What if JPs Dropped Champ Loot

Jumping puzzles (along with mini-dungeons) will be some of the locations that begin rewarding ascended crafting materials once crafting to 500 goes live; this is intended to help make these areas more rewarding and fun even more annoying to go back to and play.

FTFY.

Would anyone care to guess if we’ll be able harvest ascended mats from WvW? I’m sure I already know the answer.

You’ll get ascended harvesting in WvW when PvE stops needing to WvW for jps/map completion.

Markof your ideas are terrible.

So what if someone parks a char at a JP chest? The chest can only be opened per character once a day. Its not like they can wait a few hours and log back in to open it, like you can with many mining nodes in the game that respawn. Stop punishing players who don’t park their chars, because that’s all your ideas do: punish players.

I have exactly one character with map completion who can get to every jp, and one char who can get to a bit less than half of them. Your system would hurt me because now I get half the mats that you might get even though I’m doing the same content just with fewer chars.

Really, stop trying to hold everyone back, kitten .

kittenery aside, labelling it “unique” in no way indicates only 1 can be worn. Armor is labelled Rare yet ‘Rare’ armor can be crafted easily. But it says ‘Rare’ so shouldn’t it be… y’know… rare? kitten

I haven’t plunged for ascended gear but I agree with the OP. ANet needs to be less lazy when they add new things to the game. Explain the new things, thats part of the burden of being a game developer is explaining the systems you put in place.

Since I started MMOing in 1997, I have found very VERY few PvE encounters that I considered to require any level of “skill”.

There’s your problem. You’re playing the wrong type of games. Not every game has to be about “How elite are YOU?” to be good or fun.

Maybe you should devote your time to Shooters. Or fighting games. or Mobas. Or RTS. Perhaps you do, but then… if you really want to be challenged and prove how skillful you are… why do you play this instead of those? Lack of skill perhaps?

Dailies are not meant to try and get players to play every day. Dailies are meant to give a little bump of xp for players who don’t have the luxury of spending the majority of their waking moments playing the game. They’re not meant to be a carrot at the end of the stick, thats just what non-casual players project onto it. They’re meant to be a “you only have a couple hours today? Its ok, you can still get a nice little chunk of xp for your char by doing things you’ll most likely complete as you play.”

At least before laurels were attached. They really need to take laurels off of the ‘daily achievements’ system.

Anet, gw2 hardcore or casual?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: arjeidi.2690

arjeidi.2690

Depends on how you define ‘casual’ or ‘hardcore’ really.

If it’s in terms of difficulty, than the majority of it is casual (although you could probably raise the difficulty for yourself by intentionally limiting yourself).

I don’t, however, tend to agree that ‘casual’ and ‘hardcore’ are terms that should be applied to how difficult content is, but to play-style (time spent, investment into learning ect). For example, crafting. Someone can craft casually simply to get gear as they level, or they could aim to unlock every single recipe in the game, and not use guides for cooking.

Another note, challenging content isn’t ‘hardcore’. Both casual and hardcore players alike can enjoy challenging content. It’s more of a case of how they approach it. A casual player might use a guide, try for a bit and then go off to do something else before trying again, while a hardcore player might try to work out the encounters for themselves, or keep at it until they’ve done it.

Pretty much this. ^

They become less impressive when players can buy them instantly on the TP.

Incorrect, they are just as impressive. They are simply less rare, but this doesn’t change how they look. The difference is that one speaks about a persons ego being more important to them than what they like. If you like something, great. If you only like it because it’s rare, that’s simply ego.

+1 to that. If people need to impress others by exclusion, thats pretty sad.

Otherwise, other posts in this thread talk about “ruining the economy”, and I see it a lot on these forums. What they really mean to say is “ruins my chance at becoming rich at the expense of others”, in which case thats a good thing.

The same with GW2’s story. I don’t need to be called “The Slayer” every minute. I don’t need someone who is supposedly a super heroine in the game’s lore to tell me how much I’ve taught her after she goes off throwing a fit over petty problems. I don’t believe that 40+ ships that can overwhelm a fortress brimming with elite soldiers, stone walls and war machines, by launching near endless waves of undead somehow can’t stomp all over Lion’s Arch because we found the power of friendship.

If you’re just now trying to get 100% World Completion but your char is quite old, make sure to hover your mouse over zone names. My char was made last year and I got 100% last week, and it involved me going back to several zones for PoIs or Waypoints that have been added to the game since my character originally completed those zones. Waypoints were added for Guild Puzzles, off the top of my head there are new ones in Brisban Wildlands, Snowden Drifts, and Plains of Ashford.

If you’ve gotten all of those, check the wiki and the “[Region] Explorer” achievements. There are a few areas in some zones that have absolutely no Waypoint/POI/Skillpoint/Vista. I’m not actually sure if those areas count but having the [Region Explorer] + 100% each zone will help you eliminate where your missing entries might be.

