No. Most of irony moved on to other games/guilds/nothing, though we all still stay in communication as we are friends. Lack of games supporting the type of game play the guild preferred were the issue. As fun as this game can be at times, it doesn’t really have the oomph that other games have had in the past. Oh well… maybe ESO?
Not to mention issues in this game like queue bugs and culling. Silly that a modern mmo with ‘cutting edge’ technology can’t even manage to match the game play of games that came out a decade before them
Some people spend too much time playing with math without being able to apply it properly to the situation. With that said, a few people need to think a little more about what they posted.
Anyways, we need to keep the trolling down to a minimum please. BG isn’t in the tier anymore so lets keep it civil with good fights all around.
Blackgate played well in Tier 1 the last couple of weeks. Maybe you just don’t like them.
thats pretty much it.
BG won T2 for so long a lot of hate got pushed their way from those they were fighting.
I think BG has shown they have both the skill and attitude to do as well in T1 as anyone.
Personally I just got tired of the chest thumping they did before we had guilds transfer in for off peak NA hours. Silly to beat your chest for ticking away at 600+ uncontested, ya know?
Let it go already.
Pretty sure I am entitled to my opinion. Don’t you have your own match up thread to post in? Please try to be a little respectful to TC will ya? They don’t have the overnight crew to keep up with you.
One thing I noticed now that I am in T1 … what is up with the blob trains running around in circles? I thought that tactic stopped working against people months ago, so I was surprised to see people still using it.
I am loving these fights so far though. /salute SoS and my original server JQ

Hmm, everyone transfers to the top servers creating a few jam-packed servers and a whole lot of empty ones, and now you guys decide that Anet’s queue system is broken because it takes you forever to get into WvW. It’s not a coincidence, queues will happen when 80% of the WvW population are on 20% of the servers. I’m on CD and have no queues anywhere… ever.
Again. What people are saying here is that there were very long queues when the map was not full, or even close to full. I waited almost 2 hours to get into a BL only to find there weren’t many of us there at all. I tried other BLs and never did get in, while others were reporting that the map in those BLS were not full.
Put it this way. It was like lining up at a popular club watching the bouncer let 2 people in every half hour and then once finally in myself finding the club half empty. That’s what was happening. Definitely seems like a problem to me.
Every person I see complaining about long queues are in tiers 1-3. Where is your evidence that the map is not full? Here is a link from a post (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/Any-Tarnished-Coast-citizens-agree/first#post1334270) Habib made a few days ago when TC complained about the same problem, they see nothing on their end and I tend to trust their queries more than players’ anecdotal evidence.
How do you explain us camping TC at their portal because we couldn’t find any one to fight before reset. How do you explain that they few people we did see from TC had an outmanned buff, yet players in TC were reporting they had a queue for that borderland?
I have a feeling all three of our servers are feeling the effect of whatever garbage is going on with the queues. Kind of makes it hard to get commanders in on maps and our guilds together to play.
Before reset, we were camping TC’s spawn in a BL and the people we saw had outmanned buff…. but according to them they couldnt get people in the zone due to queues.
How can you have an outmanned buff and a queue?
This would be more fun if we all had bg in here too to beat up on
I spent an hour today chaining events in PvE just to quantify things a little better. There were literally 12-18 friendly players (i counted) doing the events with me.
When the mobs started rushing in on the camps, for the first couple of passes, they all were showing up. After that, the mobs were rushing in their normal packs and you simply could not see them unless you were in the middle of them. By the end of the event, you couldn’t even see most of the mobs when you were standing in the middle of them and taking damage.
Is it possible that the corpses/loot on the ground are counting as well in PvE?
What about WvW? Are pets, npcs, corpses, loot bags, etc. all counting towards the cull? I am guessing everything but the loot bags are because I see pets, npcs, and corpses disappear/reappear as well.
SoR’s NA force was equal to if not a bit stronger than BG even before they got a bunch of transfers from SBI. We were able to hang with BG and SoR okay during NA primetime hours back when we faced them at the same time. With SoR out and FA in to provide some meaningful resistance, I’d expect a much more even matchup during NA primetime hours. During off hours BG will probably own the entire map.
I really hope so. It is really rough for TC to take on a heavy hitter alone.
Can we please keep this thread to the topic at hand?
I’d really like to see it stay open through the beginning of this match rather than it being closed before reset even occurs..
Oh I agree with you. Hopefully a moderator will come in here and clean up all the blatant forum violations.
Its amazing to me that the biggest complainers of this move is SOR, when they are the ones exploiting the rating to jump straight into near 1st position without ever having to face a tier 1 server. Ah, well actually it doesn’t amaze me at all.
