I tested the Sc/F arcane build and it’s pretty effective in soloQ. We are very squishy if we want to have some damages and with this weapon set we can always stay at range, have great ranged CC abilities and more condi removal and invul.

I like to run Sc/F. I want to run D/F but Sc/F is just so much stronger Imo out of the two focus options. Though Tbh outside of being fun to play I haven’t really felt there was a real role it fell into. Outside of Swirling Winds I don’t feel like it brought much to the team itself and due to invul mechanics my Obsidian flesh can let me get neutted on as an individual. Lack of damage also makes assaulting somewhat problematic. That being said It’s a good time. Was considering taking the Res trait (serious) because With Obsidian Flesh and Mistform there isn’t a personal threat to trying to res a body. Be interested if you have any more observations on the combo you’d like to share.

Didn’t the winning team only have 1 ranger? And didn’t the winning team’s warrior shut down the other rangers the whole match? Why are we still talking about spirit rangers?

Was lurking, but the answer is because spirit rangers are the newest “we must nerf this no matter what!” QQ-magnet PvP has seen. The community around PvP is the one thing that makes PvP near impossible to joy. “You beat my build, yours is either OP or you were cheating!” is the common mindset I’ve seen here.

Passive Play. Passive play is the problem. Along with screen clutter and body blocking. How did you miss that?

Tbh I think SR is over exaggerated in passivity. It doesn’t feel anymore passive fighting them then every ranger spec I’ve ever seen. The prof has set and forget utils.

Every attack carries the possibility of a spirit proc.

If you’re fighting a Hammer – M/S warrior, or a S/D thief, you know what attacks you need to avoid based on your spec.

Against a spirit ranger, thats every single auto attack, because spirit’s can trigger off of literally every attack. So now, you still have to dodge the things you’d normally dodge, and eat the spirit triggers, because you can’t possibly dodge every single attack. That’s just silly.

And If a warrior brings banners of discipline all his attacks are candidates I can’t kill them and killing him won’t remove them.

Elementalist glyph 25% chance for condis. I’m not looking sleep over it. On crit sigils, on hit/crit traits, always on passives like dagger mastery. Illusionary duelist. The game is full of passive benefits and damage who gives a kitten. You don’t need to dodge every attack. You nuke spirits so there is no proc to begin with. Is that a problem to do? Then maybe raise that the counter play to spirits isn’t feasible.

However with spirits I can pop headshot removing the immunity on ranger. Drop pistolwhip ignore all of his Bs spam and the spirits actives as I kill them. Then he is just a ranger with no utils and if he brings up more they go down just as fast. Bless melee cleave abaddon. Its the same ideaology between a longbow or grenade nuke. Blow spirits then there is no passive. gg Ranger.

Huh? Go the the vendors in the heart of the mist they are up the staircase on the right side of the map below the mystic forge. Press H go to the inventory window double click a rune/sigil and apply it to your armor.

For best results use Pistol Whip.

Its worth what you want it to be.
If you expect any title to suddenly mean the person you are facing is inherently an exemplary player you’ll likely to be disappointed.
There won’t really be exceptions to this no matter how the title is given players leave, players rejoin, players can be carried or do the carrying. The circumstances for how someone got a title and whether they are just coming back from a break for instance all just mean the Title is a Title and nothing more.

If I see my Puma running Champion Slayer Im not going to think he got worse.

The problem with guild wars 1 is that the lord damage objective is not fun to play and promotes boring gameplay. VoD was always better. The problem with Guild Wars 2 is that the new game mode is boring, and they don’t have a support or shutdown class to promote fun team based combat that guild wars 1 had.

The thing with GW1 is if you don’t like a game mode, there are multiple others.
I was mad addicted to Fort Aspenwood. Oh and the most inane crap I would run in FA. Beastmaster ranger bar full of pet skills. R/A Dagger ranger Rt/A Spirit Strength dagger ritualist , think I ran a Dagger dervish too just for the hell of it. Shadow of Haste sin (back when it was broke as all hell) way too much fun.

If you’re going to abandon GW2 keep it in the family. Might catch some of Sharps references to GW1 he does every once in awhile.

I think it is a given that they’ll do a skill balance, maybe even the Sigil update will come down the pipe.

Short term, mid term goals should be that incentive that is wanted.

How much more is wanted? There’s a lot of things that be “nice”
but outside of another game mode there isn’t a huge craving from me for anything “big”.

I agree to an extent.
The game is more enjoyable if you don’t stress over it.

