He did make a post in this thread. Idk y peopel expect specifics, or how hard it is for these guys to give those details. Anytihng they promise -timeline, changes etc, if they cant deliver it immediately causes the community to freak out even more.

but, i will say this. SPVP NEEDS RESOURCES PUT ON IT.
Most effective? Almost certainly shatter.
I personally recommend 5 scholar ruins and 1 divinity for maxing out damage on crit.
Now. As for sigils i recommend on the sword either might stacking on switch to weapon, +5% damage , or lighting strike on critical (air i think), something like that. In the pistol ,and the off hand weapon run superior energy sigil.
Why superior energy? two reasons. 1. you dont have much defense, so being able to dodge alot is valuable.
2. With the right trait set up dodging spawns clones, and you need clones to add to your damage. The advantage here is that dodging ADDS to your damage, giving you more bang for buck with this particular sigil.
Its not universal which trait set you run, but here is a conventional list. 20/20/0/0/30.
Domination: V, vii
dueling: V, x
illusions:vi, vii, xi
Additionally for utilities you want some sort of clone generating stun break, like mirror image or decoy, or even both. Decoy good for escaping cause of stealth also.
Now. The combo , roughly goes as follows. pistol/sword out. 4, 5,dodge,3,3, f1,f3 (as default binds).
So, phantasm dueler, stun, dodge(generates2ndclone). 3,3, summons clone charges you at him, and then f1 for shatter, f3 for daze.
You can use the dodge kinda anywhere, 4,5,3,dodge,3,f1,f2
I recommend praticing on the target dummies in hotm till you get it down. Also this allows you to solo svainir and chieftain easily.

Look, im neither a pessimist nor an opptomist, but i feel some demands, are rediculous. i mean theres alot of ppl with real jobs and pressure from various angles, they cant drop everything and work on pvp. Ppl who post here may have demands or requests that the company simply cant satisfy. simply read this thread to find out the fact that not everyone agrees on the solutions, or heck, even the problems.
Having said that, i feel alot rides on this patch coming out in febuary.
I will recommend something to Johnathan that might increaes casual participation in spvp. Please allow experience and items for the overworld to be earned there. NOT in spvp land itself, where no gear /levels as variables. But if people could advance there toons in spvp, many cassuals would do it more frequently.
I myself dont really care about this, but alot of pvers in my guild and this is the #1 reason most of them dont spvp.
Additionally , since we can respec for free in HOTM, give us a ‘suit’ tab or something in the pvp lockers where we can save an alternative gear/trait utility spec, one click and we are respeced. YOu could give everyone 2 by default, and sell more on the black lion trading house, myb make money. that way everyone can have one active spec and one saved spec, or more than 1 saved spec if they want to pay for it.
REDUCE COST OF PAIDS.
And of course the stuff you already posted. I for one know a ladder will be tough to impliment and may not be a true elo.

The pvp in this is way more balanced than it was in warhammer, rift, or world of warcraft in those games first 6 months.
While Hs spamming is a little annoying, its only a minor concern. Thiefs because of initiative are DESIGNED to be able to use same skills back to back.
If you change anything about that you put a major handicap on the class, and something compensatory would have to be given.
I play a thief sometimes. Mesmers my current main. Look, all they need is to sligthly reduce HS range. Something like that, and thiefs fine. What your proposing, if u dont play thief you may not know, but what ur saying is a major nerf.
I’d make portal ‘only’ mesmer in spvp, and maybe even reduce its cd slightly since thats a significant nerf.
But, i think they are reluctant to duality heart of the mists spvp, from the overworld in terms of skill functions.
IM not sure what to do, i often play a mesmer and when in VOIP teams(vent teamspeak) then portal is just so ridiculsiously useful.
That sounds like an obscure problem. Cause you can spec to match your toon, after doing enough spvp you can even unlock apearence items to match your exotics, so the only difference would be the behind the scences math.
Definately more of a mental block than a real issue there.
I wish people could earn gold/experience doing spvp, even though it applies only to the overworld and not to the SPVP environment.
Defintion of cheap=Op amongst average players.
many abilities are easily countered by experienced and knowledgeable players, but in the realm of hotjoin or low end tourny players these abilities rule.
Idk how much of an issue this is, sometimes if it contributes to detering a casual user base , it can be a bit of an issue.
Also, no offense, thieves are by NO means weak. But they are NOT overpowered. What they are is , like mesmers, annoying to fight.
mesmers, MIGHT be slightly op.
I play main mesmer and thief mainly
so haha , but i can admit that the mesmers ultimate is a TAD op. and portal is very annoying i wish sometimes they made it less effective in tpvp so it wasnt mandatory.

