Honestly I’d put Signet of Rage as one of the best elites, simply because you’re actually getting something from it all the time, unlike nearly every other elite where 99% of the time it’s sitting on your bar being a complete waste of space.
Most elites I would without a second thought replace with a utility skill, because most of them are pretty mediocre, and all of them have too long of a cooldown. At least utility skills can be used.

Food offers benefits, alcohol doesnt (im talking in game benefits like power).

He’s not talking about benefits, his point is, if Anet is so careful to not introduce certain things that might prove offensive to a certain type of person, then why introduce alcohol? Alcohol is generally seen as a negative beverage.
I, for one, am not offended by any of the above cases.

Right but if they added an item that gave an advantage, but it had issues with religion, that may be an explanation for it not being in game. Thats why alcohol would be allowed.

There are hamburgers in the game, which you can certainly make using meat from cows you slay, and 1 recipe requires Rice Wine, which is alcohol.
Plus, the whole “murder everything you see” thing the game has going is probably offensive to a lot of people. Which is not cared about.

Though I agree completely with this thread, there’s one thing I’d like to point out:
If you’re crafting 80 exotics, Ori and Hardened Leather are secondary materials on both Armorsmithing and Leatherworking. The primary material is Gossamer, because the insignias need 5 bolts of it each, and everything needs 1 Gossamer for padding (except headpieces, which need 2, and leather boots, which need none). To make a full set of metal armor, you need nearly 3x as much Gossamer as Ori.

If you’re worried about gold or materials then I suggest Chef as a profession that you craft since most of the ingredients can be bought through karma.

Chef costs a pretty good amount of money between lots of necessary vendor buys (water, flour, sugar, etc) and expensive ingredients on the TP (eggs, vanilla) and very rarely makes anything worth selling on the TP to get a little money back, and never anything that can even be vendored.

34) Switching to the Medkit does not incur a 1s recharge on the Medkit skill itself unless you were already holding the Medkit. This allows using Kit Refinement twice nearly instantly, which can be valuable sometimes (notably against the Toy Golems, where it usually constituted roughly half my damage output against those stunlocking kittens)

35) Swapping to Grenade Kit with Kit Refinement while inside of an enemy (via a dodge or by not having Melee Assist on) will cause all the grenades to detonate immediately instead of spreading out and mostly being useless.

In PvE I never really had any problem facetanking trash mobs with just Knights gear.
Kiting like that just really isn’t all that necessary.
Though being a condition build considering P/P it might not work as well in your case.

As for a suggestion, stacking Toughness makes it a lot easier to just stand there and basically just PBAoE with the grenades, turning off quick targeting will allow you to fire even while holding down RMB (hit it once to get a targeting circle, again to fire), and I would also suggest bringing Elixir Gun with you (preferably with 10 in Tools for Kit Refinement) and use Super Elixir.

And don’t bother using grenades against single targets, it’s really not worth it any more. Use the toolbelt skill, sure, but it’s not particularly useful to switch to the kit unless you’re against a group of enemies. And even then, it’s not really very valuable at ranges against things that don’t stand still anyway, so you’re often better off using them at nearly point blank. Don’t let the 1200 range fool you, that’s only for when something else is holding their attention.

Every leap attack and nearly every projectile has a maximum range that it can’t go past. If someone is in range when its cast, but is out of the range by the time it finishes, they won’t be hit, as it will not adjust the range beyond what the normal limit is, unlike many games.
So an enemy running away from you effectively shortens the range of any projectile attack or leap according to how fast they’re moving and how fast the projectile or leap moves.

you can’t melee bosses because of lol hp/toughness ratios, and the auto atack from pistol is very weak, and no synergy at all with dps builds….

So what you’re complaining about is that you don’t have dps, utility, and survivability all at the same time.

