I hate magic find. It’s a sign of how cash starved everyone is getting.
A friend of mine was telling me he wanted to craft a weapon that needed 350 charged lodestones. Not an epic, not an ascended, just a nice looking hammer.
The price of a charged lodestone is at least a gold….how can this be a good thing?
I havent seen a dye drop in a long time, which is a great shame as i always enjoyed getting one.
This drop rate clearly wasnt “fixed” but was instead “lowered massively”.
WvW is playing a major part in keeping GW2 players active and enjoying the game. However, without proper rewards, it cant keep doing that much longer.
It needs the time and effort that is being thrown at dungeons and Spvp (often with less results).
If GW2 was to be known for one thing, it should be WvW.
The problem is elementalists are dead all over the place no matter who plays them. If I am on my Mesmer I kill them on sight. If I am on my elementalist I run around sniping an enemy here and there and hopefully get away before anyone realize what’s going on.
Mesmers are powerful defensive units and are worth their weight in gold during set piece battles. sure an elementalist can run away from a mesmer at speed of light but at the end of the fight the mesmer is holding the CP.
The argument that elementalist have high ceiling is a sunken cost fallacy. We haven’t seen any evidence that they are superior, so we convince ourselves that they must be better because they are so hard to play.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Elementalists buffed significantly.
I agree here, as when i am not playing my elementalist i too go for them as the easy target. Heck, even when i am playing my ele, i will attack another ele and they almost always run off, its so ingrained into the playstyle.
The active defences are only effective if the enemy is clueless. A player who knows the ele class and who recognises the defences will easily overcome them. Time and experience are therefore not on the elementalist players side as when the enemy gets wise, the ele gets dead.
It would make a nice change from Orr, certainly.
I was really dissapointed with the “new chests” and was quite surprised at how lackluster the lost shores items were compared to the halloween ones.
The skins are just plain bad.
Rebreather skins – Very few people like the underwater experience and spend as little time there as they can. Even if they do, they wont really be able to see their rebreather unless they spin their camera to admire their floaty selves.
Shoulder skins – Everyone loves shoulder skins…but the lost shore shoulders are horrid.
Shark tooth weapons – The halloween chainsaw was animated and still fetches a price of 30 gold on the auction house. Shark tooth weapons look bad and arent even a decent weapon type (greatsword remains the vanity weapon of choice).
The Tiki Mask Shield – Shields are good vanity weapon items…an animated shield could be popular, or one that glows. This one…is just a nasty looking wooden “thing”.
Tribal Armour – Lots of people want the tribal set (which is in the game but not available to players). Why wasnt this brought into the game, its perfect for lost shores and would actually go well with the otherwise aweful weapons and shield.
The little boat in a bottle – Its clear that some work went into this and its quite nice. It remains one of the few good cosmetic skins of the lost shores patch.
Pets – These are quite good, especially the little family of mini-karka that hop about. These are the only lost shores item commanding prices comparable to the halloween items. Still, i dont think people want to chance RNG to get these.
Overall, bad items, bad method of distribution, when halloween’s items were probably more popular and in more people’s hands. It could easily have been done better.
I think this patch is the last straw for many elementalists. It simply isnt a class at all, its like playing a crippled version of the other classes.
Less health, less armour, more work needed to get even passable damage….i dont play guildwars to have one hand tied behind my back. How can i enjoy that? How can arenanet not see this?
I don’t know why people are whining about Ele’s. The only thing that got “nerfed” for them was Tornado. Builds based around conjures aren’t viable anyway, so nothing else got changed that is negative.
Also, Necrofavoritism, anyone?
So you missed the part where bunker ele, the only viable spvp ele, was utterly destroyed?
I missed the part where people were told/learned that bunker ele is the only way to play spvp and do it well.
Well in that case you dont understand how poor the elementalist is at all then, case closed.
You know, most of us chose to play that class to deal damage, maybe to support. It’s a sad thing that the only way the class shone was to bunker. Few of us even liked that, but it was better than nothing and now nothing is all we have.
/cry
Adapt. Do something different; it’ll make you a better player.
Rolling warrior seems to be the preferred “adapt”. There is no other option within the elementalist class. Lowest health, lowest armour….nothing in return.
Adapt implies there is a way to cope and there is not.

Nerf to tornado – HA!
Its only value was to activate it and to turn it off….and now you cant even do that.
HA! – I laugh because i gave up on crying when it comes to ele. Arenanet hates my class, truly, they hate it.
oh yes and the only viable build we had is now gone. GREAT!
I am just disgusted by all this.
Why is it we have no fall reduction, lowest hit points and poor armour?
What is the point of our AOE when WvW turtles make it useless?
What do we bring to the table that a warrior with banners does not and yet they get armour and hit points as high as can be?
….and to nerf tornado. Please, you have to be making some sort of joke with that?
