anet doesn’t care.
I think the funniest things so far are the ranger reef drake pets and the jungle wurms. They both look hilarious with the giant heads.
It was funny until it made me crash every 5 minutes… not so funny anymore… is there a way to turn it off so I can stop crashing?
I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry…
I want to laugh because the concept of murderous quaggans is pretty funny…
I want to cry because those sound like things Anet would LOVE to put in the gem store
I want to cry because Tengu should really have been released by now
I want to cry because the story sounds better than anything we got in Season 1 of the LS
I guess this mostly makes me want to cry…
I’ll just come out and say it. You will NEVER get a refund for this. No where in the history of the game has gold been refunded. Additionally you can not obtain the achievements from the PvP cultural armor so you didn’t actually waste any gold and since they don’t have a method for removing your achievements they certainly won’t give you the gold back. You will not receive glory because glory has been removed and they didn’t refund anyone for that.
Your two options are to either forget about it or leave.
The only reason I can conclude some may not want increase item rewards is because the increased supply would chance lowering margins?
increasing item rewards would just make the rewards useless and valueless and we would be right back here having the same conversation.
If we assume that a match at average takes about 10 minutes, that means 10940 minutes for those tPvP matches, which is about 7,5 DAYS constant playing. I would say that is absolutely enough.
It’s ~180 hours.
Which means someone who plays a paltry 1 hour tPvP per day will get the very highest rank within 6 months.
Someone who plays 6 hours a day will get Dragon starting from a brand new account in just one month. It just went from being an object of prestige and skill (atleast that is what it was supposed to embody, judging by GW1) to just another carrot from a achievement checklist.
Seems reasonable to me. They are trying to encourage more players to go into PvP.
It is hard to advertise yourself as an E-sport when only like 0.01% of your players have ever actually PvP’d.
will there be individual mix and match pieces in future releases? Or will they all be complete sets?
We will continue to release mix and match armor skin pieces
“continue” is kind of vague… up until now I don’t think you’ve released anything but Shoulder and Glove skins… any chance we will see the rest of the armor pieces at some point?
Why is this thread still open?
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: if this thread was proclaiming the superiority of Wildstar over Guild Wars 2, this thread would be closed in a heartbeat. However, because it’s in favor of GW2, the mods have allowed it to stay open.
This thread is off-topic. Close it. Double standards OP.
I would hardly classify this post as Pro-GW2… you have about 40% of the people on here who proclaim GW2 as the second coming even though they’ve never played Wildstar, about 30% of the people saying they played wildstar and it was a good game but they don’t like the sub model, and 30% saying that wildstar crushes GW2 in every way.
I know personally I really enjoyed wildstar even in the lower levels. But holy crap, I hit level 20 last night and the first dungeon was SPECTACULAR. It was by far the best 5-man content I have ever played in an MMO and it was only the first dungeon. It was challenging, rewarding, well designed, positioning was actually important, you needed actual skill and gear.
GW 2 dungeons were considered hard at launch too. Some were nerfed quite serverely. If you think the dungeons in WS are going to stay hard, you’d be wrong.
People will complain and leave the game and in an attempt to keep them there, the devs there will do what the devs do in pretty much all games with hard content.
Because those guys that really want the hard content are actually a pretty small percentage of the player base.
Unlikely… the entire game of wildstar is built around the fact of a challenge not present in the current MMO landscape, it is specifically trying to draw in skilled players and not casual bads.
In GW2 nerfs were inevitable, the game is more casual than hello kitty online. The entire premise of the game is that you can get rewards for just hitting a single button. Wildstar is aimed at a different audience. Will it be a smaller audience? most likely, but that is what they were aiming for.

The problem as always is development time…
Just let us design and use add-ons. Players are happy to do the work for you, you just need to let them.
I could see this working for precursor crafting.
1 ascended weapon
10 vision crystals
1 gift of something
1 bloodstone
out pops a precursor. This gives people a way to earn it instead of farming gold, but still makes it take time and effort to keep the value up.
It should be that way, but it won’t because this is a F2P game.
at $700+ per legendary it is one of their key money makers. I personally know 6 people in my guild who have bought legendary weapons with a credit card.
If you want a game where you have to earn status symbols through skill and hard work then you’ll want a P2P game.
Interesting… This is pretty much what I do except with a condition necro and only on one server. I would say I pull in about 5-6g/hr that way. I never considered the multi server approach, it would make things much more efficient.
Yes conditions are pretty much worthless in both PvE and normal WvW. They are more effective in sPvP and roaming WvW.
In PvE they suck because of the condition cap, and the fact that most bosses are either immune to or remove all conditions every 5 seconds or so.
In WvW they suck because of lemongrass and poultry soup (-40% condition duration) combined with the fact that there are literally 10-20 cleanses happening every 2 seconds. This means you will never be able to stack more than 2 bleeds on someone before they are cleansed and the bleeds are removed.
Just think of it this way. A thief or a warrior can auto-attack you every second for ~2.5k dmg. In order for a condition damage build to get up to 2.5k dps they need to stack ~15 stacks of bleed on someone. If a player is dumb enough to let you get stacks that high then they probably would just commit suicide if you asked them to.
Remember the queue isn’t an actual queue, it is an estimate wait time.
It does not reflect your actual position, just a rough estimate. Position 1 is usually taken by 5-10 people at a time, so you may need to wait longer than you think.
