Seafarers bring all this on themselves, basically.
I`d personally love to be fighting Vizuna, but I don’t get an opportunity to do this. It was my forces that kicked out SFR from their EB holdings on Saturday night, ably assisted at the end by commander Dannetbh, who finally took the keep while I pulled back to repel vizuna golems at ogrewatch and anza.
The fireworks were not mine, but I applaud whoever put those out. They were a rather entertaining way to celebrate the zero tick and I salute your whimsy.
Did I want to be there? Not really. I spent much of my time that early evening trying to make some progress around durios and umber, attacking vizuna. I mixed this with taking stonemist when we could and must have spent a good two hours bashing heads with the vizuna zerg (with mixed results).
When I finally start to make progress, what happens? Seafarers takes anza with golems and I have to call the whole thing off. The very same thing happened last matchup where I tried my best to take on another server and seafarers just doesn’t get the message that they can help out.
So, with a heavy heart, I took my troops, reclaimed anza and then took the only course of action I had available to me which was to slowly wipe seafarers off the map, starting by taking and holding wildcreek. Vizuna, having much more sense, quickly saw the way the battle was going and understood what we were doing. They came and peered at us as we stood on the wildcreek battlements, trying to understand our intentions and for about 5 minutes we peered back, readying a defence and eventually we waved at one another and it became pretty clear that their intentions were to attack seaferers as well.
My hand was forced because all my work on fighting vizuna got no support from seafarers. I have no idea what SFR was doing that evening because routinely I was running into the entire vizuna force over and over at durios or stonemist. Seafarers only lurked out to take anza and undermine our efforts instead.
So I have done my part in trying to support equality and to take on the larger threat in EB. Vizuna can clearly see where piken troops are going and seafarers clearly doesn’t look at the map except to learn where piken is so they can backstab some empty towers here and there. Even after all that has happened I was hoping for piken and seafarers forces to unite, briefly, to fight the common foe and SFR didn’t act on that.
Lessons to learn perhaps.
Elite Pilot Kikki – Piken Friendlies Commander and Golemancer.
The problem is that there is a certain amount of gold one can have that is enough for most things, but not enough for the top cost items.
I find that whenever I have around 100 gold, I know I can buy pretty much any gemstore or blacklion item, but legendaries and such are so far away in cost that there isn’t a point in saving towards them. Essentially, its like gold ceases to be a currency when it comes to super costly stuff.
Its a real issue that there is no mid range to it. One is either dirt poor or super rich and its very clear in our minds that one doesn’t go from one category to the other without luck taking a big hand in it.
My problem with her is that her resources seem completely without limit or justification.
Now, to top it all off, it seems likely she is responsible for the construction of countless pillar devices all over the world.
She can basically pull what she needs from thin air, in no time and deploy it instantly, without anyone noticing. It would not be out of her apparent remit to simply make lions arch city vanish into thin air.
Very thankful for this news.
Had they put the greatsaw in there as some sort of purchasable or craftable item, then I think people would have done anything or bought pretty much any amount of candy corn for it.
Halloween = greatsaw for a great many people…..and it didn’t happen.
With the current Seafarer logic, Piken should hate Riverside for “teaming” up with SFR and next match up only focus them and “team” up with other server to show them “revenge” and how Piken “felt”. As I see here nobody is complaining about Viz that was the server that chose to focus Seafarer like Seafarer focuses Piken now. Instead it’s the second server that took advantage of the situation that is getting the “revenge” cause Seafarer know they can’t beat Vizunah and get the revenge they truely want. They are just really hurt and angry cause Vizunah made them come last and they can’t take revenge on Viz so they want to take revenge on Piken.
It would be really sad if Piken had such a community like that and would only focus Riverside next time they meet and show them how “Piken” felt which actually had fun fighting Riverside.
As one of the piken commanders, I can tell you my feelings towards riverside and, though I cannot speak for my colleagues, I imagine a fair few of they and the troops feel the same way.