As an asura i get this a lot….as well as all my face items and masks hovering a foot in front of my face.
Keeping the price but making them exotic quality would be nice.
Quite so, as it is, they dont stand alone as gear, meaning that you also need to obtain a full alternate set and costly transmutation stones.
Considering the daft cost, they should at least be something that can be used on its own merits, or they should be like guild armour in that it comes with a built in transmute.
How many of those are bot accounts i wonder. WvW is already getting queues where 40 bots or more are sucking up slots in borderlands.
Add that to the 40 or so in each zone and thats a check of a lot of “active characters”.
Well, i`ll only be considering the T3 asura outfit when it doesnt make me bald.
Just because Zojja has no hair, doesnt mean i want to shave mine off too.
I think those Gunnars chaps should come join Piken Square.
I just realised that i have never been attacked by one of the dreaming bay sharks….maybe if they buffed them to be super scary, then that would improve things.
Thankyou all for your responses to my topic so far. Good posts above and well worth reading. (Eg Lensar for monetarisation suggestions and Stiv for thoughts on Spvp)
One of the interesting things about the situation is that WvW is now so influential that the status of a server in the rankings is having major effects on server migration. This is yet another sign of how WvW is a mover and shaker in the very foundations of each server community. It is often a source of server identity and that is a double edged sword, with so called “zombie servers” whose guilds have abandoned them and that are doomed to slide down the rankings.
WvW can effectively wipe out a server population and yet arenanet is frustratingly slow to accept its importance. We remain the most loyal of the players and perhaps the least demanding as we can use the same maps over and over, without getting tired as dungeon runners do when they exhaust content.
While us being less demanding can be “easy mode” for development, it can also be a strength as it means rewarding us with content gives much higher return for much less time invested. We are also a large supply of players that can be marketed to.
Heck, even the bots are getting into the WvW action these days and i think its only a matter of time before they start actively seeking us out in combat rather than killing just mosquitos (anyone seen those underground “swimmer bots” yet? Imagine those coming after you).
I dont see “we removed orbs” as the kind of attention that is valuable. It’s more a statement of “we couldnt stop hacks so we are removing content”. Police dont destroy my car as they cant stop people stealing it, for example and i wouldnt be grateful to them if they did.
“Rewards from dungeons were not desirable enough” – indeed, but WvW has a cripplingy poor reward ratio, especially as everything costs so much to upgrade….even using the very tokens that are so hard to find in the first place. This never seems to have been recognised and that recognition and some action on it is what we deserve.
I see a lot of talk of new “content” meaning that more dungeons and occasionally pvp maps are added, but i seldom see a mention of WvW getting developer time.
Arenanet have been “surprised at the popularity of WvW” and while dungeons are often run and then forgotten, the borderlands and EB remain a constant pull, despite the rewards for going there being laughable. It remains one of the most fun and social parts of the game, with large communities pulling together to battle other servers, often using teamspeak and forums that would put dungeon runners to shame.
Looking at warcraft, there are still people out there fighting on those old maps like alterac valley after years of the same old….yet it is still fun. Guildwards offered those players a chance to do something they had heard of on other games, Realm V Realm and they came here. I am one of those and i have no regrets as I have fought in battles here that were the stuff of legend and i know there is more and better to come.
So what i am hoping is that dev time is given towards developing the WvW experience to reward our commitment. Heck, if that means some things going in the cash shop, like banners we can whack in the ground that look nice, then so be it. At least its something, but i would also like to see the badges we struggle to get be rewarded with something other than is the case now.
I got a full set of Orr Karma exotic armour and made my own weapon in the time it took me to save up badges for 2 items of pvp armour (and i didnt buy it, i spend my badge on siege weapons these days).
I dont run dungeons, i dont take part in normal pvp, but i love my WvW and i hope its time Arenanet realised how many like me there are out there and showed us some love.
Katie, dont forget that quite a few of us rp types are quite committed to WvW. I hate dungeons and love my server and i know i`m not the only one.
There are a good few roleplayers out there who enjoy the idea of being social and coordinating their tactics. Often the success of Piken Square is good communication and thats what we do best.
This also applies to our unguilded fighters, militia, pugs or whatever one choose to call them. There are a lot of piken players who may not be part of a dedicated WvW guild but they organise well and often i have seen them hold their ground when someone with a commander badge has fled like a coward.
The Piken community is strong for many reasons and the presence of WvW guilds is only part of the story of our success.
The orb bonus is just daft. Many servers stuggle as they are outnumbered and the orb bonus is given to the larger side, who swiftly take and secure them.
Three children beating up one is bad odds, but the game gives the three children body armour as reward for their superiority and considers that to be ok.
I see some people saying “legendaries are not for you” and so on.
