Pew Pew indeed!
Master of corruption should remove the self conditions, it shouldn’t apply more. Evn having it do nothing at all would make it a better choice than it is now. The only thing condi builds are good for in this patch is killing themselves better.
Mortar should not have been nerfed. It needs to be a viable alternative to grenades.
Bring back ricochet.
Longbow didn’t need buffs, rifle did.
Fix rifle or remove rifle.
I`m looking to run a curses/blood/other Hybrid build that has parasitic contagion and lots of toughness (WvW sustain). For that, signet of vampirism would become the better choice, I feel.
A lot depends on how much self healing I can crank out of it. If it is enough, then the vampirism passive would simply make it more awesome, but if the blood/ parasitic combo doesn’t get some chunky heal per tick, then it would fall flat.
Unfortunately, the trait that gives chill to plague is put up against plague sending…and to be honest, I`m likely to take plague sending and to not elite as a reaper. With the trait changes, a normal death shroud is looking the better option.
I want to know what the cooldown on plague sending is, though. If its no good without the signets trait, then I`ll probably not take it.
Difficult decisions.
Chronomancer – Dragonhunter – Reaper… and then it just stopped – why?
For me, the exciting thing about this expansion is that I will get new options, new weapons and new ways to experience the game. Characters I have invested time and energy into will be renewed and their story continued. Even doing the same old thing with them would be a new experience, because of the new ways that they will do it and the new roles they will have in parties. I imagine many others feel the same.
We need things to look forward to and we want to theorycraft, or pre-purchase interesting new weapon skins. We want to anticipate the cool new things we will be able to do…but most of us do not even know the names and weapon choices of our new elite classes, let alone the full details of traits and abilities.
In light of the lacklustre expansion “news”, I suggest that one way to restore our interest in the process is to resume the elite class reveals that stopped with the Reaper. This will give us something to look forward to, to talk about and will make other reveals, like guildhalls or lore, have meaning.
Footnote – my rifle warrior is still terrible after the balance changes and I want to know if the rifle thief is going to be worth looking forward to instead. I also play necro….and I just don’t want to go there right now thx.
Whats sad is that they could have actually made it worth using, but woul rather scrap it, apparently.
The mats price is going to skyrocket from its current position of “ridiculous” into the level of “mickey mouse magic money price”.
Its just going to be crazy.
Yes, now plague will do damage to you and will do more if you are specced to improve conditions. Also the only trait that worked well with it, giving it chill, is now paired against the trait that will prevent this.
And our only decent heal will now become fatal to use under pressure.
Who thought any of that was a good idea? and that’s not even mentioning half of it and things like the lich form duration nerf.
With plague, if you enter it and remain in it for the duration, when you come out there is a significant chance that you`ll kill yourself. Our ability to remove conditions is unreliable and if the opponents are no longer present, then you`ll just keel over into downed state.
This isn’t including the fact that plague form is usually going to take a real hammering anyway, it is used to endure non survivable combat situations as an emergency button or in WvW when encountering zergs. I trait mine for blind/chill….and that would mean losing the trait that pushes conditions off of it.
So, they put crack shot up against warriors sprint and they buffed the range of longbow.
Well, if rifle wasn’t already in the dust, they just dropped the worlds largest dolyak on it from the height of the lion’s arch diving board.
haven’t played a game that doesn’t get a bit stale after 6-8 months…..MMOs included. its normal….go play something else and check back in a few months when the expansion comes out. there is no sub
The pace of content release for GW2 is glacially slow, even, oddly enough, compared to GW1. Not to mention that content is routinely removed from repeatable festivals and content that could be used as a filler instead vanishes (SAB).
WvW has tournaments that are basically automated and we haven’t had one of those either. Lots of stuff on the gemstore though – heck of a lot of it.
I would really like the pvp track system to be put into WvW, or something similar.
Doing those gives valuable rewards, wearable and sometimes exclusive items and handy stuff, like transmutations.
Currently all we get is to salvage some items and hope for silk.
Warrior's New Weapon and Specialization

Torch would be nice, for “raider” – makes sense to burn stuff in the jungle and be a skirmish expert.
I imagine it like this…
The Scene – 3 adventurers gather outside a cave in the Maguuma jungle. It is the hideout for a group of grawl that have been dragging off survivors from the crashed pact airships that have become stuck in the jungle canopy. They sacrifice these to their primitive gods and the adventurers are readying their weapons and will soon attack the cave and free any prisoners they find there.
