I’m noticing threshold bags also award quite a few found heirooms. I have 75 already, I’ve been largely ignoring rubble and I’ve done 2 1500 saved runs already (it’s honestly not that difficult once you have everyone cooperating).
Just managed to get 1500 with TTS and Darkhaven (not sure if world’s first non-bugged one) just not and we got a Ultimate Citizen’s Rescue Bag which seemed to get everyone at least one item from a previous update. Though it varied in quality. I also was just rescuing citizens the whole time and I got around 148 from clearing the way.
So take what you will if it’s worth it.
Personally I find it more fun then just zerging around everywhere and swinging my lootstick.
What do you mean by an item from a previous event? Like the weapons skins etc?
Anything from anything scarlet related it seems. I heard everything everything from Dragon coffers, the Monocle, an infinite beserker tonic recipe Celestial recipes, Zealot recipes. Personally just got a zealot’s recipe…… it’s not like I got a ton of those from the Marionette.
There are rumors you can get a molton backpack as well.

According to our marketing team, the e-mail went to a segment of players and was not intended for every player.
All the surveys have been distributed and if you did not receive such an e-mail in the last few days you were not in the current sampling and will not be receiving one this time around.
Aww I wanted to take the survey. Guess I’ll have to just take the gems instead…. … ..

So... how do you maximize citizens saved?
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

From patch notes:
*Stopping the miasma deployment by defeating the enemy troops will allow players to rescue five nearby survivors.
-As a further bonus, if all three miasma deployments are simultaneously prevented within ten minutes, an additional 35 citizens will be saved.
*Some groups in Lion’s Arch require an armed escort in order to successfully escape. Assist them by clearing their escape route and increase the rescue tally by five.
*As the miasma nears lethal levels, champions will attack Fort Marriner and the Lion’s Shadow Inn. Elite enemies will land at the Grand Piazza. Defeating each boss event will save 10 additional citizens.
Ahh thanks, why didn’t I see this before.
Was in an OF last night that apparently bugged out early. Ended up saving ~3,180 citizens.
Only 25 bags for rewards. So, not really worth the extra effort.
Don’t you get like a small “team effort” reward every time you hit a milestone or something? Although I will agree that is quite small.
Well, split zerg.
But how?
Do I split it into thirds to do the miasma event or make more groups for the defense groups as well? Do I assign a res all the citizens team?

So I think I see what they were going for in this update. Basically they added a “citizen’s saved” counter as a sort of high score system with more loot awarded for better efficiency so random pugs wouldn’t get frustrated like they were with the marionette but more organized players would want to more efficiently save citizens and get better rewards….
Problem is I never see that…. because honestly I have no idea how that “citizen’s saved” counter goes up. It’s not really communicated very well ingame at all. (It also doesn’t help the counter is broken on main servers right now).
So far I figured out that events save a bunch of citizens and if you walk up to citizens you can save them but the finer details are hazy. Does making sure all 3 miasma events go down save more lives then the escort events? How important is doing all of them? Do some of the rare ones give you more rewards then others? How do the events scale, which ones do you want to send small groups or which ones do you send in bigger zergs?
Personally I think the marionette pulled this scale of an event a lot better, it was harsh but it was usually obvious what you were doing wrong, like leaking champions or just failing the warden event. This event I just feel lost the whole time.
It’s still a fun event and I enjoyed it for a while but I feel the Marionette was a more well designed encounter and had a lot more staying power compared to this.

As far as I know a few communities have beat the wurm.
Desolation, Blackgate, TxS, Attuned and TTS. There are a few others still attempting to kill the wurm such as the Far Shiverpeaks. Of those 5, a couple have figured out how to kill the wurm continuously if there is the same crew fighting it.
The wurm still remains on a much higher skill level then tequatl which can be completed even with complete newbies in a large portion of the zerg as long as the commanders are competent.
Chris I feel that lists ignores a key issue the community has with the game in general. Risk and rewards.
