I don’t know if it’s just my matchup, but wvw maps have been crashing multiple times per day for the last few days. It’s really getting frustrating, especially since it seems to always happen as soon as a fight starts.

To leave extreme defense for extreme offense really doesn’t say anything about balance of a profession, between 2 glass cannon , normally the quickest player win..the one who one-shot the other first…

When I bought this game, I didn’t sign for a free-to play FPS ty very much, I have always been running balanced builds. never used extreme bunker builds and played few times extreme offense build in sPvP, I’d rather have a game with balanced gameplay than people one-shooting themself left and right

All I was saying is that damage ele is perfectly good and you don’t need to go full bunker to be viable. I have no problem with balanced builds; the problem is that the balanced build is in fact not balanced.

I am currently running around in wvw with ~67% crit with fury and 91% crit damage which I’m hoping to get up to 100% with ascended gear. I run a similar setup in tpvp, except with lower numbers due to gear differences of course. I am far from the only ele running glass.

One thing I’m looking forward to with this patch is the fact that a lot of people who believe eles can only survive if built full tank are going to be forced to either actually learn the class or move on to another. Should really cut down on the fotmness.

I don’t consider this a gamebreaking issue, and certainly won’t play that kitten looking race to take advantage of it, but there is a disparity there. I have yet to see any teams rolling around with five Asura though, so it can’t be THAT big of a deal.

I’m expecting a nerf to our bunkerage since people can’t seem to over come the FOTM eles in pvp (most are easy to beat with weaker / lesser build lol).

I do hope for some buffs to our damage though, miss my rediculous burst S/D build so much.

Ele really doesn’t need a damage increase. I’m actually somewhat worried about them nerfing our damage as well as our bunker.

It is weird that one server would have more than its share of hackers, but it seems like DB somehow does. Just watched an ele doing some pretty impressive speedhacking. Sadly, by the time I realized it wasn’t lag he was far out of target range.

People just haven’t tried to deviate from this new tried and true survivability build, that’s all. It’s not that there aren’t other builds out there or that other builds are bad, it’s that the people that post on forums latch onto one particular build and never give it up, and fight to the death to defend it.

I’m 100% certain that if someone decided to spend some time ingame playing with various traits and came up with a new hybrid spec with balance between damage and survival, then posted it on here or a fan site, suddenly everyone will jump ship from this bunker build that’s apparently going to be nerfed so badly the class will no longer be playable with it (which is utterly ridiculous, btw) and praise the new hybrid as the new “only” way to play elementalists.

Uh, the hybrid d/d isn’t exactly unknown. Every ele that I know runs hybrid. It’s every bit as ridiculous as the bunker build, maybe even more so in wvw. Personally, I really can’t wait for these nerfs, and I hope they hit hard.

With my build, I give myself at least a fair shot against any other class in the game, even when fighting the best people I know at those classes. But against other d/d eles? I haven’t won a 1v1 against anything but the worst players since I moved away from hybrid. It doesn’t matter how much I dodge their spells. It doesn’t matter how much I land mine. They always win in the end just because the level of defense possible from even a hybrid build is completely out of whack. Even incredibly mediocre players are able to fight at a top level because the current popular d/d ele builds are so dumb that the worst case scenario is a stalemate.

Quite frankly, if you don’t think the triple cantrip bunker/hybrid builds need to be nerfed, you are either a pve’er, or you’re kidding yourself because you don’t want to believe the build you play is op.

Was roaming the other night, no big groups around, nothing in view, then pop, two people show up right in front of me. Two people. Ten years ago DAoC had fights with a couple hundred people there at once. Today, GW2 can’t handle showing two people before they’re almost on top of you. I don’t know what went wrong with this game, but it’s pretty impressively bad.

I recently switched to a 30 air build, and I’m running the 20% more damage to knocked down/stunned foes. My question is, how long does the knockdown last in the animation? Doing a standard updraft – burning speed – fire grab, the grab lands when they’re about halfway up. Does the trait apply only when they’re fully flat, or until they’re fully standing again? It feels like it’s working when they’re in the process of standing up, but I wanted to be sure.

AoN is the only guild is this matchup that I respect. I know first hand they have some amazing players and great people. No reason to start anything with them. I’d love to have a solid 5v5, but our guilds tend to run at different times and at different places. They turned down the duel, but they did it for the same reasons that I hate dueling. Dueling isn’t remotely representative of real combat. I only go to the duels because it’s often the only time you get to run into decent players, even if it’s a less than optimal setting.

I think the biggest thing I’m going to take away from this matchup is a greater appreciation for ironic guild names.

I always share my builds freely, just like in DAoC. I have no problem fighting people whose characters are as good as mine. That’s why we’re here, isn’t it?

Solo roaming doesn’t really achieve much as far as the WvW scoreboard is concerned (unless you’re scouting for your own zergballs + killing dolyaks) so I don’t get why competitive players would do it. High level competition in WvW consists of smashing doors while the opposition is at work.

Hopefully we can get a regular fight club going this week for some decent fights.

They do it, or at least should, because roaming is a far more interesting form of pvp than stale arena style battles which have zero unknown factors. In spvp, you know the exact where, what, when, who, how, and why before the timer even finishes counting down. In roaming, you don’t know any of that. Every fight is different. Takes a lot longer for roaming to get boring than spvp.