A pact scout that has led them to the cave organises their plan of attack.
“Chronomancer, I think your ability to mess with time shall confuse the grawl and help us free the prisoners quickly”.
“Reaper, you are clearly a terrifying, scythe wielding warrior. You should be our main fighter against the grawl.
“Dragon-Hunter [long pause] what is it you do again?”
I play hybrid, so I have nothing to sacrifice and will gladly bolt on this new trait line. I`m very interested to see how it plays with a mixed condition/ power build and will run scepter/dagger greatsword. I never used my staff much anyhow, so onto the junk pile it goes.
Mainly I do WvW and went with the traited plague – parasitic contagion builds that can stay in a battle for sustained periods. This reaper idea is a godsend for my playstyle and will turn me into an incarnate engine of death who can go condition heavy, slap conditions around with epidemic and then murderise people close in. It was always scepters lack of a finishing punch that held me back and I was forced to wear opponents down.
I like this, I like it a heck of a lot. As an WvW roamer I`ll be in a really strong place.
Awesome! – lets hope it plays as awesome as it appears to be.
Can you people make up your minds please?
For 2 years straight – no matter what anet did – it was always: “we want an expansion, the game needs an expansion. no monthly, bi-weekly updates, we need expansions”.Now that they are working on an expansion you want the bi-weeklies back?
I have never had a problem with the bi-weekly system, i log in every day anyhow but this post is hilarious (or sad) if you remember all the calls for an expansion.
This isn’t the opinion expressed here – everyone wants an expansion, but while that happens I think its fair to expect another wvw tournament event or the return of some old but entertaining content like the SAB. As it is we aren’t even getting rehashed content like those….the wvw tournaments really are just like flicking a switch, no actual work is done for them, its automated.
So we are all quite pleased for the expansion thing, but its strange that working on it means the game is put into effective shutdown except for the gemstore….potentially for an entire years worth of time.
They can just recycle events with minimal effort like Boss Blitz or new WvW seeson…
The wvw season is long overdue, which really bites.
The expansion is a good idea, but the problem is that it doesn’t explain the content drought.
Back many months ago, we thought the lack of stuff was due to many people working on the expansion in the background. We figured it was mostly ready.
Now we are here, we don’t even have a release date….its a lot less ready than we believed.
I`ll say this – having seen the current state of Warcraft, I`m glad I have a GW2 that hasn’t turned into a facebook game.
That being said, I haven’t actively played GW2 for a long time. I`m a WvW player primarily and I go all out for the tournaments….but it has been almost a year, I think, since the last one.
The pace of content creation in the game is often accurately described as “glacial” and it perplexes me as to why this should be the case.
Keep the hype alive – people! Its crunch time for the necro!
I would be more ok with it if they actually had tools to “hunt” with, ie perception and anti-stealth.
Hunting is about a lot more than having a ranged weapon or a trap – it involves locating and stalking the prey.
Of course, the fact that dragons in Tyria are actually the size of a small mountain kindof makes the whole exercise a bit pointless. We don’t need to find them, we just need to kill them and, ironically, that’s something that a single person cant do.
To all you folk saying “Greatswordmaster”, that’s far to easy to say. Its more likely going to be something much more awkward, like “Greatswordexpert”
Is that an asura?
I must admit, I am hopeful and that is a very cool picture.
Who knows, by that pic maybe we get stealth.
Linguistically its a clumsy mouthful – I`m surprised they chose this name.
Anything except dragonhunter.
Legendary weapons will no longer be legendary
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: chronometria.3708
Nope. I see Legendaries everywhere. What makes having a credit card prestigious?
Yup, this, basically.
It will be really interesting to see what the Mursaat culture is like, seeing as they are back in Maguuma and were themselves, super hi-tech bad guys that were heavily defeated by societies they regarded as inferior.
Actually, thinking about it, while the Asura have clear parallels to Germany during the ww2 period, it is humans who may well best reflect the culture of Germany post WW2.
The human city of divinity’s reach is all that is left of the human society after the centaur nearly annihilated them and the powerful god dogma they believed in has been all but shattered. Their remaining leader is largely discredited and criminal elements influence politics heavily as does the quest for meaning in a world that no longer regards them as the rightful ruling race.
I think it’s (obviously) far easier to make comparisons between the Charr and Roman society (and certain Greek societies, such as Sparta) than it is to do the same with Charr and post-WW2 Germany and the attitudes towards post-WW2 Germany. But, as was stated above, cultures in GW/GW2 are based off of many different real-life cultures and societies.