I don’t feel angry towards Riverside, I feel disappointed and puzzled. I cannot imagine how they accepted what was done to them this match up. They didn’t “profit” from the situation, they were used. They took the scraps and crumbs that Seafarers left for them, once the heavy lifting had been done.
I once took the step of speaking out against the first and only “official alliance” that some piken commanders tried with another server long ago. I picked up a handful of bold troops and we went out and proved that we could win our own victories by crushing an “allied” tower into dust. It was a small thing, but it speaks volumes for how I think most players want to feel when they play in WvW. They want to feel they achieved something for themselves, not that they achieved what they were given, or allowed to win at.
A server like Gunnars Hold would have marched over to seafarers and piken equally, taking victories here and there. Whenever Piken troops speak of Gunnars, it is with respect and a feeling that if they had more numbers, they would be in a much better place, but that even without them, they fight well and with a true heart.
A server like Riverside isn’t seen as bad, they are seen as nothing. They were a colour on the map, one that occasionally moved in after a seafarers force and sometimes did some nameless field fighting here or there. I cannot imagine what it must be like for the Riverside commanders or the troops they led. Did not one speak out and demand a worthy battle or were they all content to follow along?
It is noteworthy that Seafarers didn’t even act as a kind master, because on occasion I did see them amuse themselves by taking the Riverside EB keep. It wasn’t done for any other reason than to rub Riversides face in the dirt. A reminder that they shouldn’t think for themselves and they just accepted it. Piken would have gotten angry and lashed out, but Riverside….they just accepted the beating and meekly tidied up the map afterwards, retaking their EB keep and shrugging that it was one of those things and surely wouldn’t happen again.
What I will take from this week is that Seafarers is my worthy foe. It has been said that we can judge ourselves on the quality of our enemies and in that I am pleased.
But Riverside….in a week I will have forgotten them and it saddens me that they have let their light, courage and pride fall so low. It is better to be admired, hated even, than to be unsung and unremembered.

The RNG in this game makes no sense and apart from precursor issues, this is one of the reasons tequatl sits cold and alone on most servers. There are only so many times someone will kill him only to see some yellows, or kill the karka queen only to see yet another one of those useless recipes she drops.
Buy a dye kit and maybe get one of the newly released dyes….that one definitely doesn’t make sense to me when real money is changing hands. The lottery concept is all pervasive and spreads a bitterness that damages the game and discourages people from playing….and thus paying to keep the game going.
Returning to the precursor issue, I have never had one drop for me. My only “lucky break” to date has been in getting a black lion ticket from a chest (I have never seen one of the scraps, only a ticket itself). The only large chunk of money I made was on investing in desert roses and doing well out of them in the auction house when they increased in price.
It’s all backwards and rewarding the wrong people, or forcing normal players into becoming investment bankers in order to make some sort of reasonable gold income without endless hours of champ farming. This needs to change.

Things do seem better and that’s a positive thing indeed.
Kodash made the mistake of siding with Jade sea after the reset and now jade sea is farming them for points and spending much time in EB battering on anything painted red.
Now kodash players have earned themselves a week of being beaten on by both the other servers in the matchup. Piken, because kodash gave them such a poor start at reset and jade, because they see kodash as an easy source of capturable territory.
“To the VICTOR, go the spoils”
He was the victor, which Is why a bag/chest dropped.
I want minis that walk when I walk, rather than doing that constant run and stop thing.
Some countries do consider it to be gambling. I have known a few games that have not had such boxes or offers available in some countries due to concern over this.
Anyway, as to black lion chest and ticket scraps. I have opened a lot of boxes in my time, have never received a single ticket scrap, but have received an actual ticket. As far as I can see, the scraps are so rare, they may as well be tickets themselves. You`ll likely get a ticket at random before you get enough scraps to make into one.
I think its incorrect to say that only a tiny minority experience these issues. From my experience, everyone, especially since the wvw update, has had days where connecting to guildwars seems impossible and yet no other game or mmo in their library experiences the same. We just don’t keep raising it here because its pointless.
