Celestial engineers and eles that have the sustain of a bunker and the damage of a full condi dmg or almost full zerker spec, thus never die yet need to be 2v1’d to kill.
And the horrible matchmaking system that seems to think it should pair you with people that enter pvp for the first time while facing full pre-mades or even tournament teams.
I suppose I am a noob.
But I just think the current meta is the worst one we have ever had, and that every day is another nail in pvp’s coffin.
cele engi is your wipping boy if you can play a condi build well, or gung ho with hammer warrior and stun locked them. cele ele, well until the nerf ya just gotta keep up poison and kill em. engi is easy to kill. if you ever need help whisper me, I even have some super op secret builds I can give ya. got a p/p thief build that should never loose if you can kite well.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with cele engie and medi guard. theyre right where they need to be.
I don’t mind cele-engis at all (they’re being played like crazy atm, but there are enough counters that ppl will probably soon start playing again).
But the undodgeable Hammer5+JI and Scepter immobilize are pretty stupid…. At least make the scepter immob a projectile you can actually dodge.
at least cele engi cc’s itself. medi has no such balance
I love how ya’ll are hating on skills that you’ve never seen the tool tips for. regardless of what they do they are going to give you stealth from trapper runes, so stealth dragon hunter is going to be a thing in WvW roaming and got dang will it be gnarly.
Wolfineer, a highly skilled roamer who writes great guides recently transferred to Gandara with his guild. he is enjoying it immensely and he gets great fights for his videos. I would go there.
I’m on Crystal Desert, but that’s NA- and regardless me and my pals roam in edge most of the time. knocking foes to their deaths, angry whispers, endless people to kill, and those funny little uplvls make for a good time.
I get very few angry whispers, but my pal who has only been playing a few months and mains thief gets quite a few. we get more when we spawn camp in EotM. our tactic is always to reply with something short and sparky ‘LOL’ L2P scrub’ ‘thanks dad’ etc, and laugh it off. but we are stoners who think rustling jimmies is really funny.
TLDR: you rustled some needs jimmies and he is jumping up and down on his computer chair in rage. pretty funny actually.
Hello guys i play gw2 for like 5 months and i only play pvp as thief and mesmer and i can say 1 thing the Medi dps guards are cancer if the guardian knows what to do vs a class they can easily kill everything and i mean everything from condition builds to zerker
when they will get nerfed kitten
I’m still wrecking them with celestial bombs. regardless, you’re playing the two most meta glassy builds (they are ultra glass) so you are criminally easy to own. perhaps it’s time for you to learn the second important element of pvp, not dying. learning how to kill is only part of the equation, ya gotta learn how to survive too.
It would attract a lot of wow players so why not do it, specially how awful wow pvp is right now at it’s current state. I don’t get anet’s filosophy of doing things sometimes.
That’s what I said… They have such a great opportunity AND set up (no need for grinding gear to be competitive)… It blows my mind that its not a priority… I’d flip my kitten if I was a higher up in Anet. Like yeah lets NOT take advantage of this great opportunity by introducing the most basic and popular game mode that requires only a few players to start up!
I can’t even…….. -breath-
reminds me of the time they were going to make each commander tag colour 300g.
If FC is dead it is because people betrayed their server and left, that is not for me. I have been on FC since I transferred from EU Gunnar’s Hold 3-4 months into playing the game. I have no desire to play for anyone else but the Ferg.
I and the rest of my guild were all like that too. played on Fergs since week 1, the wvw community was cool, but too many guilds left. it became work and our guild leader was having to carry the server so much of the time. it stopped being fun, and we left. the grass is much greener, Fergs not even close to real WvW. good luck finding 10 other people and not getting rolled by a 20man ‘blob’.
server pride is just not worth it imo.
considering engineer was designed to be weak vs cc, no.
No, engineer was designed to be weak against Conditions, and solid against CC.
No. it was designed to be weak against both. it doesn’t have few stunbreakers and awful stab (only on thumper 1sec and B toss. the elites with stab are a joke) by accident. engineer is weak vs cc and conditions.
