No, not really, when you consider this is more of a replacement for raid bosses than just a basic open world fight. Raids that aren’t coordinated failed. This is bigger. You should fail if not coordinated.

It’s not a Raid, it’s open world content. The fact that a large section of Sparkfly Fens is dedicated to it and the fact that people doing map completion might have to tiptoe around it means it is without a doubt open world content. It’s not the typical Group Event, true. But it’s still open world content. So I’ll ask again, why should so many hoops be jumped to clear an open world event?

Because not everything should be handed to you on a silver platter?

I think showing your /age would be more informative. Too bad there isn’t a breakdown of something like /pvpage /pveage and /wvwage. That would actually be useful, but I doubt they track that.

AP’s could work if you broke them down by PvE AP’s, PvP AP’s, and sorry you’re out of luck (WvW) AP’s.

But overall while it would be fun to see I have already learned how to sift posts pretty effectively here, I don’t really need an indicator.

This would be really cool if it happened, but it never will. When Anet says things like “change the world forever” they knock down a lighthouse, they don’t alter a whole region/race/starting zone/personal story.

New release not exciting at all

I think that video games are one of the best possible media for story telling. They have the interactive component, the visual component, the ability to insert yourself into the story and live it. They have text and speech and video. Video games imo should be the holy grail of story telling. Unfortunately they have fallen far short. The best writers just aren’t there, and they are trying to appeal to the tween boy level of story not a mature intelligent story.

Some of the story lines in SWTOR for instance were very well done. They executed the potential fairly well. Unfortunately the game had literally nothing else going for it. Even WoW had a fairly in depth and intelligent story. The presentation was lacking due to walls of text. But if you sat down, did all the quests in an area, listened to the dialog and read the text the story itself was fairly continuous, and compelling. Wrath of the lich king especially continue the story from the original game and did it very well. Cata told an overall story but also seeded in other great stories such as a full indiana jones movie.

GW2 on the other hand started off strong with the personal story and then fell flat and never recovered. Scarlet has not helped matters. The story isn’t believable and the pace is far to slow to hold interest. Scarlets back story would have made a pretty decent opening act imo, if it was done ingame (not in a blog) and was a single release. The alliances were almost all absurd and nonsensical and greatly detracted from the story.

There is a reason we wait until the entire book is done before buying and reading it. People lose interest. Even TV has figured that out, seasons are being released all at once because people lose interest half way through or stop watching when they have to wait 3months just to figure out one plot point.

Does it look like an attractive update?

Scarlet is testing her robot so she can prepare for a fight with Primordus. Her five alliances are to handle Primordus’ minions, and I’m sure this giant robot has something to do with confronting the dragon itself. Basically an alliance with the power of the Pact (which killed Zhaitan), if not greater. The mysterious probes all across Tyria are probably to monitor Primordus’ movement. If this is true, it’s pretty interesting.

That actually makes a lot of sense… I had no idea what she was going to use a robot that big for… but they have a lot of story and fixing to do before I would believe that. I mean her whole campaign has been to kill all the people of Tyria, why would she care about the dragon?

Sounds like it could possibly be dragon related then! O.O

Sounds like it is almost certainly NOT dragon related. Pretty much every single post is begging for a dragon to keep people interested and to make the game worth playing.

You know what one in every 20,000-30,000 people is saying….

That scarlet will return next season…

I honestly cannot understand why people think its so far fetched for Anet to release now zones / contents / races!

why the skeptism, they’ve said they’re going to do it from day one.

what are people skeptical about? that they dont have the know how? ability? motivation? I just dont get it

It’s the same story they have been preaching about forever.

“Nothing is off the table!” “Wait till next year!!” “Wait til you see our next patch!!” “You won’t believe what we have in store for you!!” “We have huge big giant great plans!!”

Words are great and all, but it’s past time to just put the stuff in the game and quit hyping it.

pretty much this. They are parroting the EXACT SAME phrases that they have been using for over 18 months.

I mean seriously… 18 months into the game and you STILL don’t know how you want to deliver expansion content? Most games have launched an expansion by this time.

And there is always some “huge” feature or “awesome” patch JUST on the horizon… well i’ve been waiting a year and a half and I have yet to see any of this awesome story or huge features. Just a bunch of small QoL stuff.

Wait… did they just casually announced new professions and new PvP game modes in a random interview, just like that ? o_o
Their stance about that used to be something along the lines of “no way” until just now (and on new professions I agreed that it would be a huge balancing mess).

wow.

