Good match all 2nd place in tier 2 is decent for SoR. SoS showed superior organization and coverage, but mostly PRX just carried.
Not impressed with your individual player skill though. Very rarely did I see SoS or IoJ win anywhere they didnt outnumber us. I believe 100% that SoR has more overall player skill than SoS we just not appropriating it well yet. Had SoR more from EPIC and GSCH (with nearly 2000 players between them they could fil ques pretty much 24/7) and had IoJ and SoR not fought so much for no reason SoS would not have such a lead. We have lots of player that work 2nd/3rd shift like me that could make up a strong off hour force.We will now train, consolidate and ready our selves for next week. Getting SoR guilded up and on TS.

For real though, this game could easily have a Pirate map with Water and islands. The possibilities are huge with this game.
Also siege towers and sappers would be super cool.

I would much rather waste someones time because they are a whiny little girl than get a badge off of them. Everytime I see someone log after being downed I chuckle at how stupid they are and how little they value their time.
+1. WvW is so terribly stale atm. Half of these ideas would bring alot more life into the game. Quite sick of having the biggest zerg wins with little to no strategy other than steamroll keep after keep.
If I may ask are you in a server in the bottom half of the tier system?
Since SoR has gone from the 3rd form bottom tier to second tier over the last 3 months I have gotten to see a lot of different tactics and the separation between tiers.
I have noticed that during peak hours when all 3 servers have a queue in middle tiers the lack of tactics and willingness to spend the time/money to upgrade often results in the biggest zerg winning due to many points constantly flipping.
However at the higher tiers I have noticed having too many players in the same zerg is actually quite harmful to your cause because a small 2-5 man team can take supply camps, sentries and npc nodes by themselves and absolutely cripple supply lines. At the higher tiers supply stockpiles are THE most important thing to winning because an upgraded tower can be a force to take but a recently flipped tower melts like butter under a couple of rams/catas.
Knowing what makes the swords appear on the map can also be used tactically to your advantage. A few times I have seen daggers groups ordered to go kill npcs near objective x, so that that swords pop and the main force can stealth attack objective y. I have seen it work more than once.
To be honest I have no idea how to remedy the large number of differences between lower and upper tiers as far as tactics and upgrade usage, but it is not as easy as the recommendations listed here.
Exactly what I was trying to say, glad you can type better than I can. The difference in tactics between the top tier servers (T1, T2, T3) and the lower tiers is staggering. It is a completely different game once your server actually organizes and has VOIP running, scouts scouting and correct force placement.
You need 1 zerg on a map to do the big siege or to counter their sieging zerg. However, if your zerg has too many people you are wasting manpower and are weaker elsewhere.
Most aoe buffs (those that grant boons or have a pulsing effect) are capped to 5.
Stacking does not exploit aoe cap (at least not in the way you are thinking). It exploits ground targeted physical barriers like Wall of Reflection and Sanctuary, traits that reduce the cooldown of these skills and via rotation allow you to have permanent or near permanent uptime provided you have enough guardians in the correct ratio running the correct builds.
The direct counter to any kind of Zerg or Stack is to wait for them to attack a map marker. Arrow carts (especially superior ones in sufficient numbers) can keep a force of any size outside arrow cart range because the damage is huge and doesn’t have a target cap. Ballistas (especially superior ones) are used to force Zergs to spread out and to deter them from storming choke points. You have to fall back to longer range siege (catapults or terbuchets) or stealth rushes (i.e. portal trained golem rush under cover of crossed swords) where the aim is to burn down a wall or gate before it can be adequately defended.
Due to the concentration of force, Zergs overcome all individual weakness by running with lots of other players who cover those weaknesses, rez them up when they go down, grant them benefits from skills they would not otherwise have access to and provide limitless combo opportunities etc.
The price of this is that you need alot of players in the Zerg to make it effective, which means less players spread out across the map. Your information gathering suffers. Your ability to react to simultaneous assaults on multiple objectives becomes limited (you have to choose one or the other or split up).
Zerging is really not a problem. A clever team will exploit the fact that the Zerg’s strength is entirely concentrated in one location. All you need to do is make sure your team can read a map and that your team has effective scouting and communication so you know where the Zerg is and where its going at all times.
A clever team will not try to fight a battle they know they cannot win. They will try to fight multiple battles they know the Zerg cannot be in at the same time. A clever team trades towers/keeps for better ones that can be used against the enemy team later. For instance, Losing West Keep whilst simultaneously attacking Garrison and South West Tower is to me, a good trade as long as you can take and hold either the Tower or the Garrison.
Why? It gives you a location from which you can trebuchet West Keep and deny supply to it without being easily counter sieged. Both South West Tower and Garrison can be counter sieged but you have to split up your forces to hold either the Northern Towers (from which you can safely treb Garrison) or Ruins (from which you can safely treb South West Tower, but only if you can commit enough forces to Ruins to protect the siege without giving up West Keep).
All of these maneuvers are meant to split enemy forces and test their ability to remain coordinated when their Zerg needs to divide down and reform.
This sounds like strategy and as all the experts on these forums know, there is no strategy in WvW. JUST TEH ZERG!
Seriously though, people need to play better instead of crying about mechanics. If ANet made all the changes people cry about on the forums WvW would be 10v10 with no siege on a gigantic map.

