Try playing daredevil without the entire line unlocked then come back to me and tell me you can use these right off the bat. No, no you can’t unless you want to purposefully kitten yourself. And the most frustrating thing is that if DD was fully unlocked stepping into the jungle, I would probably be having the time of my life atm. But no, I gotta slog through the entire thing while climbing up grind walls every step of the way just to get to the fun part. That’s not cool.

I would have prefered if they just increased lvl cap instead, this is like jumping through mandatory grind hoops in a -> b -> c nature; there is no way to deviate, it has to be played how ANET wants you to. Play your way my fanny.

I don’t want to log in.

16 hours after release.

Is that how it’s supposed to be then?

This Elite grind is not fun, it’s infact super duper UN-FUN.

When you know you have not much content, throw up grind walls around every corner and claim less is more.

See here’s the thing, I don’t mind grinding, I can with stand a punishing amount but this…this is absolutely absurb and they expect us to do this with ever single char we play. Really? REALLY?!

Suffice to say, HoT is totally disappointing. I had more fun in WoD which is saying something.

10/10 IGN Grind Wars is Grindy.

I uh, yea.

What they did with elite progression is so off putting that I don’t even want to play. It’s a nasty grind gated behind masteries; you cannot get most these skill points unless you leveled all these up and you have to do this with every char you play. Wow.

Can you imagine how new players will feel once they realize the truth?

This elite grind serves no purpose but to slow people down to a crawl to artificially extend play time. Do not like.

So, PvE is out to gain hero points any time soon since it is heavily gated with mastery grinds…my question is; is WvW faster? It won’t take much!

At this point, I think I am just going to sit in a darned corner and kill pigs to gain exp. Events I die over and over + give low exp so that’s not fun so maybe farming mobs is best if WvW is slow too.

Epic grind for sure lol. Plus you have to do this with every char you like to play. I would have made a training story line for each with nice cinematics + VO to teach players their new spec then have it rewarded unlocked at the end. But no, that would be to expensive so lets just have a smarty trail grind instead. Awesome.

I ditched my main that has world completion due to race so re-rolled different ones. I really hope I don’t have to play it since my alts have barely any thing done in that aspect (88/122 skill pts per). Just imagine new players that have even less. I hope it’s not an epic grind, dare devil for thief for instance is pretty lame until the last tier.

Staff is much better this time around but it really feels like it is nothing more than left overs from the rev, almost like it’s a rushed decision to meet a dead line; please tell me it isn’t so.

Dardevil is nice and gives incredible mobility however I am not sure I will be specing this at all; the extra bar of stam is nice for openers but once that stam is gone it’s back to the same old waiting game. All thiefs seem to get is +1 stam for the expansion which is a bit of a let down considering all the shiny new things other classes get.

As to suggestions, I really can’t name any because at this point the expansion is soon and all this is more than likely set in stone. Sigh.

p.s. pls change how we hold the staff, I suggest like martial artist hold pikes. ie. arm out with hand in middle with staff head pointed to ground/rest of the shaft tiled diagonally behind the back with other hand palm out kinda deal. Staff looks silly being held like a mace,.

Canadian retailers? Non-existent

I used to shop exclusively at E&B games but over the years they have pretty much dropped PC support/sales and is focused on consoles only. I now boycott that store, I will never shop there again; in all 3 stores in my area they have no idea what a pc is and they have very little PC items in stock. I can’t even order any thing from them, they just won’t do it. I tried to order gw2 hot from them and they just looked at me like I was crazy; I kid you not, they had no idea what GW2 is and one clerk even told me there is no such game. Horrible store, just awful. Heck london drugs is better.

As to OP, get a vanilla visa pre-paid card and use that ingame; this is how I have been buying things in gw2 for year now and I have had zero issues. Just make sure you have a big enough pre-paid b/c since we are canadian we get hit by taxes, exchange rates, hidden fees, etc so it will end up costing way more than what Anet lists. It sucks but most the retailers up here won’t order in a pc game unless it has an extremely high demand so only way I know of to get most things is online purchases only now.

Only reason why I’d spec this is to only use dagger/pistol…having a nifty death blossom as a dodge is kinda fun. Plus all those extra dodges/stam regen is handy. If I didn’t have to equip a staff to access this line, I might even use it occasionally.

But I won’t be usin a staff nor the new secondaries since none them really interest me; to clunky, to slow, to situational, to not fun. Oh well.

