As someone who facepalms on a regular basis (ANets patch cycle), I’ve managed to work past the rage I often felt when the devs would push out some nonsensical change to something that didn’t need changing while completely ignoring things that did need changing.

I had very similar feelings about the development of MechWarrior Online (MWO). You see, I’m a huge fan of Battletech. Not just the games, but the novels, the fiction, the sourcebooks, etc. I love it and its my favorite Intellectual Property thats out there. MWO is a game which essentially promotes itself as capturing the feel of the IP and so people who are familiar with Battletech have a certain set of expectations when they hear such promotion. For a while (1+ year) I often felt frustrated and perplexed (if not outright angry) at changes and additions the developers (PGI) would add to the game. For myself, and my level of battletech fandom, there were way more things being added that I disliked than there were things I liked. But I held on to my expectations and continued to be disappointed, frustrated, and angry. And I posted on the forums to express why I felt the way I did. Nothing ever got better, since PGI behaves the same way ANet does: Ignore anything that doesn’t bathe them in praise or hype.

Then one day it occured to me: My problem isn’t with the game, its with the devs. And there’s nothing I can do about it. My problem is that I kept looking at the game for what it could have been, and what I wanted, but not what it was. Once I accepted the game for what it was and that it would never meet my hopes and expectations, a lot of my anger just dissolved rather quickly.

The upside? I’m no longer frustrated or angry over that game. I contribute a lot less anger to their forums and I feel much better.
The downside? I no longer care about the game either. Why should I? Caring about the game isn’t going to make it better for me or make it more enjoyable, so why waste the energy and the effort?

TL;DR: People can stop being angry about GW2, OP, but it probably means they’ll stop caring entirely and I don’t think GW2 can afford that.

What about adding AI appropriate to game released in 2012?
Is that too much?
I’m fairly sure AI in GW1 (2005 game) was much better than in this game.
At least, if nothing else, the monster groups moved out of AOE.

They didn’t move out of AoE’s originally and the GW1 community went into shock and rained a firestorm when ANet finally added that function to the AI lol…

[Suggestion]GW2 would be better without the.

Hi everyone. I hate the medium armor in this game. I was doing a story mission last night and had to put on a “pirate” costume and my first thought was “why can’t THIS be medium armor!” So I figured I’d ask and see if maybe it was and if so, how I could obtain it. Any help would be much appreciated!

136 views and nobody cares?

That’s surprising to you?

yes, there is so much outrage on small trivial stuff, but the major issues are silent….

Trivial stuff matters to trivial minds, I guess. I’m partly guilty of that as well because I’d never paid close attention to what stat combinations were out there. Especially as they add new ones with events that I see… nobody care about. I didn’t even realize how difficult/impossible they were to make now.

Thats really messed up. I’d hope ANet was smart enough to also notice this and be able to fix it without punishing the playerbase somehow, but their ideas at solving it would be to just add the required stuff as a “rare chance” to stuff like Teq chest or something.

Thats another reason why people may not speak in this thread. This issue is something that matters but people can’t get ANet to stop being idiots about non-important issues, so what chance is there that they (ANet) will come around on something actually significant? Not much, I’m afraid.

Only 10 Daily Achivements?

I know that I am probably part of a minority of players (not liking pvp, playing solo, not too much time) – but previously, there ALWAYS was enough choice that I could find some good combination of things to do, but now it’s “these are the pve things you have to do today, no choice”. So I am pretty sure that there will be days when I won’t be able to do the dailies due to lack of options (because there are now fewer pve only options on the list) – this new system definitely is worse than the old one.

We might be in the minority, but you aren’t alone. My playstyle is nearly identical: No pvp, solo play, limited time. The previous Daily system was brilliant for everyone as nobody was negatively impacted by it. But this new system…? Negative impacts everywhere.

Sadly, I knew this was coming when in an interview a couple weeks/months back, Colin mentioned they were going to “encourage” players to PvP. “Encourage” is ANet-PR-lie-speak for “force” or “shovel”. As long as the current people in charge stay in charge at ANet, these are the kinds of design decisions we can expect: Stubbornly driven “play how I want you to play” design with little regard for actual enjoyment of the game.

You guys that are exclaiming “Good!” might not be so happy if this makes t6 mats, cores and lodestones increase in price since people won’t be opening near as many boxes. :P

I never cared if people trained around Queensdale killing champions. My issue has always been the toxic atmosphere, that many champ train riders turned Queensdale into.

I have seen people call other people tards for killing a champion out of turn.