Why cant we "gather" cloth and leather too?

in Crafting

Posted by: gimmethegepgun.1284

gimmethegepgun.1284

you’re missing some sources of cloth and leather: namely, that some mobs drop it, humanoid mobs also drop bags of X material which can contain cloth

Yeah, bags may contain cloth. Or they may contain butter, cinnamon, or a host of other non-cloth materials. That is, of course, assuming the humanoid drops a bag in the first place. Ore nodes, meanwhile, are guaranteed to drop metal.

And, of course, said bags also may contain metal.

You know, I don’t think people realize just how much cloth is needed.
Exotic recipes for armor need FIVE Gossamer bolts for the insignia alone, and then another one for the padding (2 for the helmet padding, none for leather boots).
An Ori chestpiece requires more Gossamer than Ori.
Same goes for Hardened Leather.
Every other piece has smaller and smaller Ori or HL requirements, but the same Gossamer requirement.
That means a full set of exotic metal armor needs 28 Ori ore and 74 Gossamer scraps.
When the ore is easier to acquire through similar means to the cloth (salvaging, because of weapons being involved) and has static nodes in known locations that can be reliably gathered. And the Gossamer is 50% more expensive on the TP.

Really, from looking at other recipes, the Ori requirements of armorsmithing are pathetic.
A single exotic inscription requires more Ori than an entire set of Ori armor.
And yet it’s still cheaper than Gossamer because of how much easier it is to get.

An instant cast (but still with the delay time) with ~5-6 stacks of vulnerability would be interesting.

That is, in fact, what it was in the betas.
A drastically shorter aftercast delay (so you could at least get the terrible autoattack in once between casts), and the cooldown began the moment the spell began, not when it exploded.
It almost resembled something useful.
As it stands now, there is absolutely no reason at all to remain in Water with a Scepter once you fire off the heals because the autoattack and shatterstone are so terrible.
Not that there’s really any reason to use a Scepter at all aside from the Earth and Fire autoattacks…

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: gimmethegepgun.1284

gimmethegepgun.1284

Basically, if the attack is a sweep, with a reasonably sized weapon (so basically everything but dagger) it will be AoE.
Some chains that have sweeps in them end with a stab however (warrior sword, mesmer sword, guardian sword sort of, might be more) that will only hit 1 target.

in Crafting

And those same salvaging tips apply to metals, which can still be gathered from nodes.
So it’s still easier to get metals.
In fact, it’s even EASIER because many weapons will also give metal salvage, while only armor pieces will give cloth or leather.

Metal is used for crafting both armor and weapons, while cloth and leather are only used for armor.

Yeah, and cloth is used in EVERY armor piece of all 3 professions (except leather boots), AND is needed for insignias for every single one of them.
The amount of cloth needed overall isn’t much less than metal needs, except metals are FAR more common because of nodes.

Yes, actually. Note how 800k and 846k are not very far apart.

But with the stack limits, condition builds do almost no damage at all when there’s a few of them there, while direct damage is not limited in such a manner.

Many of the exploration items can be picked up by being careful, but many are inside of towers or keeps that you have to breach in order to get them, and is generally unreasonable to expect it to happen (like the keeps in EBG). The easiest way would be to transfer to a server that is the color you want, or is dominating the field, and do the exploration from there.

Unless you directly buy one from the TP it’s literally impossible to get a legendary without hitting 80 because the 100% map completion alone would get you to level 80.

1%, 4.99%, same system. All that it does is lowers the cost of monopolists to maintain their price lock on low volume items, and increases the cost to buyers on high volume items.

If I’m trying to hold Dusks at 600g, and you post at 599.99.99, I can either let you get one of my sales, or pay 30g to buy up your undercut and relist at my price. At 1% that goes down to 24g, 2% it’s 18 etc…. Every time you step up the “meaningful undercut” you make it cost less and less for me to keep a stranglehold on the market.

Except of course that due to the 10% sales tax you lose a lot more than that.
Even at 5% minimum undercut (which is far too high) you still lose 60g by doing so, while tying up 600g in the meantime.
At 1%, that’s 84g, which isn’t a whole lot less than the 90g loss each at same price.
How much gold would someone be willing to hemorrhage to keep the price from dropping?
Plus, if the price truly is far higher than it should be, it’s only a matter of time until the supply overcomes his ability to hold the price high, the price drops, and now this person is stuck with a ton of completely overpriced items that he will have to sell at an even bigger loss to get some of his money back.