And I’ve given up on duels. It’s always the same story. 20+ Mag and two or three people from the other servers.

You do realize mesmers deal almost no damage (~1k) for 3-4 seconds while they apply confusion to you, right? They’re an easy kill during this time period. Also, I have never seen confusion reach 4-5k damage. If someone was actually able to do that, they deserve a medal.

Easy kill lol. Have you ever played or fought a mesmer? Mesmers are about as easy to kill as a bunker ele.

Can’t help but think most of the people in this thread haven’t seen what happens to a zerg when you get a couple confusion mesmers and a necro together.

The entire point of the three realm system is for the two smaller realms to be able to team up against the largest to help combat population issues. Calling that wrong when it was the goal in the first place is more than a bit silly.

Do you really enjoy the downed state mechanic so much that you want to force people to build teams around the goal of stomping?

Staff isn’t even remotely weak. Trying to use that as proof that Anet destroys builds doesn’t really do much for you.

I do solo/duo queue frees and it’s fine. Rarely get stomped by a full guild team. Often get third round and even have a decent shot at taking first. At least until the good teams start running out of tickets and have to farm more (which will hopefully be avoided by whatever reward changes are incoming), frees are pretty solid.

Some of you seem to think that if someone asked the “right” question the devs would be forced to reveal everything they are hiding and don’t want to talk about. It doesn’t work that way.

I would suggest people roll with more than 5-10 people stop banging their heads against a wall of 25+ people and roll with more people if they want to succeed in more in WvW engagements.

Why? Why should there be an artificial cap to protect these zergers? Whether you live or die should be based on skill, not based on anet coddling you so that you never have to get better. Whether it’s 10 people or 100, if they stand in the red circles, tough kitten.

Could anyone explain to me why every single person in the guild Duel has run away from me 1v1 like a little kitten? I really have to question their choice in guild name.

For a few days now, when I exit to desktop, the gw2.exe process doesn’t terminate. If I try to load the game later, I get a message saying the game is already running. I have to go into task manager and end it manually before it will let me load the game again.

A good ranger will kitten on a d/d ele. You just won’t be able to stop them from running away. Traps/beasmastery.

The only weapon swapping elementalists need is for conjured weapons to act like temporary swappable weapons.

This is pretty much the case for every MMO I’ve ever played. When leveling, you always outlevel your gear before it breaks, and if you aren’t, then you have bigger things to worry about than the cost of repairing.

For all the problems Riot has, one of the things they do incredibly well is talking to their community. You can go to their dev tracker and see a ridiculous amount of posts every day. The dev tracker here? Only gets a handful of posts per day and most of them are useless support posts which mean nothing to anyone besides the person being replied to.

I don’t know if anet doesn’t care, or if they have their resources poorly allocated, or if they are just financially struggling too much to hire even one person to post on the forums, but their level of interaction is abysmal. For all the fact that they’ve been around a while, the way they act, all the mistakes they make, it’s like watching a small studio trying to run their very first game.

No, it really couldn’t considering I rebound autorun the first day I played the game. This is a bug which requires fixing.

This bug is really starting to tick me off with how many times it’s gotten me killed. It’s not necessarily fear, but it mimics the effect. I lose control of my char and start running in a straight line and can’t do anything for ~ a second. I don’t know what causes it, but it has happened to me multiple times a night since the patch. And no, I’m not just missing the fear animation. It happens when I’m not around anything capable of fearing, it even happens when I’m not in combat.

That’s something that has always amazed me. How much of a sheep do you have to be that the satisfaction you gain from “being part of something” is so great that you can actually enjoy sitting in an uncontested keep for hours on end watching for inc. Just blows my mind.

I gotta hand it to Kaineng players though. They are really exceptional at avoiding even numbered fights.

I read about Kaineng players botting and figured it couldn’t be true, but wow, ya, they totally do lol.

WoW pvp actually is terrible. I was watching I think it was a Blizz con, and between SC matches I checked out some WoW arena pvp. It was truly stupid. The match lasted something like 10-15 minutes, team death match, and literally not a single person died during that time. At the end, they had to decide the winner by which team did the most damage. Boring to watch, kitten gameplay.

You won’t see it unless you are running an incredible slow machine. Placeholder models are for slow loading times client side. “Culling” (in quotes because what we are calling culling isn’t actually culling) is a server side issue.

See, this is what I don’t get. I am running an old computer which lags like crazy around even “small” zergs, but I have not seen a single placeholder. All I’m getting is culling, except even worse than before because it’s happening with smaller groups. The trial in December was awful for me and this is pretty kitten bad too.

So does Kaineng have many roamers/duelers?

Look at league of legends-every play starts every match equal footing. Yes it has items, but its not an mmo where they last, everyone starts on an EVEN footing.

The same is true of tournies. People start on an even footing (minus class balance and skill).

This has absolutely nothing to do with aesthetic rewards and cash shop oddities. I didn’t say implement a gear treadmill in pvp.

And to the other guy, again, why are pvpers constantly told that they should be playing for the experience when pve’ers aren’t? Are pve’ers not having fun? Do they not enjoy the games they play and need some kind of carrot to make it worthwhile? I doubt that’s the case.

As a glass d/d ele, I really hate trap rangers. Hell I hate every kind of ranger. Makes me want to slap people when they say rangers are hugely underpowered and can’t kill anything and d/d ele is hugely overpowered and kills everything with ease.
