True, harder but not impossible. If they are changed now it would be impossible I would think, short of the those leading quitting the game. There will always be new people coming in the game over the next few years. Should they be denied the ability to acquire ap the same as their predecessors? If a reduction in available ap is made now. Then they certainly will be denied that. And how could the learderboards be considered a level playing field for all players? I’m not trying to start an arguement here you have my respect as for your position on the lb. Just our opinions differ here.

You have some good point Ewon, but I feel, from reading other threads, there are many people on the leaderboard that are pretty high. Now that anet has made more and more available. Those people don’t like it because its more work for them. Instead they would like changes made to accomadate them so they would not be required to put in so much time maintain that position. I feel this is unfair to new people. And also those that wish to climb a bit farther, hoping someone above them has a power outage or misses a few days. If any change like that comes about, just my opinion, but then caps for max amount of daily points overall should be in place.

In some ways it almost sounds like. Now I have the ap. that no one will ever be able to get. I want changes. I am not saying you are like this. Just it appears that way from some other threads.
In some ways its like a very long marathon race. Those in the lead want the finish lined moved a little closer so there is no way they can lose. Just my opinions. I know with ap there is no finish line. But if they change the way the race is done now as far as acquiring them. Then there will be no way they can lose, short of dropping out of the race.

@Ewon, At some point I had to ask myself when is enough, enough. And how long was I willing to continue to position myself on the leader board. A year? 2, 3 7?

Ultimatly thats what it came down to. I had to decide. Is my position on the leaderboard really worth that much time. Competing against people I never knew existed. For something that has no real value except self gratification in a game.
These points I really struggled with.

BTW you position is very impressive to say the least. Much dedication on your part. But you may wish to ask yourself. How much more dedication you are willing to have to maintain. And for how long.

@Ewon, I am pretty much like Vayne and Amandan. When the LB first came out I was around 800, I worked my way up to I think it was 126th.
I realized at that point. To maintain or continue to climb how much time it was going to take. Understand. I do not begrudge those who wish to invest a huge amount of time for this. There are many people that play that way. To each their own. So I am not one to say people have no life.
I am going to answer the questions you put for Vayne.
Yes I have stopped caring about my position. It wasnt easy for me to make that choice. As I am the type of gamer that can really get caught up in that. I think I’m around 500 now. Since I force myself to not play for 2 weeks and now only do enough dailies to get reward. This choice, was again not easy for me to make since I love GW2 but because of the increase in dailies it really made it feel more like a job. Something I had to do. Which I did not like that feeling coming from a game.

I stopped doing dailies because of the amount of time I guess would be the answer to next question.

As far as changes to the LB, no I can’t say I have any. Because my new outlook, (which has made me really start enjoying the game again) is I really don’t care what happens on the LB. Honestly I wasn’t sure if I would be able to continue to play without having the LB driving me. But I am and thankful that I am no longer concerned about it.

Lets be honest there are lots of us players that are really driven and will actually lose sleep on getting that next achievement. Now even with the new living story. I only do enough to get the mini. 3 of the last living stories I didn’t even bother to finish. In the past I would have been up all night and hateful to everyone around me till I got it done.
At one point, I thought, maybe they should put a cap on maximum dailies one can earn like they did with dungeon/entropy. But I don’t see how that would be fair to those who spent all the time doing everything everday. Because eventually others would catch up to them.

Didn’t read all 3 pages, pretty much the first few post. This is more to the op. It seems you may be struggling with deciding on maintaining a position on the leaderboard and having to do all dailies everyday is causing it to seem like a job.

My experiance with that. About a 6 weeks ago, I wakittenting around 120 on leaderboard. I realized at that point. In order for me to go higher or maintain that what the cost of that was going to be. So I forced myself to stop playing for a couple weeks altogether. Wasn’t easy. After I decided to start playing again, I would only do enough dailies to get the laurel. Since that time the living story and all that entails has not been an issue. 3 parts of the living story I havent even bothered to finish.
Choosing to do this, has really made the game more fun. imho, the dailies are fine the way they are. I like being able to log in choose the 5 simple ones and be done, or if I feel like playing more and need something to do. I can work a few more.

I feel if people are concerned about the dailies making it seem like a job. That is 100% a personal choice. Those who have the time and wish to seek the top of the lb should have the options to do so, just like those who do not wish to seek that.
Seven years of gw1 have taught me one thing for sure. If I rush through and get everything done now. A few years from now gw2 will be nothing more than a glorified chat program.