Aside from price fixing scenarios, whose survivability wouldn’t be impacted too much, forcing real undercuts causes prices to drop far more rapidly than the glacial speed it drops from 1c undercuts.
And it wouldn’t be a costless LIFO system any more, which is still the whole point.

ITT:

People don’t seem to understand why items are listed at $199.99 irl.

Because the company values the momentary period of time that someone processes that as “$199” instead of “$200” more than they value 1 cent.
And it’s plainly not in any way price competition when they do that because EVERYONE does that.

they do it for the reason that The $0.01 is able to sell more things. They are competing with the price that is set in a person’s mind and how much the person expect to pay for the item. The 1c undercutting in this case has been used to produce more sells.

Except EVERYONE “undercuts” the real price by 1 cent. If they were actually fighting each others prices in this manner they wouldn’t all be at 1 or 5 cents below the dollar, or at $x.49, or whatever.
The only reason they do it is because the minor perception difference between the 2 prices, the way that people process the beginning and not the end of the number, is worth more than 1 cent.
However, there is no perceptual difference between $199.99 and $199.98, like there is with $200 and $199.99, and people don’t give a kitten about the 1 cent, which is why you don’t see $x.98 or other weird numbers except for things under a dollar.
So, taking this into account, all the arguments in here should be moved by 1 cent down. 1g to 99s99c. And then the 1c undercut to 99s98c is still completely insignificant.

Posted by: gimmethegepgun.1284

Don’t have 2 professions that use the same materials at the same time (namely, Weaponsmithing, Armorsmithing, and Jewelcrafting to a lesser extent). Often you won’t have enough materials from regular gathering to cover even one, let alone both of them.
Get a salvage kit, use it on whites and salvage items, and later on blues. The mats are usually worth more than the item you salvaged, and it’s a good way to extend the lifetime of your inventory.
Click the gear in the top right and use Deposit All Collectibles. That will put crafting materials that are in your inventory into a tab at the bank, which can be accessed from any crafting station.
Completing a zone 100% will give you some awards. Some greens (they often won’t actually be useful, but they sell decently well at a vendor) a small stack of materials (some of those can be quite valuable) and sometimes Black Lion stuff (which you’d otherwise have to buy using gems).
Fully exploring the 6 capital cities (Rata Sum, The Grove, Divinity’s Reach, Hoelbrak, and the Black Citadel) will give a decent amount of experience, as well as 3 Basic Transmutation Stones each. This can be done on every character, which effectively makes Basic Transmutation Stones free rather than having to spend gems on them.
Do Dynamic Events when you pass them. They give good money, experience, and karma. Though fights against Champions often take far too long for the reward you get for them, though some of those will spawn a chest afterwards that can give more stuff.

Changing their capabilities even slightly is capable of throwing them from one end of the spectrum to the other.
And yet every developer tries to put one in a game, for some reason, despite no one ever succeeding in finding a middle ground for the class.

I kinda agree with Bunzy on the heal after death thing. But only kinda.

Taking away either mechanic prevents a major comeback.

How about this:

On death (after downed state) a 1-, 2-, or even 5-minute timer starts on the corpse. If players don’t get to that corpse to start healing it, then that corpse is instantly teleported to the nearest uncontested WP.

Does that sound good? I know people have been constantly complaining about corpse-spying, so this might work for that as well.

You could make the corpse attackable. Start at half health (maybe double it, so rez time is the same). If the corpse reaches 0 health then they’re forced to respawn.
Make a channeled move, like the stake, that will burn a body, rapidly causing damage.
No more corpse spying, cleaning up after a zerg before it gets back is fairly simple, and no more staring at that 90% corpse in the middle of a siege knowing there’s nothing you can actually do to stop it from getting up soon.
