Menders can heal the Knights. Awesome.

The problem with menders is that they were designed to sacrifice themselves to fully heal a clockwork. Unfortunately, they were never created in an environment where those clockworks were anything other than normal mobs.
This would be like the menders healing, say, tequatl or the jungle wurm. They were never intended to interact with raid type monsters.
I`ve never even seen a scrap, but I have looted a ticket from a chest. I think he has a fair point that the scraps are far too rare, especially if we need ten of them.
I have done some testing and I believe that the rainbow one makes different noises. I am used to the rat a tat my rifle makes and now I`m using a rainbow rifle, it makes a boom noise.
Well, the one I saw was the kiss one…..I haven’t seen the rainbow fired. That would really suck if it was normal, seeing as its a hologram.
At the very least, that should make the same sound as the super adventure box rifle or, preferably, pistol.
Sad news – I ran into someone using one in lions arch….no sound effects, its purely a skin.
How did you get Scarlet’s Kiss, I have trying to get but no success so far
Nobody has one, which is why I suspect that it is going to be a gemstore item, like the kasmeer staff.
False. Check the TP :P Rainbow (I believe) is still pretty cheap. Although I expect the cost on both will decline.
I stand corrected, though I do find it very strange that the holographic one is on sale as that was marked monster only in the game files when it was researched.
Anyway, I want these, so I am glad that some concrete information on them has come to light. What would be really useful to know is if these come with a firing animation or the burst effect on their killshot….a sound effect on them would be amazing.
Edit – possibly just that

How did you get Scarlet’s Kiss, I have trying to get but no success so far
Nobody has one, which is why I suspect that it is going to be a gemstore item, like the kasmeer staff.
I got the alternate, Scarlet’s Rainbow, which is the same thing only holographic.
Considering that the rainbow rifle is marked as a monster only item, I sense untruth.
I`d be quite happy to pay gems for it, in a similar manner to how the kasmeer staff was released.
However, only if it comes with the effects that it has in game. Scarlet and her holograms have a plasma effect on their killshot charge and other effects on the shot.
I agree with those who say that the new legendaries will cause complete mayhem. Even if people have been stockpiling these, I don’t think it will help. Just look at the situation with iron ore and the recent backpacks….then multiply that by a considerable scale and boom – meltdown.
Especially as anyone can go out and mine iron ore in large amounts – but tier 6 farming is unreliable and unproductive compared to the legendary shopping list of “250 of everything omglolzors”.
Not a big surprise. The problem is that arenanet has decided trash mobs should drop no loot and thus crafting materials such as vicious claws are wandering their way towards the one gold each mark (most have recently approached 50 silver each and show no signs of stopping).
With the constant supply of events like wurm, marionette and lions arch that just drop bags or a rare here and there, nobody but the champ train farmers is getting these in anything near level needed to match demand.
I didn’t think anyone still called it WvWvW….that went out with beta surely?
The title of this thread has been changed – it was about the strange sounds that our characters make to encourage the citizens to leave, ie all the “aah, huh” noises (which lack words so that they work for all language versions of the game.
As the title has been changed to “citizens screaming”, none of the earlier replies make any sense, so this really needs to be locked to avoid confusion or half of us sounding just plain weird or nasty.
There is an element of risk in it and I`ve died on occasion getting a necessary tag on a high tier keep door.
Apparently, my asura is blowing an imaginary horn too.
Why didn’t they use our /beckon? That would be exactly what our characters are doing, surely?
It’s an interesting issue. While I appreciate the addition of a disabled character, I do feel that its still somewhat lacking in that it plays to the stereotype of – “Disabled people must be super intelligent or something like professor X and Oracle”.
I`d be a lot more impressed if we saw a disabled norn or charr who wasn’t somehow gifted with an intellect and gadgets that basically made their disability into a benefit.
While I like Taimi, I feel her disability is tacked on. If Roxx lost an arm and was then told she was unfit for the warband – that would be a significant plotline involving disability.
Considering that Eternity is, effectively, 2 legendaries combined….is that even affordable to the market? I mean, one is hard enough to buy but an item like this is, perhaps, beyond the affordability of anyone who may actually want it.
Is it not better to sell the component swords separately?
I am going to go out on a limb here and suggest that maybe, just maybe….a tool that lets you tunnel under the ground is not intended to include “jumping”.
DPS is the ONLY thing that matters in this game period.
Until at which time they get away from 1 shot mechanics and or make support builds/healing viable noting will change.
Also, Add into the fact the reducing the overall player bases dps by nerfing zerker sets will simply making zerker required instead of desired.
If content takes longer to kill and the game continues to based only on DPS – what do they think will happen? Players will end up being less inclined to invite anyone BUT zerkers since content is already taking longer to kill then before.
In short they are making zerker required by this change.
Agreed – in addition, new content, especially “hard” content like the jungle worm, has deliberately been made into a dps check. You must deal out a tonne of damage in a limited time window or you fail.
With the removal of the trinity, there just isn’t much variety that can be put into mobs and players are so vulnerable that mobs have to go down fast or people die. The elementalist particularly suffers from the current set up of the game in pve. Their only way to prosper was to put down their staff and to pick up daggers, acting just like thieves.
So the iconic ranged caster is best suited in overwhelming melee…..that’s the kind of messed up logic that the current set up causes.
Enemies need to attack faster but with smaller damage spikes. Enemies should also dodge big, telegraphed attacks the same way players would.
Changing AI like that is a very bad idea. This actually happened back in beta, in regards to AOE attacks, to the point where nobody could actually land an aoe attack on a mob and putting aoe on ones self meant that a mob would never engage you in close combat.
I`m a warrior with a rifle…so any change like that would mean that rifle would become a pvp only weapon as my killshots would never land. Some ranged mobs already do break off frequently and that’s ok for them, but if all mobs did that, for, say, thousand blades, then we may as well all just use auto attacks all day and where is the fun in that?