The engineers defense against cc is in their traits, not just by pure stability like other classes. Protection injection, cloaking device, stabilized armor, leg mods etc.
only cloaking device actually defends against cc. the rest mitigate damage when you arrive cc’d, which makes sense for a profession that is weak against cc. sure, you may get stun locked, but you will take less damage when you are.
considering most engineer builds run a single stunbreak and no stability I would definitely say they are weak vs it.

It doesn’t matter. If they ever do add it, it’ll be all “ArenaNetted” up… Like skyhammer or courtyard with like 100 bounce pads, glass panels, 90% LoS and no flat terrain. and thieves will be able to teleport from the center of the field to a spot that would otherwise take 3 minutes to get to. Its how they do “creative”.
a medium sized ring, with two opposite gates and a few columns (for LOS, to avoid duel lich, duel power ranger etc) is all ya need. a simple space to let the combat shine, with just enough terrain to make it interesting.
it’s not like it’s 20v20 GvG, it’s not that hard to implement.
Of course that’s all it needs. I’m not saying whats practical. I’m saying IF they did it, what they’d do. Then be like “SEE?! Its not even popular!” Whomp…
maybe Hugh and Co will be a bit more humble when stronghold bombs in the competitive scene. oh, and it will it’s an npc death race- clutch npc kills #npcsports
considering engineer was designed to be weak vs cc, no.
we are getting the ‘road’ that pulses stability with the revenant anyhow.

Too stronk of idea. More Conquest for you, sir?
it’s not just conquest anymore, soon we will get the long awaited npc speed kill race.
Helseth made this vod commentary of 2 games in the monthly ESL GO4 finals which I think is really useful for a mesmer that is new to PvP to see how you play properly as well as to a veteran mesmer. He explains a lot of the things which most people don’t catch on official streams but actually impact the game a lot.
If you’re having troubles using your portal and moa well (which isn’t too straightforward often) I think you will learn a lot from this regarding those two things. Also it has a lot of good information for anyone who wants to compete on high level, no matter which class.
Watch it hereIs it me or is he exploiting stow wpn?
it’s called cancelling skills. it’s something I’m still working on, but it improves your play vastly. it’s not an exploit, all top players do it.
2v2 Annihilation, best of three.
it’s a game mode asked for by numerous people, in numerous threads. it provides a good alternative to 1v1, which does not work with current balance and class design. it’s a popular requested feature, and would have short queues and it would be easy for players to find teams. the maps would be small, and there needs to be only one. no map mechanics, just a simple arena. from where I sit as a guild wars 2 pvp combat enthusiast it seems a no brainer to add it.
so I ask, why not? are there any reasons anet should not add 2v2 Annihilation?
Watched it live. Definitely great analysis. The one time him and Texbi were commentators for pug quest was both entertaining and educational. Of course we will never see anything like that again lol.
I understand that shoutcasting is mostly about calling out what is happening rather than deep analysis. Perhaps someone who is knowledgeable about high level strategy would make a youtube channel dedicated to analyzing past matches.
Yishis style pvp commentary with slow time and everything would be amazing. Helseth is indisputably an excellent player, and as far as I’m concerned very entertaining. perhaps QQmore.net could cover tactics in interviews with top players, or even in a series.
it’s a hard game, and the community could really do with some improvement. I would like to hope that more resources could improve this.
I think if you can solo a tower in a matchup your tier should be considered dead haha.
oh hey ‘wa$te money’ right? you were on fc with us right? man, bad times if you were dude. so empty so dead.
I hate when I get CY/TDM when playing unranked, but I will queue for it if it was separated. Being in a different queue would mean everyone in the match wanted to be there and will be running builds tailored to winning team fights rather than holding points.
A separate queue would be nice on its own but if they do decide to do more, here are some other suggestions:
-Change TDM to Annihilation. No respawns, wipe the enemy team. Maybe best 2 out of 3.
-Add new maps including one that has a large open space.