But this "Another sign its a pve game is that people want “goals” and “progression” in their pvp. People who play proper competitive pvp games get this progression from competition. " I agree’d with.
Honestly have never seen all this talk about goal and progression and incentive crap until GW2. Playing sports in school, Misc games, Strategy games, Fighting games, Shooters, a handful of MMO’s, A moba. In GW2 the PvP player needs carrot on a stick, there is probably an 8 year old child right now fighting his 10 year old friend or cousin from down the block in Tekken 5 or whatever number is out right now trying to be the best he can and win because he enjoys it not because he’s going to get a new skin out of it. Weird as hell. Been playing Smite since April, godpack there is nothing to get, if I want skins I can buy them, there is no incentive other than enjoying myself. Think the game is more popular in pvp as well so doubt carrot stick is really what pvp needs.

Constructive Ranger Thoughts

I wanted to enjoy the Ranger profession in GW2, given that I enjoyed all 3 medium armor professions in GW1.
As Atherakhia said there is a lot of effectivity put into the pet but the pet itself is not an engaging mechanic not because it couldn’t be but well I think in their aim of simplifying the pet they took out part of the enjoyment of it.

About Ranger spirits. I think there is a general issue of trade-off and weak foundations in the game that could be improved. Not really that pets and AI are bad tools to have in the game. I think of GW1 with Spirits vs GW2 and it’s to me not that AI are terrible things to have but I think Traits sometimes are too…important?
A untraited spirit can’t move. For that lack of mobility the actual range for which it applies passive effects is truthfully pretty small and it has pitiful health given where it needs to be to be in effect. I think Anet should make Spirits at a base level a bit more weildy and given that they don’t move in that state they’d be cast outside of the immediate action and wouldn’t be causing the same visual mess as Spirit Unbound versions.

If I was just going to change Rangers based on their current state then Nature’s Vengeance would also decrease Spirit Toughness by taking the trait which makes cleaving them out easier and faster to do.

Sun Spirit is frankly too blinding. It covers too much information. If they can have some kind of priority list so that everything appears over top of the Sun spirit animation it would’ve been clearer. Every team fight with two-three rangers white spots blow up on the screen with all the pets on top of that. It’s somewhat ridiculous.

I think healing is being overestimated. In many areas healing can be quite weak and certain heals have situations where they just fall off in effectivity.

I’ll be blunt in that while I appreciate attrition,pressure and stall teams,
I don’t think those styles translate well to Conquest. Respawn times are relatively short for that play and conquest is about quick flipping nodes and holding them. If you take too long to flip nodes you let points accumulate, and you allow more time for help to arrive. Sure if you can get the nodes and hold them no problem, but pressure specs aren’t fast node assaulters which goes against the scoring system of the game which ticks every second.
I think naturally unless conquest scoring system changed and maybe even the respawn time, attrition specs wont be favored. That and with the flexibility many professions have you don’t need to spec “attrition” because you already have damage and sustainability.

If I can condi nuke or Power spike why would I go attrition and take 2 or 4x as long to kill and maybe give them 15+ points as a result of taking that long to flip when I can do it faster and with less points given while having a Bunker sit on what we take. Like you said you need to shoot gaps between defenses/heals or just straight over-power them but if that weren’t the case the game would probably be slowed so that the person who flips a node gets 40+ points off it because no one can take it back quick enough.

You misunderstood completely. Attrition is not a spec. Attrition based gameplay means targets can be whittled down. This doesn’t have to mean that the whittling process has to be slow. It can mean that health lost is more difficult to get back, which is at the core of this discussion.

In this sustain heavy meta you see players’ health pools ping ponging between low and high. Many of the aspects of the meta that people are upset with such as skill spam are a result of the devs trying to counterbalance against a high level of sustain.

Fourth is correct in pointing out that the lack of a low regen resource pool such as mana further increases the sustain in this game. Smite, for instance, does have some high sustain gods such as Aprodite, Hel and Chang’e, but 1) their heals are not nearly as strong as the heals in GW2 (health pool does not ping pong) 2) they have to take mana into consideration. In our sustain heavy meta a 1v1 fight, where both characters have high heals and low damage, can draw out potentially infinitely because of the lack of a slow regen resource.

Maybe. I’m trying to say that it doesn’t fit GW2’s combat because of Conquests time based nature.
Smite has very powerful healing and many mana concerns dissolve over the course of the game. Hel and chang’e heal a Group, there heals are individually low but very heavy for a group and stronger generally than GW2 heals. GW2 heals are individual focused similar to say Lifesteal in smite (which can heal incredibly fast).

I checked the german side of forums a month ago and it was dead lol.

Tbh at the pace Anet puts out pvp features I don’t think anyone is really going to notice the time difference in your output frequency as a result of spending 5-10 mins on posting. “Instead of waiting 5 months for this, you’ll have to wait 5 months and one hour.”

However I don’t really care if the devs post anymore tbh. Not to knock Sharp or Peters but outside of Evan nothing really seems to be said of immediate worth. Typically with Evan it’s “Im on it, someone is on it, ideally next patch, not our jurisdiction” and done. If it’s from someone else your pretty much gaining nothing outside of “feels” because (I reason) they are restricted from speaking about the things you really want to hear from them.

