Arenanet made a mistake in doing that. Buffs and nerfs should not change the function and use of a weapon in such a manner. If you were a sword/sword rifle user, for example, that change alone meant you had to drop the weapon and that’s not what a buff should be doing.
Rifle was never an adequate power weapon and the adrenaline change limited it even more because it couldn’t be used with the killshot opener. The weapon was made doubly useless and Arenanet`s logic on the rifle changes eludes me to this day.
A lot of dedicated rifle users, such as myself, stopped using their rifles when the changes came in. The fact that it can no longer be used with a killshot opener makes the weapon useless for sniping. Additionally, the loss of the bleed shot was a real kick to people who actually made use of that.
It became a dedicated damage weapon that….doesn’t actually do very good damage except with the occasional killshot that lands. Compare to the ranger bow option, rifle is clearly a poor imitation.
Rifle is a dead weapon and its a shame, because I benched my GS/Rifle warrior since that time and haven’t played it since.
I`d go for it, as shields are currently a lacklustre weapon for all classes except engineer.
Cos, you know, shields are all about engineering, clearly and not knightly combat.
It would be a sad day if the new Mesmer turned out to be the best shield user in the game.
We need each legendary category to have an opposite. Currently silly or outlandish legendaries need a serious or sleek alternative. That way people have some choice depending on what sort of character they have.
We also need weapons that no longer presume their wielder to be a certain class. Dagger is not just for thieves for example and staff is no longer just to be for arcane casters.
Pistols are also no longer just for clowns (who invented quip anyhow?).
If I lived in lions arch, I think I`d be handing out torches and pitchforks, frankly.
Sylvari were already feared and reviled by the citizenry due to scarlet`s actions, not to mention those of the nightmare court and now everything the people were worried about has been proven true. Add to this the fact that some of the sylvari in the city may well flip out and start murdering people, while under the dragon`s influence, and you`ve got every reason to put every single one of them to the flame.
Even as a sylvari character, you shouldn’t trust yourself. What is to stop you from doing all these things. One moment you may be with your party, merrily fighting bandits and the next you wake up from a blackout, covered in the blood of your allies, having murdered them all when they were wounded or distracted. Mordremoth has put its chosen agents in the one place where they could do the most damage, ie in the ranks of those who could work against it.
It has some very interesting story potential, especially for sylvari characters themselves and it shouldn’t be seen in the light of real world racism or the holocaust. The sylvari are not some oppressed and misunderstood group – instead they are all potential mass murderers and sleeper agents who one cannot afford to trust. Even the pale tree seems to be struggling against the terrible compulsion to serve the dragon and she was previously considered above reproach, sufficient for world leaders to heed her call.
Its bad enough that the Nightmare Court may well be the only Sylvari we can actually trust.
There is still a lot of RP on Piken Square. Even with the Megaservers.
I hate to tell you this, but there is no “Piken Square” unless you are part of its WvW community. It may well be that your former membership of that server is sending you towards other roleplayers, but that’s a relic of the past and something that will constantly degrade as time passes, especially with the influx of new players due to the expansion.
It wouldn’t surprise me if, for quite a while in its development, everyone forgot that it needed underwater weapons. Considering that all the underwater content is slowly but surely being removed, it must have seemed like an unwanted surprise for one of the development team to be told “oh, by the way, it will need underwater skills”.
Due to this effect, I`m thinking it will have a lot of copy paste with some other classes underwater weapon choice and skill roster. Presumably the one that is the least messed up.
Thankfully, there will be lots more cool and awesome skins coming out in the expansion, so we wont have to buy any of these old ones.
Don’t be wrong, this drop at prices is temporally and precursors will get back around the pre HoT announce prices.
What we have now is people doing “panic sells” and people trying to force lower sells by droping their offers…won’t work in the near future.
Keep in mind how ridiculous this is: we don’t know when HoT will be delivered and we don’t know how much time requires the new system to obtain a precursor (maybe we are talking about several months). Also we don’t even know if the old precursos can be obtained with the new system and not just the new ones.
If a dude wants his Twilight now he won’t wait 6 months to see what happens.
My suggestion if you want to sell a precursor: don’t join in the “panic sell” train and wait till prices back like they were before yesterday.
My suggestion if you want to buy NOW a precursor: Just buy it right now because these prices will get higher in the closest future.
This isn’t panic selling, its a much needed correction and a genuine devaluation of the legendaries because they are about to be replaced by cooler, more awesome items. The price will drop and drop permanently and anyone not selling is going to end up with a significant loss.
There will likely be further hits in the coming period too, as we get teasers for the new legendaries and people prepare to get those instead. Get the item everyone has now….or wait a month or two and get something people stop and stare at in wonder….I don’t think it takes much to work out which people are going to do.
The hype train has no brakes!