Tai Kratos, I wish you didn’t stop. There are many players who succumb to eye-rolls and skipping scenes, if not abandoning the story altogether (like me), but I’ve never seen such an incredibly well written post(s) explaining why the story is so unappealing. I see truth in every comment you made regarding silliness and maturity, and I share your disappointment at how it all comes out in the game. Maybe my hopes were raised by the fact they had novels, giving the indication that the writing was going to be good, but I did not get that impression from the actual game content. The writing is eh. Like you, I also find it incredibly undermining when it comes to dealing with factions or lesser races like Skritt. No explanations are given, its just “Go kill X of [creature type]” without any dialog. Sure they’re saving us from having to read walls of text, but I don’t think their alternative is any better.

Again, very well-written, and thank you.

The main issue: players want to farm

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: arjeidi.2690

arjeidi.2690

Players don’t want to farm… Players wants rewards and progress.

Since there are none, they invent one (like Legendaries as one example) and farm for it.

ANet is so deep into pulling us to the gem market (who can blame them, it’s their business) that everything new must be VERY expensive and on extreme random chances… basically they are pushing players to it.

So yeah, this game was actually made for grinding, and it subsists on more and more grinding. Don’t like grinding? pay money for “money”.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

This is just hypothetically speaking, so please don’t think I’m trying to advocate for there to be no loot.

What if there was no loot? If you had access to every item available in the game what would you spend your time doing? What content would you choose to do if you weren’t concerned about rewards? How would this change your play style?

If there was no loot, JPs wouldn’t feel like a waste of time so much lol. I’d still do every single one for the achievements, as that is what keeps me going in GW2.

I’d actually be fine if there were no loot drops. I have a job irl and work for resources enough outside of games, I’m not interested in a second job.

Internet ‘abuse’ has always baffled me, because I don’t see how you can’t just ignore it. If it bothers you that much, don’t look at it. If it hurts your feelings… Well, maybe the internet is not the right place for you.

As for the actual intent of this thread: Arah is never permanently closed. /thread

You don’t see how you can’t ignore it? The only way you know if something bothers you is to read it. So your advice is “If you read something that bothers you, don’t read it.” We all can rewind time to avoid things? Have psychic powers so we know beforehand what not to read?

The internet can be a great place, but just because you’re anonymous doesn’t mean you’re free from the burden of being a decent person. If you want to be a kitten, then you should have to deal with consequences. No “I get to treat people like crap, this is the internet!”

Here’s what I think:

People wanna get through it as quick as possible because they don’t particularly enjoy, or have much fun doing, the same thing day in and day out. They do it, sure, but probably begrudgingly because it’ll get them what they want the quickest/easiest/most efficiently.

People in general have less patience when they don’t enjoy what they’re doing (not just in games). Its a chore, because the game isn’t very fun to play over and over, and they don’t want it to take up anymore time than it already does.

3 4 changes I’d like to see:

1. Get jumping puzzles out of WvW. If I wanna be ganked by kittenbags who get off on ruining other people’s fun, I’d go back to Age of Wushu.

2. Fix the kitten classes. Rangers especially, but not only them.

entitled players vs skilled players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: arjeidi.2690

arjeidi.2690

Everytime i see a legendary user dying to basic bosses there i just laugh in their face..they don’t deserve to have one.

I find this attitude way more harmful than the “entitled” attitude. Players wanting to exclude other players from enjoying the game simply because “they’re not as good as ME so they don’t deserve to have awesome things in a video game.”

kitten off and get over yourself. Its a video game, everyone who buys it is entitled to enjoy it. You want skill to mean something? Go do something in real life that requires skill. You’ll get all the exclusion you want there.

I’ll also note that it seems many players who want harder content that only “they” can do, also want rewards that can only be gotten by them for doing the hard content. Gee, entitled much?

I’m fine for harder content. I’ve not challenged the queen’s gauntlet at all and I won’t, because its not my thing, but harder content should not exclude people from getting items in a video game. If skilled players really want their skill to matter, then completing the challenge that others cannot is reward enough (or should be). Give them a title for it. But items? Now they’re just being the entitled “I did this so I demand I get a reward” players they claim are unreasonable.

Welll sure, because only a percentage of players play the game. Most just use the game to get their rewards. And since play is its own reward, the in game rewards have to exist for the majority.

Its even worse that they seem to design some things with “everyone’s zerker these days” in mind, which is rough on other builds.

I don’t normally rant about the decisions the devs make but I don’t think I have ever seen a game where such a small percentage of a playerbase gets so much sway over decisions made about balancing a game, all in the name of protecting their precious wanna be esport.

Guild Wars 1 was just as bad. They destroyed so many skills in PvE based on PvP/GvG that they eventually, years later, learned from it and started splitting skills into PvE and PvP versions. During the great hypefest for GW2 they said they were going to continue that in GW2 right from the start. Yet more bullkitten from ArenaNet.

Hopefully it doesn’t take them as long to re-learn what they already learned years ago.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

arjeidi.2690

There’s so many reasons to keep people interested in this game. If you don’t see anyone, it’s because they’re busy with this game’s rich end-game content.