The SOR jump in rating is the reason they are reseting the points. They are out of whack and the system needs tuning, the result of SoR gaining so much rating in three weeks is evidence of this. BG earned its T1 spot after 8 weeks of hard hard week by week fighting to get to where we did. SoR now has the chance to do the same and earn their T1 spot instead of rocketing by pvdooring a dead server with a high rating.
BG did it, are you afraid to put in the work to earn it? You should be pleased, if you do get to Tier 1, it will be because you earned it, not because your killing siege raiser over and over and over again.
Wait a minute. I see what you are doing here. For over 8 weeks BG fought SoR when that server could not even field 20 people across all borderlands during oceanic hours. NA players were logging out at night after thoroughly dominating the borderlands, ticking away at 400 on many nights, only to see scores posts in the middle of the next day with them ticking away at 40 and BG at 600+.
How exactly is SORs PvDoor any different than the PvDoor that BG did for weeks? Please explain. Thanks
Then we did have to slowly work back up, and it gave us the time we needed to ground out our guild base, get organized, recruit, train, gear up. When we did make it into Tier 1 (most SBI transfers happened after they went to Tier 2, we were not handed our spot because they died while still in Tier 1) things were pretty tough on us, even though we were blowing out Tier 2 the very week before (although we still went up in rating).
To those not fighting in Tier 1, it is a different game, and I’m not talking about coverage. Even in the last two weeks, the meta changed again, I’m not going to go into specifics, but things are played a little differently in Tier 1 than in Tier 2 and it did take BG a couple of weeks to adjust.
As for myself, I was really hoping we could edge out SOS so we could fight SOR this week, even with their new henchmen, and see if bandwagon or trial by fire prevails, but it looks like that isn’t going to happen for awhile and who knows what our servers will look like when we do happen to match up again.
So let me see if I have this straight. You are calling SOR a bandwagon server despite the fact they they fought BG for over 2 months and kept it close mostly despite lacking the coverage of BG. Saying this despite the fact that SOR lost some of their coverage to BG during that matchup with BG.
However, your numbers came from careful cultivation and server reputation, but SOR’s came from bandwagons. You are saying you earned your place in T1 despite the fact that you fought for weeks against a server that couldn’t field 20 people during oceanic hours, yet still took that long to advance to T1. Then when you actually have to fight people instead of empty borderlands, you last all of a couple of weeks. Then you say that SOR didn’t earn there way there?
Is this what you are saying in entirety? Just want to make sure I have it correct and didnt miss anything.
Gentlemen, the answer is simple for me. If I have to play and lose by 330k to SoR for one more week. I will simple uninstall the game and seek a refund.
Considering that I played another game with a 3 ‘realm’ mass combat system. I know what this new ranking will do if not implemented and monitored for score fixing cough SoR cough
If SOR was score fixing as you are complaining about, they did a horrible job judging by the scores the past two weeks. I understand where you are coming from though with losing by a huge margin despite being competitive during prime time. Been there and done that for months. Sorry bro
Pretty sure sanctum of rall was holding its own prior to the influx of guilds it got over the past two weeks. 95% of the people they got came in off peak north america, which is why there was such point gain. Unfortunately TC was mostly stuck fighting them alone because SBI lost a lot of people.
BG is back in T2 already? Given the vastly superior coverage you guys had over us and taking all the point pretty much over night, I thought for sure you would have the firepower to sustain in T1 indefinitely. Did you lose oceanic/sea/euro guilds or something?
The people complaining about AoE really need to play other classes and learn about them. Some classes have no choice but to use AoE attacks because they were designed around them. Any kind of general nerf to AOE damage would require complete class redesign and all the balancing that has to go on around it.
ANet said they are aware of this, at least on the PvE side of things, and have said they are planning a fix. Their opinion is currently AoE does too much damage in comparison single target attacks, so they are going to nerf individual hits in AoE somehow.
So, they will do once more mistake in the game design. Cant say more here.
Yeah making AOE even less effective will break the back of the game. As it stands, this game is far too zerg centric in WvW. Given that most of the community is playing the game for WvW …yeah
So I upgrade recently and was able to experience both forms of culling on two different systems.
My old system had an E8500 wolfdale dual core OC’d to just above 4ghz and a Radeon 4850. I was lucky to see 40fps even in heart of the mist at lowest settings and would drop down to single digits in big fights in WvW.
