Thankyou for this link, I wasn’t aware of this piece of lore as I never played the original guildwars. I feel sorry for oggy, being teased for his small ears.

Personally, I would love to wear one of those zojja hats that rests on the ears….but they make my character bald and I rather like my hair.

Last night was not pretty. As we also lost [Sin] and then saw our former guilds lining up on the battlefield to hammer us. The friendlies were openly speaking about simply not going into WvW this week and I do not blame them.

This topic has two purposes, one to inform the community and two to knock some sense into the heads of all those on Piken who refuse to see how bad the situation is.

We cannot fix our server until everyone agrees to speak the truth and to accept the situation. I have seen too many who simply assumed that everything would be ok and that I and others should simply keep quiet.

Too many in Piken would rather not face the truth in the hope that someone else will fix things and I wish to state that everyone must man up, recognise the problems and do their part to make things right.

um how is it possible that a thief can kill 5ppl? u can down 1 but finishing its a bit hard after that.

the other day i saw a guild group of like 7 or something and i did the combo on the last dude and finished him… the next time i do that i manage to down 1, then all of them turn over in a second, and i had to shadowstep instantly, and i try once more they were less this time like 4 or something i jump on their glass thief down him and a guardian knocks me off and ress him and i shadowstep away.
I think ppl need to stop using glass cannon gear if they dont want to die instantly or use stun breaks becouse i think that 80% of the wvw population dont use em.
If your group is running like headless chickens of course the thief is going to win, a good thief feeds on the weak and run when he cant win.

Thieves don’t feed on the weak, they openly attack groups and come away as the victors. In addition, finishing is easy for thieves. I think we have all been helping a downed opponent only to see a flag stuck in them from an invisible thief. They find finishing downed targets to be one of the easiest and safest things they do.

I wanted to let the WvW community know some facts about what is happening on Piken Square. If you are still wishing to transfer here under a false impression of what is going on, then I wish to give you a clearer picture so that your time and our time is not wasted. There is no point in politics or deception, as we now have nothing left to lose and time has come for a change of community on the server that must not be held down by old baggage or by clueless guilds arriving.

Things to know -

1. Redguard and TUP guilds have left or are in the process of leaving the server. Redguard is heading to seafarers rest. We are at a time where bandwagoning and queues did exactly as we suspected. Our community fractured and some of our best moved on. If you wish to come to piken, expect to endure losses, to be outnumbered and to be dealing with a community that is currently unstable as it attempts to reforge itself for the future.

2. Our organisation is in tatters. With the loss of TUP, we no longer have a chairman for our meetings and we no longer have reliable meetings that everyone can agree on. There is no longer a server voice and the guilds who would lead us chose instead to move away to established communities. If you do come here, don’t expect a good welcome, or even a bad one, for you may find that the building is empty and nobody even notices that you have come.

3. The server is now moving down in tiers and will likely drop a few tiers before it is stable. If you come here seeking to get into a high tier for cheap, you are wasting your transfer money. TUP predicted that we would be the new blacktide and they were our leaders, so they were in the best position to know. The loss of Redguard, TUP and possibly others compounds this even more.

Piken will rise again, but it will be a very different server, run by different leaders and with a different ethos. If you are prepared to take a hand in that, then perhaps you would have a place with us, but the Piken of Old is gone and I want the community to know that this change is taking place.

We need a line drawn under this chapter, so that we can start writing the next one.

Indeed and we must raise it again and again until we see some changes.

I came to GW2 because I liked battles and pvp, but I find Spvp to be an unwelcome area of the game for me. I spend all my time in WvW as a commander, which involves me in a community, with planning, objectives and interesting battles.

I think one of the problems is the professions. I`m a staff ele, so if I go into spvp I`m a dead man, basically, but in wvw I function much better and have purpose with my aoe and support role. Spvp is the realm of classes like the thief and the Mesmer and they are so good at what they do that there really isn’t any point in anyone else coming to the party.

On a related note, as more and more Asura become adventurers and are exposed to the wear and tear of Tyria, I have seen a larger proportion of our race with damaged or ragged ears. This is a great concern to me, especially as our ears are powerful expressive tools as well as collectors of local sonic stimuli.

I think that it is high time that we broke down some of the racial reluctance to touch ears and that we made a point to take better care of these fantastic natural attributes. At the very least we need to get into the habit of keeping our ears in good order, perhaps appointing specialists in aural care, but I feel that a good ear massage can be highly stimulating to the creative mind.

