The ‘best’ commander classes are those with high survivability and direct sustainability to control the fight. For example, Necros and guardians are good choices.
You do not want classes like thieves, d/d eles bouncing all over the place, or anyone running glass cannon ever.
One could argue pure bunker-spec D/D Ele. Survivability, maneuverability, and some nice escape techniques. Of course, I ever get a tag, it’s going on my main (Sylvari Mesmer).
No you are about as incorrect as you can be about this. A D/D ele cannot sustain in the front line even bunker spec, they rely completely on mobility. The also do not have range to afford them to sit in the back. Last thing you want is a commander that is bouncing all over the battle field. A staff ele could do it though.
Spammer warriors bull rushing really doesnt impress me any more. Really easy to break.
Elementalist: These have some insanely powerful combo finishers that can be used to give area buffs and are currently used in some annoying tactics where everyone has perma-swiftness, tons of might, etc. They also have very good AOEs, and d/d elementalists are considered very overpowered. However, there has been clear talk from Anet that nerfs are coming.
You are misinformed and need to learn about classes before speaking.
A bunker d/d ele is good support in a zerg fight, but poor damage. A DPS d/d ele in a zerg fight more often than not is a huge negative because they die before doing much and trigger rallies. The only realistic argument that D/D eles are overpowered is 1v1. Not because they dish out a ton of damage, but due to the fact that they can outlast people.
A staff ele is low mobility and low defense regardless of their gear. They can use CC fields to control areas of the fight while doing moderate/above average AOE damage (compared to the capability of other classes). If they go full glass cannon, they will have to rely 100% of positioning and range as most classes can rip through their light armor and 14k health and low toughness with 2 or 3 hits. (sometimes 1 hit from another high damage glass cannon)
D/D eles can only keep perma swiftness on themselves. Staff eles can both keep perma swiftness on themselves and add supplemental swiftness to people around them by dropping their air 5 combo field and having people blast finish in it.
Regarding might stacks. A ‘buffbot’ bunker d/d ele variation running boon duration can in fact keep dishing might stacks out to allies. Like anything else, this is limited to how many players it can effect. If people stay on top of the ele, they can probably keep slightly north of 10 on them on average. Of course, people don’t generally stay on top of the ele unless using the noob zergball tactic. heh. Staff eles typically don’t provide much in the way of might stacks. They do add some to allies, but it is typically extremely minimal because their fire field generally does not get dropped at their feet like a d/d’s whose main one if pbaoe.
So yeah, you really need to learn what you are talking about before buying into forum nonsense that is far out of touch with reality.
To be good in allies zerg you must have:
(than more of it you have than better you are)
1. Good, fast and constant nontarget wide AOE-damage
2. Good nontarget wide AOE support skills
3. Good survivability (HP, Defense, Self-cleanse etc.)
4. Good nontarget AOE-control
5. Good nontarget AOE-debuffs1. Elem, Guardian, Warrior, Engi, Necro, Thief, Ranger
2. Mesmer (portal and veil only, but it is very-very useful), Elem, Guardian, Warrior, Necro
3. Guardian, Warrior, Elem, Thief
4. Warrior, Guardian, Elem, Necro, Engi
5. Elem, Necro, Engi, ThiefSo, we have a 3 leaders: Elem, Guardian and Warrior. Every zerg musthave 2-3 Mesmers too.
All another classes – unneeded. Especially Rangers and Thieves – this is solo-gank or small scaled group (2-4 ppls) classes.
Just as a note to the above post. Some of those classes can do exactly what he is saying, however, in some cases they are mutually exclusive to being able to do other things well in that list at the same time. It is dependent on weapon, spec, and gear.
The biggest impact classes in zerg fights:
1. Necro
2. Mesmer
3. Guardian
4. Elementalist
Whenever you are fighting against other players, spike (burst) damage is superior. The only time DPS is superior is in PvE fights. This has been true in every MMO to date.
Regarding full glass cannon…. get used to being 2/3 shot by people that close the gap to you.
Sharing lightning aura and frost aura is not overrated imo. It most definitely has its time and place.
Explain to me how you plan on keeping enough bleeds on enough targets to make sacrificing front load damage for damage over time. Please consider the average condition cure rate by the average player too.
It would be wonderful if the scores stayed this close all week, we all know it wont, but it would be wonderful.
Also have to say, the “queue bug” makes WvW better, hope it doesn’t get fixed.
You are dead wrong and being selfish. There is nothing better about anybody waiting in a queue for hours due to bugs. It makes it difficult for friends and guilds to play together, people to change characters, or for people that crash to get back in the game.
