Because for WvW a perk line at month, work for Anet 10 minutes for copy-paste it, is enough.

Seriously…when we’ll get what WvW community is asking since release?

Which part of the WvW community?
Different people asks for different thing after all, and in some cases these things are opposite of each other, so which side should they listen to?

Hopefully whatever side gets us better rewards than these junk chests with silver, worthless badges and green items.

I run a condition staff build with max fire, earth and a dash of air. Balanced by having a lot of toughness, it’s quite durable but requires being in a group.

In terms of direct damage is quite mediocre, but it is mainly designed for area denial and maintaining conditions on foes who are otherwise engaged.

I may not be much of a threat alone, but when with at least one other person, I count for two. It’s combat support, rather than healing support.

As a staff ele, I looked into celestial and as I can craft a full set, I totalled up the numbers and compared to my current gear.

I found celestial to be overall worse than the items I actually had and that the gain in the new stats really didn’t make up for that which was lost overall.

Celestial really needs to offer a lot more in terms of stat points. The numbers are just too low to make it all round effective.

I`m a staff ele commander. It’s quite handy in that I can often take out the arrow carts, cannons or other pesky things that are threatening my group without having to rely on others to do it for me.

It’s also handy in terms of ground control. Being able to throw down those red circles is a great way to manipulate enemy troops and to prevent them going to certain places.

Having toughness as a main stat helps a lot. I run a condition build.

I thought it worth commenting from an actual purchasers point of view, as these interesting items, the monocles that is, are not all created equal.

I bought one to use for myself for my light armour character. A lot of light armour is quite ornate, to the point of being fancy clothing and not armour. There is a real lack of decent headware for light armour users and most just turn it off, as we don’t like running around wearing what seem to be carnival masks.

I noted that the medium armour monocle was half the price of the others. There are a few reasons for this. Firstly, medium armour tends to be leather and doesn’t look right with a monocle. In addition and more importantly, medium armour users have always had access to goggles and even an actual one eye goggle item, which is basically a monocle. I noted later that the price on the medium ones had doubled to match the others….and that is a mistake as those are much less likely to sell.

So if you are seeking an investment – buy the light ones and avoid the medium ones.

About Torment and thieves

As a condition staff ele, I would love to have this in the fire tree. The tree that otherwise nobody takes. We make big aoe and fire fields, but they do no good if people, you know, move slightly, so having this would be great news.

Instead they give it to thieves and by the sounds of it thieves wont even take it as they feel its junk. Not surprising as everything they already have is pretty amazing.

If my staff did 3500 on its auto attack, I wouldn’t need any of my abilities either, but I`m not a thief, so I have to make do with slow, easily avoided attacks and applying conditions that tend to get cured in a tick or two.

Torment – A condition that inflicts periodic damage, which is larger if you are moving.

….and this is being given to thieves?

This being after the official advice on how to deal with a thief was “move on”, ie run the heck away. I mean, as a staff ele, my only option against a reasonable thief is to run and hope I can get into a tower before I`m cut to pieces.

Now I am dead either way, if I stand still or if I run? Whose idea was this?

Staff ele would benefit from this….as if people take five steps to the right or left, they are completely able to avoid my aoe damage. Thieves are not the ones needing tools to keep people still as we cant outrun them anyway.

Playing norns is an unpleasant exercise in moving in slow motion. It looks and feels wrong because our mind knows that, for their height, they should be covering more ground.

Issue with commanders...

in WvW

Posted by: chronometria.3708

chronometria.3708

We commanders do use strategy, but it tends to need multiple active commanders to do so. A single commander trying to split his force will simply find half of them wander off or refuse the command. A badge is needed at each location you want troops to be present at.

So, the other day, for example, I was laying siege to green keep. We had two commanders, each attacking a different area of the keep, to split the defenders. At one point we noticed enemy groups bringing in supply from their borderland, so we dedicated one commander to being a “blockade team” to cut off spawn and another fought in the keep as the siege force.

When two commanders work together, the results are usually impressive, but there are so many obstacles to this that it seldom happens. Not to mention the troops who openly question the wisdom of proposed tactics and call for the easy option.

Burning Oil Mastery

Burning oil mastery is just tragic unless it offers complete immunity pretty much all the time the oil is in use as well as stability. As such, as long as the oil is up, so should you be, it should be like wearing a golem.

Oil is an immediate target for the entire zerg with everything they have got. They are forced to kill it, because it eats rams and golems. Thus, most of the time, even if you do get on it, it wont have any targets because nobody is stupid enough to put things under it till its dead.

What would be nice would be an ability that let you rebuild it quickly once it is dead. I can see that being a great way for a specialist to recover a gate during a lull.

Arrow Cart Bots?

chronometria.3708

The way ACs works is a bit confusing. ACs don’t fire their AoEs exactly in the whole target area. Rather, slightly smaller AoEs fires around the targeted area each second for about 3 seconds. From the perspective of the AC it looks like you fire one giant pulsing AoE, while from the receiving end it looks lie 3 smaller AoEs with one appearing every second.

