You’re wrong. When you do not know what the facts are, you should not speak, lest you come across as an ignorant fool.

Wrong. Examples are plenty and healthy but I’ll just go with one – ANET.
ANET’s own game, GW1, does not have a matchmaking system like that.
It splits randoms from premades and guess what?
GW1 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more competitive than this one.

And btw, to people that say

It’s not a “placebo” (And placebo doesn’t mean what you think it means, to paraphrase a movie). You probably don’t know but it’s possible to test if they are premades or not.
You ought to get your facts straight before entering a discussion, lest you spout nonsense and don’t contribute with anything constructive.

Last but not the least, why Josh and Evan persist on this…horrible idea of allowing premades vs PUGs.
Do they think GW1, a clearly superior PvP game, had it wrong? Do they believe that their predecessors were stupidly wrong and still made a PvP game vastly superior to GW2 to this day?

you can’t tell the difference between 2+3 and a 5 man premade without asking them. all you can do is see if you can add them to party, guild tags don’t help. so Mr Rude and Arrogant here is seeing premades when they don’t exist, feeling the effects of the premade when it’s not even there (oh gosh like someone taking a placebo report me for illegal brain crimes). you think you can tell if it’s a premade, but unless they tell you or they all have the same guild tag you can’t.

other people in the thread have explained rationally why it’s important to let’s groups of 4, and just groups in general to queue together. everytime some guy complains about these premades the devs show him to be exaggerating heavily.

axe mastery is +150 ferocity for each axe you wield. so that’s +300 if you go duel axe. pretty gnarly if you ask me. 66006 quickness axe axe is something I will be trying, for the gnar factor.

you don’t need the bow. I’ve been running valk shouts with hammer sw/sh for a while now. if you can land the earthshakers then CI works fine. bow is great for might stacking etc as well as the 100% CI success, but you can make CI work with other weapons- you just have to land the burst skills.

1100 or 1000 would be much better than 900 imo. grenades having so much less range than the rifle feels real wrong, and gimps them for wvw. if mortar is 1500 the range difference is still big enough to justify it, without ruining nades for wvw. 900 range is just not enough to throw them off walls or do zerg v zerg with them. mortar will be popular sure, but having it as the only good range option for group play socks especially when nades are viable currently.

Didn’t watch the video but I skimmed through the notes and it appears that Engi will basically play the same way! Explosives top dog, everything else garbage tier! What a shame! Assuming runes and sigils don’t change (much) then maybe a 15/30/0/20/25 build for a condi Engi! P/P + Adventurer Runes with the new Incendiary Powder burn duration! Seems good!

I like it.

1500 grenade range doesn’t mean anything if it doesn’t hit. I spend most of my time in melee range because that is the only way I can hit anything.

the thing is… some players can hit things further than 900 range away with grenades (myself included). it’s a big nerf if you could actually aim them. like a huge nerf.

Lets face it, grenades were pretty broken. And on the flipside they will be better at short range.
With all the new toys we re getting you can’t really complain.

I don’t know buddy, a range nerf by 600 is pretty huge especially on the most common weapon (kit) used by the class.

you play in a completely different way with the trait than you do without it. I turned so many fights with it. with it, power shoes, any elixir bombs being removed my pvp build has almost had a whole trait line deleted.

The only way I would lose Longbow is if I didn’t need Cleansing Ire to survive. If ANet just remove Cleansing Ire, Warrior loses their meta status overnight.

That’s another problem, not to mention shouts and warhorn completely removed every condi-build out of meta. I don’t mind Warriors being tanky and supportive, Cleansing Ire does not bother me.

I do mind when Warriors are tanky, supportive and can strike with good damage and CC.

You’re talking about Shoutbow?

Shoutbow don’t have any stun/daze/CC. Shoutbow isn’t tanky or have good damage, its celestial.

It is, however, supportive, and mobile.

Pin Down.

The only time Cleansing Ire will ever get nerfed is when the balance of PvP will no longer be about condition spamming vs. condition cleansing.

Pin down isn’t a daze, knockback knockdown or a stun.

And your point? Last time I checked, it was still CC.

900 range is not that good tbh. i run untraited pistol with my condi build and often have to switch to nades because i get outranged. medium range explosives is alright, but with a range that short you have to fight basically on point so they are only a mild increase on range compared to bombs. going from a max range weapon to a medium range weapon is a big nerf. not every engineer should be forced to take mortar if they want some ranged aoe.

not to mention it kittens them for wvw.

p/s is nice for nades based condi. I play rabid 2kit with nightmare runes and p/s rocks. I tend to use nades as the main weapon and just use p/s for utility and more condis. offhand pistol is cool, but the utility from the shield is too good imo. nades, pistol, and tookiy are more than enough to take anyone down.

shout warrior(shoutbow) if you want to be tanky/support, or meditation guardian if you want to be dps. both are straightforward, relatively forgiving, and are very strong. i would recommend trying greatsword for guardian, it’s a very satisfying weapon.