Yeah, after steamrolling SoR everytime we are able to field a force of similar (but usually smaller numbers) I must say SoR is not, and will not be a tier one sever. Last evening, I watched IOJ fight both servers with a smaller force and dominate.
All of the chest pounding is laughable as WvW is 100% a numbers game. Bigger server, better time coverage = the I win button.
Does anyone else see a contradiction in this post?
Anet tweaks the way culling works virtually every patch and have been doing so since release, though the notes contain nothing about it. I began playing in September and culling in WvW has only gotten worse with the tweaks made to it since then. Most of my friends agree. I’m skeptical the 15th will really offer a ‘fix,’ as it will be at best an ‘optimization’ as culling is a design problem, not a bug.

Having to put somebody as a permanent guard at a point is boring for them. In Condemned we use to have 1 person at every point we captured on VOIP and 98% of the time they were just sitting there watching movies while they were bored to death.
Swords are there to let players know something is going on, but if there’s a fog of war than it can be anything.
What I think people dont realize is how true this statement is. Even with swords any good guild leaves scouts behind and scouting is BORING. Without swords there is no way at all that random PUGs could hope to compete with the ninja tactics of the better guilds.
You can tell in this thread who is serious in WvW and in a good guild on a competitive server and who just casuals WvW (nothing wrong with this, just dont ask for changes based on casual play).

Its been a great match but its pretty clear that SoS and SoR have a mismatch in oceanic coverage and EU coverage. Typically SoS takes over lots of points oceanic time then loses lots of points during EU times. Still a kittenload of fun during NA primetime.
Overall I just feel bad for IoJ, they are putting up a fight but just dont have the numbers/organization to make it work. Whoever said this fight will be decided by who can leech the most points from IoJ has it totally right, its been hard to take SoR points for any real length of time and I know its been hard for them to keep SoS areas for appreciable time.
Dont lie to yourselves, DAOC had plenty of rendering issues and slideshow gameplay when there were more than 50 people on a screen. I love people and their rose colored glasses.
Whats with the uproar over names? If you clowns want some real pvp then go play sPvP/tPvP and show off your leet skills.

Took 2.5 hours. I am glad there is a challenge in the game like this. You guys who are complaining need to accept that sometimes you can’t do everything in a game.
This is not ANets fault, YOU are the ones who lack the skill to complete the task at hand. I would love to see more content like this in the future, optional SKILL TESTING sections of the game.

OH NO 8pm sunday night! THAT is so hard to attend!
For real, EU people need to kitten about stuff like this. Do you see NA people complaining that its in the middle of the day? 3pm EST is a really awkward time if you planned anything for that Sunday. I would RATHER have it at 8pm when Im just relaxing waiting for work on Monday.
This is in addition to dailies resetting at 8 pm which is crazy annoying.
My personal favorite move is to Epidemic a body someone is trying to rez because you can stack WAY more conditions as a party on a downed player and when their friends come to rez them BOOM 15+ bleed stacks and everyone dies!
I think condition builds would actually be in a good spot but you cant begin to get a real sense of balance when half the necro skills are bugged in some way.
Non-condition builds are just a joke right now, necro power builds are supposed to use the axe or dagger MH, both of which suck for the reasons stated above. I assume we are supposed to be able to life steal tank from looking at the abilities and where they are on the trait line but ANet must be high if they think 25! per hit is going to be meaningful in the face of burst from other classes that can hit for >10k in a few seconds.
Necros and to a lesser extent Rangers are just BAD right now. There is 0 reason to play either class and the meta is essentially a 6 class game.
I was wondering as well if the skritt thief is in the world yet.
I kind of like the random nature of the doors, keeps it interesting.
Can we just get a rematch of this tier next week? Maybe swap CD for another server and have a great 3 way match going? I think this is the closest to a real match I have been in. Its Wednesday and we are still talking about who will win.
Always remember that forums are a minority viewpoint and typically the most negative views get the most voice. A quick look at elections reveals the same trend.