Outside of Evan dev response isn’t worth much outside of a blue moon and a it’s not uncommon to see things go in a different way to how they alluded it would so might as well just let them throw out their results instead of posting. Would rather devs speed up frequency of updates (and I mean speed up, it’s been traditionally slow) than talk all the time. Not that they couldn’t manage both, but if you’re going to only do one, then speed up this slow pace.

Thing seems kittened.
I don’t support sets hinging on few of their skills being viable. Leaves a poor taste in my mouth. If this thing was in Spvp it would just speak poorly of the game.
Use 3/5 skills, rival complete sets. Playing S/P, D/P, SB, even S/D who wants 3/5 to beat 5/5 No thanks jeffery. Then again don’t know if in reality it actually holds up, but the idea of it doing so doesn’t sit right with me.

DoT on crit condi’s for instance benefit from condi damage. If you have pre + Condi damage you can get your on crit procs for your condi damage. If this was just on hit, taking the precision itself starts to be less valuable since you don’t require it to trigger something like Dhuumfire.

Burning removing chill conflicts with the elementalist as well. Hell If I recall Rune of the Elementalist is burn and chill affiliated.

However adding these additions just feels unnecessary unless they’re doing a full revamp of things. Should just nerf crap.

Customizable Amulets?

I’m sure there has been a thread about this, but I just wanted to know what everyone thinks about them. It can work like the trait line, only thing is, we can still have the options to customize it towards Rabid, Carrion, Beserker etc.

I think this is a great idea that can come with templates, because then we can actually have more build diversity (not saying there’s going to be a lot, but I believe there will be), and we’re not just stuck with a few trinkets. The biggest part of our build is the amulet we choose. I think I speak for a lot of people wanting more diversity, so this could be a foot in the door for many more good changes to come.

Less is more in a way.

More precise stat allocationo just creates more precisely cut cookies. It won’t foster diversity. In all likelihood something springing up out of this would just make something else fall out of place. Balance is more on the trait and skills than on the stats available.

No I don’t feel special. The birthday gift in gw1 never made me feel “special” ever it’s a god kitten set of pixels that you have to double-click to activate, and realistically were forgotten about within 10 minutes of obtaining them and only remembered when I saw someone in chat buying minis and when HoM came out. Who are we kidding? Mini’s don’t matter to a lot of people, but neither does do the two boosts, unless they needed to throw in a Liquid jar of Glory

However.
It was nice that they sent something. Same way I felt about receiving that purple kite thing and the other things they sent me before that I can’t remember for using the gem store.

Logged in due to this thread (Guess OP is better incentive then living story/pvp) just to check it out. The miniature isn’t PvE exclusive thought there might actually be some legitimate bias to pve in here and there isn’t. It’s just twisted thinking to formulate a complaint on something Anet actually didn’t botch this time.

Or are the rest of the players who actually played GW1 going to act surprised that there is a miniature as if they gave GW1 players 5,000 dollar checks as birthday presents.

There is plenty of areas to complain about this game if anyone wants to complain about it. Glory is near useless, diversity is depressing, balance leaves something to be desired, maps that need revision being forced down your neck regardless, slow rate of change, one mode, lack of tuts, lack of replays, blah blah.
I don’t think this is one of them.

Physical damage as the standard.
Condition teams as viable but not typical without a dedicated teams a condition user ended up as more support-damage or became the primary damage only when the rest of the phys team was being hard-walled.
AI users with strong back-point play but significantly diminished power in team fights.
Aoe used to zone people off of points and strong when hitting multiple people but lackluster on an individual level unless it requires melee range/set-up (Dragon’s Tooth).
Banners, Venoms and Aurasharing are again not typical but strong enough to be built around on well plugged in teams.

What’s the problem about fights lasting a couple of minutes?

In Guild Wars 1, unless you were facing a 2-monks team in RA, fight rarely lasted more than 2 minutes.

I don’t recall any class in gw1 being able to two shot your HP in a matter of seconds.

Can’t think of anything outside of a Warrior Kill-shot that actually one-two shots.
In terms of fast TTK? The Assassin at multiple periods of time could drop you in a second or two. Shoot what was that combo, Black Lotus strike, Horns of the ox, black spider strike, BoS/Death blossom/Twisting Fangs. Something like that. Throw in IAS such as Burst of Agression, flurry and bounce. Impale spikes…. Meh. Then again an ele only had to hit blinding Flash and he had to sit on his kitten until a monk came.

Can’t change people but….
They should change the que system to have an “Accept” before the teams are actually made.
Everyone knows Que times can sometimes be lengthy or something can happen in between that que time. Should ask players if they’re still ready once you find enough players. If they aren’t ready or press nothing throw them out of the selection and then make the teams out of those who said they were ready.
If there is a remainder left just throw them back into the que.
Could at least reduce the amount of players who come in afk from the start.or who logged out awhile ago.