The meta somewhat limits classes. But ive seen Elementalists play roam dps well.
Dagger/pistol isnt uncommon in thiefs.
Mesmers, do overwhelming tend to be shatter, but u could probably play a bunker mesmer if u wanted to.
Guardian really does seem somewhat limited to bunker, unforrunately they dont do good cond damage, and dont roam well. But you COULD play a dps guardian, just wouldnt be ideal.
Trap ranger is usually the way to go.
Engineer can be played power/condition or bunker, all reasonably viable. Though, on the whole this class is perhaps a wee tad bit subpar.
necro tends to be condition but u can make a decent power necro. Ive even seen pretty good bunker necros.
I would say we dont truly know what game balance is, because we dont have an elo to show if certain classses are consistantly way overepresented at the top.
But im going out on a limb to say guardian bunker shows up, but nobody really complains about it, because they dont die to it
The idea is that by elemating gear as a variable, the results expressed reflect skill and tactics, not gear.
I play four toons in spvp, but have only one 80 in the overworld.
so thank goodness it uses ‘fake’ toons.
I often play a mesmer, i think nerfing it to 6 or 8 seconds would be suffcient. It does after all have over a 3 min cd.
The only way you can play as a team in GW2 is tournys, have you tried free tournies?
But, i think its a popular request for more variety in pvp.

one interesting thing about the meta, is it creates a tendency to play a certain way.
Sometimes, just playing outside that area takes people outside there comfort zones and you can get a suprise win. Even if your set up isnt objectively better.
Another thing, is that when a meta gets established, sometimes another setup (ala magic card games), which while not in itself as versatile or useful, counters the current meta hard and therefore becomes playable at the top level. Often while ironically being not ideal at the levels below top.
Also, a highly rated team winning paids isnt unusual. Did you win vs any competition that, had you been on your regular team make up, would have given you trouble?

I think its a bit of mutual causation. Once a sport gets esports attention, that in turn helps it grow even further.
Also, reduce the cost of paid tournies alot. Honeslty teams would Q more if they didnt have to spend soo long farming tickets. And nobodys going ot pay real money to get farmed while they learn. It prevents new teams from forming so hard.
Ranger downed state is a little disconcerting, but idk, not terribly worse than other down states.
EXCEPT. underwater, the issues w there down state there are much more troubling.
You do realize elemenatlists are far more durable than warriors? played correctly anyway.
Sorta same boat, i have 3 or 4 friends who inconsistanly play tournies with me, never get 5 on consistantly, be nice to fill out our ranks.
WE could use 2, maybe three dedicated players who want to reveiw games and take feedkback/pratice duels etc so they can learn to fight against specific classes. that kinda thing.

Ok, i have no problem with that, hs spam isnt a huge deal to most good thieves who rely on backstab anyway.

Seriously a thief should never be able to beat a good elemanatlist in 1on1.
Some classes, notoriously thieves, are woeful at 1on1s vs most classes in tpvp because they spec pure burst, which is very useful for team games. in a 1on1, a very good player will be ready for ur burst combo, dodge or stun break out of it, and then win, or force you to run.
But, you can build thieves to be excellent @ 1on1, regretfully such specs dont seem to be viable in tpvp.
Hey. Just another issue, is that anyone looking to break into tournies is more or less forced to transfer to anvil rock if they are in north america. Heart of the mists on other servers is all but empty.
Not sure what to do about that ( myb the three servers that are currently involved in wvwvw share a heart, but i can see other ppl having issues with that).
Its nearly impossible to find teams outside anvil though.

Thieves seem powerful but not too powerful.
I dont really have much trouble with them to be honest. And youll never win a 1on1 vs a good bunker with the way thieves spec in the meta because its for burst.
The devs posted about this is another forum. At the moment the cd is to stop this bug, until a more permanent solution can be found.
I think even with the recent fix mesmers are still strong class.
Can someone supply for me the regularly tourny build as far as traits/util /weapons go/rotation go.

THEY NEED TO just accept that nobody wants to pay for paids and reduce the cost alot.
If your not a bunker defending a point, probably run. Only rarely will the opportunity to delay or mislead 2 ppl outway dying to them.
1. dodge.
2. roll an elementalist and just laugh.
A thief doing this wil lburn through his initative, if you dodge, once his energy is spent he is done for.
One of the things about mesmer burst, is you can do it every 10 seconds or so.
Correct me if im wrong. But arent necromancers considered more valuble in the current meta than warriors?

reroll raises interesting objection. The fundamental issue from the perspective of someone trying to crack into the paid scene is that the barrier to entry to strong. id like to see something focused specifically on this.
I think there are two kinds of critics.
Those who are passionate about the game and feel a few chnages could really help it become fantastic, but who like it already and therefore are investing the time to critize it rather than quitting.
And those who are just complainers , and probably this isnt the game for them they should just move on.
I dont mind the first kind of critic at all.
Seems theres a little variety in how people play them, thanks for the post kirei and others.
The only universals im seeing is focus on high damage burst, and use shortbow.