Pretty simple really, JQ is a server of casuals/bandwagoners , when the queue is full for everyone (all 3 teams) on reset they get smashed into the ground. When we dont have queue on any maps they have queues on all maps they gain ground.
Do you really need to post nonsense like this?
You might as well call SoR a bandwagon server too despite the fact that our NA team has been playing together for months and steadily climbing up the ranks from near the bottom. Many of our NA people came from JQ a few months ago.
Lol, getting sandwiched between JQ defense and SoR attack while trying to take a keep is quite interesting. Nevertheless, seems like some truce has been established here. Oh well, I appreciate the difficulty of 1 vs 2, else we wouldn’t be SoS
Don’t go there please. It is pointless whining and never the truth, especially when it comes to SoR. In fact, we have been asked to have truces/alliances with enemy servers in the past. Not only did we deny them, we switched our focus primarily to them for having the gall to ask.
In a three sided fight, you are always fighting 2 opponents.
I see some mad people here rofl
You need to read again and actually pay attention to the conversations. Nobody is really trolling or getting angry.
The queue bugs are annoying. The relative coverage of servers is just a fact of life now.
Hopefully we will continue to get great fights and people will still be enjoying this game in the months to come.
Oh you are most definitely correct about this and we all know it in this match up. Fortunately our fights have been extremely fun, competitive, and back and forth so far. Most fun I have had playing this game to date (when I get through the broken kitten queue system)
I don’t see that as truth at all. The first 48 hours is the weekend when people tend to play more. The reality is that the matchup is decided m-f when people are going to work/school/whatever and coverage comes into play more.
You are partially correct. People do play more more of weekends. That is true. You are wrong though about games being decided Monday-Friday. Look at this week’s match-ups. 5 or 6 out of the 8 match-ups were decided by Sunday night.
The point though is that 48 hours is enough time to determine a winner in most cases. There is no downside to having 48 hour matches.
Perhaps my perspective is skewed by playing on SoR. We had been able to keep it close or outright lead against any server on the weekend, only to lose points during the off NA ours during weekdays due to lack of coverage. This has since changed for us somewhat, but you can see where my perspective comes from.
Farming those kills @SoR Bay. Almost like exploiting ; )
Tell me about it. You in the lord room and JQ on the other side. Think I wracked up 500 kills and 0 deaths over the life of that. I did get downed once though when I didn’t see the portal bomb on my head. Meanies made me get my stacks back Fun fun fights all around.
You had to be wracking up the kills too given all that siege you had in there. sick
I am just sad that this is getting screwed up after this week. For weeks on end I have been looking forward to fighting JQ, my old server.
It will be more like two weeks if they ‘seed’ the rankings some, but only if they do that and do it effectively.
The easiest way to lose a customer for life is by ignoring them once.
Absolutely the truth.
WvW right now is 100% about coverage. If everyone had equal coverage, skill would actually matter. JQ is going to win this week (and more than likely every week until people are bored with steamrolling) due to their influx of SEA/EU transfers.
Well I can tell you SoR will do our best to slow them down.
Amazing that a decade ago a MMO I played was able to handle several hundred players on screen at once. Even more amazing, that it was still playable for me on the old hardware and crappy, low bandwidth internet connection I had.
what is this guy talking about?
Go JQ! you deserve that no.2 spot compared to SoS
I give you a 4 out of 5 for that backhanded complement. Keep up the good work.
base from my personal opinion, JQ fights harder than SoS but don’t have the proper coverage. So i’ll say you need to grab that spot from SoS. They do not deserve it.
Way too early for you to give opinions like that. Not only is your experience limited to one map at a time, but your experience is limited to exactly half a normal weekday.
Don’t talk about coverage yet. Also don’t talk about who fights harder or who deserves it. Judging by the score and the fights we have had so far, EVERYONE is fighting hard.
Less than 2,000 points between first and second place and a spread of less than 10,000 points between all three servers on a Monday and SoR is already trash talking.
You people are simply adorable!
Are you even reading the forums? Who is trash talking?
Not the case with T8 though. SF is far too strong for ET and FC, but the next server above us has rating of about 400 higher than us.
Selfishly, I’m glad for the reset, or I fear we may be facing ET and FC for a long time.
You ok with being stuck fighting some of the current T1 and T2 servers for the next month instead?
