I don’t even care about AVTR. I think I’ve killed most of the mesmers in that guild. I care that it’s a completely broken build that dominates small scale fighting more than anything else in the game. There’s a reason there was a thread asking for it to be nerfed with hundreds of replies and no one disagreeing except the mesmers.
Lightning flash is cancelling channeled abilities. I don’t know what specific interaction is doing it, but there’s a chance when flashing something that the ability just disappears and never goes off.

Everyone here is talking about nerfing ele damage so they aren’t as good 1v1, but ele damage has nothing to do with their 1v1 potential. Ele damage already sucks on a single target. I run just about full glass in wvw and spvp/tpvp, and my entire burst combo combined does about 2/3 the damage of a single hundred blades. You can’t just ignore the benefit of downing someone instantly which other classes are able to do just because eles can spread more damage around over time.
Ele is already getting their survivability nerfed a lot next patch. Wait and see if they’re still problematic after that instead of just knee jerk gutting every aspect of the class at once.
This is a great change. One of the worst changes Mythic did with NF was adding fight indicators. Knowledge should come from players, not the map. Also looking forward to this for small scale roaming. Pretty kitten tired of running solo/duo and throwing up swords on the map and getting zerged soon after.
I run d/d in regular dungeons in most situations, but only use staff for fractals. If I were running tankier gear I think d/d would be viable even there, but it’s just so much easier to play from range, and the staff skillset is amazing for that kind of drawn out group fights anyway.
Nice post Folly. I agree with your points overall, though I’m going to speak primarily to your points about communication, community involvement and transparency.
The trick with our communication, is to find a good balance, on multiple levels.
First, we have to be conscious of the balance between how much time we have to be posting on the forums and writing blog posts, with how much time we have to be working on actual development: bug fixes, profession balance, designing new features, implementing new content, etc.
Next it’s important for us to be conscious of the balance between saying too little, leaving people pessimistic about when things are coming out and guessing about how those things will work, and saying too much, harming our ability to later change, postpone or abandon something that we’ve already publicly committed to.
Finally we need to consider the balance between relying on community feedback too heavily, where it’s super time consuming for us to process and leaves us feeling unable to make a change without first asking for a community vote, and relying on community feedback too little, where we might miss some key information that could impact the success of our future releases.
Hopefully we are getting this balance pretty close most of the time, and if not, it’s always something we are working towards improving.

I’m sorry, but no, you are not getting the balance anywhere near close. How can you think that you are communicating effectively when the dev tracker would be almost dead if not for all the support/moderation posts? How can you say it’s fine when there’s a company like Riot where devs post constantly every day and regularly have huge discussions with the player base? How can you say you’re doing well when no one has any idea what you are doing except for the extremely minimal press releases?
Sorry to jump down your throat when you are at least here and trying, but you shouldn’t be looking at the amount of communication the company does and thinking ’Ya, we do a pretty good job." You should be looking at your communication and saying, “Holy crap, this is one of the biggest problems we have and we need to make major improvements.”
I just wanted to say thanks to the mesmer in AXE for saving my life. I was getting zerged down and my air attunement was on cooldown, was going to die without a doubt. But then you showed up and moa’ed me just in time. Thanks.
I don’t get these people acting like a little trash talking would unravel the fabric of society and send the entire world into chaos. Every other game I’ve played has been far more relaxed with their moderation, and somehow the world didn’t end. The forums were still active and enjoyable. The posters didn’t all turn into vicious savages. There is absolutely no need for the strictness of the moderation here.
I’m really disappointed that Maguuma seems to be stuck in t3 pretty solidly now. It means that this matchup is what we’re going to have for the forseeable future, and it doesn’t have the kind of wvw I like. It’s not as bad as it could be, but meh.

you are free to opt out of reading anything on the forums, and can choose to not participate in any of it.

For these so called “hardcore PvPers” (I doubt they are more than trolls – see how they mostly play flavor of the month thieves and D/D eles), calling someone names and saying stuff about their mothers “is not griefing”. Says something about their age.
Apparently we should just opt out (of the official game forums I think it’s what he means) if we don’t like it. Smart. Kinda like a smoker saying “if you don’t want to inhale my smoke just stay away from me”.
How many other large scale MMOs have such a strict “no griefing policy ?” None that I know and I’m thankful for that. It’s our last refuge against the “internet toughs” that get their kicks by anonymously annoying other people. And now they want to turn it into the same cesspool that many other so called “competitive” PvP games have become.

I fully agree with the OP. I certainly participate in the trash talking and would like for my posts to stop getting deleted and to stop getting infractions. I haven’t even seen any real hostility, just competitors spicing things up a bit. There’s absolutely no reason not to allow it. I think Anet wants to keep things ‘casual’ friendly, but that’s unnecessary here because casuals don’t go to forums in the first place. Just being here means you are more into the game than the vast majority of the player base.
Anet doesn’t/hasn’t lock a thread for someone saying Maguuma is awesome and we have used some great strategies.
I had a post deleted and received an infraction for saying Maguuma was the best pvp server. Honest to god, not leaving anything out or making anything up. I think the exact words were “Maguumans are the undisputed pvp champions.” Nothing else in the post. And it got deleted and I got punished because the mod said I was being rude.
This is probably a pointless question, but would anyone like to 1v1 an ele operating somewhere below 100% capacity? I’m currently sitting in ruins on FA, but can move elsewhere if you’re a fan of the whole /bow thing.