Lets do this!
warriors are not designed to be longrange professions, hence why they have high health, high armor, and high regen
Dagger Ele would like to have words on this topic.
I haven’t been an active player for some time. My focus is WvW but that has remained unchanged for far too long and the recent “white swords removal” shows a frightening level of disconnect between players and developers.
I log on, finish the story update and then log off for the next month. Which is a shame and I hope this “expansion” appears to fix this.
I think the WvW Guild V Guild community could have had very similar events, prizes and such. There are other aspects to the game that could be given just as much competitive attention and it is no secret that those options were allowed to wither in favour of an E-sport option that never took flight.
Chasing after that, while ignoring other valid options, would be a shame and I think that is what the OP is trying to express. Lets hope that the “expansion” or whatever new content that is coming goes some way to correct this.
There is a lot of significant or treasured information in forums such as the BL Auction House forum or the racial forums.
It was heartbreaking enough when megaservers mangled the RP community, but now all the race stuff will vanish utterly. This is ripping the soul from the game and I am not understanding why moves like this continue to be made.
Is “past the point of no return” actually meaning – destroying all evidence of guildwars 2 up to this point and making a new start?
I haven’t logged into the game since finishing the last chunk of the living story and I know I am not alone in that. It got to the point where I and others I knew just logged in for an hour, finished the latest living story update and then logged out till the next one. There is nothing to do anymore and with the megaserver change, the rp community I was part of scattered and was gone.
WvW was keeping me around and I fought hard in the tournaments. Still, even that has no meaning now and after a few years, even doing something I loved has grown tiresome and repetitive.
I checked up on the forums today to find most of the forums had….gone. I really cant stand the idea of the new dailies – are so few of us logging in anymore that we are to be rewarded just for doing that now?
Everything I enjoyed in this game was destroyed or neglected and it breaks my heart. How could they have done this and how can they still be doing it?
I hold out hope that this game is renewed in an expansion and that something in WvW is done so that I might fight for my server once again….if my server even exists by the time that happens. As it is, its all but gone.
Please listen to the OP as its a cry for help from so many of us, put into clear, stark words. That things could have gotten this bad is so disheartening, I can only hope that the OP’s appeal is listened to. It is now very nearly too late.
I`ve talked about “loot starvation” in my posts from time to time. We are in a game that is so set against us getting any loot that when we do get some, people go crazy, gorging on it, knowing full well that it will be taken away in a short time.
The devs must see this by now. Things are really bad, to the point where no mobs in new zones drop anything and we are all but punished for trying to get something of value for the time we put into the game.
This game is built to take from us and give nothing in return.
Has anyone ever in their wvw life build one cannon over a ruin purposefully?
- I wonder what was the process that led to placing a cannon on top of it. Did some dev just get the idea of building a vista-like point and the cannon icon just happened to be visible on the toolbar. “Oh, I’m going to add a cannon! Yeah that looks cool.”
On rare occasions I have put a cannon up on a ruin to guard a trebuchet that we have placed there. Unfortunately, when the enemy responds in force, the cannon doesn’t really do much. Orchard and the temple have tricky to reach cannon spots, but its a very limited strategy that seldom bears rewards.
Marionette was excellent. It was fun, it actually felt like we were fighting to save the world, teamwork mattered…..and it was actual teamwork, where players could adjust to the changing situation by moving lanes etc and coordinating over chat.
Not to mention the giant freaking robot and everyone getting blasted at the end if it failed – in fact, there were so many awesome things about the marionette event that I don’t even think I can list them.
It was gw2 done right – nuff said.
Your mad king says – apply the patch!
I, for one, welcome our overdue overlords.
The problem is that these events are effectively taking the place of actual content. They are being treated as something that pushes other content back. Like the WvW tournament, it wasn’t really anything new and yet it filled up time.
There really isn’t much new stuff appearing at all and has not been for some time. It’s like saying you`ll build a new conservatory on your house and instead changing the doormat every three months and claiming that was what kept you from doing it.
I mean, its a new colour doormat, surely that’s enough?
If they don’t give WvW xp, then they shouldn’t be part of WvW, basically.
I can kill a sentry, or fix a wall. I can even treb a wall down and expect to get some minor reward as a sign that “I am taking part in WvW”, but if I take a ruin, even at great cost and with organising another player or more to assist, I get nothing and that feels bad.
Its an easy fix and one that should have been put in long ago – add the WvW xp.
So, the tournament is over and I wanted to offer some feedback on the structure of the event, so that the next one we get is improved. I want the Devs to know that they did a lot right with this tournament, but that it still has some way to go before it is clearly where we want it to be.
The Good -
The timing was just right. The four week structure worked really well and just as everyone was tiring from all the effort, it came to a natural end. Compared to the last tournament, this was spot on.