So does this means they might put in a ‘premium’ account feature? Thus, if you DO not pay this money per month you will get .oo1% exp, loot, rewards, etc of a prem account and possibly even more limitations on top of that. Is this why they put in that new clause in the ToS to usher this in? If so, consider me gone. If I am going to pay a sub, I would play wow instead.

I really hope there is no plans for something like a ‘premium’ account type deal which is in most korean f2ps mmos. This is the sneaky way of putting in a ‘sub’ without going against what they have said.

ie. you can play for free but expect low drop rates, exp, rewards, etc unless you pay premium every month.

If something like this happens, I will uninstall GW2 and never play this game or any other made by anet ever again.

Problem is…serker is so much better then every thing else.

Some combos are even totally worthless in PvE.

ie. it’s common that anyone wearing all cleric’s gear like my ele is considered naked.

Reason why is that this stat combo is pretty much being naked; can’t get tags very well in events, produce next to no dps, the healing difference between 0 and 2k is marginal, and survivability wise in hard content…you will still die instantly just like a serker. So what’s the point?

Why does a set like cleric even exist if it has to suck so much compared to meta stats combos anyways.

No one wants to have a sub optimal player in their group, not even friends. They will just say: bring your serker pls. Meh.

Should rename game to: Beserkerwars 2.

Healing Boon Idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: fixit.7189

fixit.7189

Can make healing power a better stat for sure but many do not want this in fear of it turning trinity. I really don’t think that will ever happen even if they buff the heck out of + heal…how healing/abilities here work is entirely different than most normal trinity mmos.

In gw2, healing is a whoooole lot different than trinity based games; it takes a large amount of luck, prediction, postion, and skill to even land a heal on someone who needs it. I mean heals here target pets before players; it’s all RNG.

If it’s to OP for PvP then just have different rules/modifiers then. As to PvE, it’s not like you really need it anyways since serker kills it all, super fast. It would just be nice to be able to go a support build and not be a negative effect; is that too much to ask? :S

On topic; really dig this purity boon thought that’s being tossed around. It has potential…but I doubt they will do much. The ‘fear’ of healing is over whelming here. :\

Tempest promotes awesome new playstyle!

in Elementalist

Posted by: fixit.7189

fixit.7189

Tempest complemented my all cleric/healer build along with shouts I found; more on demand burst and heals. The former helps me get tags for loots/events and the later increased my healing out put.

Only concerns are no stability on over loads, long cds locking attunement swaps on overloads, some shouts being pretty weak yet have long cds, and the elite which I probably will never use.

I wish some shouts had finishers attached to them and I also wish that we could get a nice, usuable elite that also has a blast finisher attached to it. I have been running arcane wave for years now since that is the only good blast finisher available to me and it would be nice to have an alternative choice…

Also wish a revamp of tagging systems for rewards when it comes to doing helpful things like healing, ressing, boon/aura sharing, etc; this particular issue has been annoying me for years.

Essentially first hits and or DPS is crucial to get credit which means if I am not running a meta build…it can be real frustrating. This has effected the player base as whole: dps first, support/help other players dead last all due to fact that playing non-meta builds is punished rather than rewarded. ie you have to go all out dps just to get the goodies so often times people won’t even res others b/c of this. That really isn’t promoting ‘team play’ very well I must say. :S

Also…a buff to +heal would be nice…and before you start getting upset about this…I am merely suggesting if you run 1k plus healing power it’s a little more powerful like say…in power or even allowing crits. Maybe at 1500 heals you have 5% to crit on heal effects; I don’t think this would break the game all that much plus with that amount of heals needed to get crit heals….dps orientated players should not be able to abuse it. If needed put a cap on it as well…say 5-10%ish. Maybe? Hum.

W/e I like tempest a lot and want it in game now lol; it’s hard to play my ele now all due to not having it as a choice since it slightly improved my performance in many areas. I hope there is buffs and or good adjustments in the future regardless.

This is what they will say, just wait…it’s coming.

If raids do end up in game and if they are indeed really hard, the raiders will ask for another tier of gear which leads to an endless road of darkness and pain. I know anet stated they won’t be adding another gear tier but that’s same thing they said before ascended/buffing legendaries. Then raiders will eventually face roll those raids and then ask for hard modes with even better gear. Raiding will either become mandatory or a waste of time. I have this sinking feeling it might change the game for the worst. There are reasons why I don’t play WoW no more and mandatory raiding is one of them; gw2 I can solo with no guild and get good gears/items….not so in WoW. Hence, GW2 is one of my fav mmos ever!

