With the announced changes all guilds are crossrealm, events are on a fixed timer….basically, the only reason they are keeping the server names around is because of WvW and I don’t predict that will last long.
Given enough time, people will just want to be with their guilds and they will see their server tag as an obstacle. “Why cant I wvw with my guild”, they will ask and then we will see changes.
The megaserver makes an edge of the mist style three faction matchup a certainty. It is only a matter of time before the server concept is eradicated for good.
The servers are gone, basically. WvW cannot survive like that and soon nobody will have any server identity. Realistically, with this system, they shouldn’t let people pick servers at all and should just have us all “log on” and end up in some map or other.
Lets face it, our homes are gone. It is only a matter of time before wvw is changed to match the reality of cross realm guilds, events….and everything.
So, with the new change, guilds are now cross realm….except when they WvW.
This means that:
1. WvW guilds now have to actively check what server people “come from”.
2. Normal guilds will now often be on several sides on a WvW battle at once.
This is….I don’t even know what this is.
I am concerned that this is going to cause a lot of friction.
If I guest on deso and say “what server is this”, they will reply that its deso.
With the new system, any map will be defined by its majority. So if a lot of, say, deso players are on a map, they may well see it as “deso” and non deso as the guests.
Now, that isn’t actually the case after this change, but it will still feel like that (just using deso as an example here as they get a lot of guest visitors).
This is a recipe for hostility regardless of what server we all come from as that identity is very strongly rooted within us (from pve firsts and wvw). Players are going to want to hang onto that as they need that sort of identity.
Take away “deso main” or “piken main” maps and you are going to end up with big groups of players all trying to recreate that and making others feel unwelcome (or vice versa where the smaller group becomes hostile and feels unwelcome).
While I have previously commented on the rp side of this….even without that issue, I have real reservations about what this will do to our identity and even loyalty towards gw2 itself.
Players have a pretty clear concept of their server homes. As someone from piken square I know what my server is like, I know what deso is like and each server has a personality.
With this change I wont even be able to say a map I am standing in is “my home”, as there will be strangers there. Not guests….guesting is a separate and temporary thing, they will be playing normally and the map is just as much theirs as mine.
This change is hitting people hard in the one area they still have some loyalty and I think the consequences will be painful.
Gonna hope guesting stays in, or Tequatl organization is gonna be a nightmare.
That’s the problem, with this change there wont be a server map to guest to. It would be a much more bearable change if we could see the map name and number so we could make a conscious choice to navigate to a particular one (which I think is how gw1 worked).
All together with a different chatcolor than plain white it would be perfect, yes. , But obviousely never going to happen as anet ignores RPers strictly…
Just like any game developer ignores the “minority” in the game. Honestly, a lot of the changes made to games, not just gw2 specifically, are NEVER intended with roleplayers in mind. If you cant adapt, you get left behind. That’s all there is to it. There’s always going to be groups of players that are going to remain an afterthought.
There was a game called star wars galaxies that thought much the same. Some people played a class called the creature handler and had much fun collecting different pets from around the game. They showed them off, made videos of them and so on.
One day their entire class was removed from the game, with no compensation.
Some time later, enough players were “left behind” in the same way that there were no players left and the game collapsed. A company cannot afford to make such changes and expect that the community will simply accept them.
This is a significant change and is coming at a time when roleplayers are being offered other homes in games with housing and dedicated servers. Significantly, roleplayers are usually the last to leave a game as they are the most loyal….so losing them now is a very bad move.
Dear anet, What you are seeing happening to this topic. Is why roleplayers are some what concerned about Mega servers.
Quoted for truth.
I’m not and RPer but I hope ANet notices this thread and maybe think of a way to fix it. I personally don’t see how it can be fixed.
The thing is this change helps a lot the general community and I just can’t say no to it.
But anyway, what would change for you guys if more people are in town?