It’s like the skill lag issue. Arenanet acknowledges that this is server side and is working to fix it. They state that players in high tier servers “got used to it”, and that phenomenon is the same for these disconnects and “false logins” where we seem to be in but really the game has crashed and just hasn’t told us yet.
My personal suspicion is that there are internet providers who have mistakenly labelled gw2 traffic as filesharing and thus give it low priority. This has happened before with other mmo’s but has always been picked up quickly. The problems seem to be common to those in the same geographical areas at the same time.
It is like a throwback to the time of the 56k modem and games like EQ and I can only hope that the coming changes to fix skill lag will help with all the other problems.
I did the frostgorge champion route for a while, but found it far too boring a playstyle to be worth it. I don’t have any problem with it though and feel it should have remained as a viable option.
Things in this game cost insane amounts. Also, items like silver doubloons are allowed to skyrocket in price when people have no means to aquire them but by paying. No change has been made there, despite all other doubloons having a means to upgrade and so on.
Every time this is done, such as with plinx and the orr events, another avenue of play is rendered barren of players and may as well not be there anymore. Meanwhile, at the other end, events like tequatl are barren because the rewards, even when “buffed”, do not add up to the time and effort that is needed.
In wvw I am already used to opening chests and getting junk….that was upped to two greens instead of just one and its still completely lacking compared to the time invested in achieving one.
This game is too much of a lottery and even the people paying real money to get things like black lion keys are forced to play that lottery. The game takes time, takes money and more often than not gives nothing in return and that is going to kill any love people have for it.
I do not understand the mindset behind this at all.
I support the sentiment expressed in this topic. The Halloween event has been quite soured by the current design approach and that shouldn’t be happening.
It was better last time and that’s just wrong.
I rerolled warrior when I first heard about the AOE nerf. I knew there would be nothing good in this patch for my staff ele, but I take no joy in being proven right.
Even in WvW I see less and less elementalists. Its uncommon now to see ele aoe attacks during tower and keep sieges. They are almost all gone.
Two greens – all the time.
Two greens.
For as ‘difficult’ as Teq is, the rewards hardly seem worth it. I’ve done it about 20-30 times. I’ve managed to get nothing of value except 2 sunless runes for my efforts (so yea, nothing of value). Obviously a 100% chance to drop an ascended item is a bit excessive, but I’m tired of running the encounter for a bunch of greens that I’ll just salvage when I can get about the same amount of loot elsewhere. This is how most players feel and why they’ve stopped showing up.
ANet needs to expand on their token system some. Introduce a ‘master token’. Players can turn in 1 laurel, 100 dungeon tokens, 250 badges of honor, 1 guild emblem to get a ‘master token’. These master tokens can then be used to buy things of higher value. Say 50 toeksn to get an ascended weapon. 1 token to get a dungeon skin as opposed to the item. 1/2/3 tokens to get a cultural skin.
this way, regardless of what a player does, they’re awarded for their efforts. the player knows going in what amount of work is needed to get what they’re after. They can do whatever they want to get it.
Once you have a proper reward system in place, then you roll out the unique skins and such that have a stupidly rare chance to drop.
If certain content (like Tequatl) doesn’t get enough attention under this system then it means it’s too difficult and needs to be toned down.
I agree entirely. I am one of the reset team that gathers on EU desolation server for the tequatl takedown and its becoming less and less viable even there. We have good, skilled people who put in a lot to lead the community and who haven’t gotten one decent reward out of 30 plus kills. Each time someone else gets their second mini tequatl, its a smack in the face for them and they are less likely to return. Already our turret team is struggling to get all turrets manned and that is where specialist, dedicated players are really needed for the event to work.
Tequatl is being killed by RNG, because the deserving players often feel more cheated with each unrewarding kill they get. They don’t turn up, the kill doesn’t happen, for anyone, lucky or not.
Is that a septacaliper in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?
The center spawn point has been disabled, so a good part of the fun has been lost in the labyrinth. Previously people could run around until the middle triggered and then everyone ran to that. Now there is no “top boss” and nothing to aim for.