I don’t know Silvermember. I got the impression they were saying that to imply it is not skill to own one but rl money. I can’t speak for everyone of course. But hats off to those who earned through playing the game that owns one. Those who bought anypart of it with rl money, I will just keep my hat on though.

Have to agree with Astral, I did the same thing. Only turned enough in to get done what was needed for ap. Ignored the rest. Had enough to cash in for a few gold. Really doesn’t seem right for those that used them to vote, not to be able to cash them in. I didn’t use them to vote, because I didn’t care which way it went.

I feel if they do not let people cash them in, next time something like this happens people will only do enough to get the ap then horde the rest and not use them as inteneded. Anet may be shooting themself in the foot if they don’t let people exchange them.

Thank you all, Yes it is, I just did a quick one wrote everything down. Did the math, the increase was 8% which is what it was suppose to be. I miscalculated earlier which caused my confusion.

I noticed today several times this happening. Farming events, when I complete the event at the top it says I earned x amount of exp, and the karma reward was 187, but the pop up on the side says 202.
So I kept track and noticed the amount added overall is what is showing at top right, what I am confused about is the popup on the side being different.
Anyone know what/why is going on?

accomplishing something while you are away from keyboard is grounds for a ban. I believe it was said by Gaile, not word for word here. But anything acquired, gained or accomplished while your away from your pc. Has the potential to be banned. I have an email somewhere. I asked about using a mouse clicker to finish thirsty, Her response was, something along the line I said.
I even asked this about setting a skill for auto to kill respawns of ambient for certain weps. She said, in the event someone does do that, she can not guarantee they will not be banned.
Like I said, not word for word from her but pretty much, made me not even consider any kind of auto action for fear of being banned.

Everyone who exceeded the the agent/hobby cap, their numbers were reset to the max the cap would allow. Hence those who had 25k-30k ap at one time after reset were set down to around 6k-7k accordingly.

@Gaile Grey, anytime I see post that are blantly untrue, I feel the need for people to stand up. It’s only the right thing to do.

@Dutch Glad to hear. I as I mentioned in a different thread. I have sent in at least 8-9 tickets over the years. I have never had a problem with support.
Yes I feel mistakes can be made, as had it happen once. But they quickly resolved it.

I have learned, it seems those who jump on a forum and pitch little fits. Are usually those who have violated a rule and feel they can justify it somehow.
For me its pretty black and white. Either you did or did not. If you did. You have no one to blame but yourself, so put on your big girl panties and deal with it. If you did not, Anet has the ability to see and will resolve the issue.

no idea why you got banned, But as far as saying they will say “we can’t help you” I feel this is completly untrue. I have had my account hijacked in GW1, They got it back for me and rolled it back to the day before it was hacked.

Aycee, I don’t want to come off as rude or make accusations towards you. Just want to say, from what I read it appears your account was used in a scam. If this is wrong then certainly there has been a mistake.
If however your account was used in any way at all in a scam. Then it will not be return imo. Even if it was not you. I feel if you could prove you were orbiting the earth in the international space station. They would still say, no.

Having been banned in gw1 for a misunderstanding, I know it happens. Give them time. If it is clearly a misunderstanding they will get it taken care of. I know they did for me.

Like some, since they can be bought. Absolutely not. And since many are gain through luck. Don’t see how having one could possibly imply the person is a good player.

I am like some here. If your friend is willing to scam others with no regard. It says much about his credibility.

Over the past 7-8 years playing gw1/2 I have sent in my share of support. Once for being banned for supposedly selling gold. I asked them to review the situation. As it was me just giving gold to my brother when he started playing. They did, then returned my account. Once had my account stolen, took about 3 weeks. But did get it back.
All in all, I have sent around 9 support tickets over the years. From my experiance they have done everything they could to resolve the issues. Every issue was resolved in a timely manner.
Pretty much, of all the tickets I’ve sent in they have been very helpful. And I have zero complaints concerning any of them.
Do I beleive some people get banned unjustly of course. But I also feel, with reviewing on their part they are able to say with certainty if they made a mistake or not. I feel in this case there is more going on than meets the eye here. If something shaddy happened on your account, then ultimately it is your fault. Even if it wasn’t you. It was your account that commited the violation.
If we can argue that my brother/friend/spouse/friendly neighborhood ghost, commited the violation. We would all be able to get away with just about anything we wished.

Ok, one more time, then I’m gonna have to call it quits on this as there seems to be no resolve between us.

