It would be one the best updates they can give the game. We have all these stats and skins available but we realistically can’t go for everything because we don’t have a locker system.

If such an update came out, I would start collecting stats that I deemed useless for my warrior just to have them in the locker. It would be great because suddenly there will be demand for stats other than zerkers just because people want to collect.

The way I see it is that they made this really awesome feature, click-2-change-stats that improves quality of life. But rather than rolling it out to the masses then decided to limit it the 1% of the player base that has legendaries.

SERIOUSLY / People you need to think a little from every qualities tiers LEGENDARY was the only one that had only one stat available (soldier) that pushed everyone to transmute in order to get the stats they wanted. Anet fixed this issue now Legendary is a single skin per weapon set (GS has 3) with a choice in the stats. Every other sets has no issue you craft the combo stat you need.
IT WAS A FIX to the issue that legendaries owners were complaining for ages. Stop to be idiots and craft the combo stats ascended you need and if you want switch feature craft legendary, period.

And the problem you mention is hardly exclusive to legendaries. Skins like Mjolnir and Volcanus come in a useless stat when made in the mystic forge and have to be transmutated into another stat.

And the core issue is this, some players don’t just use one stat and end up having to stock multiple weapon and armour sets. But I’m guessing you don’t have that problem because you bring the same build to PvE as you do in WvW and get carried.

I mean what next? Sigil switching exclusive to legendaries?

Legendaries have become the “goto” weapons if you want ultimate quality of life in terms of flexibility. A player with a legendary has all stats in one whereas a player using ascended gear would need multiple items.

Please Anet, bring a lesser version of stat switching to ascended gear. For example, give each ascended weapon an empty stat list which we can fill up manually.

So then we have legendaries that have access to all stats right off the bat. Then ascended which needs to be manually expanded.

Since I’m probably done with the game. I kind of hope the dev’s start raising the level periodically. Would love to see people spend months grinding level 80 ascended gear then spend another few months grinding level 90 ascended gear!

It’s so sad to see this implementation. They are going in the right direction with legendaries but the complete opposite direction with ascended gear.

Might as well save up for a legendary because I’m not grinding for multiple stats of the same weapon.

Anet, you are single handedly killing the playing many builds and the viability of alts.

You have to keep in mind, when ascended weapons and armour comes out, it isn’t just their stats that will increase. The weapon damage and defence stat will be higher as well.

An ascended greatsword might have a damage range of 1090-1200 on top of the higher stats.

The issue I see is this. Suppose Joe and Dave both play 7 hours a week. Joe plays 1 hour per day whereas Dave plays 7 hours on Sunday. The way the game is, Joe can get all 7 dailies done in the week whereas Dave can only get one daily done for the Sunday he plays.

How you allocate your play time becomes important with respect to daily rewards. This on the surface appeals to casuals but in fact it only caters to a subset of the casuals.

Utility Infusions Completely Usless?

I don’t understand all these similar complaints. The +Karma and +Gold infusions still work as intended. Just because they don’t work as you want them, doesn’t mean you have a valid claim for a refund.

As for the +MF, that is something I’m sure Anet will address, since the whole system of Magic Find is changing.

But how far does it have to go? By that thinking, they could change the game so that the +Gold infusion only works on exactly one mob that drops 1 copper and you could still argue that it is working but just not as players want it so their claims are not valid.

Ideally a feature I would like to see is one where you get the stats and it can be put into a “right-click menu” as someone suggested above. The more stats you collect, the bigger your “right-click menu” will become so it’s a bit like the upcoming Legendary system but lesser in that you need to acquire the stats manually.

So think about it this way, you right-click on your weapon, there are three menu items, one to change skin, one to change stat and another to change rune or sigil. They could even make this feature gem based.

Think as an analogy about dyes. You might buy a dye for 50g and find you regret it, but at least it isn’t a physical item clogging up space in your inventory. Suppose that it was a physical item, you are left with a choice of leaving it or deleting your 50g investment.

The very thing happens with gear, things simply get tedious when you play more and more setups. In practice players usually have a manageable number of sets so the problem doesn’t really show itself but nonetheless, the system should scale. If the game mechanics support so many different combinations, the gearing system should have provisions to complement it.

I think skins are basically the exact same problem in a different context. With many different skins being released with living world updates, players are finding it hard to collect the skins. Maybe they expect us to have the same weapons with different skins littered in our inventory but obviously this is tedious and is why threads have popped up on this issue.

if you’re min/max’ing in GW2, you’re going to have a bad time.

It’s not about min/maxing, it’s more about having the right gear for the right purpose.

A player who likes to PvE and WvW for instance needs at least two sets of gear and that is assuming there is only one style of play for each game mode.

They are already planning to add stat changing flexibility to legendaries. If only they could add the same feature to other parts of gear but with some form of earning system it would be great. You would still have to get the gear but it just means you have an easier time experimenting.

You won’t be able to because sPvP doesn’t give such fine flexibility. Knights stat is also had vitality instead of toughness in sPvP so you are already limited there.

Lets give all players all they want.. Because they are inclined to play the game their way. I WANT 3 LEGENDARIES NAOW.