In fact within each of those topics you’ll probably hear the same arguments about rewards over and over again which pretty much comes down to the fact that fast and easy content (speed clearing dungeons, world boss train, etc) is much more profitable then hard and longer content (30+ fractals, The Wurm, Tequatl, Arah, etc.) which is kinda hurting the game. I’d really like to see a discussion about this issue at some point.
Fractals in general I think are in a good state with the exception of rewards…. and that one fractal THAT SHALL NOT BE NAMED.
Ya but Shlack what about overflows?
In general I think the loot for the wurm and the rest of the game needs another look. Running “easy” and “fast” dungeons is much more profitable then say running 30+ fractals and just hopping on the world boss train is much more profitable then doing Tequatl and especially the Wurm.
Also I’d like to point out TTS’s reflect strategy is quite different then this. Usually we use Guardians with wall of reflection as well as swirling winds and have parties of 5 on each wurm. It’s sort of a hang over from the 2 power team structure we used to have and I’ll admit the 2 ele structure is more efficient but I personally like a full party rather then relying on 2 people who know the tells perfectly because it lets you train up complete newbies to the reflect team during a regular run.
(edited by guardian.6489)
TTS pretty much has been made for killing Tequatl and the Wurm and they should be able to get you into a guild…. eventually if you apply here: http://ttsgamers.com/
See TTS currently has a waiting list of over 2000 people and last I heard we got to about 577 down that list. The Guild basically had a completely open door for a while but it filled up 11 guilds quickly and found it didn’t have the leadership roles to control any more guilds, so now we trained up a few more leaders, are voting on the next guild name and in one week we’re going to purge inactive members that haven’t repped during a TTS raid for 1 month. So we should be able to fit everyone in soon.
I still think Lion's Arch isn't the target.

Evon would have prepared Lion’s Arch for such a disaster! He protects his interests and all of those interests are n Lion’s Arch!
I wish I could trade with people with excess shards because I have all this dragonite from Teq, Wurm and the Marionette.
Almost got first post-patch back to back as well but, hey can’t win them all.
Hopefully we can kill it more regularly once people learn how to keep with the wurm in phase 2 a little more.

Cons:
Overflows are not Guild friendly. You want to run around WPvP with your friends? Well – let’s hope that you don’t all get put into different overflows..
You do know you can taxi guild members into an overflow your on just like a PvE map right? You only run into a problem if the instance is full.
The problem with having only a small party focusing on the objective is that it doesn’t get filled up fast enough. Having a few people fall into the water at cobalt or only a couple people grabbing heart clouds will usually make it so burn phases come too slow.
I’ll let you in on a secret though (and before people say it, there was an Anet dev on the team when we tried this so it’s hardly a secret to them), the eggs can be reflected when they’re in projectile form when he spits them out. Most advanced communities use a reflecting party of elementalist and Guardians to block all the eggs from spawning the the first place and a single power team to clean up the vertern wurms.
Honestly I think a better solution would be that the best loot should come from dynamic events being completed rather then the mobs that randomly spawn in then.
Think of how many times we “exploited” event chains to get more champs to spawn then proceeded to let it fail. Shouldn’t the best reward come from what you recieve for completing the event? Especially if it’s a difficult encounter.
So I found out you can taxi anyone into an instance of EoTM regardless of what color your currently playing. So in other words, if you have a friend on the blue side and your red, you can taxi into his EoTM instance and fight each other.
This got me thinking, has anyone tried getting 3 guilds into one EoTM overflow at the same time and having a 4 hour long battle with this system? I remember a while ago people were asking for a way of making a “private” and shorter period WvWvW instance and in theory this could satisfy that niche even if it’s using the old sort of fickly overflow taxi system.
I like how the chief complaint of edge of the mists is that it’s so good wvw looks bad in comparison :P
I should also point out that you can also taxi members of another color into your overflow. TTS was able to taxi in everyone into the same overflow of edge of the mists and was able to kill each other.