Do you even understand the rankings? BECAUSE the ranking system just had a fresh restart and there’s high volitility, SF will shoot straight down after Kaineng destroys them in a similar way that they’re destroying the other 2 servers in T8 currently. I predict it will take AT MOST 3 weeks to have mostly balanced matchup, followed by completely balanced match ups in the next 2 weeks for the remainder of GW’s lifespan. Not to mention that the rating system needed adjustments. This reset was so freaking needed for so many tiers yet all you can complain about is 2 weeks of discomfort and just shrugging it off when my server and ET have had several months (actually, since launch) of unbalanced matchups because of the old ratings.
Do you understand the rankings? Isn’t it all speculation at this point or did ANET release some actual concrete information on what is going to happen somewhere other than this site?

I would think we should all realize by now that everyone is 2v1 at all times. Heh
A couple of tips.
1. I notice you are flashing to early on churn often. When you do that, you are making it easier than it already is to avoid.
2. You have targets inside a ring and in range of earth 4, yet you don’t use it. In that situation, you might as well for the CC and Might. You could have then used magnetic grasp for the burn and aura finishers.
3. Clicking is bad. Don’t do it. I suggest rebinding 6-10 to other keys that are more efficient.
4. If you are still using function keys for attunement switches, add in alt1-4 for them imo.
Other small things, but I don’t want to be overly critical.
SoS’s lead probably won’t last long. I’m just waiting to see when the JQueue freight train comes rollin’ in.
Looks like the JQ coverage freight train has come in. Called it.
I am just happy SOR is getting points period during NA’s off hours. We suffered for so many weeks with no people playing during those hours and it was simply too much of a deficit for our prime time crew to recover from. Literally 2 months of going from ticking between 300-400ppt NA prime time, to spending overnight and all day ticking away at 30.
I am glad our oceanics/euros/SEAs/etc are making a good show of it.
Thanks for coming aboard guys/girls.
Case in point about T1 being about as close at you can be. As of the last posted score update.
85362
82842
76257
9,105 points separating first from third. Why ruin match-ups like that?
I remember back in DAOC where I would get 1 frame every 2 seconds (0.5 FPS) with 500 players within view distance, but at least I could see everything.
I’m guessing this is more related to ANet’s network / bandwidth constraints.
Yeah initially this was true. However, they optimized how they rendered to the client so lower detail models came in first and ‘caught up’ as fast as your computer would allow. This ultimately allowed 200 v 200 fights (example) with playable response time and FPS.
My computer can run circles around the system I used back then. Actually, I think my iPhone could run circles around it too.
Poor game engine design and bad coding is the problem.
Okay the long queues suck but people should get over it and just try to do their best rather than complain.
People are complaining that their whole guild can’t join in, does that mean that your server is only dependent on a number of guilds??? It just shows how weak and divided your server community is. A really GOOD server can do well in wvwvw regardless of random players from different guilds. I played wvwvw a while ago with not even one of my guild mates since they’re in a different borderland but regardless we were able to secure the whole map for our world and that’s only with 2 commanders coordinating with RANDOM players… If your world is really good then unity and coordination is what is needed to be victorious and not be dependent on your guild mates. So get over it and just hope that ANet will solve this long queues.P.S. most of the people during the siege were not even on TS so it really just depends on cooperation and unity… Also i’m from Jade Quarry
Ok smart guy explain this:
1. Why would TC have a queue in a borderland where they had an outmanned buff?
2. Why could I log into the game and queue for the same borderland my guild is playing in and get a pop in 5 minutes, when other people in my guild have been in the queue for 45 minutes?
Answer that, then tell me what you post has to do with the issues that are occurring.
The sad truth is that enemy culling is happening just as much. Not only that, it is far less predictable. We were in a 5 man last night and got ran over by a zerg of 30 or so at a supply camp that none of us saw at range. They were culled all the way until they were standing on top of us.
I don’t see that as truth at all. The first 48 hours is the weekend when people tend to play more. The reality is that the matchup is decided m-f when people are going to work/school/whatever and coverage comes into play more.
T1 North America is extremely close and balanced this week.
It isn’t early American prime time yet. It isn’t even lunch time in the states yet.
Score update please
Pure bunker running mostly P/V/T has its uses in WvWvW. Running small man and to push/disrupt/support in the front line of large fights. There really is no reason to nerf this build despite the people whining about the fact that D/D’s running this can out last and beat most people 1v1. Why? It comes at a balanced tradeoff of hitting like a wet noodle.
Much like bunkers, glass cannon builds do not need nerfs. Why? Any ele running around glass cannon is sacrificing the fact that they will be 2/3 shot by anyone that gets on them for damage.
The balanced builds in the middle are more effective overall in more situations on average than the other two builds. Those too really don’t have a justifiable reason for a nerf.