The new end of week reward structure was also good, again in regards to timing. Everyone could put in some effort and got almost immediate results. Likewise, servers no longer had to struggle for a far off ranking to get rewards – they could win a week, lose a week etc and measurably get something out of it.
The Less Good -
The mistforge weapons are going to need replacement soon. I think we all got some skins we wanted, but these are no longer going to be worthy prizes. Much like the gemstore, we need a new skin set for the next tournament or tickets wont have value.
The maps are really getting old. Two years we have fought on them and unless the main maps see a change – I don’t see wvw surviving. Edge of the mists was not a WvW update and notably, the tournaments have nothing to do with it anyhow. The maps served us well and were much fun, but time is up.
The Just Plain Bad -
The lack of a concrete end of tournament reward really makes our effort look wasted. We didn’t even get a temporary finisher this time round. Compare to pvp “tournaments” where precursors are tossed around like candy corn. Servers who consistently ranked highly should see some sort of reward beyond yet another week of 200 tickets.
Ruins still suck and at the very least should give WvW xp for their capture, or for the capture of bloodlust after the timer. We get WvW xp for pointlessly repairing a wall, but for fighting hard over a ruin and coordinating with others to get bloodlust, we get nothing. This must change.
Siege Disablers made attacking unreasonably frustrating, to the point that garrisons were no longer being considered as viable targets. These items need to be adjusted at the very least in their area of effect. One disabler should not be able to shut down AC’s on either side of a gate or a whole line of rams. Alternatively, adjust their timer.
We all experienced repeated matchups against the same servers, often for several weeks in a row. It wasn’t even “less likely”. Again, whatever system was put in place to avoid this simply did not work and change is needed.
Overall Judgement
I give this tournament “a near miss”. It was good in many ways, but WvW is wearing very thin at this point and change is sorely needed. I think we all enjoyed these four weeks, but with a few alterations, the tournament could really have shone. Lets hope the next one hits the mark.

It frustrates me that many players are falling into the same trap that Valve uses to keep team fortress 2 on eternal minimal effort life support.
Rereleasing the same sort of content with a colour change, or word change doesn’t equal “masses of content”. Nobody should be pleased to see the gemstore updated with a green mask, for instance, which is simply a recolor of the red one.
The same applies to the living story, holiday events and the wvw tournaments – all of which are the same thing with parts slightly re-arranged.
New weapons types, new game modes, new dungeon paths. New anything would be good, rather than old things repackaged.
Curiously, for people saying that guardians have high condition removal – I have never really run into one that does. They certainly keep their buffs up after I strip or corrupt them, but guardians tend to be an easy class for me to take down as a condition necromancer.
The one that puzzles me is thieves, who seem to shrug off conditions almost constantly. Sad really, as its very hard to kill them with direct attacks, so one would figure the balance would be a weakness to conditions.
Might be because, you know…. If you were using the rifle for bleeds you probably need to re-roll anyway as that is not its primary or intended function.
Actually, it was in the condition tree and apparently meant to work with sword builds. As it stands, it now has no link to the power tree at all and flat out doesn’t work.
As to its “intended” purpose being to deliver killshots or to deal high damage numbers….it never did either very well anyway, which was why nobody used it, especially after the move to ferocity. It was always a gimmick weapon that required very specific spec choices that often made you terrible at everything else.
The bleed removal was a very bad move, as it punished those people who actually made use of the weapon and offered them instead an item that had no synergy with their customary weapon sets or talent lines. It would be like “fixing” greatsword by giving it conditions – just not sensible or what anyone wants.
As an aside, they did choose to “fix” greatsword by giving it changes nobody wanted and a nerf to damage….so the whole attempt at altering warriors was just bad all round.
One of the notable things about the lag is that it is a shared experience. Players will often note that “after patch x it cleared up for a few months” or “after patch Y it came back again”.
Its definitely not an individual issue, but is very large scale, whether its related to the arenanet infrastructure or European providers.
I`m still puzzled at how easily some classes are able to cleanse conditions. I`m regularly slapping 4 plus conditions on people and seeing the entire lot wiped off every ten seconds or so.
I`m thinking we need one of those conditions that they had in warcraft, where, if it gets cleansed, it explodes and deals damage.
I`m surprised we haven’t seen at least one new weapon set added. Even giving existing weapons to another class, so no new models would be needed, hasn’t taken place.
Elementalists, for example, could do with greatsword as a single target damage weapon and other classes have a similar niche that could be filled to round them out.
If three years goes by without any sort of actual new gameplay options or choices….we wont have many people still playing.
Yup, seems like ineffable is not an option. I am going to try another suggestion, which was to make a few of those backpacks – they seem to give quite a few levels of skill-increase for a low cost. I am going to see how I do with it.
