Why do you think people choose to play MMOs to begin with? It is a reward system for completing quests. People get pleasure/satisfaction from achievements and the loot that comes with it. If this isn’t your deal, then maybe you are playing the wrong kind of video game. I don’t know why you guys are trying to be the white knights and champion defenders of ANET here. You threw money down for this product and PROBABLY spent more money on the gem store. If you don’t care about getting teabagged on the face, then please create a forum thread on why you enjoy it.

Huh and as a power necro roamer, Condi builds are just food while lolburst Thief and Hambow warriors ruin my day. Does that make them OP?

I can eat boon classes as well with a well timed shivers or corrupt boon, does that mean I am OP?

Could it be that some classes in WvW roaming (which as people point out, is not balanced) just straight up beat other classes/specs?

I think all you “condi spam” crybabies should go rolls a condition class and see what it feels like to get face stomped by a well played Warrior or Guard.

Only class I really feel bad for in WvW is Ranger… those dudes get no love at all.

I just dont understand peoples rose tinted glasses of DaoC. That games RvR had tons of problems too, everyone here pretends it was pure gold.

The reason people dont make “hardcore” games like that anymore is they dont sell, no one wants to play a game where months of work is ruined by a few kittens in 20 minutes. I personally thought Shadowbane was the pinnacle of large scale PvP but a game like that just doesn’t sell and for good reason. Note the way PvE doesn’t look like original EQ anymore either.

No, it was more like the fact that you basically stated that the devs suck at their job because they haven’t fixed it yet, and I questioned your ability and knowledge to actually do that in a fair way.

Actually, i’m a dev myself and i can tell you something for sure: Finding the bug origin is quite hard when you got no idea where it is coming from, that’s true. But once you find it, most companies that really cares will ask you hot fixes even if you need to stay the whole night fixing it. Well, that’s how it works in my company and a lot of others, you can’t let a bug so huge, say you know where it is coming from and ask for a whole week delay when you just have some number to change. I dunno if you dev yourself but checking if your (bool) or your (!bool) isnt really hard. GW2 team just do not give enough attention to their customer, as you might notice from the WvW saison 1 rewards still not fixed.

For some reason with spelling and grammar like that I find it hard to believe you are employed anywhere…

I don’t think the class itself is overpowered, anyone that has played it will tell you making a mistake can get you killed easy. But stealth needs to have a counter like everything else in this game or have a cool down before you can stealth again.

To many people want to use a un-counterable mechanic dance around and do their damage or run off when their life gets low and call it skill.

It would be like knock down, daze, or stun didn’t have a counter, there is just some classes and builds that can’t do anything against a well played thief.

This is exactly the problem and why people cry OP. There are some build/classes (power necro for instance) where you cannot kill a thief and this makes people rage. Most of the builds in this game have counters, when the best counter to a thief is another thief then the class is inherently flawed (stealth).

Just look at the other post at the top of the forums currently, the response to what beats certain thief specs is other thieves which is silly since there are 7 other classes. Also its nowhere near as bad in sPvP as it is in WvW. WvW lolburst thieves with full stacks are ACTUALLY OP.

I , along with many others hope to never see Living Story again

It is an absolute waste of resources by anet that could be going into making actual, expansion like content (skills, dungs, you know, meaningful content)

Living story doesn’t add anything to this game besides well… a story… some skins here and there, maybe some back peices lol? nothing else. Period.
People just play the Living Story the first couple days and than leave lol. Its utterly pointless. People who are Achivement point hunters simply play it to get their points and be done with it

It was a nice try by Anet, but it was without a doubt, a failure.
I prefer having actual xpac like content over another year of this dull story, just my opinion, but i know a lot of others share it.
And no, we can’t have both. Anet is not exactly swimming in resource availability to do both Living story + new xpac content

Hopefully Living Story is cutt off…

While I would love new zones/skills/dungeons, I also loved the living story. Normal Xpacks you wait a year to get two months (maximum) of content. Living Story you wait two weeks to get a few days, I like the constant flow much more than the longer waits/playtimes. Diablo 3 released an Xpack in March and I am nearly done playing it and will shelve the game until they release a new Xpack since thats how they do big content.

I tried the might stacking necro build a fair amount over the last couple weeks. In both sPvP and WvW and in both cases it just is not worth the trade offs. While it seems like with really long duration Blood is Power would be awesome, I always found it to be very underwhelming and since its not permanent might you have to reapply right as a fight starts which cuts into DPS time. Personally I think taking Signet of Spite is a much easier way to get extra power.

I think this is one of the crappy carry overs from PvE that we are forced to deal with in PvP, since GW2 seems like a cash grab on the name of its predecessor, and NC Soft didn’t feel like implementing one of the most revolutionary ideas presented in GW1 (separation of balance between PvE and PvP) would be worth it in the end money wise.