There’s actually not a huge amount of d/d eles that regularly play in OG these days, and I don’t believe any run fotm builds. But hey, keep telling yourself whatever makes you feel better about dying.

One thing I’ve learned about fighting Maguuma is that the thread is gonna get locked.
Other variables are less important, they have people on their server (To interested parties, please note that I did not say “Their entire server”, nor did I call out the [O]riginal [G]uild who I see most of these kind of remarks from) who seem to find entertainment in the whole forum-warrior-get-as-many-infractions-as-possible thing. Neither us discouraging the behavior nor mods deleting replies will change that.
It’s funny because most of the time OG has nothing to do with threads getting locked, but people still think it’s because of our posts. This is the first post in this thread from an OG member, but it’s far from the first Maguuman supporting a less carebearish forum atmosphere. That’s why I love Maguuma. It feels like a DAoC community.
Although, that last thread lock was 100% on FA/DB, so we can’t take the credit there.
We fought several times and enjoyed playing with you. You got several kills off me, but I have also farmed some of you guys. My guild focuses on smaller, fights so when I see 5v5 or situations when its 2 of you vs 3 of us or 3v3s, I like those fights, win or lose.
The large zergs are all about fighting large zergs, and thats ok. Our areas are more into being tactical squads and fighting against other tactical squads. Your area is roaming, so continue to roam.

Man, if there’s one thing this matchup has taught me, it’s never try to 1v1 anyone from PRO. No matter how much it looks like they want to 1v1, it’s just bait for the rest of their guild. You’d think I’d stop by now, but I keep trying, but it always ends the same.

This is really incredibly wrong. I’ve been running a duo tonight, just me and a friend. We kept an entire guild with tagalongs busy, ranging from 10-20 people depending on the run, for something like an hour. How many of you for the realmers can honestly say you are contributing so much as to be worth 5-10 of your opponents each? I may not care about the score, I may not actively try to increase it, but to say I’m not doing anything that does increase it is just flat out incorrect.
Quick question does that guild run anything besides thieves and d/d eles? I don’t think I have had a fight with them where I saw anything else.
We have all classes in the guild, but you mostly see the thieves and eles because that fits our playstyle. If I were to ask you what the best duo or small group would be for running in an area with multiple 20-50 man zergs and plenty below that, what would you say?
OG refuses to hang around for a fight that has an opponent with half their numbers. With them its “insta-gank” or run. Just my experiences with them. If I am in a small group of 3 then at least 8 OG will roll through and insta kill cuz they can, mean while their entire BL is being owned by another server but they could care less.
Well, ya. That’s the idea. Kill the 3 man and get out of there before the 30 man that is seconds away gets there to help.
Not that you’ll see us with 8 particularly often. Think we currently have one group of five and my duo running separately, and that’s more than usual for this time.
Really got to hand it to FA. They don’t have much in the way of individual skill, but the sheer size of the zergs they run makes it not even matter. Really tough opponents.
As with everyone else that runs smallman, I’ve toyed with this idea before as well. It’s tempting, it really is. Having solid, consistent competition would be amazing. But there are a lot of downsides as well. Despite the fact that I never zerg or run with commanders, I’ve actually become rather fond of my server. Also, I seriously doubt my guild as a whole would want to do it, and then there’s all the potential problems with the matchup system.
I wish you guys good luck because I think this would be a great thing if it gets going, but I don’t see myself transferring at this point. But if you get enough guilds and it seems to be pretty stable, who knows for the future.

What Elite do you have? Do you remember to use it? I’ve fought a few eles recently that used no elite at all. My elite is the Fiery GreatSword of great justice. Lighting flash with this baby will rock your world (if you have some nice might stacked up, or have zerkers like me). You want to use FGS 3 then teleport back to where you started as you pass your foe. This takes a lot of practice as your character and camera move quite quickly. But if you pull this off you will hit for 2x more damage with the whirl. If you deciede to take the Elemental Elite don’t forget to use it.
Thanks for this tip. I never liked the fiery greatsword before, but now I rather enjoy it. Finally have an elite I want to use.

The thief engaged me in an attack, but then left, I saw you sitting there which I respected, but figured he would want to finish the fight.
Also first fight I won yes, second and third you ran away, 4 and 5 you won, trying to understand the logic of the run away, when I hear so much about OG, i would rather die then run away… I guess us Aussies don’t like to run away.
Thief took a couple swings, realized his build wasn’t going to beat yours, and decided not to bother. I reset two fights so I could figure your build out, and then I proceeded to kill you twice.
That’s now twice today that OG members have tried to kill me and then decided to run…. 1v1. (of course this was after I killed one of their ele’s) Come on OG!!!! currently running around DB with a 3 man group. Lets do this
