As a necro I laugh at thieves. They are so cute trying to kill me.
The best defense against a thief is to just stand there while sitting in your AOE. With a full stack of 5 marks I can kill a thief within 3 seconds of him trying to attack me.
And the fact that people voted for it as second most important topic to talk about in PVE speaks for fact that there are many unsatisfied people. Even with fact that people usualy come to forum if they are unsatisfied.
I found itFYI if we go with the next topics from the initial call for topics threads (Global) then they are as follows:
PVE: Ascended Gear
PvP: Rewards and Progression
WvW: Skill LagThese are all pretty focused topics which means we will be able to enter into the discussions more readily in terms of time. The bigger the topic the more divergent the discussions and this makes it harder for us to give them our full attention.
Chris
Now there runs WvW topic about about comander system, becouse they thought WvW topic had less developer atention and discussion about skill lag cant change anything now becouse it is more complicated problem, as far as i know. After it Ascended discussion should came if there will be PVE and PVP discussion at same time.
Well actually the number one PvE issue was the 2 week pace of content updates. But they said that was non-negotiable and moved onto the second most asked for thing.
I wish you could send them to me… I have enough dust and ore to make 10 sets of armor and not enough stars to even make a single piece…
…
1.New traits
2.New skills
3.Crafting to 500 for armor
4.Ascended armor
5. Precursor crafting (announced to be delayed)
6. New legendary weapons (announced to be delayed)
7. New PvP game modes (announced to be in the works after rewards update)
8. Legendary weapons in PvP (announced to be in the works in the next few months)Congrats, All but 4 things made it in, and the 4 things that aren’t going to make it have been updated or elaborated on. Thank you devs for keeping us up to date as well as managing to get almost everything in. Obviously I was skeptical, but you managed to do it, so thank you.
So it’s practically 50% completion. #5 and #6 didn’t make it, so it’s not really elaboration at all, since the only detail we got is “nope, not this year”. You can hardly call that “elaboration”. And #5 been on their “list” second time in a row this year and they didn’t deliver.
Now #1 and #2 are hardly anything close to what they said they would do. #2 (new skills) that’s 2 healing skills and… Nope that’s it. #1 New Traits… Wait… What new traits? They’re the same old traits we had, just rebalanced. And rebalancing hardly counts as “new traits” since it’s being done every few months.
So aside from rewards from dungeons and champs and crafting ascended items, and a whole two new skills, we got the list down to maybe… 35% complete I’d say.
Now I’m not hating on Anet for not delivering. But the things people were the most excited about was omitted once again.
This was really just the updated list since last patch. I have posted similar lists for the past 3-4 updates. The list started a year ago with about 30 items on it. Those have slowly been added until we were down to these final few. There are actually 9 new healing skills, not 2, so it is at least a good start on the new skills, and they seem to be picking up pace there.
Traits I’ll admit isn’t very thrilling, technically they are “new” since they are completely reworked with different functionality. But it is only a small subset, and they never actually added new ones just replaced some.
I will say it is fairly sad that we still don’t have precursor crafting. It’s been almost 13 months since they first said they were going to implement a new system… this better be one heck of a system… If it really takes them 13 months to implement a new MF recipe then I suspect a lot of people will be mad.
The PvP changes are coming, the new blog post details them pretty nicely, we will see how long they take. I would have liked them this year, but at least they provided a real update on it.
Well I suppose it is only fair that direct damage users get to feel how condition users feel all the time.
I would modify it and say that no more than 5k dmg per second from all sources. That is the current cap on condition damage, so makes sense to cap it the same for direct damage. Any damage over the 5k mark will be lost and the enemy will gain an immunity buff for 1s upon reaching the limit.
Just as a heads up to people, there will not be a patch on the 24th.
I got this response on twitter from Rubi:
@GuildWars2 https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/lwd/A-very-Merry-Wintersday-Topic/first#post3318279 … Brings up a good question: Will there still be a patch on Dec 24th? Its Christmas week so I hope not 1/2
Guild Wars 2 ?@GuildWars2 2m
There will not be. Thanks for the wish for a holiday break for us!
~RB2 #GW2
I posted as a new thread in this forum and in a thread in the Living Story Discussion forum.
I’m glad they get a break. I do wonder when the next patch will be though… the following week? or not until the week after?