I mean wouldn’t that actually be better for RPing? As in you actually have a populated town with real people that most likely will mind their own business? I mean if you get harassed you can just report em. But since I’m not an RPer I don’t really understand what would be the problem
Overall its a good idea, the one change that is needed is that it should not affect cities. There is no combat and no group activity in a city, they are purely social areas. This system will try to keep cities busy, which means that any off peak time will see the populations all sent every which way. It will treat the social side like a tequatl raid, thinking that any player is a good player and not understanding that roleplayers need to keep together even when the population in their city is not so busy at that hour.
If I walk into divinity’s reach, our hub, at the wrong time, I will be sent to some random place, with random people and there is no “real city” to request a taxi to. Some of our community will be in one place, others in another. It will be a total mess and I doubt even that the shards will have handy numbers or a main shard, as happens now, so we can all taxi to the right place.
It’s going to be complete random mayhem, but that can all be changed by not having this affect city zones.
Or even better. Make a RP guild.
We have guilds, many guilds, who are all part of the same community. This change is not about seeing a few friends, it is about seeing a whole community of people who are not joined together by party, friend or single guild links.
We have claimed two servers as our home and now that is about to be destroyed.
Megaservers are about to destroy the unofficial rp server communities, at least as far as I understand them.
Why is this? Because every map is now going to be an overflow, with players scattered to the four winds with a vague weight given by their actual home.
Previously, if you went to divinity’s reach in piken square, you were going to the rp hub of the EU servers. Now every divinity’s reach is the same and while many of us will end up in the right place, a good proportion will probably find that they have no idea where they are and who the characters passing by are.
I can think of no greater destructive action towards the rp community than this, especially in that we have had to make our own way without official servers. While this is great for grouping and I welcome it, it should not apply to cities, as they are primarily social hubs and see no actual group content.
I urge the rp community to make their voice heard on this non city change, before this goes live. Otherwise it could cause irreparable damage to what little rp community there is left in GW2.
No Megaserver in city zones please.
They may change the tier upgrade recipes for materials. As it is, the tier 6 price is skyrocketing and these are not performing their function of spreading the cost to the lower materials and balancing the market.
This would be a welcome improvement for all crafters, especially as tier 6 items are about to hit 50 silver each and show no signs of stopping. People just cannot farm them fast or reliably enough to meet the demand.
We also need to see a restoration of the “4 superior sigils = 1 random superior sigil” to normalise the crazy price of sigils and runes that is surely going to get worse with the item update for those.
In other mmo’s, even old school stuff like everquest, I could go out, put in some effort and get something worthwhile. It may have taken a long time, but I never felt I had wasted my effort.
Guildwars is the only game I have played where I can invest a vast amount of time and get next to nothing in return, mainly due to RNG and a lack of medium value loot.
This is why everyone just stands around in LA/vigil keep and chats all day. The incentive to go out and do anything is lacking when only the lucky will prosper. I would much rather there were a whole lot less RNG and a more reliable return for me spending a day killing mobs and doing gamestuffs.
Awesome in every way – I am very pleased with these changes.
The only thing this incident shows is how dirt poor we all are and how we are better off getting an income from “playing the auction house” than we are from actually playing the game and getting loot.
Time invested in play gives far too poor a return compared to other mmo’s.
There was a time when I would, ever so often, just buy 5 dyes and open them to cheer myself up.
Sadly their price became so ludicrous that I couldn’t do that anymore.
I still got joy from the rare occasions on which one dropped, but that was so infrequent that their removal from the loot table is probably a blessing.
They were a good thing that was ruined by RNG and I do mean that because I remember the day that they dropped more commonly because of an error and then the drop rate was nerfed to “never-ever” in response.
I’m one of the few warriors that prefers a rifle and, as an asura player, I was quite keen to pick up one of these.
Curiously, I find the rainbow to be much more appealing, because of the holographic effect and thus the lower price on that was a boon to me.
I picked mine up when they were going for 70 gold and after that they dropped to 50. With the current price I feel ok that I went for the 70, but I can tell you now I wouldn’t be paying much more than that if I still needed it today.