Somewhat yes, but they all his the same area with a bit of a wobble. Tracking discs that catch a running player are different. Its true that a good AC user will make guesses as to where his target is going and sometimes, due to good luck, these will seem to track a target wherever he goes, but I am presuming the original poster can recognise this.

I have seen something similar take place and often when the user is likely using a field of view abuse or “hack”. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some sort of shenanigans going on.

Yes, because other classes can have two contrasting weapons and switch between them. They are never stuck in a single mode. Warriors can spec greatsword and rifle, giving them access to excellent range and excellent close range, both with good damage. Elementalists cannot weapons swap and thus their weapons must be able to offer two styles of fighting across their attunement range.

Probably seen the biggest low blow in WvW tonight. 15 GH defending hills lords room against 40ish RS. We started receiving arrow cart fire all over the inside of the room destroying our defensive siege very fast. Then all the fire was directed into the centre. The AC’s had no line of sight as the were build outside and around the corner.

Honestly ive had a lot of fun tonight but its moments like this that make your server look like kittens. We are so outmatched its unreal, you dont need to exploit as well.

Zoom hacking on arrow carts seems to be standard practice for Riverside. The sad thing is that often it isn’t even needed. I tried to defend an un-upgraded durios tonight, with seven men against 30 plus, 3 catapults and an arrow cart. This alone was bad odds, but the arrow cart could hit every single part of durios and it swept clear all the siege in the courtyard with exact targeted circles and then made it so we couldn’t stand anywhere in the tower but the lords room. It simply swept away anything that was present.

A total joke considering we had no chance against either the numbers or the 3 superior catapults. Cheating was apparently needed as well?

That’s just disgusting.

Do none of the non cheaters on riverside realise something is odd when you get into a tower and find it totally empty of siege when you knew that there was some catapult or other inside?

When you see an arrow cart go up on attack, take a good look at the one firing it because this is happening enough to know that it is likely the same people who get picked to man the arrow carts or who put them down.

Its one thing for a grown man to fight a child, but its another when he feels the need to carry a gun just to make sure he will win.

Health and Armour - Why the inequality?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

chronometria.3708

Why is it that we are all equal, but that some are more equal than others?

Does this even make sense?

Also a literary reference to the book “Animal Farm”, which was itself a critique of communism, where everyone was supposed to be equal.

Originally, the rule was “all animals are equal”….and when one group took power it changed it to “all animals are equal but some are more equal than others”.

That’s the situation I see here, where the clear aim is that all players and all classes can contribute to all aspects of the game. There is no “holy trinity” where the roles of classes are strictly defined.

Unfortunately, classes start with an imbalanced playing field, where some are extremely vulnerable. This is seen as ok, but to give them proportionally better damage is somehow seen as bad. The classes are being equalised but this is impossible from the start due to this holdover from other mmo’s. It must be done away with before true balance can be considered.

It is like painting a bicycle and a car red and then claiming they are balanced because they are the same colour.

Health and Armour - Why the inequality?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: chronometria.3708

chronometria.3708

It seems that all the classes are designed to be equal, yet some classes have more health and damage mitigation than others.

One would think that the classes with the least health and armour would do the most damage to make up for that. In guild wars 2 this seems not to be the case.

On the bottom end of the scale we have classes like the staff elementalist, a paper tiger whose damage is both poor and capped. Arenanet agrees and mentions possible, vague fixes that thus far have never appeared. The situation becomes so bad that most elementalists end up using daggers and become assassins….not what anyone intended.

On the top end, we have classes like the beserker warrior, or warriors in general, whose damage output is recognised as the highest possible and yet, they have the highest passive health and defense. Clearly, having everything is better than having something or nothing, so everyone just recruits this option for quick kills and farming.

We all recognise this…yet still there is nothing done and likely nothing will be done for the foreseeable future. How can this obvious inequality be allowed to continue for any and all classes.

Why is it that we are all equal, but that some are more equal than others?

WVW Supply Penalty

in Suggestions

Posted by: chronometria.3708

chronometria.3708

I don’t like this idea, personally.

All too often there are tier 3 buildings, where the supply serves no purpose other than to be used on repairs and people insist it is just left there. I have seen towers captured on full supply because people are too afraid to touch it for legitimate uses.

Its true that tactically, there are occasions where its needed for upgrades, but i don’t feel it needs some sort of player v player law to enforce that.

The last thing we need is players being given power to enforce their will on others for what they see as bad play. As a commander, i don’t have to justify myself to others when i see fit to take supplies from a tower or keep and i don’t harass others for doing the same.

The other one is repairing walls under treb fire – sometimes its stupid, but other times it is crucial and necessary. The last thing we want is for people who make the right tactical decision on that to be harassed by others.

Invested in Super Skins...

chronometria.3708

If you need the gold, cash out

If you can afford to hold, keep it.