There is only 1 patch left before the end of the year. We are still missing the following that was supposed to be implemented before the end of the year:
1. New traits
2. New skills
3. Crafting to 500 for armor
4. Ascended armor
5. Precursor crafting (announced to be delayed)
6. New legendary weapons (announced to be delayed)
7. New PvP game modes (announced to be in the works after rewards update)
8. Legendary weapons in PvP (announced to be in the works in the next few months)
Congrats, All but 4 things made it in, and the 4 things that aren’t going to make it have been updated or elaborated on. Thank you devs for keeping us up to date as well as managing to get almost everything in. Obviously I was skeptical, but you managed to do it, so thank you.
I look forward to the 2014 roadmap.
Builds will rise and fall, but celestial gear will always be equally as bad no matter what your build. So the safest bet is to build a whole set of ascended celestial gear. Then no matter what happens to your build your gear will still be just as effective.
That’s understandable, but it didn’t really answe the question I was asking. That said, I may have asked incorrectly…
What I meant to ask was that if a warrior and a thief casued bleeding on a mob, does my necro’s condi dmg affect it the same way as if my necro had applied the stacks of bleeding, or do the bleeds tick the same regardless of whether I applied them or someone else?
Everyone has their conditions calculated separately. If you apply 10 bleeds they will all tick using your condition damage as the number. If a thief then applies another 10 bleeds they will tick for his condition amount while your still tick for your condition amount.
It gets more complicated after 25 because that is the cap. After you hit 25, any new bleeds will not register. So if the thief (with 0 condition damage) applies 10 stacks of bleed to the target, then you (with 700 condition damage) applied 25 stacks of bleed to the target (after the thief) then end result will be 15 stacks of bleed ticking with 700 condition damage and 10 stacks of bleed ticking with 0 condition damage. Most of your damage will simply be ignored.
This is why people don’t usually use condition builds because their damage is literally overwritten and since many power builds apply conditions even though they don’t have condition damage they will still override your conditions and make you do almost 0 damage to the target.
Based on what I consider an expansion I would say not even close… let’s look at it bit by bit:
1. At least 1 new class (nope)
2. At least 1 new race (nope)
3. 8-10 new zones (1 half complete zone)
4. ~500 new quests (I’ll say we are at about half that if you count all the LS achivements as “quests” which is quite a stretch)
5. 3-4 new “features” (Guild missions, fractals, revamped dailies, we are good here)
6. 3-4 new PvP maps (good here too)
7. 10-12 new dungeons (only 3, 2 were removed and 1 replaced a dungeon path, so net 0)
8. 3-4 new raids with 8-12 bosses each (Teq I guess? not even close here though)
9. Many QoL changes (Wallet, achievement revamp, a few other misc things, I’ll call this fulfilled)
10. Multiple new armor and weapon sets (outside of the gem store which we have to pay for we have gotten 0 full armor sets and 3-4 new weapon sets, good on the weapons just no on the armor)
Things that should have been in at launch I will not count (lfg tool, competitive PvP, wvw progression) There is no excuse for not launching with those things in 2012.
Out of the 10 things I consider essential in an expansion the LS and other updates have only provided 3.5 of them. That is less than half.
Gw2 did provide a few things that I would not expect in an expansion such as JP’s but they are few and far between.
So overall not even close to an expansion.
The new ley line story could be very interesting and open up a lot of lore. What should happen is that scarlet should mess with these ley lines, get herself killed and then a dragon should awaken and start attacking due to the changing of the magic. Focus only on the dragons influence spreading and the people of tyria coming together to defeat it.
It will be simple to understand, can have a lot of lore in it, doesn’t have all the confusing alliances and will get us back in touch with old characters.
Well I don’t actually play any of these classes but I agree that they should be changed to match the new gear. Just add in a check to scale up if you have an ascended weapon equipped.
TL:DR – give each class the same base HP, but heavy armour should be more tanky than medium, which should be more tanky than light. Light armour folks should be able to dodge more than medium armour types, who are still more agile than heavies.
At this point you have an entirely different game. Maybe GW3, but not even an expansion would bring that many changes.
The main problem is that they took a standard RPG set-up and tried to shoehorn it into their game which wasn’t a standard RPG. in traditional MMO’s Heavy armor wearers are always melee fighters with lots of defense and adequate offense. Medium Armor wearers come in two varieties. High damage or high burst melee fighters, or adequate ranged fighters like a ranger. Finally light armor wearers or casters are long range nukers who do very high damage but with very low survivability.
Yet Anet took this model and then for some reason said screw that, everyone will be both melee and ranged and everyone will have the same dps in melee range and everyone will have the same dps in ranged mode. Of course they left all the traditional defense capabilities in place, for no reason what-so-ever.