In theory, you could start a gvgvg if 3 guilds managed to flood a single instance of edge of the mist and thus begin a 4 hour epic fight.
In general the game has a heavy “help each other” philosophy to the point whenever a player goes down nearby, it’s almost instinctual to run up be a hero and save them. Which never really has been broken.
I’m not sure if my tone was being miscommunicated in my post but basically I meant, “This was a really good idea that you had! It should really be in the game!”
So a while ago, someone data mined a “weekly” wurm chest alongside the daily, gold, silver and bronze chests that we know about. This seemed like a good idea as it would be a great idea to reward all that hard work for one kill while still preventing the boss from ever being farmed due to there being a cap on the amount of rewards you got.
A couple communities beat the wurm and only a daily chest with 3 rares, some dragonite, and 1 gold appears……
Why wasn’t this added in? Couldn’t anet put a couple exotics in that weekly chest or something to show for all the hard work for that wurm. I’m not expecting anything crazy just something, at the very least it needs to be on par with Teq.
And hell why can’t there be a one-time ascended reward for beating it the first time too, it would be a nice way of celebrating a first kill.
I believe that this may just be the start of the process of fixing the issues with the wurm. The gm on Deso the other day said that they were working on a way to prevent the wurm from leaving the combat area.
That said, we probably would have got 2 kills last night, if Crimson and Amber hadn’t gone invulnerable for a short time.
It seems like a temp fix so I’m not surprised and I hope there’s a more permament solution soon since this phase is RNG-ridden enough already.
Cobalt’s a lot hard to keep inside the arena since he can just bound into the water straight from the wall to make himself Invul. I don’t even remember the scaling bug triggering there.
I don’t think anyone “exploited” this bug on purpose considering it was unknown to everyone before this and Anet has been present for a lot of wurm raids. Not to mention nobody even knows how wurm aggro even works at this point.
I’m wondering how long this bug has been around because I’ll be really upset if that kill was only from a bug. It would be a real shame is all the firsts were because of this bug from what I hear all the kills have at least one wurm head escaping.
(edited by guardian.6489)
Crimson managed to kill him in the arena the 2nd time though, I don’t think if there was a scaling bug if he’s outside of the arena. He was stuck against a wall though at the end.
I would appreciate a response… currently the notes are vague…. and scary….
The wurm doesn’t use the person he’s targetting to determine how far he charges, only in what direction he moves because the charge attack has a set range. It’s similar to when NPCs use a whirling charge attack.
It may simply use classic mob behavior to determine who has aggro using factors including. According to the wiki 4 factors determine aggro.
1. closest target to them
2. who is dealing damage
3. top damage dealers
4. who is using a shield / has more toughness and overall armor
others
It may be possible to manipulate the wurm’s behavior by having one player stack far more toughness then the others and attempting to hold aggro (old Anchor Guardian builds used it). I’ve attempted it on world bosses before and it works (like on priest of grenth). Otherwise it could just be completely random.
I really wish I’d seen that post before the TTS wurm raids ended for me tonight.
(edited by guardian.6489)
We’ve tested this on deso, and it is 100% sure that the wurm head randomly targets a member of the group and “literally” becomes his/her pet. So the tactic that comes to mind is to bundle up, however, this is not as easy as it sounds. It targets downed people as well and there is ALWAYS that one person that refuses to get on team speak and running aimlessly.
Wait what!?!
Then does that mean…. hold on I need to do some tests.
Honestly I’ve had a lot of fun working with TTS trying to down this wurm when we were working on phase 1 but phase 2 has been nothing but pure frustration and honestly the only reason I’m sticking with it is to finish what I started.
I find it kinda sad that at this point we’ve had many more posts about the wurm bugging then it being killed…… like a 10-1 ratio.
Anet I was about to buy this item from the gem store because this update has been one of my all time favorites and I wanted to support you to say my thanks. But I cannot support such a blatant P2W item being in the gem store right now I’ll have to boycott it until you remove it.