What happened was all the newbie speculators thought they could make a quick buck after the patch and sell the skins 2 fold. Smart speculators know that it takes awhile for the value to go up and often the time with the lowest price is after the patch.

The one thing that concerns me is that we are most likely going to have new skins come out over the next few months which may dilute the # of in-demand skins for weapons. For example, for greatswords in October we didn’t have much choices. But after that, we have the greatsaw, the fused GS and the SAB GS. Thanks to datamining, we know there will be an eyeball GS.

So now the market for high-quality skins is getting diluted and the future value of older skins may end up stalling. Not to mention everyone wants to get rich and everyone probably has at least 1 SAB skin in their bank hoping to cash out.

I personally invested about 1000g in SAB skins but that value has now dropped to 600g. On average, lost about 30g for GS

So, the ones who bought and sold quickly doubled their money, and you held on….losing money…..and yet you call them the newbies and somehow see your tactic as the better choice?

Stealth and why it reduces depth and skill

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: chronometria.3708

chronometria.3708

Look at chess. A perfectly balanced game. It really comes down to who is the more skilled player. Sure by chance the other person may slip up putting you at an advantage. It is then up to that person to recover from their slip up, and yes it is possible to do so. Again, skill is the primary factor that determines who will win.

That’s a pretty kittenty analogy, actually.

As for stealth, it’s not an opinion seeing one person hold out indefinitely against 5. I have, on rare occasions, seen one or two thieves hold their own against 20+ but I have very frequently seen 1 thief hold their own against 5. I’m talking WvW. It’s not like they can only keep this up for 30 seconds or even 1 min. They can keep it up indefinitely. Sure they can’t really finish anyone off because anyone they down is revived, but those five can’t down the thief. Even the heaviest tank guardian will eventually go down against 5 opponents. Provided we’re not talking about 5 up levels and/or under geared players.

And your point is? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen videos of a single squad (5 people) holding off zergs that outnumbered them by a factor much bigger than just 5.

Protip: A crappy thief (which covers majority of them) won’t be able to do that.
Protip 2: A skilled player is always worth more than multiple unskilled, uncoordinated and unprepared players.

True, a skilled player is indeed worth more, but when he plays a thief, that skilled player is indestructible, wheras on any other class he will eventually die.

On piken square wvw I`ve been running into an enemy stealth guild that has proven this point. I and around 5 other players spent the best part of a half hour in constant combat against a single thief and we couldn’t take him down. His restealth was so fast that I was struggling even to hit him with instant cast, no flight time attacks. He was simply shrugging off conditions and attacks of all sorts, regularly going to half health and then being full health a second or two later when he appeared again. He was killing other players in single vollies, before he could even be targeted.

People say that thieves are “squishy” and that’s simply false. They take barely a quarter of damage thrown at them and even then they seem to regenerate it away. They can kill other classes in moments. I don’t see why people think otherwise.

Thief; Why Ranger class Alwys your 1st kill?

I play a staff ele, so I am in the position of being the other favourite target of thieves. However, I at least have mist form that lets me evade the initial volley and….rangers don’t.

Oddly, rangers are one of my favoured targets as well, mainly in that I have a reflect bubble in my earth abilities. Routinely, rangers unload into that….mangle themselves and then I set them alight and open up with what I have. As to the traps, I routinely walk over them….with no real effect.

There is one sort of ranger I run into from time to time that is the complete reverse of this and presents a real danger. That sort of ranger does not rely on burst, but instead seems to have a constant rapid fire. I don’t know much about ranger builds, but they seem distinct and are the only rangers that I have trouble with.

I think one of the problems rangers have is that pve for them is boring and easy. When they arrive in a pvp or wvw environment, they simply aren’t skilled or situationally aware. The staff ele, by contrast is used to constant risk and is highly mobile, frequently retreating and then returning when the situation is safe. The staff ele in WvW makes good use of allied players, but rangers are often loners.

Its the cultural armour of your race.

Imagin, your mother’s necklace for example got more value than a random guys car to you, right?

Just like the cultural armour. They cost alot since its “Special” for the race

Unfortunately, this is a pricing myth that people are starting to believe. Originally, tier 3 cultural was quite affordable. The problem was twofold.

Firstly, some of the items were underpriced, even beyond that affordability, due to some typos in the pricing.

Secondly, you could salvage them for parts at that time.

The upshot of this was that some people noticed and bought a large amount of those items and salvaged the lot of them for materials. As a knee jerk reaction, to prevent this, the price was made deliberately ludicrous, especially considering the limited money available to players at that time. It was made so that nobody could buy it. While this was done, work went on to prevent the salvage of certain items available from vendors and the problem was neutralised in a better manner.

Unfortunately, the knee jerk price increase was never revoked and remains in this sorry state today. The fact that players have somewhat more money means that the prices seem less stupid than they actually were at the time (nobody in the game had more than about 5 gold to their name). These items should be returned to their karma cost now that the typos are corrected and the salvage exploit has been remedied.