It is about time that such ear masseurs or flexologists were given credence as a boon to the reduction of work related stresses and the increase of enthusiasm at the lab-space. Far from shying away from ear sensations, we must embrace them and then we would surely smile more, create more and have better relations with our peers.

As the original poster in this topic, I`ve kept a quiet watch upon it, without bumps and am pleased that our generated level of awesomeness has remained high enough to keep it active.

I thought I would add some depth to the issue, as I do sincerely adore my asura and sometimes find myself spending time admiring the character on the screen. I`ve tried playing other races, but none have ever had the same effect upon me as our majestically eared avatars with their large eyes and expressive voices.

This is impressive, when you think about it, for out of all the races, the asura get the least customisation and half the choices of clothes, considering that female attire almost always looks like the male equivalent. We even get less fancy versions, like that one with the “wings” that other races have….ours doesn’t have those and looks plain.

Despite all these visual handicaps, we remain superior and most appealing, with interesting npc’s and a unique city.

However, there is one thing that concerns me and that is the lack of players willing to take up the challenge of being asura. More and more I am finding myself to be the lone asura in a group, or even in an army when it comes to WvW. There are certainly asura out there, but not as many as there should be and I am keen to see this trend reversed.

Asura players need to carry the message to others as to how much fun our race is.

So do your part, colleagues and tell another player how awesome you are today!

A while back, i was chatting to one of my krewe about gate theory, while waiting for cross guild meeting to take place. We talked of highs, we talked of lows and of science.

We had not always gotten along that well, but we respected one another as scholars. Being a synergist, i was emotional, expressive and interested in social groups, wheras he, a dynamist, was enamoured of energy, gates and spatial transportation. At one point i had compared him to a “grumpy faced cave bat”, but purely in jest.

Still, his commitment to science was admirable and i was moved to affection and sought to reach out in friendship and fondness, showing that bridges could be built between us and that he was a valued member of my krewe.

I gingerly gave his majestic ears a gentle and admiring touch.

Unfortunately, this was not received well. “The ears are not for fondling”, he stated firmly and no more was said on the matter. I sensed that through our different schools that great obstacles had been set between us and eventually we drifted apart, with me taking up arms in a military mist krewe and him staying to research in rata sum.

I thought to mention my experience in order to provide other asura with a cautionary warning that cross school social interactions are much more complex than i had ever suspected. I also wished to seek some solace from other Asura who have perhaps overcome the social boundaries that keep us from seeking friendship or romance among our own kind.

I begged a friend of mine not to try for an epic weapon because i have seen what the process does to people.

Piken Square is a really lovely place to be too. There are some out there who are of the opinion that only tarnished coast counts and that piken’s community should be rounded up and shipped over there, but we pikeners are quite happy where we are and are doing well.

So yes, Piken Square rp – alive and well.

The problem with server transfers is that they can have a detrimental effect on other players. SWTOR has had issues where whole servers have been hailed one moment as the place to be (fatman) and the next they are empty and nobody knows whats going on. That sort of social instability is actually damaging to the game experience and to player confidence.

We’ve got the brains, the moves and the ears to handle anything that Tyria or the elder dragons can throw at us. We leave those bookah races in the dust.

So this is a shoutout to all of you amazing asura!

I`m one of the few staff elementalists left. These days, almost all elementalists seem to be running twin daggers. They move faster than me, they kill people quickly and with large amounts of damage.

My role, the only role i have in this game, is AOE in WvW and i`m a commander. If i am caught alone, i`m an easy target. My attacks are slow, low damage and i am reliant on others for protection, though i am relatively tough when not focused upon. Mainly, i clear walls and i control field battles with area denial, i also stop rezzers.

If i lose this, there is nothing left for me. I run full toughness and yet i can be two and three shot by a thief if i dont see it coming and even then, sometimes when i do. My class has no option to weapon swap and on several of my staff options only 2 of the 5 powers even do damage and their control is limited at best.

Ah yes and my AOE spells only hit five people at most, so even if i do target a big mass of players, chances are the best i get is that a few pull back to heal, they dont die unless they are not paying attention.

The logic of all this escapes me really. I have a limited role, one that most people wouldnt accept or enjoy…and now i am going to lose even that?

As a female asura, i rejoiced when i found the winter town outfit actually had a skirt and made me look feminine. I am tired of only having male clothes on asura toons.

Yup, i am getting the same issue on my invidia card.

The problem is now that the population of thieves is really starting to rise, especially in WvW. What was once a lone thief being a menace is now teams of thieves, often with mesmer support and nothing stops them.