So now we are stuck in the awkward situation where everyone can theoretically do the same damage, but some classes still have more defense then others, leaving those classes clearly superior to the others. You can either have a trade-off system or an everyone is equal system… but right now Anet is trying to have both… which leads to heavy classes being god mode and everyone else being left behind.
Seriously why do people always see nerf as the only solution, you want to use condition damage but its too weak. well then buff it by 500% or something.
Fix the broken, Don’t break the working mechanics.
“Thats powercreep”, No it isn’t.
The skills in this game is way to basic to even worry about that.
In wow where you have 50 buttons nerfing would probably be better.
We tried that… for the last 14 months… it is clear that Anet is not skilled enough to overcome the technical challenges to make it happen. Now we are moving onto the only other viable solution which is to nerf the other guy.
really ?!
so condition builds who invest in just one stat to do damage are already crying about power builds that need to invest in 3 stats to do damage leaving them with med to no defense at all ?
I’m not sure where you are getting your information. Condition users use at least 3 stats"
Condition damage
Condition duration
Precision
The problem is that Anet hardcapped duration and the total number of stats. This is why duration and precision to some extent are mostly ignored. With a hard cap on duration there is no reason to put it on your gear. With a hard cap on stacks there is no reason to have much duration at all since it just makes you reach the cap faster. Same for precision, it makes you reach the cap faster which does nothing after the cap.
If duration cap was removed and stack limit was removed then the best gear for condition users would be Condition Damage, Condition Duration, Precision.
And power builds actually use 4 stats, not 3, which is why their scaling is so vastly OP. Weapon damage is the 4th stat.
But since Anet kitten condition users we get worse overall damage, a damage cap, and lower scaling on gear.
Except an endurance nerf will only damage the game given that it is designed to have a fluid and organic type of combat.
It’s a dodge attack type of game instead of a " stand in one place and hit your opponent and he stands in one place hitting you" where the person with the better gear/build wins.An endurance nerf is never coming. It would defeat the purpose of GW2 combat.
Defensive stats are viable at the moment – they mean you’re forgiven MORE mistakes if you’re not dodging / evading right – but they shouldn’t be made that you’ll be able to circumvent dodging entirely because " I AM FULL TANK AND HAVE TONS OF REGEN".
Hate to be the bearer of bad news… but the endurance nerf is coming on Tuesday… it has already been announced and discussed… Access to vigor is being severely nerfed in order to reduce the amount of dodging that occurs. You can check the Dec 10th balance preview thread of all the details, but this is something that isn’t theoretical, it is already happening.

The leather has been available for over a month… Either people don’t know this or… well that’s the only explanation I have. You can buy all the ascended leather squares you will ever need at cost off the TP. People buying up leather must be ignorant of this fact.
If you are unhappy with the new skin then ask for a refund. However it is completely unacceptable for you to keep the current skin, which is why it was removed in the first place.
I hope they don’t. Think of it this way… how many exploits and game breaking bugs are there usually on patch day?
Now imagine instead of being patched within 12 hours they are there for 5 days because everyone is out on Christmas vacation?
Please Please postpone the patch until after the Holidays. You are only going to hurt the game if you try and keep this patch on time.
Unlikely to change… like just about everything that is wrong with this game it is apparently a “technical problem” that they don’t know how to fix.
I mean you think that would be simple… or a core part of the game… but nope it is beyond them apparently.
Probably just the 1. It is much to long a grind to want to start over and do it again for another character.
Ugh Wintersday… it’s just like Christmas. Stupid holiday and decorations are the same every year for hundreds of years… how dumb is that?
(/end sarcasm)
I’m ready. I was getting bored again just grinding random dungeons and fractals for no real reason. It will be nice to actually have a new goal to work towards. Hopefully this takes longer than the 2 weeks the weapons took.
Also I hope they introduce the new legendary items soon and hopefully they look better than the current ones…
that is the forum filter for a bad word.
Silk and gossamer have been flooding the market with no use since launch. There is so much excess in the game that we are unlikely to run out. People who have been hoarding will all sell as the price rises and everyone has their own expectation of what price point that is. You only need 2 stacks to get to 500, Which while it seems is a lot of gossamer it really isn’t that much in the grand scheme of things.
Since there is no content in the game that requires ascended gear just take your time and have fun making it.
Too bad the crafting process is not fun at all.
you are certainly entitled to your opinion, and I see it as a perfectly valid opinion. However, it has been confirmed that fractals will indeed drop ascended armor in some form. So that will be at least one other method. Will it be viable? We won’t know until next week.
