We dislike zerglings, but we understand them. We know how they think. Why do I do what I do? I am trying shame people into altering their behavior.
It doesn’t work. I talked so much trash and got so many infractions, and at no point did even a single person change their behavior in response. People play the way they play, and if they aren’t interested in getting good, a bit of trash talk won’t change anything.

Top WXP ranks are going to be like the first people to hit rank12 in DAoC. The people who zerg all day long. Nothing to do with skill, just a big kill me sign because you know they’re bad.
Q.Q out of attunement Q.Q u know me and we roamed together before
im not super roamer but im not terrible either
I didn’t remember your account name, Ho, sorry. You’re a good player, but I’m genuinely surprised you’re gaining rank as fast as you are when I mostly see you running 1-3 people. Maybe you’ve been using that commander tag a lot more since patch?
Maguuma
Trying to decide if I should log on or not. Is there anyone here who thinks they can beat me? If so I’ll go ahead and log on. Otherwise, TV time.

Transfer servers. None of the problems you are having happen on lower tier servers. You can make all the excuses you want for why you shouldn’t have to transfer, but at the end of the day, no one, including Anet, wants the top tier servers to be massively bogged down by excessive populations.
Maguuma
No. Haste was not balanced. There’s a reason it was used so incredibly much. There may be rebalancing needed, but it should be done so those classes feel strong without using haste as a crutch. Utilities should be an option that you can choose to fit your build, not absolute must haves.

@Oozo;
By and large, most consider their perspective of reality is the all-encompassing truth and even go so far as to apply this as a hard rule against the words of others. Most will never, at any point, contemplate an alternative much less walk a few steps in that direction of understanding. We are all inherently limited as parts of the same system. Makes for a lot of room to grow and learn if we are willing.
Somewhere along the line we lost the concept that we all view the same universe through different eyes.
My eyes view your universe as a big pretentious kitten.
Maguuma
Heh, I recognize that guild. Reasonably entertaining video, though.
Maguuma
Passing the torch or passing the buck?
Should I even bother asking if you guys are planning anything for players who don’t like to zerg, or should I just give up and accept zerging as the only playstyle you support?
Maguuma
Fight club was pretty active in terms of all three servers participating. Hopefully that bodes wells for the roaming scene here.
Maguuma
Don’t use a glass cannon gear loadout.
Don’t hate on my glass d/d ele. :p
Maguuma
It sucks but oh well. I’m just glad they made the change. I missed 10 laurels, but if this gets more people into pvp or at least lets me work on progressing in pve while I pvp, it was worth the loss.
Maguuma
This wasn’t just for pvp players. There’s a good chance at least a handful of pve/wvw players will do pvp to get the daily done. Not all, but maybe a few from each server which will be a decent chunk combined in spvp.

Hello T6. I hope to be entertained.

Farewell Mag. I still think you’re the best server in the game, but it was time to leave.

People from low pop servers complain about not getting people, so they’re stagnant in their ranks and match ups. They get new people, increase queues, then complain about getting new people. I think transfers to medium servers is a good idea, since it encourages people who are in T1 who don’t like their server anymore to jump to a lower bracket server that really needs numbers. As for the 1h queue, I’d wait to see how that really changes. You can’t judge the past day for how it will be since lots of people who are normally casual are suddenly getting on a lot to look at the new system. So, before you start proclaiming the death of a server, just give it time, be friendly to those new people, and be glad that you’re getting new forces
I think the problem is that one of the T1 EU servers is considered ‘medium’ despite its large wvw presence. As a result, they’re getting a ton of bandwagoners who, instead of populating lower tier servers, are actually jumping from lower tiers into tier 1.
Maguuma
Christ, this is what happens when the roamers leave. People start actually saying YB is stronger in open field than Mag. Whoever is left, you need to step it up. YB shouldn’t even be mentioned in discussions of open field fighting unless the question is who is the worst, and if people are going so far as to say they’re better than Mag, there’s a serious problem.
Maguuma
Hey all! Just wanted to clarify something for you: racial armors will not be available through WvW. We’ve contacted MMORPG.com so they can correct that information.
Thanks, and sorry for the confusion!
Of course not. People would actually like that, so obviously you wouldn’t want to do it.
Maguuma
Every single one of them was upleveled. This is one of those things you enjoy but don’t brag about publicly.

