Ya HGH and Alchemy in general is very good right now. Plus in the current nonsense meta you need to take Elixer S to not die and you really want to take Elixer X because (Toss Elixer X into Elixer X) against a rampaging warrior is just priceless.

Ya there is a skill Q bug with Static Discharge. I think there is also one with Elixer H and B while taking HGH. In each case you press the button to use the skill but it wont fire so you have to mash it and it completely ruins play.

I would love to use SD but you just cannot do it right now.

To me it’s really kittenty of ANet to leave bugs like this in the game for weeks. Its one thing to wait on balancing traits / numbers for a good meta but bug fixing should be priority 1.

That build is what Five Gauge runs and its just for mashing damage in team fights and countering with Toss Elixer X. Engi is just worse 1v1 than the other commonly played classes at the moment and has no way to beat a good Mes/Ele.

Other builds do burn spikes better so people have found counters. Not surprising that Engi suffers from splash hate.

P/P condi is neat to play until you are against evenly skilled players, then you just die.

I tried this build and a Mara build with Elixer S instead of EGun and came to the conclusion that you are a worse d/d Cele Ele in nearly every way.

In addition even with might stacking as Cele you hit Guards/Ele like a wet noodle because they have infinite condi clear.

Against Mesmer/Thief instead of getting 100-0 in a single combo you get dropped to 15-20% of your HP and then have to use heal/dodge while they continue pressuring and get another stealth.

There is literally no build choice anymore. ANet has killed what was the most diverse class I think.

EVERYONE in spvp is taking TK + Elixer S and nearly everyone takes Alch.

The non-Alch traitlines are also poorly designed which leads to everyone picking the exact same set up in those lines.

Engineer is in a terrible spot right now. Both due to external meta pressure of broken Ele/Mes and internal lack of synergy and choice with Traits/Skills.

The pile of salt I have accumulated after this patch is unreal. Engineers saw almost no power gains/losses this patch and yet we SUCK now. I am convinced that there is not a single build for Engineer that can beat an equally skilled player who is on Mesmer/Ele.

I feel like I am constantly running away in fights and its hard to put out pressure, these other classes like Ele/Mes have invulns/evades that let them continue to do damage. All of Engi mechanics require us to stop pressuring and just run away which means our opponents get all the initiative in the fight.

Prepatch Engi could deal a ton of damage whenever you hit someone and the rest of the time you were doing your dodge/block/shrink thing.

On a side note, is anyone NOT running TK + Elixer S????

Great work ANet! Now we only have one viable heal skill again and its the same (HT) as it always was!! Seriously they should just delete the other heal skills if this is what they consider balance. Oh also, great work ANet on letting Mesmers stay exactly the same with this patch, I guess 100-0 in one CC combo from stealth is balanced but healing too much isnt.

So after a week I think its pretty obvious that Engineers are in a bad spot. We got basically nothing from this patch powerlevel wise while everyone else got huge buffs. Being forced into Nades/TK/Elixer S just to survive is not fun at all.

ANet messed up really hard for Engi this patch. I guess its time to move on to another profession for awhile until Engineer gets some love or the broken professions are toned down. Also why has it been a week and there are no major bug fixes or burning nerfs?

No one takes Elixer X and yet every warrior takes Rampage now.

Engineers get the benefit of lower cooldowns while warriors in Rampage get HUGE synergy and like 30% bonus damage AND are tankier than engi.

Tornado is kitten for Ele and kitten for Elixer X as well. Basically if you only got Rampage then Elixer X would be worth taking, as it is now, even fully specced for elixers, its still kitten.

Other builds like SD and bombs are fun but Nades are still far and away our best Kit, aka our best skill.

Sadly this patch didnt change a whole lot for Engineer, we are still stuck taking nades if we want to play optimally.

Its not that Kinetic Battery is bad, its just very clunky to use and its competition for the GM spot in Tools is PERMANENT VIGOR….

Basically if they want you to use this trait they need to buff it massively.