My solution – once the three bosses are killed, the middle boss appears and has a chance at dropping skins like the greatsaw. Problem solved.
Don’t like it? Go and design better… simple.
Actually, there are a great many talented people out there who can do just that. Just look at the public submissions in the workshop for steams team fortress and other games.
There is no excuse for the look of ascended armour, especially as a great deal of GW1 armour was of a much higher standard.
I made a post a while back that I was one of the last staff ele’s. Well, even I have crumbled and rerolled warrior.
200 WvW levels, gone. Ascended staff, no longer usable. Commander tag, gone.
I gave it all up, rerolled, got my warrior to 80 and started over. Despite all that, I have more fun and am more useful than I ever was as an ele. I can do dungeons without instantly dieing, I press buttons and see damage of 5000 plus as standard and not the rare exception. My hit points doubled.
We are now at the point where even the die hards like myself, who played staff ele from day one, or ele of any spec, are giving up. The crisis point for me was when I heard of the aoe change where blocks and misses are counted towards the already pathetic 5 target limit.
I was one of the last and now we are turning out the lights and closing the door. The end has come.
I am really loving the new hair on my female asura. The ear shields and style of the hair are really nice.
Not to mention the pony tail, which is a good size.
I got this a while back and did some research. It seems to be the common opinion that this effect takes place briefly after a player transfers from one map to another by using a waypoint. Commonly, when waypointing to the defence of a keep, from, say, a borderland map into the EB map, this can occur. Once those dots move out of range, they are not replaced and soon, the effect fades.
I finished crafting my ascended staff the other day and then rolled a warrior alt. I wanted to see if what everyone said was true and I fancied using some of those skill and level scrolls I had in the bank.
I didn’t know much about warriors, but I got my first “omg moment” when I found a trait that gave me 25 percent movement boost when I had melee out….all the time. I used to feel I was fast by going into staff air and getting my speed boost frequently….till I realised warriors can get that….all the time and for free.
Then I took a look along the trait lines and was amazed at how many stackable ten percent or more damage increases there were. I looked at the abilities on the task bar and found I had genuine, hard choices to make as there was so much that was so good.
Then I went into WvW and found that even as an upleveled, poorly geared character, my warrior was doing damage that was close to my ele. With better gear I could see what would take place. I also had twice as many hit points.
I`m going to keep playing it all the way to 80 so I can make a post on my experiences….but for now I think what people say is true. It’s like playing a different game.
Moto is a cosplayer.
It is likely that the asura brain is highly resistant and perhaps even immune to such conditions. It may even be able to regenerate damage caused by trauma and other physical disruption.
What is crippling to us may be a temporary “flu” for them.
We all knew that Princess Miya, heroine of Super Adventure Box, was likely Moto, its creator, in a dress. At the time, I recall our discussion topic on the nature of his gender confused state and his feminine name.
In the coming update, if one combines a “mini Moto”, with “the parts of princess miya’s dress”, one gets a mini princess Miya. We are basically dressing him up as a girl.
How should we, the Asura, look at this?
Well, on the one hand, it seems that some undoubtedly brilliant asura are clearly displaying some strange and eccentric behaviour. On the other, we may well, as a race, have invented the social phenomenon of Cosplay, known well in other worlds.
Interestingly, we can already dress up as Brokk, that charr with the big eyes and as aetherblades. None, however, have been as bold as to challenge the norms of gender as Moto has.
Should we encourage this? Should we give praise when we see charr menfolk in girly pink skirts and ribbons or are we damaging relations with the other races?
Moto – pioneer or pariah – What say you my fellow Asura?
“The minstrel is the one you want, I am strategically unimportant”
Just look at that monsoon staff. It’s a stick, basically, with a blue top.
What concern me more are the rumours that lions arch will add some form of tariff to transactions in order to pay for tidying up all those election posters.
I remember some time back there was the anticipation that the putrid essence would be used in a craft recipe and it was not.
I bet some people have been holding onto those stacks for a very long time and I doubt that there will be any attempt to use it in a new recipe. On the contrary, the recipes seem to make use of the same lodestones and items that all the other recipes use (which sucks).