Anyways, people cry about eles because of vaporing when downed through keep walls and the fact that we are highly mobile with dagger. Unfortunately due to having the lowest health and armor in the game, the mobility is a requirement for survival. Again… fair trade.
Good luck with that. ANET has horrible customer service and communication to its customers. One of the worst gaming companies I have ever seen at it tbh.
Explain to me how a 5 man can be taking a camp and not see a single person for a 50 man zerg that ran us over until they were in the middle of us? No it isn’t better, not even remotely close. Even worse, it is completely unpredictable with how it works. At least before you could count on it working a certain way, not it is just kittened.
Also, running with a small group of less than 10 taking camps… open field, nobody around us, and people blink in and out of view due to culling.
Yeah, not better.
It is unfortunate that ANET decided to do this after most of the matchups corrected themselves already. A rating reset should have been done 3 weeks ago to be honest. Now it seems everything has mostly corrected itself and the last couple of outliers will be resolved in a week or two.
Now, due to lack of thought and reason, the developers want to subject the players to even more weeks of facing population imbalances or PvDoor boredom. For what purpose?
If you do end up resetting the scores, please use some though when you do to prevent weeks of pointless fights for some and boredom for others. Keep the ranking the same and ensure there isn’t a massive shift on reset or shortly after by seeding the initial points correctly.
Please be considerate of your customers and those servers that have been enduring crap for weeks.
Can I have a show of hands of who has
playedsat in the queue a crazy amount of hours this week to help fight in wvwvw??raises hand
Yeah me too. I am hearing about it from my wife. heh
Here’s hoping the scores stay this tight all week. But methinks that won’t be the case.
Screw the scores, just have fun fighting while we have a good match up.
That’s kinda what I meant, but agreed.
I am loving the fights this week so far. Nobody has run away with anything yet and it seems like most of the time coverages are competitive (so far).
As long as we all stay relatively close and equally matched, the score matters little to me.
JQ talks a lot of talk, but doesn’t show for any of it.
It’s fun making fun of Tier 1; Tier 2 was more of a competition IMO
Keep it clean man. I haven’t seen alot of trash talking except for the kid that is angry at Indo.
There is no queue working queue given all the confirmed examples of people being in queue for 45 minutes only to have guild members or people in voip log in and get into the zone in 5 minutes. This is unacceptable as is the silence from ANET regarding the issue. Unacceptable and unprofessional.
Indo was against any alliance and advocated against any sort many times. Maybe you are mixing him up with Menaace who did just what you said…
This is correct sir.
Great three sided fights in SOR BL tonight /salute
you just named the 3 assassin classes. They are all fragile classes which using kiting and trickery to negate damage.
I will admit though that the stealth ability on the mesmer and thief is complete BS. I don’t have a thief but I do play a mesmer and it feels cheap. At least with mistform you know where they are going. Why Anet hasn’t allowed people to knock players out of stealth is mental. At least reward the player for guessing right.
good luck trying to ‘assassinate’ anything on a d/d bunker ele
what? roaming D/D ele are great 1v1. I guess you’re talking about burst damage. They aren’t at the same level as thieves or shatter mesmers but they do ok with their combo.
Bunker eles… Yes, they are good 1v1 because they can out last opponents 1v1 using movement and heals, despite hitting like a wet noodle. In a big fight they can take a beating, but are more a distraction than anything when dancing around in the back lines. They do draw attention from people that actually do damage though.
I love….LOVEEEEE….hearing all about Indo….because he came from JQ until he got his wittle feewings hurt and took his whole guild and left. So yes, Indo knows JQ pretty well, but a lot has changed since he left. Don’t get me wrong…I use to like running around with him and his guild in the early days/weeks after GW2 launch. But that dude takes this GAME wayyyyyy too seriously (not to say we don’t have “commanders” on JQ who sleep deprive themselves thinking they are saving the honor and pride of some mythical land by taking one more tower or supply camp to eek out a win or “near win” for the week only to do it all again after reset. …aka. “get-a-lifers”). Miss you Indo!
Sadly, you only think you know what you are talking about. Amusing though.
I am sorry he hurt your feelings though. No need to be so angry.
Having a blast in this match up. Both fighting SoS again and my old server JQ.
It is a shame we are all getting owned by the queue bug. Pretty sure we all have issues with not being able to get people/commanders/guildies in maps. Poor Indo earlier was in queue for like 45 minutes, I log in, queue and get a pop in 5 minutes.
Yeah its kittening us all.
Why complain about the mobility of the lowest health pool and lowest armor class in the game? Yeah it can be annoying, but they have to be mobile to make up for the fact that they cant face tank.
Yes, bunkers can face tank a bit… but who cares, they do no damage.