Exploring Tyria is unpredictable and dangerous. You never know what you might encounter, which makes exploration exciting and slow enough to last for a lot of time. Remember those games where all you do is farm fetch quests, and replaying with an alt is painful? In GW2, playing with an alt is an exciting new experience. And all those enemy patrols, the unexpected encounters, the diversified enemy team formations, etc. There’s a difference between a casual explorer and a skilled explorer: the later kind of players have knowledge and experience about each unique map in Tyria, so you better ask them advice. GW2 is a game that rewards skill and knowledge, after all. And when you get that awesome treasure at the end! Isn’t it an awesome feeling to go through danger to get that rare, shiny sword and equip it? No wonder people don’t play those grindy mmos anymore, you know, those where getting rare equipment is trivial and nothing but salveagable loot. In this game, getting a rare equipment actually incentivates you to equip it and get satisfied by what you just found. No, getting loot is not just about colecting generic materials.

And the community is really tight and lively. Inbetween all the guild features, player-generated events, and demanding team-driven content, there’s so much depth and fun for those players. This is not a game about rushing with dps gear and dodging red circles, no. It’s about covering the weaknesses of your allies, giving them space to shine, and analyze the unique strategy behind each encounter.

Another reason that players might not be seen, is because they’re following and customising their personal story. They’re tweaking the personality details of their characters, completing their home instances with stuff, repeating the epic main narrative, and the two-week content patches are keeping them busy. Especially considering how important lore is in this game. Getting ascended gear, getting legendary gear, or filling in extra % map completion gets you to know a lot more about Tyria. GW2 is about the experience, not about mindless material grinding or the like. Remember the entire quest to get the Twilight? I enjoyed the story behind Bolt the best, though.

But those mmo grinders don’t enjoy a game like that. No, they’re leaving GW2, and getting back to those games where you… farm an easy dungeon for weeks, farm epic bosses by auto-attacking them, farm dailies, farm mindless mob waves… You know, those games where you’re in a never-ending race at attempting your luck with RNG boxes. That’s what keeps those games really popular, so people all went back to them. But fortunately for us all, GW2 is not this kind of game.

Brilliant. Accurate. Insightful. Informative. Sad.

RNG boxes.

Traits. I think the biggest problem is they’re tied to stats. It’d be a lot more worthwhile to mix’n’match and experiment with different Trait setups if they weren’t also tied to stats.

Skills being mandated by the weapon. Hated the idea when I first heard it but gave it a chance. Yeah, 1 year later and its still crap.

Lack of exciting things to do. Jumping Puzzles are the most fun part of GW2 (to me), which is sad considering I’m predominantly an MMO player.

Video game storytelling != fairy tales. Also keep in mind that killing a separatist in Guild Wars 2 does not, in any way, equate to doing such things in real life. “Terrible acts”, you say. I wouldn’t call “Target Next→ use attack skills” as a terrible act. Its playing a game.

In the real world there is a great amount of despicable things done by humanity. In any fictional world worth taking seriously, there’s going to be equal amounts of it. Stories without any conflict are uninteresting and not compelling. I would even say your distaste at the events in the game is a good thing because it challenges something in you. The game isn’t meant to teach you “this is right”, and if people are honestly swayed by it to believe those actions are ‘right’ then they shouldn’t be playing video games to begin with.

I disagree strongly that this is “a serious problem”. Its a fictional world with conflict and evil. Which, looking at history, is the basic story of humanity. I’d rather areas/stories like this are brought out into view rather than ignored and “we’ll pretend this never happens”.

For me, personally, and I’m only speaking for myself here…

Skimpy armor isn’t likely to appear on my characters simply because its skimpy/revealing/whatever. If I like the aesthetic, I’ll use it. I have a female human mesmer who’s wearing the HoM skin, and a female human ele that’s showing a lot of skin. I don’t mind skimpy armors, and I don’t mind bulky armors. If it appeals to my eye, I’ll use it. (The Acolyte set is one of my fave light armors).

That said, too much of one or the other (skimpy vs conservative) is boring. 90% skimpy armor? Yawn. 90% conservative? Yawn. Variety is the spice of life and this is where I feel GW2 lacks in the armor department. Way too many armors are way too similar to others. I’d like options. Yeah, light armor has some options, but medium has practically none.

I’d like some more revealing armors but not too many more. A balance should be maintained.

ArenaNet’s stance with GW2 is “information overwhelms players, we have to minimize the amount of facts and numbers we give players so they don’t feel like they ’won’t get it’”.

Working as intended, I’m sorry to say.

Full refund for snowflake exploiters?

Good, I wholly support their refunds and hope everyone caught up in that stupid ban gets one, and they don’t re-purchase. ANet won’t learn anything if those people all just turn around and spend their refund on a new copy of GW2, thus boosting ANet’s “sales totals” (I assume refunds aren’t taken into account when tallying sales of a game).