Remove it and I’ll buy your pick.
I personally had a theory that heads moved away from whatever direction that DPS from coming the most from but this proved to be false after testing it in a few runs. It would be nice is Anet turned my theory into an actual mechanic since the head RNG phase is really frustrating as it currently is.
NEVER! I don’t even care about all the sleep I didn’t get!
Like most a couple servers, I’m currently bashing my head against the wall with TTS trying to kill the wurms and earn the honor of world’s first kill. However the experience has reminded me of a problem with teq.
Rewards for these type of bosses feel like all or nothing even if the content itself is fun. This struck me when watching a fellow member’s stream when we finally decapitated 3 heads (and suddenly realized there’s a phase 2) and only receiving 7 greens a 3 champ bags despite all the effort require to get to that point.
If you win Teq, you get a shot at awesome ascended loot, 3 rares, a ton of karma, good amount of gold and quite a few other items that make the trouble of killing him worth it even if champ train farming might give you a little bit more gold.
However if you Fail teq, you get a couple greens and some karma…..
Wurm rewards sound similar especially with that weekly chest added on top of the winning pile.
If Anet really wants more players to try out this boss and attempt to climb they have to tweak these rewards to make the sting of defeat hurt less. At the very least adding some dragonite and a rare to a daily single wurm decap chest will encourage casual players to add one wurm to the world boss train at the very least. And maybe one day after practicing on all 3 wurms they’ll attempt to go for whatever is in that kill chest.
Heard about the bug you ran into with the head phase, we at TTS also ran into the non-despawning crimson wrum.
Honest if there wasn’t any RNG scaling bugs or at work all the servers that have been close would have got a kill by now. It honestly feels at this point that the first server will be the luckiest not the most skilled. It’s been a ton of fun when it works but these bugs ruin the experience.
Also agree about the timer… I really wish it were every 1 hour till the next patch to give us more time.
Thing is, there’s a lot of evidence that the scaling is bugged at the moment which is preventing anyone from getting consistent burn phases. TTS has been sending some error reports to Anet and from what I’ve heard some have said that something looks wrong. Though there are some really weird tricks to get around it right now.
I’d wait for a patch/Anet’s official word before judging the wurm. After the patch, we’ll probably be able to consistently kill the wurm.
TTS has been running into the exact same thing. We’ve tried getting as many people as we can to target the wurm and not the adds around it but some people are still reporting they only seeing 27s (husk damage) and nothing in the hundreds. I heard from a leader that they messaged an Anet Dev and they watched the livestream and said that something didn’t look right.
They’re also watching Blackgate and our streams (I’m sure it’s fun to watch us suffer enjoy their content) while we attempt this so I’m sure they know about this issue and are working on it.
Not to cut down your spirits, but TTS did manage to kill the wurm. However the wurm glitched and crimson was stuck at 0%. The wurm was still up after the event ended as well. Luckily we were able to get a dev into the instance to inspect the glitch.
From what I’ve read the wurm boss will be similar in difficultly to Tequatl and for story you only need to fight the boss, which makes me thankful I’m in TTS at the moment. I’d join a Teq slaying guild before this boss patches as I imagine they’ll be recruiting in the lead up to this update.
This may be just me but part of the quote “scarlet problem” is that, that arenanet seems to be focused on making a massive global threat instead of a local problem in certain areas.
Flame and frost had a couple of issues but it’s core story of two races we’ve been pounding into the ground teaming up in desperation was quite plausible and for some maybe interesting but suddenly adding them to scarlet’s army for unexplained reasons was not.
Also some of the more well received patches didn’t even deal with any threat like Bazaar of the four winds.
Anet you keep making a TV analogy for the living story so here’s one, most television series get very boring when you constantly have the world in danger, it starts to lose it’s impact. You can just focus on a character’s personal problem, or a problem created in a certain area we are asked to visit or just weird that’s happening. Everything doesn’t have to add to scarlet’s evil plan.