I’d quite like to pick up a green one to have an alternative set for a green spinal pack, but their price is now just crazy. Just because something is rare doesn’t mean there is demand for it at a crazy high price. When the price drops to something reasonable, I think they will likely sell, but anyone who really wanted either rifle already has one.
Well, as to that commander, one can only help that he felt a real fool when his likely reward turned out to be some temporary dolyak finishers and a couple of greens.
The only thing that may have discouraged all this spying, ddos and other shenanigans is the fact that it turned out not to have been worth it for season one.
The Infernal Asura – dragging the souls of bookah to fiery torment!

What concerned me was the coming ele traits.
“Here, have cool combat stuff for ele-dagger! Oh, you use a staff….well…have heals that only work on others as that’s what mindless group healbots need”.
What puzzles me is that the sort of people who will win such a tournament most likely already have one or more than one legendary.
They probably regard such a prize as worthless.
Zodiac armour on female asura just looks terrible. They should at least make the chest area solid with some sort of design if they are going to insist on asura having blank chests.
New Sylvari dialogue in the Grove?
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Some time back I remember pondering that sylvari, as what she says had very close links with scarlet`s diary account.
She is suffering terrible, scary nightmares.
She doesn’t know the source of these, it isn’t clearly from the court.
She ponders whether or not they come from an evil within her.
She claims to be losing sight of who she actually is.
Both that sylvari and scarlet have almost identical experiences and I took it as supporting those who suspect that all sylvari have some internal link to mordremoth that has been locked away. In scarlet’s case omadd’s machine broke that barrier, but in the case of these sylvari, we may well see mordremoth’s awakening as enough to flip a few into “evil mode”.
Season 2 could well see a sylvari civil war or something similar. Ironically, the nightmare court may well end up on the good side. The big question is whether or not the pale tree is resistant to the call, should this storyline prove to be the actual one.
They should make turrets mobile, so they hover on little steam or anti grav asura platforms. The engineer from wildstar has these sorts of pets and is much more viable.
This nerf will just make dungeon groups more hostile towards non beserker builds. As they will be struggling to complete the dungeon efficiently, they will no longer be able to afford a player who is not giving the required damage.
The alternative is that dungeon speed groups simply collapse and then dungeons will be so tedious as to be not worth entering.
Considering that so many bosses and events are now a dps check, my concern is that this change is simply going to make us fail upcoming and current content.
Then they will have to nerf that content so we can complete it….and we end up back at the old situation.
“You can only attack tequatl with a spoon” – “we have nerfed tequatl so he may be killed with just a spoon” – “we are confused why spoon spec is in such demand”
(edited by chronometria.3708)
The test was for the aether blast at the end, I suspect. That way she could simply have killed everyone in lions arch with one swift blast and mined without disturbance.
The miasma gas was a sort of cheap and nasty replacement for that that required a lot more manpower to set up and which was much less effective.
Her entire focus was the drilling, so any weapon was intended to prevent threats and disturbances to that.
Maybe add some of the yellow colour that the SAB shield text uses. Definitely replace that draconic helm with anything else, maybe a scarlet helm if you got one in the recent story.
There had better be a reckoning after this, with each of the captains council answering for how this could have been allowed to happen. There were warnings and not a single defensive measure was taken.
I`m with Evon on this – the blood of everyone really is on their hands.
There must be political consequences to what went on.
Considering the insane price of unidentified dies….I`d welcome a change of any sort, just to reset the situation in some way.
It is bad enough running around on a Sylvari with all the NPC hate now- can you imagine if I was wearing Scarlet’s hair?
it would be instant pitchfork time
Just ignore that.
“one person of that race goes full tyrant on the world so that means their entire race sucks” Is stupid reasoning.
Don’t forget Canach and the whole southsun killer crabs thing. That’s twice that sylvari have caused a chunk of lions arch to be destroyed while using poisonous gas as weapon of choice. I don’t trust those twigs as far as I can throw em.
Humans have done things far more terrible over the course of history (in real life). Do you also distrust all humans around you?