I managed to find the info about them – ineffable weapons they are called and ineffable inscriptions. There is some ecto cost involved in them, but it seems they are poorly known – we need to look into these more for crafting into the high tiers for less cost.
Someone mentioned a new sort of weapon that we could craft which allowed the stats to be selected – 3 ecto cost or somesuch – they had a weird name and I cant find anything about them – what were they as they seemed a viable alternative to help this.
With all the warrior changes you can hang up that rifle now. It’s been nerfed into oblivion. Even Kill Shot is a PITA with the crazy adrenaline drain that happens now while not in combat.
True, sadly. I finally gave up on my rifle warrior and have been on my necro ever since.
Removing the bleed and changing the adrenaline made rifle useless. It was made to open with a killshot on unwary targets and to keep the option open on a miss or block. Now, however, I think anyone who enjoyed rifle warrior is now rerolling ranger.
And rangers dont need to stand still for three seconds while praying for the opponent not to have aegis.
Changing the colour of particle effects is not in any way hard. Not to mention a price tag of 500 gems for the colour change of those masks, its not right at all.
The soldier one is sort of “American civil war” attire, I feel. Esp when seen in grey or blue.
This blasted camera thing is really beginning to Jarate me off. Even holding the mouse button down to look around, it tried to “yank” control out of my hand. Fair enough I can only be down for 4 minutes, but in that time I would like to see whats going on so that I can get a rez / contribute when I am rezzed and so on. They may as well just blank out our screen or something, its that frustrating.
I don’t believe that there is this mythical legion of untapped potential players out there who were previously deterred by the way the game was.
I also think the focus should be on retaining veteran players rather than replacing them with a constant supply of newcomers.
Though, thinking about it….who is going to raise more income in buying new dyes from the gemstore….is the game set up so that only new players are a form of reliable income?
GW2’s story is one of its strengths. Lets hope that it can be continued in a way that expands our gameplay and replayable content options.
The biggest issue is comparing the amount of new stuff that guildwars one regularly had.
We are all very tired of running citadel of flame path one over and over, or the same WvW map (edge of the mist isn’t wvw in its current karma train state).
Nobody likes skyhammer.
If anything the content is being reduced as even Halloween got smaller last year and elements like the orbs in WvW were replaced with something that doesn’t even give WvW xp …..and that took out the quaggans in their lake.
GW2 is just getting smaller as bits are lopped off and I do not understand why.
Vampire outfit too apparently.
A combat tonic – that cant be used anywhere that you might want to fight?
This should be turned into a costume brawl item rather than being left in its new, sad and unusable state.
The game seems to have ground to a halt – I`d be impressed if we got anything, ever at this rate.
The siege disabler has already caused major changes in the tournament that is going on at the moment. Garrisons on borderlands are no longer being attacked except in the middle of the night as they are now completely impossible to take.
The only thing these have done is make taking hard targets impossible without hours of boring treb exchanges.
I`m almost at 12K achievement points and in average player terms, that is regarded as quite high. However, I`m now looking at getting parts of the hellfire set that I do not want and will not use.
Basically, it will take me a heck of a lot of work to raise my achievement totals to the next radiant piece and that just isn’t worth the bother. So I and many like me will just plod on with our daily/monthly additions, knowing that we will never realistically complete our set, despite being on the top end of the average player achievement curve.
There is a big gulf between the people who have 10k or so and those who have 20k, with nothing in the middle. To make matters worse, many of those who have 20k plus have no intention of wearing the armour anyway.
That’s a fairly solid list of changes – I am glad to see this.
This is another clear indication that the Anet strategy to cope with waning playercount is to aim at collecting more new players.
Unfortunately, the reason we are losing people is that the veteran players have nothing to do (ie no new dungeons etc). This is made worse by the clear indication that they are not valued compared to newcomers, who are getting a lot of dev time.
Its not a good state of affairs.
Yup, this was taken out of the game for a reason – it shouldn’t have come back.
Why the kitten, would anyone want to collect spoons of all things?!?
Is this some kind on ‘insider’ Anet joke?
Well, that’s the thing, it would be funny, if the reward was a humorous item. I`ve heard it suggested that there should be a spoon great sword, for example. The problem with the collections is that the amount of effort and expense needed is not matched by the amount of thought and effort put into the rewards. I don’t think anyone would mind the cost if the end result was a noteworthy, unique item that could be showed off, to tell people that you were indeed the spoon master.
Quite why this system was brought in without any of that I do not know. It reminds me a lot of the first season wvw reward let down all over again.
Considering the rewards for this – I`d strongly advise that you don’t collect anything, especially spoons.
You`ll go out, get many, hard to find, rare items, including ascended…..and in return, you`ll get back nothing of any use whatsoever.
Collections are basically a jumping puzzle that forces you to spend 50 to several hundred gold before it lets you open the chest. I don’t find that appealing really.