(why would a Consortium golem have any ability to deal with toxins)
Well, the consortium was trying to deal with the strange toxic flowers that were enraging the animals of southsun cove. It makes sense that they would have a golem that could investigate that situation.
i love using shield from my guardian, warrior(sort of) and engineer. but the shield special timer is too long to wait! other off hand weapon are short and fair; compare to shield 24 and 32sec with honorable traits IX (30 and 40sec if no traits)!?
toons dead by the time it deploys the shield block!
please ANET be reasonable and reduce the timer to balance with other off hand weapons?
The shield timer is fine.
Many people think it is, indeed, too long. Shields are rather poor in guildwars 2, both in that other weapons offer more defence and in that their abilities have horrible cooldowns. One would also think that a shield would be about blocking, but often, that’s not the case with the abilities they are given.
Shields are just plain bad and guardians especially are better off just using a Hammer.
Those battle standard attacks are nuts. I have good toughness and was hit by 34,000 twice as two walloped them down and killed absolutely everyone in sight.
…and considering my toughness level, that would have hit most people for double that.
OP – Update:
I was very pleased to see that the reward markers have been changed, so that 1200 is the new top level (far better than 1500). For such a change to have come in indicates that the lack of achievement was so severe that the developers were getting a very clear picture of the problem. (It must be quite something when an event like this requires the Tequatl killing guild on the case to actually hit the max target….it was not meant to be as hard as, say, the jungle wurm).
I`m only part pleased, however, as the social mechanics still encourage zerging and the citizen rescue counter is still counter-intuitive to how everyone thinks the event is asking them to play. More changes are needed, emphasising individual rescue and moving into the less travelled parts of the map. There are great ideas suggested by posters in this topic and others…lets hope more changes come before the event fades away.