Here I always played games for the Journey and not for the Destination, since its all pixels anyway. I guess I have been deluded this whole time and playing the game is for morons, I should just be pouring money into chests to find a cosmetic item that doesn’t make the actual GAME part of the GAME any better.
People are too entitled anymore and have been brainwashed into thinking that for each second they spend playing a game they should get something tangible in return instead of just enjoying the time they are playing. Real life doesnt always reward you with something tangible, there is a reason people go on vacation.
So much unwarranted entitlement. Grow up guys. I thought the OP was going to talk about something like the event not being fun, or costume brawl. But obviously his fun is dictated by whether or not he can get weapon skins. Which is ridiculous.
Just because you aren’t disappointed by Anet obvious like of grinding now, doesn’t mean the rest of aren’t. Some of use find it fun using/collecting the skins, though not at the high amount of work that they require, unlike how it was with GW1.
Exactly. While I never played GW1, I’ve heard a lot of praise, and it kind of sets the bar for what should happen. I don’t feel entitled to an awesome holiday event, I feel disappointed and let down because the majority of what I find fun feels out of my reach.
I think this sentiment is the real problem. Instead of playing the content and enjoying what they added (which even 1/4th of the way through, is awesome) you are not having “fun” because you cannot get the rarest items in the event? If that is your idea of fun then you are going to have a bad time in life. Do you get mad when other people win the lottery? Do you not find work “fun” if you don’t get a promotion every week?
Its this sense of entitlement that is really disgusting, play the game for fun. Gaming should be for the journey and not for the destination, remember its all just pixels anyway.
So far everyones fun seems to come down to weapons skins and they ignore the rest of the update.
The world looks awesome with the Halloween event and they added a lot to do. Costume brawl is just awesome!

Im dissapointed at the entire event myself . Very kiddish and annoying . Not much there for adults . With the exception that ALL of the events require you to spend real money in some way shape or form ! Cant find candy corn to continue looking for ghosts ,cant get 25 hits due to cash shop costumes being very OP !
I really enjoyed this game , at first . But now ,im starting to realize that the monthly subscription fees from my other games was cheaper. This game is becoming a cash dump and I only had it a month !Putting a VERY bad taste in my mouth for arenanet !
You realize that you dont HAVE to spend anything right? I have yet to put an additional cent into this game beyond original purchase price. EVERYTHING is cosmetic and doesn’t make you any better gameplay wise.
1. You can’t prove people actually opened 200 chests and got nothing, people will say ANYTHING on a forum to make a point.
2. I am sure you will get something by the end of the week for completing the rest of the quest chain.
3. The price will go down towards the end of the event.
4. Lay off the entitlement please.
More people being mad about RNG from the chests. Having bugs in the quests is kind of sucky but they seemed to have fixed that within a few hours.
This patch is HUGE stop staring at the one small part you dont like on the FIRST DAY of the event.
Also I am willing to bet that we will all be getting items from the event come the end of the quest chains.
You all realize that this is NOT the event right? Just a small part of it? Clearly these are meant to be very rare. Why don’t you all take a breath and enjoy the actual event instead of just trying to RNG your way to some skin so you can be the one to sell it and make a boatload of gold.