-2v2 and 3v3 queues.
I don’t know about annihilation. if I’m on TS with guildies, and no one is throwing the match by running off into 1v5 it’s pretty easy to win with your team only getting one or two deaths. I play with people who primarily wvw, so they know how to flash res, interrupt stomps, use support skills, and focus well. I find trying to not die and to deny the enemy kills on your team members is the best way to win. they can’t get points if they can’t kill you.
however, best of 3 annihilation would be ideal for 2v2 games. ideally you would be able to queue for multiple matches in a row and get rewards for win streaks. man, 2v2 arena needs to be in the game. it would be so perfect.
I can’t see instant cast skills getting removed from the game. still, the nerf to thieves it would cause would be pretty kek.
in regard to overcharged shot, if you give it a cast time remove the self cc.
I think dead server is in eyes of the beholder. Tier 4 looks dead to me, but its only in comparison with Tier 2. What is FC like T8? Gonna have to bite the bullet and transfer man. kitten is where the population has condensed into. Its also where all the action is.
it’s screwed dude. I would be on EB for like three hours and we would not have more than 5 players. this was super common back when I was on it. FC is dead.
it is fanart. I forget where it’s from, but I read the dudes tumblr post or whatever it was about it.
To be honest I don’t think Team Death Match would do that badly as far as queue time. The games tend to be pretty short compared to a Conquest game that isn’t a complete blowout.
If anything it may attract all the track farmers away from Conquest and to a game mode that requires less rotation skill and more combat skill.
plus you can queue with a full guild team and actually have a really long winstreak. I win nearly every courtyard game I play with my guild, we could go for mad streaks.
Thief is designed to have a death-grip on the burst-roamer goal, and ANet won’t let anybody else come to the party that can truly compete. It has been required on every truly competitive team, forever, and that is not going to change. It is certainly a safe bet.
However, if you are soloQ-ing, have a backup like warrior in-case you get stuck on a team with a bunch of other thieves. They don’t scale too well past the first one.
if you learn warrior and thief and switch when appropriate you should have a good time.
I think the real question is who were these scrub lords who were defeated by turret engies pre-nerf who could just sit amongst there turret and not die? Whenever I ran turret and got in a fight, I would find myself quickly with all skills on cool down and an empty stamina bar (and those were the fights I won). Turret engie certainly wasn’t a super hard build, but it wasn’t mindless, and it certainly wasn’t particularly devastating to anyone with an IQ above 70.
Now I am going to have to struggle to find a use for turrets, since no amount of placement is going to keep a flame or thumper from being a wasted skill slot now. I guess rifle is still good for its toolbelt in a static discharge if nothing else. If only we could do boons…then perhaps team up with a ranger using healing spring…
Kittening noobs, always ruining the game crying for nerfs instead of learning to play…
It’s really funny when the used to be turret engis call other players noobs.
they kinda were though… I played like 10 games of it and people just ate all of your cc’s, never focused rocket turret, and would go stand beside the thumper when on half health. most players in the game are dumb and will teleport into enemy AOE etc. turret engi was not hard to beat if you think while you fight, unless you were running glass melee- and gosh, if someone is running a counter dont QQ avoid them. I don’t QQ about condition ranger when I’m on my engi, I just refuse to fight them 1v1.
actually spamming your skills will get you killed if you face anyone decent… the system might not have mana but it does punish you by putting spells on CD… all skills are different and have different purposes; if you spam them you might not have the right spell when you need it the most
i honestly don’t see what would be the good thing about adding mana; i used to play wow which did have that system and there was literary nothing good about it
I agree. if you think it’s all about spamming you just are not that good at the game. some professions like engineer reward fast play, but that does not mean stupid play. conversely with a warrior’s stances if you waste them you will lose. it’s a very fast game, and while not everyone likes it you’ve got to remember that this is not the only game out there. play something slower if it’s too fast for ya’.