It’s a positive change and shows just how much we were all struggling to hit the target (ie, nobody was hitting it).
It isn’t enough, however, as the whole thing is still heavily biased towards zerging and individual rewards and encouragements for citizen rescue are needed.
I strongly suspect that the developers had to make a lot of concessions in order to get a Chinese version allowed. It wouldn’t surprise me if this was a part of it as China likes very much to keep its players in a box where they can’t cause shenanigans.
Heck, it wouldn’t surprise me if, once the Chinese version comes out, that becomes the only one they can even connect to. China is not a tolerant, free or friendly place in internet or gaming terms, it just happens to be a very rich and attractive one to invest in.
They had best be fake.
I mean, “rush”, seriously? I`d go for it if it became like ride the lightning and had some sort of aoe burst at the end, but as it is, I mainly use it for travel as it is an unreliable distance closer in the extreme. People pick greatsword up for its mobility and if that is taken away then there are much better choices in any situation where a cooldown matters (ie pvp and wvw).
In fact, until I actually took a close look at rush the other day I had forgotten it even had an attack built into it. It is so rare that the thing actually connects and I usually switch to a ranged weapon rather than trying to use it as a gap closer.
Although I would love a zodiac colored skin option, until then this will do nicely:
That’s skeletor, from he-man!
…Captain America…
I didn’t want to quote your whole post as its quite large, but I did want to reference it as I feel you make some very good points. I agree on the captain America one and I too am desperate to get up into that drill thing to challenge scarlet at the controls.
I think the main problem is one of time difference, between the game and our experience of events. This part of the story is, from what I understand, actually the initial, sudden attack and a few hours afterwards, where citizens are evacuated in haste with anything they can carry. It makes sense for even the great heroes to get directly involved at this point, because they are still scouting and getting in whatever means (likely those teleporter things dotted about) that will help them get inside.
Unfortunately, with “game time”, those hasty, desperate few hours become two whole weeks in which we all do a groundhog day over and over. For two weeks, Roxx, Marjory and so on will still be saying “wow, its an attack on the city, omg giant drill”, when the rest of us will be thinking “can we stop evacuating people and get on with it”.
The karka event happened in a much more realistic timeframe, with an initial attack and then us going out to kick some crab behind. The problem with that, though, was that a lot of people missed the event. We were either there on the day of the attack or we missed it forever and it was the same for the defeat of the karka queen. I distinctly remember staying up into the early hours to see the mad king burst out of the fountain as well and after that…..he didn’t burst out again.
I can understand why it is that we get these “2 hours becomes 2 week” time situations. It allows all players to take part in the event and it justifies what is a heck of a lot of development effort that would be wasted if it lasted a mere eyeblink. It does, however, stretch the story to breaking point unless one takes into account these limitations.
On the topic of the “final battle”, we do know that certain parts of scarlets armour are dropping as future items. We know we will be fighting her. I suspect, however, that we will not be fighting whatever comes out of the drill hole. Scarlet’s use to that is at an end and we will surely defeat her soon, only to ponder the future arc of dealing with whatever it is she manages to dig up. I`m unsure quite how epic a fight she will be though.
Half of me thinks that we will get to the controls of the drill only to find her a burned out, mindless shell, disgarded by whatever it is that is urging her on.
From what I have seen, there are recipes coming to provide the different coloured packs, apparently named after the asuran schools (synergetic, static and dynamic). I suspect that more of the blades will be needed should you wish to make use of the colour process.
They should give more rewards for saving citizens. Multiple loot bags for rezzers to equalize the gain with staying in zerg. Or better yet, something unique.
I agree entirely.
It never crossed my mind that there was anything to this event other than auto staff the red mobs blob, soooo yeah your point is pretty much correct.
That’s what is so frustrating….that we can go into the event and constantly “miss the point” and thus the decent reward opportunities. Especially as it offers items from old events, that are theoretically invaluable as their like should not have ever dropped again.
Yep. People are even staying put until another event starts if there is no event going on. They should use that time to save the citizens ._.
Exactly and I feel that with the event set up as it is, even dedicated commanders will be unable to achieve the “event win” target. The whole thing is set up to make it look like the lootbag zerg train is all that there is and my guildmaster said this wasn’t the fight for him, as he didn’t plan an aoe class.
Really, it should be, as I found going into the isolated areas and rescuing civilians to be exciting, dangerous and well fitted to single target classes. Regrettably, he has already given up on it. The event mindset is excluding people and limiting them to being in large groups and in predictable parts of the map.
The upper inns and that shady cave in the north west are chock full of civilians….but most of them are ignored.
The big reward of this event is given when 1500 civilians are rescued.
However, unlike a tequatl or marionette battle, or even a scarlet invasion event, most people are not aware of this fact or encouraged to work towards it.
Why is this? Because zerging is not the required strategy, as many are now working out. We need many individual players to go out and save civilians, while keeping corridors of safety open for them to make it to the exit npcs or areas. Unfortunately, this just will not happen.
To make it happen we need – some sort of individual reward and encouragement to get players away from the zergs and those tempting, but ultimately pointless blue loot bags. The event design needs a slight change so that players are given a strong incentive to go off and grab those civilians and to ensure that they make it back in one piece. If this does not happen, then we, as a community, will just miss the point of the event and I find that a rather alarming prospect. This should be about more than AOE and loot bags….but currently, the achievements and set up of the thing do not reflect this, so urgent change is required.

The idea of impaling someone with my mighty pork sword certainly has appeal.
Unfortunately, I can see few skalds taking my legend seriously when it comes time to sing of it at the moot.
No surprise that it was seafarers involved in this and I warned Anet that it was only a matter of time before this took place, if they chose to ignore it.
Seafarers were one of the servers that became well known for DDOS against teamspeak servers during EU season one. The sort of person who is capable of that is likely to want to get to the next level which is to cripple the enemy directly, rather than just their communications.
We’ve seen other games attacked directly and we have seen Guildwars itself attacked briefly during the recent months. Games companies need to prepare against this and take it a great deal more seriously than they do.
Similarly, communities such as the seafarers community, need to move from “omg its not us”, to making a bigger point of frowning on it and trying to change the minds of their DDOS causing members to stop them doing all this. Seafarers got its bad reputation for a reason and this is just going to get worse in “tournament 2” where the rewards on offer are increased.