Are all builds viable in PvE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: fixit.7189

fixit.7189

The tagging system…yea, that’s the biggest issue for me; it’s entirely based upon first hits/damage done…nothing else effects it like…

- ressing
- healing
- applying yummy boons
- building siege

Add to this…

- healing power as a stat scales poorly, lowest in game.
- healing abilities cannot crit.

Just to name a few; GW2 actively punishes you for taking non-meta builds that use healing power rather than rewarding them; it’s designed to push players to pure DPS in the most part when it comes to PvE. In order to get loots and credit for events…it’s all based on pure damage.

Why exactly does it have to be this way?

Only thing I can think of is to stop afkers but we all know those people just use auto attack macros anyways.

Highest heal I can do with ele with 1963 healing power is around…4k.

My serker thief auto attacks for 12k…and can blind/stealth tank every thing but champs/bosses…ok.

My heal ele takes a large amount of skill to heal/support/drop boons like mad yet my thief is pretty much face roll the 1 key 99% the time. It’s clear dps is by far the best way to go and that…I have issues with.

I wish healing power scaled better and or crit, like say only past 1000 healing power so the DPS players can’t abuse it. I mean cleric ele was once a really good build until they nerfed it to uselessness; devs here hate healing with a passion lol.

Anet should maybe just remove healing power as a stat entirely so players will not be confuse; it’s a worthless stat that scales super bad compared to every thing else.

W/e. I fully ascended my cleric gear; yep, 900 gold I spent on this. LOL!

fixit.7189

I been using clerics for uh…2 years on my ele. I try to play a ‘healer’. Suffice to say, getting tags for kills/events is extremely difficult; it’s ineffecient, lowest dps ever, often times frustrating, and I don’t really heal all that well…it is quite possibly the very worst set up in game. My thief on the other hand is full serkers and I never have any issues at all, heck my survivability is just about the same yet I can dish out up to 32k on a single button press lol. Is all builds viable in PvE? Yes, but the meta builds will out perform the ‘bad’ ones by a MASSIVE margin. I had hoped HoT would open it up a bit but that sadly does not look like the case; serker is still king.

W/e. Do not use clerics in PvE…you will get yelled at, called foul names, and or get lots of group kicks if people find out. People around here really hate cleric gear players, that’s for sure lol. I need monk runes too but no one wants me around. Sigh.

There has been next to no innovation and it also does not help many devs don’t even bother to try to retain players and instead go for box sales then drop support for game shortly after launch.. I been only doing PvE so far.

I went with all cleric’s gear, monk runes, +10 heal per kill/energy sigil, heal food/might stones, and water/arcane/tempest traits = just under 2k heals self buffed….basically direct copy of setup I been using for years (support bunker).

Generally, I do feel I can make more of a difference healing/support wise than live; a noticable improvement which is nice. The added burst of overloads also is really helping me get tags for loots and events which is also cool. This is some thing I have struggled with for years. Overloads helps big time with that.

I really like the concept of those Overloads but like others say…they need buffing or something. To easy to interrupt thus a long lock out and the output of these seem rather low considering the risky channel times.

New shouts; I like the fire one but the rest not so sure about…don’t seem that great due to long cds. Still over all I think they are neat.

And finally that new elite…not very good, I can’t forsee using that in any mode unless it’s in a team on vent…even then idk. I’d throw it out and make a new one like a nice strong aoe of doom. One could hope!

Anyways, having a lot of fun with tempest so any potential buffs/improvements would be fine by me!

Been playing since vanilla beta…I still think this is the BEST mmo out there even though I been playing that other one for 10 years; each one has their pluses and minuses in my mind.

So you are saying to quit because I am unimpressed what I see so far? I won’t quit, I will soldier on but imo HoT does not really seem like much at least from what I have been shown. I would think that an expansion here would be a perfect opportunity to really flip things around but in the end nothings really changed. ie. beserker meta is still alive and well! Also, many things like these new ‘masteries’ feel like a gimmick rather than improving the over all game experience; you won’t be able to use this new fancy stuff outside of the new zone anyways. Each their own opinion man.

now that’s being plain stupid.

Gotta love people responding with personal attacks instead of debating with poise but hey that’s expected in this day and age; when in doubt, use insults. Bravo.

First Impressions of HoT

Maguma Jungle: really boring and not much different than anything else I have seen since launch.

Maguma Mobs: lots and lots and lots of knock downs, sometimes endless chains of them. Is that really what they call ‘harder mobs’? Then there is those lovely archers…with full tank gear I was getting owned by those even if I dodge a lot since they can apparently spam that ranged ability near non-stop. Meh.