No they have been using that same line, word for word since before launch. I can quote it without even looking at it by now.

“We can deliver updates and features traditionally associated with an expansion through the living story method or through a traditional boxed expansion. We have not yet decided which path to take in delivering this content, but some day it will happen”

Of course they have been saying that for 18+ months now and we have yet to get a single expansion feature… so i’d take it with the unending ocean’s worth of salt.

WvW ranks
Guild missions (maybe? don’t remember when it was added)
Ascended weapons and armor crafting
Teq fight revamp
Twilight arbor path 4 revamp
AC dungeon revamp
new PvP maps
Lots of Living Story, we are almost to the end of season one, next update is the 21st.

I’m sure i’m missing some stuff. You mentioned MF gear, that is now account bound and is earned through salvaging blues and greens.

Something that’s been said before, and Colin Johanson said again in the linked interview:

“We have a couple of really big Guild Wars projects cooking in the background.”

We’ve been sitting at the table for a while, and we’ve had our fill of complimentary bread. It’s time to tell the cooks we’re ready to feast on something more substantive. It’s time to tell the cooks we’re ready to be served whatever it is they’ve been cooking on the back burner. Wait too long, keep it simmering on the back burner too long with promises that we’ll get to eat soon enough, and your hungry customers just might go to one of the soon-to-be-opening restaurants down the street.

When he first said this at launch I was like: AWESOME this game is going to kill every other MMO ever.

When he said it again 6 months later I was like: These things must be HUGE if they are taking so long, I can’t wait!

When he said it again at the 1 year anniversary I was like: You keep saying this but it never seems to happen… what’s the deal?

When he said it again now at the 1.5 year mark I am like: Bull kitten, i’m sure it will poop unicorns and rain bunnies soon too. You had your chance, the lies are just ticking me off now.

Launch updates that were cooking and got released – WvW ranks, Breakout events, Currency Wallet

0.5 year updates that were cooking and got released – Player choice of design – Cutthroat politics release, Tequatl 2.0, (Thaumanova Fractal)

Year 1 updates that were cooking and got released – Gold in PvP, new maps, Ascended crafting, upcoming LS content

It’s all there…just the player visibility into which features applied where is vague. Not to mention most players here seem to think every last word of Anet is a promise written in blood to be carried out indefinitely. If something must change, they’ll change it. That’s why they don’t reveal specific projects, because the fragility of software design can cause any number of things to happen that would either delay said project or make it unreasonable to continue pursuit (budget, technical restraints, time, etc…)

Not a single one of those is a big feature though… half of those could be coded while drunk on your weekend off. None of them are even a sliver of an expansion feature that we keep getting told are coming.

If that’s the list of big exciting features then this game is in trouble.

I think it is good that they are separating the story and feature patches from now on. Hopefully this means we get more story in our story and more features out of our feature patches. Before they both seem half baked, but I think we might get better more complete stories and more well thought out features if they separate them.

We will have to wait and see I guess. First feature patch is in March, so I will wait until then at the very least.

ZudetGambeous.9573

sigh… all this hype about the final four releases, fist patch back from a long break and what do we get? Two boring world bosses that will either be to hard and abandoned like the new Tequatl (the most poorly designed epic failure in ArenaNet history) or something like the KarKa Queen who is easy yet no body gives a kitten about it because of its location and effort involved to spawn it.

I honestly was expecting something good in these final four releases, did they learn nothing from the epic train wreck that was Tequatl 2.0?

Transfer to JQ

Teq is downed 3 times a day, and kakra is downed 3-4 times a day. After reset JQ has 3-4 overflows that all down Teq. (you will need to show up an hour before spawn to get a spot in a competent overflow)

I agree they aren’t the best design, especially for small servers, but they are done daily if you are actually looking to do them and not just complain. Hopefully this new boss scales better so we can do it with 20 people or 200.

I will say that even though I’m not thrilled for another Teq, the story in this update seems to be moving in the right direction.

We will finish out the new destiny’s edge with an Asura character, we will theoretically learn what drove Scarlet to her apparent insanity (at least the name of the patch “Origins of Madness” seems to imply that), and we will hopefully start to see Scarlet’s grand scheme in all this chaos.

And if all this concludes in a new dragon I’ll say it was worth all the torture.

Another thing that has me a wondering a little…. Why add a second world boss to Bloodtide Coast? There are other maps that could use a permanent addition of a world boss.

I got the impression from the article that they’re also adding stuff under Bloodtide Coast. Anyone else get that feeling from what was written?