Anet Why do I have to even play you’r game? Why are you forcing me to play this game?

This attitude, really… I get it for accesories. But armor? Really?

You are not interpreting my thread right, no one is asking for anything right now. I just want flexibility on the things I acquire.

Did you know on my guardian, I have many sets of gear.

1. Soldier’s armour with soldier runes
2. Soldier’s armour with boon duration runes
3. Knight’s armour with soldier runes

1. Soldier trinkets with ruby orbs
2. Ascended celestials

1. Soldier greatsword with sigil of fire
2. Soldier greatsword with sigil or perception
3. Knights greatsword with sigil of accuracy
4. Berserker greatsword with sigil of fire
5. Soldier staff of (endurance on kill)
6. Berserker hammer of fire
7. Knights hammer of perception

Getting tedious? No?

In GW1 we still had gear but it wasn’t nearly as influential as gear in GW2. In GW1 build experimenting largely involved changing your skill bar. Worse comes to worse if your build fails at least your skill bar didn’t take up inventory space.

Here in GW2 it’s different. Want to try a healing build guardian? You need clerics or magi gear.
The build works great! Another set of gear to store in the bags.
The build is crap! Either keep the junk taking up space or salvage the hours you spent getting the gear.

The game is very arcade-like and really lacks depth for players to derive any fun from.

I used to play Minecraft a lot and it made me dream of a WvW game where we could build things and actually fight over meaning resources like gold, wood, stone and food rather than an arbitrary resource called supply.

I dream of servers working together to secure resources, create transport routes to get materials to locations to build massive and sophisticated castles.

The fundamental question that one should ask is, are we suppose to be running diverse builds in the game? If no, why are the so many different stat combinations in the game? If yes, why are we inherently limited by the process of gearing?

The idea that you can roll a guardian, level him up and try out different stat combinations and builds to tackle content sounds nice and to a limited extent it is what we do.

But if I wanted to mix and match berserker, knights and soldiers gear, how does the game help me do this? It doesn’t, because I need to get every single piece for each stat totalling up to 42 pieces of gear not even counting variations on runes, in order to try the combinations.

Now in practice this is stupid because you can use a website like intothemists.com to calculate the stats with different gear. But this raises another question, is it intended for players to externally rather than in game?

Every time I think of a build, I’m reluctant to try it, not because I don’t want to grind the gear but because I need more bank space just to store the gear for that build. It makes more sense to have “one build for all” rather than many different specialised builds because in the latter, you storage will be littered with gear.

This to me is the biggest disincentive. I currently use soldiers armour with berserker trinkets in WvW on my warrior. I have theory that valkyrie armour with cavaliers trinkets will get me more burst damage but I don’t want to try it, why? More storage is needed, unless I plan to salvage my first set. The more builds I want to try, the more storage I need for the gear. And because of this I’m less likely to try.

Just wait a few years when they realise it was a mistake and make it account bound, but by then people would no longer care and the only ones playing are the hardcore.

The thing is many remember how awesome the original Guild Wars was but when you think back there were many poor decisions that killed the game for a lot of players. Things that come to mind, changing Hero’s Ascent to 6 man parties, allowing heroes in HA for nearly a year and introducing Victory or Death which killed the long epic GvG battles.

Guild Wars 2, same old story.

God hope no one gets their account hacked and their character deleted because at least with account bound WXP rank you will still have what you achieved. If it was still character bound, you would have lost months of WXP ranks and have absolutely nothing to show for it.

WXP being account bound would give many players freedom to play alts again.

I’ve suggested improvements many times and hope they do pick up on it.

I would use introduce the PvP equipment creation panel from GW1. From their you can make soulbound items using any combination of skins, stats or runes you have added to your locker.

To add a skin, stat or upgrade into the locker, you use some store item bought with gems.

Potion of Ascalon Mages is frequently used by people in WvW. While it is purely cosmetic, there is a something nice about fighting in a ascalon suit.

I would love to see more potions to act like ascalon mages and it’s potentially a good way to soak up excess crafting material in the economy. For example, you could introduce a Risen potion which uses mithril for example.

Keep in mind that the T3 culturals are rare not exotic, and they only come in one stat as well. More likely than not anyone buying them would also need to buy exotics of the desired stats and also transmutation crystals. More money on top of the already expensive skins.

Anyone remember The Last Pride, War Machine, Esoteric Warriors etc…?

I found this video if anyone wonders what GvG was like in GW1.

Eternum Pariah were running a dual ranger spike and if they spike perfect you only have 0.5 seconds to save the target. The Last Pride run a far more balanced setup and a full team attack would probably have lost them the match because EP would have been able to spike with the full team. EvIL very skilfully splits and manage to strangle EP into their Lord room. The beginning of the golden era of GW1 GvG.

Can we expect a lesser version of the feature to come to ascended items?

For example, say I had an ascended hammer. I buy a store-item which adds this feature to the hammer but I will need to collect each individual stat manually to expand the collection.

So in a nutshell, Legendaries have the feature and access to all stats by default.