Well, lets say that someone had made enough money in the initial stage of the game and that they had decided that “legendaries are not for anyone”, having gotten one already or just caring for being rich.
They play their hand carefully, buying up the precursors but only putting one down at a time, at a steadily higher price. They keep the price high by buying out those that are cheaper and perhaps putting one of their own down at a slighly lesser price, to look more appealing than the other they have there.
However they do it, you are likely looking at one person, perhaps a handful, owning every legendary precursor there is and likely that there will be. To the point where their price becomes so high, it simply cannot be attained….and they may well choose never to drop it, to ensure that they dont take a loss and that others appearing are set similarly.
This is, of course, compounded by the constant anti-farming measures being put in place and a great many gold sinks. The rich not only get richer, but the poor are moved further away from riches with each passing day. The people with legendaries would not get them, had they started their attempt today….but they are the same people who have them now and circumstances have changed around them.
Well, i have been slogging away in WvW since forever. I dont play alts and i dont run dungeons. Today i gave up saving for gear and just decided to spend the tokens on seige items. I`ll craft my armour and items instead because i make more silver than i do badges (and even thats not a lot).
It doesnt even look like good armour anyhow, especially compared to dungeon items.
They wont “go back to wow” they will simply choose a different class that gives better results for less effort. They shouldnt have to do that.
To make it short:
PvE? Yes! you will rock the kittening kitten out of every dungeon mob in about 2 seconds!
WvW? A lot of fun to nuke ppl on Castle walls but you’re pretty much kittened up in
any 1v1 Situation (had a thief killling me in 2 seconds allready >.> )sPvP? simply no! you will just cry…
Dungeon mobs….how would that go….well, thinking of AC, it would be “ele casts a spell, ele is one shotted”. Dungeons are not about damage, they are about durability as you cant deal damage if you are dead. Also – we dont get the damage dealing either.
Why push ten buttons for a mediocre reward when you can press between one and three for large one?
Thats the problem that elementalist has at the moment and the fact that they are having to spec into healbots just to get anywhere shows how grim their situation is.
I run an Asura guild and thus we have a lot of elementalists….or should i say we had a lot. They now run as rangers, mesmers, warriors and even and engineer. I only stick with elementalist because that character is the guild master and i do a lot of WvW. I hear a lot of comments like “i chew through mobs now” and “this is so much easier” and i know they arent coming back to their ele’s unless major changes are made.
I stick with my ele….but every time i`m in that downed state i am wishing i had a button to just kill my character instead of being so helpless. Oh yes and every time i do those wvw puzzles in the borderlands i am wondering why my class is the only one not to reduce fall damage.
I regret sticking with it most of all when someone whacks me for 14,000 damage and the best i can do to them is a fraction of that, despite me being “glass cannoned”. I get the glass alright, but the cannon isnt there.
Nothing is there except some AOE and if i didnt have that, i wouldnt exist.
I wouldnt take an elementalist to a dungeon and yet i am a level 80 elementalist. In our current state, we dont deserve to be there frankly. So i, like the others am sitting and hoping for a major buff.
We get poor hit points, mobs like to target us in preference to other players and our damage is sub par. I`d rather take a class with better hit points and which inexplicably does more damage and has better armour….ie any of them.
Things are definitely bad when groups advertise “need 2 more no ele” and arenanet must act now this is the case.
Should I stick with Ele and ride it out or is the balance we need only a pipe dream?

Very unhappy atm.
The costs for armour are way too high. Dungeons give very little and as an elementalist i get beaten up a lot, so my repair costs are painful even on a good day. Also, as an asura, most of my armour options are less detailed than those for other races and this leaves the racial gear as one of the few attractive options….and the cost on that is crazy.
I dont think that i even have the karma for a single piece of orr armour and i`ve been at 80 for a while now, doing events all over the place. It’s not hard, its just far too time consuming.
Considering that it triggers armour repairs, i strongly suspect that pvp death is counted as normal death.
Elementalist simply needs to do more damage or to have better control if it is to remain so squishy. The current control options last for a few seconds and frankly arent worth casting in the majority of cases.
I think your best bet is simply to get all the members to leave and to begin again. His refusal to step down does make me wonder what sort of people are in the guild anyhow if they could act like that.
It wont take long to recover from the loss and you will be able to get rid of an unpleasant member. For good measure, mention his actions to other guilds, just to give him the hint that holding a guild for ransom like this is wrong. Perhaps with a bit of community pressure, he may step down anyway.
Regrettably, its simply the case that elementalists dont do the damage they should. The trade off for being so squishy is to either have amazing control or high damage. Unfortunately, the control is sub-par and the damage is poor even compared to the auto attacks of other classes.
Elementalists have to roll all over the place and use all their abilities to fight well, but other classes can often stand still and fight multiple mobs without needing the same effort. As it stands, the elementalist is simply lacking.
