just a little update. wanted to see if running at 320% would make much difference. I had to stop early so only did events for 1 hr 45 min or little less. Wasn’t able to get all them in. zero exotics, 34 rares So it seems 300%+ is fairly consistent in amounts.
Wish everyone the best and hope for a great update from Anet.
@Disdroid, I’m thankful people buy the rares I sell for 29-32s usually about 40+ day. If someone can get 96 ecto from that great. Just this type of math can also be used in casinos and I don’t frequent those as well. I no longer salvage greens or blues either. Hit 300% mf base some time ago.
(edited by danielrjones.8759)
some things I believe that have really help get that many, for the duration of testing I ran in fairly large zergs. 40+ ppl with zerker guard. Which would of course increase the number of foes to be killed. I would focus primarily on events that would produce such mobs, Arah pre, Grenth, Mel, ect. And I was a tagging fool.
FuriousPop, I would like to encourage to continue to work on MF, I was in the same boat, for the longest time I ran with 120-150% and thought it was just a number that really didn’t mean anything. So didn’t pursue it. I got really bored one day and thought hmm, I wonder if I can pull off maxing it out and if so how long would it take ect. So started working diligently on it. Once I was running about 252-257% base I really notice a significant increase.
Tongku, about the dye, that is exactly what I had thought, maybe somehow it is figured as a rare. I don’t know…..lol
fadeway I used this information. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Magic_Find
Tongku, Thank you very much for your input. I do a lot of farming in general all over and have noticed an increase in bags. Not WvW I can’t handle one more thing to occupy more time. I wasn’t sure if it was just me or the luck.
Maybe it would have been better for me to wait a week and run 357% but since I did it all back to back. Now I’m beginning to wonder if that did affect it somehow.
I can say, I really have not noticed a change in the amount of rares Of course some days are better than others. But it does seem to be fairly consistent.
Now I may get hammered every which way on this comment. But I have noticed dye drops increase by at least double. Could be coincidence, but I just found it odd it started happened when I was hitting 320% or more. And was curious if you or anyone else had noticed anything like that.
to list something to trick others into believing something different is going on than what is behind door number 2 is kinda where I was going with that.
I suppose I could change the word from manipulation to deception for the unsuspecting. If what I mentioned is what someone is doing to get others to sell at a lower price.
Oddly enough the first and only day I got 4 exotics was the first day I buffed to 507% it was pretty much downhill after that.
Beldin, I mentioned 12 each day was from chest. The others were from kills. I didn’t want anyone to think I was trying to pad the numbers. So from kills it would have been 30-32
Numu, 1-4 was the number of those 10 days, 5 days only one a day, 1 days got 2
one day got 3 and one day was 4. With 4 being the most I got.
I have no reason nor desire to pad the numbers. Its not real money just numbers to me.
(edited by danielrjones.8759)
Charak, I think I have to agree. Now I know chance is a big factor which makes it hard to reach a positive conclusion. Just really seemed odd to not notice an increase of at least 5-7% even if somewhat consistent in rares with the bday and mf boosters. Made me pretty suspicious.
(edited by danielrjones.8759)
Been doing as much testing as I could to see how much difference there is.
Saved a lot of mf booster which give 50% and a few bday 100% booster.
This is a very small sample size, so take from it what you wish.
For 20 hours in 2.5 hour increments I would run 357% (300 base 7 ap 20 amulet 30 cookie. For the next 20 hour I would do my best to run the exact same events in the same manner 2.5 hour increments while maintaining the mf +50 booster and bday +100, to maintain 507%
I made certain to be in storage guild so not to have a guild buff nor would I hit a banner to increase mf since I wanted the numbers to be consistent with what I was doing.
Did this over a period of 10 days. On average for the 357% I would consistently get 42-44 rares 1-4 exotics per 2.5 hours.
When running 507%, I found those numbers to be very near the same. With the exception of one day I got 54 rares. But zero exotics.
Keep in mind 12 of these rares each day are the guaranteed from event chest. I remember when mf was around 100-120% I was doing the exact same thing I am doing now, I was avg. 20-25 a day.1
Just my 2 cents, I do believe maxing mf is a good thing. I actually started seeing a difference in drops when base was around 257%, I believe, with a very small increase in drops once it hit 300%
Something else I had noticed, before when I was just piddling around in game fighting whatever just to kill time. I would be nicely surprised when I got a rare drop.
Now I would be more surprised If I didn’t get one.
Hope this helps anyone who is on the fence about mf.