The op is trying to blame his atrophied skill on “power creep of equipment” I think. This is nonsense, considering a good half of us still wear the same thing we have done for the last 6 months with maybe a tiny adjustment from a handful of ascended items.
His problem is that he has left the game for a long time and in that time people have learned to play their classes well.
He also seems to be playing a condition elementalist. I play one myself and I do not make the mistake of thinking I am a warcraft mage.
My advice to the OP is to go roll a necromancer if they impress him that much. Also, go get practice in and learn to play the game as well as everyone else who didn’t leave for a half year period to do something else.
WvW players have been keeping the game alive and yet get poor rewards for this. Arenanet has only recently started to notice how popular WvW is and that it is popular despite all these negatives.
Unfortunately, the failing parts of the game are going into production overdrive and the part that works, WvW is being starved of attention.
I enjoy living events like everyone else, but they aren’t the main part of my game. I haven’t been in a dungeon for months and I don’t do that Spvp thing. There are many like me, who put in hours each day organising their server offense and defence. Whole guilds and communities are dedicated to this aspect of the game, a thankless aspect that sees them forced to avoid alts and into poverty.
It’s no surprise that people are feeling unhappy and are needing to vent. I am sure that if they remained silent, the dev team would ignore them, thinking all was well.
Much as a great deal of the constructive feedback has apparently been ignored…..getting angry is the only thing the community has left.
I’m a little baffled by the lack of a male model.
There isn’t a king either.
They are art deco, reminds me a lot of the bronze statues in rapture city, from bioshock.
What disturbs me about their inclusion in the game, however, is that they seem to come from nowhere. Where is the factory that makes them? Surely they are not hand made in little backstreet clockmakers shops?
What would have been awesome would be if these were a symbol of the human union with the charr. They would combine charr clockwork cleverness with the human sense of beauty, resulting in an elegant yet merciless army of incorruptible clockwork agents.
Without the factory, without the charr involvement, they just seem too deus ex machine and have been conjured from thin air, which is unsatisfying.
I spent about 7 tickets on this battle the other night before finally beating it (though I was downed at the time and finished her with my downed attack).
It’s a bad fight in many ways.
1. When first encountering the fight, it does not give sufficient time to learn what to do. You`ll waste several tickets just trying to puzzle out what is going on.
2. You`ll soon work out that the darkness pools are important and will likely try to use them as a field, by firing attacks through them to break the shield. More deaths result.
3. Even when using the fields properly, the protection buff they give is far too small and seems to detect poorly when you are in the field at all. You can do everything right and still get vaporised, because the defence is far more unreliable than the attack.
4. It is very hard to see when she is going to use the nuke. It needs a sound clue, not an “I wave my tiny arms that are obscured by particles” clue.
5. Standing in the darkness clouds, combined with being pounded by constant damage, means light classes struggle more at this than they should.
I brought this up in another thread..
This may be a measure to pull people away from WvW to participate in the new content. WvW was great for loot (best place IMO), but now the new Queen’s Jubilee content is far superior to WvW in regards to loot/gold.
Realistically, if your a player who played WvW mainly for loot, it doesn’t make sense anymore to farm there. You can easily fill your bags up in the new content in less than 30 min.
This also could have an indirect impact on the WvW populace if next’s weeks matches are mismatches. I highly doubt you’ll find servers that are getting blow out to remain in WvW when they can clean up in Queen’s Jubilee.
Anet better take note of the match-ups created next week
WvW has never been the best place for loot. It has always been the worst place, with the poorest drops and the poorest quality of drops. A single fractal run usually nets more than a whole night of WvW and even the new chests routinely drop greens when PvE chests have guaranteed rare items.
As far as I always knew, the MOB AI was built to attempt kills. It aimed for the lowest hit point, lowest toughness character, which was invariably the elementalist. I think we have all had those silly situations where we have had a champion mindlessly follow us round and round while an entire group of 20 players bashed it to death, unable to pull aggro from us as we kited it.