My current system has an I7-3770k currently clocked at 4.2 stable with plenty of room to grow and a 7970. Using the same settings for reference, I get over 200fps in Heart, over 120 in WvW running around, and the drops to the 60’s in huge fights. (also have game and OS installed on SSD now)
Original Culling:
Sometimes enemies and mobs would not appear until you were standing in the middle of them when there were a lot of friendlies in the area. I could pretty much always see people on my side. In big fights the old system was hitching for me due to the low fps of the old system but it was smooth as silk on the new hardware. The thing was, on both systems, it seemed like I would actually see all/most of the enemies at some point without losing friendlies.
New/Trial Culling:
No need to split this really between the new and old system, because the results are the same.
When there are a lot of friendly players in the area, they fade in and out of view. One second they are there, and the next they vanish. More enemy players seem render from distance, but the more enemies there are, the less I am able to see my teammates and coordinate with them. Not only that, when there are a ton of friendlies and enemies in the area… not only do friendlies disappear into thin air, but enemies do as well. This includes enemies I am actively doing damage too. Both the new and old system in large fights is a little ‘off’ it seems like it is hitchy or stuttering. I can’t attribute it to FPS or CPU bottlenecks on my end as I have monitored and logged them during large fights. I can’t even attribute it to network activity on my end either as I am nowhere close to pegging my bandwidth in these situations.
To make it even worse, in PvE, I can no longer see mobs half the time if there are several friendlies in the area, even when standing in the middle of them and taking damage. No marker and no name tag, -and- friendly players appear and disappear.
Lastly there are a few odd things that happen once in a while. For example, I can be running around with 4-5 other people, no enemies in view, and very few mobs and still have players on my side fade in and out of thin air. I have also been out soloing and seen 2 people capping a point, figured I would disrupt them, use a gap closer to get to them quickly, and attack… only to find myself standing in the middle of a 50 man zerg. Then there is the random model that runs around with no name tag and you cant quickly tell if they are enemy or friendly…. doesnt matter if 2 other people are on screen or 40.
The current culling is better in some aspects, but overall, it is a far worse game play experience than the old system in PvE, zerg fights, and small manning in WvW. Something just isn’t right about it.

Oh please, I’m not trolling. I honestly wish the best for SoR, but I can’t say I have any respect for what you guys are doing.
Ok, if you aren’t trolling then you are just bitter and angry. Fair enough.
What exactly is SoR doing? Most of us have been here for months fighting uphill battles against superior numbers, and never giving up or refusing to WvW along the way.
You are upset that we got players from different timezones. That is it. Our prime time presence has been pretty much the same outside of the 10 minute queues on most night becoming 20 (on average, not reset). In other words, you aren’t fighting any more people than you were before during NA hours… though it does look like you have less people out in WvW recently.
You shouldn’t get all worked up about the points that tick away while you are offline and just enjoy the fights you have. (and its not like we rub your nose in it the way BG did to both of us)
Wouldn’t it be better overall for you to drop some of the pure glass cannon for extra health pool at least to survive someone using a gap closer and three shotting you? I do it all the time to glass cannon staff eles in the back line because I know they can wreck people if left alone, and they are quick easy kills.
For example, I do have a dps set. It has some toughness in it and enough vit to push me up to 20k. With my food and stacks, I am sitting at 81% crit damage with 53% base crit (not including fury). I can still hit like a freight train, but I can stay a little less mobile in regards to required positioning for safety and moving out of damage. It also stops people with stealth or gap closers from owning me before I can really respond.
Well according to most people on the forums, D/D Ele’s are overpowered and there is a nerf incoming. So brace yourself!! As others have said, read Daphoenix’s guide and then head to the mists and practice on the target dummies and the attackable NPC’s. This way you learn rotations, managing cooldowns and how the profession will play.
Really, I want a damage buff for d/d ele and a survival nerf. d/d ele does too little damage that it better to ignore them but they cannot die
Not quite right, you can do a crap ton of damage as a d/d ele if you change gear out. Of course at that point you sacrifice survivability.
What you are proposing to do can already be accomplished via gear alone.
I like to see what less aoe skills would do to gw2.
You exaggerated with your one shot statement by a long shot. Please keep it real. With that said, i will at least respond to the genuine part of your post.
Less AoE and you will pretty much always have to roll in a big zerg as small numbers won’t have a chance against larger. I am not sure how much less AoE you can have when it already hits for mediocre damage on most abilities, has a 5 target limit, and many of them can easily can be moved out of or avoided all together.
This isn’t really a thread about thieves, but I would just like to note that a gc thief can burst 16k+ in 1 – 1.5 sec against a balanced PVT ele with 1500ish toughness and 18-19k HP. So no, it isn’t strictly about gc vs gc and what happens there.
I see it happen on my ele all the time, and I do it to others on my thief.