Personally I enjoy crafting.
Compared to a lot of other crafting systems, I do not think this one is bad at all, but that is just me.
Ascended armor is coming, everyone might as well just accept it and move an. I do not see it as that big of a deal personally.
it isn’t a big deal YET because endgame content is still balanced around exotic stats as an endgame gear.
The moment new content starts to be balanced with the assumption that ascended is endgame gear, well that’s when the crap hits the ceiling.
actually everything was originally balanced around rares as the gear people would be wearing. Only in the most recent LS updates has that switched to exotics.
It’s supposed to be a long term goal. Since there is no content in the game that requires ascended gear just take your time and have fun making it. You will not be alone.
Sure the top 5% of players will probably be able to make it right off the bat, but there is no need to do it that fast.
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday pushing things back further than anticipated, the page will go live tomorrow.
Sorry for the confusion.
understandable, thanks for the heads up!
Ugh it’s killing me… I need my update!
Usually it would be already up for ~4 hours. Probably they have nothing to show us.
True, massive rebalances + 8 new skills is “nothing to show us”.
8 new skills?
Source? I’ve heard references floating around but I can’t find where it came from.
Instead of high quality expansions once a year to fund the game they have decided on low quality rapid fire content to get people into the gem store. So until people stop buying it this is what we are stuck with.
Noone can gain any stat advantage over anyone else via the gemstore. End of story.
Noone buying fashion, skins, backpacks, overly flashy mining picks, fancy finishers or anything from the gemstore has any advantage over you.Play an actual P2W game and then argue using the term here.
Not actually true:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Strength_Booster
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Armor_Booster
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Speed_Booster
You can most certainly use the gemstore to gain a 10% armor boost, a 5% damage boost and a 15% run speed boost over other players who don’t use the gem store.
Pay money → get boosters → go to WvW → beat players without boosters → win
P2W, no semantics needed, just money and crushing your opponents. sPvP does remain free of P2W however.
I hope this means the introduction of a PvE skin locker. If it does then I won’t complain.
Not sure how I feel about the skins transferring though. I mean everyone and their brother has pretty much all the skins thanks to the rampant exploiting that has been going on in sPvP the last month or so. Pretty much means all skins will be worthless once this change happens.
Most power based builds will probably be nerfed due to ascended armor if they want to keep the game balanced. This is due to the fact that gear does not scale correctly.
By increasing stats by 5% across the board their scaling problems become very evident. For example that 5% stat increase gives people wearing zerker gear a 17% damage boost.
On the other hand that same 5% stat boost only gives condition damage users a 5.1% damage boost.
Defensive stats scale even worse and the 5% stat boost only increases their defense by 3-4%.
So if they want to keep the game balanced all zerker based builds will need to be nerfed by 11-13% in order to keep all builds at the same level as before ascended gear.
I doubt it will happen though, they will just leave the power gap be.
Don’t forget the ascended gear scaling problem. Power builds that use zerker gear gain a 17% dmg boost when upgrading to full ascended gear. Condition users gain 5%…
Condition damage scales very poorly, is limited in the stats it can use, doesn’t stack with other players, and has a cap. conditions are also frequently cleansed off mobs/bosses, have reduced effectiveness, and can’t apply burst.
Condition damage is inferior in pretty much every way and needs a serious buff in PvE as well as a complete technical overhaul.
Eventually it will be.. but you can transfer gold to gems so you can get everything anyway.
But to me thats not even the point. The main question to me is, do the micro-transactions influence the game in a negative way?
The answer for me clearly is yes (and thats simply because it’s the way Anet makes the money so nearly every patch has as goal selling more gems in stead of improving the game) so P2W or not, at this point the gem-store is bad for the game.
With that the idea that you help the game with buying gems is also flawed. Buying gems helps to get the game in a worse shape.
I agree. The game is suffering because new content is designed with the gem store as the focus, not the game. In games with a monthly sub you have artificial time gates such as once a week raiding to keep people around, but the quality of the content is high since it is what keeps people playing. With the gem store we see the in-game content suffering in a different way.
1.Speed of updates is prioritized over quality in order to get more items in the gem store
2.In-game rewards are of lower quality and are often the same item slot over and over to promote buying higher quality items in the gem store.
3. Expansions are ignored because low quality fast paced updates with no meaningful content provide the same income for a fraction of the work.
4. End-game rewards are generally grindy and shallow since they want you to get the gem store equivalent instead of earning it through skill/time.