It’s daft really, as the characters who are naturally the toughest are the least likely to get attacked and thus have even better survivability than they should.
It’s also something to do with channeling. I`ve seen mobs immediately attack me as soon as I start to channel a spell , breaking off from other targets and even cancelling abilities in progress to stop my channel.
Those false loot bags are the culprit really. It is actually better to be in 5th or so place than close second, because the person winning all the time will cripple those who are closest to his or her skill level and often the worse players will overtake them.
Winning in sanctum sprint usually means completely messing about with all the people behind you, to the point where their ranking is completely random.
Well, from my command observations this week, I saw a lot of mindless “chasing” from abaddons and desolation, which suggests they have a lot of pugs without any commander supervision.
The most hilarious incident I witnessed was last night, where my forces and desolation had been going back and forth at stonemist for quite a while. Abaddons turns up, sees us, charges us and completely fails to appreciate the massive desolation force we are fighting. This ended with them running around in a panic and all falling off the cliff that overlooks the road from stonemist to green keep.
After that, desolation and my force returned to what we were doing and scratched our heads at the strange “abaddons lemming incident”.
My advice to desolation is that they need some decent pug commanders. On occasion, one of their actual commanders came back to EB from the borderlands and the difference was tremendous. Should Desolation get some commanders for the areas where they are simply holding territory (eb), then they would capably dominate all the maps. As it is, it was very clear which maps they were focusing on and all their other maps went to pieces.
Piken, of course, has similar problems due to numbers. We can only focus on certain maps at a time, but desolation shouldn’t have that issue. The common perception of desolation forces being mindless blobs comes from this. It isn’t the numbers it is, as I see it, some sort of failing in the commander ranks. Too many Indians and not enough chiefs, as it were.
The mist walkers work the opposite way to what was likely intended. They punish the players who stay in the main area and try to survive, but they don’t punish the players who grab lots of rations and who run off to the far west of the map to camp.
It’s not a game about surviving against the other living players, its about who can get away from the dead ones and that isn’t right.
I have done these pre patch and post patch, both solo and in groups, yeah thay are freaking diffucult but something in this game has to be way to many things are faceroll so now that we finally get something where you need some skills to actually manage an achivement that you don’t need anyway, then we get people that complain about it?
And before you say something about professions that are easier to do it on, i did it with Ranger, Thief Mesmer and necromancer, most of it on necromancer, after the Death Shroud “fix” so it’s doable, also one tier 4 we did with 4 medium and 1 light (necro in light was me) we had 1 thief 2 engy and 1 ranger, so you don’t even need heavies for it.
Just up your skills a little and you should do quite well in the Trials.
Necro is by no means a light class, despite the fact it wears that armour. It has top grade hit points.
Put an elementalist in there and you will see “light”.
Farming bots had a period of using the underground swimming exploit to attack mobs without getting damage in return. I ran into them near the aldons tower in WvW eternal battlegrounds, moving as a large group under the earth and briefly popping up to get loot.
Back then, I made a point of blasting them with AOE, which seemed to be the only way to target them.
I am still waiting for a set of pants for the fancy shirts. They have pants in the pictures….and without them they just look awkward.
I have a magic find infusion in my amulet that I wear every day and I have one or two items that have magic find on them as a minor bonus here and there. My karka shell, for example, has a little on it and is an item I am pleased to have.
Does this mean that magic find, as it exists, will become some sort of “bonus stat” that does something else? I would be ok if my magic find percentage turned into, say, some sort of boost to all stats or even a vitality boost, but I don’t want to see it simply ripped from items. That would be a whole infusion and all the laurels spent on it just gone.
I remember getting some mini’s a while back for having bought gems early on.
Regrettably, they sucked and don’t even count for the mini collection achievement….so I would rather have had a kite I think.
They had this in Matrix Online.
It worked well until the latter days of the game where they merged servers and forced transfers. This pushed people into servers where their faction had lost an event that on their own server they had won. This really sucked because those previous victories earned gameplay advantages….which were then lost.