First you say everyone is entitled to their opinions. then you say your opinion is anet made a bad call. and should change it. So is your opinion more valuable than than those who do not think it was a bad call?
For the record, when you start making reference to other games, I honestly just skim over that, imo its comparing apples to oranges. The topic is Guild Wars.

As far as linking all the gw games, its a choice. you can or can not, any and all including gw2 can be linked to the same account. My main gw2 account is linked with same email/ncsoft account as prof/factions/nightfall.
Imo your are really trying to split hairs here to make your argument valid. Funny thing is, when you split a hair, even though its in 2 pieces. its still the same piece of hair.
I would love to see a response on this from anet. In a way I feel we have. But after 8 years of dealing with anet. many, many times, they never post a response but leave their actions as “this is our response” figure it out.

Yes you have clarified it very well, It’s not what anet thinks is fair, its what you think is fair.
You say its not the rewards, its the type of rewards. indicating the work people but in and are rewarded for, should be to your liking. And if not then a grave error has been made.
On one hand you say GW2 is a completely separate game, but on the other you say yes they share the same history.
Maybe I should rephrase and say “entirely different game, absolutely not”

I have 6 gw1 accounts, some I linked and some I did not. For various reasons. The reason I had so many was because of a character called Nicholas, we never knew for the first year what he was going to want. And had to save every junk item in the game. And I had various different collections so need the storage. But I did link some together the same way I linked GW2 to them.

Some people feel you think it is “easy or fast” because you stated they are undeserving of what anet has giving them. as far as the ap. Most people feel you don’t know what your talking about since you haven’t done them.
Yes compared to GW1, GW2 is more advanced.
But as was mentioned, we were informed over and over. that to continue the guild wars product they would have to make a new engine. And because of that they would give us benefits for making the change. People keep saying “completely separate game” for those that say that, they have not played all of GW1, different engine absolutely, different game absolutely not.

Treeline- not everyone waited till the last and until there seemed to be a weekend event at every drop of the hat to get drunk or sweets. Just like ldoa- some got that well before getting titles became a cakewalk.

I feel no amount of trying to reason with you to at least attempt to see the other side will prevail. And honestly the only way you could begin to understand the other side is if you had done the amount of work that is required to get those achievement.

Same applies to to when and if they make the corrections to WvW/PvP ap.
if all of a sudden people log on one day and get 100’s more points “retroactively”

The difference of opinions here is you want any and all ap to only apply to GW2 and only from GW2. Where as those who were loyal to anet feel their loyalty to the Guild Wars “product” in its entirety should have its benefits.
It would appear, anet feel the loyalty to the product as a whole has its benefits.

in response to your “yes and no” in the beginning they had a set amount of ap to be acquired. As far as we knew that was not ever going to change, well it seems everytime we have an update they add new ap that people can choose or not, to add to the lb score, and by doing so alters the state of scores.
Imo the 500 ap was a 2 fold thing. one to reward those who spent the time in the previous additions to guild wars and to also to give others the reason to acquire them through the purchase of those additions of course. Possible even a third possibility is to give the completionist a reason to get them. I do feel by adding the 500 was a way for them to say this is guild wars as a whole, and being loyal to the entire product has its benefits.
Also the ap change in no way gave something to the vets that any and everyone can have. Nor did it give them something that makes them a better player. I could see if they did something to buff the stats of the vets how that would be a game changer.

Regarding your response to why you used ap from WvW, the fault I find with that is you choose to use an achievement that (from what it appears from reading your post) you knew was broken. But you choose anyway to use that one to base your argument on time/value ect when doing the math.
Even though I have said some hateful comments in the past, I do believe if I was in your shoes I would be upset. But having dealt with anet and their shenanigans for so long I’ve learn to roll with the punches.

Well, I got to 126 on lb about 6 weeks ago then realized to stay there or continue to move up would require more time than I was willing to put into it. It was becoming a job and taking the fun out of the game. Now I have no idea where I’m at on the lb. So I forced myself to stop for 2 weeks to drop and make myself not be so obsessive about it. Since then I spend more time just trolling the forums and whatnot. So I don’t mind the arguments so much.
As far as the 500 ap, yes it was a nice surprise. I think what upset me the most was people saying we didn’t deserve them. I’m really neither here nor there with having them though. Just to hear people complain about us getting them was pretty offensive. I had 6 accounts one had 12k hrs the others only had 1-2k hrs ea though. Needed those others because of Nicholas the traveler lol. I went above and beyond the 50/50 in hopes there would be more than what was posted. Because we have all learned. Anet loves to throw curve balls. imo prophecies/faction/nighfall/eotn/gw2 are all so intertwined as a game goes and the skins/titles/ap in gw2 only shows that.