I’m guessing it’s going to be over a month from now. I can’t see us getting anything patch wise since they are changing all of the traits.
multiple game modes = multiple queues
if a game mode is unpopular the wait times are long, and anet knows not to add more maps for it. conversely, if the mode is popular the queues are short and anet knows to give it attention. it’s so simple.
we need 2v2 best of three arenas, and matchmaking needs to balance teams by amulets also.
people who won’t interrupt stomps
people who insta down as soon as they enter the teamfights
people who let rangers freecast
you get some pretty incredible whispers when you and a pal spawn camp them. EotM is for goofing off, and ktraining. why remove it? it’s here and it’s popular, don’t go there if you don’t like it. I hate fractals and LS, but guess what I do buddy? oh yeah, I don’t play them and don’t make forum posts asking for them to be removed.
I am on Ferguson’s Crossing. We are going on six or seven weeks with the same server matchup, and things have gotten VERY stale. This week almost no one is showing up, and the people who are don’t care, are just there to knock out dailies. When we care we can crush the other two servers and have but it seems like as the weeks drag on, fewer people care. I see fewer and fewer of the WvW regulars who we rely on.
Are there any plans to do anything about this or is it all supposed to be fixed by the expansion?
I am sorely disappointed right now with the game, I generally only WvW and its gotten so dull and painful to play that my play time is pretty much daily’s and that’s it. I presume just about everyone else is having a similar issue?
[Nors] left this dead server for CD months ago. it was the best thing we ever did. fc is dead, you need to transfer if you want things to change.
2v2 or 3v3 would be great, but the game is just not balanced for 1v1 so serious 1v1 could never work. there is a reason the tournaments are 2v2 not 1v1.
The reason turret engineers die when you kill the turrets is because they’ve sacrificed every single utility to run turrets. No stealth, no escapes, nothing but the turrets.
Also you just described every defensive build, which is what turret engineers were.
Which is why I say again, turret engis were never good to begin with!! And they weren’t just defensive build, they were full on offense as well especially against any zerkers.
of course they hit zerker hard. everyone hits zerkers hard. the name ‘glass cannon’ doesn’t mean nothing ya’ know. turret engi is a tanky build, it just happens that zerk builds are so squishy that even tank builds do a lot of damage to them.
as someone who didn’t play zerk (cele bombs) turrets don’t hit that hard at all. never found them that hard to deal with either.
compare the 16sec traited gear shield to what the warrior’s traited block will become: 3sec block 20sec cooldown, reflects missiles, might on block.
I know which one I would take.
Might be worth annotating the loss of Dogged March.
I already take shield master, so I’m over the moon. it’s my favourite change, up there with the mortar, warr heal fixes, and the shout trait merge. it’s gonna be amazing, so much might and reflects when you get focused by the whole team.
plus, the engineer needs to invest in tools to get gear sheild that low, so they loose alternatives also. there is always opportunity cost when you have to trait something.
(edited by choovanski.5462)
I used my tomes to level a second warrior, a second engineer, ranger and a guardian. I’ll also have enough to get a lvl80 revenant as soon at I get HoT. they are very useful imo.

i main engineer and warrior, and have been playing them since beta. the reason i like these classes is that they are both sturdy professions, have many leap skills, abundant cc, have strong melee and ranged options, and have an aesthetic i enjoy (heavy armour, explosions, guns, axes, shields and hammers are my thing). i have played every other class and have all but necromancer (no leaps won’t play it) but keep coming back to those two. each class is unique and i suggest you play those that you enjoy, both playstyle and flavor wise.
my suggestions are thus: go to metabattle.com and read all of the meta builds. choose those that you like the look of and go into HotM and try them out on npcs and in hotjoin (now called practice). hopefully you can find one that you enjoy both the flavor and playstyle of. once you have, and you should be able to, the next step would be to watch a youtube guide for the build, or class. metabattle often has a link on the build page to videos, and if not then youtube should have one. once you become decent with the build then i would suggest trying out nonmeta builds and having fun.
if you decide on warrior or engineer you are more than welcome to whisper me in game for advice. i have access to a private arena, and a large amount of players who would be happy to 1v1 you on multiple classes.
ah, but here is the simple advice. meditation guardian is extremely fun and strong. tap dat mouse has a great tips and tricks video on it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vgYoBVnXC8&ab_channel=TapDatMouse . i prefer greatsword to hammer, but you can’t understate the value of hammer after watching the video. regardless meditation guardian is a build i think all players should try. it’s easy to pick up, but has versatile multi use skills that reward thought and skill, and is very fun regardless of how good you are with it.
as long as you focus on improving and think outside of the box with your skills you will be able to do awesome things on any class.