I would follow the math if it was a sure thing. But since its random, and in my case. Luck just doesn’t seem to be with me on that. Since I’ve ended up with a piece of wood that was worth 29s more often than not.
I know statically a set amount of ecto “should” be forthcoming. But statics are not a sure thing.
I know some people seem to be very successful when they salvage. And totally understand why they would.
If the math was a “guarantee” I would certainly follow it.
(edited by danielrjones.8759)
I sell all rares on tp, and not to lowest bidder, just a few copper below lowest seller seems to have worked just fine. I prefer not to salvage the rares I’m of the minds set a rare in the hand is worth more than 2 ecto in the bush. That’s just me though
Oh, there is no doubt in my mind DR exist for farming in general, I was more interested in any data that supports being in a party increases overall damage threshold. Or any data that supports being in a party (all doing their part) increases amount of loot. And likewise I have over 3k hours prefer not so say how much as it just indicates my sad existence.
I just haven’t noticed any difference when in a party, yet I hear that comment almost everyday.
(edited by danielrjones.8759)
Vol, “Parties also matter since the threshold counts the party as a whole.”
Not trying to troll here, but is there data to support that? I rarely am in a party. Been in many a large zerg. Maybe one in 30+ champs I will not receive the bag/box. I have tested with running in a group before and did not notice a difference.
I hear this comment a lot, and was just curious where the data is that supports it.
@Wanze, My comment regarding seeing it everyday was more about the price spreads. I will use totems for example. There was a time I was buying some of those to balance out having full sets of all t6, this was when they were selling for 17s and bids were in for around 14s. I would see one listed for 14.01 buy it and as soon as I would another would appear for 14.01 I would buy it and within 2-3 seconds another would appear for 14.01 Did this at least 15 times in less than 2 minutes. All the while there would be bids of a few hundred at 14s
I see this type of activity on many different items. I suppose its very possible someone could actually list it for 1 copper above bidding prices. What I find odd is many times it will only be one or two available at a time like that. And as soon as they are bought, one or two will appear again.
Not that I am against people doing this at all, whatever blows their skirt up I guess. (I don’t do it) If that is being done with the intention of getting unsuspecting people to just sell to low bidder thinking that’s what they are generally going for, I would call that manipulation.
(edited by danielrjones.8759)
The comment regarding doing research imo is spot on. I cannot even think of how many hours I have spent doing that.
When I invest or sell I always have a reason why I do so. Not just because all of a sudden buy or sell orders have went all crazy. But a reason that would seem logical.
panic buying or selling has been many a traders undoing. And yes imo there is way more market manipulation going on that what many realize. I see it day after day. Sometimes nothing major but so very obvious.
Yeah speculators get the blame a lot, sometimes rightly so. But I know many that always buy when prices are very low and just keep quiet about it and do so in a manner to not draw attention to it until they have whatever supply they want.
Wait until those late to the tp game come rushing in and profit off of them.
Happens all the time, will continue to happen for those who don’t plan ahead.
I would hope the hardcore speculator started buying these items 4-5 month ago. I only bout 40 stacks of ingots and 20 of ore. Back when ore was still in the 20c range. My fear of another gos fiasco may cause me to sell to early.
(edited by danielrjones.8759)
Thank you for confirming that, I only kept track of 3328 salvages and I think it gave about 98,000 points., So it seems once you hit the 30k per point mark it would take roughly 1000 green salvages per point. I have no idea how many it would take for the blues. I was doing those at the first and know it was much lower.
@Fende, my apologizes I called it the wrong thing, yes I was talking about the copper fed matic. for some reason the word meter was in my head.
At first I did every lvl of every item, that was not good. I found items (depending on what they were) from 25-65 to have the best returns.
What I did was look for items that had a chance of 1-2 did a low end of assuming I would get 1.5 avg of that mat per salvage. Check on the current price of that mat on tp deducted the tax. And if it was something I could sell back just to break even I would bid on it. I spent as much time scouring the tp for buys many times looking over a thousand pages of whatever the tp would put in after I did a search. Since the market fluctuates so much, if I suggest to buy one thing and it doesn’t work out. I don’t want someone doggin me over it, so I have refrained from saying what I found to be best to buy. There was a lot of trial and error.
The shear amount of salvages needed was what really caught me off guard.
(edited by danielrjones.8759)
@Vol, well that’s a tricky one, when I started actually working on it, I had 100k points. which is nothing so I just started buying blues and greens at cost by the 100s and spent about 170g, after selling mats back to tp, just for the first million points, realized this was not what I wanted. Then started checking around on other items. So I started playing it a little smarter bid on things I felt had the best return or profitable and actually started to make a profit from it. Not much profit but a little. After about a hundred thousand salvages I started learning what was best to buy.