I agree with this – the Charr are influenced by the Roman thing, as shown by their language, titles and legion divisions. Their hierarchical structure is simplistic, which suggests a culture whose physical sciences and population level have advanced and overtaken their social ability to operate them (a bit like the period where Japanese Samurai became out of date).
As such, comparing Charr to a complex political dynamic like WW2 Germany, during or post war, isn’t going to get much depth. Maybe compare them to Rome during its ascent and decline and the similarities would be much more noteworthy.
If you want a race that compares better, you should look at the Asura and the rise of the Inquest, as well as their recovery from the loss of the underground homeland, which could well be a parallel for the WW1 loss that Germany endured. Their prioritisation of science over moral quandaries and their treatment of the Skritt and “lesser races” all have depth and similarities.
I am really happy with this announcement – this is what we asked for and I am eager to get started!
Some posters here are just super jealous, basically.
I am posting here to confirm that something is definitely amiss with “camera shake”. I`m a scepter dagger necro and the shake with such a rapid fire weapon is plain crazy in third person mode. Once turned off, all was well, but I was surprised that it was so disorientating. I didn’t even know scepter had that effect to begin with, as I only ever used to see shake when using my greatsword warrior.
It seems horribly likely that in another two years time we will all still be doing the same path of COF.
…..and it will be even more boring than it is now, if you can get your head round that.
It wont be that late – the game just couldn’t survive going that long without new content. I`m thinking in about 4 months from now.
The ability to radiate conditions that are on a character is going to make WvW plain nuts when there are revenants on both sides. Basically, every battle is going to see everyone at max conditions all the time.
Piken wakes up for the seasonal touraments, then we hibernate in the times between them.
The problem with the bag cost is that the price of gems seems to just keep going up. I haven’t bought a bag slot on the characters I now play and instead the ones I no longer use have all their slots unlocked. If the cost was more reasonable, I would go for it, but as it is, its just not worth the expenditure when you could instead put all that cash towards something like a legendary weapon.
I wonder how much the new legendaries will sell for on the auction house. The current ones are already very expensive, so the new ones would be for some mindbending figure, most likely.
There are reasons to believe they may be unsellable.
I wish the old ones were unsellable too (
I expected something more akin to warcraft`s “battlegrounds”, with larger teams. A medium point somewhere between PvP and WvW in scale that would likely please quite a few people.
Unfortunately we are getting something that is very complex and somewhat wasted on such a small number of participants. It could be a lot more than just a fancy map for pvp, which is what it seems to be coming across as. Really, it should be a game mode, 8v8 at least and set apart from the usual arena style pvp.
A lack of dungeons would be disastrous. I think that several years of running through citadel of flame has moved from becoming tiresome into the realms of being just plain sad.

…I still would rather see prison camps for corrupted sylvari only….
The problem being that any sylvari is now a major threat and the races of Tyria need to take preventative action to protect themselves. The threat of sylvari is not that they are dangerous “when corrupt”, its that they seem perfectly friendly, positive and harmless and then suddenly turn on their previous allies and friends.
And every single on of them is going to say “we are fine, its unfair to treat us like this, you`ve got it all wrong”, just before they poison your supplies or flip the switch on the self-destruct button of your airship.
The only ones I would trust are the corrupted ones, as at least we can clearly establish what side they are on and can plan accordingly.
I strongly suspect that if there were new pets, then the “druid” we saw would have had one with him. I also suspect that when the druid was made, they probably forgot rangers even had pets.
Don’t get your hopes up.
Staff, axe…there are a few weapons that have always had few decent skins.
I think axe is extra hampered because there is no “2 handed axe” and the small axe just doesn’t inspire artistic creativity. Axes, to me and, I imagine, to most players, suggest big, awesome, super powerful cleavers…..and that’s not what we have in the game.
A bit like maces and 2 handed hammers. The game artists clearly find the bigger version to be easier to work with. Even there though it was a common complaint that many 2 handed hammers just didn’t feel heavy enough. Eventually, decent hammers like Genesis and the purple version turned up to correct that.
I`d go as far as to say that the weapon artists and designers have improved and developed as the game has matured. This is one of the reasons that I think the new legendaries will be something rather special. It will be highly informative to compare them with the originals.
hmm.. but where would you put it?
Two shields on our backs?! I think not!
One on the front, one on the back and pretend to be a turtle!