Thanks my friend, that is awesome of you. Yes Ive actually seen some of tapthatmouse’s videos and he is the reason Iam swaying for Guardian. Even so engineer looks extremly fun aswell. I’d love to pick a class and join you. I’m the only one among my friends returning to GW2 and thus I’d love to meet and play with new people
I have no characters so can easily move to any servers
I’m on crystal desert on NA. I would recommend making a guardian and engineer. having two mains is extremely useful I’ve found, although I would recommend focusing more on one than the other to begin with. the guild I’m a member of does: guild raids, GvG, guild missions, pvp, and 1v1s. we all use the servers teamspeak.
if you do not have the pvp icon at the top of your screen on one of your new character you can use the portals in lions arch to enter HotM.
I have a hated engineer build you might like. many guildies ask me not to play it in 1v1 because of how hard it is to beat. it has a specific but relatively straightforward playstyle.
best of luck with pvp. hope I can have been a help, and can continue to do so.

tbh the way i see it unless you can run full team on ts, the system forces you otherwiser to afk in 20+ matches and lose them intentionally so your mmr goes down and you get decent matches again
if you have above 50% w/l ratio then game punishes you and 4v5/3v5 or just very 1-sided games are garanteed every match heh
i am not quite sure (besides supposed lack of players) why it is the thing in gw2
in every other game i played before, the higher rated you were, the higher rated were also your teammates and enemies; in gw2 – the higher rated you are the lower rated are your teammates and higher rated are your enemies… :|
that is the crux of the issue, you are losing because the game trying to make you lose. solo is not that great, i feel like you are forced to run carry builds (tough builds that carry other players though support in teamfights) if you want a good chance at winning most of the time. you don’t need a full team on ts, having one or two people who you can count on to run good builds and do things like interrupt stomps goes a long way.
if you’re on NA feel free to whisper me if im online. i’m part of a large WvW guild that is very active in our server community (CD), and pvps a lot. we run duos, full teams all sorts. even have an arena we use for 1v1s to build skill. it’s not uncommon to have over 10 of us in there all 1v1ing and giving each other feedback on TS.
queueing with 2-3 players doesn’t help much; i been doing it with probably best players on EU – what happens is:
- you just get paired with even worse players (that sit afk at spawn whole match) and or just never have 5th and even 4th player
- even if you somehow manage to carry that, you will just face same high rated full premade (see ESL teams) every single matchfrom the player perspective, the game just wants you to quit game and makes everything possible for that
doesn’t matter for company thought, we already bought the game and they already made profit off us so meh
i find 3 or 4 players to be the best. 5 is ideal of course, but knowing that half your team are running good builds are are not morons really helps, or at least i find it does. i should also mention we are nearly always in teamspeak also (im in a big WvW guild, and know lots of people from the community so all the people i know use the same TS). that being said, i am on NA and from both what i have heard, and from the quality of tournament teams, seems to have a much lower skilled community.
i don’t understand why the game tries to make you loose and have a 50% win rate. ideally you should be matched with people who are as close to your skill level as possible. players should not be matched up with those who are much lower rank than they are. rabbits vs sharks and dragons is just not fair.
you should be able to win as many games in a row as you can. i see reason to stack odds against players to try and force a loss. it’s weird and mean. if the objective is to stop win and loss streaks then there is a simple solution: just match the players who are winning with each other. have it so having won a match recently increases the chances of you being matched with and against players who have also recently won also. do the same for those on losing streaks. this will break both win and loss streaks without having to stack the odds against players.