It takes about 4.2 mil to max so by the time I was done it only cost 141g. Imo that’s pretty cheap, but even better to know it can be maxed for free. And there is no doubt that was the lose I had from the first million points.
It took 9 days with a little over 6 hours a day working tp/salvaging and reselling.
Now I don’t really do much on tp with reg mats so really never paid attention to those prices, what I did find out, the tp prices on general mats swing around more than a good pole dancer.
I did not use ecto. with that in mind. All I can say is huge thank you to Anet for the salvage meter. I can’t imagine doing that many constantly having to buy kits.
I only did greens after the first million points. I did keep track if anyone is interested on avg. amount of points per 1000 salvages. it was about 30.11 per salvage adding all the exotic/rare/master essence ect together.
@Sola, imo it makes a considerable difference. I didn’t think it would at first really. But did temple runs for 2-2.5 hrs with just 357% which is easy to maintain with a cookie, ended up with 44 rares 4 exotics and the exotics were from kills not from chest or bags. First time I actually got to see an exotic chest waiting to be picked up.

I’ve been trying to see how high I can get magic find up to. Did the usual wiki search. But we know wiki can have flaws. I managed to get it to 562% I tried to use the +40% while under boon. But it wouldn’t show up on bar.
I know there are some crazy good guild wars math wizards out there. Was wondering if there is a way to get it any higher?
Right now I have,
MF base 300
AP- 7
cookie 30
bday 100
booster- 50
laurel 30
banner 15
guild boost 10
amulet- 20
562% am I missing something? I just like messing with stuff like this and feel there is something I’m not getting.
It does seem anet is trying to balance supply/demand/cost ect. If we look back there are several different examples they did this on. Some people may not like it, I personally do. It’s very profitable for those who spend time doing their homework.
imo Vol is not trying to jack prices, those who are good at the market knows he doesn’t have to.
@Vol, I did the same with gos back when it was 1.5-2.5s I didn’t get burned though. Sold half when they jumped to 7s a couple months ago and the rest the day before patch. I only had 70 stacks and knew there were other traders that had stockpile much much more. So was afraid to compete with that. Thanks for the input on leather. I have been focusing so much on other parts of the market I didn’t even check on leather. I had not even considered something temporary as a possibility.
A year ago, I seen the conduits were going to be limited and end up being more of a vanity item. I encouraged everyone to buy as many as they could when they were selling for 7-10g
11, wanted one of each prof. then need one in la to do all tp. 2 more for additional storage. all 80 except the tp toon.
most capitalistic and most powerful country in the world. sounds like something is working right.
but OT, I would say middle class is 2k-5k just my 2 cents.
I’m with those who think it will, Why I started buying months ago. If it doesn’t go up. Oh well, its not like its real money. And won’t be the first time I made a bad investment. I have considered Smooth Penguin comment on the laurels as well. But it goes back to what I mentioned earlier, electrum is a metal that was actually used. 40-60% gold depending on the century. ( I think those numbers are right, been awhile) if anet sticks to the recipe it will go up. If they don’t then it wont. just have to wait and see.
@Cranked, I’m with you. I can’t see them making it useless. I’m thinking like others. I do feel they have a plan and will put something that makes it desirable.
Even if they didn’t make it something great to have. We do have ap hunters. A few thousand of those will want it for sure. Then we have title seekers. Who knows how many will want it at as a vanity title. And as we all know very well ap hunters and vanity seekers pay well.
@Behellagh, I fortunately did not invest in quartz. Since I felt it was limited in uses. I prefer not to invest in something that is a preference, but more so in that which people perceive they need. Also with quartz, a huge problem was the error with the gifts. I ended up 450 charged from that. And I wasn’t even going for those.
As far as gold and silver, I was only saying electrum is a real metal, if anet stays true to the materials that it consist of there is a possibility gold and silver will go up.
imho, it really boils down to something Aberrant already said, how desirable will crafting to 500 be?
Imo if its something people will really want, and they stay true to the materials electrum is made of. We could be looking at another silk fiasco.
But anyone that has dealt with Anet and their shenanigans know they can to throw us off from time to time.
going with Vol on this one. Some may also want to google electrum to see its components and when/why it was used. If anet stays true to real electrum, gold has potential for speculators. As we know, Anet is good at throwing a monkey wrench in the works now and then.