I have seen vers of the game tell Newbies, that if they do not join the train they cannot attack the champs, and if they do so Out of turn shut their pie holes about it, because mentioning On map that they did is griefing… and will be reported.

I have seen people that decide to kill a champion just 3 or 4 people to see if they can…out of turn called greedy, and discourteous.

Seems that giving the people On the champion train respect and courtesy, means that you MUST Join the champion train….or Not touch them.

One guy said " I am keeping track of players that Kill them out of turn, if I ever see them in a dungeon not going to help them."

THIS is why I am happy the Champion train was nerfed.

PS. Do we really want a Bunch of players whose two important skills are …following one another, and hitting auto-attack?

The problem is with THOSE PLAYERS, not the actual “train”. Those players are going to be kittens in dungeons, or in events, or anywhere. Blaming the train for that is nonsensical, really. Your problem seems to be with other players that have ALWAYS been present in Guild Wars (yay no sub fee /rolleyes), and not with the activity, so why are you happy that the activity is nerfed but the players are untouched?

Also, in regards to your PS, do we really need players whose only skill is “flipping” on the TP and not even playing the game? They’re worse than any zerg yet ANet seems ok with them…

Even though I did not care much for champion trains myself, the fact many people come here just to say how happy they are is pretty deplorable.

“Play how I want you to play” at it’s finest.

Maybe if the champ trainers weren’t so rude to those who kill champs out of cycle, then people wouldn’t be so happy about this change.

Nah, the players happy about this change would be happy about it either way. Why? Because they don’t believe participating in the train is how the game should be played, so everybody else in the world should be discouraged from doing it. That’s the only reason. They’re just your typical conceited kittens that thinks everything should be done their way, no exceptions.

Hi,

I know someone who just got a new laptop that will handle GW2 and they’ve been wanting to play it forever. Issue: their internet is not such that downloading 20gb would be realistic (since can only be online a few hours a day, would take over a week to get.) Include all the patches they’d have to get, and yeah, no thanks.

My question is this:

Would it be possible for me to patch up my game, throw the files onto a USB flash drive, and then let them copy the files onto their laptop? Obviously they’d need their own account and thats not a problem, I’m just unsure if the game would run without it having been “properly” downloaded right to their laptop.

They are supposed to be a “Group event” all champs are designed to be killed by large groups of people.

Any frostforge champion easily killed by by one warrior.

So players who play classes that aren’t as “efficient” as a lone warrior deserve to have their rewards nerfed and limited because you think warriors do it too quickly?

People obviously have a problem with the whole zerg train existing, but its obvious they never put any thought into the situation. They simply react “I DON’T LIKE THAT, IT SHOULDN’T EXIST”. Think more, whine less.

when everyone and there dog farm only 1-2 spots in game because thats the most profitable and ignore all the content we have like worldbosses, dungeons, fractals, JPs , WvW ….. than there is something wrong with this 1-2 spots and they have to be nerfed

No, the other areas of the game need to have their rewards improved. Don’t be such a simpleton looking to bring others down, look for ways to bring yourself up. My favorite thing to do in GW2 is explore and jumping puzzles. You know what? The ‘rewards’ for those are utter crap. You’re kitten right I’m going to spend 20 minutes farming Champs in Frostgorge (thats all I can bear before I’d rather log out) to get some decent things that my 2-4 hours of not-farming doesn’t even match.

You’re right the rewards are out of balance, but thats because ANet designed the game to be incredibly stingy and unrewarding, and anytime they make an improvement people flock to that improvement because its enjoyable to get things. Maybe if the whole effing game was rewarding, people wouldn’t focus on CoF p1, or Frostgorge Orr. But the game isn’t, so people do.

Nerfing it will just move them somewhere else, improving everything else will spread them around. Try thinking.

Or should they rly die in 2-3 seconds? and spawn faster than normal mobs?

You have no idea what you’re talking about lololol. Champion Icebrood Fish spawns in… 8-12 minutes or something? Risen garbage in Orr can spawn in 3 seconds.

Just to clear things up, 8-12 minutes is not less than 3 seconds.

World Completion. Jumping Puzzle achievements.

I do agree with your position that players should not be forced to play areas of the game they are not interested in, but ANet disagrees on a philosophical level, and they have since GW1.

If people pay attention to interviews, you’ll get a heads up when players will be forced into other areas. ANet likes to use the word “encourage”.

The thread is in the sPvP forums. Everyone that played any type of PvP, may it be WvW or sPvP, must have anticipated that conditions will be nerfed in the future.

With the naive “I invested so much time” you could argue against every balance change, even against balance changes that are vital for the game.