You can make a zone a lot bigger by getting vertical and add tons of new content while you’re at it.

“the creature’s underground structure is so huge that it spans the entire zone”

I had a similar feeling from that line….

I thought so too, but after re-reading it that is not what it is talking about.

The Wurm boss has 3 heads, each spawns in a different part of the map. You need to have 3 different zergs killing all three heads simultaneously. You almost certainly have to kill them all within a minute or so of each other or the head respawns somewhere else. Basically it is saying the heads can come up anywhere in the zone.

It is certainly possible that we get a huge underground zone, but i’d put the odds at 10,000 to 1 that it is the randomly spawning heads it is talking about.

I like the idea of a new world boss… but a re-skinned version of Wurm isn’t all that thrilling to me. Looked like there might be some more mechanics which is good at least.

The giant watchknight looked fun.

Who was supposed to be speaking in that video? I’m hoping it was a dragon that is guiding Scarlet. This LS will only be a success imo if it ends with a new elder dragon.

Gemstore update - dyes, nodes, food extenders

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

If the food booster was permanent I would buy it. But as it is now, it is only worth it for foods that are 50s+, which is pretty much none of them.

Dyes are always nice. I wish they would add a few obtainable in-game though. We haven’t had any new dyes introduced in the actual game. they all go straight to the gem store.

Ore pack is convenience, though I suspect since this one is titled “basic” that there will be an advanced and supreme pack, which will give you access to all 6 tiers of ore eventually. The Ori one may be worth it when its released.

Bolt of damask to drop in price?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

Demand will fall in a few months, which will cause the price of the mats, particularly silk and linen to fall in price which will lead to a lower crafting cost which will lead to a lower price.

Right now demand is pretty steady so the price will remain the same for a while longer. Most people only make one set of armor though and once they are done with that set they will sell their Damask (at least some of them). As more sellers enter the market it means there is also less demand. More sellers + Less demand = lower prices.

My prediction is it settles at around 8g in 3 months time.

The fact that people are STILL falling for this 4 months later means Anet is perfectly happy to keep doing it.

I stopped spending money on this game the moment it was announced. The fact that a 9 ticket weapon will on average cost you $600 in keys is somehow considered acceptable is just crazy, imo. Clearly i’m getting too old for MMO’s.

Question 1: What happened to the human gods of Tyria and will they come back?

Question 2: Are there any plans to put more lore into the LS releases? Getting it in game is much more immersive than reading short stories on the website. The Scarlet story arc has been very sparse lore wise, sometimes amounting to only 1 or 2 lines of lore in a whole release.

Question 3: Have any solutions or plans been made to show the world evolving and becoming living? Zhaitian has been dead for over a year and yet there is no visible difference or change in the world. Shouldn’t other dragons forces be moving in and taking over? The number of new players has got to be pretty small at this point compared to vet players. The instances can certainly stay the same for personal story reasons, but the world itself really needs to move on.

If you are on TC, JQ, BG, or SoR then the game is doing great.

There are 2-3 mid tier servers where the game is doing ok.

The game is dead and empty on pretty much all the other servers.

So take that however you want. Personally I think the game is doing ok, but will not fare well once new MMO’s launch without something big to hold players.

Defiant is bad design

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

Everyone knows defiant is bad, that is not the issue. The issue is, how does spending significant time and money to fix this problem bring in money to the gem store?

Unless you can make a compelling argument how this will make people playing the game spend more in the gem store it will never be fixed.

Take culling vs condition damage:

Culling, made everyone’s WvW experience bad. People couldn’t see others armor or finishers so people didn’t bother buying expensive gem store armor/finishers since no one could see them. Culling got fixed.

Condition damage. Affects everyone, but does not really change anything for the gem store. Who cares if people aren’t effective or useful, they can spend money in the gem store to buy trait resetters. Condition damage has not been fixed.

You need to argue about how it will make Anet money, the gameplay aspect doesn’t really factor into it. Also “it make more people buy the game” is not a valid argument in Anet’s eyes. No one is staying away just because of defiant or condition damage.

I’ve guested to other “high pop” servers and they are nothing like JQ. Went on during prime time and there were like 2 people in LA and no responses in any other zone I tried.

They do something weird with the pop numbers, because many of the “high” pop servers are barren and empty.

imo you can never have too many ectos. I keep 3 stacks around just in case. Precursor crafting, ascended armor, ascended runes or infusions. No matter what they introduce it will almost certainly use ectos and possibly in large quantities, and they hold their value.