Maguma events; same thing as any other part of tyria but far less since most zone is still locked. Many events break too. Since there isn’t much to do here, I can’t be bothered to try to level up the new spec lines since BWE exp is pathetic and slow as molasses. /yawn

Revenant: the additions are really nice with the weapon swap/added shiro line/swords but in the end I cannot get excited about this class since I rarely use more than a couple of buttons since most are fairly useless/super situational/generally a waste of energy….

*Celestial gear: did alright but it felt lack luster and ineffective over all.

*Cleric gear/healer build (buffed over 2k heals): an almost unoticable increase of heals/dmg since last build. I would not suggest anyone going this route since you have no dps and weak heals + I struggle to get credit for events/loot drops. Seriously, all I ever get is bronze no matter how much I support the people around me. I felt…totally useless and infact detrimental to other players; DPS >>>>>>> support even still.

*Beserker gear/build: unsuprisingly this felt like the proper set up for the Rev….just like most other classes. While being super squishie, I am able to kill stuff so much easier/get credit. This feels like the only real gearing option that matters. Still, my thief does 5x the dps and has more survivability.

Might try condi…but I dunno, the class just does not feel fun to play. Yes the weapon swap addtion is welcome (and totally needed) however the issues I had in the previous build is still here; there is ZERO choice when it comes to skill customization beyond trait lines and even then there is clear cut choices for those that are better than others. No choice is boring, sorry. I was going to make a rev alt and probably ascend it…but idk no more, think I will just stick to ele for support and my theif for kill everything mode.

New mastery things: I got a glider, it’s kinda cool to fly around but it all feels pointless and a waste of time. I don’t think I will even bother with these at HoT launch; any unlocks I will get will be by pure accident. I find these boring. Each their own.

New area and loots; there is none, this same crap I been finding for years and that is again disappointing.

Not tried much beyond what I described and honestly I do not feel compelled to test any further; what is in these BWE can be seen in under an hour. I really do hope there is more to HoT than this, so far I am not impressed. If this is 25% of the content then I expect I will have it at least explored in a few days…k.

you’re just as useless to your team as a clerics guardian using a staff.

And there we have it, this is what it all comes down to.

You are useless if you go clerics or any other support type build/gear set that isn’t the meta dps; you heard it here first!

Ugh…reply against better judgement…

In trinity mmos…they force you to play one of three roles; dps, tank, or heals.

In GW2…they force you into only one: meta DPS.

Playing any other build that is not the most optimal DPS in PvE is detrimental, extremely inefficient, and actually punished in many ways for doing so. Groups upon finding out you are in say…full clerics will kick you instantly and replace with a meta zerker with out thought….meh.

How to Improve Revenants ideas

Rev needs heavy work but I really can’t comment more until it is near completion and not missing lots of things. One thing that worries me is that the vast majority of players are asking for dps buffs only and barely anyone wants the support side buffed. I thought Rev was supposed to be the ultimate support class but here everyone wants it do be the next uber dps. I want to play the rev as a viable (and wanted) support class personally….is that a bad wish? Seems like it lol.

W/e. Here’s hoping the rev in next beta is better…than…this.

The idea that everyone is a DPS in GW2 is just plain idiotic and absurd.

Thanks for bringing insults to the table. I am done replying; have fun and good luck.

So its ok that dps people get all the glory and tank/healer types get punished…yea. Well, dps players do out number support fans by a massive margin so it is indeed understandable. I really hope HoT brings more team play aspects and less punishment to players who actually enjoy being a support player….weird I know.

If they can break the zerker meta then I am all for it. Nothing is more boring to me than a game were going max damage is by far the superior way to go. No matter how much healing/toughness I might equip, I will still get one shot like I would in zerker gear and that to me is the problem…many stats are not that strong beyond the pure dps ones.

They don’t want to force people into roles…then explain the beserker only meta that has been here since launch; dps or go home. Just look at the common advertisements for pugs where most ask for beserker only; if you play with healer stats, no one wants you around. People will infact complain at how useless you are lol.

Yea in GW2 there really is one role, dps….do or die. If you go tanky/healy roles you are almost always hindering other players rather than helping them; it’s better to be specced as much dps as possible and kill the mobs as quickly as possible rather than be a gimpy no effect support player that just drags things out longer than it has to be.

But in end this is how gw2 is…it’s a bastion for dps players who hate tanks/healers and wants nothing to do with them. lol.