This is a reoccurring theme for the engineer class. Ultra effective skills with no skill tells/animations. Example: Overcharged Shot is an instant 4 second stun with no cast time, no cast animation.

overcharged does self cc tho, so there is a trade off. i wouldn’t mind if the shoes of the engi lit up or something, but it has no cast time so there is no time for a big animation. however if an engi runs at you it’s probably to slick shoes, as apart from prybar it’s the only skill you want to be in melee range to use.

dps/support escort for npcs, and 1 or 2 dps players on defense is all you need. with a healing shout warrior and good play you should be able to get through both doors with one of your first waves of doorbreakers, probably the first one. then just kill the lord. wvw builds are really good for the escort team.

also, you have the option of taking a mesmer so the team can channel 10 supply then portal back to make a 10 bomb dude wave faster than the other team. you wont want to bother with supply apart for the first 10, as you only need more npcs if your escort fails. game should be over before heroes spawn.

only really braindead build is phantasam mesmer imo. hate the stupid dps and instant 6+ bleeds. killed a guildie today (she is a solid cele cele) without even attacking her. just ran around cloaking and summoning. it’s the only build I actually loathe, and no you can’t have it. it’s too disgusting.

also beat a really good warrior with it in 1v1, and i can hardly even play mesmer. carried by stealth and ai.

scrubs will always be easy to wreck. turret engi just let’s a scrub become more powerful than his fellow scrubs, because it’s the only AI Sentinel build that works. anyone loosing to turrets deserves it. ya’ ate the cc, played badly and lost. sure, the engi might have played badly too but that sentinel lets him make more mistakes. most players i see are running zerk builds that they can’t play very well, it’s no surprise they are qqing about a build with cc you have to dodge.

i think this meant to be rude (shieldbash had ‘rage’ issues), but seems confusing. hippies are cool man.

condi and stability are not so popular anymore, and people hate dying to cc. tkittenakes engi seem strong because people don’t run counters much, and the cc makes people more angry when the die to engi (like with hambow). turret engi stomps noobs (most of who don’t think of themselves as such), and guess what? noobs rage.

nerds will get mad at you, but you don’t have to care. put on some chill tunes and have a drink. the haters only have power over you if you care. you can always just reply with a simple ‘lol’.

yes when 2 player can sit on a point is easier. but a team with only 1 bunker like class and 4 zerker can be kitten fun and total ownage if the zerkers are skilled

yeah, but with matchmaking as it is people are more often then not bad. also coordinating rotations for 4 zerkers is very hard without TS.

so more than 3 celestial is fine? but more than 3 zerker isnt?

yes. most teams will run 2/3 point holders and the rest dps. no zerker amulet builds can hold points (be serious), so you can’t have more than 3 zerk for a good team comp.

sure, some teams run 4 zerk, but they are on headsets. being in a pug match where only one player can be on point is awful, you need a minimum of 2.

@robertul: the amount of stability resses and stomps i’ve boonripped and interrupted with mine tell a different story. AOE rip 5 boons, and AOE boonrip + AOE knockback are super strong, and neuter builds like d/d ele. i tried toolkit and slick shoes, but neither seemed to work as well. you can combo the mine with overcharged to combo really well. throw mine > overcharged > throw mine is awesome when you get the cds to work so you can mine twice in a row.

i have been playing with the automated response + self regulating defenses combo for a long time now, and it never gets me killed. it’s actually let me win teamfights and 1v2s that i should have lost. if you play knowing that at 25% you go invulnerable and get your heal back you get great use out of it. sure, you no longer contest but at least you don’t die. also, if you ran elixir s regularly you still run into the same proplem. self regulating defenses allows me to always get off the healing turret combo at 25% (unless i’m full of condi, but that would screw me even without it) giving me a second wind that is so important for the build. a fight is not serious till your self regulating defense pops, before then they have not even got close to killing you. you have to play keeping it in mind and use HT knowing you will have it back at 25%. if it’s getting you killed then you are not used to the trait enough, and i would say untill you are you can’t play my build properly.

when i try and theorycraft a build i never try and make it fun for my opponents to fight. quite the opposite. if you fought me and thought it was demoralising and awful i would consider it a success.

heavy on point AOE, CC, healing and boonrip. self regulating defenses and automated medical response give you an incredible second wind that has allowed me to turn many fights around (healing turret blast + super elixir + spam bombs after elixir s wears off). the build is a lot stronger in practice than on paper, and the mines rock. trust me.