Hmm really? I haven’t noticed that personally. Maybe there are less gc thieves running around these days.
daph PM me i’ll pass on my condition build. its pretty good. also note in metoer shower that unless they cannot get to you easily do not use meteor shower. it is a death wish. a channel skill which allow them to get closer to you while you can do nothing.
There is no such thing as a good condition build as a staff elementalist.
Also you can use meteor shower perfectly fine in most situations if you rotate through your AE damage spike correctly.
uh yes their is i’ve experimented with it and its pretty decent
No there isn’t. However, I will be happy to listen to you explain how you both keep enough conditions on enough people reliably to warrant doing that instead of one of the many methods of increasing front load damage.
You can keep burning on targets consistently if you trait to do so. We can get into a whole separate discussion as to why that in of itself may gimp you overall. I really hope you aren’t relying on keeping bleed stacks on people either. Eruption puts 6 on target, but due to attunement cycling and/or cool down, you cannot consistently keep the stacks on people without gimping yourself by staying in earth. Shockwave’s bleed isn’t even worth bringing up.
But yeah, explain how throwing points into condition damage for a burn + a couple of bleeds once in a while, all back load is worth more than hitting harder all the time, front load.

I presume based on my experience in wvw (which i’m sortof not doing much until you sor leaves) and these forums and some other stuff. So I feel a bit confident in my presumptions, if you don’t mind.
It is too bad your presumptions are baseless and outright incorrect. I invite you to research the history of SoR and see for yourself. I know you wont, because you are either trolling or you are actually this bitter and angry ….and are lashing out.
If You, My Friends, are on the server Tarnished Coast or Stormbluff Isle, please read my post. If you are our friends on Sanctum of Rall, this is not for you.

We find ourselves in a position. An unenviable position wherein we seemed to be locked in a battle against, yet again, a superior force who has the unenviable position of having a wealth of power and a dearth of wit. This is not new for us. It is clear that SoR intends to be great and who is anyone to stop them? We wish them well. But lets discuss us.What, my dear Toasters, do we have to lose? We have everything to gain. Ours is not a community based upon winning. Sure it’s great, but haven’t you seen the signs? Where is the Golem God? Why is everyone mad? We have nothing to gain from winning and everything to lose from it. Let these Sanctum folks head to tier 1. Who cares? Imagine the friends we make on our way all the way down. Imagine the friends we make back up!

Well spoken, but do not presume SoR lacks a great community.
I presume they are being condescending
You presume wrong.
And what, in this great forum, would lead me to presume otherwise?
The SoR community is here, congratulating each other and thanking everyone for playing and urging us all to see it their way. Arguing, laughably, that we should worry about our own community instead of SoRs. Well, we’re not not that worried. SoR is just another zerg.
Upon what structure is your community built?
Do a little research instead of being so angry and bitter bro.
What structure is the TC community built on by the way?
RP server.
We’re not bros.
Apparently you are. You are the one acting in a such a manner to get me to label you as such. Why don’t you read up on Sanctum of Rall and its history and community before coming to the forums and acting this way?
Yeah there is a reason, but people tend to ignore that when complaining about classes being having things that theirs do not.
For example, eles have the lowest base defense in the game. They are both in the lowest health pool and can only wear light armor. Thus they were given more mobility (when dagger) and more range/control (when staff) to balance it out. Basically while a warrior may be able to face tank something, an elementalist has to use mobility to compensate.
The biggest problem with cooking in my opinion is that there are too few gathering nodes to support the fact the many of the commonly used end game food items use the same main ingredients. It creates artificial inflation when special event items (like ghosts) for example come into the mix.
The biggest issue people have with making money is not getting ingredients for the right prices. Its kind of amusing to watch the ebb and flow of food items based on the material prices. The listing price and the sell fee also make it more difficult to turn reasonable profit for time invested, especially when you have a low margin.
We have two classes and only two that have 1 shot abilities.
We have three classes that can three shot enemies all the while keeping their tremendous defense and vitality in the process.
I can see a glass cannon thief perhaps one shot killing a glass cannon elementalist due to the light armor and being in the lowest health pool. A full exotic/80 glass cannon ele has around 14k health.
A full glass cannon ele can kill another full glass cannon ele if they are setup a certain way, have stacks, and actually hit the other glass cannon with churning earth. (assuming the other ele is too stupid to move out of the area during the 4 second channel or simply count to 3 and hit the dodge button).
Are there other things that can do over 14k to someone in one hit (regardless if it is a 4 second wind up or not like churn), again assuming their target is a glass cannon ele with light armor, base toughness, and 14k health?