People are probably trying to up their capital before the next patch, there are those crucial 15-20 minutes where you can make a killing if you have the capital and the rapid clicking skills.

[PvE] Revising the "DPS Meta"

in Profession Balance

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

The problem will continue until they add the trinity back into the game and mechanics. It was a successful model for a reason. It doesn’t need to be tank/healer/dps. It can work equally as well as DPS/Support/Debuff.

But if everyone is the same then the one with the highest dps will always be more desirable because that is the only role.

Nerf zerker? Really?

in Profession Balance

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

They need to redo all the gear. The scaling was broken but happened to be somewhat acceptable for exotics. The introduction of ascended gear just exasperated the issue that was already there.

Zerker gear gives +17% dmg when upgraded fully. The next best gear only gives a ~10% increase. The best condition damage set only gives a 5.1% increase.

Gear scaling needs to be completely reworked. Anything less than that will just lead to more problems.

The game relies too much in the TP...

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

This thread has gotten very off topic, probably because the truth is not very fun to talk about.

The point is that the game uses the TP too much, not that there is anything wrong or inefficient about the TP. If you want to talk about the efficiency of the TP then make a thread to do so. The problem is that you can’t reasonably get what you want without the TP. In other games if you want to craft something you can go farm for a week or two for the items you need. To do the same thing in GW2 you either need 6 months of 8 hours a day farming, or 10 minutes on the TP.

If you want top tier items in other games you have to overcome a series of quests, participate in difficult content, or raid. In GW2 if you want top tier items you need to farm gold for a 1000 hours and then buy the item off the TP.

Want to be a commander in WvW? Farm gold, or play the TP.

Want to get that rare skin in the gem store? Farm gold, or play the TP.

Want to get a legendary weapons? Farm gold, AND play the TP.

The problem isn’t that the TP isn’t working or that it is a poor model, the problem is that every aspect of the game now requires you to farm gold and use the TP. You can’t reasonably play the game to get your goals now, you need to just farm gold and buy them off the TP.

In the first few months of the game you could reasonably find farming spots and collect the mats you needed for a legendary or rare skin. Each mat had a different location, and it took a week or two of farming for each mat. Doing that now would take 100x longer minimum.

We just wanted to respond to the image that has been data-mined from the Edge of the Mists testing branch.

This is a testing branch. We conduct internal experiments for various territories on our testing branches. This particular experiment is not being tested for the West.

As always, keep in mind that we test a lot more than we ship, so data-mining is no guarantee of anything. If we have announcements to make about future content, we’ll make them through the usual official channels.

Well that is encouraging news. Hopefully this thread makes it known that this idea is NOT ok for the west, EVER.

The poster of this has very reliably brought us datamined info for the last 9+ months. Almost 100% of what he has posted has been implemented into the game. The only thing I haven’t seen implemented that he has found, is precursor crafting, which we know is coming.

This is happening, and it shouldn’t be a big surprise to anyone. Revenue has been down for the last 3 quarters in a row. The game is sinking fast due to the failure that was Living Story and the absurd amount of grinding. NCSoft wants to start promoting wildstar in a big way, and that means it’s time to squeeze out every last penny they can from GW2 before moving on.

20 tiers of VIP membership though, lol that’s so sad it’s almost funny.

Oh well, EQN can’t come soon enough.

Is there any timeline to the changes we are discussing? The only other suggestion I have seen that the devs said they would implement was a precursor scavenger hunt. It’s been 14 months and we haven’t even heard a discussion on its final form.

If these changes are 14+ months off then they really aren’t worth it in my opinion as the people making them won’t be here by then in all likelihood.

I know they can make good LS content, I thoroughly enjoyed bazaar of the four winds. But for some reason they don’t. LS needs more new zones, more permanent content, and most importantly, actual GW2 lore with deep integrated story telling.

I feel confident that we as a community has presented these complaints, the question is will they be implemented for chapter 2 of the story? They said it takes ~4 months for any changes to make it through the pipeline, and it is approaching 6 months since they said our complaints were heard.

They need to start off big and then go bigger with chapter 2 or I fear for the future of this game.

semi-off topic: Has anyone mapped out the locations of the “do not touch” things? Are they just random, or do they form a pattern?

The game relies too much in the TP...

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

I think the TP is a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself.

The root of the issue is that there is no need for anything other than gold. You can buy >99% of anything you could ever want in this game. Literally the only thing you can’t buy with gold are vision crystals. This is the core problem.