(edited by choovanski.5462)
When it comes to the purpose of defending a point from (y/s)olocappers it had a purpose, in the same way that a scout in tf2 didn’t waltz straight onto a point filled with sentries and stickybombs, if thieves have a hard time with turrets for example its a natural counter to their ability to zip across the map and cap any undefended ones in the blink of an eye. Its fragile speedster vs mighty glacier.
Now the fact that they didn’t scale is unfortunate, and i would prefer if they where deployable kits with a larger number of skills and tricks, meaning that the engineer still had the superior firepower as long as you are on his point and playing by his rules because i do like to have power over my own abilities. People also seem to strongly dislike anything that doesn’t keel over and die after the first rotation is done, thats why the anger cannon is now back on tracking celengis and celes and so on.
had to quote you for signature, i hope it’s ok. you nailed the attitude of so many players in these forums. they only run glass cannon and want everyone else to do the same so they can kill them easy. they complain about the ‘massive damage’ of celestial and bunker builds, which actually doesn’t exist. the damage feels massive because they are running a glass cannon build, a connection they just don’t make.
I don’t understand where everyone is coming from when they say that the healing turret is useless now. I use my healing turret as I always have: If I only need a little healing, I put it down, overcharge it and then pick it up. If I need a big heal I put it down, over-charge it and then detonate it to blast the water field. I haven’t seen any loss of effectiveness in my healing turret since the patch, even in SPvP.
I’m with Gern here. if I end up leaving my turret sitting it’s because I screwed up. if I’m not detonating it I’m picking it up immediately to get that 15sec cooldown ticking.
HT isn’t OP, it’s just like with Healing Signet on warrior- the alternatives are just bad.
I litterally don’t have time to overcharge it anymore because there is a slight delay between deployment and overcharge, and as it’s dead before I overcharge, I certainly can’t pick it up.
Noone is arguing they wanted to leave it on the ground for 10 minutes, but they’d at least like the option to overcharge which isn’t a possibility anymore in some circumstances (particularly showing up in PvP).
Consider, you’re on point, you get immobilized and there’s a well underneath you / ranger barrage / ele whatever it is they do. You think, I’d really like to not be here, oh hey my healing turret can remove a condition and heal me… that’s pretty handy. You deploy it and it dies before you can overcharge.
i have heal on right click and detonate on middle mouse. i find i can get the overcharge off, however i don’t encounter a lot of power necros in pvp and can see how those wells could be very problematic.
on the healing turret being OP, i disagree. it looks overpowered for the same reason the healing signet does, the alternatives are vastly under powerd. engineer has strong heals to make up for it’s weak condition clear, but only the healing turret does so. apart from medkit (in some situations) i would say the other two are never worth it when untraited.

I like courtyard, no buffs, its more about your composition and individual skill, and the kitten zerk builds are fun to watch there, they just die everywhere, best map 10/10
i’ve had games with no deaths on my team. loads of clutch saves on teammates. peeling, interrupting stomps, and good use of support skills are so important for success. it’s just one long midfight for the whole game. it forces people to help their teammates in fights which is something most pvp players i see need to work on a lot. all my guildies from the WvW guild i’m in enjoy it deeply.
not to be snarky, but if you think it’s a faceroll zergfest you probaly can’t play all that well.
Lol…I don’t mean disrespect but…engi and war are in your signature, it’s common knowledge that shoutwar and engi holding hands is what you will see the most in PvP..especially courtyard, if by “force people to help their teammates” you mean warriors spamming shout, holding hands with engies, spamming node, supply crate off CD….yeah I can see why you like this map
dont worry bud, all my pals who multi class like it too. ele, necro, mesmer, guard, ranger all of these classes rock in courtyard. only class that fails is thief. had some of my best games queued with a pal on zerk necro and another on cele staff ele.