I think almost any class can both three shot or be three shotted if they are in full glass cannon gear. There is a huge difference between hitting a cannon ele with 14k health and 1200 toughness compared to hitting a p/v/t ele with 20k health and 1800 toughness for example.
Unfortunately there are far too many people running around in zerker gear to do high damage numbers, that turn around and whine about being 3 shot by someone.
Was doing the EB JP the other day, and let a bunch of SoR go past me (they waved, I waved, OK we’re having fun jumping). When I got to the top, they waved at me again and sat, and I waved back, fine, hostilities postponed. Then, after I’d turned around to jump they ambushed me. It was kind of funny – were they so scared they had to ambush me from behind 5 vs 1? – but also super cheap and annoying.
If you guys are going to camp the JP and ambush people, fine. If you just want to do the JP, fine. But don’t be cheap cheesers and ambush people after waving at them and sitting OK?
Sounds like they they were trolling you to get a response. You really shouldn’t give them the satisfaction by complaining about it on the forums. It will only encourage that behavior.

Oh, he is referring to those little blessing buffs from the heart merchants?
Also, don’t forget about things like buffs that can be put up on things like claimed keeps that affect players there.
Guild banner buffs
lettucemode, culling will never be removed completely so I’m not sure what you’re talking about.
Never is a big word to use especially given the fact that other MMOs can and have suppported hundreds of players on screen together without any culling.
Also regarding gear….
Please don’t run around in all zerker gear. You die way too fast, ultimately do less damage in the long run, cause rallies, and are a draw on your team mates. If you do go high damage, make sure you have a decent level of survivability mixed in.
Full Berserker, 30/30 in offensive trait lines, 10 in utility, 0 in vit/tough/boon/heal trait lines.
Runes of the Scholar.
Nooooooooooooooo
Pro players go zerk.
I must be super pro, cause I three shot ordinary run of the mill pro players.
A staff is best on keep defense/offense I have found out because
when used in open field zerg battles there is so much movement going on
that normally when you cast your AOE the enemy is already in another place.
Nah, you are just putting the AE on where your enemies are instead of where they will be when the damage lands.
They pretend community. We have community. Let them have t1 or t2. We have a better game.
y u so mad bro?
SoR had a community a long time ago and it is still in place. Obviously people were impressed enough with our community that they decided to utilize the last of the free transfers to join it.
Don’t hate so much

PS: using more GPU memory is not a sign of quality. GW2 is well optimized in this regard.
Link to old information thus a useless post. ANyone that follows or cares about this issue has read that already.
I also never said that using more GPU memory is a sign of high quality. You assumed that, but it was not what I said. (One issue is how CPU bound this game is, to see where I was going with my comment)
(edited by covenn.7165)
I was hoping for the best, but I am having a bad feeling about this. For the most part, the trial system was a total bust to most players. Sure a few thought it was better, but the vast majority didn’t.
I am not sure why the ‘bubble of influence’ can’t be expanded to well past normal render distance to give you more time to relay the information to the client until you can optimize your code to perform better. I assume your network and server config is expandable and not in the stone age? You should be able to just throw more hardware/bandwidth at it.
The client will be aware of the models before they are in render distance and can load up the default models until they get the rest of the information from the server. This way everything that we are currently experiencing in rendering range now occurs off screen.
This is one of the things DAOC did a decade ago (and was responsible for the ‘lagdar’ effect once in a while). Why can’t you do this now?
Edit: Not only that, you need to make better use of memory on GPUs. For the most part, this game hardly touches mine.
How about Skill? It’s always been reliable for me.
Bad response and worse troll. Obviously skill is first, but if you don’t use food your aren’t optimizing yourself.
So I think they will still be worth while to use in some circumstances, but wont be nearly as good. Kind of sucks because I stocked up on them while they were cheap. What are you going to switch to?
/hugs my SSD
:P
(Seriously, do yourself a favor and buy one)
What does an SSD drive have to do with server side culling?
I have one too and even have the game installed on it. Still culls.
Lets try this again…
Can an officer/gm from Choo shoot me a pm when you get a moment? If not, I will grab someone in game tonight.
danke
Yeah i’ll get someone to send you one. Don’t exactly know if they will be sending you a mail or PM on the forums.
I got his contact info. Taken care of already.
Thanks
Many of the points in this thread are why ele’s need a nerf. Mainly “You don’t ever have to aim or target anyone and can run around rolling your face on the keyboard.”
You couldn’t be more wrong. You do have to aim, you do have to target, you do have to selectively use abilities, and you have more of them to make a decision about compared to other classes. All the while having less damage and health pool.
The reason why most ele’s are going this way is because it is really the only effective way to roll in most situations.