For PvP…

  1. Grenades are still the best kit! Mortar is for support-y fields but grenades still do the most damage by far, whether it be power or condition!
  2. I’ve been taking mortar! The fields are really good for teamfights and 1v1s! Supply Crate is really good too! Elixir X is still garbage!
  3. Flamethrower is still worthless! EGun has been super buffed with the HgH trait! Bomb Kit is strong in 1v1s, but still worthless in team fights! The cleave you eat is much greater than before with the power creep!
  4. The build I’ve been using has been Explosives, Alchemy, Tools! Grenade Kit + HgH Elixir Gun + Tool Kit + Mortar! Rifle, Marauder/Celestial, Hoelbrak, Energy/Battle! I’ve also been using Explosives, Alchemy, Firearms P/P condi with Traveler Runes to make up for the movement speed loss!
  5. Med Kit stinks! You have to cast the throwables then run over them to pick them up! You can easily die in between that! Or a teammate could pick them up! It’s just poopoo!
  6. Healing Turret is still king of Engi Heals! AED is still godawful and you’d still be better off taking Healing Turret over Elixir H even in a dedicated elixir build!
  7. Gadgeteer is terrible! There’s 2 issues with Gadgeteer! First are gadgets themselves! Why would you ever take multiple gadgets over multiple kits! With the way the Engi class is designed, Gadgeteer would have to beef up the power of gadgets exponentially to warrant picking gadgets over kits aka weapon swaps! Maybe the trait could empower all gadgets the more gadgets you have equipped! This prevents a super strong gadget being used in conjunction with kits a la Slick Shoes! The second problem is Gadgeteer competes with Adrenal Implants! Adrenal Implants is essentially permanent irremovable vigor and because of the new 3 trait line restriction, why would you give up permanent irremovable vigor for a booty butt gadget trait!

Also the explosives tree is poorly designed! Say you want to play a condi Bomb Kit build that doesn’t use grenades! Well your tier 1 choices in the Explosives line are bad! Say you want to play a condi grenade build that doesn’t use bombs! Well your tier 2 choices in Explosives are bad!

Thermobaric Detonation is… lol! Cool concept I guess! Not very useful in practice!

Seconded every single word of this post. I usually dont agree with WORLDS FIRST GREATEST ENGI BLAH BLAH but she hit the nail on the head with this whole thing.

Patch has been disappointing for engineers, mostly because we stayed the same power level-wise (outside of burn stacking, which isnt just us) while everyone else got super buffed.

Instead you take tools for a celestial build.. why?

Kinetic Battery. It’s pretty nice being able to double blast a water field to heal myself up and then double blast a poison field to negate burst. It’s also pretty nice being able to throw two Grenade Barrages, especially with how strong it is. It’s literally a new 100nades build, but without Alchemy you’re too squishy to go Berserker/Marauder.

It’s a skillshot, and you really have to re-orient your rotations around having Grenade Barrage ready, but I win most of my 1v1s with that spec—more than I do any other that I’ve tried.

It just feels like everyone’s pretty negative around here about our changes when our loss of vigor came with a lot of gains elsewhere if you spec for it.

You just said you crutch on Grenade Barrage to win, WHICH IS CURRENTLY BUGGED TO DO LITERALLY DOUBLE DAMAGE.

The OP is exactly right about this patch for Engineers, we got very few real buffs and many of our traits have zero synergy with each other outside of their respective traitlines. Look at Necro to see the amount of synergy BETWEEN traitlines they got. The only “good” builds on Engi right now are the bugged and broken Grenade Barrage build and the Burn stacking build. Both of these builds are going to get nerfed 100%, ANet already said they know condi dmg (burning) is too strong and the other build is just a bug.

I was really excited for this patch and some of the ravamps but now I am sad. Mortar kit is cool but clunky, Med kit is still useless because Healing Turret is still a thing, Juggernaut GM trait is kittening useless. About the only cool changes to our skills is EGun getting classified as Elixers and Elixer U getting buffed. To bad Elixers as a build still suck because of their cast times, the only way Elixer builds will EVER EVER be good is if they are instant cast.

Its a bug, thats really easy to test on an Engi. The bug happens anytime you queue a toolbelt skill with a cast time right after using another skill with a cast time.

The players who love to abuse stealth are all cut from the same cloth, in my opinion, they always have an inflated sense of their own skills because of the ease of stealth ganking. The game was pretty balanced for the amount of stealth pre-patch, who at ANet thought it was a good idea to buff stealth AND burst DPS all at once?

I am not sure how you can defend the current Mesmer lockdown/shatter build. Its clearly overpowered and to pretend otherwise is just laughable. That mesmer build, the engi burning build, thief dmg in general, guard burns – I am pretty sure all of these are gonna get nerfed in the near future. I am currently having fun on my engi with cheese burn stacking builds but I wont try and pretend that its not insane OP.

I thought I was going crazy the past couple of days in pvp when my skills wouldn’t work after pressing them. It’s a huge problem for engineer cause of our number of skills and how rapidly we need to use them. Hope they fix this quickly.

Gadgeteer is currently bugged, when you get 5 stacks of the buff it counts the Overcharged skill as a totally different ability, this allows you to double use your gadget skills as they instantly refresh to become the new skill. This interaction also makes Automated Medical Response fail when used with AED because AMR does not recognize the Overcharged AED as the same heal skill.

Automated MEdical Response and Gadgeteer cause AED to totally malfunction. AMR doesnt work AT ALL with AED as well as sometimes activating the skill when its overcharged causes the skill to just whiff and go on cooldown.

My build (the one that I’ve been running for about the last 4 months or so) hasn’t really changed.