(edited by danielrjones.8759)
asuran skill pain inverter for certain
@ Leo, For me this is not so much about the gold sink as much as it is doing what is right. I feel anet should reconsider this. Considering the error was not on your end. Is this their final answer?
@Peetee, I didn’t care about the 1% really, at this point in the game it was just something new to do. tbh, very little grind, more time on tp than normal tho.
lol not sure, looks like I was in a fight and lost.
Yes, I prepared a couple months ahead as much as I could. Was fortunate enough to get it on the second day. I did reskin a few pieces.
@Awe, if my post seem like I said everyone who made a reference to quitting is threatening. That is an error on my part. Reading some post on this and other threads discussing this topic, there are remarks made that are threatening and this cannot be denied.
I’m a 100% for a global cap, seems that suggestion is not as popular as others.
As I mentioned before I really do understand where the ap hunters are coming from. I was an avid hunter until I seen the direction anet was going with adding more and more. It was something I enjoyed doing. I stopped when I realized in order for me to maintain it would require more time than I was willing to spend.
What I find odd, are those who claim anet is holding a proverbial gun to their head, and blame anet for making it difficult on their style of gaming. It is comments like these which make a mockery of a thread which was started to improve the game.
However I do not see how some comments on various threads cannot be viewed as direct threats of “change it to what I want or I’m leaving” imo most businesses, would be happy to see people who exhibit such childish behavior leave. For me threats of any kind have an immediate and opposite reaction.
Some of my post may seem I am opposed to a change, this is completely untrue. Any change that benefits the entire gaming community is always good. I also like the put points in chest idea.
Astralporing, pretty much what I was thinking. Maybe not all, but its certain those who speculated on quartz are very unhappy.
@Malediktus, I agree in part. I would like to think anet doesn’t want to lose their customers. just my opinion, but when someone threatens me, it has an opposite reaction. I don’t always agree with changes anet makes to the game. I feel they believe the changes they make are to better the game for the entire community not a select group. If anet bowed to threats they would ceased to exist.
There are ways to get ones point across through constructive comments. Supplying a solution that is beneficial to all, not just those who are hardcore. stomping feet, holding breath, slamming doors, and threatening to run away. Is why there are so many negative comments on this thread.
@Romek, imo something like that would be nice for hardcore pvpers. Seems pvp does get the short end of the stick more often.
I can’t say I enjoy reading the sufferings of those which have addictive play styles.
However the ones that say " I’m gonna hold my breath and turn blue till I get my way", are funny. For those who threaten to quit, you may want to do some research.
I recall in gw1 various changes they made to the sin in which supposedly 3000 players would or did quit if they didn’t change it back. Know what, they didn’t change it back.
(edited by danielrjones.8759)
When I read some people are only getting 3 hours of sleep because of the daily and others being “forced” to play longer. It is people like that who give mmo in general a bad name to those on the outside.
Sadly anet has made a change that does promote an unhealthy play style, but really its kinda like smoking. Once you start its hard to quit. Is it the tobacco companies fault? Or that of the person who puffs away.
The new daily does give pvp only players more options to gain points. It does hurt the ap hunter. To say one group is more important than the other is a matter of opinion.
I’m all for a change, just one that is fair to all players, not just ap hunters.
if anyone is interested, its ascended heavy with radiant skins added. I know some don’t like the new armor, to each their own.
(edited by danielrjones.8759)
Thank you, I enjoy it. I know everyone has their opinion and to each their own. I can only say this about the set I got. But they really did put a lot of detail into the armor when you zoom in on it while in the game.
@Leo, I posted a pic on the other thread. I did use a transmute stone to get the runes off, and to keep the skin I had, considering the skin I used that may be why I was able to.
@Leo Paul, sure thing. I just the skins from reward chest. Doesn’t show but backback is holographic wings to add to the look I was going for. underarmor dye abyss, top armor celestial
(edited by danielrjones.8759)
if there is a rollback, shouldn’t the rollback apply to those who got charged from gifts, used those charged for cheaper craft leveling.
Seems it would be a great deal of work for anet to do that.
time=money yeah that 30-45 sec a day, i’m sure many profited greatly from.
finished up a heavy set for my female human guard. I didn’t care for the helm, mantle and gloves. so transmuted those. Overall I really like the look, with graphics set at max. I like seeing the detail in the artwork. Thank you anet.
opened 4k ended up with 402 charged Quartz. No idea what I will do with that many. Hope something new is coming in to be able to use them.
edit, it was 5k opened. my mistake