Couldn’t even tell you the number of times I’ve died to an attack that was launched before I used a teleport skill to get out of range. I’ve even died to melee attacks when 900-1200 range away from the person.
Maguuma
Ya, this drives me nuts. I made a thread about it as well a little while back. It seems like something that shouldn’t be that hard to fix. I mean, how hard is it to make it timeout sooner? It’s just another thing on the long list of kitten anet needs to fix but isn’t as high priority as the really gamebreaking stuff. The pvp in this game would be so great if the pvp team was as large as the pve team. kitten.
Maguuma
Keep laughing at casuals. We’ll see how long it takes spvp to die.
Oh, wait.
Maguuma
God that is awful. The progression is fastest for zergers, the abilities are fully meant for zerging activities, and because I don’t do that stuff, I’m going to permanently have some nub title above my head while the worst zergers are going to get the epic high rank titles. And to top it off, because you get more points for people who die less and points aren’t split up, I’m going to have huge zergs chasing me around for the massive point bonus.
I hate you wvw team. I really, truly hate you.
Maguuma
Anyway, I have to point out something that worries me a lot: rank points in custom will be the same that on hot-join for example?
Because if the answer is affirmative we will have a problem with people farming PvP ranks on their private servers with friends/guildies.I wouldn’t worry about this too much. This is something we’ve already accounted for.
Does that mean you have measures to prevent farming, or you’re just greatly reducing the glory gained in customs?
Also, are you going to give an option to turn off points gained from circles?
Maguuma
I think the whole “we tried deathmatch and it just wasn’t fun” thing is bullkitten. I switch between wvw and spvp. When I’m doing wvw, all I do is roam and look for fights. No one stands around not wanting to fight. People love to fight, and the fights are exciting and intense. If they tried an arena type mode and it didn’t work, there was something wrong with their game mode, not the actual gameplay.
Maguuma
While they’re at it, maybe they could make it so ranger pets don’t follow you across the entire map and keep you in combat forever.
Maguuma
So true. I really can’t understand how they figured the game modes that worked so well in GW1 would be unusable in GW2 and the only viable game mode would be one that I virtually never hear anything good about. I just want to fight players; I don’t know why that’s so hard for Anet to accommodate.
Maguuma
There’s nothing to achieve in wvw unless you care about making a meaningless score go up every week. The progression is just going to be for zergers; stuff like carrying more siege. Just run around killing kitten. Much more fun. Technically you can get geared from solely wvw, but it will take you a very, very long time to get a full suit like that.
Maguuma
Anyway, this “L2P” stuff is cute, but thats not the point of this thread.
The “point” of this thread is apparently to incessantly whine about necros, ignoring everything that makes them amazing, and disregarding anyone whose opinion differs from your own. What exactly were you hoping to accomplish here?
Maguuma
Misconceptions about this thread:
The title indicates it will be an unbiased and informative thread about necros.
-It isn’t.

Are you really kittening someone out for making a joke? Spvp may be dying, but we aren’t at the funeral yet.

This is just an obviously unbalanced hotjoin, and not something that happens every game by any means, but the build is definitely good. I’m not saying it’s going to be the next high level tpvp fotm and everyone should start running it immediately, but to say it’s not viable or even bad is just silly. Just because something isn’t the strongest possible doesn’t mean it’s trash.
Maguuma
I think people are upset to the degree they are because of the obvious disparity in resource allocation. It’s hard to say ‘well they’re working really hard just give it time’ when the pvp/wvw departments are so obviously neglected in favor of pve. I think most people on this part of the forum came into the game expecting to be treated as an equal part of the playerbase, and that isn’t happening.
Personally, I think this game has a ton of potential. The combat system is the most enjoyable I’ve played since DAoC. However, I get extremely frustrated with all the things wrong with pvp/wvw which don’t get addressed. So much that is just called “good enough” and put on the back burner. So many things that need to be fixed which seem like they’d only take a few minutes each, yet aren’t priorities. Meanwhile, pve gets constant updates, huge content additions, lots of bug fixes, BLC items, etc.
I can tell quite clearly that the pvp devs are passionate about the game and want to make it really great, but the company as a whole really doesn’t care about the pvp, and that kitten es me off.