yeah, i play engi and warrior and i run tough builds with loads off cc. it’s just what i like, been playing both of classes since beta. i like rifles, hammers, leaps, explosions, healing my allies, and stunlocking people. i would play them regardless of if they were meta or not, not that i even run the meta builds (i learnt them, but prefer my own).
using group heals and condition clear on cooldown because your team needs it is a good idea bud. yeah, so maybe i do ‘spam’, maybe i am constantly using skills, but i’m not doing it mindlessly. guildwars 2 is a fast active game, especially the engineer class which needs constant skill use to be the most effective. i don’t know why you would expect me not to use shouts on cd if my team has condis and are not all full health. lets use throw mine as an example: it has an 18sec cd and AOE knockbacks and rips one boon. i often use this skill on cooldown, or almost on cooldown because i can get good use out of it every 18 or so seconds. if i can get good use out of a skill i’m gonna use it, plus the faster i use it the faster i can use it again.
as for supcrate on cooldown, nah dude only scrubs do that. it’s a big AOE stun with area denial. amazing for securing stomps, interrupting them, securing ground in a fight, and many other things. you wanna get use out of that 180sec cd.
On these arguments, we could say that foefire is rewarding well defensive setups..
In what way is it a feature of foefire? Any current map (well aside from courtyard) favours bruiser setups with mobility bursters who can quickly rotate and add to a node fight.
Actual meta builds have lot of stability, blocks and escapes, i’m not sure it would be so easy anymore to kick off map..
Aside from war and guard, there’s not a lot of reliable stability. And even for those it’s quite easy to bait out stunbreakers and then just abuse the CC. It shifts all the balance towards select few professions\builds, and it is especially stupid concerning the current “press one button and get into the game to play how you want” mentality.
On foefire, if you got a bad setup against a meta/defensive one, that’s probably it( and you can’t avoid opponents from pushing lord)
And that’s why it is good. One build – one queue. If anet wants to add different metas and mechanis they should do it in a separate queue.
NO, what you say it’s untrue!
On other maps, true mobility is acquired with precise tactics in mind; foefire is just a free for all snowball map that requires very little in terms of strategy and plans, just win mid and zerg other point, so defensive comps with thief/mesmer or LB ranger are chosen over others. On other maps, if you zerg you get screwed by more clever opponents, on foefire there is very little you can do to win unless you win every single team fight, 3 pts , short distance, take a def comp and zerg from A to B..easy and far too effective, reason why foefire is always voted : a cheap map that rewards cheap bunkering and easy to apply range burst
i would hesitate to say that winning all the teamfights requres no skill. also ‘cheap bunkering’, buddy you know you should have 2-3 builds that can hold a point in your team. hardly ‘cheap’ when it’s required for a team.
‘easy to apply ranged burst’ sounds like ya’ been letting rangers freecast. those rangers are using plans and tactics, like running a build suited to the map and using terrain to their advantage. there is an EU team that i really enjoy watching in the Go4s (i forget their name) who always have a player switch to power ranger for foefire. in one game he was left to freecast for nearly the whole game and absolutely decimated. letting power rangers freecast is one of the worst things you can do.
foefire can snowball hard, it’s a difficult map to play. rotations are very important, as you have experienced when you were ‘zerged’. the map rewards players who teamfight well and rotate fast.
I like courtyard, no buffs, its more about your composition and individual skill, and the kitten zerk builds are fun to watch there, they just die everywhere, best map 10/10

your name is Brian, you are 15 and live in London. you bought guild wars 2 one month ago and have been really enjoying your necromancer in pve. you like the well of blood and the signets. stealing health is really cool, you’re like a dark vampire. on a whim you give pvp a try. you try and assemble a similar build to what you were using in pve and que up for unranked. you are verbally bullied by more experienced players in the first match (gw2 has such kittene match making that it does put the rabbit in with the sharks). even after muting them they still insult you in chat. the rest of your next few games are similar, causing you to never come back to pvp again.