You can’t unfortunately. The devs removed glory from PvP last update and you need glory in order to craft armor with those mats. They are useless now.
If you happened to have saved glory then you need to buy item tokens from the rank vendors. Combine a rank token, an item token, 5 arcane dust and either an arcane orb/shard/sliver in the mystic forge and it will pop out an item corresponding to your item token and rank.
You guys do realize it will take 5 AND A HALF YEARS to reach that amount right?
and it will take 10 AND A HALF YEARS to max out the monthly one…
Complaining about this is literally the most absurd thing I have ever heard…
I don’t think you can change regions without customer service. I would submit a ticket, that is your best bet.
Will new legendary weapons be coming with this patch? They were promised in 2013 and still haven’t appeared.
So I decided I would head to PvP before the big feature patch to stock up on some skins… but skins have been removed from PvP?
I won 3 solo queue arena matches but got no skin chest.
I ranked up twice but my rank chest just contained carrots and pebbles?
Have all skins been removed from PvP? Is there any way to get skins now?
When you passed out, your face hit the keyboard. While you slept your warrior won 5 consecutive tPvP tournaments.
This would be funny if it wasn’t true…
Yes. Convert as much stuff as you can to items then the rest gets deleted.
Too bad you didn’t save lots of glory or you could have converted most of it.

Will there be a way to obtain tokens to use the MF for our PvP materials now that they are being removed?
It seems kind of underhanded to encourage us to spend all our glory, remove glory gains, and then tell us if we didn’t buy tokens we are out of luck with obtaining gear in the next 2 weeks.
With this release, we are adding new runes, sigils, amulets, and traits outside of the core set. The core set is always open and available to all PvP players. New runes, sigils and amulets can be unlocked for your account with gold; new traits can be unlocked for your character for gold and skill points. These items are purchased directly from the UI. If it’s locked, simply click on it to unlock it!
That sounds like to have an actual level playing field you’ve got to pony up some gold. Isn’t that contrary to PvP design where skill rules all?
Skill and the size of your pocketbook. Welcome to F2P games.
We didn’t get retroactive rank points based on past tournaments. We didn’t get anything for our Glory Boosters. We ain’t getting anything for our PvP mats.
I see no problem here.
I see 3 problems… well the glory boosters less so, but still 2 problems.
@Rennoko:
Technically you can. You can acquire armor/weapon tokens by salvaging armor/weapons, but let’s just say that the chance of acquiring a token via this method is pretty low.
But… Won’t that process just generate more crafting materials at a rate more often than tokens, causing me to net more crafting materials and not enough tokens?
Correct. That’s why he said “technically”… The drop rate is REALLY low. Like You will have multiple STACKS of the other items for each single token you get.
A number of bad moves IMO:
- required 6x full rune set
- no more mixing amulet and jewel
- having to pay for future amulets, traits, etc.
- having to pay to use your skins(yes, you could just use a basic white item as they “suggest”)
The only good things about it are the increased rewards/PvE obtainable things in PvP and the combined daily/monthly.
At the end of the day, the changes to amulets and runes will MOST definitely kill off build diversity and once you add in having to purchase new things with gold/skillpoints, then you’re going to have a HUGE un-even playing field with new players(who are already at a disadvantage by being new).
shrug
This is truly a case of, “one step forward, two steps back” if there ever was one.
For actual PvP’ers this is probably a huge step back, but there are basically no PvP’ers so I don’t think Anet cares.
What this will do is get a huge number of PvE and WvW people to try out PvP and give them a huge numbers boost that they can later use to show how successful this patch was for PvP.
So, how is Wildstar for RPers?
Emotes? RP settings? Outfit variety and ease of change? Customization and individualization? Housing?
Lots of Emotes, still some being added even in the last patch.
Not sure on RP settings, what do you mean by that?
Outfit variety is extensive and changing outfits is free and easy with the costume system (apply any appearance skin you own to an item at any time outside of combat for free)
Customization is similar to gw2, almost identical dye system (account bound)
HUGE and VAST housing system. Too much for me to mention here, i’d suggest googling it.
Everyone in the upper mid 50’s and up will become a Dragon!
omg, i think, i just had a gamegasm!!! i reckon, ill instantly be a phonix at current rank 49…. oh god oh god oh god…. the great gear and unlocks and all sorts of…./me passes out[/quote]
The only way you’ll unlock new gear is if you stop PvP’ing and go play PvE. The rank will have no attachment to gear unlocks in this change…
It’s amusing that they first encourage us to spend all our glory, and then they tell us crafting materials will be removed. Had the latter been known prior to the former, our spending decisions may have been just a tad different.
They specifically told us to hold onto our PvP mats since they said crafting gear would be part of the new reward system… so I went ahead and spent my glory on other things…
Now they are telling us the exact opposite… I have a TON of crafting materials, and they are just going to get deleted????
I’m not in game right now to see if market has reacted, but pro-tip:
Buy all cheap exotic runes/sigils, as they may be forgable in the upcoming patch.
Low risk if near vendor price
be honest… how many low priced runes/sigils do you have listed or stored away?
I can’t imagine they will do this though… I mean some runes can be crafted for dirt cheap. This would utterly destroy the rune/sigil market.
The blog says that we should craft all our PvP crafting components into items.
How do we do this now that glory has been removed and the final components can’t be purchased anymore? Is there some temporary way to obtain item tokens so I can finish crafting my leftover materials?