I like the zergers talking about important, meaningful contributions to wvw to accomplish real goals. And what are they accomplishing? Making a meaningless number that resets every week go up. Keep up the good work guys.
Maguuma
In spvp, confusion is decent but not amazing, making you decide if doing something is worth taking a decent chunk of damage. In wvw, confusion is the most overpowered ability in the game. For those who don’t know, confusion in wvw does 2x the damage it does in spvp, not including gear/food differences.
In spvp, you choose between doing nothing or doing something and being punished for it. In wvw, you choose between doing nothing or killing yourself almost instantly. The wvw damage severely needs to be lowered down to spvp levels, but it won’t be because anet insists on wvw using pve balance, and anet prioritizes pve over wvw, and they want confusion to be useful in pve.
Maguuma
March was always supposed to be the WvW patch, not spvp. They may bundle some pvp changes with it, but I wouldn’t count on anything groundbreaking.
Maguuma
I don’t care about grand scale wvw and I never do siege, but I’m going to chime in because there’s a real misconception among the people defending this.
People keep saying it’s good because a small number of people should have the ability to defeat a large number. That’s absolutely true. A small force should be able to kill as many people at once as their skill allows without artificial limitations like the aoe cap. But that’s the rub, skill.
What skill is required to do this? How good do you have to be to select the right trait? How much practice does it take to be able to aim an arrow cart at a breach? There’s no skill involved in this.
This bug is the opposite of the aoe cap. It’s artificially giving smaller numbers a non skill based advantage over larger forces. That isn’t right, and it needs to be fixed, just the same as the aoe cap. Winning or losing should be based on skill, not artificial advantages.
Maguuma
I don’t think it’s that bad, but personally I always run matched daggers, and I think it’d take me years to gather the stuff for a single legendary, so there’s no way in hell I’m getting two.
Maguuma
If Mag goes up, YB comes down. You think that will be better?
Maguuma
What is a rank limit going to do? Hotjoin doesn’t teach you anything at all about tournament play, and rank10 is hardly a lot of experience. The problem is matchmaking, not the players.
Maguuma
What does it matter? You won’t be playing it until the patch goes live anyway, and it’s not like Anet ever acts on feedback.
Maguuma
It really is funny how many “top players” think 99.5% of the playerbase should be ignored and neglected in favor of their .5%.
Maguuma
I think necs are an extremely solid class, they just don’t function so well by themselves. In a team they’re amazing, solo they are decent but not on par with the solo superstars.
Maguuma
None of those three servers have much in the way of roamers.
Maguuma
I do have to admit that I am new to this game so you are right dreztina, but I am getting better. Still wish there was some way that they could put rank 10 and below with other rank 10s and below instead of rank 20s.
Ya, I know what you mean. I started when the game was pretty new so it wasn’t as bad for me, but when I do hotjoins now, the games are pretty much filled with rank 20-50s and the few sub 10s generally get slaughtered. There’s really nothing you can do about it but grind through it until you can hold your own.
Maguuma
Since my last post in the thread I’ve been running p/p with s/d swap in spvp and it’s actually pretty good. I’m usually top score on my team, often the game as a whole. I don’t feel as strong as I do on my ele, but this is essentially my first time playing a thief, so I just don’t have the experience to really dominate. But it’s strong and has a lot of potential. I think once I master the general thief play this build will be on par with any other thief build.
Maguuma
Back when I used to play tPvP, my team would almost always win out on any fair fights, 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and still lose the match because of map control. I agree, we were the worse team and got outplayed, but why make such a fantastic PvP engine, only for the ‘endgame’ to completely bypass all the great things about it and become about map movement speed and overpowering/quickly outnumbering with burst due to bunker builds?
Had the same experience. I’m a wvw’er and my guild mostly just roams wvw, but a while back there was an especially bad stretch of wvw so we decided to do some tpvp. We won our fair share of games, but the top tpvp teams did beat us soundly. But it wasn’t because we were getting destroyed in the 1v1s/2v2s, it was because the other teams had such good map control that they never had to do an even numbered fight. I’m not saying they did anything wrong, but as someone who enjoys fighting and not the lame game mode, that isn’t very satisfying to deal with, even if the level of competition was refreshing.
I prefer playing hotjoin because it’s basically TDM. There are conquest points, but no one really cares about them. It’s more about actually fighting each other and the circles just exist as a way to get some points here and there. I also like that I can go in with one of my unusual builds (as all my builds are) and still be one of if not the strongest in the match.
Also, from what I’ve seen recently, the level of competition in hotjoins has gone up significantly. It used to be hotjoins were filled with low ranks, but these days, the average rank in most matches is around 25. I see tons of 30+, a fair number of 40+, and even a handful of 50+. Rank of course doesn’t correlate directly to skill, but it’s definitely not the same as the last time I played spvp. This is actually probably a bad thing because it means fewer new players are playing/sticking with spvp, but oh well.
Maguuma
I sincerely doubt this game will ever be an esport. There are just countless problems with it. Even if they do deliver on all the missing features, there are hundreds if not thousands of bugs which Anet doesn’t seem to care about fixing. Can’t have an esport when so many fights come down to who has worse luck with the bug RNG. Then there’s the whole problem of the game being horrible to watch because of the completely overdone effects, difficult to follow action, and questionable game mode.
Maybe years down the road Anet will get their stuff together enough to have a shot, but with the speed they move, just about everyone playing now will have quit long before this game even has a chance at being an esport.