5. RNG rules supreme because people always spend more on gambling than they do on one time purchases.
Now that i’ve seen both models I will certainly promote a monthly fee over this style of game.
It doesn’t matter what Anet puts in the gem store, it will never be P2W because as soon as the game crosses the line with P2W the people will need to justify why it isn’t P2W so that they can feel ok with themselves for buying it.
Before this game launched people pretty much agreed it would be P2W if there was no way to aquire gem store armors through in game means
Once it was obvious that wasn’t the case, P2W was then redefined as cosmetics only are ok but any non cosmetic would be P2W.
Once “convenience” items were introduced the goal post for P2W was moved again. Now both cosmetic and convenience items are ok but stat advantages are still a no-no.
Once you point out that in the gem store you can get boosters to give a 5-10% stat advantage over other players who don’t purchase them (in WvW and PvE) the goal post is moved yet again since you need to gamble with real money to get them and can’t purchase them directly (I don’t follow the logic at all here, but that’s what they say). Now cosmetic, convenience and rng stat boosts are ok, but stats on gear are not ok.
I suspect in another 3 months they will introduce ascended armor into the gem store. At that point the bar for P2W will be moved to be “it’s ok to have the top tier gear in the gem store as long as it isn’t better than the top gear”
The process will just continue and you will never get people to admit that the game has been P2W for a long time because that means they are buying the things they claim to despise so they will justify themselves until the ends of the earth if they need to.
Same reason all the other major problems in this game exist… “technical difficulties” that they are either unable to or unwilling to spend the time to fix.
I wouldn’t get your hopes up for this ever being fixed, I don’t think they’ve even acknowledged it as a problem yet. Look at condition damage. They said they were working on a “fix” 10 months ago… or look at the combat log, they said they wanted to “improve its functionality” 13 months ago… hows that going?
I think they must have fired all their coders after release. The only people they have left are people that can use the high level tools to make quick buggy content.
It’s already been confirmed that we will get new legendary weapons as well as a legendary trinket. The weapons will probably follow the same basic formula, but it is anything goes for the trinket.
From the german Forums:

Lets see if ArenaNets LS will finally get as sophisticated as Fan-Speculation.
It’s clearly Scarlet’s hair…
Teq is killed with nearly a 100% success rate right after reset on JQ and BG as well as in 2-3 TTS overflows. The only time i’ve seen a failure is when the event bugs. I don’t know if other guilds/servers do it as well, but a few might.
You will need to get there at least an hour before reset though. If you don’t get in by then you will need to know someone who is in to get a spot.
This fractal really separates the bads from the skilled people….Seems like every time I run this fractal at least half the team goes down at the cannon stage. I don’t understand how this stage is so hard? You avoid the red circles that show up on the ground. Don’t stop and try to rez people as you will most likely go down too.
Seems like after every cannon stage I end up having to pick people up and it shouldn’t be this hard to run around.
I have had to leave countless groups because of this stage because it ends up taking hours and the reward is not worth it.
It’s not easy, when you’re necro with just 2 dodges without any vigors or higher endurance regen, when you don’t have blocks and invulnerabilities and even full DS goes down instantly.
I know necro isn’t very mobile, but I can’t say i’ve ever had a problem with this on my necro and i’ve done it multiple times both in the LS and now in the fractal. And since I can do it as a necro then I know every other class can do it easier.
Go figure a group full of mostly warriors… But don’t worry the devs insist that non-heavies bring a lot to the table too… as long as you don’t mind losing.
Congrats though on beating it!
The only thing the devs have been completely clear and unnegotiable on is the 2-week patch schedule. In the living story “collaborative development” thread this was brought up as an issues 10x more than any other issue and they just flat up said that it wasn’t ever going to change. So if this level of quality is not acceptable to you then you will need to either learn to live with it or quit because it is not something they are willing to improve on.
The Living Story has basically become a parody of itself. Just give up and don’t try to rationalize the plot points.
pretty much this. It doesn’t need to make sense, it just has to scarlet.
Expect a gem store “upgrade extractor” for the low low price of 400 gems/use to appear shortly…
scarlet is starting to remind me of something…..
at least they could be entertaining at times….
Hm, I just checked the gemstore and I can’t buy a single one of those, so apparently we have different versions of the store.
Oh that’s cause you have to use RNG (with real money) if you want to win:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Black_Lion_Chest
They are “common” drops so you should only need to spend $40-$60 to get an advantage over other players.