I am personally missing one of the fractured achievements however…. it’s the dredge fractal so I’m fine with not having it…..
There are plenty of open guilds that kill him daily like Tequatl slaying squad if you looking at killing him.
However he’s not the same Afk with auto-attack for 5 mins when he spawns anymore.
Agreed Agreed. I’ve done this fractal too many times and know all the tricks and even often run with a thief which speeds up some of the more annoying parts but it’s still the most annoying fractal in existence.
It’s just long and boring even after you know what your doing. Usually once you learn a fractal, it becomes a little more fun and much faster (see swamp, Themanova, Aetherblade retreat) however the dedge is always extremely long and tedious and has very few interesting mechanics (the boss is ok I guess). I was hoping Anet would use this update as a chance to tweak this fractal and make it as fun as the rest of the fractals, instead all they did was nerf most of the tricks that sped up the fractal without any adjusting anything else.
You can actually use it in the sylvari personal story and it has it’s own unique set of skills which was awesome…… until the pale tree says, “Alright give it back I have a special purpose for it” and proceeds to give it to trehearne…..
So I’m one of the people who liked this update and enjoyed running through the tower with some guidies, it felt like a true open world dungeon. However I felt there wasn’t much incentive to come back other then finishing the meta (unless you count killing trehearne if you find the right pod) which is a shame because I’d like a massive version of a tower like this that provides awesome loot as you progress and it would make for a worthwhile addition to this game.
Perhaps there could be multiple branching paths with bosses at each of them which drop something nice. Perhaps the deeper you went, the hard things got the more people you would need to survive.
Either way I’d hate to see this type of open world dungeon content just disappear forever and never come back in any form again.

The idea of tier’d open world content like this is good. But poorly designed. 9/10 people need to be part of a group to go through it. Unless you are one of the few amazing elitists that are probably decked in ascended gear. Not to mention, once you go into the instanced portions and come out, you lose the ‘zerg’ or the open group you were with. So…you wait ? Thats bad design.
I am a mediocre to above mediocre player. Im not elitist, I cannot solo Lupi or anything. But I can definately hold my own and solo enough content in the game. But I cannot solo this. You do need a group. Most people need a group.
But is there anything really wrong with that though? I find this content is fun because it’s designed to be beaten by a group but it’s still possible to run into random people.
I mean the LFG group tool exists for a reason.
Normally, no there isnt anything wrong with that. But Im finding that the community is quite hypocrytical now.
All across these forums, If someone says “the game should be like X”, that person is met by a swarm of responses like “Well not everyone likes X”. “Well I want dungeons to be a bit harder!”…“Well not everyone likes harder. Some people like speedruns”. “I want open world content to require more strategy and less zerg”….“Well, not everyone likes to cooperate. Some people like to zerg to farm $$”.
Get where Im going?
The game and every patch since release has been launched so that everyone can complete it, regardless of gear and skill. Which is why GW2 has been dubbed an easy game to play. Now that theres content that is difficult and only soloable by a small minority, you all are saying “welll thats ok!”. Yes, I agree. But I also see some hypocrits in here(no necessarily talking about you).
Now that content suits THEIR needs, its OK. But when someone wanted the content to suit their needs in a different way in the past 14 months, they were told “Well not everyone is like you”.
Why is this different now?
Edit: If the game were like this all along, Id be fine with it. But every LS patch has been completable with little to no group requirements, and so that the average joe(if he has the time to cram all of it in) can do so.
Sure it’s not SOLOABLE by the average player but it is DOABLE. If you have trouble with a certain floor just open up and LFG tool or team up with people there to increase your chances or just stick to a commander who’s got a zerg going who can probably steamroll the entire place.
I don’t see why every living story patch has to be strictly soloable, just achievable by the average joe if he willing to team up with other average joes in the exact same position.