He probably means stats, which I whole-heartedly agree with. The game plays a lot better with pve gear than pvp gear.

Lol lots of games face this same and similar issues.

Played a moba the other day that does have report functions, dishonor and the like, guy sat in base upset that he kept dying like a moron about how we can’t win when Im fed to hell won that game without him. He sat there telling everyone to give up because he wanted to leave (but wouldn’t because he was afraid of leave punishment).

I get it’s all annoying and a report function might help but Anet aren’t psychiatrists they aren’t going to be able to prevent the character of every individual from messing with others.
At some level people gonna have to face that even if a report function is made, they’re still going to see horse kitten happen. You’ll be able to report it but well it’s still going to happen. It happened All.The. Blinking. Time. In Random Arenas. Can see it every day in some other games I circle.

1st. Rune of Water removes a condition with a 5% chance when you are hit. Last I read the set was broken though.

2. Sigil of Purity removes a condition on critical hit (but can proc when you have no conditions on you).

Vulnerability is fine. It’s just that most abilities which apply it suck at stacking it or last for a very short duration.

If I can be “selfish” …I hope you’re concerned with more than PvP rewards.

The Rewards are abysmal but carrot-sticking players to play PvP isn’t exactly….right?
To me PvP Rewards are a quality of life thing, you make them better because it’s an overall improvement of the game but it’s not gameplay. It’s quality of life that PvP should give me exp so I can jump into WvW more easily as an alternative game mode instead of feeling discouraged if I want to do it on anything other than my Thief since I didn’t feel compelled to go through PvE more than once.
It’s a pain that nothing in PvP outside of hoping for some dyes can be traded into PvE for some sort of coin revenue so if I want to gear another character I can do it without jumping on an event with 90 other people pressing 1 all day like a Ranger at some npc I can’t even see attack through particle effects and sheer people.

However it’s more than a pain that there isn’t another Gearless, levelless game mode that isn’t an Activity (so we still have our profession skills). When I burned out I popped into Smite and it’s a lot easier to stay in there because when I burned out of their main game mode due to some balance things they had done at the time…They had another mode I didn’t mind to jump into and wait things out. I’d think player retention is a good thing. You guys should get another mode in here, and throw some quick teleport NPC’s in the mists to the Activities (keg brawl and such) like you used to have in GW1 for the holiday events at the Great Temple of Balthazar.
The Mist should be a gathering of all things PvP, the consolidation of the pvp browser into the pvp window was great because it makes things more ergonomic but you could throw activities into the Mist (or teleports to them) for the same reason. If you’re worried about players bypassing way points you can use Glory as a teleport currency (broaden its purpose).

It’s more than a pain that classes fall in and out of favor the way they do but it’s also a lesser spoken of issue when weapon sets fall in and out of use (or some cases never came in). It was extremely agitating to say the least when S/D on a thief was nerfed back in Dec and then the set was left in that position all the way until April. That was a different play style you just removed from the game at the time, not cool at all. What were you going to tell them to play? D/P, D/D? Didn’t play the same, what if they didn’t like it than the answer was to kitten off? Of course not, you guys got to get that unlock, don’t nerf things off the face of the planet and leave it like that for months, it’s straight up ridiculous and the real reason people get worried about nerfs. What they enjoy may not just be toned down it might get nuked out of orbit for an extensive period of time. No reason to Smiters Boon anything in GW2. Yes OP stuff has to be nerfed, but if you’re looking at your statistics and see “How come we never see this?” then you’ve got to make some steps. From Launch to this date Elementalist conjures outside of Firey Great Sword have been underrepresented why is that? The Focus and staff? underrepresented, why? Thief Pistol/Pistol? Outside of a Jon Peters comment in December that it was underperforming and a body shot change I don’t know if it even exists in the dev client.

Work on having something extra to retain players if they don’t feel Conquest at the time, some diversity improvements. So many terrible Sigils and your team has acknowledged it, but we’re still waiting for even some changes. If there is still a slow and steady belief (maybe that changed) there should’ve been one or two changes to a couple sigils to bring them up by now.

GW2 isn’t terrible at all, it’s just frustrating (and it shouldn’t be which is why I take breaks) when it feels like things are barely happening. Balance does come and remedies issues but then another hole opens up or things get nuked out of orbit. Ends up feeling like for every patch we take A quarter of a step forward and I was hoping for a full step.

For an MMO game GW2 is one of the best balanced, hundreds of MMO’s have come and gone and do not hold a candle to GW2 in that department. However as a PvP game where it’s genre is ignored, GW2 can aim a lot higher than passing the low standards that MMO games have of their pvp.