What I miss, is the ability to make minor tweaks as situations permit. I used to run in PvE 2,2,0,4,6 ( a hybrid P/P Cele Static Discharge — I know, I know, don’t laugh….it’s fun as hell). In WvW I would switch to 0,6,0,2,6 – but core was the same.

This build is still viable and in fact even more powerful. But there are some traits that are completely useless to me now (Alchemical Tincitures), which was not the case pre-update.

Ha! I ran celestial p/p SD as well. I love it in pvp for watching all the bouncing around that happens.

What are you running with cele P/P?

This might need further testing but I believe that Automated Response doesn’t function with Medkit in any fashion.
Worked with A.E.D and all that but I couldn’t see anything being recharged when hitting the threshold whilst using MedKit, making the trait quite redundant.

AED with Automated Medical Response and Gadgeteer is broken right now. With both traits equipped the AED will never refresh from AMR and will sometimes just fail to work and go on CD when cast with Gadgeteer buff.

Lol i decided to try this and for me its not working at all. There is a bug for some reason that when my AED is overcharged it does nothing and wastes the CD. Its also not resetting from Automated MEdical Response.

Ya its super bugged right now, lots of times its just wastes the AED totally.

This change doesn’t address the real problem with medkit and engineer in general, which is cast times. Engineer is cast time gated class and this does not improve it in any way. The problem with the old medkit is that spending 1 sec to cast a 1100 heal while people are hitting you for 2k+ each second is just worthless. This new kit doesn’t really change that. 3 different kinds of condition removal? That’s way too much focus for way too little effect. The new heal auto is not worthwhile, instead of channeling that you could be attacking and you would be doing far more damage than this is healing for.

The reduction in recharge times of toolbelt skills has similar problems. It’s the cast times that’s the problem. You are attacking someone, then you go and give them breathing room by buffing yourself up with elixirs. Or throwing down bandages. Or removing conditions with elixir gun. With engineer you are either attacking or supporting or healing, but none of those at the same time, which is why this class has terrible (damage/heal/buff) per second output compared to a warrior or an elementalist. That and plain kittenty scaling on a lot of stuff and too much stuff gets ruined by stability.

An ele or warrior just runs train on your kitten with constant attacking. And while they are doing this, they are getting booned up, conditions are getting dropped and they are getting healed. Their utility is instant.

Adding kits like mortar kit or adding other stuff like that is a nifty gimmick, that adds variety to the stuff you can bring. But it doesn’t address the core issue that you cannot even cast all the stuff you have, because of the cast times.
This kit rework and other changes don’t really make engineer that much stronger.

I agree that MedKit isn’t exciting still for the reasons you outlined. Engineer is totally a recharge gated profession and it IS the reason that Elixers are terrible. That aside, to say that other classes are so much better than Engi is kind of jokes. Engi competes just fine with War and Ele in Spvp to the point of maybe being the best class in the current meta. PvE is too easy to have to make distinctions about which class is optimal at this point.

I use FT on live right now in WvW/PvP and take zero of the FT traits cause they are in terrible places or compete with better traits. Granted, the AA on FT is mostly useless but the 2, 3 and 5 skills are super strong. Flame Blast makes for incredible burst on a 6 second CD that you can time the large damage to hit at the end of an opponents dodge roll. Air Blast is a low CD knockback to get some breathing room and Smoke Vent makes safe stomping half the classes in the game possible on Engi without needed Elixer S. Overall FT is a fantastic weapon that people want to camp in but thats just not the design of it.

Congratulations on buying the core game twice and congratulations on supporting idiocy and very bad marketing because Anet has just lost a lot of its loyal customers. And there will be a better deal eventually because when the Gemstore items stop being bought, when the sales from HoT aren’t as high as they expect. Watch the price drop like a falling brick.

Super high burst out of stealth from Thief isn’t fun to fight either, I would guess that more people enter sPvP and get rocked by a Thief and quit than turrets or pets combined force out.

This is an MMO. High level PvP will NEVER EVER happen here. Plenty of people have written as to why but it boils down to it being bad to spectate and buy2play. Please point to a game that is b2p and is very competitive. SC2 is the only one that comes to mind and even that is dying a slow death to the MOBA.

I welcome a new interesting game mode to play against other people. I have no idea why other people QQ all the time, if you want pure competition, DOTA/LoL/CSGO are all out there and totally free. They are not weighed down by having to develop a PvE world or anything else.

There is no source for numbers of new maps. Also new maps is a totally bullkitten metric anyway. What matters is the SIZE of the new lands that are being released, who cares if its one giant map as long as there is enough space and content. People who play MMOs sure do like to nitpick over things.

I keep seeing people talking about WoW expansions adding so many maps and dungeons. People seem to forget the amount of copy paste that went into the expansions as well as how tiny many of those maps really are. Go back and play them sometime, oh and also while you are there note how dead 99% of all maps in WoW currently are.