We could still have downed states, remove rally… adjust HP amounts, and skills to work better in PvP, while keeping it as is for PvE. IF we had separation. You can cry here all you want but it will NEVER EVER get implemented.

If by “cash grab” you mean far more profitable and with many more players than GW1, then sure its a cash grab.

I got hit about as hard as you possibly could from an itemization/traiting standpoint, and I’m feeling good about my WvW experience so far. I’m just surprised to hear other people say they’re dropping Power because of the huge loss they experienced.

Cogbyrn, I am in total agreement with you. I run essentially the same build you do as a WvW power roamer. Sometimes I do 2/0/6/0/6 and run Staff but basically the same idea as far as equipment goes.

I feel like my damage has gone down a little bit but the extra sigils proccing are great. I also want to test out 2/0/6/0/6 using Runes of Strength and Blood to Power. Maybe throw in Sigil of Strength and use a Warhorn to get lots of crit procs, some crazy Might stacks to be had.

So my WvW experience is largely unchanged, although getting hit by less from thieves makes fighting all but the best of them much much easier.

Also, was running 2/6/0/0/6 with Path of Corruption and it seems really strong as well even with non-optimal stat ratios (too much precision). Path of Corruption is hands down better than any of the other new GM traits and competes favorably for best trait overall.

It isnt a 30% nerf in total damage at all. Plenty of examples in the forum here that its around a 12% nerf if you keep the same critical hit chance.

Old 1000 base dmg x 75% crit chance x 250% crit dmg = 1000 × 0.75 × 2.5 = 1850
New 1000 base dmg x 75% crit chance x 220% crit dmg = 1000 × 0.75 × 2.2 = 1675

1675/1850 × 100 = 88% of the dmg down from 100% of the dmg before.

This is a 12% reduction in dmg and not the 30% that it looks like…

Power Necro Viable?

Well I do stay in DS and spam life blast. I run 10/0/30/0/30 with Runes of the Pack for 1 button perma swiftness. Mostly knight’s gear with a lil zerker, valk and pvt thrown in.

There’s nothing wrong with fighting that way. In fact the best sustain a necro can manage is to simply fight from DS until it runs out, then fight with daggers until DS bar is full again. Rinse and repeat. Typically your heal comes off CD around the same time you get knocked out of DS. So you can cleanse all the condi’s you gathered while in DS and heal the hp you lost during your previous period of time out of DS.

I think this play style works best with high toughness though. It adds value to both your DS regen and Heal skill, as well as any external heals you receive. With the big buff coming to the Death Tree in the near future, I see my build becoming more then just viable.

I run a 10/0/30/0/30 build with zerker armor/weps, cav trinkets and Traveler runes. Staff // Dagger/Focus. I think its a great build, especially for WvW both roaming and in groups. Blood to Power combined with the life blast granting might gives really huge lifeblasts and the 45% boon duration is awesome backed up by a ton of toughness. Great build in my opinion for a powermancer.

The boosts to Death Magic will make this an amazing build I think, not sure if I will use the new GM trait though

I love my power necro but the crit dmg nerf will hit him so hard since you rely so heavily on the ~100% crit rate when in DS. Going to be really sad if I have am forced to play Dire condi spam after this patch.

People are having this same conversation on every MMO currently. It has nothing to do with how good or bad a new MMO coming out is, its the population that likes new and shiny the “MMO Locusts”. They will also leave the new game just as quickly, the same people that pick up and love ESO will leave for Wildstar as soon as they hit max level in ESO. MMO players have this mentality that the grass is always greener when a new game launches. A quick glance at the MMO graveyard should convince people to be very wary of any new MMO that launches, no matter how much hype.

GW2 has already outlasted the initial drop in players that comes when the locusts move on and will continue going strong after ESO launches.

Give it six months and the same people saying how good ESO/Wildstar are now will be complaining about a lack of “endgame”, bad PvP, and whatever else they think the new game offered but really doesn’t. They will also move on to the next MMO (EQL). Just the way the world works.

Wow, remind me to NEVER rile up the RPers in this game. They come to the forums and make it sound like a patch that is a laundry list of changes that PLAYERS have been begging for is all just crap.

Not to offend but RPers and Town Clothes users are (in my estimation) an extremely small fraction of the playerbase. Very vocal but also very small. Plus ANet has changed a lot of those clothes into armor skins, just wait with the rage for now.

Although this might be a very out of place remark but the forums have a lot in common with American politics, everyone’s hovering around the extremes of their believes and ideologies and no one is willing to give a inch of admit they’re wrong. Which makes attempting to prove the other side wrong pointless.

Those that think GW2 is dead, with no end-game will always think that, those that think GW2 is doing fine with plenty of things to do at end game will always think that.

Arguing is futile.

There really is no endgame in GW2.