That doesn’t really work when there are no other sentient races on the planet. If a country unleashed two separate incidents of mass destruction on my home town though, I think I`d have a case for saying they had it in for me.
Well then I guess another sylvari has do worst then Scarlet
Any sylvari up for helping me genocide the krytan meat sacks and turning divinity’s reach into a smoldering pile of ash?
I totally called it.
Canach – poisonous gas enrages wildlife – giant crab smashes up lions arch.
Scarlet – poisonous gas kills everyone – giant drill smashes up lions arch.
Personally, I can sympathise with the negative view of sylvari that lions arch citizens are expressing. It’s only going to get worse with the next story part, mark my words.
Them twigs be bad news.

Its strange that it is not there. Especially as half of us are dressed as aetherblades, with backpacks that were part of scarlets killing machines and we use weapons and equipment based on foes we have encountered from as far back as the inquest.
I am reading the patch….did they seriously just nerf the….erm….chestiness?
Take my gems!
I am loving the asura hair – Taimi and Jack Sparrow – Booyah!
Quite like the norn ones, is that Beowulf….the female ones are quite elegant.
Yup its in and so is jack sparrow hair – ooooohyeah!
I use a rainbow and it has a deeper, more “boom” like sound.
Its a strange sound in that, when I am solo it is quite distinctive, but in a larger fight it tends to blend in with the combat. I don’t mind doing some guesting on EU to show it to people, if anyone wants to see it in action.
Someone tell me why the swim speed booster even exists. I mean, just how much gold is it now to cross a lake slightly faster?
"Blue" spinal blade not terribly blue
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: chronometria.3708
I ran into someone who had figured out what dye colour matched it and it is apparently a colour called “teal”, which is a sort of greeny/blue.
I`m blue themed with SAB gear and its definitely nowhere near that blue.
elementalist is underpowered? aren’t they the profession of choice for things like killing lupi in under 30 seconds?
I hear rangers do well at that…but that doesn’t say much for the class in its current state….same for ele.
“a chance at” – I do not think it means what they think it means.
Winning in gold is simply a matter of coverage. Piken just doesn’t have the night coverage or raw population that is needed for gold league.
I have always believed that piken should be high in silver rather than trying to punch above its weight in the gold league. Season one was just exhausting and for no real reward, so I would much rather have a reasonable chance of victory without having to stay up to silly hours of the night and so on, like we all had to.
Commander Kikki – Piken Square.
I put it down to a lack of blubber.
Cold dwelling sea animals often build up a protective layer of blubber to keep warmth in during the coldest parts of their season. Quaggans are quite chubby and live in cold places, so I presume they too have a blubber layer to keep their warmth in.
Bloomanoo and Peneloope have been forced to live on a meagre diet due to their home in kessex and now lions arch being disrupted. They have also had to do a lot of walking on land, which their bodies do not support well. Thus, they are likely cold as they have lost their natural bodily insulation layer
Looking awesome Lilith! – Notice how we all have the same “ear flap ponytail” hair choice – super popular.
To add a little to the topic, I wanted to comment on how, as an asura player, I have often found special joy in meeting other asura out in the world. I seldom see this for players of norns, humans and so on. Maybe our choice of race is more significant to us.
In many games, those who play the small races have a really strong sense of racial community and identity.
A big shout out to the mighty Asuran sisters who are out there, being awesome!
I took this screenshot after meeting a few other similarly attired Asura in a lions arch overflow. We were drawn to one another and, if you look at the armour crystals, we have the red, green and blue arrangement of the event.
This chance meeting and colour selection surely indicates the alchemy at work!
Oh, as to the chap at the end with the giant horns….he kept “horning” in on our action and sneaked into the screenshot! (Some asura just love that retro barbarian look!)
If anything, I think she turbocharged it. The dragons are slowly woken when the magic level reaches a certain amount and she must have spiked that to rouse the sleeping Mordremoth.
Thus, magic users should see a spike in power over the period as the dragon did. With regards to magitech, more power is usually a good thing so long as you have a decently built system to cope with it.