We should be rewarding skill, challenges, and content, not gold farming. The TP is functioning just as it is supposed to. It helps sink gold, get people materials for crafting, etc. The problem is there is no reason to do anything else buy either farm gold or play the TP. The focus of the game should be achievement and skill, not gold farming, and that is the real issue people are upset with.

Leave the TP alone, fix the game.

Well that does seem to point towards Promridus… still doesn’t make much sense to me…

Why would a fire dragon choose a grass person for his work? Especially since it is the jungle dragon that is occupying the dream that caused Scarlet to go crazy.

But is has been 250 years since we killed his champion and at the time we were led to believe that was the end of it. Only we as the players (out of game) knew there was a dragon stirring, the characters in game never saw the dragon, just the champion that we killed. The dwarves were fighting the destroyers and they kept them underground for 200 years and most people had forgotten by then. So it makes sense except for the Scarlet part, but no surprise there.

Suggestion forum was where threads went to die. I don’t think the devs even knew about it. It will be much better for the suggestions to be posted in their own categories so the correct dev will actually see it.

500 gems for the new Mask

It’s novelty. Don’t buy it if you don’t need it.

lol of course i didn’t buy it XD
I just wanna state the reason behind why i don’t feel like buying it, and how it will be more reasonable to put better art for 500 (which is quite a price)

You may not like it, but what of the person who bought two of them? If they felt it was worth paying 500 Gems each, then it’s reasonable.

Just because rich people can afford something doesn’t make it reasonable.

Anet has a monopoly on their items so they can charge absurd prices and people are forced to either pay them or go without. This is of course illegal in the real world.

If I owned every chicken in the world I could charge $100 for a box of eggs and rich people would surely buy it because it is a “luxury” item and since I own them all they have no choice but to buy it from me. It doesn’t make it reasonable or right though.

CDI- Character Progression-Horizontal

in CDI

Well I haven’t posted in this thread yet and it is already 45 pages long so I haven’t read any of it… but here is my opinion.

Horizontal progression will never happen as long as gold reigns supreme. Everything in this game can be obtained just by having enough gold. No matter what you add right now the progression part is lost because gold is so abundant and you can just buy your way past the barriers. Before any other changes are made gold needs to re significantly devalued.

This issue of course goes much deeper to the fact that there are no loot tables or rewards in this game, only crafting materials. This means you never have to beat content, you never have to organize a group and you never need to achieve anything. You just need to grind gold until you can buy the mats you need to craft the thing you are looking for.

This needs to be eliminated and then you can add in unique, skill based challenge related rewards. This can apply to both horizontal and vertical progression, but it needs to be done either way. Legendary weapons used to show you had mastered the game, now they just show that you saved up 1000g.

We need less dependence on gold and more dependence on team work, skill and challenges.

Until this is done nothing else matters because regardless of how you implement it it will quickly be bypassed and done by gold farmers. Farming gold currently gets you basically unlimited “skill” points, and unlimited gold. Karma isn’t far behind. If you use any of those currencies then there is no progression, just more grind.

SAB 2 was awful, probably the worst patch so far in this game. We need more Guild Wars in our GW2, not less.

Scarlet as a champion of Primordus

in Lore

Why I can see why Anet would do that (they are crazy like that), it makes no sense to me that the fire dragon would use a plant person as a champion… like less than 0 sense.

It would make much much more sense for her to be the champion of the jungle dragon imo. Especially because we know one of his champions was already in the dream based on the plant starting area.

Mythbusters: Precursors

Myth #3:There is no particular recipe that gives higher chance of a precussor from Mystic Toilet.

This is not a myth this is fact. You get a random named exotic when you get the upgraded precursor chance. The more named exotics a weapon has the lower the chance of a precursor. Additionally greatswords have an inherent 2x chance as other weapons since there are two possible precursors.

I think Foci recipes have the lowest chance since there are so many named ones, where as greatswords and maces have a higher chance. Of course the amount of data needed to confirm this would be staggering.

So Myth: the type of weapon you are going for doesn’t effect your chance at a precursor.

Gw2 says they have 460k Concurrent players

The 460k number was launch week. They released that number the week after launch. No game in the history of MMO’s (except WoW) has ever had a bigger number after launch. Whatever the number is now it will be a small fraction of that figure, even if the game is doing well.

Also server populations are meaningless. The population is based on accounts on the server, not people playing, and they can fluidly change the numbers as they please. There are servers like JQ which are teeming with people, and other servers that have 1-2 people in LA at peak playing times and they both read “very high”. In reality there needs to be a server merge but I doubt that will happen.