I do not mind the terrible damage, just make it actually hit people! Seriously it misses at like 75% of the time because they take a single step to the left or right… MOBS can dodge it for crying out loud.
Lots of QQ here even though this has been an awesome match so far. How do these servers fair during the weeknights with population?
I just moved from HoD so kinda clueless.
It is hard to contain my excitement for the Halloween event, let alone some huge content release in November.
This is probably a firewall/proxy/admin issue for everyone that cannot see it. They dont explain it in game but since its essentially a web browser it can get blocked by firewalls even if they rest of the game doesn’t. Try changing your router/firewall settings or connecting straight to the internet through the modem (just to check).
These dungeons are NOT HARD at all. Maybe in a random PUG its hard but for PUG its hard for everything, thats the nature of random groups.
I dont think people understand the loot system in this game, what “better loot” do you all want? I get like a gold+ and 180 tokens from doing a dungeon daily. Its easy money and is pretty fun. All exotics are the SAME STATS, do you want dungeons to drop better gear so you feel better about yourselves?
When people complain about exploits its like they dont play any other game ever. In WoW all people do is try to find any little exploit possible to skip dungeon encounters, In EQ people used to glitch themselves through the doors that you needed keys for all the time.
About the only criticism that makes sense is that too many of the bosses are just tank and spank but I understand that you cannot make every fight unique mechanic wise. Each path has at least one boss thats interesting and thats fine by me.
Also to people who complain about “difficulty progression” you realize every exotic is just a horizontal upgrade right? GW2 loot is mostly about cosmetics so if they made the later dungeons like Arah markedly harder then you would all QQ about how it gives the same gear.
The only people who like K/D stats are people who have not played PvP/Competitive games enough to know how poisonous of a stat it is.
Quick comparison of Heroes of Newerth to DOTA2 will show you this, join random game in HoN with low KD → people harass you, DOTA2 meanwhile does not have this issue because THEY DONT REPORT IT.
Seriously just follow what Valve does, they are smarter than pretty much everyone.
I think you guys need to realize the score MEANS NOTHING. Go out with a guild of people/randoms and just have fun trying to take a single keep, or to defend against terrible odds.
There are far to many variables for entire servers to be balanced. WvW is not balanced, ANet said that right from the start. Its not like the winners get something for “winning” at the end of the week.
WHY IS HOT JOIN 8v8? tPvP pug should get much easier once the new patch introduces paid tournaments and any of the serious teams go there to play (assuming they like competition and not just stomping random pugs).
As everyone here as already stated warriors are great at spvp and bad in tpvp where Guards do the same job only better. Right now I dont understand why every tPvP team isnt 2 Mes, 2 Guard and a Thief.
@Hippocampus, give it up man. I dont think some of the people here know what significant means in the sense you are using it. To explain it you would need to drag lots of these people back through some basic statistics and critical thinking lessons.
As a Necro it hurts me to watch you play with that build man, you are kittening yourself. Unbind backpedal and just strafe while turning the camera, this gives you like twice the survivability against Thieves. Why are you running those two signets?

As a necro your auto attacks are garbage, never let your staff get that garbage hand attack out. Scepter auto is a little better cause of the conditions but only use it when nothing else is up. You should run in with staff up and blee/chill then get on top of them and wep. swap and drop both bleeding AoEs from scepter/dagger. Thats like 15 stacks of bleeding, pop BiP and watch people die.
I do respect you for posting a video though, I am not even sure how to use FRAPS.

This would all be solved with more than a single map type. Instead of nerfing classes or broad strategies they need to make another map where the objective isnt stand on a point longest. Bunkers of course dominate in this map type, they are literally designed to.
Where is cap the flag where a mix of tank/mobility is required? Where is deathmatch where raw damage usually carries the day? Where is push like in Dystopia (some people with mobility have to go and flip switches/defend switches while the tanky classes move a point forward).?

It would be impossible for me to agree with you more. This should be added to the bug list to be honest. Its hard for me to keep my sound on due to how annoying it becomes. What makes it worse is that as a necro you almost ALWAYS have staff equipped in one of the slots due to how much better it is at range than any other weapon.
I think most of you guys are totally high on nostalgia. I bought GW1 at launch got to 20 first week and played for like a month before giving up to go back to DOTA.
GW1 was interesting but pretty crappy at launch. No one had any organization and there was only the HoH if I remember right.
Stop pretending that because after a month and a half this doesnt live up to nostalgia fueled memories of a game that was developed over 6 years IN ADDITION to development before launch (because some of you like to pretend that pre-launch development only counts for this game).
Could this game be better? Yes
Will it get better like GW1 did? Absolutely
SoS is on the way up to Tier 3/2 this week. So it will be fighting other servers who have 24/7 coverage.
Well worth it, my /age is kinda sad considering I have an SO and a fulltime job. Sometimes I wonder how I get that many hours logged in…
You guys yelling about bots are funny. Of course they have a negative impact on the economy, no one is debating that. What you fail to grasp is that you have no provable evidence to back up your claims that its destroying/destroyed the GW2 economy already.
To all those saying one side has logic and one doesn’t, I would like to say that if you are the one with a positive hypothesis (Bots have destroyed the economy) then the burden of PROOF (not speculation) is on YOU. People don’t have to prove that they are NOT destroying the economy, they only need to refute your evidence (or lack therof).
Also bots are almost always good for the average gamer, they make everything except the HIGHEST most EXCLUSIVE items cheaper for everyone. If they didnt do something positive that people liked then they wouldnt exist.