Each stand alone game can be tied together or stand alone. However tied together there was the benefits regarding the hom. Just like GW1and GW2
However, one could buy prophecies and eotn and have the hom. They could not complete the 5050 unless they bought all 3, kinda like you cant get the 500 ap if you don’t own all 4 guild wars games plus expansion.

If that is your argument, then we have to conclude they cannot make any changes to the game that was not mentioned before purchased.

ShiningSquirrel. I completely agree 99.9 % of the negative comments are from those who are completely ignorant as to how the hom works how it tied in with all "4"games. Prophecies/Factions/Nightfall/GW2 saying this part again as some are unable to grasp. Each of those 4 games is a completely different stand alone game.

As I said. If they want to argue about GW2 being a completely separate game. They need to go back to Factions. As it was a completely separate stand alone game. Then to Nightfall.
You are correct, they are titles. I only used the word achievements in GW1 because it seemed many people could not grasp how that worked. Or refused to grasp.

Yes eotn came out 07 but many people already had many of the achievements required to fill the hom. So people have already been working a couple years on an hom they were unaware of.
It wasn’t until eotn came out with the hom then they were able to put them in. Prophecies, factions and nightfall were each stand alone games. eotn was the only expansion. however any achievement gained in any of the 3 stand alone games could be applied to eotn.

One could argue with the same logic being used against the points in gw2, its not fair to those would only bought prophecies and eton. because they could not get all the achievements unless they bought the other 2 “completely” different games. To gain 50/50 did require one to purchase 3 “completely separate” games plus an expansion. To get the 500 points one needs to buy 4 completely separate games plus an expansion. Which the expansion could be applied to any of the 3 completely separate games. Now it can be applied to 4 completely separate games. All from the same company, go figure
So its not fair that some people were able to get 50/50 and others were not able to unless they bought 3 COMPLETELY SEPERATE games. <sarcasm>

I hope they bring him back. imo it would be a good thing for anet. It would encourage people to buy more gems to get more storage. or as many of us did buy more accounts as storage. And it was a fun part of GW1

Volkon, I feel the WvW ap should be adjusted. As they are now they are pretty unfair to those you focus primarily on that part of the game. I don’t do much WvW and if and when they do adjust them. I will not complain. imho it would be the right thing to do. But yeah the kitten will really hit the fan when they do. And people will try to justify their time in pve is more important than WvW and Anet made yet another error.

The problem I see with the math is even the people at the top of the board do not have every possible achievement. Nor does it take every achievement in GW1 to get 50/50 I could be wrong but I think the handful of people that did have every achievement in GW1, there may have been some underhanded things going on. Like botting, dupping. For those who did manage to get all of them, you would need to find out their hours.
When I stopped playing GW1 I had about 12k hours on my main account and was still lacking 3 of the achievements. That is why I question your math.

Big thank you Anet. I have built many kites irl my largest being 27 ft wide. The kite in the game just flat out made my day.

Saelune. Not sure what kind of package deal you got with the trilogy. You will need the Eye of the North expansion if you want to get the GW2 ap. No you wont meet anyone in explore able since you only see people you team up with before you gate.

I’m like most, gw1 was and still is my favorite mmo of all of them. I really like gw2 but that first love is hard to beat. to get 5050 is not easy, if I remember wisdom/lucky/unlucky took me a long time. but if they are making were you gain more points for lucky and unlucky that will really help. And cartography. Not sure I would have finished that one without txtmod. I know some people did and my hat is certainly off to them. If you are in need of items, as been mentioned. a respectful approach will get you along ways.

Yeah, I have to agree with BuD. Since ale is spammable and no longer have to death level. Since they have buffs up a week at a time. I would think a person could get plenty in a third of the time. But it is very easy to do everything with heroes now. If you are going to work the points and want some minis just send me a msg. I have about 15 or so I never used. would just give them to you. I’m inclined to believe a lot of vets may make donations to your cause, since this is not a “I hate vets, its not fair blah blah blah post”

If you feel you can make an army out of pugs that will follow your commands and execute accordingly…. bottom line prove it post it. Otherwise saying its the inability of some commanders to execute these is unwarranted. You may understand military tactics. appears you fail to understand an mmo.