Back when all this started I did put up a comment that this phenomenon has happened before when other service providers mislabelled gaming traffic as file sharing. It looks like my theories on this may well have been correct and it would be very helpful for arenanet to look into it and chat to the BT provider. In the previous case it was sorted out with a few calls and immediately improved play experience for everyone concerned.
1. Elementalist
2. Ranger
3. Engineer.
I can’t wait for the next arc: Big Trouble in Little Cantha!
“When some steel-eyed, fifty-foot-tall marionette stomps your dolyak, zaps the hilt off your favorite greatsword, up against the auction house wall, and it looks down at you, in the eye and Scarlet asks you if you paid your auction fees, you just stare up at that big sucker, stare right back, and you remember what ol’ Evon Nashblade always says at a time like that: “Have ya paid your auction fees, meat?” “Yessir, the check is in the mail”

People had a chance to vote for him to be that leader….but instead voted for some airheaded human girl with an ugly hologram.
I voted for Evon even though I played an asura, because he was the right charr for the job. Kiel belongs in divinity’s reach, not in a city founded by cut-throats and brigands. Lions arch has gone soft and deserves the kicking it is about to receive.
(A kicking dispensed by actual pirates, the aetherblades, which is doubly fitting).
Normal sized asura tend to have back items and face items floating away from the skin by a distance (my monocle levitates, as do masks). I imagine a tiny asura would see this in extremes.
The problem is that they are not equivalent. You would think that each side would get a transform, a sneaky thing and a damage/resist buff. They sort of do, but the costs are assigned at random which is where the problem is.
Not to mention that, as the ele tornado power shows, transforms are risky and come at an already steep cost of shutting down most of your class abilities. They don’t even boost your hitpoints, so an ele gets a lot less out of kodan form than a warrior does.
As to the other powers frostreach has, they plain suck. The claw wanders about and I`ve seen him completely ignore any enemy players while the keep was under heavy attack. He just drifted off towards the generator areas, where zergs don’t stick around. Those summoned bears at the bells are simply an annoyance and have no meaning to an actual battle. They are actually more effective when controlled by an enemy force as they are very helpful to cover the reinforcements who are moving to attack frostreach locations.
If the claw acted as the breakout commanders do by heading right for an enemy location, he would be truly useful. Who did they get to test these things, as whatever guilds they signed up were clearly not wvw players at all.
It seems very surprising that the colours were not assigned in this way.
As it stands you currently have 20 skills per weapon set. Each element being vastly different in terms of play style. You already have twice the amount that people have that can weapon swap.
The problem is that most of those skills are extremely poor or are basically reskins of the same attack. Staff, for example, is a very poor weapon in terms of using its attunements and some sets, like air, plain suck.
I rerolled warrior from my ele a long time back. Now, my weapon selection gives me a choice of an excellent ranged weapon or an excellent close weapon. Back as a staff ele, I would have 4 selections of “meh” that in no way competed to just having two good weapon sets.
The ele attunements should offer clear situational changes, such as one attunement being close ranged, one being distance, one being single target high damage and one being control…..instead its a mess and that’s just not good enough to make a class.
Add me to the list of people on BT with terrible evening guildwars connection issues.
I too would like a toggle for this. I avoid things like glowing backpacks because I find them a visual distraction and now I have a large, solid symbol in the middle of my screen that serves no purpose and that gets in my way.
For the time being I am not using my commander tag at all if I can help it and considering the amount I spent to get tags on my characters, this is a real disappointment. The only consolation I have is that wvw is pretty quiet at the moment, but if this was season 2 I`d be much more unhappy than I already am.
All we asked for was a few different coloured tags to help others and instead we were given a giant arrow saying “your character is here”….where it has always been, in the middle of the screen.
Nobody is calling for nerfs, they just want the kodan form to have no badge cost. Scorpion is better and is free.
Well, in theory, ascended armour and weapons do drop. However, in practice, they are so rare and you are so unlikely to get the stat combo you need, that they effectively don’t.
Add to this that the ascended armour looks terrible and we are mostly all still running around in exotic.
It would really help if crafters could actually sell it and I really do not understand arenanets stance on that, as legendaries can be sold freely.
You guys whine about everything tbh. You sound like this was game breaking, when is just an icon above your head, cant really cover anything and if it did u can just move your screen a bit
For a commander, its a significant problem. We need to see all around us at all times and anything like this is obstructive and a real hinderance to our basic function. Not to mention that its as large as my asuran character and you can hide a whole enemy behind it or more.
I`m really surprised it isn’t dealt with yet, its making me not want to command at all and its just huge.
I tried out the robo-devourer that’s in edge of the mist and it struck me that it may well make a great addition to the normal WvW maps. It relies on the owners hit points, so its not too tough, but it does heal like a player does…..and its basically like a mobile cannon.
It would be awesome to use these as an alternative to golems and as someone who loves golems, but hates the way they are used, these are great fun to pilot. Lets have them as part of the golem options, so we can make them for supply or something as a sort of “golem scout” unit.