Who can blame the rerollers, even i have sat down and seriously thought over whether i should join them. As yet, i havent, but I`ve seen these thief packs decimate forces of considerable size in a frighteningly short time. Its like a tide of invisible death, one moment there is an army there and then they`re dead.

As an AOE elementalist in WvW i get a lot of use from radiation field. As it constantly churns out its debuff, its a great weapon against massed players where a standard AOE would be limited. It also ignores “shake it off” and just slaps its debuff right back on if they are exposed to the field again (many just click that button and stay put).

It is very effective for attacking defenders on walls as it sits on top of the wall and has a great area denial presence.

As to the golems, i use elemental summoning instead because the golem summon makes you stand still while you do it, but elementals can be summoned while moving. In pvp situations, thats life and death.

The power suit doesnt even have roleplay potential, as it vanishes so quickly. It should have a 5 minute time limit or something so we can actually use it.

A lot are experiencing this. We have a few large posts here recording some sort of connection issue that is making us all either lag out, get input delay or simply get stuck at the loading screens. You are not alone and it seems to be getting worse each day.

I can no longer play WvW. Either i cannot get in at all, or at the first battle it cuts out. Recently i cant log into lions arch overflow either, i just get the endless load screen and then this as i`m thrown out.

I experience this in no other game and have a fantastic ping, which is essential as in FPS i am often a sniper and can notice even slight ping differences in my play experience.

I never had this, even in head start or beta. Since a week or so ago, it is crippling and as i am a commander, its ruining my contribution to my server.

Piken Square EU and getting this issue.

I am interested to see that gandara players are getting it, and the french, as we are in WvW against gandara and augury rock at the moment and its in WvW and lions overflow that the issue is the worst. It definitely seems regional.

Its true that we need better rewards for WvW, especially as it is the sole reason a good proportion of the players play and it encourages guild and server relations.

Lots of effort goes into dungeons for pve and the shiny loot options for completing them, but WvW just has junky tokens and we all pay our own money out for upgrades, which sucks.

I am even happy with them putting in some cash shop stuff for us, like flags we could slap in the ground as rally markers or just to look cool etc. But mainly , i would love to have a set of armour or a weapon that marks me out as someone who enjoys WvW. As it is, i have my commander tag, but i would rather turn that on when its useful.

I`m an ele commander and not a bunker build, but ranged AOE.

It does help to be tough, so i do tend to get downed a fair bit, but by contast, i can see a problem, like a cannon, or seige weapon and deal with it myself rather than having to rely on others to do it. There are ups and downs.

I really hope you guys get teamed 2v1 in every single match up you guys enter in the future.
This is just ridiculous to watch both servers fighting together against Gandara.
I haven’t seen any AR vs PS activity in the last 48 hours, keep it up. Only thing you do is teaming up versus Gandara so you don’t lose that much rating.
Anyway that tactic won’t lead your servers to victory in long term, it will only make them weaker.

I’m proud of the Gandarians that stay up to try to keep the lead and even if we lose it one day, to keep our server getting the ratings these two servers try to rob from us.

Someone’s gonna come here and tell me that we did the “same thing” vs Augury Rock the other day, but those are big lies. We still kept fighting vs Piken.

You will find that some of us on Piken Square agree. We have been on the receiving end of alliances and are used to being “double teamed” but that is no excuse for doing it ourselves. As a commander, with the support of a small group of like-minded players, i took the step of breaking the “official alliance” between Piken and Augury.

We wanted to send a message that Piken Square will win on its own merits, through fighting tooth and nail, not by doing back alley deals with other servers.

Gandara has fought well and if they deserve the ranking more than Piken, my server, then i salute them. Points must be earned, not bargained for.

Some on my server say i lacked “honour” by going against this alliance. I prefer to see them as lacking the will to win on their own. Piken square will not be known as the server that does deals for its victories. We will win because we are better or lose because we are worse and it will be fairly done.

I love Asuran ears – they are beautiful!

They are a sign of intelligence and being perceptive of the world around us. Ears are smexy!

I get this when i run about in places like lions arch. The head goes down into the body, as if there was no neck and when i stop, it pops up again. It has been like this for a long time, so i am surprised nobody has made a topic on it till now.

Cost, mainly. All the best foods set you back 5 or so silver a use and that adds up. Considering the very low returns, a lot of people would rather have that as cash than as a possible bonus.

Of course, there is a lot to be said from the less good food. Often that gives a notable bonus at a few copper a use (i love ten percent magic find lemon bars for example). Unfortunately, the auction house doesnt let you search for food in a decent manner, so lots of people only know about the more famous and thus more expensive food types.