I can level to 80 then run CoF till my eyes bleed for a couple days and be in full zerker exiotic. Then there is no reason whatsoever to do any other dungeon unless I want the skins.

Then you move onto fractals, do about 300 of them and get the back piece.

Then you spend $50 dollars on the gem store to buy gold to craft up to 500 to make ascended gear, or you spend 500 hours on the jail train in FSG for that cash.

then you are done.

This is terrible progression.

So you want a gear treadmill ala WoW and you came to GW2… why? There are litterally dozens of MMOs out there if you want to feel amazing by increasing your numbers to fight bosses who just increase their numbers.

These “endgame” content arguments always end the same way, “endgame” content that is PvE is interesting until you beat it. Then its just farm status and boring. Go play some PvP if you want engaging content where you cannot just learn a fight once and do it that SAME EXACT way forever.

This patch is really about the china release. NA population has dwindled, we aren’t that important.

Who loves spending tons of money on micro transistion wardrobes? China…

Who will be effected the most by champ train nerfs, repair costs, account bound things, etc… new players who are just starting out… i.e. China…

account bound dyes… announced a month ago for china…

In reality this is just about the chinese release, we are just an afterthought.

Pretty sure that the playerbase has been increasing as of late. WvW on my server went from 0 queues a month ago to having Qs on 3/4 maps every night. I am not on one of the largest servers either.

If you guys think ESO is actually going to have a lasting impact, you have not played the beta for it at all.

People need to start realizing that the only thing happening in this patch is winning and some people win more than others. there are no losers in this patch but because some people didn’t win the jackpot like others they feel like they lost on something. thats it

I think I will just post this to people’s complaints about this patch. There has to be some psychological syndrome that describes this phenomenon. It happens with everything, even if everyone wins as long as someone else has won more there are certain people out there who will feel cheated. You cant change human nature I guess.

The thing is the reason I have bags absolutely crammed with gear is that I swap around for RP. I don’t have 50 exotics, I have 50 things from apprentice boots on up, and if I’m RPing running a shop counter I’m in plainer clothes than if going out to a fancy dinner. I can swap looks just by changing what’s equipped. And I can do it multiple times in a row to show my looks to others or to illustrate changes to my character during a scene.

Do I now have to pay a charge per item for every swap? Or is this a one-time unlock for a charge after which I can change freely to the “bought” looks?

I dont think you understand how this works. ITS THE SAME IT IS NOW. You pay a charge to put a new skin on ANOTHER ITEM THAT HAS STATS. You can have 50 sets of items still, it will just be easier to add THE SAME SKIN to DIFFERENT ITEMS as they will only cost you a CHARGE instead of having to get the ENTIRE SKIN again.

Its really not that complicated.

Customer support will be able to fulfill gem refund requests only for town clothes that become endless tonics. Such requests must be made after the Town Clothes system changes take effect; refund requests cannot be processed prior to the April Feature Build. Customer Support is not able to fulfill requests for refunds other than those related to Town Clothes that become endless tonics. This means that town clothes that become skins are not eligible for a refund.

BUT if you read closer anything sold AS A SINGLE PIECE will become a skin like all of the regular armor. So only the FULL outfits are being changed to be a single skin, all of the individual piece items are going to function BETTER than they do right now.

Well… Anet is going to feel this in the bank account when they have several thousand refund tickets to plow through… as well as the sales drop that I am sure will hit the cosmetic items section of the cash shop.

I think a compromise here could be that the Town clothes could still be the tonics (still a terrible idea), but let us have the option to wear whatever hat we feel like.

It’s good that you are letting us hide pieces like shoulders and gloves and hat, since for some reason you still haven’t learned how to make hats that don’t auto-shave the character’s head lol. Even Lotro managed to do this years ago, and it’s older than GW2.

Highly doubtful, also its seven pages OF THE SAME PEOPLE talking back and forth. This is such a small segment of the playerbase that I doubt they would notice if everyone in it quit today.

There was a time when the dye system was very different and at that time dye unlocks were account based, but we have since changed the dyes system and we really feel that character based is the right way to go and the system we have now is the best one for the game.

Customized dye should be something that denotes your characters progress, like better looking, more elaborate gear. As you spend more time on your character, they grow and gain access to more customization options. If we make dyes account based, this progression will only happen on one character. We wanted character customization to remain tied to the character but we felt that one-time-use dyes discouraged players from customizing as often as they would like, that is how we arrived at the current system.

There are 400 dyes in the game, we do not think of dyes as something that a character should unlock all of, it is not meant to be a collection feature. Each character should have a unique palette and we have made enough colors to make this possible. Dyes come from world drops, rewards, crafting, the Mystic Forge, and the Gem Store and we expect that over the life of a character you will collect a lot of them.

why are you removing character progression? (again) and what you described as the best dye system for the game?

people literally begged you to keep the account bound system when you announced character bound, the time to listen to that feedback was then, during beta before the game launched you told them that character bound was part of your vision for the game, where is that vision now?