Ascended items need to be activated with gems and access to stats is based on what you have collected.

Macros, policies, behavior and obfuscation.

The funny thing is the auto-attack is pretty much like a macro itself. Press it once and it cycles through your 3-skill rotation.

This basically happened to my daily run yesterday but by accident. We finished Maw and was waiting for the daily chest to pop up, my guild member who was the leader left in a rush and completely forgot about the daily chest basically shafting the rest of us.

Things like this really kill the game for me, waste of my time. Things like this should have failsafes.

The benefit of stacking is distributed damage. If I keep AoEing in an area with only 5 people in it, the same 5 people will take the damage. If there was more than 5 people in the area, I still hit 5 people but it won’t be the same 5 each time. So instead of 5 people taking heavy damage, it because many people taking light damage which isn’t life-threatening.

In Guild Wars a build’s performance revolved around its skills’ functionality and commonly the elite as well. Gear mattered much less with the exception of niche builds like invincimonks. In constrast Guild Wars 2 centres much more on gear and stats which I find a shame because it lacks flexibility.

If you try to play different builds in GW2 you are inconvenienced in every way with regard to gearing.

Example 1
I have 4 sets of armour on my guardian
Soldier + Shout runes
Soldier + Boon duration runes
Soldier + Melandru runes
Knight + Shout runes

This isn’t even counting jewellery and weapons. All this needs storage space which I’m struggling with so I can’t afford to try any other setups.

Example 2
I grinding full condition gear for my mesmer which was rendered useless through confusion nerf in WvW. Do I keep a hold of it in hopes of it might become useless later? Do I get rid of it? But what if I get rid of it and later on mesmer is changed so the conditio gear is useful. I can’t even salvage this stuff because it is karma and dungeon gear.

Basically the more you experiment with gear setups, the more of a storage burden you put on yourself. Better off pre-planning a build on a website and acquiring exactly what you need. At least if we had a wardrobe system I would have whatever I experimented with unlocked.

Invisible bags are poor solutions in my opinion. If I had 3 items I need to hide and I have a 20 slot invisible bag then at some point 17 vendor trash will fill up the invisible bag meaning more trouble when selling.

There should be some sort of weapon customising NPC who can flag an item as hidden and unsalvageable for a fee.

Now that the dust crisis has been solved, please do something about lodestones. I find it a shame that weapons like Mjolnir the lightning hammer is 1/3 of the value of the more popular legendaries and it isn’t even a legendary itself!

Ideally I think the game should favour preparation over everything else. For example, in real life if I were to catch the enemy army in a dense forest in drought conditions, I could plan an ambush by burning the forest down and they’re almost certainly be routed or in complete chaos for my smaller numbers to take advantage of.

More tools for commanders

Would it be possible to let commanders have a tool that lets them draw a circle on the ground which only squad members can see or even just flag. This would let them better control the movement of their squad, for example if they want to disengage and regroup then the commander could place a big flag for everyone to see.

I know we can use the mini-map but in the thick of battle it isn’t what players focus on.

Maybe smaller versions of these but coloured.

Conditions should have per-player stacks

This horse has been so viciously beaten it is less than dust at this point.

Technical limitations. The amount of stat tracking the servers would have to do would balloon out of proportion. Not going to happen.

Why is this different in other MMOs? Is it because of the stacking? The only other MMO I played extensively is LOTRO, and each skill had it’s own debuff. I guess they picked stacking instead of 1 per skill but then had to limit the stacking? (just curious)

Follow up question:

When there are bleeds on the target from multiple sources, which player’s damage is being done? Or is it both?

Example:

Player A puts 10 stacks of bleed for 10 seconds with 1000 condition damage. Player B then puts 2 stacks of bleed for 10 seconds with 500 condition damage.

Would Player A’s tick because their condition damage is higher? Or would Player B’s tick because their bleed was triggered last? Or would they both tick? I AM SO CONFUSED haha

Both tick if I remember correctly. If player A’s bleed is 100/tick and player B’s is 50/tick. The enemy will get 150 bleeding damage per tick.

It’s pretty straightforward. These are mathematical principles. They aren’t something you can vote on or say must be wrong because “so and so does things such and such way” or hope that other people agree with you. You can sit there and type until you get carpal tunnel, but the math won’t change.

then can you explain why my time to kill is so much lower on my knights set? mathematically of course….

It’s because the maths outlined deals with expectation, not individual trials.

Since fights can be short, a few crits here and there can shorten it. But if soldiers and knights were to have a dps marathon over a long long time, soldiers will rate higher very slightly going by the numbers from an earlier post.

Gearing needs more flexibility

Example
John wants two set of armour:
Berserker armour of the Scholar
Knights armour of the Scholar

Normal method
John will need to obtain the berserker armour, knights armour and two sets of scholar runes. He will have 12 pieces of gear in his bags.

Gem locker method
John will need to obtain the berserker armour, knights armour but only one set of scholar runes. John pays to have each item put into his character-based locker for 200 gems per piece. Since the gear is in the locker, it no longer takes bag space and John can now switch stats as easy as selecting different dyes.