Ah ok, yeah found the thread there, post made on Sept 3rd.

Maybe in PvP conditions need tweaks to be less dominant. I won’t argue that as I have no pvp experience, its not my gameplay. PvE is and conditions don’t need to be tweaked and brought down there. If anything, they need the opposite.

Except I don’t trust ANet to recognize that. Oh they may be doing splits a bit more often now, but before the game released they said they learned from GW1 and there would be a full split of PvE/PvP. There wasn’t. Months after release and there still wasn’t.

So I don’t trust them in regards to balancing. Their own fault for not sticking to their word. Then again, not living up to promises is what ANet excels at…

It’s the 3rd, you have 27 more days to do it. It’s not like they did it on the 28th. You don’t get a special prize if you finish off your monthly way, way early.

Except this month… you do, don’t you?

Early Completion: 10 Laurels
Second Completion 10 Laurels + Ascended mats?

Whereas people who didn’t complete it early get:

10 Laurels + Ascended mats.

ANet should have had a check to see what players had already completed the monthly and given the ascended mats to the account via mail. But that’d require actual thought and consideration, and that doesn’t generate gem sales, so we can see why they didn’t.

You’re forgetting the other kind of gate…skill gating. But they would never dare to do that

Plenty of other games out there if that’s what you’re after, champ

Not really the point of what i was trying to say. It seems that people including Anet think there are only a few ways to gate things. Either through time or through RNG. But they keep forgetting that you can gate things through skill level required. Now i dont mean to say that they should make elitist content in the sense that you can only complete it with certain builds. What i mean is that making something skill gated also makes it time gated but in a more natural way. What they should have done with ascended weapons is made them exclusive drops to harder dungeons or made the mats drop from harder dungeons. For example you would get x amount of mat drops from high level fractal or a dungeon like arah p4 that takes pug groups a long time to get through. This way it would make people better at the game while trying to get weapons they want. And if people dont like dungeons than make open world pve events that are difficult as well like revamping some champs / world bosses which they have started to do. Im not that annoyed with the ascended weapons because im not going to even try to get them until it becomes absolutely necessary, im just starting to see a pattern (a blatantly obvious one) of time gating which is starting to define this game. And im not all that happy with it.

I completely misunderstood your previous post. I apologize.

“Play more, whine less.” – Zypher.7609

I agree with your point about creating a new thread for a topic that has been discussed to death in who knows how many other threads, but….

“…free item.”

Hmm. So this item is available without spending any money ? I am pretty sure that only people who have spent money on GW2 get the minipet. When there is a threshold of, “must spend at least X amount of money,” to get something it is by definition not free.

Everyone who bought the game gets that minipet when their character turns 1 year old. You don’t have to spend money in the gem shop to get that mini.

That’s the point, I think. Everyone who is playing the game has purchased the game. Its not as if we sign up using their free-to-play option and then complain about a mini given to us. Everything you get in GW2, whether you like it or dislike it, requires a purchase.

Bad things happen everywhere to everyone at some time. That doesn’t mean that people can’t complain about the small things and want sympathy or it to be changed.

But… anyone who doesn’t just bend over and take it is someone who thinks they’re entitled to better. Entitled! Do you have any idea how despicable they are? Forget definitions, they think they’re Entitled to improvements!

There’s a difference between feeling entitled and disappointed. I am disappointed because in GW1, their small but thoughtful birthday gift was actually unique and tradeable, which made me feel appreciated as a customer for being loyal. It is part of the reason I respected ANet so much as a company. Now this, among many other things over the past year, have shown that they care a lot less about their customers and more about getting their money. It is disappointing to me.

I 100% agree with you. My post was just to point out the idiocy of people like Zypher, who think anyone voicing an opinion that isn’t “BOY I LOVE THIS” being indicative of a sense of entitlement. You’ll see that a lot on these forums.

Well this means one of two things i guess…

1. The employees got fed up with being forced to release sub-par bug ridden content and demanded a higher standard and were fired for it. (Bad)

or

2. The higher ups finally have realized the sub par bug ridden content every 2 week model isn’t working and they fired the people responsible for it and will switch to a more reasonable model (good)

We probably won’t see the results of these layoffs for another 2-3 months, but we will be able to tell if this was a good thing or a bad thing in a few months based on the quality of content coming out at that time.

Frankly, I don’t believe I could sum it up better myself. Colin’s blog post on the future says the right things, but I don’t have confidence I know where Anet is on any issue really.

That’s definitely a thing. ANet is great at saying the right things. I really consider ArenaNet to have great ideas. But how they go about it and what they end up doing? Leaves me disappointed.