This is literally the best post in this thread. Haha, and so truthful. Go watch the manifesto if you want serious design flip-flops. Simple fact being ANET no longer has the resources to develop AAA games so instead we end up with changes to the dye system as “new features”.

So in your opinion its better to make a mistake and then just stick with it forever rather than realize it was a mistake and correct it? ANet realized they were wrong and are correcting it. Do you also demand that when people change the way something works in real life that they also compensate you fully for past purchases? Did you demand Valve give you your money back for TF2 when they made it free to play? I love the way many people on this forum get bent out of shape when something doesnt go 100% their way but when you benefit from a change, like the new wardrobe with a legendary, people are AMAZINGLY ok with it. Lots of growing up to do on these forums for sure.

Think of all the unidentified dyes you are getting as an average value of all the dyes you have purchased. You gain value on the commons/masterworks and lose value on the rare dyes.

This system seems really awesome. You still need multiple armor sets for different stat combinations but that was never something that was going to change. It would literally remove half the reason to do content.

I dont know what world you guys live in but in WvW 10/0/30/0/30 with some spectral skills and Deathly Perception is one of the best small group/solo roaming builds we have as power. The build is already extremely strong, only really losing to perma stealth bullkitten thieves and the jokes PU mesmer build with nearly 100% stealth uptime. Adding this trait to the build will make it amazing. Right now I take death shivers which is interesting but not nearly strong enough. You guys need to realize that necros have other builds besides the brainless terror/dhuumfire condi build.

Balance wishlist from a WvW necro

I think the top of my balance wishlist is for the terrestrial version of DS to have some sort of condition removal/transfer. The underwater version has two of them!

Would be amazing to be able to choose which DS skill you wanted to use for each slot and I dont think it would make you OP and would massively increase DS usefullness to condi builds as they could now transfer conditions with their high condi dmg and duration.

The only other thing on my wishlist is to be able to see my cooldowns when in DS. I understand that the more you play the better you get at “knowing” when skills are up but that is beside the point… why do Necros have to do this when no one else does.

Haha, yeah. Have to sacrifice something for that movement speed. Locust or Traveler’s is a must if running around alone.

I use signet for speed when conditions and traveler’s when I’m power. Tried some solo roaming as power. Not horrible for 1v1s. Good warriors, thieves, and mesmers are difficult. The only people I could beat 1v2 were absolutely horrible.

Conditions with dire is much more forgiving, of course.

I have found this to be exactly correct. Solo roaming power is fun but you cant beat the current meta builds of Mesmer, Thief or Warrior and because they make up nearly all roamers you are going to have a rough time. Dire Condi is indeed much easier and far more forgiving, I hope some of the coming balance passes will make Power Necro more viable solo.

Ignorance is bliss. You can’t SPAM 2 as thief with s/d, and each combo takes 5 init so you will be out within 2-3 back and forth efforts. Spamming 2 with HS may be repeatable 5-6 times but if it misses most times or only does a tiny bit of damage then you’ve wasted ALL your init and are a sitting duck.

You have NO idea. NONE. Go play thief and lose because it’s not a great profession for 1v1 anymore (nerfed to death).

Is that why they are considered either #1 or #2 1v1 profession? Its them or Mesmer and both classes are broken because stealth in this game has no counters.

I have basically given up ever getting a buff to make us more than a punching bag in WvW. We have so little to mitigate CC and our only defense REQUIRES us to get hits on our opponents to gain LF which doesnt happen when CC’d. Basically the second you pop DS you just get chain CC into the ground since you have ZERO stun breaks in DS. WHY CANT WE USE UTILITIES IN DS FFS!!! No other profession has such a complicated mechanic to activate AND none of theirs lock them out of their utilities, AT LEAST LET US SEE OUR CDs WHEN IN SHROUD.

This gets completed fairly often on SoS at least. I see people say something about getting it almost everytime I am in LA. Especially the runs where we get the full 1200 saved.

Successfully duo’d many events with my gf over the course of several attacks. You don’t have to go with the zerg if it ain’t your thing. This event is actually pretty solo/small group friendly.
Furthermore, to reach the highest reward tier (1500 survivors) I strongly suspect that zergs will have to break into relatively small groups(10 or so people?) in order to cover the map and complete everything.

No you are crazy, its 100% zerg like always… the fact that zerging gets you to only 500 survivors is just your imagination. Also the loot is terrible, I didnt get a precursor in the hour I played today.

The tailoring one uses 15 Bolts of Damask while the Medium and Light ones use Elonian Leather and Deldrimor Ingots, so about 300g to 15g difference right there. ANet better fix it or thats kittening stupid.

The tailoring one costs about 300g compared to the 50g for the other two armor classes, just a heads up.