So I guess this doesn’t happen already? Just without VOIP? It’s easy to make a story and tailor it to your theory but ultimately communication is key to any competitive sport or game period. Muting or blocking is always an option and this solves any horror story I hear about every couple posts from a super negative/#glasshalfempty/sensitive person. I would say Brian becomes familiar with certain peoples voices who que up with him regularly and they get into a flow/rhythm and decided to be friends and form a team. Eventually they go on to win WTS and they thank it all to VOIP. See stories are easy to make up.
verbal abuse is much worse than text. sure VOIP brings benefits, but it also brings some big cons. as anet i would not want to introduce it due to cost and damage to player retention, and increased server pressure. it’s a double edged sword and can do both harm and good, but if i were anet i would err on the side of caution.
i complete alot of pvp reward tracks and do a decent amount of WvW, and i open my chests on 80s in WvW. i have over 100 magic find and i don’t even get one exotic most weeks. the last one i got was a speargun, stingray or something. i got that over a week ago.
i’ve had this account since beta and have never got anything of note (gold worth wise, i got my decent share of ascended gear 1 weapon box, 3 armor, and a bunch of rings).

I should have been more clear, by powerful I mean a viable alternative to core spec.
Something I start to fear, won’t be the same for all professions, as some will get shafted..once again…oh and I have no doubt that engi specialization will be amazing, nobody ever think that engi could get something not amazingTruth be told, in my heart I know the professions that are at risk of being left out in the cold : necromancers, elementalist and warrior
who cares about the specialization for warrior? zerker physical builds are about to become a thing finally. warrior changes look like they are going to fix all bad heals and utilites leaving us with only one bad choice, the rifle (even duel axe is getting love with the +300 ferocity change). making warrior builds is gonna be so fun, each specialization they have looks worthwhile and awesome. dang it’s cool.
revenant looks like it might push engi out of meta if we start to see a lot of them. we have to remember it’s the current lack of conditions and stability that let’s engineer succeed. an engineer is a free kill for any decent condi build, and a mace/axe revant with Mallyx for condi, and Jalis for the stability road should have very little trouble with an engineer. the revenant can negate the engineers cc, load him up with condis and draws power from the condis the engineer puts on him. it’s scary stuff.
necro could get the full set of shouts anet mentioned to go with it’s greatsword. that could be quite beastly, and the curret zerker necro is an utter beast if you babysit it. i peel for my pal on my warrior when he’s on necro and he can kill anything.
i really don’t know about ele, could be a good burst melee option i don’t know. i’ve never actually been able to kill another player on my ele so i doubt i’ll ever see success with with it #worsteleworldwide.
Thanks for the input. I’m simply a bit disappointed because I like using outside contraptions against the other team like the trebuchet and skyhammer.
…and who doesn’t like pushing people to their deaths right?
you would have a field day in EotM
That reset is just too strong. I don’t see why no one will want to take that when you get too many options with it.
That is the problem with making something so strong…its either way-OP and everyone needs it, or you give it an incredibly long CD and it becomes useless.
Also, I too am worried most mesmers will be forced to take chronomancer, even if just for the extra shatter and auto-renewal of phantasms on-death/shatter. Just thinking about how OP it will be to cast tides of time…shatter once, phantasms/clones auto-renew, shatter immediately again, reset with tides of time (does this bring the initial clones back to life?), and do it all again. With IP baseline that is an insane amount of burst possible, plus great defensive utility on-par or better than an invuln. Mesmers are pretty close to a balanced level with their rate of production of shatter-fodder atm, but these traits/skills are a whole new ballgame.
While this makes some very interesting gameplay, its going to be a very big challenge to balance.
Biggest fear: they reach a relatively balanced level, but some specific combo is found that is way OP (like some 1-shot mechanic) and they are forced to nerf key functionality into oblivion.
The biggest fear is that not all specializations will be as powerful.
i don’t agree at all. i would prefer specializations to be an alternative as opposed to being a must have. i would hate for all classes to be forced into using them.
i intend to use the engineer specialization, hammers are awesome yo’- but i do want rifle and p/s to continue to be equally valuable, just different (the way things are now).