Necro. Better durability, uptime and damage.

We would be better off having bag and bank space as a fixed upgrade item that can be bought with a predictable amount of money. As it is, we end up with this messy conversion system that isnt a true exchange anyway, as its taxed so you cant buy and resell gems for profit.

I enjoyed the poem and its true, Asuran needs must be taken into consideration. I like the idea of ear socks or mitts as proposed above, but think that they could be made into a much more elegant “ear shield”, like some of the asuran style hats which add almost a form of barding to the ears.

Asuran ears are important in communication, so while we heat them, they must not have their movement unduly limited. A light, but heated extra layer that lays over the ear surface would certainly suffice.

I`ve somewhat lost hope of positive changes. Last time we had a positive feeling we instead got nerfs to tornado etc.

I remain hopeful that i may be surprised, but its a thin hope and not one i want to put much thought to.

I am just pleased to see Fort Ranik get the beating they soundly deserve. Opportunist backstabbing and double teaming do nothing for a server’s reputation and Riverside, thankfully, has invested time in beating them soundly at last.

Fort Ranik can join the “naughty list” – no wintersday presents for them.

We need weapon swap. Other classes get a choice of two excellent ability racks, often offering alternate range or function….whereas half our abilities are pointless.

Take air staff. It’s used for travel and fails to deal damage properly. In fact, only two of its 5 functions are actually intended for damage dealing. The travel power is something warriors get on a banner and their banners alone make our attunements look terrible.

If you took a good weapon like greatsword and stuffed all the banner powers onto it and then took away warrior weapons swap, then thats where we are, more or less. Other classes can be specialist in two areas and have none of their space wasted with nonsense as its all available to them in other ways. We have half our abilities unused, filled with junk, or non functional with our traits.

Quite a few weapons got skins at halloween…guns, greatswords, daggers, shields, more shields, bows and so on. Staff got two “skins”, but i have only ever seen one person using either, as opposed to the shields and greatsword that i see quite a bit of.

Frankly, staff skins suck. Also, staff abilities tend to suck as well (ele tends to be D/D these days, necro staff is lolworthy and mesmers tend to go greatsword for range).

A candy cane staff would be super special awesome for my asura (i am one of those die hard ele’s who actually uses a staff and does a lot of WvW where its useful). If i am going to play a class/ weapon combo that sucks, i want to taste mint when i suck it.

I hope its the reverse of the clocktower, so playing asura is actually the easy option instead of being completely blinded by fat charr and norns.

I am just happy to see newcomers get into the game. They get a hat, i get a game that has a healthy population and thats gift enough for me.

I`m still hesitant to get gold with gems, mainly as the things i would like, such as a commander tag or the racial armour are just so horribly overpriced. I feel better about very slowly saving the in-game gold to get those items.

Similarly, after i have a commander tag, i wont actually have anything left to spend gold on anyway.

I too recommend gunnar’s hold. They have a good organisation going for them and deserve to have a few more guilds sticking with them.

Still, all this bandwagoning does nobody any good. They really should be limiting transfers or charging for them now.

Well, today i witnessed the most impressive battle that i have seen to date in WvW. Namely the several hour long defence of Piken Keep in EB against the full force of two opposing servers. Without supplies and held together with nothing but the will to survive, this last blue island in a sea of red and green held strong against what could only be described as a hurricane of golems, trebuchets and manpower from all sides.

Piken Square – Unbowed and Unbroken.

I ran into a group of bots who were “swimming” under the ground in WvW borderlands. Luckily, AOE could affect them as they briefly pop up to loot.

Butchered the lot of them….several times….but they just came back. Still, the recent bot purge seemed to get rid of them, but i was worried as to how they did the underground thing.

While it is customary for divine avatars of Grenth and Dwayna to supervise this portion of the festive calendar, we are sure that the presence of a few Asura will more than make up for their loss. I dont enjoy dungeons. but for the monthly i manned up and did the fractals. I found them tolerable, but once i had my 7 i stopped doing them.

During that experience i had bad groups, trouble getting groups, massive armour damage from a 2 hour encounter with the dredge suit boss and a selection of positive and negative experiences. I was happy to be finished with it.

Now i see i have to do it again and though i now know how to avoid the bad groups much better than i did, i know that i will find it hard to get into a group and i`ll be wasting time in lions arch trying to sort that out. I`ll likely run into at least one idiot asking me to link my gear (which is full exotic, but i`ll not group with someone who has that attitude).

I already feel that the game is trying to force me to do fractals as that seems to be the only way to get a decent income. It shouldnt need a monthly on top of that.
